We are all doing well, and Grammy is much better. How are all of you? I hope you and your family are well. Grammy thanks you for the prayers. They really worked!

I am sorry Winslow is having such a bad time of it. The poor little guy. I am glad that he is acting like his normal self and eating well though. As long as he isn’t suffering and isn’t in too much pain, he will not tell your Mom it is time. I know your Mom is sad, and I wish I could give her extra hugs in person. It is nice that your vet will travel all that way to be there for Winslow and your family when the time comes. It will definitely be less stressful for him and Mom. He is still in my prayers, as is your family.

It is a shame that your Auntie won’t stick around. Can’t she see that her family loves her and will miss her? I hope going to MI makes her happy too. Who knows, she may be back before you know it!

I am happy to hear that your Grandma Is doing well. Ariel will come out soon, I just KNOW she will. Remember it was three weeks before I came out of hiding. Now look at me! I think she just bit your Dad because she was scared. Did he wash the bite very well?

The Lilacs are all blooming – all 4 trees. Grammy gives Mom and Aunt MM a huge smile when they walk in the room with a bouquet. It is a good thing she is in her own room now, because her former roomie is allergic to them! They will bring more to her on Sunday. What do the flowers on the Saguaro Cactus look like? I bet they are real pretty.

What are you doing on Mother’s day to celebrate? Aunt MM and Mom will be taking Grammy out for the day, and Aunt Pat and the family will meet them at a restaurant for Mother’s Day dinner. As always, I am not invited. :( I heard Mom say that when the evenings are warmer, they are going to take me to see Grammy on a weeknight. They don’t want to take me during the day on the weekend, because there is too much activity at the home then, and they are afraid I will get scared. I wonder why they think that?

Your Mom sure works hard. It must be difficult to work on a Sunday. At least the floors will be done soon though.

Happy belated May Day to you! Grammy is doing better and they have started her on her medicine. It is another UTI, but they had to find a different antibiotic to treat her with, because she had Cipro the last time, and it wouldn't work this time around. She sounded good this morning, and hopefully she will get stronger every day. Thanks for thinking of her.

I hope Winslow had a nice birthday last Sunday. Did you have a pawty for him? I hope he is comfortable and not in any pain. I know how sad your Mom is, but he knows she loves him, and like me, he secretly loves his hugs!

The lilacs are all opening now, and are a pretty light purple color. They smell so pretty. I think Mom and Aunt MM are going to bring some to Grammy tonight. They are her very favorite.

Thanks for the birthday wishes for Grampy. I am sure he is with Pepper and Wheezer watching over us.

I am glad that I am not the only one scared of being outside. I bug and bug till they take me out, them I get scared. Silly me.

I hope that Ariel comes out for her appointment and then stays out, so she can bond with your Grandma.

Hi My Sweet Alexi!
I have been missing you lots too! How are you and all of your family? I hope they are all well. I have been thinking about Winslow a lot, and I pray for him every day. I pray that he has no pain and that he is with you all for a long time. At least he is eating and behaving like himself – that is good news! I know that you are a great comfort to your Mom and she appreciates your head bonks and the TLC you give her.

Mid 90s, huh? That’s hot! We are finally getting the spring weather I have been waiting for. I even went outside on my harness a little on Saturday. Of course, I started meowing to go in, because I am afraid of everything. Silly, I know! I would have picked some Daffodils for you the short time I was out there, but we had none left! We got so few blooms this year. The first 4 went to Grammy and then there were none! I think our odd weather is confusing them. We are now getting Lilacs. Aunt MM and Mom were hoping they would bloom, because Sandy and the winter storm that followed really was rough on them.

Yup – three weeks! We used to have a couch that had a recliner on each side, and an empty space inside the couch, in the middle. Mom and Aunt MM called it my apartment. Tee hee. They were getting concerned because they were supposed to get a few more shots for me after a couple of weeks from the shelter, and they kept calling the vet to tell them I was still in hiding. Finally one night after they had a party, I just decided that I was missing way too much, and I popped my head out, and the rest is history! Ariel will come out when you least expect her to. Aunt MM thought after the party, I would never come out, but there I was. I am a stinker, I am. I hope your Mom can catch Ariel.

Too bad your Mom and Dad couldn’t stay longer at the beer festival. When it is too hot like that and no shade, I guess the fun sort of goes out of it. Mom and Aunt MM used to go to the Renaissance Festival in Tuxedo NY all the time, but in the middle of August – PHEW!

Grammy hasn’t been feeling too well. I think she has another UTI, but her temp went up to 102.6 yesterday, and she was real sick. She is better today and her temp is normal, but they are waiting for the results of the test to see what kind of antibiotic they can give her. We know she has an infection, but we just aren’t sure what kind At least she is better today! My Grampy would have been 85 this past Sunday, so they all went to visit Grammy – first to a Mass said for him, then to a pizza party outside in the yard at the home. Aunt MM and Mom kept noticing that Grammy just wasn’t herself. I guess they were right. They should start her medication today some time.

well we are sure hoping here!!

gma is doing pretty good for now. momma has gotten her out of the bed all the time like she was doing. momma will decide in the next few days if she will come back home for now and go back later when momma really needs her there. gma promises if she does go back home, she wont go back to staying in the bed all the time and will get out and do stuff in the yard and such now that it is getting warmer, will just have to see.

is nice here today but we once again have rain on the way. daddy just dont take momma's place when it comes to pet and care, but he will do for now.

I know what you mean. I would love my own computer, but - well, I guess that’s just not going to happen. For now, we will have to rely on our humans.

Spring here has been a little iffy – some really nice days, and some that feel like winter again. Today is warm, but cloudy. The flowers are blooming though, so I am sending you a bouquet of Daffodils and Hyacinth. I hope you like them. Hyacinth can be a little sweet-smelling, and some think too strong.

Poor Winslow. I can understand why you stay out of his way though. I wouldn’t want to tangle with a crabby guy either. He is a really good magic carpet driver though! I hope is wound gets better soon. He must be very uncomfortable. At least he is eating – that is good.

Tell Mom not to worry about little Ariel. I hid in the couch for three weeks until I came out of there, when I first came to live here. Now look at me – I own the place! I am glad they got a new little kitty for your Grandma. I sure hope she gets used to her new home soon and that they bond. They may have to leave her be for a little, until she isn’t scared anymore. As long as they leave food and water for her, she will eat at night, like I used to. Did I ever tell you that Aunt MM and Mom set up a video camera, because they were starting to forget what I looked liked? I would come out at night after they went to bed, and I would eat, drink and use the potty. I even created a little havoc while they were sleeping. Tee hee.

Mom and Aunt MM do believe Wheezer sent me to them! We really are very lucky! Ariel will realize she is lucky soon too.

We are all well, and enjoying the first REAL day of spring. I was actually able to sit at open windows yesterday when Mom came home. I think it will be even nicer today! Finally - yay! I think of you every day too, and I hope you are feeling my good vibes.

I am happy your Easter was nice. Did you have company? I was alone, but it was a nice restful day. And because Mom and Aunt MM felt guilty for leaving me all day, I got my extra special favorite best treat – Fancy Feast Appetizers. I think they should feel guilty more often. Tee hee. I sure had fun coloring Easter eggs with you. Did the dye come off your paws? I still have a little blue dye on mine, but it reminds me of what a great time we had!

I am so sorry about your Grandma’s kitty. I am sure she misses her very much. It is beautiful that you gave her a resting place in your Grandma’s yard, under a big tree. I think it is a good idea to bring another kitty to your Grandma to see if they bond. What kind of kitty is Angel? It is nice that humans have enough love in their hearts for more than one cat, isn’t it? I know when I came along, my angel brother Wheezer was only over the bridge for a week. I am glad that Mom and Aunt MM went to the shelter, even though their hearts were still missing Wheezer. I am lucky. I know that a new kitty won’t take the place of Sasha in your Grandma’s heart, but it may help her heart heal. I like to think that is what I was able to do.

I miss you guys too, and I dream of you all the time. Aunt MM knows when I am dreaming of you, because I always have a smile on my face.

Oh I am so sorry that your Mom is having such trouble with traffic coming home from work. I didn't think AZ had bad traffic like NYC! Aunt MM understands why your Mom is grumpy when she gets home. Aunt MM is like that too if she has train trouble. I don't know why they get so grumpy though. Aren't we the ones who are supposed to bring a smile to their faces, no matter what? Hmm?

I would love to do egg coloring with you. I wasn't allow to help with the hard-boiling or even blowing out the eggs. I don't know why I can't help out a little.

I am sorry your Grandma doesn't recognize Evil Auntie. Does it make your Auntie sad?

The weather here is definitely NOT spring-like! It is still really cold, and more slushy stuff is expected on Monday. Yuck! Ay least it is going to be sunny this weekend. I sure hope Easter is a nice day at least. Aunt MM is working from home on Holy Thursday, but she had to request it and it is such a big deal with her boss. All of the other bosses in Marketing seem to be fine with it. I don't know what her boss has against it. Aunt MM seems to think it is a control thing. Oh well, at least she was able to get next Thursday. Then she is off on Good Friday and Easter Monday. Yay!

I never made it by to wish my special girl a happy St. Patty's day! Shame on me. Did you wear your green? Aunt MM gave me a special Fancy Feast Appetizer treat before they left for Aunt Pat's. I think it was that guilt again - for leaving me for the whole day. They went to Aunt Pat's for dinner, then headed over to visit Grammy to color Easter eggs with her. Aunt MM unfortunately dropped the only egg Grammy decorated, and it broke. Grammy was fine with it, but Aunt MM felt so bad, that she made Grammy another one and brought it to her on Monday. I, of course, missed out on the festivities. I wish you were here with me to color our own Easter eggs.

How are you? How is Mom, Dad and Grandma? I hope you are all well, and that you are having a good week. I am sending you the very first of our Daffodils. well i am gonna channge from my usual blogs and give u some info on st patricks day and then we are off to ireland to sir pushkin's pawty. momma spent yesterday doing things for and with gma so we didnt get on

okay here we go

The person who was to become St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was born in Wales about AD 385. His given name was Maewyn, and he almost didn't get the job of bishop of Ireland because he lacked the required scholarship.

The Pagan Saint?
Far from being a saint, until he was 16, he considered himself a pagan. At that age, he was sold into slavery by a group of Irish marauders that raided his village. During his captivity he became a Christian and adopted the name Patrick.

He escaped from slavery after six years and went to Gaul where he studied in the monastery under St. Germain, bishop of Auxerre for a period of twelve years. During his training he got the notion that his calling was to convert the pagans to Christianity.

His wishes were to return to Ireland, to convert the native pagans to Christianity. But his superiors instead appointed St. Palladius. But two years later, Palladius transferred to Scotland. Patrick was then appointed as second bishop to Ireland.

Spreading the "Truth"
Patrick was quite successful at winning converts. And this fact rightfully upset the Celtic Druids, who had their own native religion. Patrick was arrested several times, but escaped each time. He traveled throughout Ireland, establishing monasteries across the country. He also set up schools and churches which would aid him in his indoctrination of the Irish country into Christianity.

His mission in Ireland lasted for thirty years. After that time, Patrick retired to County Down. He died on March 17 in AD 461. That day has been commemorated as St. Patrick's Day ever since.

Maewyn Myths
Much Irish folklore surrounds St. Patrick's Day. Not much of it is actually substantiated.

Some of this lore includes the belief that Patrick raised people from the dead. He also is said to have given a sermon from a hilltop that drove all the snakes from Ireland. Of course, no snakes were ever native to Ireland, and some people think this is a metaphor for the conversion of the pagans. Though originally a Catholic holy day, St. Patrick's Day has evolved into more of a secular holiday.

Symbolism
One traditional icon of the day is the shamrock. And this stems from a more bona fide Irish tale that tells how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Trinity. He used it in his sermons to represent how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could all exist as separate elements of the same entity. His followers adopted the custom of wearing a shamrock on his feast day.

The St. Patrick's Day custom came to America in 1737. That was the first year St. Patrick's Day was publicly celebrated in this country, in Boston.

Sweet furrfriend, it's been a while since we stopped by your page. How are you doing? You know that we love those Aby kitties and mom is not happy that we've lost two of those. Mom and Beaker have a very strong bond and mom dreads the day when he is ready to cross the bridge. She's been searching for the lady who had all three but hasn't had any luck. Mom thinks that the Aby kitties are very special, we feel sure that your pawrents feel the same? Sorry that Dusty is a little skiddish. Our Biscuit doesn't like to be picked up either so I guess it's not fur everyone. Yes, the weather is getting a bit better. We had a really mice day yesterday with temperatures in the high 60ies. Mom opened several windows and also the outdoor enclosure. We enjoyed the smell of the fresh air. Tell mom that my mom will do her best to get an email to your mom very soon. Mom is on her way back to work this morning but if she's not busy the next few nights, then that's when she'll get the mail together. Hope you're feeling well--you look spectacular!

Rosie has her own page at 252822. She is a cutie but very young and playful. She likes to pick on me for some reason or other. Mom accidentally stepped on her last night and she lashed out. Mom thinks that she might have been abused. She does over react to everything. she will bite if you pet her from behind. Mom is working on her with trust. It is very rainy here. Our Finster had a dental problem but he is better now. He had a terrible infection & very good at hiding it. All is well here. Mom has a settlement meeting this April and is hoping for the best. yep wierd weather here this winter
we have a nicer day today is actually in the mid 50's and is to get to the mid-upper 60's for weekend but looking at storms again for monday.
momma is to go for an eye exam in the morning to get new glasses as she is getting no see good at a distance.
u an sure gma will want her to come by and get her so she can get out as well.

dont know if u saw our earlier blog bout gpa but he is not doin well and now has a liver or kidney infection and has quit eatin again. we pray for him

well just great cc seems to be getting slower and slower today. must be froze hhhhaaaaa

well queen josiemae is taking time off the blog trail today so maybe we can get some done today.
the temp at my home this morning was 29 with snow flying and wind gusts up to 30 mph, and then for sunday is to be 64!!!!! georgia has had some crazy weather this winter.

ARE YOU READY TO DO SOME MORE HOME HEALING WELL HERE WE GO

COLDS

Make a tea from the leaves of boneset. Drink the tea when it has cooled. It will make you sick if taken hot. Leaves of this plant may also be cured out and saved for use in teas during the winter months

Make a tea from powdered ginger, or ground up ginger roots. Do not boil the tea, but add the powdered root to a cup of hot water and drink. Add honey and whiskey if desired.

Boil pine needles to make a strong tea.
Take as much powdered quinine as will stay on the blade of a knife, add to water and drink.
Parch red pepper in front of a fire. Powder it cook it in a tea and add pure white corn liquor.
Drink lamb’s tongue and whiskey tea.
Drink whiskey and honey mixed
Drink red pepper tea
Eat onions roasted in ashes
Eat a mixture of honey and vinegar
Drink tea made from wintergreen fern
Take a three pound can of pine twigs and rabbit tobacco. Boil together and strain. Drink some every three hours, taking no more than one full juice glass within a 12 hour period.
Drink some of the brine from kraut put up in churn jars. It makes you thirsty and you will drink more water.

HEADACHES

Bind wilted beet leaves on the forehead.
Tie a flour sack around your head.
Put several ginseng roots in a piece of brown paper and tie it to your head.
Put turpentine and beef tallow in a bandage and tie it tightly around your head.
Pour hot water over mustard leaves to rouse their odor and strength. Bind these leaves in a poultice to the head with a cheesecloth strip.
Smear your brow with crushed onions.
When you get your hair cut, gather up all the clippings. Bury them under a rock and you will never have a headache. Oldtimers would never allow their hair to be burned or thrown away as it was too valuable.
Use a poultice of horse radish leaves.
Rub camphor and white whiskey on the head.

TODAY WE CARRY ON WITH SOME MORE HOME REMEDIES WE DID NOT
GET TO EARLIER

CHEST CONGESTION

Make a poultice of kerosene, turpentine and pure lard to prevent blistering. Use wool cloth soaked with the mixture. Place cheesecloth on the chest for protection and then add the wool poultice. Heat mutton tallow and apply it directly to the chest.

Place a large quantity of rock candy in a little white whiskey to make a thick syrup. Take a few spoonfuls of this several times a day. Apply a mixture of camphor, mutton tallow, soot, pine tar, turpentine and lard to the chest.

Make an onion poultice by roasting an onion then wrapping it in spun wool rags and beating it so the onion juice soaks the rags well. Apply these to the chest.

Eat raw honey

Render the fat of a polecat. Eat two or three spoonfuls. This brings up the phlegm.

Mix up hog lard, turpentine and kerosene. Rub it on the chest.

Rub groundhog oil and goose oil on chest. Then cover with a hot flannel cloth.

CONSTIPATION

Gather the roots of mayapple, cut out the joints, and dry the middle of the root. Place in a cloth and beat to a powder. Add a few drops of castor oil and roll into pills. They keep very well. You can also put a pinch of powder in food or in syrup.

WELL TODAY SINCE YALL LIKE THE RECIPES AS WELL AS U DO I WILL ADD SOME MORE

CHOW CHOW
1 peck green tomatoes 2 oz cloves
1 peck string beans 2 oz celery
seeds
1/4 peck small white onions
2 oz allspice
1/4 peck green peppers 1 lb brown
sugar
2 lg heads of cabbage 1 box yellow
mustard seeds
1/4 peck red peppers 1 oz tumeric
4 tbs white mustard seeds
vinegar

Chop the tomatoes, let them stang overnight in their own juice. Squeeze out the brine. Chop the cabbage, peppers, onions, and beans and mix together and add the tomatoes and the spices and sugar. put in a porcelain kettle and cover with vinegar and boil 3 hours. when cool seal in jars

WATERMELLON PICKLES
4 lb watermellon rind 2 qt cold water
2 tbs whole cloves 4 lb sugar
1 qt cider vinegar 1 tbs slaked lime
2 tbs whole allspice
10 2 inch pieces of cinnamon sticks

remove all pink pulp pink from rind. peel outside peeling from rind. weigh. cut in 1 inch circles or cubes. combine cold water and lime. pour over rind and let set 1 hour. drain and then cover with cold water. simmer 1 1/2 hours or till tender. drain. tie spices in a piece of cheesecloth. combine vinegar, 1 qt water and sugar. heat until sugar disolves. add spice bag and rind and simmer gently for 2 hours. pack rind in clean hot sterile jars. fill jars with boiling hot syrup. seal. makes bout 12 half pints

OLD FASHIONED GINGER BREAD

1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 cup butter 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup molasses 1/2 cup sour milk
2 cup flour nuts or rasins if
1/2 tsp soda desired

mix all ingredients together, put in large loaf pan and bake for bout an hour. this recipe is at least 100 years old

DRIED APPLE CAKE

mix up a regular white or yellow cake recipe and bake it in 4 thin layers. mix 1 pint of dried apples with 1 pint of water, and cook until thick and the apples are mashed. sweeten to taste with syrup and add some spices, whatever u like best. let cool a bit and spread the mixture between the layers and on top of cake you can cover the sides if u want

i am very sorry i was not able to get my blog on yesterday, but when momma got to gma's saturday she was getting sick with that ole bad stomach virus and momma stayed with her thru sunday as momma has already had that virus and knows how sick and bad u feel with it.

Okay off to somethin new again in our ways of hillbilly life. Mountain recipes

Brunswick stew
2 lb. Cooked ground beef 2-3 chopped onions
1 lb cooked lean ground pork 1pint tomatoes
1 small cooked chicken, chopped
catsup
3-4 diced taters
chile powder
1 pint kernel corn salt
1 cup lima beans black and red pepper
2-3 diced carrots worcestershire sauce

the vegetalbes may be witherd raw or canned. Mix everything together, and simmer a long time. If u want to can it, put in jars and place them in a boiling water bath foe 1 and ½ hours

leather britches beans

these beans are hung on a string to dry. Take a string of them down, remove the thread, and drop them in a pot of scalding water. Then add a good hunk of meat, ham. Pork or whatever u like and cook all morning.

Corn pones

1 pint corn meal 2 table spoon baking powder
half teaspoon salt milk
1 tablespoon lard

mix together meal, powder, salt and cut in lard and add enough mild to make a stiff batter. Form into pones with hands or add some mild and drop from the end of a spoon. And place in a greased pan. Bake in a hot over for bout half an hour or more to get browner.

Happy belated Valentine´s Day for you all!! Mom said she would help us to catch up in our kitty blogs this evening.
It has been hot and wet over the past days and we are waiting to have some rains soon.
Since we´re officially done with the baby-sitting of doggies and kitties for this season, Mom said it was time to clean up our house yesterday morning. I was having my napp, dreaming of mice and catnip when the mischievous lady came with her awful vacuum cleaner and woke me up!! That was rude of her. I hate that thing.
It eats everything on its way, including mousie toys. I hiss to it.
I hope so much you have a purrfect week. Here I send you a huge bunch of whiskers kisses and hugs...

Hi all kitties. Well here we are to continue this hillbilly way article on moonshine

HOW THE BESTOF THE BEST WAS MADE

For this section, two men who are reputed to have made some of the best to come out of Georgia tell how they did it

Go to the wood and find a good place. Make a mudhole which contains plenty of good thick red clay for use in the furnace. Also construct any water lines needed for the flake stand
Choose the corn. Do not use a hybrid or yellow corn. Use a good fresh pure white corn which will produce about 3 quarts of whiskey per bushel. Get nine and a half bushels.
Put at least a bushel and half of corn aside to sprout
In winter, put this corn in a barrell or tub, add warm water, and leave it for 24 hours. Then drain it and move it to the sprouting tub. Cover it with pretty warm water, leave it for 15 minutes and drain the water off. Put the tub close to a stove and turn the cold side to the stove at least once a day and so on
In summer simply put the corn out in the sun in tow sacks and sprinkle warm water over them once a day and flip the sacks over.
Take the remainder 8 bushels of corn to be ground up. Take this meal to the woods the last 3 or 4 days should have been spent building the furnace and installing the still. Build a fire under the still. Fill it nearly full with water and stir in a half bushel of corn meal. When it comes to a boil, let it bubble for 35 to 40 minutes. Cook it wll or it will puke too much when cooking later. When it has cooked sufficiently, bring one of the barrels over. Put it under the slop arm of the still, push in the plug stick and let the contents of the still fill the barrel. Add a gallon of yet uncooked meal and let the hot contents of the barrel cook it alone. Make sure it is stirred in well. Move the barrel aside and repeat the whole process until all the meal is cooked, and all 7 barrels are filled. Go home.

Hi My Sweet Alexi,
Oh am I so happy that you will be my Valentine! I would love to go to Spain. I have never been there and I know I will enjoy seeing the sites for the first time, flying above in your magic carpet. I am not much of a dancer, but as long as you don’t mind a couple of sore paws, I would love to be your dance partner.

Aunt MM is back to commuting full time. She is still hoping she will be approved for working from home at least one day a week. The snow in the city is melting fast, and in Manhattan there is hardly any left. We are expecting some more tonight, but only 1 – 3 inches. I hope it is closer to 1 inch. We had temps in the 40s yesterday and Monday, and it rained most of the day Monday, so that helped.

I am so happy for your Mom. I know she is thrilled that she is on vacation. Did she do the happy dance? Tee hee.

I can’t wait till our trip to Spain. I will take care of the dinner. We can have a little picnic on the magic carpet if you like. I remember it being a pretty smooth ride.

Yes, I think I will stay inside where is it nice and warm and cozy! I don't think Aunt MM will be working from home next week, because by then the snow will be melting and the mass transit will be running okay. It has been nice having Mom and Aunt Mary home all day today though.

Aunt MM looked up the story about the Trapped cats in Belarus, and she was horrified. Too bad they didn't have any place where we can donate. Aunt MM will keep looking though. What a horrible story. Those poor kitties. It makes me realize how lucky I am to have a nice home.

Hi My Sweet Alexi!
How are you, my sweet girl? I hope all is well with you and your family. How are Mom and Dad? It is great to hear that your Grandma is doing well.

We sure got lots of snow - about 8 or 9 inches, I think. Aunt Pat got about a foot on Long Island. I am so happy I can just stay in the house and be cozy and warm. Aunt MM got home from work early yesterday, before the storm really got bad. A neighborhood kid rang the bell this morning to shovel. Aunt MM was so happy that she and Mom didn't have to do it. They were kind of dreading that. They actual went out last night right after dinner to clean up a little, but the real heavy snow hadn't even started yet.

Aunt MM sent your Mom pics of the front and backyard with all of the snow. The backyard looks pretty, but I wouldn't want to be out in it. I would sink in and be lost forever - or till the spring thaw anyway!

I hope it doesn't get too cold for you. Do you need the rain that is coming?

we have a pretty day here in the south this morining, not so in the northeast and we send out prayers to all that are impacted by this huge blizzard

HI YALL HOW YALL DOIN ON THIS HERE FINE DAY? WELL WE WILL CONTINUE WITH OUR LESSONS ON “THE HILLBILLY WAY”

Today we are going to get into more home remedies:

Arthritis:
Drink a mixture of honey, vinegar, and moonshine
Make a tea from either the seeds or leaves of alfalfa
Drink powdered rhubarb dissolved in white whiskey
A magnet draws it out of the body.

Asthma:
In one pint of gin, place several pieces of the heartwood of a pine tree. Leave them in the gin until they turn brown. Then take one teaspoonful of the mixture twice a day.
Suck salty water up ur nose
Smoke or sniff rabbit tobacco ( I am sure I will have to go into that!!!!!)
Swallow a handful of spider webs rolled into a ball
Keep a chihuahua dog around the house
Smoke strong tobacco until u choke
Drill a hole in a black oak or sourwood tree just above the head of the victum, and put a lock of his hair in the hole. When he passes that spot in height, he will be cured ( if the person dies, so will the tree)
Drink a mixture of honey, lemon juice, and whiskey, using a tablespoon of each
Gather leaves from ginseng , dry and powder them. Put the powder in a pan, place a hot coal on top of it and inhale the smoke

Bleeding:
Place a spider web across the wound.
Apply a poultice of spirit turpentine and brown sugar to the wound
Apply lamp black directly to the wound.
Use a mixture of soot from the chimney mixed with lard
If the cut is small, wet a cigarette paper and place it over the cut.
Use kerosene oil, but be careful not to add to much or it will blister the skin
Use pine risen

well here i am back from gma's finally. gma is doing okay but still having lots of pain from her bad back.
we went the 50 miles down to the hospital to see gpa, he is not on the respirator any longer, but will barely eat, only a few bites. well on with our day.

IT WILL BE A BAD WINTER IF:

Grapes, cockleburrs and apples mature early
Sweet potatoes have a tougher skin
Onions grow more layers
Trees are laden with green leaves late in the fall
The crop of holly and dogwood berries is heavy
Hickory nuts have a heavy shell
There’s a heavy crop of berries, acorns, and pinecones
Bark on trees is thicker
Tree bark is heaviest on the north side
Corn shucks and silk grow thicker and the shucks grow tighter around and further over the ends of the ears
Leaves shed before they turn
Moss grows heavy on the trees
The old-time corn ear (shank) hangs downward
Laurel leaves roll up
Pine cones open early
And the darker green the grass is during the summer, the harder the winter

WEATHER SIGNS
Today it is forcasting winter by insects

IT WILL BE A BAD WINTER IF:

Hornets build their nests heavier and closer to the ground than usual
Worms are bending up and going into peoples’ houses and abandoned buildings in October
There are a lot of spiders, frost worms, and black bugs about in the fall
Miller moths hit the screen trying to get in

The wooly worm tells of a bad winter if:
There are a lot of them crawling about
He has a heavy coat
The black band on his back is wide (the more black than brown he is and/or the wider the black stripe, the worse the winter).
If he is black in front, the bad winter is to come; and if he is black behind, the worst weather is past
If he is brown at both ends and orange in the middle, the winter will be mild
If u see him crawling before the first frost.

Three months after the katydid begins “hollering” the first killing frost will come

When butterflies migrate early, winter will be early and when they gather in bunches in the air, winter is coming soon

we are concerned bout when gpa has to go for therapy. he is 79 and quite stubborn sometimes. oh well

our weather has turned cold again but at least the sun is shining and no bad wind and rain today either.

we are asking all kitties to send up prayers for the tornado victums here in georgia. two or three of our counties toward the ga/al line got hit really hard and some lost everything, two even their lives.
it is such an odd time for tornadoes here, but this wacky weather is bad this year.

Things are good here. I do miss having Aunt MM home all day, but I am dealing with it. I just nap more, that’s all. It seems to be working. :) Aunt MM was hoping that she was going to go back in the spring too. To top it off, she went back the coldest week of the winter so far!

It is great that your Dad is logging all of the hours he needs to fly solo! Hey, maybe you can fly along side the plane on your magic carpet?

Grammy was sprung. She can leave her floor now. Yay! The 5th floor is still on lock down, but I think the flu outbreak has started to subside from what it was here in NYC.

well gpa had his surgery yesterday for a partial hip replacement and did okay, they are putting him on a respirator for a few days tho.

the weather hoomans are tellin us we have some bbadd weather coming our way with high dangerous winds, possible tornados, lighting, and very heavy rain. is to be hear by early afternoon. hope they are wrong!!!!

momma got us some new food, it is breakfast food from friskies canned. it is called rise and shine, and has salmon, eggs; chicken and eggs and sure is good!!!!!!
