Farewell to falling leaves The Fall Almost Nobody Sees by David Budbill Everybody's gone away. They think there's nothing left to see. The garish colors' flashy show is over. Now those of us who stay hunker down in sweet silence, blessed emptiness among red-orange shadblow purple-red blueberry copper-brown beech gold tamarack, a few remaining pale yellow popple leaves, sedge and fern in shades from beige to darkening red to brown to almost black, and all this in front of, below, among blue-green spruce and fir and white pine, all of it under gray skies, chill air, all of us waiting in the somber dank and rain, waiting here in quiet, chill November, waiting for the snow. Hi there, Violet! Yes, it has been a LOOONNNNG time since we have mewed at one another. I understand completely about having to deal with the Cat from Hell. My brother, The Highland Piper, was supposed to be Mom's show kitty, but he turned out to be just as nasty as your brother. Piper even got DISQUALIFIED from a ring, so Mom just packed us up and left. We have not been back to a cat show since...and that was a year ago in June! As for as things around here...Mom hasn't been on CC much at all any more...and not really all that much on the computer. Our Grandpa had strokes last November, then had surgery and nearly died. Since Mom isn't working, caring for him as fallen upon her. Grandpaw was in the hospital and rehab for many months and he's living at home by himself again, but Mom goes over there several days a week and takes Grandpaw to the doctor a lot. We miss her! Sure hope all is good in YOUR world, you SHOW Kitty You! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Hi there, Violet! So, you are more like me than we knew, huh? You don't much like cat shows either. Well, as far as I'm concerned, your brother can just HAVE those nasty things. NONE of us like cat shows...that is...none of us CATS do. And that has made Mom very sad. She really, really wanted to show all of us, but Sebs and Piper both threatened the judges and I just hiss and curl into a ball. But Mom is going to a cat show this weekend, but just to visit. It's at the new Purina show hall at Purina Farms about an hour's drive from us. Mom says she's heard that there are nearly 300 cats entered in that show and there are OVER 100 kittens! Mom's taking a friend along who has NEVEr been to a cat show before in her life. Looks like they will be very busy looking at all the kitties. Glad it won't include ME! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Good morning, Violet! It's been quite a while since we blogged and I thought I had better get in touch with my friends. Sure hope you are doing well. Did you get that new brother/sister from Pendragon yet? Mom has looked at their website, but they are VERY far from us, and besides, Dad says Mom can't have any more than 3 kitties. I agree. I don't think I'd care to have another kitten badgering me the way Piper does. ONE little brother is quite sufficient for me! MOL! I really, really like that professional picture of you, Violet. Oh, that reminds me. Mom has a friend that has a little Euro Burmese kitten who's name begins with a V also...but she has been very sick and is going to have to go back to her breeder. Mom (and Mom's friend) are very sad about that. She's a beautiful little brown tortie. We aren't sure if she is going to have to be put to sleep...she is that sick. It just doesn't seem fair, but at least that breeder is willing to take the kitten back. - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Good morning, Violet GUESS WHAT?! We saw YOU on Coolest Cat! Of COURSE we voted for you! After all, that's what friends do, right? Thank you for the compliment on the pictures. Mom took Sebs and me up to Petco back in June and she had those taken. Or maybe it was July...Mom says she can't remember. All I know is that there were a lot of noisy D-O-G-S there barking and both Sebs and I were NOT happy to be there! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Well, we're not really on CC that much any more. Mom has been busy with Grandpaw and several things around the house. Unfortunately she has now got to take on our local municipality wtih regard to a variance for a new picket fence. Mom feels like she has been losing so many of her friends because she has had so many other things going on and some of them have been making her so stressed that she feels like she's getting mean and nasty. I don't know about that, I just know that Mom came back from a cat show in Wisconsin and loved on us like crazy. WE like that a lot! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Mom and I love that photo of you YES! I think your mom should try to find that magazine on the internet. That would be a most excellent treasure. Yes, that was very nice indeed that he emailed that photo to your mom. What a great photo...and for FREE! COOL! Mom looked into getting PIper's pictures taken at Petco, but then she was able to make arrangements with Preston Smith so she had him take those pictures of Piper. - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Pretty Violet, is that a professional picture of you down there at the bottom? Did you go to Petco for htat picture? Our friend Linus' mom took all three of her kitties to Petco for pictures and they really came out nice. Well, I sure hope you have fun at cat shows. In disgrace I was a VERY bad boy at the cat show yesterday. I went after the second judge to see me. Because of my attitude I was disqualified. That means I CANNOT win any ribbons or points AT ALL any more. Mom can never show me again. While that makes ME happy, Mom is very, very upset with me, because I BIT Mom...on the wrist. I didn't break any skin, but it was right there in front of EVERYONE so everyone now knows that I am NOT a nice kitty. I have disgraced myself. - The Highland Piper Mocha here, Violet. I may not have been up at the ring when Piper disgraced himself (and humiliated Mom), but I can tell you that he was stressed out so much at the cat show, that he kept going after me and punching me with his muzzle that when Mom packed up to take us home, she put us into two separate carriers! Piper was shoved into a cardboard carrier that one of Mom's friends bought for her just so that we didn't fight on the way home. Piper is pretty upset about Mom's behavior toward him, now. She was so upset yesterday that after we got home, she wouldn't touch him. I don't blame her, *I* don't want him touching me any more either! He tried to wrestle with me this morning and I hissed at him and let him know that he was NOT in MY good graces either. Even SEBASTIAN chased Piper off of the bed yesterday...and he wasn't even at the cat show! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Oh Violet, Mom gave me a BATH! She said because I was going ot the cat show too, that *I* had to get a bath as well as Piper! YUCK! I'm sitting on Dad now and he's sympathizing with me. Mom has everything packed up and ready to go tomorrow morning, so I probably won't get to blog with you until maybe even Sunday (Mom's supposed to go out with Dad to his high school reunion tomorrow night after the cat show). The new collar Mom bought me is sort of a pearly pink. Mom WOULD have gotten a lavender colored one, but there weren't any! Anyway, Dad needs Mom to make him dinner and then tomorrow.... I've told Piper GOOD LUCK! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Ooops! Silly us! Glad we're not mad at each other! Yes, I have missed meowing at you...a LOT! What I meant to say is, are you (like me) spayed? I don't have to worry about those stupid boy kitties or trying to raise kittens. Well, Mom SAYS that she's trimming up my ears so that I "look tidy and presentable", but she ALSO bought me a new collar...and she says I'm gonna wear it to the cat show. YOU know as well as I that means I will NOT be showing! Besides, I still have been chewing the fur off the back of my front legs. Mom CANNOT show me like that, and that's a fact! So, I'm GOING to the cat show, but not being shown. Piper will be the only one being shown. Well, you know, your mom COULD show you in the CFA, but you would have to be shown in Household Pet. A friend of Mom's has 2 lynx point Siamese, one is a "contemporary" (but not the wedge head) and the other is an applehead Siamese. They are both pedigreed Siamese, but she has to show them in HHP because apple head Siamese are no longer recognized as Siamese any more and the "contemporary" one is not registered in CFA (but is registered in the ACFA). The cat show here is also a CFA show. It's in St. Charles, MO which is about 20 miles from our house, so Mom doesn't have to travel very far nor do we have to stay overnight at some scary hotel. I think Mom would find it really interesting and fun to have a tortie Tonk! If she showed her, she would have to show her in HHP, but Mom says HHP is where the FUN is! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Dear Violet...you mad at me? I haven't heard from you in so very long. Mom thinks of you and talks about your beautiful markings often. Well, Mom is taking Piper and me to a cat show this coming Saturday. It's just a one day show and, THANKFULLY, Mom will NOT be showing me. She's taking me along to be company/comfort for Piper. She's hoping that if he has me along that he will be less stressed. Mom has been working very hard with clicker training to try and make both of us more comfortable with cat shows. We'll see how it goes! Sure do miss talking to you, Violet. By the way, are you a Premier or are you a REAL kitty (as in breeder). - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Good morning, Violet! Gee Sweetie, it's been the longest time since I have heard from you, and it appears taht it has been a long time since you have been on CC. Sure hope all is OK in your world. Are you OK? Did your Mom find out anything about that other litter of kittens? Mom is not currently in the market for another kitty, but she thinks it would be ever so much fun to have a tortie Tonk like you. We have a dumb question about that. Is there such a thing as a Tortie MINK Tonk, or do they come just in point and solids? Well, we do have some mews for you! I'm sure you heard about all those tornadoes that came through the South. Did you hear about the tornado that hit our airport on Good Friday? Believe it or not, that was the weekend that Mom had professional photos taken of Piper! They were at the show hall (waaaay South of the airport) that every evening and when the tornado sirens went off, everyone was evacuated form the show hall. The photographer is actually one who has had his photos printed in Cat Fancy, so Mom is really excited about getting those photos. THey should be coming in a couple of weeks. And I got some VERY UNFORTUNATE mews. I overheard Mom say that *I* will be going with Piper to the cat shows! I thought I was retired!!!! Mom says I will be going for moral support. Yeah, I'll "support" all right...I'll teach Piper to HISSSSSSSSSSS! We are SO VERY SORRY that those little ones didn't make it. How sad is that? I'm sure that is something that all breeders have to come to terms with...losing kittens. THat's why Mom says she could never become a breeder. She loves too deeply. Mom says she's familiar with the hiding thing at cat shows. Even though Mom showed Angels Spice and Moose, they were scared at cat shows and hid underneath their cat beds. Mom thought it was pretty pitiful with a cat as big as Moose. Mom got the nicest email from Piper's breeder this morning. Mom sent her a picture of Piper and the breeder wrote back that he is a beautiful boy and she hopes that the clicker training really does help Piper to accept cat shows better, too. She said that he would definitely bee a good representative of the breed. That made Mom very happy indeed. Mom looked up the TICA standards for Burmese kitties and she found it to be very interesting and also confusing. It seems that while TICA recognizes two different body types of Burmese, they still lump them into the same breed category. YET...when you look at the standards, there are separate specifications for the American and the European Burmese. All very confusing. Mom prefers them being separate breeds with different looks...much less confusing when comparing the two! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

HEY! Violet! How cool is that, that we are on at just about the same time! MOL! Actually, PIPER is the one who "LOVES" the stroller. I think it's OK, but I don't like to ride in it UNLESS Piper's with me! If I have Piper with me, I'm not so scared. So who is the other Tonk with the kittens? Is one of them going to be your new sister??? So your Mom got to clerk at at a cat show? How cool is THAT! Was that YOU hiding under stuff in the benching cage? GUESS WHAT! The ACFA has accepted European Burmese into CHAMPIONSHIP STATUS as of May 2, 2011...this next show season! Mom is hoping like anything that Piper will be good for that photo shoot in April (she finally heard from the photographer) and if Piper is good, then she's gonna try showing him the CFA in June to get his PRemiership. IF he behaves well for THAT, then she's gonna take him in August to an ACFA show in Wisconsin. She's already working on getting him registered in the ACFA! So that's the news from this end of the planet! MOL! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Good morning, Violet Sorry I didn't get to answer you sooner, but Mom has been off of CC for a while. Grandpa needed Mom's attention. Mom says that she is gonna have to limit our time on CC after this, because Grandpa needs her attention (and SO DO WE....HEAR THAT MOM???) But she's still gonna let us on now and then. Naw, Mom doesn't really know that much about breed standards. She's still learning and studying. Mom says that would be AWESOME to be able to work as a clerk at a cat show. Your Mom would learn so much. Mom would like to do that too at some point, but we shall see what happens. Mom has contacted a professional cat photographer about setting up an appointment in April for Piper. She says that will let her know how he behaves at cat shows so she will know whether to try him at another or not. AND she hopes she can get some really nice pictures of him too. As for me...I'm EVER so glad I don't have to do that any more! MOL! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Mom says she can't draw, either, but... she can COLOR! MOL! She has lots of fun making greeting cards for friends and family with her rubber stamps. You wouldn't believe how many she has! She has a whole room now that she has set up with shelves of stamps and others are in drawers, as well as inks and a thing called a "cuddlebug" which cuts out die cut shapes. Mom admits that she has "waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much fun" doing that stuff! And yes, Mom has made scrapbooks of us kitties. She's working on book #3...which will be Sebastian, Piper and my lives. I know I'm rather dark, but Mom had me DNA tested and I am classified as a platinum (or lilac) sepia Tonk. So if you got one for a new brother or sister, that would be EXCELLENT! MOL! A little off subject here, Mom is really really hoping that Piper has mellowed enough to be her show kitty, because she has been notified that the ACFA is going to be voting to accept the European Burmese into the ranks of Champion status in August of this year. Mom is hoping that Piper will be good at cat shows so that she could take him up to that conference for him to be an ambassador kitty! Wouldn't that be cool? - MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Oh, don't you worry yourself, Violet! Mom and I laugh and go on. And that's OK that you thought I was a Burmese. AFter all, we've been talking about my brother Piper quite a bit. And since I call him my brother, you probably thought we were both Burmese. That is so cool that you will be getting a little sister. Oh yes! Please keep us updated on what happens. A train show? Now you know, Mom actually would find that interesting...but only for a little while. After all, after you see a train run around the track a couple of times, you've seen it all! Did Mom tell you that when she drove to Indianapolis to pick up Piper at the fair grounds, they were having a rubber stamping convention there that same day. Mom does artistic rubber stamping and when she saw the marquis, she said "oooooh! A rubber stamp convention!" She had taken MY breeder with her for company and Kathy said, "Now...we're here to pick up a KITTEN! Not rubber stamps!" Good afternoon, Violet! Well, Mom doesn't say much about her work...when she was working. Mom has a paralegal degree, but wound up working as a legal secretary for 18 years. She did some paralegal work now and then, but her former boss was a serious control freak (I guess ALL lawyers are!) and never gave her the chance to USE her degree. Oh, Mom wishes there were TICA shows closer to us too. SHe would love to see some of the breeds that CFA doesn't recognize. Even the ACFA doesn't have any shows that close to us, and their home office is located here in Missouri!!! MOL! You asked if we could believe that some people find cat shows boring. OH YES! We can believe that! Because DAD finds them boring. Mom has informed him that CAR shows are boring to her, but he still drags her to the Triumph National Convention EVERY SINGLE YEAR. (Mom says she enjoys the DRIVES to the conventions, but the car show itself is BOOOOORRRING!) Oh Violet, you silly girl, you are making me laugh!...I'm not a Burmese! My little BROTHER is the European Burmese! I'm a TONK...just like YOU...well...almost. I'm a platinum sepia Tonkinese. I don't have pretty colors like YOU do. Mom has one Tonkinese (Me), one Siamese mix (Sebastian) and one European Burmese (Piper) - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Good morning, Violet! Yes, we've missed you too! So how are things in New Mexico??? Does it get cold and snowy there? We've had more snow this winter than what we've had for several years. Mom and I remember that you were at a cat show in October, but have you been to more since then? Are you getting used to the Cat Show Thing??? HA! So you had fun visiting your grandma, eh? I don't know if I would have fun over at Grandpaw's house. Grandpaw sort of scares me, because he has to walk with a walker...and that things WEIRD looking...and makes funny noises! The cat show in June is in St. Charles, MO. That's only about 15 miles from us. Mom is so hoping that Piper will behave, but she has found out that she DOES have a bit of an "experiment" she can do. Mom would LOVE to have a professional photo taken of Piper and a certain cat photographer will be at a cat show here in St. Louis in April! So...Mom's gonna see about making arrangements to have Piper photographed at that cat show, even though she will not be showing him. THAT will also give her an idea of how well he will handle the cat show scene again, too! Mom says THANK YOU about the compliments on how handsome Piper is. SHE thinks he's quite handsome too! You're getting another baby brother or sister??? OH MY! Is this another Tonkinese????? Mom would LOVE to go to a TICA cat show, but the closest TICA has any cat shows is Oklahoma City and that's about a 7 hour drive from us! Kind of a long way to go just to SEE a cat show. You asked about Mom's ear and her hearing problem. Sigh. Mom says that the anti-anxiety medication really really helped back off on some of the volume of the ringing, but unfortunately, Mom had to take herself off it it right before Christmas. The medicine was making her stomach hurt! Also unfortunately, Mom's hearing in her right ear is gradually going away. The only thing she can hear on that side is that constant LOUD ringing. But she has made herself come to grips with it and just keeps on going. But that is also why she believes that she will not really be able to work as a legal secretary again. She can't hear well enough any more. - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Hey there, Violet! You still out there? Haven't heard from you in so long, Mom and I thought we would pop by and see how you are doing. Sure hope you are doing OK out there in New Mexico.... Have you been to any more cat shows? My little brother is all grown up now and he's mellowed SOME. Mom has sent pictures of him to his breeder and she is thrilled with how he turned out. In fact, she says he is much better than she expected him to be! Mom's just hoping that with some work he will develop a better attitude about cat shows. She's HOPING to try him at another cat show in June. That will be 1 year from the last time he was shown. Mom's hoping to show Piper in the ACFA, because they may be accepting Euro Burmese into their ranks very soon! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Good afternoon, Violet! Oh Violet, you sure don't look very happy in that benching cage! I can identify with that VERY WELL MYSELF! I will not laugh, because I remember how stressed and scared I was, so you have my sincerest sympathy. Mom WAS thinking about getting a pet stroller for Piper and me to take us for walks around the neighborhood, but then she decided that she would rather have a new camera. Mom's camera decided to kick the bucket and now she can't get ANY new pictures of us! Not even for Halloween! :-( WOW! You won 2nd Best All Breed Alter! Woo-hoo! Way to go, Violet! And this was your FIRST show??? WOW! That is just totally AWESOME! Mom took Piper up to PetSmart today, but there was NO ONE there doing the adoption thing. No one would tell Mom what was going on. All they would say was that "it's a long story" and that the Franklin County Humane Society people didn't do anything wrong. Hmmmmmmmm. Anyway, because there were no kitties out in the cages in front of the usual kitties up for adoption, Piper was better than he usually was. He even let some sstrangers hold him and didn't even hiss or growl. Mom wishes she could show him, but she believes that Piper will never tolerate other kitties (except family) so she says that if she takes him to a cat show it will ONLLY be to have his pictures taken. Thank you for the caring about Mom's ear and Grandpaw. Mom is not happy about her ear, but since things will never improve, she really has no choice but to live with it and learn to deal with it. As for Grandpaw...that has Mom much more concerned and upset. She has been over there twice this week to try and do things with him and keep him cheered up, but she just talked to him on the phone and he sounded depressed again. Mom doesn't know what more she can do and that makes her sad. Your sister Daisy is a very, very pretty kitty! Yep, we are VERY proud of you, Mom and me, about how you did at the cat show. Sure hope you learn to like them and aren't as big a wuss about it as I was...or as MEAN as Piper is! MOL! But I don't think YOU have a mean bone in your body. In fact, I don't think Tonks are near as ornery as burmese are! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Dearest Violet Please forgive us that it has been SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LONG since I've blogged to you. You would not believe all the things going on that have had Mom pre-occupied. But first....HOW DID YOUR CAT SHOW GO????? Mom and I are very curious to know how you did and how things went. We LOVE the new pictures of you. Who is your orange and white buddy? As for things around here...Mom has come to terms with her loss of hearing on the one ear and the ringing seems to have backed off somewhat. It is still bad when she's in crowds, but Mom just grits her teeth and deals with it. She really doesn't have a choice. Nothing can be done to help her. But Mom's hand her hands full with Grandpaw. Since June Grandpaw has had 3 new strokes. They are making it more and more difficult for him to get around. The last stroke actually happened at the hospital while Grandpaw as having tests run to find out why he was getting worse. The doctor put Grandpaw on Cumidin and took him off of the Plavix. HOwever, Grandpaw had profuse bleeding with the Cumidin, so the doctor took him off of it and put him back on Plavix. Mom and Dad left on vacation on 10/16 and while they were gone, Grandpaw's lady friend (Grandmeow died many years ago) passed away. Grandpaw is now VERY depressed and Mom is going to try and spend more time with Grandpaw to try and help him through all this. MEANWHILE, Dad decided that it would be really nice to have a SAFE play yard for us kitties, so he is working on fencing off the area underneath our back porch to turn it into a kitty safe play yard! Sure hope YOU have only GOOD mews in your life! Sending you lots of kitty kisses....sure have missed you and it sure was good to hear from you again! - Mocha's Myst'ryCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

P. S. About Mom's neck Mom read on the internet that SOMETIMES that tinnitus can be caused by pressure on the nerves on a person's neck. Since Mom had that neck surgery 3 years ago, plus she was in that accident in October, there MIGHT be something that went wrong and maybe there's a nerve being pinched or something. Mom feels it never hurts to have these things checked out. If nothing else, it is sort of a "process of elimination". Can't hurt! ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Hi Violet! Well, I admit that I was very scared at cat shows, too. But I sure had better manners than to try and bite people like Piper, that's for sure! I would have said it was a boy kitten thing, but Mom talked with a breeder of Euro Burmese that was at the show (not Piper's breeder) and she was having the same problem with a GIRL kitty! She had a very lovely 18 month old cream girl Euro Burmese and the breeder had to pull the kitty from competition after just ONE ring, because she TRIED TO BITE HER OWNER IN THE FACE when she took her out of the judging cage! That is NOT very lady-like! Yes, Mom is very disappointed. She had really hoped to have the fun of cat shows again. You see, Mom was hoping that she could have that fun and camaraderie to take the place of her horse. Did I tell you that Mom had to sell her horse? Years ago Mom used to Event. She and her old horse Jackson had quite the bond because of that. When Jackie died, Mom got another horse, but it just wasn't the same. Ace didn't know anything about Eventing and Mom didn't have access to a trailer to try and do stuff like that anyway. But she found that Ace was a GOOD horse for trail rides and just being a friend. Now, because of finances AND Mom's health issues, Mom has been forced to sell lhim. That has been very hard on Mom. She was SOOOO hoping that she could find that bond with Piper and the cat shows...but even that has now been denied to Mom. I have been trying to help Mom through that, though. Piper keeps interrupting, but *I* am finally getting through my depression about losing Pepper...and I have been turning to Mom for that love and comfort. But that Darned Piper keeps attacking me and being a brat kitten! ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Welllllll...some things are better and others are the same. Mom's ear is still ringing, occasionally very loud still...BUT...the loud ringing is only OCCASIONAL now. Mom bought an expensive pillow that seems to support her neck. Mom has an appointment this Thursday with the surgeon who operated on her neck 3 years ago to see if there is something going wrong with her neck that may be causing her ear problems. AND Mom went to a local cat show today. She didn't take any of us to show. She went simply to see if she could find MEEEEEEE certain cat toys that I love (and she DID!!!) and she also wanted to talk to one of the cat show judges. You see, one of the judges breeds European Burmese. Mom wanted to talk to that lady judge to see what she could do about Piper and his attitude. Turns out the judge actually remembered Mom AND Piper from June! Unfortunately, she told Mom that Piper's attitude is on that Euro Burmese CANNOT BE TALKED OUT OF! She told Mom that Piper has already made up his mind that he does NOT want to be a show kitty and NOTHING Mom does will help her change his mind! Mom was very diappointed, but she respects this lady judge and appreciated her words of wisdom. The judge SHOULD know since she breeds that breed of kitty. However, MY breeder thinks that Mom should just let Piper be a kitty for several years and that he will mellow as he gets older, so that maybe Mom might want to try taking Piper to a show after he's 3 years old. Soooooooooo...we shall see! Sure hope YOU are doing OK. ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Hi, Violet No, Mom didn't take any of us anywhere yesterday. Mom had originally hoped to go to an out of town cat show with Piper this weekend, but then that thing happened with Mom's ear and it seems to be getting worse. She has been to an ENT but feels he was an idiot and is going to try to find another one for a second opinion. As it is, it appears that Mom has completely lost the hearing in her right ear, except for constant LOUD ringing. The ENT Mom went to said that he can't find anything wrong, yet tells her that this is going to be permanent! Now, you tell me, how he can know it's permanent if he can't figure out what's going on??? Mom is not a very happy camper these days. SHe cries a lot and we have been trying to comfort her. ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Good morning, Violet Hmmmmmm. So you accompany your Mom while she's cleaning the litter pans, huh? I don't remember ever doing that! Sebastian did and now Piper does, but I don't remember doing that. I'm too much of a DIVA to allow Mom to know about my toilet habits! MOL! Mom uses Tidy Cat scoopable litter. She usually scoops it once a day, but sometimes we have really dirtied up the litter pans and she cleans them twice a day. Well, it actually RAINED last night, for the first time in weeks. But now it's turned very muggy and nasty outside. Mom says we still can't go outside. Before she said no going outside because it was too hot, now it's too humid. We are NOT happy about that! Mom was GOING to be taking Piper to a cat show in Marion, Illinois this weekend, but Mom has got some health issues going on and now she's not going at all. So I guess she may just take Piper to PetSmart again on Saturday. So long as she doesn't take me along, I don't care! MOL~! ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Mom would never hurt a dog but Mom sure would NEVER, EVER make us share our home with one of those stinky things. DAD doesn't like dogs either! I guess Mom and Dad have realized just how wonderful we kitties really are! We have them trained just right! MOL! A strange kitty that is pottying everywhere? EWWWWWWW! I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with that. Do you think it's because that kitty doesn't really understand where and what his limits are at your place? ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Mom took Piper up to PetSmart again yesterday, but THIS time Piper acted scared! When she took him over to the adoptable kitties, he started growling and hissing again, too. The lady from the Franklin County Humane Society took Piper and held him until he relaxed, but she wouldn't let him see the other kitties too close. And then this awful Pit Bull was brought by, so the lady HID Piper since he was out of a cage and not safe behind bars like the adoptable kitties. They then put Piper back into the carrier. Mom was attacked years ago by a Great Pyrenees and ever since then she's not very fond of dogs. But Mom REALLLY doesn't like Pit Bulls...and it turned out that the Humane Society lady feels about the same as Mom, too! ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Thanks for the sympathy! Mom has tries so hard to socialize Piper for the cat show thing. I'm like you, I internalize my stress. But I did let Mom know that I was too scared of showing to be a show kitty. I just curled up into a ball...and hissed! MOm has been taking Piper to PetSmart on adoption days so that he can see and smell other kitties (and get used to noisy places) and even let strangers hold him so that he got used to the judges that way. MY breeder (and several other breeders of Tonks and Euro Burmese) all say that it is most likely hormones that are making Piper so rude right now. They told Mom that it can take 30 days or longer to get those hormones out of his system. Mom says she will try him at one more show...but that she's gonna take ME along "for moral support". WHAT???!!! I thought I was retired!!!!! ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Mom says Piper was a BRAT! He BIT EVERYONE! Including the judge! After 3 rings, Mom pulled him from the competition. She couldn't leave because that is part of the rules of showing, you cannot leave until the last final. Mom is NOT very happy with Piper right now and doesn't even want to look at him. HE's ticked too and attempted to bite Mom again once we got home. Things don't look good around here right now. ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Hmmmmmmmmmm Your Mom must have had ESP. I was looking for your brother, Casey, just the other day. I hadn't heard from you guys in so long, I was beginning to wonder if you'd fallen off the planet! MOL! So your brother is GONE???? Well...Gee! Don't know what to say. I'm glad he's happy in his new home, though. Piper is growing up fast. He's almost as big as me now. He's already 6 months old. Mom's taking him to a CFA cat show tomorrow. It's not far from home. Mom doesn't travel that far to a cat show and Piper is not registered ith TICA, so it is doubtful that you would ever see Piper at a cat show. You guys are REALLY far away from us. Hope all is good in your world! ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Casey? Is that you???? That sure doesn't look like you, Casey, but all the messages say that it is you. What's cookin'? I have finally decided that The Kid isn't quite so bad as I thought, although he does need to be put in his place now and then. We spend most of every morning, ALL THREE of us, running through the house and Sebs and Piper wrestle all over the place. Mom is planning on taking Piper to a local CFA cat show on April 17. Kittens need to be 4 months old to be entered into the cat show. Piper just turned 4 months on the 28th of March. Man, is that kitten growing! WOW! He was 1/3 my size when Mom brought him home just a month ago and only weighed 2.4 pounds. Mom had quite a bit of problems getting him to eat when he first got here, but he has sure made up for it since! MOL! He's grown so much he's ALMOST my size in one month! Mom took him to the vet for his FeLV shot the other week and Piper was up to 3.5 pounds just before his 4 month anniversary. I only weigh 5.8 pounds (I got heavier during the winter, but I have been slimmed down lately for spring! MOL!) Piper's kinda long and lean right now, but Mom says his feet are growing and when he grows into them, he will FOR SURE be bigger than me. BUT...he is not gonna be near as big as Sebastian! Sebastian is BIG! EVERYONE that sees him, including our friends who have other regular cats, say that Sebastian is a BIG cat...very TALL and long! Mom says she will help me blog again after the cat show to let you know how things went for Piper. Sure am looking forward to seeing photos of your new home! ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Hey Casey and Samwing! Naw, I do not go to cat shows any more. I HATE them. HATE! As in H-A-T-E and is throw a serious hissy fit HATE them. Mom got the point at the last show she took me to, so I don't ever have to do that ever, ever again! ANd I am HAPPY DANCING that I will never go to another cat show! PIPER on the other hand....he!he! Mom's planning on taking HIM to be her "show kitty". Mom would have liked to have another Tonkinese to show, but in this area, that is a very unpleasant situation with the Tonks. All because of just one particular breeder. That is why Mom decided if she wanted to have a show kitty, that she HAD to switch breeds! Isn't that the saddest thing you ever heard of? Your brother hyperventilates at a cat show? My Goodness! Never knew us kitties could do that! And I am SOOOO SORRY that he gets that scared! Yeah, your mom is right to not show him if he gets that upset. By the way, my baby brother, Piper will have to be shown in Household Pet if Mom decides to show him in the ACFA. You see, the CFA is the ONLY organization (in the US)that recognizes European Burmese! So Mom will have to get him double registered...sorta. Mom has to look into whether ACFA requires any sort of "registration" for HHP kitties. Mom seems to think that they do, because HHP kitties can win the same sorts of titles as Champions and Alters(Premiers) and they can win Cat of the Year titles and stuff like that, too. Well, it sure sounds like you are having a GOOD time in your new home! How cool is that! CAn't wait to see pictures! ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).

Hey ya Casey! Congratulations on being in the new house! NOW that you guys are there...it is a HOME! You know that of course. :) Yeah, I do NOT like this little twerp Mom brought home. Sebastian seems to think he's OK, but I have to come to terms with his presence. Yep...I am NOT a happy kitty! he's taking too much of Mom's attention away from me and Sebastian! You and Your Mom are not wrong in thinking that April was supposed to be the right time to get Piper. But here's the "scoop". You see, the breeder picked out a DIFFERENT kitten...one much younger and a cream colored kitten that would be of proper age to go to a new home in April. Mom didn't feel comfortable about not being able to see or pick out a kitten for herself. So she did lots of talking to the breeder and managed to change kittens. THIS Piper is a chocolate and Mom has always loved that color (it's the same as champagne) and he was born in November, so was able to come here soon er than April. So your Mom is thinking about showing your sissy in a CFA show! Well...Mom told me to tell you that she could only be shown in AOV (any other variety) or in Household pet. CFA does not recognize tortie Tonkinese. TICA does, but CFA only recognizes the 4 basic colors; natural, blue, champagne and platinum. Whatever your Mom wishes to do, we really wish her good luck at the cat shows...and we really reallyl are looking forward to seeing the pictures of you in your new home! HOW EXCITING! ~ MochaCome visit me, Dreamweaver, Mocha's Myst'ry, Highland Piper, Angels Pepper, Moose & Spice & Sebastian (Sir Tooth).
