About Me

Active within 191 Days

Hi! My name is Goldielocks

I am Domestic Shorthair from San Antonio, TX

Nicknames: Goldie, Miss Mischief, Mississippi Mud Pie (when she gets herself in BIG TROUBLE)

Age: 8 years old

Gender: F

Coat: short haired

Education: She quickly learned how to climb our Christmas tree

My favorite tricks and treats are: Not really... I'm just content to be lazy, but when I'm not doing that, I am usually chasing my adopted brother (Avery) ALL OVER my mom's house! and Without a doubt My All-Time Favorite treats are the Meow Mix Market Selects (Seafood Variety). If ALL of us (INCLUDING AVERY) are REALLY, SUPER good, Then my mom might break down and treat us to a can of the Meow Mix Wholesome Goodness or a Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys. Unfortunately, since Avery is approaching his TEENAGE years, that is rare these days! He almost always does something to earn a scolding from mom!

Where I hang out: I have a few favorite hangout spots...
1) On the corner of my mom's bed,
2) Lately I found a little cat bed that my mom had just laid down on top of some moving boxes that are right in front of the big sliding glass door in my mom's bedroom. Boy, do I LOVE to sunbathe!!
3) Finally, my ALL-TIME FAVORITE hang out spot is the air cushion on my mom's power wheelchair. It's my adopted brother's (Avery) favorite hang out too, so whenever my mom gets out of her wheelchair, Avery & I both make a mad dash for the cushion!!!

My favorite grubs: I like the Purina Complete formula since Avery, Pumpkin ("Granny") & I fall into 3 different age brackets... Avery is a "grade-schooler- ", I am a "teenager" and Pumpkin is a "Senior Citizen" at age 14 (hence her nickname of "Granny"

My pet peeves: I hate it when I don't have my mom's UNDIVIDED attention!

I also can't stand it when my mom is still working when my "Partners In Crime" & I (i.e. my housemates) decide that we are HUNGRY and it is time for our DINNER treat!

What I love about my owners: Most nights my mom will spoil my housemates & I with a cup of the Meow Mix Market Selects, except when she either falls asleep before giving it to us or when Avery (& sometimes me too) manage to REALLY get ourselves in BIG, BIG TROUBLE) Fortunately, it's usually Avery that gets into the REALLY big trouble!

She (sometimes) lets me work my paws on her while she works on her computer in bed!! The only thing about that, though, is that I have to remember that I have claws and they are SHARP, which unfortunately can rather easily hurt my mom, without me ever meaning to! :-(

My cat hobbies: Eat & Sleep!! I also like to "romp around" (if you know what I mean) with Avery, my housemate (and technically my adopted brother too...) I keep trying to get him to help me have some kittens of my own. Something must not be right b/c I never have had any kittens of my own. **Both she & Avery are fixed but you would never know it by the way they chase each other (like boyfriend & girlfriend!!)

Pet motto: "Give me the GOOD life!"

How We Met

It's kind of a sad story...

A few days before I met Goldie, we lost one of our other cats to old age. We are so much a "3 cat family" that it felt "REALLY WEIRD" with only 2 cats around so we started looking @ the Cat Adoption center @ our local PetSmart and Goldie was there, waiting for a new home. The rest, you might say, is History!

Goldie got herself into a peck of trouble!!
At about 6:30 am the other morning, while my mom & I were eating breakfast, Goldie was up on my bed and (as usual) I gave her (& her 2 housemates) a couple little pieces of bacon as a breakfast treat, and after all of the bacon was gone, I saw Goldie chewing on something. When I looked a little closer, I realized that there had been one of my pills that had fallen out of my pill bottle and she had decided to chew on it!

Naturally, My mom & I went into PANIC MODE! I then remembered that in a recent ASPCA fundraising mail out that I received, there was a magnet with a phone # for Animal Poison Control. Much to my surprise, on the recorded announcement that played before I reached an operator, they stated that BECAUSE THEY DO NOT RECEIVE ANY FEDERAL OR STATE FUNDS, THERE WOULD BE A $60 CHARGE FOR A CONSULTATION WITH THE VET THAT WAS ON CALL @ THE ANIMAL POISON CONTROL CENTER!! Needless to say I was more than a tad on the shocked side to hear this!!

Since I live on a fixed income, this was especially troubling!! Fortunately, when the vet came on the line, and I explained that I simply didn't have that since my disability check had not yet been e-Deposited into my bank account yet.

While they weren't able to give me a case # (as they would if I had paid) they were able to give me some VERY GENERAL tips as to what to do and what to watch for symptom-wise.

Within 30 minutes (by 7 am), My mom & I were on the doorstep of our family vet only to find out that they were only open for DROP-OFFs & PICK-UPs from 7-8 and the doctor wouldn't be in until 8 am!! So they sent us down the road to the Veterinary ER. But when we got down to the ER, they couldn't really do much of anything since they closed @ 8 am (when most regular vets open for business) and by the time we got there, it was already 7:30!!

The Vet tech @ the ER told us that no matter where we go there wasn't going to be any way to avoid paying the $60 for the Animal Poison Control since the medication that she had chewed on was a human drug that most vets won't know what the antidote or treatment would be off the top of his head. He also explained that unlike most common household items (like cleaners, antifreeze, etc.) most vets don't deal with Cymbalta ingestion every day.

Since all that the ER could do would be to get a case started with the ASPCA Poison Control, it really didn't make much sense to pay an exam fee @ the ER only to have to pay ANOTHER exam fee @ our regular vet! So we turned right back around and went back to our regular vet!!

Needless to say, they were very surprised to see us back so soon!! But fortunately, by this time (about 7:45), Dr. Meir was there!

At first we thought that she had ingested about 40-50 mg of a 60 mg capsule of Cymbalta and Dr. Meir was REALLY SCARED that since it had already been so long and we feared that she had ingested so much, that we may have a MAJOR MAJOR PROBLEM on our hands, even though she had yet to show any

Come visit me, Avery, Goldielocks, Pumpkin (RIP 6/30/11) & Tuxedo (RIP - 06/14/08).
