My favorite tricks and treats are: We think her best trick is to look so cute...She sure tricked us into falling for her. and Boo Kitty's favorite treats are anything to eat and she loves tummy rubs.

Where I hang out: Boo Kitty loves people...so anywhere we are, she wants to be, too! :)

My favorite grubs: Boo Kitty loves her food, right now it's Royal Canin Kitten Food and she seems to really love it! What a good girl!

My pet peeves: So far, we don't know....sure they'll show up at some point, though.

UPDATE- Boo Kitty does not like her collars...any of them. :) We took off bells and medallions and she still does not like them. So, all those beautiful collars are back in the bag for a while. :)

What I love about my owners: My new family loves me already, 'cause I started purring when I arrived off the plane and I let them hold me and hug me, too.

I feel so loved because they chose me out of all the other kitties in the world. I guess I'm just a very special kitty.

My cat hobbies: Eat, play, sleep and play some more. Oh....and look pretty, of course.

Pet motto: MerryBelle sent this beautiful quote and I hope to try and live by it, too. “Love life and life will love you back. Love people and they will love you back.”

How We Met

We lost our rescue ragdoll kitty, Lucy (shown at bottom of page) to cancer on August 23, 2009 and we were devastated. In September, we began to search for another ragdoll and found her through a great breeder...saw her picture and fell in love on the spot!

UPDATE: Boo Kitty is home...She arrived today! :)

Her flight went well and when we took her out of her travel case, she was purring and hasn't stopped yet! :)

Her only complaint about the flight was that she had hoped to see a real movie and all they showed were cartoons... :)

She has played non-stop since we brought her home and has acclimated very well.

We are absolutely thrilled with her!

Boo Kitty's birthday is July 28, 2009

Her adoption date is Oct 9, 2009

Boo Kitty and Mom Jane
Whose heart doth hold the Christmas glow
Hath little need of Mistletoe;
Who bears a smiling grace of mien
Need waste no time on wreaths of green;
Whose lips have words of comfort spread
Needs not the holly-berries red—
His very presence scatters wide
The spirit of the Christmastide.

7 Ways to support an animal shelter at no cost!
1. Volunteer your time:.Animal shelters are often understaffed & can always use volunteers in various capacities. Just an hour or two of your time each week can really make a difference. “Whether you walk dogs at your shelter, stuff envelopes for an educational mailing or assist with a fundraising event, you can make a difference in the lives of animals,” says HSUS. To find out about volunteer opportunities, contact your local animal shelter.

2. Foster a pet: Pets have a much better chance of finding forever homes when they can be taken from scary shelters & placed in loving foster homes, where they learn basic obedience skills & good manners. When you foster a cat, dog or other pet, you will provide love, care & attention for a certain period of time or until the pet is adopted. You also open up a space in the shelter for another homeless pet, possibly saving a life. Sometimes the cost of food & veterinary care is covered by the shelter or a local rescue, or it may be tax deductible. Fostering “is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have (other than adopting, of course),” according to Petfinder.com

3. Donate old towels, blankets, pet items & more: Along with towels, blankets, sheets & old newspapers, you can donate your pet’s gently used bed, bowls, toys & other items. Be sure to call the shelter first or check its website for a wish list to find out exactly what is needed.

4. Share photos of the shelter’s pets on social media: Use your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & other social media accounts to post photos & information about pets available for adoption from the shelter. Ask your friends and followers to share the photos so they’re seen by as many potential adopters as possible.

5. Make pet toys from scratch: Even if you’re not especially crafty, you can create toys for shelter dogs & cats from old sweatshirts & other materials you probably already have around your house. (Check ideas on Pinterest <https://www.pinterest.com/brumzoo/diy-pet-toys/>. )

6. Host a fundraiser: On behalf of your pet’s birthday or another special occasion, throw a party & ask your guests to bring cash donations – &/or pet food — for your local shelter. For your own birthday, you can launch an online crowdfunding campaign on a site like GoFundMe.com & ask for shelter donations instead of gifts.

7. Spread the word about the importance of S/N pets: Every year, millions of homeless cats & dogs are euthanized in shelters. This could easily be prevented if people would S/N their pets to prevent unwanted litters. Tell everyone you know to S/N their pets.

“Cats are 45 times as prolific, & dogs 15 times as prolific, as humans,” NSALA’s nationwide network & referral service for affordable S/N.
“They do not need our help to expand their numbers; they need our help to reduce their numbers until there are good homes for them all.”
Thanks for your support. Prayers 4 all in need. Voted.Kitty Kisses. King Dean

CAHW The Center for Animal Health and Welfare
Formed in 1913, CAHW, formerly the Northampton County SPCA, is a private organization. We are not affiliated with any other SPCA or ASPCA. We are not a government agency, but are a non-profit organization with a 501c3 status. In 2003 we committed ourselves to saving lives & became a no-kill shelter. We are dedicated to providing a safe & healthy environment for animals. We have improved our foster program, increased adoptions & offer a low-cost S/N program.
Fund raising, donations & bequests make up 90% of our income & we apply for many grants. Adoption fees, relinquishment fees, memberships & agreements with some of the local municipalities, to take in their strays, generate the rest of our revenue. Although we greatly appreciate the help from the municipalities that do support us, not all do. Northampton County contributes about $5,000.
We are responsible for a $900,000 operating budget annually. Our major costs are: Veterinary care, Medical supplies, Kennel supplies, S/N expenses, Insurance, Utilities, & Payroll.
Adoption: We make every effort to find loving homes for these scared & lonely pets. We do not set a fixed time limit on animals, but keep them for as long as they remain adoptable.
Lost & Found Services: Each year, hundreds of anxious owners visit our shelter, fill out reports, & are soon reunited with their lost pets.
Reducing the Tragic Overpopulation of Pets: The sad truth is that there are far more animals than there are loving homes for them. We conduct an ongoing campaign to encourage the neutering of all pets. With the cooperation of local veterinarians, we fund a low-cost pet S/N program.
Sadly, as a last resort, we do euthanize animals who are too sick or have aggression issues & cannot safely be placed in a home. We never euthanize an animal because of lack of space. We do not, under any circumstances, send any animal to laboratories for experimental use.
Humane Education: Through schools & community groups, we teach compassion & respect for all animals, as well as the responsibility of pet ownership, pet care, training, health & the importance of neutering.
This is the shelter where Mom adopted Angel Ricky & I on 1/30/05. Angel Ricky developed FIP and crossed five months later & Mom adopted Angel Anderson on 8/25/05. He crossed the RBB on 6/19/14. Legend was adopted 8/23/14. Mom has volunteered at the CAHW since 2005.
Thanks very much for your support. Voted. Prayers 4 all in need. Peace & love. Kitty Kisses. King Dean

Morning Boo Kitty & mom Jane,
just pawing by with this little poem, we just wanted you both to know that we are thinking of you today!! :)

I thought you might enjoy this poem:

Thanksgiving Ghost

The last piece of Pumpkin pie is gone;
How did it disappear?
The bowl of delicious stuffing
Has also vanished, I fear.

It happens each Thanksgiving,
When leftover goodies flee,
And each of us knows the responsible one
Couldn't be you or me. Tehehehe

The only way it could happen
Is readily diagnosed;
It must be the crafty, incredibly sneaky,
Still hungry Thanksgiving ghost.

By Karl Fuchs

Wishing you & your family a wonderful Thanksgiving day!!

CHK The Cat House on the Kings
CHK is CA's largest no-cage, no-kill, lifetime cat sanctuary & adoption center. Our mission is to place rescued cats & kittens into loving, permanent homes; to provide a safe, happy & healthy home for unwanted cats & kittens in a unique, no-cage facility; to prevent pet overpopulation through S/N; & to educate the public about responsible pet ownership. CHK is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, receives no government or public funding, & relies entirely on donations from the public to carry out its mission.
Founded 23 years ago by Lynea Lattanzio, CHK has saved over 24,000 cats & 7,000 dogs (not counting the 40,000 animals we have S/N) & currently cares for more than 700 cats & kittens, a dozen or so dogs & a handful of peacocks. Our mission is to: provide a no-cage, no-kill sanctuary for feral & abandoned cats & kittens for the CA, primarily serving the Central Valley; facilitate the adoption of cats (primarily), dogs & other rescued animals into safe, loving, healthy & permanent homes; educate the public on how to become directly involved in improving the quality of animal welfare; offer low cost S/N referrals. In 2002 CHK achieved non-profit status. In 2003, Lynea, with more volunteers & money, continued to expand CHK & added an area dedicated to the care of FIV+ cats. By 2004, CHK population had grown to over 500 cats & kittens.
CHK offers a variety of services:
Advice & Education: We offer assistance & education in behavioral problems with cats & assist people in finding new homes for their cats. We also advise thousands of people from around the world who contact us through our website & at our local, public events about all manner of cat issues.
Adoption Center: All of our cats are available for adoption. We do our utmost to find the best possible homes for our cats; none are euthanized except to relieve suffering. The cats live out their lives in our sanctuary until they are either adopted or die of old age — however long that may be. Every year, CHK adopts out approximately 500 cats ( & some dogs).
Sanctuary: We care for over 700 unwanted cats & kittens. Individuals surrender cats to us for a fee of $5000 per cat to provide lifetime support & care. Every cat is given necessary medical care, & is S/N & vaccinated. They are placed in cottages to become familiar with their surroundings. Once they're comfortable with their new digs, they are released onto the sanctuary grounds, & can roam about at will. The grounds are fully fenced & secure.
Low cost S/N: CHK works with local veterinary clinics to provide affordable rates for S/N surgery. We also provide transport between CHK & the surgery clinic.

SAINTS Senior Animals in Need Today Society
SAINTS was started in December 2004 after volunteers at other animal shelters saw many senior animals spending their last days in a shelter or pound. From the time we opened our doors, the number of animals in need has been astounding & ever-growing. When SAINTS moved into it’s first location it started with 16 cats, 12 dogs & 2 rabbits. SAINTS has since found it’s permanent home on 3 beautiful acres in Mission, BC with a warm & cozy home, a sturdy & well constructed barn, several outbuildings just waiting to be renovated for future use plus fields to play in & a pond to swim in… we have found a little bit of heaven on earth for our very special friends.
SAINTS has had over 765 animals come in through it’s doors. Over 280 have been adopted into wonderful loving homes. 320 have passed away in loving care at SAINTS & the remaining 112 still call SAINTS their home. We currently have 47 Saints in permanent foster homes. We are an end-of-life sanctuary for senior & special needs animals that have nowhere else to go. We provide a special place to be loved, cherished, & receive proper medical care for the rest of their days. All animals deserve to have hope for a better tomorrow. We pledge to love them, to care for them, & make their dreams come true. We promise each of them that they will never be alone again.
At various shelters throughout B.C., dedicated staff
& volunteers work tirelessly to find these special
animals a place to finish their journey in comfort &
in love. Because of their infirmities & physical challenges, many homeless senior & special needs animals have very little chance of finding a new home. SAINTS exists to help senior & special needs animals when all else fails. If we can, in time, find them a special home
of their own, then we do. If that very special home
never comes, they will be safe & cherished until the
end of their days.
Most of the animals that arrive at SAINTS are from
local animal shelters that didn’t have space for them
in their shelter as most SAINTS animals are seniors
or special needs & would have a hard time getting
adopted from a shelter. Other animals that come to
SAINTS are owner surrendered most often from senior
citizens who, due to health concerns, are no longer
able to care for their animals. Sometimes these animals
lose their homes when their senior caregiver passes away.
When an animal is brought to SAINTS it is assessed
as to the possibility of either adoption to a permanent
home, remaining a lifelong sanctuary animals or supportive care in a permanent foster home. This is determined by their level of care required, any existing health conditions or any that develop while in care.
All of our funding is raised through volunteer-driven
fundraising events or through private donations from
our supporters. No report from any of the charity watchdog groups. Thanks for your support. Prayers 4 all in need. Voted. Kitty Kisses. King Dean

LNPB Leave No Paws Behind
LNPB is a 501 (c) 3 non profit corporation
governed by the laws of the State of CA. We are an all breed, all foster based rescue, specializing in seniors, terminal & end of life animals, & pets with special needs. When possible we step up, most times in the “11th” hour when all hope is gone, to help save the
lives of those that are in most danger of being left behind to die on a cold shelter floor.
LNPB provides hospice care, comfort, love & a safe haven for the terminally ill & the hard core cases & LNPB will never board a rescued animal. Upon rescue, we immediately have all of our rescues vetted, & LNPB never determines the outcome or diagnosis, & rely on the expertise of our skilled & excellent team of DVM’s. Those with minor, treatable medical needs & disabilities per diagnosis from the Doctor’s are placed in the loving care of fosters until they are adopted. LNPB’s more serious medically challenged rescues, such as seniors who may suffer with terminal &/or severe mobility medical conditions as diagnosed by the Doctor’s, are
placed in loving hospice/long term foster care for as long as needed.
From time to time, & when deemed necessary by our Doctor’s diagnosis, we have the sad task of helping our beloved animals cross the rainbow bridge. We are with them, holding & loving them until they peacefully
pass quietly in our arms. We do not hesitate to pull the terminally ill or the ones the shelter will inevitably PTS due to sickness & inability to walk as we cannot bear having them die alone, frightened & sadly wondering. We are doing for our four legged friends what they cannot do for themselves because their life matters. We are their voice & we will continue saving lives one paw a time as we make every effort to assure we Leave No Paws Behind. LNPB relies solely on public donations, no amount is to small & all amounts benefit the health & well fare of abused & abandoned animals & are tax deductible.

GuideStar gives LNPB 5 out of 5 stars, other charity groups did not evaluate.
Thanks very much for your support. Prayers 4 all in need. Voted. Peace & love. King Dean

ARF Animal Rescue Foundation
ARF saves dogs & cats who have run out of time at public shelters & brings people & animals together to enrich each others lives. ARF strives to create a world where every loving dog & cat has a home, where every lonely person has a companion animal, & where children learn to care. ARF is a national leader in the animal welfare industry co-founded by Elaine & Tony La Russa in 1991. The nonprofit receives no government funding. ARF’s core mission is the rescue of dogs & cats who have run out of time at public shelters, giving them a chance at life until a new home can be found. ARF couples this focus with innovative programs strengthening the human-animal bond for children, seniors, veterans, & people in disadvantaged circumstances. Through ARF, people
experience the unconditional love & acceptance of dogs & cats to fulfill a mission of “People Rescuing Animals…Animals Rescuing People…”
The catalyst for ARF came when a stray tortoiseshell cat looking for food took a wrong turn & suddenly found herself on a baseball field in the Oakland Coliseum. The frantic cat dashed around the field, panicked & unable to find a way out, she slinked towards the infield, exhausted from her ordeal. Tony La Russa, manager for the Oakland Athletics, coaxed her into the dugout where she spend the rest of the game in safe confines. Sadly there was not a single no-kill shelter in the SF Bay Area & the little cat would likely be euthanized. The La Russas finally placed “Evie” in a permanent, loving home where she could live out her natural life. The experience caused Elaine & Tony to take action. Less than a year later, they co-founded ARF with the goal of rescuing dogs & cats before they ran out of time at high-kill shelters. With a small team of driven volunteers, ARF worked saved the lives of more than 100 dogs & cats its first year. ARF realized rescuing animals was as important as the remarkable role they play in the lives of people. ARF's dual mission of "People Rescuing Animals...Animals Rescuing People" was born. Early humane education programs began in 1993, ingraining an early love of animals in school-aged children. Two years later, a therapy animal team & other programs introduced the unconditional love & acceptance of animals to seniors, veterans, at-risk youth, & more people in need. Programs to help low-income pet guardians keep their beloved pets in homes & out of shelters soon followed.
Today, ARF is renowned as a local leader & national model in the animal welfare community. Since its inception, ARF has re-homed more than 30,000 dogs & cats saved from public animal shelters, performed more than 28,000 S/N surgeries to combat pet overpopulation, & is home to an array of innovative outreach & education programs bringing people & animals together to enrich each other's lives.
Charity Navigator gives 4 stars, GuideStar awards 5 stars,& BB Wise Giving says ARF meets the 20 Standards of Accountability. King Dean

PEF The Pets for the Elderly Foundation
PEF began in Cleveland in 1992, & expanded nationally in 2001 with a goal of saving as many companion animals as possible from euthanasia. We have a small staff, & all administrative costs are paid by the founder's related foundation. Currently there are 48 participating shelters in 27 states. More shelters are added as funding becomes available. Our goal is to save the lives of 6,000 companion pets annually, while enhancing the lives of an equal number of senior citizens.

PEF is a 501 (c)(3) public charity whose mission is to provide companionship to senior individuals through pet ownership, while saving the lives of companion animals in shelters; animals which might otherwise be destroyed due to lack of appropriate homes, & space limitations. PEF began with two shelters near Cleveland, Ohio. Since then, PEF has seen great success & has grown to a nationwide program. PEF branched out nationally in 2002, & has helped successfully place nearly 57,000 companion animals with senior adopters. PEF helps pay the fees to participating animal shelters throughout the US for senior citizens (age 60 & over) who adopt a companion dog or cat from a participating shelter - including pre-adoption veterinary exams & S/N, if part of the adoption fee. Research shows the most serious disease for older persons is not cancer or heart disease - it's loneliness. Pets offer affection, unconditional love, fight loneliness, & can help ease the loss of a loved one.

PEF provides financial support for the adoption of companion pets, cats & dogs only.
It does not accept unwanted dogs & cats. We are strictly financial support for adoption programs with participating shelters. One can not adopt a dog or cat directly through PEF. We are strictly financial support for adoption programs with participating shelters. We do not have the facilities to house adoptable animals, nor do we match pets & adopters. We are a small business office only, & do not have space for volunteers.

The fee for adopting a pet through a PEF shelter will vary depending upon location. PEF underwrites a portion of the adoption cost for dogs & cats at participating shelters. Because our program is located in 58 shelters in 30 different states, adoption fees & policies can vary widely. The Foundation business office is just outside Phoenix, AZ. We do not have branch offices, but our participating shelters are in 30 different states.

GuideStar, Charity Navigator & BBB Wise Giving all have no review for this group.
Thanks very much for your support. Prayers 4 all in need. Peace & love. Kitty Kisses. King Dean

NKAC No Kill Advocacy Center
NKAC, founded in 2004 by Nathan Winograd, was the nation’s first & at the time, only full-service No Kill
community, saving not only dogs & cats, all community cats, & rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, horses, & others. In 2005, NKAC held its first No Kill conference, with less than two dozen people attending. In 2013, hundreds of cities & towns across America have save rates better than 90% & as high as 99% using our No Kill Equation model of sheltering. In 2005, we talked about the goal of saving at least 90%. In 2012, we weren’t satisfied with 98% as we explored what’s possible when we reach higher.
The NKAC’s influence is not only increasing,
it is widening. Almost half of all attendees at the No Kill Conference(46%) came from shelters, including many municipal facilities subject to public acrimony over high rates of killing. They are increasingly looking
to the NKAC, & not traditional national organizations,
because while we offer condemnation when it is deserved, we also offer solutions & assistance. If shelters want to save lives, they do not want antiquated dogmas which represent the past. That can only mean good things as we collectively move toward our inevitable No Kill future.
Nathan J. Winograd is the Director of the national NKAC. He has spoken nationally & internationally on animal sheltering issues, has written animal protection legislation at the state & national level, has created successful No Kill programs in both urban & rural communities, and has written five books on the No Kill Equation.
There are communities in the US that have eliminated population control killing. We want, & the animals deserve, No Kill in every city in the country. But it requires shelter leaders committed to these goals & embarking on a campaign of diligent implementation. That is where we must focus our efforts at reform. Only the No Kill Equation model has achieved this success. It is a program model which changes the way shelters operate & which gives the animal loving public an integral role in that operation. If a community wants success, this is how to go: nothing else has succeeded.
No Kill shelters can be public or private, large or small, humane societies or municipal agencies. About 9,000,000 people now live in communities saving 90% or more of dogs & cats in their shelters. Over 35,000,000 live in communities saving 80% or more of dogs and cats. The numbers continue to grow.
None of the 4 charity watchdog groups have evaluated NKAC. However, the concept fortunately has spread & saved millions of lives & will continue to do so.
Thanks very much for your support. Prayers 4 all in need. Peace & Love. King Dean

PFV Pets for Vets: Healing Vets & Saving Pets
PFV believes our country owes military veterans a debt of gratitude. Our soldiers have been brave but many of them have returned with physical & emotional injuries that have made it difficult to transition back to civilian life. Some estimates state that as many as 20% of returning military veterans suffer from PTSD.
Needy shelter dogs receive a second chance at life while giving our returning soldiers a second chance at health & happiness. The bonds of friendship formed between man & animal have the power to ease the
suffering of our troops when they return from overseas. PFV is a concrete way to thank U.S. Military Veterans for their service.
Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law With each veteran-pet match we provide the necessary equipment for them to start their new life together.Veterans in our chapter areas who could benefit from having a companion animal & who are also able to care for an animal are eligible to receive a PFV companion animal.

The PFV program is dedicated to supporting veterans & providing a second chance for shelter pets by rescuing, training & pairing them with America’s veterans who could benefit from a companion animal. The Pets… 3 to 4 million dogs & cats are euthanized each year. These
animals can make excellent companion animals but never have that chance. Our dedicated animal trainers will evaluate & rescue the shelter animals & provide additional training to ensure that they are able to assimilate into a home, which is quite different from a shelter environment. The Vets… Sadly, there are alarming statistics of suicide, family abuse & PTSD facing veterans returning to civilian life after military duty. This can cause a downward spiral of apathy, unemployment, broken relationships, addiction & depression. It is our
belief that companion animals can be the life saving therapy or friend that many returning service men & women need.
Medical studies have shown that companion animals significantly improve mental & physical health, including reducing stress, depression &anxiety, symptoms experienced by many serving in the military.
The PFV team interviews each veteran to ascertain what he or she is looking for in a companion animal; we pair this with his or her personality & lifestyle to make the perfect veteran-pet match. Once the perfect pet is selected for the veteran, the pet spends time in the home of one of our trainers who teaches the pet basic obedience & other valuable behaviors needed to live with his/her new owner. This can include becoming comfortable with wheel chairs or behaviors needed to help with
PTSD & Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
Check out the website for PFV apparel. GuideStar gives 5 out of 5 stars. Thanks for your support. Prayers 4 those in need. Peace & love. Kitty Kisses.

PCRM is a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., which promotes a vegan diet, preventive medicine, alternatives to animal research, & encourages what it describes as "higher standards of ethics & effectiveness in research." Its primary activities include outreach & education about nutrition & compassionate choices to healthcare professionals & the public; ending the use of animals in medical school curricula; & advocating for legislative changes on the local & national levels.

PCRM is leading a revolution in medicine—putting a new focus on health & compassion. PCRM combines the clout & expertise of more than 12,000 physicians with the dedicated actions of 150,000 members across the US & around the world. Our efforts are dramatically changing the way doctors treat chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, & cancer. By putting prevention over pills, doctors are empowering their patients to take control of their own health. PCRM is also building a new way of viewing research. Since 1985, PCRM has been working tirelessly for alternatives to the use of animals in medical education & research & advocating for more effective scientific methods. Their staff of physicians, dietitians, & scientists is working with policymakers, industry, the medical community, the media, & the public to create a better future for people & animals.
Priorities include:
Shifting research from animal “models” to human-relevant studies, Bringing nutrition into medical education & practice, Conducting clinical research on healthful diets that builds the foundation for the role of nutrition in medicine, Educating & empowering people to take control of their health through Kickstart, Food for Life, & other nutrition programs, & Working with policymakers & industry to adopt alternatives to chemical tests on animals.

PCRM is Shifting Away from Animal-Derived Antibodies in Medical Research. Antibody production is a massive industry as antibodies serve as fundamental tools in biomedical research. The vast majority of research antibodies are produced by live animals using procedures that are extremely painful & ultimately lethal. PCRM scientists are working to prove that antibodies can be made without harming animals. Our goal is to demonstrate the viability of fully in vitro antibodies, promote their acceptance by researchers, & force a change in the funding requirements of the National Institutes of Health.
GuideStar awards PCRM 4 out of 5 stars, Charity Navigator award 3 out of 4 stars.

Thank you to all my friends for your support
Thank you all so very much for your support throughout October. So many of you stopped to vote daily & complimented me on all my blogs. I am so pleased they were enjoyed & so many learned important information from them. I am especially thrilled that I was able to inform so many kitties of several ways to help shelter pets without spending a penny. Several clicks every day from so many friends here can really make a difference.
I want to thank Legend for all his hard work researching the animal groups & charity watchdog groups & the sites that support animals. Mom enjoyed helping with my catpaign too. Basically I mostly covered groups helping cats & dogs but several help other animals too. I know many of you also support & donate to your local shelter which is wonderful. In addition to funds, shelters appreciate used bedding; sheets, blankets, comforters, pillow cases & towels. They can always use paper towels, bleach, cleaning products & office supplies. They are happy for gently used cat & dog toys & unused medications & medical supplies. They can use cards, stamps & also many hold flea markets or yard sales & can use second hand items to sell. There are so many unwanted animals in the shelters who are not as lucky as us to have loving families. We need to encourage TNR & S/N among our friends & communities. I hope I have given you all the tools to use daily so we can continue to help those unwanted animals.
I am very honored to be crowned the November King of CC. There were times when Mom & I thought I might not make it, as CC was not very cooperative. I am proud to join the wonderful group of Royals crowned before me. Many thanks to all my fantastic friends.
It does seem as though I have reached lots of kitties with my blogs & several are making the effort to click on sites that will help. This means so much to me. I am thrilled that I have been able to help cause a contributing influence that will have the end result of helping shelter pets. This was my dream & it seems as though I have achieved this. I knew all our wonderful friends would agree with me & make the effort to help less fortunate cats & dogs. Prayers 4 all. Voted. Peace & love. Kitty Kisses. King Dean

SPCAI SPCA International
SPCAI goal: Advance the Safety & Well-Being of Animals

Operation Military Pets: We've helped over 100 military families' pets since 2013. When military families are ordered to a new base in the U.S. or around the world, moving bills pile up. The military pays for many moving costs, but they do not help relocate their beloved pets. The cost for pet transportation can be hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Military families are being torn
apart due to financial strain. All over the US, animal shelters near military bases report high surrender rates when military families cannot afford to relocate their dogs or cats. To help keep military families together & animals out of shelters, Operation Military Pets provide
financial assistance to military families for pet relocation costs.

Shelter Grant Program: We've helped hundreds of animal shelters since 2007. We give direct support by awarding Shelter Grants to many animal organizations in need of
assistance throughout the U.S. & all over the world. These much needed funds go toward helping animal shelters improve their facility, as well as supporting S/N programs & ultimately reducing euthanasia rates.
SPCAI distributes Emergency Grants to shelters when they need it the most, in urgent crisis situations.

Global Animal Veterinary Assistance: We've provided many millions in supplies since 2009. Each year SPCAI
distributes critical veterinary medical supplies to animal shelters throughout the world. As a result, organizations in developing countries have been able to treat more sick & injured animals. These donations along with financial grants have allowed organizations to provide successful S/N events throughout the year. We have distributed millions of dollars in veterinary medical supplies to shelters on almost every continent.

Operation Baghdad Pups: We've helped over 500 U.S. service members' animals since 2008. US troops deployed around the world befriend local animals as a way to cope with the emotional hardships they endure every day far from home & loved ones. These animals, often called military mascots or patriot pets, not only help our heroes while stationed overseas, but also help them readjust to life when they return home. This highly successful & celebrated program has been reuniting U.S. service members with their companions. Operation Baghdad Pups provides veterinary care & coordinates complicated logistics & transportation requirements in order to reunite these beloved pets with their service men & women back in the U.S.

The Pedigree Certificate of Recognition: In 2009, Mary Tyler Moore & Bernadette Peters from Broadway Barks
presented SPCAI with the Pedigree Certificate of Recognition honoring the success of our popular program "Operation Baghdad Pups".

GuideStar awards SPCAI 4 out of 5 stars, Charity Navigator gives donor advisory and BBB Wise Giving has no report.

BCR Blind Cat Rescue
BCR was started in 2005 to answer the need for a safe place for blind cats that were deemed not adoptable by regular shelters. They were going to be killed just because they are blind. In 2011 a building was erected to provide a safe sanctuary for FELV+ & FIV+ cats. BCR accepts an animal into the sanctuary IF they have space available. Blind cats must be certified by a vet as blind. Cats with 20% or less sight are accepted as blind. All cats must be fixed. FELV+ cats must be verified by an IFA test. FIV+ cats must be verified by the Western Blot test. BCR will NOT accept a cat as positive based upon the snap test.

Blind cats do not know they are blind, they know they are cats. They act like cats. Blind cats can do pretty much everything that a seeing cat can do. They can climb trees, climb up on to the top of cabinets & get into places that you can't figure out how they did it. To make it easier on your blind cat try to stay some what consistent on the important things, like the litter box & food bowls. For the rest of the house, live normal; they will go around things. If you watch a blind cat, you will see that they point their whiskers out so the whiskers will brush against something typically before they hit it. You CAN move your furniture. They will quickly readjust to the change. If you pick up a blind cat & move him/her from point A to point B, try to put them down where they have a good idea of where they are: in the litter box, at their food bowl or where floors have different textures. A cat can become blind from many things.

If your cat has suddenly over night become blind, RUSH the cat to the vet! Insist on them checking the cat’s blood pressure (That is not something done automatically at most vets) IF the blindness is from hypertension & caught fast enough, it may reverse with medicine. They can also become blind from diabetes, hyperthyroid, upper respiratory infections, & from not being wormed. Worms will migrate around the cat’s body, including up behind the eyes where they destroy the optic nerves, & thus the animal becomes blind. If your cat is sneezing, coughing & eyes are gooey, get to the vet! If your cat is eating like crazy & losing weight or drinking water like there is no tomorrow RUN to the vet!
BCR is a registered non-profit 501©3 in the state of NC. GuideStar gives BCR 5 out of 5 stars as does Great Nonprofits. Not rated by Charity Navigator.

DDAL Doris Day Animal League
DDAL is a national nonprofit citizen’s lobbying organization dedicated to protecting animals through policy initiatives, education, & corporate engagement. DDAL was founded in 1987 by legendary actress & devoted animal advocate Doris Day. DDAL was formed to help influence U.S. Congress, government agencies, & state & local officials to pass new laws & enforce existing laws that reduce the suffering of animals anywhere they are mistreated. Through dedication & tireless efforts, DDAL has won many victories over the years. Even when faced with well-funded industry opposition, we continued to fight to protect innocent animals from the agony forced on them through neglect, ignorance, & greed. Some of DDAL's victories:
In the 1990s DDAL helped CA lawmakers realize common industry chemical tests on animals were inhumane, inconclusive & unnecessary. DDAL was able to end animal torture & protect untold animals from these practices. In 2013, the U.S. Dept of Agriculture announced breeders selling puppies & kittens directly to the public via Internet, mail or phone would be subject to the same licensing & inspection regulations as those selling to brokers or pet stores. DDAL is continually improving the lives of animals & helping to end the despicable & inhumane treatment of animals that still exists across America today.
URGE YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TO SUPPORT THE HUMANE COSMETICS ACT: Help spare the lives of innocent animals by urging your representative to co-sponsor the Humane Cosmetics Act. This act will replace outmoded & painful testing of cosmetic, household & industrial products by providing funding for review & approval of newer & more humane practices.
URGE CONGRESS TO MAKE IT A FEDERAL CRIME TO ABUSE & TORTURE ANIMALS: Finally federal animal cruelty legislation has been introduced in Congress. The Prevent Animal Cruelty &Torture Act (PACT) would empower the FBI & U.S. Attorneys to prosecute animal abuse cases across state lines. This act will close important loopholes & allow prosecution of the most heinous crimes against innocent animals.
EUTHANASIA DOESN’T HAVE TO BE CRUEL: Most shelters struggle with a surplus of homeless animals, a shortage of loving homes, & a severe lack of funding. This mix forces them to turn to euthanasia as the unfortunate outcome to these overwhelming factors. DDAL always supports programs & policies designed to end euthanasia completely, while also strongly supporting the principle when it must be performed, it must be done humanely. DDAL is working to end the practice of euthanizing animals with carbon monoxide & carbon dioxide gas chambers. 23 states have banned gas chambers, but many state’s shelters continue this unnecessary practice for no legitimate reason.
DDAL is not eligible to be rated by Charity Navigator as it does not meet required tax status of a 501(c) (3) public charity, this does not indicate a positive or negative assessment.
Thanks very much for your support. Prayers 4 all. Dean

Good search is an excellent search engine, the only one my Mom ever uses.
Works like goggle, yahoo etc but you pick your charity & every time you search the internet,
1 penny goes to your charity! Mom has been using it for years & has raised $77.30 for our shelter
Other benefits to help your charity are buying items thru Goodshop.

If, by chance, your nonprofit or school isn't listed, it is pretty easy to add them to the list!
Over the past 9 years, we've helped organizations do everything from medical research, to buying books for local libraries, to helping clean up pollution from city rivers. This has only been made possible by you, & the nearly $12 million dollars that you have helped us raise.

If you already know the cause that you would like your online shopping to support, then head on over to our pick a cause page & make your selection. If not, we have a collection of 60 featured causes for you to look through & read about, in order to help you make your choice. You can change your cause at any point. We provide contact information for all the organizations we've partnered with, in case you want to do a little more research before making any commitments. Once you've signed up for a nonprofit & chosen the stores you love to shop at, the rest is history. Sit back, relax, and, of course, shop. And remember, the more friends that you get involved, the more you'll be able to raise for your cause!

Imagine a world in which every shopper was a Goodshopper
In the U.S. alone, Americans spend $300 billion in e-commerce per year. If even 3% of that revenue was funneled into the nonprofit sector, it would mean a bonus of $90,000,000 every single year - important money needed for these great organizations to be able to continue doing the work we all need them to do. DELTA Dedicated & Everlasting Love to Animals
DELTA Rescue is the largest “No Kill, Care-for-Life,” Animal Sanctuary of its kind in the world. Founded by Leo Grillo in 1979, DELTA Rescue incorporated as a non-profit animal rescue organization in 1981 & that same
year became a tax-exempt 501 [c] 3 organization. The DELTA Rescue Super Sanctuary is home to more than 1500 animals that have all been abandoned in the wilderness. Located in the high desert area of LA, this 115-acre mountain top ranch is surrounded by rolling hills & is beautifully landscaped. It is truly a haven for the animals lucky enough to have crossed paths with its
founder.

The dog & cat residents of the Super Sanctuary, were all personally rescued in the wild by Leo Grillo, founder & president of DELTA Rescue. Abandoned, sick & slowly starving, they were days away from certain death. But at the Super Sanctuary, it is the joy of a rich & happy new life that greets the rescued animals. . . days filled with good food, playtime and the knowledge that they are not only safe but greatly loved.

Featuring individualized areas for dogs & cats, the Super Sanctuary is always a work in progress, constantly growing to compete with the increasing animal abandonment population. A full-time construction crew is
on staff to continually build, expand, repair & fence as more & more rescued animals are brought into the facility.

More than 800 dogs of all breeds, shapes & sizes live in huge yards that feature straw bale houses & a wading pool for those hot summer months. The insulating quality of the straw bale houses keep the dogs cozy warm in the winter & nice and cool in the summer.

The cats at DELTA live in houses with indoor/outdoor play areas. While outdoors they travel from perched “condo” to perched “condo” on a series of suspended walkways, able to enjoy the fresh air & sunshine
without the threat of predators.

DELTA has two veterinary hospitals & a full time veterinary staff on the premises. They have state of the art equipment & are able to give the finest care possible to all the residents of the SuperSanctuary.

“Animals are people to me” says founder, Leo Grillo. “And as such, we will not condone the disposing of pets any more than the disposing of children.” DELTA Rescue is the only organization that absolutely refuses to accept animals from the public when they want to give them up. Instead, DELTA Rescue became the first no-kill, care-for-life organization in the world, & rescues only animals that are abandoned in the wilderness.

Being the first care-for-life facility, DELTA Rescue does not adopt out its rescued animals to the public. “I’d rather not be a hero, adopting out our animals & STEALING homes away from animals in the pound –
wonderful animals who will be killed only because they can’t find new homes”, says Leo Grillo.
Charity Navigator gives DELTA 1 star but Charity Watch gives it A-

PETA People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
PETA is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 3 million members & supporters. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most
intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, & in the entertainment industry. PETA works on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds, & other “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals.

PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, & protest campaigns. Before PETA existed, there were two important things you could do to help animals. Volunteer at a local animal shelter, or donate money to a humane society. While many of these organizations did useful work to bring comfort to animals who are used by humans, they didn’t question why we kill animals for their flesh or their skins or why we use them for tests of new product ingredients or for our entertainment.

PETA’s founders sought to give caring people something more that they could do & to provide them ways to actively change society. They wanted to promote a healthy vegan diet & show how easy it is to shop cruelty-free. They wanted to protest, loudly & publicly, against cruelty to animals in all its forms, & they wanted to expose what really went on behind the
very thick, soundproof walls of animal laboratories.

Aided by thorough investigative work, consumer protests, & international media coverage, PETA brings together members of the scientific, corporate, & legislative communities to achieve large-scale, long-term changes that improve animals’ quality of life & prevent their deaths.

Thanks to PETA’s lengthy campaign to push PETCO to take more responsibility for the animals in its stores, the company agreed to stop selling large birds & to make provisions for the millions of rats & mice in its care.
PETA has made groundbreaking advances for animals who are abused by corporations, governments, & individuals throughout the world, & these successes have led to dramatic improvements in the lives of millions of
individual animals.

Whether by working with universities & government institutions to implement non-animal test methods, sparking a boom of “cruelty-free” product marketing a nosedive for the U.S. fur industry, or promoting the mass availability of meat alternatives at grocery stores & gourmet restaurants, PETA has been the driving force behind many of the largest successes for animals in the last 25 years.
Charity Navigator gives PETA 2 out of 4 stars, GuideStar gives 3 out of 5 stars and BBB has no report on PETA.

BBBWGA Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance
The BBB Wise Giving Alliance helps donors make informed giving decisions & promotes high standards of conduct among organizations that solicit contributions from the public. It produces reports about national charities, evaluating them against comprehensive Standards for Charity Accountability, & publishes a magazine, the Wise Giving Guide, 3 times a year.
BBB WGA does not rank charities but rather seeks to assist donors in making informed judgments about those that solicit their support. Evaluations are done without charge to the charity & are posted for free public access on give.org.
BBB WGA reports on nationally soliciting charities that the public has most often asked about as well as charities that request to be evaluated. Give.org reports on about 1,300 nationally soliciting charities. In addition, about half of the 112 Better Business Bureaus in the US & Canada cumulatively produce reports on over 10,000 locally soliciting charities using the same BBB Charity Standards as BBB WGA.
National charities that are found to meet all BBB Charity Standards have the option of signing a license & paying a fee for the use of a BBB Accredited Charity Seal that can be displayed on their websites and in their fund raising materials.
BBB WGA lists 20 standards of asccountability.
GOVERNANCE AND OVERSIGHT ( 1-5)
The governing board has the ultimate oversight authority for any charitable organization. This section of the standard seeks to ensure that the volunteer board is active, independent and free of self-dealing.

MEASURING EFFECTIVENESS (6 & 7)
An organization should regularly assess its effectiveness in achieving its mission. This section seeks to ensure that an organization has defined, measurable goals & objectives in place & a defined process in place to evaluate the success & impact of its program(s) in fulfilling the goals & objectives of the organization and that also identifies ways to address any deficiencies.

FINANCES (8-14)
This section of the standards seeks to ensure that the charity spends its funds honestly, prudently & in accordance with statements made in fund raising appeals.

FUND RAISING & INFORMATIONAL MATERIALS (15-20)
A fund raising appeal is often the only contact a donor has with a charity & may be the sole impetus for giving. This section of the standards seeks to ensure that a charity's representations to the public are accurate, complete & respectful.

NSALA North Shore Animal League America
NSALA is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue & adoption organization. Our Vision: To put an end to animal cruelty & euthanasia & to create a world in which all companion animals find compassionate, permanent homes.
Our Values:1) Preserve & enhance the lives of shelter pets through rescue efforts that remove them from harm’s way. 2) Advance the highest standards in animal welfare to create a more humane world for companion animals. 3) Sustain our no-kill policy, working tirelessly to nurture & heal the physical & emotional wounds of animals in our care, to restore the high quality of life & dignity that they deserve. 4) Speak for rescue animals to elevate their status, increase acceptance, & reduce euthanasia. 5) Inspire the next generation to be more compassionate & to understand that adopting a shelter pet is the right choice. 6)Organize, inspire, & lead a global network or partners that share common goals & continue to provide them with resources & innovative techniques to save lives. 7) Nurture relationships that bond people with shelter pets
NSALA began shelter advertising 2 decades ago, encouraging adopting pets from a shelter close to home, instead of buying a pet from a pet store. The idea worked so well NSALA quickly developed a major grant program enabling other shelter & rescue groups to learn the effectiveness of adoption advertising. Today, shelters across the world use advertising to remind people that every type of pet is available at a shelter & adopting from a shelter is a responsible choice.
To generate added awareness to the plight of shelter animals,NSALA launched Pet Adoptathon. Today, over 2,000 shelters in the US, & in 26 other countries, join us for Pet Adoptathon with one common goal – to join forces & adopt over 20,000 animals into permanent homes over a single weekend. NSALA uses Mobile Adoption Units to bring dogs & cats out of the shelter & into high-traffic areas. These mobile adoption events save thousands of animals each year. NSALA sponsors Adopt-A-Pet.com, which enables over 8,000 shelters & rescue groups across the U.S. to post animals that are available for adoption. Adopt-A-Pet.com has linked millions of potential adopters with local shelters & their pets, facilitating a huge number of adoptions each year.
SPAY/USA,a national S/N referral program, provides public education about benefits of S/N & is the nation’s largest network for affordable S/N services. NSALA helps end the suffering of innocent dogs & cats by reducing the number of unwanted births. Within the past 12 months, SPAY/USA has provided over 50,000 S/N referrals, estimated to reduce pet overpopulation significantly.

AHA American Humane Association
Since 1877 the historic AHA has been at the forefront of every major advancement in protecting children, pets & farm animals from abuse & neglect. Delegates from 27 humane organizations from 10 states joined together in the first forum to combine their strength & unite their missions. The AHA immediately began to address one of its first tasks -- to put an end to the inhumane treatment of farm animals & the deplorable conditions in which they were kept. Today we’re also leading the way in understanding human-animal interaction & its role in society. As the nation’s voice for the protection of children & animals, AHA reaches millions of people every day through groundbreaking research, education, training & services that span a wide network of organizations, agencies & businesses.
AHA has been at the vanguard of virtually every major advance, policy movement, legislative campaign & cultural transformation aimed at protecting the most vulnerable among us. In doing so, we believe we’ve made the world a demonstrably better place – not only for children & animals, but for all of us who recognize that the strength of our society is rooted in acting every day to promote our core values of caring, compassion & hope.
WWI took a great toll on animal soldiers & human ones & we stepped up to made a difference. We established the Red Star Animal Emergency Services program, which still nearly a century later is an international model for helping animals in times of crisis. We continue to protect countless animals each year, whether from natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina & the Japanese earthquake & tsunami, or the human cruelty of dogfighting, horse abandonment, abuse & neglect. We work to safeguard animal actors through our renowned “No Animals Were Harmed” monitoring of more than 2,000 film & TV productions each year & we also safeguard the welfare of millions of farm animals each year through historic legislation to provide them with more humane conditions, & through rigorous, science-based auditing, monitoring & certification programs that help ensure the kind of compassionate treatment Americans are rightly demanding for all living creatures.
Throughout our history, AHA has been a solutions-based organization that relies on knowledge as well as kindness, science as well as sentiment, hard facts as well as the facts of the heart to provide enduring answers to society’s most pressing challenges. Our goal is to create healthier, more humane & compassionate communities where our children & our animals – the voiceless & the vulnerable – can thrive.
AHA is recognized by Independent Charities of America, Animal Charities of America, & Combined Federal Campaign Partners for Healthy Pets. AHA meets the BBB Wise Giving Alliance's 20 Standards for Charity Accountability, Charity Navigator gives 2 out of 4 stars, GuideStar 4 out of 5 stars, Charity Watch B+. Thanks very much for your support. Prayers 4 all in need. Voted. Dean

THHS Tree House Humane Society
THHS was founded in 1971, when a group of families in
the Chicago area united to form an organized network of animal welfare agents. The network grew rapidly, by 1975 the founders legally incorporated as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, & purchased the property at 1212 West Carmen Avenue. A national audience was developed
through educational brochures & pamphlets that helped to explain dog & cat behavior. THHS gained a reputation for offering valuable advice on animal healthcare, lost pets, & household dangers. In 1989, we expanded the physical structure of the facility, almost doubling the size of the shelter to continually accept & care for more stray cats. In 2000, we remodeled our attic to make a Socialization Room for feral cats, & we were also named First Place winners of the Humane Association Award offered by the Chicago Veterinary Medicine Association.

In 2007, we acquired a new building, which houses our new, state-of-the-art, high-volume, low-cost S/N Clinic. The new clinic opened in the Spring of 2009. In 2010, THHS performed nearly 4,000 S/N surgeries in the new Clinic, & we opened our Wellness Clinic on Mondays to provide necessary vaccinations & treatments for the pets of low-income families.

THHS is the largest cageless, no-kill shelter for
injured, sick & abandoned cats in the Chicago area. Since its founding THHS has found homes for more than 16,000 "residents." In addition to our focus on the rehabilitation & adoption of stray cats, we offer many other valuable programs & services, including our Free
S/N Program, Pet Loss Grief Support Group, Humane Investigations Team, Youth Volunteer Program, Animal-Assisted Therapy, Behavior Hotline, Pet Food Pantry, & Education Outreach Program.

THHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity, & all donations are fully tax-deductible. We do not accept any federal or state funding. Almost all of our support comes from concerned & involved individuals. Charity Navigator awards 3 out of 4 stars & GuideStar awards 5 out of 5 stars.

FOA Friends of Animals
From our beginnings, FOA has held a leadership role in
advocating for low-cost S/N. It is the most effective means of preventing unwanted births of domestic dogs & cats which then leads to their mass killings in shelters. For five decades, FOA has operated the only coast-to-coast cat & dog neutering initiative in the US. Our unique system, powered by a membership of more than 600 veterinarians located in 30 states & Puerto Rico, helps people avoid unnecessarily high costs of neutering for more than 40,000 animals each year.

We are a leading figure in the movement to end the exploitation of fur-bearing animals, as well. In 2012, FoA’s investigators produced the first footage of the shocking reality of life & death on a U.S. fur farm.
FOA is on forefront of putting animal-rights advocacy in its best light by encouraging activists to seek a style of activism that has positive effects & preserves the integrity of our most valuable ideals.

In 2013, we also established our own Wildlife Law Program in order to bridge the gap that occasionally forms between animal & environmental activists who fail to utilize laws that would benefit their causes. The
mission of the program is use the law for the singular purpose of ensuring the right of all wildlife to live in an ecosystem free from human manipulation, exploitation, or abuse.

We also inform members about animal advocacy issues & our progress by addressing these topics in our magazine, Act•ionLine, our Web site & other reports. We encourage our members to get involved in their own communities as volunteer activists & as representatives of our S/N project.

Charity Navigator awards FOA 3 out of 4 stars. GuideStar awards 5 out of 5 stars, Charity Watch gives an A and BBB Wise Giving says FOA meets the 20 standards for charity accountability.

GS GuideStar
Mission: To revolutionize philanthropy by providing information that advances transparency, enables users to make better decisions, & encourages charitable giving. GS gathers & disseminates information about every single IRS-registered nonprofit organization. We provide as much information as we can about each nonprofit's mission, legitimacy, impact, reputation, finances, programs, transparency, governance, & so much more. We do that so the public can take the information & make the best decisions possible. We encourage nonprofits to share information about their organizations openly & completely. We combine the information that nonprofits supply with data from several other sources. Search the GS site to find the nonprofit information you need-it's free!
Many people think that we are a charity evaluator or a watchdog. We aren't. Instead, we are a 501(c)(3) public charity that collects, organizes, & presents the information you want in an easy-to-understand format while remaining neutral. Providing nonprofit information to a broad audience at no cost to those users is an important part of our public service, one that we pledge to continue.
Why are we so passionate about nonprofit information? Because the nonprofit sector is incredibly powerful. According to the Center for Civil Society Studies, more than 70 million people work & volunteer in the nonprofit sector. Nonprofit employees make up the third-largest workforce among U.S. industries, behind only retail & manufacturing, & nonprofits create total revenue of more than 1.9 trillion annually, exceeding the total GDP of Canada, Australia, Russia, or India. But nonprofits are so much more than these statistics.
We know that the best possible decisions are made when donors, funders, researchers, educators, professional service providers, governing agencies, & the media use the quality information that we provide. Those decisions affect our world today & will continue to affect it for generations to come. We are the search engine for nonprofit information.
GS's operations include data digitization, database management & development, nonprofit services, web site operations & research. GS also serves to verify that a recipient organization is established & that donated funds go where the donor intended for individuals looking to give in the wake of disasters or during the holiday season. GS is the world's largest source of information on nonprofit organizations.
We envision a nonprofit sector strong enough to tackle the great challenges of our time. GS's Nonprofit Profiles provide you with the information you need to make smart decisions, build connections, and learn from each other to achieve your missions.

NAVS National Anti-Vivisection Society
Founded in 1929, NAVS is an educational organization whose ultimate goal is the elimination of animal use in product testing, education & biomedical research. For more than 80 years, NAVS has sought to identify the cruelty & waste of vivisection & to convince the general public to work actively for its ultimate abolition. NAVS strives to educate researchers, physicians, teachers,
manufacturers, & government leaders in the discovery of new, humane methods that will save millions of animals each year & still give our children a safer, healthier & happier future. Driven by our mission statement, our efforts are focused in the following areas: Public Awareness, Student/Teacher Outreach, Legal/Legislative Issues, Science Programs, & Special Initiatives/Cooperative Efforts.

Vivisection is the practice of cutting into or using invasive techniques on live animals or dissecting the bodies of animals. Anti-vivisectionists are people who oppose these practices for ethical & scientific reasons.
Anti-vivisectionists oppose animal experimentation for many reasons. First, we believe that it is inhumane to confine animals in an artificial environment, which deprives them of experiencing the ecological niche
nature intended for them. These animals may be subjected to extreme pain, deprivation & distress, & their lives of agony often end in a premature & horrible death. Equally important, however, is the undeniable fact that
as a scientific methodology, animal experimentation is often invalid & misleading.

Years of research have shown that imposing disease symptoms in an animal during an artificially controlled laboratory experiment cannot adequately predict or duplicate human disease. Basic physiological,
metabolic & chemical differences among human & nonhuman animals often produce conflicting results. Animal experiments also waste money & resources. The U.S.
government spends billions of dollars a year on animal research, studies show that medical intervention has contributed little to the longer, healthier lives Americans now enjoy. Such wasteful practices often
sidetrack meaningful scientific progress, which can help more people.

Animals are used as tools for research & education in product testing laboratories, medical facilities & classrooms all over the country. Despite the intent of the National Laboratory Animal Welfare Act of 1966,
these animals are often kept in substandard conditions.
Countless living creatures suffer & die each year to determine the safety of consumer products, to seek treatments & cures for human illness, & in an attempt to teach students about human biology.

Charity Navigator awards NAVS 3 out of 4 stars, GuideStar awards 5 stars, & BBB Wise Giving states NAVS meets the 20 standards for charity accountability.

NHES National Humane Education Society
In response to our Nation’s constant killing of stray &
abandoned companion animals, Mrs. Anna C. Briggs founded NHES in 1948 as a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization with a central mission “to foster a
sentiment of kindness to animals in children & adults…” This mission stemmed from Mrs. Briggs’ philosophical belief system that “Animals have intrinsic value in & of themselves are deserving of our protection.” NHES, located near Charles Town, WV, provides humane education, rescue & relief assistance for animals,
& screened adoption services. Through the Humane Education & Advocacy Department, they provide educational presentations to all ages & information
services to members as well as to the general public. NHES is able to provide these services solely through private donations.

MISSION & GUIDING PRINCIPLES:“Whenever we, as a society, allow an animal to die from starvation or abuse, or whenever a euthanizing agent enters the bloodstream of a healthy animal, we wound humanity.”

In 1963, Alice Morgan Wright, NHES board member & benefactress, wrote 12 Guiding Principles to serve as a simple blueprint for the creation of a more humane world:
*To oppose cruelty in all its forms.
*To strive for an end to bullfighting, rodeo & all cruel sports whenever performed & wherever represented as art or as entertainment.
*To strive to abolish cruel trapping.
*To discourage hunting, especially as a sport.
*To oppose all poisoning of wildlife.
*To protect & conserve wildlife for its own sake & not as a resource for Man’s exploitation.
*To aid or initiate programs for slaughter reform.
*To teach humane handling & care of work animals & food animals.
*To advance programs in the humane sterilization of cats & dogs in order to reduce their overpopulation.
*To provide for the rescue, housing & feeding of lost, stray or abandoned animals until suitable homes are found.
*To urge that when it is necessary to put any tame animal to death, unless some better method of euthanasia is available, it be so arranged that the animal be held in the arms of some human friend while it is being given a painless preliminary anesthetic, to be stroked & comforted with reassuring words until it loses consciousness after which the lethal agent should be quickly administered.
*To recognize in animals their capacity for friendship & their need for friends. To Befriend all Earth’s creatures of the land, the sea & the air—to defend them against ravages by mankind, & to inspire in human
beings compassion for all.
Now, more than 60 years after its founding, without financial assistance from local, state, or federal governments, NHES continues to grow & to decrease animal suffering through its humane education & advocacy &
animal care programs.
Charity Navigator awards NHES 3 out of 4 stars & GuideStar awards 4 out of 5 stars.

GG GreaterGood.org & ARS
The GG network of websites started with one simple idea: take one action everyone does daily–a click on a website–& turn it into a force for good. The Hunger Site was the first to launch in 1999. Sponsors paid to have their ads viewed on The Hunger Site’s thank-you page; each click would be recorded & generate sponsor funds, & those funds went directly to charity to provide food for people in need. In the first 9 months, the site funded more than 9 million lbs of food for the hungry.

The individual sites at GG are tailored to address specific causes by raising awareness while providing tangible solutions. Through partnerships with a variety of dedicated organizations, your clicks translate into valuable resources. The 9 sites include: Hunger,
Breast Cancer, Animal Rescue, Veterans, Autism,
Alzheimer's, Diabetes, Literacy, & Rainforest.
CHARITABLE PARTNERS for the Animal Rescue Site:
1)GreaterGood.org 2)Rescue Bank 3)The Fund for
Animals 4)IFAW & 5)Pets for Vets

One of the biggest expenses for shelters & rescue groups is feeding the animals in their care. By providing them with free, healthy meals, GG makes it possible for shelters to focus their energy & limited resources on other important needs — like saving more animals.
GG will make sure that millions of shelter pets across the US receive healthy meals. With the help of our partners, we will transport nutritious, high quality pet food to shelters & rescue groups nationwide, where it will help animals in need. The best part? Animals that
are healthy, happy, & well-fed stand a much better chance of being adopted.

GG is committed to making the world a better place by
protecting the health & well-being of people, pets, & our planet. We've granted over $30,000,000 to causes that support our mission. 100% of your donation will go to the program you click on through GG. GG stores do not receive any profit from donations & we even pay the credit card transaction fee, so every cent of your donation goes to charity.

Your donation is 100% tax-deductible in the U.S.A.
You will receive a receipt from GG for your taxes.

Incredible items you can purchase at the Animal Rescue Site: Paw Print, Clothing, Jewelry, Footwear, Totes, Purses, & Bags, Pet Supplies, Flea & Tick, Kitchen, Garden, Home Decor, Car Accessories, Personalized Products & many more! OR you may just elect to Feed Shelter Animals: 20 meals for $1, 100 meals for $5, 200 meals for $10, 500 meals for $25, & 1000 meals for $50.

Since GG is not listed as a non profit organization with 501.c3 status, it has no rating with any of the charity watchdog groups. Having visited & shopped at the ARS for years, I give it a A++ rating! GG sites also will send you a daily e-mail to remind you to click daily.

BFAS Best Friends Animal Society
For over 30 years, BFAS has been running the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals & building effective programs all across the country that reduce the number of animals entering shelters. Their mission is to end the killing in America's animal shelters & create a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. This is done by building community programs & partnerships all across the nation. BFAS believe that by working together we can Save Them All.

Mission:To bring about a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. Vision: A better world through kindness to animals. Guiding principles: Golden Rule: To treat all living things as we ourselves would wish to be treated. Kindness: To demonstrate compassion & respect for all living creatures. Positive influence: To judge our effectiveness by the extent to which animal lives are saved & improved, & by the positive experience of the people we touch. Leadership: To lead by example, developing, promoting & sharing great new ideas & programs to help animals. Authenticity: To do what we say we do.

BFAS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization & animal welfare society. At the core of BFAS' work is the dream that one day animals will no longer be killed in America's shelters. By implementing S/N & TNR programs to reduce the number of animals who enter shelters, & increasing the number of people who adopt pets, we know we can end the killing. We know we can Save Them All. The heart of BFAS is the Sanctuary, where, at any given time, about 1,700 animals are turning their lives around, receiving the medical help they need, & getting love & acceptance to help them overcome their past. While searching for their forever homes, they live in a scenic, healing environment among human & animal friends. BFAS owns nearly 3,700 acres, & lease another 17,000 acres of state & federal land. Nearly 30,000 people visit every year to meet the animals & tour what has become the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals.

Cat initiatives: Cats comprise the majority of animals dying in shelters - up to 70 % in some places. Most of these are community cats (stray & free-roaming). BFAS is working to save lives by implementing innovative TNR programs across the country.

Charity Navigator gives BFAS 3 out of 4 stars, Charity Watch gives it a B+, GuideStar awards 5 stars and BBB Wise Giving says BFAS meets 18 of the 20 standards for charity accountability.

The ASPCA
ASPCA was the first humane society to be established in North America & is, today, one of the largest in the world. ASPCA was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866 on the belief that animals are entitled to kind & respectful treatment at the hands of humans, & must be protected under the law. Headquartered in NYC, the ASPCA maintains a strong local presence, & with programs that extend their anti-cruelty mission across the country, ASPCA is recognized as a national animal welfare organization. It is a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, & proud to boast more than 1 million supporters across the country.

As the first humane organization to be granted legal authority to investigate & make arrests for crimes against animals, ASPCA is wholly dedicated to fulfilling the mission through nonviolent approaches. ASPCA provides local & national leadership in three key areas: caring for pet parents & pets, providing positive outcomes for at-risk animals & serving victims of animal cruelty.
Incorporated in 1866 by a special act of the NY State legislature, the ASPCA has a history rich in challenges & victories—from providing care & protection for the city's working horses & transforming dog pounds into professionally run adoptions facilities to founding an animal hospital that is still running today.
The ASPCA's mission is "to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++- +
Today, the ASPCA is the nation’s second-largest animal welfare grant maker, providing support to U.S.-based nonprofit animal welfare organizations through cash grants, sponsorships, executive & technical assistance, & training. Since 2013, the ASPCA has given over $35 million in grants to nearly 1,600 animal shelters, municipal & governmental agencies, rescue groups, sanctuaries, & other animal welfare organizations nationwide. Organizations in all 50 states & U.S. territories have received funding & are eligible to apply.
Grants are available for a wide range of activities that further the ASPCA’s mission. These include:
Animal Shelter & Rescue Grants, Anti-Cruelty Grants, Equine Grants, & Emergency & Disaster Response Grants.

Most people are aware of & have seen Sarah McLachlan appearing in advertisements for the ASPCA. She filmed a two-minute advertisement for the organization which featured her song "Angel". The advertisement's imagery of shelter animals mixed with the soundtrack & McLachlan's simple appeal for donations has raised $30 million for the ASPCA since it began to air in 2006.

ASPCA earns 3 out of 4 stars from Charity Navigator, 4 out of 5 stars from GuideStar & meets 20 standards for charity accountability, no rating from Charity Watch.

CW Charity Watch
CW, founded more than 20 years ago, is America's most independent, assertive charity watchdog. CW does not merely repeat what a charity reports using simplistic or automated formulas. CW dives deep to let you know how efficiently a charity will use your donation to fund the programs you want to support. It exposes nonprofit abuses & advocates for your interests as a donor. The mission of CW, a nonprofit charity watchdog & information service, is to maximize the effectiveness of every dollar contributed to charity by providing donors with the information they need to make more informed giving decisions.
Goals:To research & evaluate the efficiency, accountability & governance of nonprofit organizations; to educate the public about the importance of wise giving; to inform the public of wasteful or unethical practices of nonprofits & provide recognition to highly effective & ethical charities; to advise CW members & conduct special investigations & evaluations of nonprofits; to expand & re-define our programs periodically to meet the continuing challenge of keeping the contributor informed.
CW analysts perform in-depth evaluations of complex charity financial reporting, including audited financial statements, tax forms, annual reports, state filings, & other documents. Once CW's analysis of a charity is complete, CW performs two end calculations for Program % & Cost to Raise $100. CW averages the two results on our scale then assign the charity a final letter grade efficiency rating ranging from A+ to F.
1)Program % reflects the percent of total expenses a charity spent on its programs in the year analyzed.
2)Cost to Raise $100 reflects how much it cost the charity to raise each $100 of cash donations from the public in the year analyzed.

Program % Cost to Raise $100 Efficiency Rating
90-100% $0 - 4 A+
80 - 89% $5 - 11 A
75 - 79% $12 - 15 A-
72 - 74% $16 - 19 B+
68 - 71% $20 - 26 B
65 - 67% $27 - 30 B-
61 - 64% $31 - 33 C+
56 - 60% $34 - 37 C
50 - 55% $38 - 40 C-
36 - 49% $41 - 59 D
0 - 35% $60 - 100 F

A range = Excellent, B range = Good, C range = Satisfactory / Average, D = Unsatisfactory / Poor, F = Failing, ? = Insufficient Information

In CW's view, a program percentage of 60% or greater, and a Cost to Raise $100 of $35 or less, are the minimum efficiency standards reasonable for most charities. Ratios in this range typically indicate a"satisfactory" or "C range" rating .
CW is a 501(c)3 public charity. Donations are tax-deductible as permitted by law. A membership contribution of $50 or more gives you one year of online access to all of nearly 600 A+ to F charity ratings. I did not pay $50 so this is why not every group I have reviewed has a grade from CW.
Thanks very much for your support. Prayers 4 all in need. Voted. Peace & love. Dean
