Hi Engine!
That Headless Chicken Festival was something else, alright! Can't find too much that can beat that! I did discover recently that "Mallow" is a kind of flower. Actually it's a family of flowers that includes Hibiscus and Rose of Sharon, but it's also a wild Swamp Rose. I like that one! Then Steve looked it up and he came back to tell me that it's considered an invasive weed, and that Chinese Mallow is used to treat (get this!) constipation. So I'm an invasive wild swamp weed that can make people *ahem* their drawers. Gotta love that! They are all actually pretty flowers when Steve isn't makin' fun of 'em.

Oh, that's cute, the kitties all over Mom and Felix bein' a Davy Crockett cap in the bed. Welcome home, Mom! That's what Mikey does with Mom, 20 pounds of orange cat sharing the pillow. Good thing Mom got one of those big giant pillows, cause she has a big giant Mikey for sure! -- Mallow

PS: O.J. likes livin' on the edge, alright, that's why he hangs out with me. Right now I'm teachin' him to ride a Harley so he can come with some of us to the big Sturgis Biker Rally in August.

Pile on the mommy is a fun game MOL. We try not to smother her but she has to get a bigger lap cuz it's not fair to us. You guys must be happy to have mom home. Lucky for us she hardly ever leaves us overnight. Imagine the trouble we could get into. Even when she goes to Shoprite she tells us not to tear the house down. Sheesh what does she think we are capable of? The occasional toilet paper roll get unraveled, knock the pillows off the chair & the blankets on the floor but gosh...

Come on over,the landing pad is free of water and all clear to dock.Watching moves in the shredding room will be grat,I need to shred something,my ole claws are really sharp,hehe!The carmel catcorn sounds great and so does the biscuits!Mom said Beakers she sure needs a spa treatment today and the inhalation room sounds great,she cant wait to use the waterfalls Exit.Ok come on over we are ready,I have giggly with some crispy cricket slaad and catmint crackers,Gang baked grasshopper cupcakes with caterpilar drizzle and some bat wing muffins,it will be a fun day,see ya all soon,love ya all,pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.

How are you today.Was a nice day earlier for us but did get some rain and a loud thunder storm later.Glad we got to go out when mr.sun was out.Missy went out for a few minutes and lay in the sun,she got tired so mom brought her back in to nap,she is getting weaker but still eats ok,just sleeps lots.I got to explore in all my usual places,cheked out all the tall grass,nothing there,saw more of those ole worms all over,and the groundhogs hid in thier hole.There is a tree that I scratch my claws on every day as we go by,well I stopped real still and sat down looking up in the tree,I would not move,mom said Spongie what are you doing come on,then she looked and the tree was full of baby birds just learning to fly,they were way up in top flying all over the tree.mom bird was chatering really loud at us,she was mad mom said,me,mom watched the little things ,they were so cute,mom could not tell what kind they were,I said hi little birdies come closer so I can see you,but they did not,hehe!I was sitting on one side, Oreo watching them on the other,Oreo was looking up, did not see me and came around the tree right into me,well we sure had a wacking contest,guess I wacked to hard and he ran,mom said stop it right now both of you,you scared the baby birds,and mom bird might fly down and peck you all over,well mom Oreo was looing in my tree!Mom said come on Spongie,I need to go sit down,nope not comming,she pulled,tugged on my lead and I lay flat down,I was not leaving MY birdie tree,well mom had to pick me up and carry me away from that tree,can't have any fun here,she called me a little stubborn stinker!she put me down and I ate some grass,then we sat down for a little while,I pouted at mom for a few minutes and would not look at her,she took me from my birdie tree,then I chased a butTerfly it got away,then I sneaked up and lay beside mom,she gave me a hug,and I gave her a big ole headbutt and we just sat there for awhile looking all around,mom said lets go Spongie the worms are invading our sitting place so we went in,ole worms,mom sure checked her socks,hair,clothes and me to make sure there were no worms on us.I checkd out all through the house all ok,then I lay down and pushed he condo across the floor,got mr.innertube and went to rest with mom,gave her a kitty kiss right on her nose,she said you better not bite me little man,hehe.Then it got real dark and started pourng rain and then it stormed,the thunder was really loud,I got close to mom as I could,Wicket on the other side,Baby came racing in the room and got on moms tummy,Cindell,Missy just kept napping,ole scary thunder!Now I'm on napping on the cat tree,well with one eye open staring at mom,Baby,Missy,Wicket napping,Cindell looking out the window,uh oh,its geting really stormy looking again,guess we better wake up and go hide,pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.

Backyard extreme games week! OK, so maybe using extreme is a little…extreme, but that’s how we roll at CS! Before I go further, a big round of applause for B&O-as they need to leave us for a bit. Poor Bouie is on the ill side, and family does come first. Group air hug, we will miss them!
I’m in first TRYING to promote water safety with my 66,but will you listen?? NOOOOO!!
Wait, wait…who is THIS! Tucker, here early??? Tuck is behind me with a 60 and his blinged out Hover Cart. Now we know how to roll him out of bed-with a new toy! So jealous.
Mudcat Mimi is close behind with her 69. Looks like she has abandoned rowing for hovering with Tucker. J.C. thanks you for that I’m sure.
Who’s that??? Covered in fog is Sandy/Ana with a 56. Careful girls,your dripping water on the weenies-pawty foul!
Breezing in next is My Fairway Lady Lili trying her best not to trip in some wild get-up, complete with a parasol and a dinner plate on her head. Ohhhhhh…that’s a hat, that LOOKS like a dinner plate. Lili (you’re a good girl, you are) brought her 70 out to play today.
UBB is doing some hovering of his own, around the snack wagon. He brings a 57,and a big bib today :)
B&O, *sigh* a 73. A short farewell to our southern influence til summer is over. You WILL be back; we know where to find you…
Engine is closing in around the obstacle courses with a 64 in her Weenie Wagon full of…what is THAT! Salmon sliders and batwing chips! Why, I haven’t had a batwing chip in like…never! She is feeling cart envy today. No worries Engine, Tuck gots the Hover, you’ve got the batwings! No comparison! Before you all think I’m nuts, Engine DID leave a blog this morning…I saw it-then it went POOF! I don’t make these things up!
BG arrives fully padded in anticipation of extreme getting too extreme. She brought a 42?? A 42?? That’s not extreme! Re-do! Don’t anger her today; I heard she is a Wiccan. I mean a wicket!!! A wicket! Why would I EVER accuse her of being a witch-OOPS :)
Duck!!!! Mallow arrives with a 45 and a bad spitten aim. Hope she doesn’t spit like she golfs!

Hi Engine!
Thanks for the concatulations to me and Talley on our engagement! We are two happy kitties!

The outside kitties were on edge this morning, as was Mom when she opened the garage and smelled skunk! My Mom got out her flashlight and tennis racket and went out walking along the street, to hopefully scare it away if the skunk was still nearby. Thank goodness the coast was clear. Not sure what Mom would have done if she had run into the skunk. :( Whitey and Orangie ate fine; everyone just seemed a bit nervous.

Purrs and hugs. I'm so glad your Mom and Dad had a safe trip! I guess it makes you appreciate them more! Enjoy spending time with them sweet furiend!

Top Reasons To Keep Cats Indoors – Part 1 (from cats.about.com)

Many cat lovers are now savvy that indoor cats are safer cats, while others still think that cats deserve freedom to run in the great outdoors. When humans domesticated cats, we took on the responsibility for their health & welfare. Part of that responsibility is to keep cats safe & in good health. For those holdouts for letting cats roam free, consider these top reasons to keep cats indoors.

• To Monitor Your Cat’s Urinary Tract/Bowel Health. With an outdoor cat, pet owners are unable to monitor painful attempts to urinate or poop. The first, a red flag warning for UTI or urinary tract blockage; the second, a red flag for constipation, bowel blockage or mega-colon.

• Indoor Cats Are Safe From Predators & Dog Packs. Outdoor cats are below predators in the food chain, & they are sitting ducks for owls, raptors, coyotes, & native big cats. Dogs running in packs will consider a cat fair game; even one large dog can easily overpower & kill a cat. Remember that some dogs are also bred to attack; they are not really to blame when their instinct takes over. Even with a full set of fangs & claws, the cat rarely has a chance when caught outside.

• Indoor Cats Don't Create Neighbor Problems. Even "well-bred" cats will venture into neighbors' yards when allowed to roam free. People who don't like cats will not tolerate cats using their gardens as litter boxes, & will sometimes resort to extreme measures to keep the cats out.

• Indoor Cats Rarely Get Abscesses From Fighting. Cats are very territorial & will defend their territory to the death, if challenged by another cat. At the very least, these territorial battles often result in abscessed wounds, which can be deadly if not treated in time. There's also the chance, of course, of cats contracting FIV from deep bite wounds.

• Indoor Cats Are Safe From Human Abuse. Freely-roaming cats are easy targets for gangs of youths with time on their hands, for cat-haters, who seek cats out for target practice, & for neighbors who would think nothing of killing a cat for trespassing on their property. Although animal protection laws are beefing up, prosecution will never bring a loved cat back to life.

• Indoor Cats Can Get Plenty of Exercise. Cats do get exercise, but they can get it safely with interactive toys, climbing towers, scratching posts, & other indoor toys; all much safer than running from dogs or fighting with other cats. Remember also that there are safe compromises for the outdoor experience.

♥ Honoring our fur mama, BABY KNIGHT'S 13286 Three Year Forever Sleep on Monday, May 20th!!!!

♥ Well, the Yard Sale is over til after the first of June, but not the work for mom and dad as they will still be going thru the storage shed next with throwing things away and saving things for the next sale!!!! The last two days of the sale never even made $40 for both days!!!!

♥ Mom and dad has been doing a bunch of weeding in the front yard in between customers during the sale and rain. Today, mom went in the back yard and scooped out the big 3X5 (used to be 5X5) sand`litter box then she got her new weedeater assembled, as she had to take the other one back to Wal*Mart then went to Lowes and got one there instead. She got the front yard weedeated then she mowed the front yard.

♥ Mom did open dad's bedroom window this morning so we could be out in the cattery. It was nice getting the fresh air.

Brutal recap! 5-19-13
Ugh, these Sunday recaps are SUCH heavy lifting! I think there are all of FIVE members here today. I hope I can make it through this without a mistake....

First out and stuck in the middle of Lake Mimi without a paddle is herself with a 61. Maybe you can tie one of those wieners to each leg and use them for water wings to paddle ashore. Not going for it huh?

Celebrating something only he could get enthusiastic about is Steve, giving us his best May Ray Day cheesy grin and hitting a 64. He does have a point about the hover cart though.

Engine has managed to extricate herself from the clutches of hug-happy mom to knock in a soggy 62. No, no competition for the food cart from the hover cart. Food is food, hover is hover.

Mallow is craving Roast Beast Biscuits. And she brought her own dessert too - Devil's food cake. Beast? Devil? Mallow, should we start worrying? Although you aren't scaring anybody with that 52.

Last in line is Bee Gee, foregoing chicken heads in favor of the slightly less aerodynamic but weightier Barbie head, she also bangs one for a 52. And without any beastly devils, I might add. Just sayin'.

And the winners are:

1st - Tie, Mallow and Bee Gee. Devils and chicken heads. Maybe we SHOULD start worrying....
2nd - Mimi, 61. Did the wiener water wings help any?
3rd - Engine - 62. You don't happen to have a recipe calling for chicken heads and wiener wings?

Oh boy, if there had been just ONE more tie, there would be no one to do cart duty today. As it is, poor Steve will be on his own out there. Be brave. I think most of the scary crawly things are actually in your closet! :)

How are you today.Was a nice day for us,but raining now.Good thing mom got me out earlier.Did my usual exploring,nothing under the mousey bushes except those ugly worms crawling all over.I like to get next to the tall grass,then jump way over in it and start digging,grass,dirt goes all over,mom never sees anything there,guess I just like doing that,hehe!Groundhogs saw us comming and off they went in all directions,mom laughs at how fast they run,I just waved my paw at them as they streaked by us.We go by thier hole to my tall grass and Oreo still will not get close there,the mom groundhog must have chased him or something.I ate grass,gotta have my grass to make strong kitty muscles,hehe.Made all my rounds in the yard,then mom had to sit for awhile,I lay beside her,there is little white blooms on one of the bushes over where we sit and the blooms were falling all over us,they were all in my fur.Then mom said time to go in,when she gets up and gathers up her cushions and ole cane I know I have to go in,so in we came,I shook my fur and all those blossoms flew all over the floor,so here comes ole mr.broom out of the close and I got out of his way,I do not like that ole broom at all!Then I heard mom muttering,she had pulled off her shoe and there was one of those worms crawling on her sock,well she sure was moving to get it off and threw it back out in the yard,hehe,she sure had a funny look on her face,I heard her say ole worms.Made my rounds through the house all ok,ate my food,then went to my toy rug in front of the door and bathed myself to get all those ole blooms off me,mom came to make sure none of those worms had stuck to my fur,ole worms.Then I took mr.innertube and went to rest with mom for a litle while,I snuggle right by her shoulder and lay my head on her arm,she gave me a kiss,me Wicket ate our treats and then I napped.Now I'm laying on the cat tree watching the rain,Baby looking out the widnow,Wicket is hid in the kitty cube,its dark out and he thinks its going to thunder,Missy,Cindell napping.Sending some giggly with some salmon scones,Gang made some caterpillar brownies with grasshopper glaze for everyone.Hope mom,dad got home safley,love ya all,pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.

6 TAX DEDUCTIONS YOUR CATS CAN CLAIM FOR NEXT YEAR - (from catster.com)

Cats love to take advantage of anything that might work in their favor. What if they could file taxes and claim deductions? You better believe they'd be all over that. What exactly would they claim? We've got some ideas.

1. Therapy deduction -
Cats should be able to claim monies paid for any therapy occurring as a result of having to wear silly outfits. The deductions would substantially increase for those felines whose shame is shared via social media outlets. In case of an audit, they must save all receipts and screenshots of photos shared online.

2. Energy-savings deduction -
Masters at conserving energy, cats would get to reap the benefits of helping save the planet. They'd log their sleep hours and, using a specialized formula, claim accordingly. There would also be a unique tax credit for cats who log a certain number of hours while lying in a sun puddle. It would be called the Solar Cat Tax Credit.

3. Charitable donations deduction -
Kitties are excellent gift givers. They drop toys into our empty shoes, leave expired creatures at the back door, and greet our bare morning feet with cold piles of vomity hairballs. It's about time they received credit for those charitable donations!

4. Casualty deduction -
Unfortunately, cats must deal with a multitude of casualties each year, primarily lost toys. Balls are batted under the refrigerator, cloth mice are drowned in the water bowl, and feathered birdies are ripped to shreds. Mourning the loss of vanished toys is tough, but the load can feel a lot lighter when they can write those losses off and experience true closure.

5. Entertainment deduction -
It takes a lot of energy to entertain humans. Cats subject themselves to a fair amount of embarrassment in order to please the human with the can opener. As a way to help them feel their hours of performing for humans are not in vain, an entertainment deduction would be available to kitties.

6. Paid interest deduction -
Sometimes cats just want to sleep, birdwatch, or curl up and stare at a bug on the screen door. However, humans may have other ideas: "Kitty, kitty! Come sit on my lap!" The human is the bringer of the food, and so cats sometimes placate her whims. They really should receive credit for showing interest when really they'd rather flick their tail and go back to sleep. And most times, they do just that -- some deductions just aren't worth it.

Up putting early this morning in the cold is Ana, with a chilling 38 and a putt of 11. Rowing in right behind her is Mimi with J.C. at the helm, delivering a 61 and a putt of 7.

Tucker claims to be heading in the right direction for once, with a 51 and a putt of 6. Paddling along with Mimi's row boat is water boy Steve with a 57 and a pretty lousy putt of 12. Sloshing and galoshing to the Mudmobile with her mud pies, Engine hits a 61 for a putt of 7.

Coming into the clubhouse for a game of pool after his sunny/cold combo of 38 for 11, UBB heads to the basement to look for any remaining Cat Daniels. Bee Gee decides to hit up the vending machines for some Reeses after her dismal 48, and a putt of 12. "Hit" is a figure of speech, Bee Gee....

Mallow rolls her soggy 52 across the green, kicking up those little golf ball rooster tails, for a putt of 7. And finally Bart is stunning in bright green water-wear (does that mean 'raincoat'?) and leaves a 63, for a putt of 9, with the scorer.

And now for the winners:

1st - Tucker, 6. No doubt about it, that's the right direction.
2nd - 3-way tie, Mimi, Engine, and Mallow. And you guys don't even live anywhere NEAR each other!
3rd - Bart, 9. It's the green. How can you lose wearing "putting" green?

O-M-G!! I don't want to be the one to say this, but it looks like Steve and Bee Gee will be on cart duty tonight. It's a good thing tomorrow is Sunday. I doubt there will be a lot of carts in operational condition!

Oh! Speaking of carts, everyone cast your eyes on the bottom of the page and see Tucker's hover cart that we've all heard so much about but we finally just got a picture of. Way cool! Now everyone will want one. Except Engine! Hahhaa!

How are you today.A gloomy dreary day here,rained this morning,then stopped but still gloomy out there,more rain on the way.Got to go out to explore,grass was wet but I went right on.Checked out mousey bushes,went in the tall grass,nothing there,not even a bug,ate grass,same some of those worms climbing up the fench post,ole worms.Did not see the groundhogs,they must have been behind the building playing,you can hear them in the grass out there. Walked more,then mom sat down to rest and let me explore a little more,she lets my lead out long enough for me to look around.Then I watchd Spotty,Oreo,and outside kittys wander around,they sure do not come close to me,wonder why,hehe!Then the wind started blowing the rain drops out of the trees and was hitting me on the head,mom said time to go,I puled her in this time,did not want my fur all wet,those rain drops hurt my little head,hehe!Came in washed off my paws,made rounds through the house,toys,all ok,ate my food,then went sat on my toy rug to look out the door,carried mr.innertube for a few minutes.Mom said Spongie wnat to go down in yor apartment,nope to dark down there and the ole basement,furnace monster is there,so I went to rest with mom,ate my treats on the bed and snuggled up to mom to nap a little while,Wicket was on the other end eating his treats.Its gotten really dark out,looks like we might get a storm,sure hope not,ole thunder scares us all,so now I'm napping on the cat tree.Wicket is napping beside mom,Baby on the other side napping,Missy on her pad,Cindell on the counter so everyone is napping now.Bet you all can't wait for mom,dad to get home,hope they have a safe trip home.Glad you liked the caterpillar cookies,Gang baked you all lots more with some spider drizzle,I have giggly and some caterpillar casserole with mouse crackers,hope you like it.Mom said thanks for thinking of her,she just ate a little solid food and thought it was going to be ok for her tummy,but she don't know about that at the moment!love ya all,pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.

Well, it was fun at the Headless Chicken Festival, bummer we got kicked out early. See, there’s a Poker Run Bike Ride, and, uh, some of the kitties in the group *ahemSteve* got it confused with the World Naked Bike Ride that happens in June. The good folks of Fruita were not amused. They've already told us we're kind of pushing the “no pets allowed at the Festival” rule, anyway. I just think they were jealous that O.J. set a new town record when he won the wing eating contest. -- Mallow

Hi Engine!
This morning my Mom was with the outside kitties for over an hour. I was getting pretty tired of waiting! Mom sat on the floor again, to get to eye level with the outside cats, and Whitey really likes this. Whitey kept rubbing her face all over Mom & purring. Mom’s clothes were covered in fur! Callie and I were quick to check it out and sniff to see whom she had been with. MOL!
Orangie was reluctant at first, but then would sneak behind Mom, sniff her and then go running away. Mom didn’t move and Orangie kept coming back like it was a game. Sniff and Run! Afterwards the kitties ate, not really noticing any scents from Callie and me. (I really think I need to spray that cat carrier. MOL!) Mom says this was a good morning. :)

Heaven Is...

A man was riding his horse down a road, cat in his arms & his dog by their side. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, & that his horse, cat & dog had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stonewall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, was a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. Standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch, made from mother of pearl, & the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He nudged the horse toward the gate, & as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk. Once close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, & I'll have some ice water brought right up."

The man gestured, & the gate began to open. "Can my furiends," gesturing downward towards his horse, cat & dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked. "I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept animals."

The man thought a moment & then turned his horse & dog back toward the road, cat in his arms & continued the way he had been going. At the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road which led through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree & reading a book. "Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water?"

"Sure, there's a pump over there" The man pointed to a place that couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in."
"How about my furiends here?" the traveler asked.
"There should be a bowl & a bucket by the pump."

They went through the gate, & sure enough, there was an old hand pump with a bowl & a bucket beside it. The traveler filled the bowl & took a long drink himself, then gave some to his cat & dog while he filled the bucket for his horse. When they all were satisfied, he led his furiends back toward the man who was standing by the tree waiting for them.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is heaven," was the answer.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street & pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No. I can see how you might think so, but we're just happy that they screen out the folks who’d leave their best furiends behind."

5/17 Long Drive Furiday with PD Budd's comments
The end of Pizza Week arrived in style today with the delivery of hot tomato-anchovy-catnip pies. Those stale weinie pizzas had to be tossed. Sorry Steve & Mallow, but you’ll like these better. That’s why your score is 57, Steve? This is a “NO Leftovers Day” so that means the little red, All-Cats-Pizza truck will be arriving regularly until sundown. Gonna get enough pizza yet? So, has anyone found good recipes for fresh Sea Monkey? Chef Engine, give it a try? Your lovely possum pizza smells yummy. Can I get a large Heinicat to go? Love your 62 score. Oh Bart! You wild tomcat you!! Cherry red shorts and a Long drive of 61. You are right up there with the best of them… love the short shorts! It looks like a number of golfers have been arriving very early today… like in the DARK! The sun rises @ 5 a. m. (6:30 for LiLi), so why all these in the dark golf times. UBB is probably the worst offender. He claims insomnia but 1 a. m is early to be out on the veranda “reading,” sipping the old C.D. and waiting for sleep or sun. It sure didn’t help your L.D. score today: 39! Really!! But the cats who tripped over, walked upon, and generally stumbled in the dark should try arriving a little later. That applies especially to Fanci-lalooza LiLi. Your glow-in-the-dark beads are exceptional. You did whack a mice high score of 68. Tucker, very politely tripped over UBB in the dark, took care of his Cat Daniels bottle, and then scored a 46. Yes, Tuck, manners do count! It’s mice to see Mimi and her darling All-Black Catty, JC now that the sun is up. Arriving later would have meant not stumbling over sleeping UBB’s All-Black body and then telling him “to get a room.” Geesh! But that fine 66 score looks great..
We are glad to see that Ana arrived in the buff in the dark. Thank you for taking consideration for those of us still wearing our golf clothes. Your score of the 44 twins is looking mighty good, too.
Now let’s play some Long Drive golf… in the springtime SUNSHINE!
Bwana Bee Gee is finished leading the Sea Monkey expedition into the tall reeds of the watercourse. Her faithful gunbearer, Gracie T-t, prowls right behind. She hands the famous huntress a long drive woodie (the rifles are in the golf bag too) and Whack! 53 for the Big BG. As usual Mallow is doing her own thing [secret too… some cult thing about headless chickens] and she achieves a decent but unexceptional score of: 54.
“Wowoo, meowoo, I got the bloooze Huunee and I need some lovin’ right now.” Oww! Okay. Who brought the karioki machine onto the course? Armani’s singing his heart out and with that score 50 he ought to. Up to the Clubhouse with you dear Armani and your little Chloe will forgive you. Don’t let Steve know that you’ve got your own singing blaster!! A duet? Oh, my!!

How are you all.Been a cooler day for us,mr.sun was in,out,rain on the way for tonight.Got to go out to explore,checked out all my usual places,nothing much going on out but those worms crawling all over,when I see one of those worms crawling toward me,I run the other way!Went under all mousey bushes,in the tall grass,I just love doing that,never know what might be hiding in there I can pounce on,ate grass,then we saw the groundhogs out,they saw us and off they went,they sure are growing fast.Saw lots of birds,almost wacked another bee,but mom stopped me,ole bee was buzzing all around my head.Then we went to sit fo a few minutes so mom could rest,she is having lots of pain today,but her tummy is feeling a little better for her,yaaa,she said, so I just sat and looked all around while mom rested,played stick with mom,she gets a small tree branch with leaves on it and drags it back,forth on the ground,I love chasing it,thats fun,got tired of that and lay down and watched a robin getting worms out of the grass,I said hi birdie are you going to sing me a song,ole birdie flew off,hehe!Then mom got up,I know when she stands up its time to go in,I went right in today.Made my rounds through the house,all ok,made sure my toys,mr.innertube were laying on my paper bag,Wicket got on the bag last night and moved all my toys,he got a wack for that!Went to rest with mom after eating my treats on the bed,I heard mom muttering last night about all the treats she lay down on in the bed,then she got up and stepped on some in the floor and crunched them all over,hehe,well gotta have those treats.Now I'm laying on my toy rug lookng out the door,Baby,Wicket looking out the window,Missy,Cindell napping,so pretty quiet right now.Sending you a nighty snack of my giggly,tuna scones,Gang baked you all some caterpillar cookies with grasshopper drizzle,love ya all,pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.

Hey Engine! While Mom & Dad are gone,
I have just the thing. Would you believe it’s Mike the Headless Chicken Day!

Yes, you heard me right! Grab your backpacks and rocket blasters, and we'll all head off to Fruita, Colorado for the Mike the Headless Chicken Festival

This is absolutely for real! The story starts on September 10, 1945 when Fruita, Colorado, farmer Lloyd Olsen chose a chicken for his evening meal. Mr. Olsen cut off the bird’s head, but Mike just shook it off and continued trying to peck for food. He lived for 18 months and went on a national tour as “The Headless Wonder Chicken”. I know we can all relate to Mike’s example that you can live a normal life, even after you have lost your mind.

Can this event possibly be missed? There’s a 5k Run, Bike Poker Ride, Disc Golf Tournament, and eating contests, along with live music and food. I’m gonna buy a Mike the Headless Chicken T-Shirt and wear it, just to bug my brother! -- Mallow

Hi Engine!
My sister Callie and I got to play in the garage inside Whitey & Orangie’s cat carrier yesterday. We even ate out of their dry cat food dish! I tried to bring one of their catnip mice toys back inside with me, but Mom caught me and put it back. Aw, gee Mom! So this morning when Mom fed them, Whitey starting sniffing around, Orangie too. Then Mom said they both started rubbing their faces all over everything. We think this is a good sign. Afterwards, they both ate as usual and Whitey sat by Mom’s feet, taking her after-meal bath. Our dear furiend, Angel Q. Miss Millie had a good idea. She suggested Mom sit on the ground to be more at eye level with them. Whitey seemed to like this, but Orangie wasn’t too sure, so he kept his distance. Mom is going to keep doing this, hoping Orangie will eventually come around.

A Word With Whiskers – May 17

I’ll never be sure if it was wisdom or folly that struck that day, but I would think a little of both. We had been happily living with one cat for a couple of years, a fairly large black-&-white English Shorthair named Smedley. It was time for his annual exam & shots, so off we went to our local veterinarian’s office, puss in hand, or actually wrapped like up like an Egyptian mummy to save us from his dreaded claws.

“Ah!” Doc Pete said, with a twinkle in his eyes. “I’m glad you dropped in. I have a kitten out back that needs a home & I thought of you!”

Before I could stop him, his assistant brought out the tiniest marmalade tabby, weighing just over a pound, with a cast on his left front leg. He put him in my arms, looked up at me & said, “So what do you think?”

They say a sucker is born every minute & that was my minute. We took one look at the poor little thing & then at each other & we were done for. We found out that someone had broken his leg & tried to drown him in the nearest canal. A Good Samaritan had rescued him & brought him to the vet’s office.

“How will they get along?” I asked. “How do we go about introducing them to each other?”
“Oh, that’s no problem,” he said. “You just put him in a carrier, take him home, leave the carrier open & let Smedley think he is rescuing the kitten.”

Well, it sounded good. As per instruction, once we got home, we left the kitten in the carrier in the middle of the room. Then we sat back to watch. Smedley circled the box & growled deeper than I had ever heard him before. The kitten mewed plaintively while sticking a paw out of the holes in the side of the carrier. After about an hour, we decided to open the top of the carrier a little wider. Smedley walked up to the top, looked inside & was rewarded by a lightning strike from a small orange paw.

That was the last we saw of him that evening. I was convinced that the next morning would find us back at the vet’s office returning the little tyke. However, the next morning, we were in for a surprise. As I got up to put on the coffee, I saw the two of them curled up together on the sofa as if they were one cat with two smiling faces. From then on, Smedley watched over the little one as if he had given birth to him, and they went everywhere together.

Doc Pete was right!

Beware of flipped over rugs...
I'm giving myself a big paws up because I was the one that caught a mouse this time! I had to growl at my sisters to make sure they left him alone while I played so you can probably imagine the pleading looks on their faces as they were sidelined...MOL! When I was finished with my game I made sure to put the playing piece on mom's rug & flip it over so he was covered & she'd have fun finding her 'gift'. When mom headed in the direction that I'd hidden her special surprise I was right on her heels meowing. She saw the rug, flipped it back & I meowed "purrprise" & rubbed against her legs. Hmmm...I started thinking my lovely gift was not very appreciated because I heard her say "that's gross Patchy" before she called dad to remove it. She did pick me up & tell me that I was a good girl as dad tossed him outside so at least I know my prowess is appreciated, even if the hidden present was not...MOL! My sisters have been jealous so they're on rodent patrol when they're awake plus have been shadowing me everywhere I go. Dream on kitties because the Patchy mouse patrol is now in charge...MOL!

Well there's not much else happening yet on this cool, cloudy morning so will paw you a vote & a triple berry muffin so I can head toward a good napping spot. Have a purrfect weekend & I'll meow at you again next week.

The temperature was high 60 & low was 53 this morning, now it's 60 with humidity 69% & wind is 9 MPH WSW. Friday's suppose to be Showers & High 66.

♥ WOW!!!! What a MONTH of Adoptiversaries for our family, but luckily, That's All Folks!!!! Tehehehe!!!!

♥ I have been making sure I get lots of mom time everyday. I just love my mom so much!!!! I have been also sleeping by her feet the last week or so at bedtime which makes her real happy!!!!

♥ Mom went to PetSmart this morning to buy [2] 16 lb bags of Friskies Indoor; [3] 16 lb bags of Friskies Surfin Turfin; [1] 7 lb bag of Purina One Hairball; [1] 7 lb bag of Purina One Vibrant & Maturity & [1] 40 lb box of ExQuisiCat Litter. She got [2] FREE toys, too!!!!

♥ Well, mom is upset as my Feline Acne is coming back. She washes my face every morning after I eat my Fancy Feast can food and washes my food dishes alsmost every night before bed time.

♥ UPDATE: SASSEE 10605 seems to be doing better finally with not seemingly in so much pain like she had been due to her arthritis. Mom said the Dasuquin must be finally taking affect.

♥ UPDATE: SYLVESTER 11567 is no longer limping the last couple days. He will, however, will need to see Dr. Liz in a couple months for bloodwork to see how he is doing since his diagnosis of Early Kidney Failure in February.

♥ Mom and dad are set up for another yard sale starting Friday morning and ends on Saturday evening at 5:00pm so we may not get to visit everyone, but we will try!!!! Mom also changed my profile photo today.

Sea monkey hunt! 5-16-13
Be vewy vewy quiet - we're hunting for sea monkeys. I hear they might be snorkeling in the water hazards, so naturally we sent our fearless Pig-shark in to have a look see. In the meantime....

I think Steve must be trying to hook a sea monkey using pizza weenies for bait. Try little sea bananas instead. :) A 62 for Mr. Safari. Ana looking buff after a full day of sports yesterday comes to the sea hunt with a 47.

OnTheLookout LiLi stays alert to avoid Steve's golf grip on her shins and swings for a 64. Bart is slowly recovering from his grits pizza - would you like to supersize that? - and hits one toward the water hazard for a sinking 59.

Mimi isn't too sure about those open windows all night, must be a mosquitophobe. She leaves her 69 at the scorers table. Tucker pretends not to notice the girls and hits a 60, then heads to the food wagon - where the girls like to hang out. :)

Now Engine has a fine idea on how to use those left-over grits. Pot-hole fill! Excellent! She leaves a 62, and heads to the Snackster to handle the pizza stuffed mouse dogs. UBB does a little dilly-dallying on the veranda with a shot of Cat Daniels and a few tuna melt crackers before turning in a 55.

Bwana Bee Gee borrows Safari Steve and gun bearer/catty Gracie T-t for her underwater sea monkey safari, and turns in a score of 53 before setting out to the mysterious water hazard....

Ah, bringer-of-food Armani! And generous post-birthday Chloe, too. One can NEVER have too much birthday cake, I always say! They complete their morning with a 59 on the links. And finally, Mallow just can't wait to fling her 52 to the scorekeeper and go after a sea monkey or two herself. She races off to join the safari.

Busy day here, folks. I can feel the excitement building. Who will have the first sea monkey sighting? Who will bag the first sea monkey? Who will bag the biggest sea monkey? Who will bag the most sea monkeys? Who cares? :)

1st - Ana, 47. It pays to be buff.
2nd - Mallow, 52. She loves sea monkeys!
3rd - Bee Gee, 53. Mighty Bwana.

I think I see Pig's snorkel breaking the surface like a periscope. This could be it - the big sighting alert! He seems to paddling mighty fast! This must be important. He's approaching the shore. He's out of the water! And - what the.... What IS that thing? Oh man, nobody told poor Pig there were crawdads in the water hazards! Ouch, that must hurt. Anybody for a crawdad feed? :)

Looks like Mimi and LiLi will be heading out to the barn today. See if there's a REALLY big pot out there!

How are you today.Has been cloudy today and a little cooler here,so I got to explore more since the hot sun was not out.Missy did not want to go out,she stayed in to nap.Checked out my mousey bushes,the tall grass,I love sticking my head in that grass and looking around,saw a bug and tried to dig it out but it got away,then I ate some grass,and mom said watch out,here comes a groundhog,it was running fast around the buiding getting to its hole,we must have scared them,they sure can run fast!I shook my paw at him and keep on eating grass,they better not get in my grass hehe!Saw one of the outside kittys sleeping in the grass,I wanted to go say hi but mom said I don't think she wants a wack on the head Spongie.On we went,you cannot even walk through the grass for all those ugly worms all over,sure be glad when they are gone,ole ugly worms.Then we had to sit down for awhile mom got tired,I lay in the grass and looked around,Oreo lay far away from me today,hehe,Then I lay beside mom and played with a stick,then one of those ole worms was crawling right at me,I sure got up fast.Then mom said time to go in,I did not want to go so I lay down and when mom tried to get me up I slipped out of part of my harness,mom said Spongie now look what you did,you little stinker,she finaly got it back on me,I was hissing,growling really loud at mom,she said you better stop that before I wack your little furry behind for you,ole harness,ole cane looked at me and I got up and came in.Ate my food,then went and got in the open window and pouted awhile.Mom went to rest and I got mr.innertube and went to lay with her,she said well I see you are not pouting at me anymore,I gave her a big ole kitty kiss on her head,she gave me a big ole hug,then I ate my treats,napped beside mom for awhile.Moms ole tummy is still not all better yet,still on jello,soup,I said mom have some of my treats,that will help,hehe!Now I'm sitting in the window in the fresh air eating more treats,gotta have my treats so I can stay big strong to go out exploring!Wicket,Cindell,Missy naping,Baby looking out the window at a pretty red bird sitting in a bush.Are you all having any pawtys while mom,dad is gone,bet you sure do miss them,do you al get along with the sitter?Mom said thanks for thinking of her,that helps,she sadi if her tummy did not get better,she was going to turn into a huge blob of red,grape jello,thats all she eats!Glad you all liked the wormie drizzle.Sending you al some giggly with fresh cat grass on top,I made some mouse dogs with toad chips for you all,Gang baked some tad pole cookies with frog drizzle,and grasshopper bits on top, love ya all,pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.

What’s mew with you? I have WONDERFUL mews!!!! Dr. William called - my T4 by equilibrium dialysis thyroid test was NEGATIVE!!!! Thankfully that means I do not have hyperthyroidism.

I have decided that I really do not like to eat the Prescription Diet k/d canned food. I will eat the k/d dry but not the canned food. So Mommy has been busy researching other canned foods with low protein (less than 10%) for me. The crazy woman is also studying our food labels. Do I read the labels on all that junk SHE eats???

Tonight is my last dose of that nasty Clavamox for the UTI. After I have been off it for four days, Mommy will take my urine sample to Dr. William to be rechecked. Hopefully the UTI will be all gone.

Mommy & Nana have a meeting scheduled with Dr. William @ 9 a.m. this Caturday as they have a growing list of questions & concerns. Poor Doc! You would think they love me or something!!!

Hi Engine!
The saga of our outside kitties continues… My Mom lifted the top half of the cat carrier onto several old newspaper crates and set it beside the bottom half of the carrier. Whitey & Orangie were curious this morning when they saw it, but not afraid. They both sniffed around it and then went back to the business of eating. Mom plans to slowly slide the top half of the carrier onto the bottom half. This was a great idea from our dear furiend Mischief!

P.S. You know, the outside kitties didn't seem to react to our scent on the carrier. I think they were too busy wondering what the top half of the carrier was doing raised up on boxes. My Mom is going to let my sis and I check it out again today. I don't think I'll be able to sneak a quick spray, because Mom will be watching! MOL!

The Taste Sense Of Cats - (from PetSpeak)

Cats are blessed with a keen sense of smell. So while humans can smell broiled lobster, a cat can smell something like “broiled Maine lobster shipped in brine.” Despite their incredible sensitivity to smell, cats aren’t too concerned about taste. Of all their senses, taste is probably the least important to cats. Humans seek culinary perfection, but cats are mainly interested in whether the stuff they’re about to eat is nutritious or dangerous.

Cats tend to be more picky than dogs. One reason for this is that they’re carnivores, and spoiled meat is best left behind for scavengers. Another reason is that they’re, well, cats, and cats are generally more particular about life than dogs. Because they care more about what they put into their mouths, it’s tougher to slip them day-old food or extras like medicine.

Cats do seem to have one blind spot when it comes to taste: They have a very limited ability to identify sweets. While most animals prefer food with sucrose in it, cats don’t seem to notice it. In fact, researchers found that cats could not tell the difference between sugar water and plain water, even when the sugar level was so high that it was potentially dangerous.

Although flavor isn’t the most important thing to cats, food certainly is. It gives them a sense of comfort and well-being even as it satisfies their appetites. And it can be a powerful tool for communication as well. If you give a pet food he really likes, you’ll get his attention in a hurry.

Cats are creatures of habit, which means they’re most comfortable when they’re in familiar surroundings, with familiar people and familiar tastes. Just because people want to try different foods all the time doesn’t mean cats do too.

It’s fine to change foods periodically. Cats may get bored with the same food after a few months and will crave a new flavor. Let them have it. But make the change slowly by mixing some of the new food in with the old food for a few days. This will prevent diarrhea or other digestive problems that may occur when pets suddenly start eating something new.

THE ABILITY TO TASTE: The reason dogs and cats snack out of the trash can with the same gusto that they have for cleaning out their food bowls is that the food we throw out often has appealing flavor & aromas. There’s a significant difference in the number of tastebuds between pets & people. Here’s the comparison:
