How We Met

I found Twiggy in my friend's backyard. Twiggy's mother(a stray) just had a litter in my friend's shed, so we saw the kittens. They were so cute! Twiggy was the runt of the litter, so much smaller than the rest. So, when the kittens were 5 days old, the mother took Twiggy out of the shed, and dropped him outside of the shed in the dirt. The poor thing. It was summer, and temperature was hot. We knew he wouldn't last long. We waited for about 4 hours, and the mother kept coming out of the shed, walking past Twiggy withOUT even looking at him, and then going back in the shed to feed the other kittens. It was so sad. We couldn't wait any longer, because newborn kittens have to be fed about every 2-4 hours, and keeping the heat in mind, we couldn't let him die. We took him inside, cleaned him up ever-so-careful- ly, fed him replacement nursing kitten milk, got him a warm shoebox with plenty of towels inside for comfort, and I took him home. And there started the getting up EVERY 3 hours to feed him. That was the toughest part so far. Then, he started crawling, his ears started opening, and it was the cutest transformation I've ever seen. Then, when he started to open his eyes, he only opened one eye. So, me and my dad took Twiggy to the vet only to find out that he had an upper respiratory disease, and we had to treat the tiny thing with medicine for A LONG TIME. He's healthy as can be now, and you just wouldn't believe he's that same sick little runt who got abandoned. People kept telling us he didn't have that good of a chance of living, but we proved them wrong! I have to admit, I didn't favor Twiggy too much when he was little, with all the messes and feedings and such, but he's such a cute little guy now. He gets in trouble a lot though, that little rascal!
