Hi Lucky,
Sorry abour Smokey, We lost our Monica in Oct and it's a hard thing. The seal points are my all time favorites.
FIV, FIP, and FeLv are three extremely serious, incurable, and usually fatal cat diseases caused by viruses. Each is casued by a different kind of virus. However, they are all contagious only between cats and have an interesting quirk that NOT ALL CATS EXPOSED TO THEM WILL GET SICK.
Unlike the viruses that cause upper respiatory diseases or distemper in cats and can be carried in the air, these three require the physical presence of an infected cat in the same place(although not necessarily at the same time) as the cat who catches it. FIP and FeLV are spread most often by prolonged close contact with an infected cat.
Close contact can include mutual grooming or sharing food, water, elimination areas, or sleeping quarters. This means a cat who goes outdoors and urinates or defecates where a cat carring FIP or FeLV goes can catch the virus without ever having had pysical contact with the carrier. FIP and FeLV can also be spread to kittens by a mother with the virus.
The main route of infection for FIV appears to be a bite from an infected cat. Cats who go outdoors particularly if they fight are therefore at risk. The most common profile of an FIV positive cat is an unneutered male who goes outdoors and has sustained bites & scratches from other cats.
Cats who appear otherwise healthy may be carrying these viruses. Reliable blood tests exist for FeLV and FIV. There is a test for FIP, however, a positive FIP test alone without any other symptoms or risk factors is not absolute proof the cat has the virus.

Hi Lucky & gang
Today & every Sunday during my catpaign for Queen Of Hearts will be about answering Dear Abby Katz inquiries.
This question was sent in by Mikki pg. # 103306

Dear Abby Katz,
I am 12 years old & have high BP & mom gives me pills everyday. I don't like taking the pills & mom has tried everything from wrapping me in a towel to pill pockets. I am very good at hiding the pill after mom tries to get it down me. What can mom do to get me to take my pills easier and keep them down?

1.Wrap cat securely in a large towel baby-bunting style, so that only head protrudes.
2.Hold cat securely in your left (non-dominant) arm, while gently grasping sides of his cheeks with your left thumb and forefinger.
3.Tilt head back until mouth drops open slightly.
4.While holding head securely in this position, grasp the pill with your right thumb & forefinger.
5.With the little finger of your right hand, press down on Tiger's bottom front teeth to open his mouth so you can see inside.
6.The 'target' is the v-shaped area at the back of his throat. Flick the pill at the target or reach in and place it there with your fingers.
7.Withdraw your fingers and hold your patient's mouth closed for a moment.
8.Blow gently in cat's face or stroke his throat softly until you can see a swallowing motion.
9.Let go and watch him a few moments to make sure he doesn't spit out the pill.
10.Follow Step 8 with a half-dropper of sodium free chicken broth, diluted with water, or plain water. If you've ever tried to "swallow dry," you'll appreciate some of your cat's inherant dislike for pilling.
11.If he does spit out the pill after step 9, retrieve it and practice steps 1 through 9 until you both get it right. If the pill becomes too soft for handling, discard it and use a new pill
12.Congratulate yourself and praise your cat. A treat is also in order, unless it's meal time.
Tips:
1.If Tiger is uncooperative, enlist a helper to hold him while you concentrate on administering the pill.
2.For very tiny pills, try one of the plastic 'pill-shooters' available from your veterinarian, for step 7.
3.Do not grind pills and mix with cat food unless your veterinarian gives the okay. (It's hard to ensure the cat gets a full dosage.)
4.Unless otherwise instructed, try to give the pill before mealtime, so that he will have a reward to look forward to. Otherwise, give him a special treat reserved for these occasions.
What You Need:
•Towel for wrapping
•small container of broth
•plastic eye-dropper
This is what happens at our house. Instructions are fool proof.
1. Pick up cat & cradle it in the crook of arm, as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger & thumb on either side of cats mouth, gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.
2. Retrieve pill from floor & cat from under bed, cradle

Part 2 of my answer to Miikki
3.Retrieve cat from bedroom and throw soggy pill away.
4. Take new pill from foil wrap. Cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut and count to 10.
5. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl & cat from top of wardrobe.
6. Kneel on the floor with cat wedged firmly between knees. Holding front and rear paws, ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold cats head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler & rub cats throat vigorously.
7. Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap.
Make a note to buy new ruler & repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines from hearth & set aside for gluing later.
8. Wrap cat in large towel , get spouse to lie on the cat with it's head just beneath the spouse's armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force cats mouth open with pencil & blow down straw.
9. Check label to make sure that pill is not harmful to humans. Drink glass of water to take taste away.
Apply band-aid to spouse's forearm, remove blood from carpet with cold water & soap.
10. Retrieve cat from neighbors shed. Get another pill, Place cat in cupboard & close door onto neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with spoon, flick pill down throat with elastic band.
11. Fetch screwdriver from garage&,put door back on hinges. Apply cold compress to cheek & check records for last tetnus shot. Throw old t-shirt away fetch new one from the bathroom.
12. Call the fire department to retrieve cat from tree across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil wrap.
13. Tie cat's front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to the leg of the dining room table. Find heavy duty pruning gloves from garage. Force cat's mouth open with a small trowel. Push pill into mouth followed by a large piece of fillet steak. Hold head vertically and pour 1/2 pint of water down throat to wash pill down.
14. Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room. Sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers, forearm, removes pill remnants from right eye. Stop by the furniture store on the way home & order a new table.
15. Arrange for the vet to make a housecall.
16. Sit on the bathroom floor, wrap towel around kitty leaving only head exposed. Cradle kitty in crook of your arm,get pill from counter.
17. Retrieve cat from top of shower door( you didn't know cats could jump 5 ftstraight up did you?)wrap towel a little tighter, making sure its paws don't come out this time. With fingers at either side of its jaw, pry open & pop pill into mouth. Quickly close mouth. (cats not yours)
18. Sit on floor with cat in lap, stroking it under chin & talking gently for at least 1/2 hour while pill dissolves.
19. Unwpap towel, arrange for SPCA to get cat.
call local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters.

Hi Lucky & gang
Remember don't scratch your head and wonder what if? Just ask Abby Katz....
This from Kuzi # 184183
Dear Abby Katz,
I am a sweet and pretty girl, very playful. I have several friends who are toms, but no tom of my own. Sometimes they tell me they think I was a boy! All my furbs except the baby have somefur. How can I find myself a fine tom?

Well Kuzi, you are very young to want a boyfriend and I think you will have more boyfriends than you can count on both paws in the next few years. You can put a ribbon in your hair or a charm on your collar to make sure you don't look like one of the boys. Finding true love is sometimes a very time consuming thing and you should date lots of boys and see which ones you like best. One day when you least expect it a nice tom will come into your life and you will know that he is the one.
For now, I think you should just be friends with the toms out there and I promise your true love will come when you are older. I think once this blog is posted that you might find some young tom pouncing by your page to get to know you. Don't grow up to soon Kuzi, be the baby as long as you can.

Attention Toms in CC land.
Kuzi wants a young tom single and free
To pounce and be playful
Experienced in chasing bugs and balls
who likes to dance and go to movies and malls.
If you are out there, needing a cute furfriend, stop in and visit Kuzi today.
Hope this helps Kuzi and you get lots of new toms coming to visit. Let me know..

Congrats to the CMR for being today's COTD winner
Please visit all sick kitties and families needing our support.
