How We Met

Originally he came from a local shelter and he belonged to a neighbor 3 houses down from us. Long story short, they moved out, all the neighbors said our good-byes as we all usually had cook outs together. A day later the neighbor right next to the Brightons house heard meowing and meowing. She looked and looked all around. Finally she looked in the window ad saw that our neighbors that we liked so much just up and left poor little Brighton. One of the neighbors called them and mentioned about Brighton being left behind and the not so nice neighbor said-Oh yea, we had no room in our new house so we left him. OMG! We are glad he is ours. Hes a LOVER!

hello brighton CASTLE LIBRARY MEWS DAY 2
K. sammy puts aside his crown…and rolls up his sleeves…whoa…my head is spinning with all the wonderful ideas and suggestions...I am taking all suggestions seriously. It may be best to have the library inside the castle...the structure is basically already there. mike says books may become too damp and rot if outside…and we sure don’t want that! We will add many windows and skylights to bring in lots of sunshine. Pete will be in charge of having the Angels build a playground for the young ones out by the Feline Studies Center and reminds me there are 2 other libraies in the castle, on the 3rd floor by the Royal Office and in the underground caves holding all the historical documents. Our library will be for browsing and enjoying a nice quiet, fun day. Lady dolly and mimi, don’t worry, you’ll be able to see the beautiful Koi pond. There will be a sign inside the Great Hall giving directions to all libraries. More suggestions for naming our library needed. As you enter the Great Hall, the library will be on Left. A closet will hold our coats and boots. There will be an annex leading into the library. sassy thinks there should be cat statues there…now what kind of cat statues? Of all the cats Leo will describe this month. or of our Angel friends? Or, should the annex hold something else? The annex will have full length windows letting the sun shine through all day long…looking out onto the beautiful castle gardens. At night, we can close the kitty proof drapes to keep the warmth of the sun inside...hey...who left the door open…quick, Josie and mallow, I see a mouse already! Wow…..this is gonna be harder than I thought! I’ve left you with some things to ponder..Remember…this is YOUR library!

Thank you for some great book reviews. Here are a couple more that I found…

Kittens 1st Fulll Moon by Kevin Henkes - When Kitten mistakes the full moon for a bowl of milk, she ends up tired, wet, and hungry trying to reach it.

Bachchelor's Cat A Love Story by L.E. Hoffman

When a somewhat introverted and self-serving bachelor artist finds a stray kitten at his doorstep, he decides to take her in to see if he can, indeed, sustain a lasting and loving relationship with another living creature. His on-again, off-again romance with a shallow girlfriend has left him emotionally cynical, and in no time the cat becomes the central focus of his life. Through her, the man rediscovers the meaning of loyalty and affection.

Out one evening at his neighborhood bar, the man strikes up conversation with a woman. She's not his usual type but after several minutes they are caught up in a kind of exciting conversation he never experienced before. As their relationship unfolds and blossoms in new and rewarding ways, it is his trusty cat who illuminates the right path

hello brighton LIBRARY CATS DAY 30
Today..let’s head to Seymour library in Auburn, New York.

Meet DEWEY

Dewey , now 10, came to the library after being born in a prison. .the previous library cat, Paige, now lives with a staff member.
He lives in the office during business hours and checks out the boxes of new books and dozes by the window.
In the mornings, he greets the staff and wanders up and down the libraries 3 floors. He patrols the library on nights and weekends.
He loves it when the UPS man comes with new boxes and spends time on the secretary’s desk watching the monitor screen of her computer. Occasionally, he will slip our. Once, a little girl was heard saying…”kitty..kitty”. dewey was found in the stacks where the pet books were shelved.

Now..we’ll head to Brooklyn, New York, where we will go to Spoonbill and Sugartown Booksellers.

Meet HAZE AND RANIER

They have been at the bookseller’s store for 13 or 14 years.
Rainer developed a tumor in his front left leg about 5 years ago and it hadto be amputated. The vet also said some of the tumor could't be removed and was only given 6 years to live..as you can see..he’s still there.
Generally, they don’t mind the dogs that come in to visit..but you should see the ferocity with which these sudeen electrified hairballs expel the poor, unsuspecting beast. Certain unnamed culprits among the staff are guilty of over-feeding them. Because these culprits are put upon with intense lobbying, especially from haze, they often enjoy 6-8 cans of Fancy Feast every day.

We leave New York, and head to Woodstock Books, in Shiretown, Vermont. Mr. B. , named for a character in the Harry Potter books, enjoys attention from all patrons and inspects all shopping bags.

Annie, a Russian Blue, who lives at Books & Co. in Lexington, Va. is 8 years old and was found at a farmer’s market Annie reads at night and helps recommend books to customers during the day. She enlists anyone with thumbs to retrieve treats from the temptation bag and helps make toys and game selections to keep revenues up in order to buy those treats.

We all continue to pray for all those affected by hurricane Isaac’s rath.. Be safe, everyone!! sammy

ps..hehe..i jumped that ol' fence this morning (mom THOUGHT she had catproofed it)..good thing mom found me. it sure wouldn't be any fun to have a mia King..hehe..

hello brighton LIBRARY CATS DAY 29
We are praying for all those affected by hurricane Isaac. Much flooding and loss of electricity to many. A scary situation with rain and threats of tornado’s. We all pray everyone stays safe and there is no loss of life.

I want to mention the old Lexingrton/Concord Bridge in Concord, MA. The place where the “shot heard around the world” was coined. Concord, Ma is the place of the 2nd. Battle of America’s Revolutionary War.

Alright now..here we are in the great state of New York. We’ll visit several library cats here…some of you may want to go home to freshen up..getting ready to spend a couple of days here.

First..we’ll visit the King Memorial library in Machias, New York. The library is located in the basement of the town hall and was established in 1951. Thei mission statement is to strive to be an essential source, providing information for the community through books, video’s and programming.and to act as a door to learning for the pre-schoolres and a resource for their parents through programming and materials.

Meet MAGGIE and her son MOSES

Maggie, a stray, was found 5 years ago by their other library cat, Willa, hanging around a snack bar. After checking with several board members, it was decided to adopt her. Maggie was also pregnant. She gave birth to 3 boys. One was adopted by the library director, one by a friend of the director’s and it was decided the last, named Moses, would stay here with his mother.
They get wonderful care and regular check-ups and vaccinations. When the library closes at night, they are locked up in the office with plenty of food and drink. When the library is opened..they have the run of the library and are not allowed out.
They don’t really have any favorite toys..but they do have favorite humans. The patrons love to come to the library to pet and talk to Maggie and Moses. One woman comes in regularly and brings them grass from her yard, saying it is the best. They will do tricks and follow her all over the library.
The kids have teased Moses, so he hides from them, but Moses is easy going and easy to get along with. When he has had enough touching, he lets you know..sometimes he has scratched those who didn’t listen the first time.
Maggie and Moses like attention, like to be combed and love having their picture taken.
There is a donation box on the desk and the library makes things to help support them. The library director has written a short story about them and has made calendars featuring them and note cards, too.
They are both loved very much!

There are several museums nearby and historic attractions..and even parks for us to rest our weary heads tonight. or, again, there are several inns and hotels available. Some of you could probably tell me where the best places to go are.. sammy

Come visit me, Princess's maia & lia, K Sammy ♥ Pandy & Princess jo jo.

hello brighton LIBRARY CATS DAY 28
Another day, our travels are almost at the end…I hope you all are enjoying the travels and reading some good books..
Today, I want to mention the library cat from the Everett Free library in Everett, Pennsylvania.
They have been serving the community for 75 years.

Meet PUDDLES

Puddles just wandered in and took up residence. Taking in a stray cat goes along with the library mission to the community.
Having a cat around puts everyone in a good mood and it fosters interest in the library.
Puddles is now deceased.

I have been told there is a library cat, named Libby, who resides at the Eva K. Bowlby library in Waynesburg, va. I do not have any further information on her.

On the way up through Connecticut, we’ll mention another library cat at the Hall Memorial library in Ellington, Connecticut.
It is located at the head of the town green and is an important source for education and recreation for all the town’s citizens. The library provides free access to a variety of materials and programs.

Meet BOB

Bob was found hanging around the library. They made him a house at the rear of the library and put in a bed for him to sleep. He spent a lot of time wandering around and loved being petted by the patrons.

Let’s travel on to exit’s home state, North Carolina. They report thy have a “Bird’s Unlimited” store in Winston-Salem that has 2 kitties that live there full time and help customers select the right cat platform and bird feeders.

We’re all gonna hang out with exit and his fur sibs today…his mom is a gracious hostess and has provided us with lots of beds and treats…and, if we’re lucky, exit’s mom will be home and will be able to give us a tour of her garden and the surrounding woods.. And, maybe we can all have an “impromtu” party…hehe….sammy

Our prayers to all who are ill/injured and to all those who may be affected by hurrivane isacc.. Be safe, everyone.

We’re keeping everyone in Isaac’s path in our prayers. Be safe.. If you neeed to be home with your pawrents, we’ll all understand.

We are going to stop at Prospero‘s Books., located in in Old Town, Manassas, Virginia. Prospero’s Books has a large inventory of fiction/non-fiction books. The store occupies the historic 100 year old Hibbs and Giddings building. Bart’s pawrents actually me our bookstore cat this past week..how pawsome is that!

Meet. PRINGLES

Pringles is friendly to all and is featured in the store’s advertisement. He is almost 18 years young…and has beautiful golden eyes and loves to meet and greet customers.. He sits on a wooden chair and grooms himself inbetween so he can make a good impression on all who come in to his bookstore.

Now, we will travel to the Chesterfield county public library in Chesterfield, Virginia . the staff is committed to providing you with an excellent and friendly library experience.

Meet NYX

Nyx is the Collection Management library cat. They are currently working out of an old high school while the new facilities are under construction.

Nyx became a library cat in 2008 when she was several months old. She was born without eyes and was adopted from the humane society. Like a bat, she gets around by “echo-location”. she makes sounds and calculates the distance of how far the sounds travel.
She loves to ride on library carts and has lots of toys, her favorite is anything with feathers and furry mice. She attends story times and has attended an ALA conference where she met mystery writers and publishers and attended an author tea.
She likes helping her service person with computer work by changing the screen display, turning spell-check on in French and helps to type memo’s and documents. She works behind the scenes but is available to be met and greeted by appointment and is very chatty.
Fearless, she always walks with her tail in the airwhich was broken before she was adopted.

Chesterfield, Va. Has many attractions to offer everyone. It‘s a virtual treasure trove of history and attractions. The city of Hernicus, founded in 1611, is the 2nd oldest English speaking settlement in the “New World“. Chesterfield county is home to the 1st hospital, the 1st production of tobacco, the 1st chartered college and much more.

I know you will find lots to do here and in surrounding areas..many hotels, fine dining, hotels and attractions..the zoo, aquarium, golfing, tours of old plantation homes, a short track NASCAR speedway and just touring the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains..and much more... Have a wonderful day…sammy

Meet PRECIOUS - the cat who survived 9/11

During a crisis, the average human may discover they possess undreamed of reserves of heroism and grit. Such was the case of many new Yorker on September 11, 2001.
And, such was especially the case for a pampered 9 pound Persian cat, named Precious.
Precious’ owners were out of town on that fateful day. Precious was alone in their apartment, located directly across the street from the Twin Towers, when the buildings collapsed.
The shock shattered every window, first spraying the interior with glass and metal shrapnel and then filling it with a cloud of dust.
But, things got worse. The 114 liberty street building was so heavily damaged that it’s tenants weren’t allowed to return. That meant Precious had to survive on her own, a tall order for an 8 year old feline who had never been outside .
Yet, 18 days later, an animal rescue team found found her on the building’s roof..still alive.
Her survival proved that New Yorkers are tough, even the ones who don’t get out much.

Now..isn’t that an AMAZING tale? sammy

Ps..mom is home and wants to thank each and every one of your for your kind words and prayers for our g’pa..thanks to all of you and his new medications, he is feeling much better..

hello brighton LIBRARY CATS DAY 23
Today is a short road trip. we’ll head on over to the Lafayette County and Oxford Public Library in Oxford, Mississippi.

Meet SCOUT AND ATTICUS

Both were playmates at a local shelter. they live in the staff areas and have a favorite wing-back chair to sun themselves. Patrons and children ask to see them and pet them. They are gentle with children and love to strut around them.
SCOUT is more adventuresome and is more selective who she rubs up against. ATTICUS is loving, gentle and loves to be picked up. At night, they have the run of the library. They have their own toys but love the puppets that can be checked out and love to listen to music. They drag sections of newspapers around, too. Patrons pay for their food, toys and v-e-t care.

There is a cat, JUDY MOODY, that I want to mention. She used to reside at the De Soto Trail Regional library in Carmilla, Georgia.
Judy was loved by all patrons. The staff was there to serve HER..sound familiar? Hehe
She would sit on new displays and loved to be the center of attention. Little things did not bother her. She was great for staff stresses.
The elderly would come in to rock her.
A woman from the cencus bureau came in one day and complained about possible allergies. Judy had to leave and went to live with her caregiver, but died 3 weeks later..of a broken heart?
After judy was gone..the staff would find snakes in the library. they all felt they had lost more than just a cat.

i am hearing a common theme here..are you?

I know you have all been purchasing books right and left and your book-bags are getting a little weighted down. So..a UPS truck will meet us outside the library and they have all differing sizes of boxes in which we can send our books home. then you will have an empty bag to buy more books and a box to play in when you get home..hehe
We’ll just hang out around the town..there are lots of gift shops and clothing stores and a number of fine restaurants and hotels we can stay in..see you all tomorrow…sammy

ps..thanx for coming by..have a great evening!

Come visit me, Princess's maia & lia, K Sammy ♥ Pandy & Princess jo jo.

hello brighton LIBRARY CATS DAY 19
A moment of silence to honor Aunt Samantha Knight. our prayers are with mom lillian and dad, ron.

Some of you have wondered why bridges are covered. Well..to put it simply…wooden bridges with exposed superstructures are vulnerable to rot..so it was a way of preserving the bridge..besides..it is very romantic..

Today, we will meet another cat with amazing skills…those of a fearless investigator.

Meet SNOWBALL- the cat who caught a killer

In 1994, a man thought he had gotton away with murder. And, he may have, if it hadn’t been for the case making evidence furnished by a cat, snowball.
The Canadian authories found a woman who had been buried in a shallow grave. The Canadian royal mounted police were called in. they paid particular attention to a blood soaked leather jacket that was with the body, but alas, the dna matched the victim only. However, they also found something else very interesting..27 stransd of white hair that was discovered belonged to a cat.
The Mounties recalled that the the victim’s common law husband lived with her parents, who, it just happened, had a cat.
A blood sample of the cat was obtained so dna testing could be performed that would like the cat to the hair that was found on the victim. However, there was a problem. No one had ever done such a thing as this, and after many phone calls, they came in contact with the researchers at the National Cancer Institute in Maryland, who were working on developing a map of the feline genome.
The researchers were able to quickly isolate the geneetic code in the jacket hairs and match it to the hairs from snowball.
Using this knowledge…the man was quickly arrested and sent to prison.
Afterwards, the U.S Department of Justice awarded a huge grant to create a National Feline Genetic Database to help forensic labs around the world trace cat hair found at crime scenes.
Thanks to snowball, criminals can now be bested by their own furry friends.

we are relieved to hear that sylvester has returned home. our hearts are gladdened...sammy

hello brighton LIBRARY CATS DAY 18
Hehe..I still have sticky fingers from those s’mores..but they sure wer good…thanks, pete, for bringing the Hershey bars. good thing we don’t drive cars..hehe..lady dolly told us the story about how the covered bridge became haunted. Seems there was a man who would drop his daughter off to go swimming there.and when he would pick her up, he would stop in the middle of the bridge and honk 3 times..one day, the little girl drowned..so now if you stop on the bridge and honk 3 times..her ghost will appear..anyone brave enough to try it? Hehe..hope no one stole your battery powered nightlight, steve..I think we all needed a little light last night after all those ghost stories. I hope you all had a nice comfy night’s sleep..duid anyone need the duct rtape? Miss millie…I hope you had a restful night at that inn, too. Good thing zaboo brought the hot dogs, too or else we would have all starved and that wouldn’t do at all! Yikes, mike..I thought lady dolly was gonna squeeze all the air out of ya during the ghost stories..hehe..good thing we didn’t have to send out a search party for you, leo and quincy..
This has been a busy week. We’re all going to hang out here for the weekend..It’s time to stop and relax and have a little bit of fun and good food..our chef is setting up a nice meal today…so..enjoy taking a hike, riding bikes, meowsing with each other, reading, taking naps.. Maybe we can all take a tour of the other covered bridges in the area…pete and his royal pilots are available to take you wherever you want to go this weekend..so stop and talk to him..
So, just sit back and relax while I tell you about a cat who changed civilization…

Meet TOMMY -The cat who could use a phone

The news is usually filled with stories of dogs who help their stricken owners but few canines have ever displayed the devotion, let alone the cognitive skills shown by tommy.
One day in January, 2006, tommy’s chronically ill owner, fell out of his wheelchair and couldn’t get up and couldn’t call for help.
Someone from his home called 911. Whe nthe dispatchers answered..no one was there and then the call was disconnected. The number was redialed by the dispatchers and when no one answered, the police were notified.
The police who came to the home found the incapacitated owner lying on the floor. Sitting by the phone in the living room was his orange and tan tommy. No one else was there.
Later, tommy’s owner stated he had tried to teach tommy how to hit the 911 button but didn’t think tommy had learned the lesson. The owner stated, “he’s my hero”.

So..whoever said you can’t teach an old cat new tricks? Hehe….sammy

hello brighton LIBRARY CATS DAY 17
LIBRARY CATS DAY 17
maybe browser will write about us in next month's daily newsletter. wouldn't that be pawsome?
Today, we’ll move on to the Litchfield Public Library in Litchfield, Illinois. The library is located in the original 1904 Carnegie building. Their mission is to serve the informational, cultural, educational and recreational needs of the community.

Meet STACKS

Stacks , a beautiful black feline, was rescued from an “Adopt-A-Pet” shelter. She came to the library in 2009 and has since become the “Queen” of the library. She takes her job very seriously. She loves to lay on the computer desk. And loves to be petted. If you are sitting at “her” computer, don’t be surprised if she curls up in your lap. She loves to lay on the circulation desk..right next to her donation jar for those “queenly” needs of treats and toys.
She has her very own scrapbook that tells of her days as a library cat.
She is famous! She was featured in the February, 2010 issue of Cat Fancy where she was 1 of 45 featured library cats.

Ok now..let’s be on our best behavior. We’re traveling to the South Putnam high school in Putnam, Indiana.

Meet LIBBY

Libby was rescued as a small kitten. She would come to school every day with her care-giver. Every morning, she would walk to the bookshelves to check everything out. She would greet the children as they came down the hall and learned how to shake hands and wave her paws.
She enriched everyone’s lives and inspired others to become active with helping animal shelters. She helped start up a school club that helped to develop fostering love and respect for all ferals.
Sadly, Libby disappeared one day.

For tonight, we’ll travel to the Edna Collins covered bridge…famous because it is purported to be haunted…oooohhhhh..hehe.
We’ll set up tents..and, yes..everyone has an inflatable mattress..and a roll of duct tape will be included..just in case anyone’s claws get in the way..we’ll have dinner over a campfire..and then sit around the campfire, telling ghost stories..sweethearts can take a leisurely stroll through history..but I want everyone back in plenty of time to get a good night’s sleep.. hello brighton LIBRARY CATS DAY 16
before we start out on our adventures today, my family wants to share this little "thank you" to all of you who have stood by all of us during this sad time for our mom. your kind words, thoughts and prayers have comforted her...and no words can truly express all the love in her heart for all of you but we want you to know that her heart is full and will always remember the kindness you have all shown us..

God sends blessings,
such as people like you.
we really appreciate
all that you do.

May God bless you
with all his love and care.
We want to Thank You,
for always being there.

I hope everyone is having a good time..meowsing about the new friends they have met and reading the wonderful books they have picked up…I hope you have all been enjoying the accomodations, too…
Today..we’ll travel to the Pine River Public Library in Minnesota, a branch library of the Kitchigami Regional Library system.
The KRL system prides itself in offering the freedom to read, learn and discover, and to provide access to information as fundamental to an informed population and encourages innovation and creativity.

Meet BROWSER

Browser came to the library in 2002. He was a stray, about 9 months old. A staff member started feeding him tuna and he just kept coming back. He would sit at the back door every day waiting for his breakfast. When the library moved to it’s present location in 2002, browser went with them.
On his first vet visit, he tested positive for feline leukemia but tested negative on his 2nd visit.. He gets free health care from the local vet and patrons donate towards his care .
Browser has been featured on the local PBS stations and writes a monthly blog column for the local paper.
He loves to be petted and scratched and is loved by all. He loves to eat grasshoppers and loves to chase anything that moves. He loves to sit with the children during story time and loves to have someone open the door for him. He only speaks when he has something to say and will let you know when he has had enough attention. He even has a doggie friend, named Beau, but doesn’t like it when he runs up on him and scares him..

Hi Brighton!
Oh yes, I am loving my time in castle. So many fine kitties!
King gets no respect! Mama came right into throne room and kidnapped me this morning! SO I am sending you the newsletter from v-e-t. Oh, I am fine. But did injure a paw climbing Mt Cheesemore. I am getting antibiotic shot and full checkup. All I can say is I’d better be back on throne by tonight!
You may notice some singing. Trixie ahs brought me a pet bird, Ptitsa, who she discovered on her Milk River exploration. She looks like a cheddar wedge with wings! Until the aviary and seed garden are finished,s he is living in a silver cage by my throne and eating from a golden dish. You may visit her, and help her learn to meow, but please do not nom her! She is my friend.
Trixie also met some of the local wildcats, who told her of roving cheese bandits. From their description, Trixie believes they resemble Cocker Spaniels. They are said to be harmless, but we have taken the precaution of adding Baby to our security force, as a lookout. Kiska and Kara eill be taking a delegation of ferals and semi-wild kitties to meet the wildcats and work out how we can all live peacefully together. Purrhaps some of you have doggie siblings who can speak with the spaniels?
Several kitties have joined the Cheesemore climb – Gracie, Whiskers, Smudge, Drooler, and L’il Jag. Oscar Jon will be joining the shredding crew and is available to help Sammy and Kara in the kitchen, Maggie is building a greenhouse for our imported plants, and Kuce, Fang and Luvbug will be tending to the native garden plants. Mimi (of Mimi and baby) has carried some more catnip to the river bank, so we now have 2 thriving patches.
For those of you who didn’t catch Lily’s post, here it is:
“It's great to see the kitties lining up for the Catolympics. We are carrying the flame to the Mt. Cheesemore and have some festive opening ceremonies going on with loads of fireworks. The angel kitties are sprinkling the stadium with angel dust and the kitty athletes are proudly wearing their team colors.

The rink monkeys have built stadium seating - don't snack on please - and a multi-level cat tree obstacle course with roped laddering in between. This will be an endurance event. We also are adding - of course - ice skating competitions, both singles and couples. I will be judging that of course.”
Thanks for that, Lily! Brina, Kiksa, Mimi, Baby, L’il Jag, and Smudge have signed up for Feather Wand Jumping. Mallow and Kuzi are in for Jingle Ball Gymnastics. Mike, L’il Jag, and Smudge want to try the Laser Tag Relay. Mike, do you realize you have to chase the red dot, not wave it? Mallow, L’il Jag, Smudge, and Katya are ready for the Cat Tree Obstacle Course. Of course, Kiska and Kuzi are excited for figure skating. Purrhaps the Frisky Pearls will consider it? And Mallow has entered an event of her own – the Chair to Chair Flying Long Jump!
So far, in the Magnificent Tail Competition, we have Mr. Sampson, Steve, Kuce, and Dasher. Kuzi is c

Thank You Brighton
After a very long absence we we're back online...then as you know I crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Dad was heartbroken and through the daily tears caught up with as many friends as possible. Then well the unimaginable happened. Dad kept hearing crys at night but couldn't find where they we're coming from. He thought he was dreaming of me or just hearing things. After a week he was determined to find out where it was coming from. You'll probably guess what came next. Yep! There was a young cat what appeared to be living under the porch. Dad could only get close enough to see it was hurt before it would run away. After a few days of feeding and cooing Dad got it. It was a young male about a year old badly beaten up. Horrible wounds on his neck and legs. Our absence this time came from the huge vet bill that he incurred with this emergency. Huge cutbacks for two months. Still no income yet from the accident....sometime this fall hopefully, anyway many things went bye-bye to pay the dr. bill.....cable, internet, air conditioning(and yes it has been hot). The kitty has recovered and up to date on the bills so internet restored. And my oh my what a surprise to us all to see I was graced with such a reward as COTD! We are so Blessed by the warmth and love shown to us all here on Cat Channel. The kitty has been named Leo, cause dad says he looks like a little lion. Picture up soon hopefully. No one really likes him but for the most part it has been smooth transitioning him into the house. Has helped soften the blow by my absence but I know he still misses me so. Will take a few days to catch up and get all of my Thank You's delivered. Hopefully this will see you well and know that our gratitude for all the blessings bestowed upon will be remembered forever. As I paw slowly away I leave behind a vote(ofcourse) and the biggest hug my little paws will allow.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the wonderful activities, too. I know lady dolly’s shopping excursion was a big hit..and the fishing wasn’t too bad either..eh guys? Course, the little brown jug helped, too..hehe.. How’d it feel to be the only boy with all those girls, biscuit..hehei hope you found something ncie for your sweetie..
We also learned of a pretty calico kitty in Hawaii on the Road to Hauna drive. Timmy’s mom befriended a resident at in a psychiatric bldg, named MIC A and Sabrina’s mom lunched with a bistro cat named mickey in paris.
Sorry, cherish, I forgot the duct tape for your inflatable mattress. That’s ok, ernie for stealing those batteries..steve’s yowling was a little scerrchy..wish I had thought of that..hehe..
So..every fur…on the road again..grab a seat ……

WE’RE TRAVELING TO AMANDA PARK IN SEATTLE, WASHINGTON. AMANDA PARK IS PART OF THE TIMBERLAND REGIONAL LIBRARY DISTRICT. IN 1991, A NEW BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED IN HONOR OF THE QUINAULT INDIAN CULTURE.

MOTHER CAT, GRAY PAPA, GRAY FUR AND BABY FACE NO LONGER LIVE AT THE BOOKSTORE, BUT LIVE WITH THEIR CAREETAKER.

THEY WERE ALL FERAL CATS AND LIVED UNDER THE LIBRARY IN INSULATED BOXES AND PLAYED OUTSIDE ALL DAY..ALWAYS AWARE OF THE RACCOONS, BEARS AND COUGARS THAT OCCASIONALLY APEARED. THE MOTHER CATS WOULD BRING THEIR YOUNG OUT TO BE FED. THE LIBRARY PATRONS WOULD PROVIDE FOOD AND TAKE THE KITTENS TO BE SPAYED/NEUTERED AND WOULD ADOPT THEM.

WE ARE JUST GOING TO MENTION L.C., A BOOKSTORE CAT FROM ESCANDIDO, CALIFORNIA. HE WAS NAMED IN A 5 MILLION DOLALR SUIT. IT WAS CLAIMED HE BIT THE “ASSISTANCE” DOG OF A PATRON. THE SUIT WAS EVENTUALLY DISMISSED.

WE HEAD ON DOWN THE COAST, STOPPING AT BUILDER’S BOOKSOURCE IN BERKELY, CALIFORNIA. THIS BOOKSTORE CREATES A CENTRAL LOCATION TO FIND TEXTBOOKS, REFERENCE MATERIALSAND SOFTWARE FOR BUILDERS, ARCHITECHS , CONTRACTORS AND DO-IT-YOURSELF’ERS.

MEET SQUEAK - SO NAMED FOR HIS PECULIAR SOUND INSTEAD OF A “MEOW”. SQUEAK WAS A FERAL CAT WHO CAME TO HE BACK DOOR LOOKING FOR A MEAL. THE HAD THE RUN OF THE PLACE BUT WAS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH CHILDREN.

We’ll stop for now..there is plenty of daylight left to enjoy the farmer’s markets or outdoor festicvals. Or, you can enjoy a sailboat ride at the berkely marina or take in a ballet performance tonight. If you’re not tired of camping, you can “rough it” at tilden park or enjoy a wonderful night at one of the many fine hotels. sammy

Hi Brighton!
Our planet has a name! I was leaning toward Caturn, but that turns out to be another planet in our galaxy. yes, Charlotte has been working in the observatory on Mt Cheesemore and she has found we are smack in the middle of a cat planet galaxy! Seems she got a hint from Steve? Sabrina found Caturn and is exploring its rings, which seem to be made of kibble bits. So, by popular "vote," our planet is hereby named.....Thank you Hairballz for that, er, drumroll....Catopia! All your other suggestions will come in handy for naming the rest of the galaxy. Not to mention our two moons, Fluffernutter and Furbalia. Furbalia is the blue one.
In celebration, Chef Sammy is holding a Make Your Own Pizza bar. Assemble your own favourite pizza and Sammy (with assistant Kara) will bake it in his smooch-powered pizza oven.
Now I am pleased to announce our Magnificent Tail Competition. This was suggested by Vika and Dasher. I will not be competing, not wishing to tkae unfair advantage of my friends. Any fur who wishes to show off his or her magnificent tail simply need to submit his/her name by Wednesday. Everyfur can then view the entries. Voting will be held Thursday and Friday, so be sure your tail is well displayed on your page! Every family gets one vote, and winner will be named Duke/Duchess of Dashingess on Caturday.
The discoveries continue! Trixie has found a secret passage behind my throne, which eld her to a cream cheese cave. She is now following the Milk River out of the cave, in search of adventure. Meanwhile, Mimi has been exploring the holes on Mt Cheesemore and tells me they are full of mice! These are not Mr Nibbles' relatives, but delicious space mice. Dig in! Mimi has also volunteered to plant some springs of catnip beside the pond. By tomorrow we will have a huge catnip forest! Sassy is continuing her investigation of the North Tower and has found that the top floors are made of Brie!
What's everyfur else up to? Malachi was seen checking out the hockey rink, where Lelu has joined the teaching staff. A few brave souls are practising figure skating in between hockey sessions. Steve's been relaxing in the cheese hot tub, while Exit prefers the Vertigo Suite, which is attached to our kitty gym with climbing wall. Ziggy has her own raffia room, filled with noisy toys for blind kitties. She welcomes visitors! Carman is enjoying cat chi. Finally, Lily has offered to organise our own Catolympics. Events scheduled so far are Laser Tag Relay, Synchronised Feather Wand Jumping, and Jingle Ball Gymnastics. I'm hoping for a cat tree obstacle course!
Today's law comes from Leo, of the Zoo Crew Two: Humans HAVE to open any door that a cat wants opened! Purrs - Bennie

hello brighton LIBRARY CATS DAY 4
there is much excitement and chattering as sammy enters the breakfast cafe..everyone is excited about visiting library and bookstore cats and there has been talk of cats in other stores and even in other countries...it is a small world.
gracie talks about a black cat, named justine, who lived at the bookstore "Either/Or" in hermosa, ca., and her mom has even been to Powell's bookstore..who knew? gosh..lady dolly even met FUP and petted her and said Cats 101 did a segment on Library Cats. gin gin's mom met a cat in a music store in brussels and pushkins mom saw a cat in a music store in dublin, ireland. artemis only lives about 35 miles from portland and sebastien's mom's good friend lives there, too. wally reported there are 2 bookstore cats named harriet and cody that live near them. pete speaks of a bookstore cat, named annie, who also lives close by. and, sparky says HE is a bookstore cat...wow..who knew?
this weekend, we are just going to relax and have fun..there are lots of library and bookstore cats to see yet and we should take time out to have a little fun..don't you agree?
k. pete and his helicopters and angel pilots, besides exit's supersonic rocket and biscuit and michah's bus, as well as all the magic carpets will be headed to the Columbia River Gorge near Portland, Or. cashmere has also brought along his little pony cart.
the scenic route tours the "old highway" which is america's 1st scenic byway and winds along the cliffs of the gorge. k. pete will fly us along the Columbia river which is a source of phenomenal beauty and enjoyment. the park is a playground for every kind of recreation...kayaking, wind-surfing, river cruises and nature hikes. there is plenty of camping available or, if you prefer, the Columbia Gorge Hotel is available for our use.
me..i think i'll try out that kayacking...see you all at the park...have fun today...be careful...don't fall overboard..hehe and don't get lost!! sammy

Hi Brighton!
Today I went to see my Babushka's tai chi class. I think we should do some cat chi in the mornings! Princess Katya has offered to lead a class in the feather stick grove at 0 Dark 30 for interested kits. Sir Steve will be in charge of expeditions to explore the cellars. You'll recognise him, he's the one in the protective bubble. If any other kitties have cheese concerns, we do feature a tofu wing and booties and bubbles are available for explorers. Dame Mallow has graciously (?) agreed to be my Court Jester. her charge is to keep the King (me? me!) humble. And for those of you who can't resist nibbling, there is a furniture farm just to the west of the kitchen, where we are growing spare curtains, hangers, and other necessities. The hockey rink is open and I hope everyfur will check it out. Yoda's on hand to teach beginner players and his brother Easy will be happy to take inquiries from anyfur wishing to join the MHL. Already you furs are sending great name suggestions for our planet. here they are:
Catnip (from Linguini)
Catopia (from Sassy)
Meowranus (from Trixie)
Caturn (from Trixia and Malachi)
Zefir (from Mallow - really? did she really?)
Bastet (from Spanky Jack)
Kuziapolis (from Lily)
Catopolis (from Mouse)
It's going to be hard to choose! But it's not too late to enter a name, so keep those suggestions coming.
Today's silly law for humans comes from Dame Carman, co-discoverer of the magic planets. Yes, that's her planet you see orbiting beside us. She has decreed that every time a human sees a cat on a porch (and they are walking by) they have to hop on one foot all the way home. Love it! regal purrs - Bennie

Hi Brighton!
Puff...puff...sorry so late! Today's law is from K.Pete. He tells me that in UK it is an "executable offense" to allow one's pet to mate with a royal pet without permission. I think this does not mean it runs on your computer. MOL Pete raises the very good question of whose permission is needed - the royal pet's or the royal human's. Wonder why royals not just spay/neuter if their pets are running around loose? In fact, why they are allowing their pets to run around loose? I wonder if the royal family is owned by any cats? Much to ponder here. Purrs - Bennie

You throws and I bonks back to you! Kiska enjoys this game also. What about birds on string? How do NY humans play catch with their border collies? Is it okay to throw the ball to be mean? Hi Brighton!
Hope today's is okay! Today, I'm a little serious
According to Charlotte, in NC it is illegal for dogs and cats to fight. The NC humans must all have jobs, because they'd all need to be full time enforcers to manage this one! (I wonder if Charlotte knows there is a town in NC named after her? mama likes it cos of the giant theme park.) It is just the nature of cats and dogs to have disagreements. When does that become fighting? Humans who live with us know we can be loud and still loving. It's no world for a kitty if she can't wack her puppy on the nose to keep him in line! And how can a doggie get through the day with a game of tag the cat? Mama says what need to be illegal is Michael Vick. That kind of doggie fighting makes us mad! Seriously, now the man wants a puppy? We say not! Purrs - Bennie

He tells me that in Hazelhurst, MS it is not allowed to carry fish down the street. Scandalous! Are we supposed to nom then right there on the shore? River banks must be full of humans cooking. Purrhaps if we play hockey our soccer, passing fish back and forth? not much will arrive home to kittens this way. Maybe a stealth mission is called for. Hi Brighton!
Don't worry. If we ever land in kitty jail I'm sure our mamas will get us right out! Seems it isn't just us the humans expect to obey their silly rules. My sweetheart Sheba tells me that in Oklahoma humans who make "ugly" faces at animals can be fined or arrested. I wonder if there's an official "book of ugly" for the face police to compare expressions to. This could get interesting. Is sticking out the tongue allowed? Bugging the eyes? Do fingers in ears constitute a part of the face? Purrhaps it will be safest if we tech our humans to smile politely at every animal they encounter! Purrs - Bennie

Hi Brighton!
Nice to meet you. Your story is a lot like my fur brother Koshka. How those goofy humans think you would get food and water if they leave in house? Glad you have a a fine loving home now. Today's wacky law was spotted by Ziggy. Mississippi has a law prohibiting cats from being out on the streets if they are "rowdy." If a rowdy cat is caught outside, both it and its owner will be placed in jail. Even my blind friend can see this is nuts! First, cats are never rowdy. We display enthusiasm appropriate to the situation. am I right? Second, what about rowdy humans? And third. Cat jail? Huh? I have a bad bad feeling about that one. Picturing dogs with keys. While attending a friend's art gala, we heard a tiny frightened voice crying in the garden outside. Upon investigation, we found our new friend hiding inside a large sculpture. With some effort we managed to extract the dearest little black cat with a terrible cold and in rough condition from the hollow sculpture's innards; we took her home and never looked back!"
NOW CAN WE ALL SAY....."AWWWWWWW"?
