Hi Strudel,
Your Mom and Dad are two of the most patient people we know! I know the kitchen is probably your Mom's favorite room so Mom and I are happy that the kitchen is done for her. Is the bathroom useable until the commode is installed?

That will be nice for the summer - your pawrents having the house and deck pressure washed and the deck stained. Mom always has the house and pavers pressured cleaned after the punk from the oak trees is done falling.

Is the project across the street almost finished or did they just add the kitchen remodel job to the fella's list? Is he the same gentlemen who built your deck & enclosure?

I'm thrilled to hear you are doing fine so soon after your surgery. Is your Mom home with you for a few days while you recuperate? I know she would love your being her purr-sonal lapwarmer!

I guess we all like our Moms the best regardless how nice and caring the catsitter is. Moms are the BEST!

That is great that the warm weather arrived and your Mom's tomato and hot pepper plants had a growth spurt.

Mom is working on labeling her pictures from vacation and will be glad to share them with your Mom. She will let you know when they are ready.

I bet you were just as happy to have your Mom back home as I was to have mine. It sounds like her trip to Asheville was very nice and relaxing. I'm so glad she took the time to spend a day at the first-class spa. Your Dad was very smart to get her a Spa pass. Your Mom is always doing things for other people but would never think to pamper herself!

How are you feeling tonight? I'm so sorry to hear you had to have surgery but sometimes that is necessary to ensure nothing is wrong. We have our paws crossed that the biopsy will come back negative. I know how Moms are...always worrying about us.

How are all your Mom's projects? Is the kitchen and bathroom completely done now - including the kitchen ceiling and the bathroom commode?

Oahu - day 3
Today we will try something VERY different. Picture yourself seated next to a window in an airplane flying 14,000 feet over Oahu’s North Shore. The view is magnificent, but right now you’re a little distracted. The thought of jumping out of a plane is enough to sidetrack anyone — but that’s just what you’re about to do. You’re not going to jump solo, of course. You signed up for a tandem dive, and your instructor will be right there with you. You’ve been properly trained before boarding the plane, and your instructor has jumped hundreds of times, but the riskiness of it is still enough to leave your heart pumping.

Lady Dolly and King Mike are skilled at this sport and will jump in tandem, not with an instructor. Watch how it’s done. There is a picture of their jump on my page. Check out those two crazy kits.

You and your instructor, who is attached to you like a Siamese twin, shuffle to the edge of the hatch. It’s now or never, so out you go. Words cannot describe the sensation of jumping out of an airplane at 8,000 to 14,000 feet. How do you explain fear for a mere moment, soon to be replaced by exhilaration that cannot be compared to anything you’ve ever done?

The “drop” is over. Now you’re floating, enjoying the view. If you’re game, the instructor will perform some twirls and stalls, and even let you “fly” the parachute by yourself. Suddenly, you notice the ground is coming up sooner than you’d planned. The instructor pulls up at precisely the right moment and settles you gently on the ground for a perfect landing.

You can expect the adrenalin rush to last for a while. After all, you just jumped out of an airplane.

Time to watch someone else risking their neck. We attend a polo match on the beach at Mokule‘ia and see a historic game that has been played in Hawai‘i for more than a century. Considered one of the fastest, roughest and most dangerous sports played today, polo was brought to Hawai‘i in the 1880s. The polo field at Mokule‘ia is the only one in the world that is located on a beach. Here we have a tailgate picnic, play ball and fly kites on the field during halftime while watching a skydive performance. Live music takes the stage when the match has ended.

Pearl Harbor, Honolulu … This memorial is a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives on a fateful day which launched the US into World War II when the Japanese military attacked on December 7, 1941.

Wikipedia tells us Pearl Harbor is a lagoon harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, west of Honolulu. Much of the harbor and surrounding lands is a United States Navy deep-water naval base. It is also the headquarters of the United States Pacific Fleet. The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Japan on Sunday, December 7, 1941 brought the United States into World War II. On December 8, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan. In return, December 11, 1941, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States.

The USS Arizona Memorial is the most recognized icon of World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument, a unit of the National Park Service. Access is gained through the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. Upon entering the visitor center, we head to the NPS Tickets & Information desk where we obtain free tickets for the USS Arizona Memorial program. While waiting for the tour to begin, we rent an audio tour headset, and explore the bookstore and exhibit galleries.

We watch a 75-minute program in one of two theaters. It includes a brief introduction to set the tone for the visit and a 23-minute documentary film which includes actual footage of the attack. After the film, we climb aboard a Navy-operated shuttle boat to the USS Arizona Memorial. Note: There are no public restroom facilities on the Memorial so we make quick stops before boarding our shuttle.

The Memorial spans the USS Arizona, a sunken WWII battleship which is the final resting place for most of her 1,177 Sailors and Marines killed in the December 7th attack. In the shrine room, we find a marble wall with the names of all of these men. In addition, we see a smaller marble wall, which lists the names of USS Arizona Survivors who, since passing away, have returned to their shipmates by having their ashes interred inside the fourth gun turret by Navy and NPS divers.

It is important to realize this is not a tourist attraction, but a memorial and grave that deserves to be treated with respect and reverence. This is a place of learning, reflection, and quiet contemplation.

Following our Pearl Harbor visit, we dine at a Five Diamond Hawaii Regional Cuisine restaurant, enjoying wonderful fish and local produce. The pineapple here is so very sweet. Tomorrow, we must head for the Dole Plantation.

hoping to get out into the garden after she gets back from her 7:45 appt. for the warts and right now nobody else in the house is up except for the cats and janet as well as pepper. so lazy they are. janet's got that sinus infect-ion still and so far has only taken zyrtec for allergies and hbp pill, not the cold pill. she's hoping to get the garden covered with netting and warned master no netting for his blueberries this year either, the garden comes first! sandy,ana,haley,angels

Here, Hawaii’s timeless beauty blends with the modern luxuries of today. We can swim in the warm waters of world-famous Waikiki one moment, then enjoy the dramatic mountain views of the Nuuanu Pali Lookout another; watch the surfers on the legendary North Shore by day, then dance the night away in vibrant nightlife spots around Honolulu; get a taste of local flavors in Kapahulu one night, then dine at a Five Diamond Hawaii Regional Cuisine restaurant the next.

Our first visit is to 350 acre Diamond Head crater, one of the best-known volcanic craters in the world, whose vantage point offers some incredible panoramas of Honolulu. We choose to start early to avoid the heat of the sun. Diamond Head State Monument encompasses over 475 acres, including the interior and outer slopes of the crater. This broad, saucer-shaped crater was formed about 300,000 years ago during a single, explosive eruption that sent ash and fine particles in the air. As these materials settled, they cemented together into a rock called tuff. The panoramic views of Waikiki and Oahu's south shore from the top are impressive. We will have many gorgeous photos for our memory books. We learn the crater was named Diamond Head by 19th century British sailors who thought they discovered diamonds on the crater's slopes. These "diamonds" were actually shiny calcite crystals that had no value. The volcanic crater, a major Oahu landmark, has been extinct for 150,000 years.

Next we travel to Iolani Palace, the only royal palace in the US. It was the official residence of King Kalakaua and Queen Liliuokalani, the last king and queen to rule Hawaii; the monarchy was abolished in 1893. We take the guided tour, which leaves us thinking our own Castle on CC is just as impressive and much more inviting to fun-loving kitties.

Unlike the visitor industry on the larger Hawaiian Islands, Molokai has preserved its true Hawaiian culture. More than one third of this island's residents have over 50% Hawaiian blood. Molokai residents farm, fish, hunt & gather many of their basic needs & they enjoy this lifestyle. Here we need to slow down, be less demanding, & respect the Molokai way of life. Lining the northeast coast are the towering cliffs of the North Shore Pali. At 3,600 to 3,900 feet from sea base to top, they are the tallest sea cliffs in the world; their near-vertical plunge ends 2000 feet below sea level. We step cautiously to the edge to peek over. Whoa, that’s a drop! Later in the day, we do some ocean kayaking along the face of the cliffs; this is amazing beyond belief! We also discover secret, secluded beaches, sea birds, & cascading waterfalls which provide incredible, photogenic scenery

We then hike into the East End’s classic cathedral valley to see Hawaii back in time. It is believed ancient Polynesians settled in lush Halawa Valley as early as 650 AD. This area, half a mile wide and three to four miles deep, and blessed with beautiful vistas and towering waterfalls, is one of the island's most historic areas. Roughly two miles up the trail is the impressive, double-tiered 250-foot Moa’ula Falls. If you’re considering taking a dip into the pool, drop a ti leaf into the water first. Hawaiian legend says that a giant moo (lizard) lives at the bottom of the pool. If the ti leaf sinks, the moo is in no mood for visitors. If the ti leaf floats, it’s safe to enter. Our ti leaves are forming a veritable flotilla, and we slip gratefully into the refreshing pool. Soon we are splashing and playing like … well, kitties.

We have been invited to a luau by the residents of a small village near Maunaloa, birthplace of the hulu. After dining on succulent roast pig, and all the tasty side dishes, we are given grass skirts to put on for a hula lesson. Soon we are dancing and telling the stories of the island, looking almost like natives.

Tomorrow we will head for the island of Oahu, where our Hawaiian adventure will eventually finish.

My Dear Fur Friend ♥ Strudel....
Mom and I hope so much your Mommy had a wonderful Mother´s Day!! I´m sure you all gave her tons of special purrs and kitty kisses. Here in Argentina we celebrate Mother´s Day in October.

Oh! That would be great if Tank can come home to help me and Sally to open our treats box! Kiska and Vika are coming too, I told them I will share our treats with every kitty who helps! MOL!

I hope your weather gets nicer soon, so you can enjoy sunny and warm days. It´s raining outside but it´s not very cold. I´m watching through the window while Mom writes my kitty letters. The cars pass by with their lights over the avenue and people walks with their umbrellas. We tried to blog yesterday but CC was super slow.

Dad gave my Mom a new BlackBerry cell phone a couple of days ago and she´s been chasing us with its camera! She loves taking pictures of us. MOL! Mom tells not to close my eyes when she´s about to take a photo of me. Tee-hee!
Last night she caught me yawning in my kitty bed; I meowed at her to let her know a lady must be ready for a photo!

We´re waiting for Grandma to come back from work and have supper together. We´ll be helping Mom to cook in a little while.

My Dear Fur Friend ♥ Strudel...
I was super happy to hear from you!! How are you, Mom and all the fur babies doing?...

We had a windy and quite cold day in Buenos Aires and I have been trying to stay over Mom´s lap as much as possible. Momma says I´m very chilly and that´s true, I have to say.
I don´t like when the floor is cold and I complain about it all the time. Mom puts me over my blanket or over her bed but I purr when I jump over her lap. She says autumn always has a couple of cold days and lots of rains. MOL!
Momma went to the Pets Shop after work and bought our dry food, she also brought Sally and me some chicken and cheese treats. She told us we can´t have them all at once, but I´ve seen where she keeps them: they are in a pink box over one of the kitchen counters.
Sally and me went on a special mission to sniff it and it is well locked. I wonder if there´s any way to open it without Mommy´s help... Tee-hee! I will have to think about it.

I hope you have a super purrfect Monday and a wonderful week. I send you tons of sandpaper kisses and warm hugs.

They are not supposed to advertise pets for sale on Craig's List but they do. The animal rights organizations ask people to go though and flag them and then the people at Craig's List will delete the ads. Mom does this when she remembers. They have them disguised too in different categories so you have to do searches for puppies, etc. They are allowed to advertise pets with a small rehoming fee only. There are tons of backyard breeders doing this- especially with puppies -- trying to make a buck.

Does Mom ride horseys too? My mom used to ride alot, but not too much now, she took her niece two years ago when she visited. Hugs and purrs,

We didn't know your mom was a vet tech before.. no wonder they love her at the spay and neuter clinic! We imagine that surgical assistance for kitties and humans are pretty similar anyway!! They are trying to ban the sale of cats and dogs in pet shops in San Diego. Mom thinks it is going to pass, it might cut down some puppy mill business, but you know they will find other ways to sell them like advertising in the papers. We think Craig's List has banned the sales of animals but there are lots of newspapers here that will carry the ads. ♥ Jazpyr 10428 and I Thank You for your visits to us each with your beautiful singing voices to our 9 year Adoptiversaries! You all sounded so sweet and in purr*fect tune! Thank you also for the sweet gifts, flowers, Piñatas and balloons. We Thank You mostly for your loving friendships to us.

♥ Mom and dad had their purr*sonal Bible Study today and I came in the front room to meow a few times. Mom fed me then she picked me up and held me. She knew I am hurting still.

♥ Mom did open dad's bedroom window this morning so we could go out in the cattery. Mom also mowed the front yard this morning.

♥ Mom did get an email today letting mom know that my Dasuquin should be here by Saturday then she will get me started on them and in hopes it will ease or even take away my pain.

Hi Strudel!
That's so cool that your mom is in charge of the OR for the feral cats! We guess her human nurse training is helpful for kitties!! They just started a low cost spay and neuter program at the Humane Society and we have a feral cat association here too. There are just too many unneutered kitties and dogs (especially the pit bull type) around here. Mom just saw in the news that they are proposing a law in San Diego to ban the sale of pets in retail establishments. We don't know how that would affect breeders but it is supposed to discourage the puppy mills.

That's great that your mom helps with spay and neuters. Mom used to volunteer at the Humane Society, she did pet therapy with my poodle friend. After Zooka crossed the bridge she did cat care but she felt like there were so many volunteers that nothing she did really made a difference.. (that's the whole part of volunteering, right...making a difference!). There also was a big shake up at the Humane Society and the director suddenly left too. They have tons of money and a gorgeous facility that would make you drool... (google San Diego Humane Society and you'll see what we mean)

Mom buys only low fat cheese so she'll probably pass on the Danish feta. She likes to crumble it on those lentils. They were sampling them yesterday with bruschetta on top. That bruschetta they have in a plastic tub is pretty good.

Good evening my sweet, sweet friend Strudel, Mom Ida and all the kitties at the Cathouse!! How are you?...
Thank you ever so much for your kind words and blog regarding Angel Bowie. They mean a lot to my Mom. She was very sad as she visited little Bowie often and she loved him too.
We´re really glad to read your dear Momma had a wonderful day celebrating her birthday!! I bet you gave her tons of special purrs and sandpaper kisses!! Right?

My Mom is definitely runing my social life. MOL! Yes, my mischievous Mommy is always telling me she has to do this, she has to do that... She needs to understand she is MY secretary and that I need her to write my kitty blogs!! I´m happy she´s home this evening. I just jumped over her lap to make sure she is really going to write my letters. (Tee-hee!).

We had a nice weekend. Our parents visited a marriage of Peruvian friends as the lady was celebrating her birthday. Mom told us they had a great time and she kept on talking about all the yummy food in the pawty. Too bad we didn´t get any of it.

The weather was lovely and sunny although it rained on Saturday night. After the rain we noticed about some little bugs in our food dishes. Mommy said they were ants and that they come with the humid weather. Sally and me saw them and started to meow load to alert Mom. We wanted them away from OUR food. Momma was not happy about them either. She changed our food and moved our dishes to another place. Then she washed the floor with a nasty fluid and told us they were gone for good.

Mom and Dad are looking forward to Wednesday when they will be off work since we´re celebrating Labor´s Day.
I hope you all have a super purrfect Monday. I send you a huge bunch of kitty kisses and hugs...
