How We Met
It was a cold rainy night in January. Someone had dumped her and I heard her crying for help. I tracked her down under a neighbor's car, just a bit of a thing and so cold. I brought her in for the night (she spent is sleeping by my husband's head - they bonded immediately). The next day I put up flyers, but no one responded, so she became ours, much to my husband's relief.

Hi Back!

The holiday's founder says the intention is to encourage cat parents to celebrate their bond with their felines.
Have you hugged your cat today?
Today, cat owners are encouraged to celebrate Hug Your Cat Day, the feline holiday created by author Marisa D’Vari as a way to commemorate the life of her cat Mimi, a white Persian. Mimi died in 1995, and D’Vari wanted to do something to make her cat’s life count.
That year, she came up with the idea for Hug Your Cat Day to honor the life of her cat, as well as for cat owners around the world to honor their own cats. As creator of the holiday, D’Vari encourages cat owners to use the day as a way to raise awareness for feline causes, whether it be the local animal shelter or rescue group.
Her second cat, Apricat, also a white Persian, carried on Mimi’s torch and loved the attention generated each year for Hug Your Cat Day, D’Vari said. The best thing about the holiday, she added, is that “everyone could take time out to hug their cat and remember how precious they are.”
Apricat died in August 2008, and D’Vari said she has learned that cats should not be taken for granted. She said hopes Hug Your Cat Day serves as a reminder of the satisfaction that comes from sharing a bond with a cat, as well as the emotional satisfaction that comes from hugging a cat, said D’Vari, who lives in New York City.
Future Hug Your Cat Days will be celebrated with the publication of a book about cats and simultaneous benefit for cat-related charities, she said. Hug Your Cat Day starts on the first day of the annual Book Expo America (BEA) in New York. Founder Marisa D'Vari
