Hi Sammy!
Oh, it's nice to be a good kitty for awhile, but not for TOO long. Then the humans will either start to get spoiled, or worse, they'll start thinking you don't feel well and take you t the v-e-t.

I wish we were getting some nice weather here! The weather is WILD all over the country. We had really warm days a couple weeks ago, into the 90's, and so far this week our HIGH has been 66. Today, at noon, it just broke 50. And it's been windy and rainy, with a wind chill this morning of 33! And get this - the actual temperature tonight is supposed to be around 35! Can you believe that? They say that will be a record low. And yet, near 80 by the weekend again! Insanity!

It's impossible to get used to these kind of changes. One day mom is in a T-shirt and wearing light jammies to bed with the windows open, 2 days later she has flannel jammies and the heat on. No wonder everyone around here is getting sick! Not mom, yet. Keeping paws crossed.... MOL!

How are you today.Was a nice morning but is storming,raining again,that ole thunder sure is loud.Mom took me out when the sun was out,as soon as we went out the door a grasshopper came flying right by my head and I jumped up and caught it,I did not even expolre any today,I was to busy playing with mr.grasshopper,I was having fun,he would crawl off and I would pounce on him,then I would lay my paw on it,raise it up and it would try to fly off and I would pounce on him again.Mom just sat down while I played with ole grasshopper,she said Spongie are you not going to explore any,nope not now mom,I'm to busy playing with mr.grasshopper,well I was looking at mom and ole grasshoper got away from me,I said mom you made me lose him,I looked for him and mom did to but he was gone,ole grasshopper.I ate grass and we came back in,it was getting stormy looking out there,I ate,then went and got on my toy rug cause that ole loud thunder scares me,then wehen mom wnt to rest I raced and got right beside her with my head under her arm,she said Spongie that ole thunder won't hurt you,its just loud,then Wicket came racing in and got on the other side of mom,Baby,Missy,Cindell just kept on napping.Now its getting darker again and more ole loud thunder,I'm still on moms bed with my head uner the pillow.,Wicket sitting beside mom,Baby,Cindell,Missy still napping,does anyone have any thunder proof earplugs I can borrow,hehe.Hope the weather is better for you all there,pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.

wow we had some more nasty storms at home last night and it got one of our outlets that has a breaker and all the outlets on one side of the kitchen dont work and momma had to pull the fridge out and run a heavy drop cord to it.

momma also said she saw on the news this morning that a lady in oklahoma foune her two precious kitties after searching the debris for hours. one has a broken leg and the other is just fine. sure did put a big smile on momma's face
momma ordered and inspiron 15.6" with touch screen from dell. sure hope she likes it and it gets here soon so we can get to our hockey games again before playoffs are over.

Ha ha ha ha ... when kitties fly with ME, they should know that anything can happen! We shoulda maybe thought it over a bit more and jumped BEFORE O.J. entered that wing eatin' contest. He won it, too. Then he celebrated with a bunch of tequila. He doesn't even remember jumping so we'll have to do it again!

That furless kitten would probably look cute doing the chicken dance, you should try it. As long as she doesn't try to make the kitties do it! I'd draw the line at that. -- Mallow

MIDNIGHT & STAY AWHILE – by A. Knight

“Molly’s cat died,” said Denise’s tearful voice on the phone. “Midnight was hit by a car.” Molly, Denise & I had been friends for 10 years & we all loved Midnight.

Denise explained Midnight had somehow gotten out of Molly’s house & a car had hit him. A neighbor had found Midnight, put him in a box & taken him to Molly. Molly & Midnight had been together for 18 years. My own cat had recently died from old age & I was crushed.

“Let’s go to her house & have a little funeral service,” I suggested. “I’ll pick up flowers & make a little cross with Midnight’s name on it.”

We decided to meet at Molly’s house. I stopped by the flower shop to pick up a bouquet of daises. There was a pet store on the way & I thought they might have an appropriate sympathy card. In the shop was a small gray & black kitten in a cage. It was too soon to get Molly a kitten. You can’t just replace one cat with another as if it were a broken dish. Not yet. The kitten tried to climb over his cage to reach me & did a back flip, making me laugh.

“He’s cute, isn’t he? I don’t know why no one has bought him yet,” the storeowner said. “I guess he is going to stay awhile.”

“Stay Awhile.” I smiled. He had just been named. “I’ll buy him & the cat carrier too.”

If Molly didn’t want a kitten, I would keep him. As I drove to Molly’s, the kitten meowed loudly.

“Be quiet, Stay Awhile, you’re going to mend a broken heart today,” I said, hoping Molly would accept the kitten. Denise & Molly were waiting for me.

“Molly, I know I shouldn’t have done this, but I saw this kitten & couldn’t help myself. I know he can’t replace Midnight, but if you don’t want him, I’ll keep him. His name is Stay Awhile,” I said.

“Stay Awhile? What a silly, delightful name!” She kissed the kitten’s nose. “Of course I’ll keep him. I couldn’t bear one night not having a cat in the house.”

“We should probably-you know-bury Midnight now,” Denise said.

We solemnly dug a grave in the garden & gently placed the box in, covered it up & placed the flowers & little wooden cross into the earth.

Suddenly, a cat leaped over the fence & landed at our feet.

“MIDNIGHT!” we all screamed. Molly grabbed the black cat & lifted him up. “It’s Midnight!” She burst into tears of joy.

“Molly, didn’t you look into the box the neighbor gave you?”
Molly replied, “No, I couldn’t stand to see Midnight dead!” We all laughed hysterically. Some poor stray cat just had a 1st class funeral!

I was thrilled I could keep the kitten! A day that started with tears ended in laughter, thanks to a cat who came to his own funeral & a kitten named Stay Awhile. I bought Stay Awhile to help heal Molly’s broken heart, but instead he healed mine!

It's been rather hot at the Cathouse the past week. Yesterday was 87F with high humidity and mom's plants love the heat. She already has a few tiny tomatoes on some of the plants. Actually, the weather was quite mice in the mountains while mom and dad were there except fur the last day. It poured and interestingly enough, while the storms moved east, they never reached the Cathouse. It's been storming all around us the past few days so we probably need some rain. Glad to hear that the heat finally showed up at your house too. Mom is off today 'cause she got called to work on Monday. She has some errands to run and more cleaning....I do what I can to keep her busy 'cause that means job security...MOL! I'll be by to fetch you shortly. I just opened up the inhalation room and you're really gonna love that. The aroma of catpot permeates every hair in your fur...this will be a trip like no other....MOL. Don't tell mom 'cause she may not want you to ride with me again then.

I'm already there! My heart always stays at the Pinto! Not my actual heart-that would be like Mike the Headless Chicken or something freakish. I can't believe its turned cold there! Cripes,everywhere else is like a heat wave-here included. BUT...they did say down in the 60's by the weekend-of course! Can't possibly be nice on a weekend! I think its written in the weather rules somewhere.
Its vanilla pudding day Sammy...lets go slurp up some of the boring stuff. Poor vanilla...it just wants to be as exciting as chocolate,or banana,but can't...

janet's wishing to get out and walk, but we've had boomers here since midnight through 3:30 this morning and a steady rain since that time which is finally starting to lighten up and might allow janet to get a quick walk in but she doubts it. almost sounds like it's gonna stop, but don't know as we did hit a high of 96 here yesterday warmer than predicted, then janet was at the er from 3:30-5 yesterday as master fell outside of his eye dr's but is fine just a bruised rib and slightly sprained right wrist. nothing major! all aokay and home again by 5:30 long way home due to traffic being backed up! sandy,ana,haley,angels

Hi there! Great to meow with you! It was a very nice pawty and I enjoyed myself a lot. But your weather -- yikes! We've had consistent weather for sure. Today it hit 98* and tomorrow is forecast to be 103*! We've already hit 100* one day. Yep, Phoenix summer is hear early, as always. We hardly ever have a spring. My precious Ana had Sports Day today, so I was up there burning up my Nikes. Their weather was a bit cooler than we had down here. I hope your Mom's veggies do have their little sweaters on and will be safe. It's late, so I'm headed to bed. I'm leaving you a vote and wishes for a very blessed night and sweet dreams.

Another scorcher today..we hit the mid 80's again. It was 90* yesterday and this is only May, can't imagine what July will be like.

They keep calling for rain, but it never comes, so mom keeps waterin' the flowers outside. We do not like the hose, so we come upstiars when she does that, she doesn't get us wet, but we are afraid the water will get us anyway.

Mom is all done painting her dresser and vanity in her room. She ordered a new white chest of drawers yesterday. Mom ordered a new headboard last month and it is white, so instead of replacing all the furniture in her bedroom, she painted it all white, but the chest of drawers is so damaged and the drawers are falling apart, so she ordered a new one.

Thanks also for my COTD win and my birthday wishes and gifts. I know this is late, but with 6 kitties, mom is usually behind with our blogs. I was pleasantly purr-prised by my COTD win, I was not expecting that at all. Thank you!!!

How are you today.Was nice this morning,but then we had another storm with hard rains.Mom had to go shopping for kitty food,and my treats,then by the time she got home it started raining and storming,so I have not got to go out at all today,ole storms.The thunder was so loud it sure scared us all,I hid way in the back of the cat tree until it was over,then I ran and got on he bed with mom,while she rested,going to the store sure did wear her out and started all the ole pain back for her,ole pain she said.Wicket hid in the kitty cube during the storm,Baby,Missy,Cindell just kept on napping.So nothing much going on here right now,I have made a few rounds through the house,looked out all the windows,ate treats,napped,carried mr,innertube,now I'm laying on the toy rug looking out the door,its getting dark out again,hope we don't have more of those storms,Wicket is laying on the other side of the toy Rug,Baby sitting on the cat tree,Missy,Cindell naping.Mom said if it did not storm later we might get to go out for a few minutes,I hope so I need to explore and eat my grass,so guess for now I'm stuck inside,pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.

Thank you for pawing by with such sweet ♪ Happy Birthday ♫ wishes & goodies for us. What two extra-fun days we have enjoyed! We celebrated with Minnie Mouse cuppycakes (Mommy’s furiend who owns www.rosebakes.com made them for us). MerryBelle got a mew stainless steel Drinkwell Zen water fountain and Sissy got a red Petzip Luxury Stroller/carrier/car seat all in one. We also got a pink wand toy with a blinky ball on the end of it. You can see pics on the bottom of our pages. Of course, Casper Todd has already drooled & slobbered on our mew wand toy.

Thanks again for sharing our special days with us. Proverbs 27:9 says “A sweet friendship refreshes the soul.” So true!

Top Reasons To Keep Cats Indoors – Part 2 (from cats.about.com)

Next to declawing, the indoor-outdoor question is probably one of the hottest topics for debate, with both sides polarized to their own views. For those holdouts for letting cats roam free, consider more top reasons to keep cats indoors.

• Indoor Cats Do Not Get Hit by Cars. According to one source, more cats are killed by cars annually than are euthanized in U.S. animal shelters.

• Indoor Cats Are not a Danger to Wildlife. Let's face it; cats are predators, & left to their own devices outdoors, will eventually chase & kill birds, rabbits, & other small wildlife. Most of us would rather not see our cats cast in a killer role, & keeping them indoors will help protect wildlife to some degree.

• Indoor Cats Don't Get Lost. As outdoor cats widen their outdoor territories, they may become lost long enough to be "rescued" by other cat lovers, legitimate rescue groups, or picked up by animal control as strays. Statistics show that of "owned" cats turned in to shelters, only three percent are eventually relocated with their owners. Collars can break, & even microchips do not guarantee a cat will not be adopted & kept as an indoor cat by someone else. Why take the chance?

• Indoor Cats Are Not Stolen. “Bunchers” are people who sell cats to laboratories for animal experimentation or research. Their prime source of cats is on the street. Even a cat sitting on his front lawn is fair game for a buncher. Other people pick up cats for use as "bait" for training fighting dogs. Both categories of cat-knappers are the lowest of the low, but they are out there.

• Rarely mentioned, but equally serious, is the possibility of skin cancer from over-exposure to the sun. White & other light-colored cats can develop squamous cell carcinoma, a serious, painful disease.

I don't believe in wholesale statements beginning with, "If you love your cat, you'll do this & that for them." We humans feel different degrees of love for our cats & express our love in different ways. My stance on the indoor-outdoor issue is not "proof" one way or another of loving my cat more than the next guy, nor did my previous belief that cats deserve to be outdoors label me as a "bad" cat owner.

However, I do believe in personal responsibility for our decisions, & ultimately, our decisions may cost us the loss of a very good friend & family member. It's a matter of weighing the benefits against the risks, & being willing to suffer the consequences of our decisions.

Just be safe my furiend. My Mom says thinking of Whitey and Orangie outside has given her more than her share of gray hairs! I just have to blog you part 2 though. There is a scary note about people called "bunchers" who steal cats for profit!

My Mom must not have been reading the cat-signs from Whitey very well this morning, because Whitey got tired of Mom’s petting and she let Mom have it with both paws! Ouch! Mom knew it was her fault for not paying attention more, but she had been distracted with Orangie’s playing Sniff and Run with Mom. Mom was laughing at his antics and didn’t notice Whitey was getting annoyed! MOL! Us cats have to keep these humans on their toes!

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the recent tornado outbreaks.

MICE CREAM, I NEED SOME MICE CREAM!! Oh, oops, Sorry for shouting buddy it's just it's been so hot and muggy here I need something to cool me down. On the other hand, it's not suppose to be 90 degrees in S.E. Michigan in May. At least we haven't had any bad storms (yet) like those unfortunate people in Oklahoma. Such horrible destruction!

Us kitties have been stuck in the house cause of the heat. Well, actually, Timothy and Kieara have gotten out in the early morning before it gets hot but not me. How unfair is that!

Momma and Timothy's poppa are planning on seeing some more houses later this week. They want to find one soon. To be honest, momma is getting tired of looking and just wants the whole thing to be settled.

There are a lot of, what momma calls, "little" lakes up where she and Timothy's poppa are house-hunting. By "little" she means they're smaller than any of the Great Lakes. MOL. Maybe I'll get her to buy me a small boat and we can practice our sailing skills. What do you think?

Starting on Wednesday, momma will be taking care of our neighbor kitty, Precious. She'll be taking care of her for about a week while Precious' pawrents are out-of-town. HEY, did I say that was OK for her to do? Geeze!

How is your furless kitten doing? Say, I love her Maize N' Blue outfit she has on in one of the pictures. MOL.(Sorry buddy, I couldn't help myself). It looks like she might be thinking of helping your momma with the gardening. I hope your sisters are doing a good job of helping to baby sit.

Well, I'm going to see if Kieara wants to go out for some mice cream. Timothy already left to get his. Do you want me to send you any? Momma has already had one of her Edey fruit bars. Has your momma ever tried those. Have a pawtastic Tuesday my friend.

How are you today.Was a nice day earlier for us but did get some rain and a loud thunder storm later.Glad we got to go out when mr.sun was out.Missy went out for a few minutes and lay in the sun,she got tired so mom brought her back in to nap,she is getting weaker but still eats ok,just sleeps lots.I got to explore in all my usual places,cheked out all the tall grass,nothing there,saw more of those ole worms all over,and the groundhogs hid in thier hole.There is a tree that I scratch my claws on every day as we go by,well I stopped real still and sat down looking up in the tree,I would not move,mom said Spongie what are you doing come on,then she looked and the tree was full of baby birds just learning to fly,they were way up in top flying all over the tree.mom bird was chatering really loud at us,she was mad mom said,me,mom watched the little things ,they were so cute,mom could not tell what kind they were,I said hi little birdies come closer so I can see you,but they did not,hehe!I was sitting on one side, Oreo watching them on the other,Oreo was looking up, did not see me and came around the tree right into me,well we sure had a wacking contest,guess I wacked to hard and he ran,mom said stop it right now both of you,you scared the baby birds,and mom bird might fly down and peck you all over,well mom Oreo was looing in my tree!Mom said come on Spongie,I need to go sit down,nope not comming,she pulled,tugged on my lead and I lay flat down,I was not leaving MY birdie tree,well mom had to pick me up and carry me away from that tree,can't have any fun here,she called me a little stubborn stinker!she put me down and I ate some grass,then we sat down for a little while,I pouted at mom for a few minutes and would not look at her,she took me from my birdie tree,then I chased a butTerfly it got away,then I sneaked up and lay beside mom,she gave me a hug,and I gave her a big ole headbutt and we just sat there for awhile looking all around,mom said lets go Spongie the worms are invading our sitting place so we went in,ole worms,mom sure checked her socks,hair,clothes and me to make sure there were no worms on us.I checkd out all through the house all ok,then I lay down and pushed he condo across the floor,got mr.innertube and went to rest with mom,gave her a kitty kiss right on her nose,she said you better not bite me little man,hehe.Then it got real dark and started pourng rain and then it stormed,the thunder was really loud,I got close to mom as I could,Wicket on the other side,Baby came racing in the room and got on moms tummy,Cindell,Missy just kept napping,ole scary thunder!Now I'm on napping on the cat tree,well with one eye open staring at mom,Baby,Missy,Wicket napping,Cindell looking out the window,uh oh,its geting really stormy looking again,guess we better wake up and go hide,pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.

Many cat lovers are now savvy that indoor cats are safer cats, while others still think that cats deserve freedom to run in the great outdoors. When humans domesticated cats, we took on the responsibility for their health & welfare. Part of that responsibility is to keep cats safe & in good health. For those holdouts for letting cats roam free, consider these top reasons to keep cats indoors.

• To Monitor Your Cat’s Urinary Tract/Bowel Health. With an outdoor cat, pet owners are unable to monitor painful attempts to urinate or poop. The first, a red flag warning for UTI or urinary tract blockage; the second, a red flag for constipation, bowel blockage or mega-colon.

• Indoor Cats Are Safe From Predators & Dog Packs. Outdoor cats are below predators in the food chain, & they are sitting ducks for owls, raptors, coyotes, & native big cats. Dogs running in packs will consider a cat fair game; even one large dog can easily overpower & kill a cat. Remember that some dogs are also bred to attack; they are not really to blame when their instinct takes over. Even with a full set of fangs & claws, the cat rarely has a chance when caught outside.

• Indoor Cats Don't Create Neighbor Problems. Even "well-bred" cats will venture into neighbors' yards when allowed to roam free. People who don't like cats will not tolerate cats using their gardens as litter boxes, & will sometimes resort to extreme measures to keep the cats out.

• Indoor Cats Rarely Get Abscesses From Fighting. Cats are very territorial & will defend their territory to the death, if challenged by another cat. At the very least, these territorial battles often result in abscessed wounds, which can be deadly if not treated in time. There's also the chance, of course, of cats contracting FIV from deep bite wounds.

• Indoor Cats Are Safe From Human Abuse. Freely-roaming cats are easy targets for gangs of youths with time on their hands, for cat-haters, who seek cats out for target practice, & for neighbors who would think nothing of killing a cat for trespassing on their property. Although animal protection laws are beefing up, prosecution will never bring a loved cat back to life.

• Indoor Cats Can Get Plenty of Exercise. Cats do get exercise, but they can get it safely with interactive toys, climbing towers, scratching posts, & other indoor toys; all much safer than running from dogs or fighting with other cats. Remember also that there are safe compromises for the outdoor experience.

well mom had to work on her mother's day, so she only celebrated in her dreams. glad your mom had a great one. sure is weird the weather huh. we see you and the furless kitty are competing in the cutest photos, you need some cute outfits like her though. we have been in the 80' but rain every other day. mom not been on CC for she been sleeping from the OT then had this weekend off and chillin.. hope to get back to blogging soon, going to try and catch up while watching movies. so moms been working out on a regular and doing her zumba so we just been keeping mom company while she sleeps. so you have a blessed day prayers to all who need, headbonks hugs/kisses salami catnip angle marley/mom/wonderful tigger

♥ Well, the Yard Sale is over til after the first of June, but not the work for mom and dad as they will still be going thru the storage shed next with throwing things away and saving things for the next sale!!!! The last two days of the sale never even made $40 for both days!!!!

♥ Mom and dad has been doing a bunch of weeding in the front yard in between customers during the sale and rain. Today, mom went in the back yard and scooped out the big 3X5 (used to be 5X5) sand`litter box then she got her new weedeater assembled, as she had to take the other one back to Wal*Mart then went to Lowes and got one there instead. She got the front yard weedeated then she mowed the front yard.

♥ Mom did open dad's bedroom window this morning so we could be out in the cattery. It was nice getting the fresh air.

How are you today.Was a nice day for us,but raining now.Good thing mom got me out earlier.Did my usual exploring,nothing under the mousey bushes except those ugly worms crawling all over.I like to get next to the tall grass,then jump way over in it and start digging,grass,dirt goes all over,mom never sees anything there,guess I just like doing that,hehe!Groundhogs saw us comming and off they went in all directions,mom laughs at how fast they run,I just waved my paw at them as they streaked by us.We go by thier hole to my tall grass and Oreo still will not get close there,the mom groundhog must have chased him or something.I ate grass,gotta have my grass to make strong kitty muscles,hehe.Made all my rounds in the yard,then mom had to sit for awhile,I lay beside her,there is little white blooms on one of the bushes over where we sit and the blooms were falling all over us,they were all in my fur.Then mom said time to go in,when she gets up and gathers up her cushions and ole cane I know I have to go in,so in we came,I shook my fur and all those blossoms flew all over the floor,so here comes ole mr.broom out of the close and I got out of his way,I do not like that ole broom at all!Then I heard mom muttering,she had pulled off her shoe and there was one of those worms crawling on her sock,well she sure was moving to get it off and threw it back out in the yard,hehe,she sure had a funny look on her face,I heard her say ole worms.Made my rounds through the house all ok,ate my food,then went to my toy rug in front of the door and bathed myself to get all those ole blooms off me,mom came to make sure none of those worms had stuck to my fur,ole worms.Then I took mr.innertube and went to rest with mom for a litle while,I snuggle right by her shoulder and lay my head on her arm,she gave me a kiss,me Wicket ate our treats and then I napped.Now I'm laying on the cat tree watching the rain,Baby looking out the widnow,Wicket is hid in the kitty cube,its dark out and he thinks its going to thunder,Missy,Cindell napping.Did you all get to go out today,hope you did not have any of the storms there.Thas so sweet that furless kitten is giving you all treats and trying to pet you on the head,thats great that you all are getting used to her,she is such a cutie!Sammy hop on your magic carpet and zip on over and we can go bug hunting and exploring outside,that will be fun,pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.

The outside kitties are doing fine. Mom spends more time with them than she does with us! Just kidding. But it does seem like that sometimes. After they are finished eating, Callie and I are always waiting to run into the garage to see what went on in there. Mom thinks we will be fine when we finally do meet face to face!

I plead the 5th!!!
Just because the catnip plant is TOTALLY gone,and uprooted,does NOT mean it was ME!!! I was sitting quietly,by the side of the garden,trying to figure out the scene of the crime myself! OK,so I had a touch of dirt by my mouth. I was.....sniffing...yeah,that's it.
Well,I had 4 blissful hours to myself today Sammy.The dog was gone. Getting a pooch haircut. Thank goodness. Now I ca see her beady little dog eyes,and I KNOW when she is looking longingly at my food bowl. Dumb mutt. All good things come to an end,and Gma went and brought the thing home. I voted for leaving her there. I';m sure even the groomer wouldn't want the little slobbery thing.
IDK Sammy,I think Mallow's shirts and idea was hysterical! I know,you have sisters and the such to make you never live it down,but it was cracking me up watching everyone try to do the headless chicken dance! Lets go teach it to the furless kitten. She should be real good at that flapping stuff :)

This morning my Mom was with the outside kitties for over an hour. I was getting pretty tired of waiting! Mom sat on the floor again, to get to eye level with the outside cats, and Whitey really likes this. Whitey kept rubbing her face all over Mom & purring. Mom’s clothes were covered in fur! Callie and I were quick to check it out and sniff to see whom she had been with. MOL!
Orangie was reluctant at first, but then would sneak behind Mom, sniff her and then go running away. Mom didn’t move and Orangie kept coming back like it was a game. Sniff and Run! Afterwards the kitties ate, not really noticing any scents from Callie and me. (I really think I need to spray that cat carrier. MOL!) Mom says this was a good morning. :)

Furless kitten is surely growing! Beautiful pics! Yeah, mom and dad have been out of town since Tuesday but they're supposed to return home tonight. The secretary has been using the phone in place of her computer as she didn't wanna pay $25/day for internet. Due to mom's frugal ways, we have not been on the CC much this week. Hope that the weather has warmed up--looks like you might have some bad storms this weekend? Currently, it's dry at the cathouse but it's been pouring where mom and dad are. Mom had planned on loading up the truck while dad was in class but the truck is parked way down one hill and way up another steep hill and it's raining cats and dogs...MOL..so mom hasn't gotten very far with the packing. Anyway, hope all is well with your family...should come over and get you out of the house for a bit....I'm ready to blast off, are you?

So, you all behaved on Mother's Day? You're pulling my leg! MOL!

We've had some gorgeous weather this week, in the low 70's with a slight breeze, and even some rain. Mom is loving it! She's been doing a little puttering in the yard, and is planning some major trimming this weekend if it doesn't rain. But if it DOES rain then she's going to fertilize the grass. So it looks like a win-win weekend! Who can ask for more!

A Word With Whiskers – May 17

I’ll never be sure if it was wisdom or folly that struck that day, but I would think a little of both. We had been happily living with one cat for a couple of years, a fairly large black-&-white English Shorthair named Smedley. It was time for his annual exam & shots, so off we went to our local veterinarian’s office, puss in hand, or actually wrapped like up like an Egyptian mummy to save us from his dreaded claws.

“Ah!” Doc Pete said, with a twinkle in his eyes. “I’m glad you dropped in. I have a kitten out back that needs a home & I thought of you!”

Before I could stop him, his assistant brought out the tiniest marmalade tabby, weighing just over a pound, with a cast on his left front leg. He put him in my arms, looked up at me & said, “So what do you think?”

They say a sucker is born every minute & that was my minute. We took one look at the poor little thing & then at each other & we were done for. We found out that someone had broken his leg & tried to drown him in the nearest canal. A Good Samaritan had rescued him & brought him to the vet’s office.

“How will they get along?” I asked. “How do we go about introducing them to each other?”
“Oh, that’s no problem,” he said. “You just put him in a carrier, take him home, leave the carrier open & let Smedley think he is rescuing the kitten.”

Well, it sounded good. As per instruction, once we got home, we left the kitten in the carrier in the middle of the room. Then we sat back to watch. Smedley circled the box & growled deeper than I had ever heard him before. The kitten mewed plaintively while sticking a paw out of the holes in the side of the carrier. After about an hour, we decided to open the top of the carrier a little wider. Smedley walked up to the top, looked inside & was rewarded by a lightning strike from a small orange paw.

That was the last we saw of him that evening. I was convinced that the next morning would find us back at the vet’s office returning the little tyke. However, the next morning, we were in for a surprise. As I got up to put on the coffee, I saw the two of them curled up together on the sofa as if they were one cat with two smiling faces. From then on, Smedley watched over the little one as if he had given birth to him, and they went everywhere together.

How are you today.Has been cloudy today and a little cooler here,so I got to explore more since the hot sun was not out.Missy did not want to go out,she stayed in to nap.Checked out my mousey bushes,the tall grass,I love sticking my head in that grass and looking around,saw a bug and tried to dig it out but it got away,then I ate some grass,and mom said watch out,here comes a groundhog,it was running fast around the buiding getting to its hole,we must have scared them,they sure can run fast!I shook my paw at him and keep on eating grass,they better not get in my grass hehe!Saw one of the outside kittys sleeping in the grass,I wanted to go say hi but mom said I don't think she wants a wack on the head Spongie.On we went,you cannot even walk through the grass for all those ugly worms all over,sure be glad when they are gone,ole ugly worms.Then we had to sit down for awhile mom got tired,I lay in the grass and looked around,Oreo lay far away from me today,hehe,Then I lay beside mom and played with a stick,then one of those ole worms was crawling right at me,I sure got up fast.Then mom said time to go in,I did not want to go so I lay down and when mom tried to get me up I slipped out of part of my harness,mom said Spongie now look what you did,you little stinker,she finaly got it back on me,I was hissing,growling really loud at mom,she said you better stop that before I wack your little furry behind for you,ole harness,ole cane looked at me and I got up and came in.Ate my food,then went and got in the open window and pouted awhile.Mom went to rest and I got mr.innertube and went to lay with her,she said well I see you are not pouting at me anymore,I gave her a big ole kitty kiss on her head,she gave me a big ole hug,then I ate my treats,napped beside mom for awhile.Moms ole tummy is still not all better yet,still on jello,soup,I said mom have some of my treats,that will help,hehe!Now I'm sitting in the window in the fresh air eating more treats,gotta have my treats so I can stay big strong to go out exploring!Wicket,Cindell,Missy naping,Baby looking out the window at a pretty red bird sitting in a bush.Mom said thanks for thinking of her,that sure helps.Did you get to go outside today,hope the weather is better for you all there.Did mom get all her garden planted,does she plant a big garden,mom said there was nothing no better that fresh home grown veggies,pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.

What’s mew with you? I have WONDERFUL mews!!!! Dr. William called - my T4 by equilibrium dialysis thyroid test was NEGATIVE!!!! Thankfully that means I do not have hyperthyroidism.

I have decided that I really do not like to eat the Prescription Diet k/d canned food. I will eat the k/d dry but not the canned food. So Mommy has been busy researching other canned foods with low protein (less than 10%) for me. The crazy woman is also studying our food labels. Do I read the labels on all that junk SHE eats???

Tonight is my last dose of that nasty Clavamox for the UTI. After I have been off it for four days, Mommy will take my urine sample to Dr. William to be rechecked. Hopefully the UTI will be all gone.

Mommy & Nana have a meeting scheduled with Dr. William @ 9 a.m. this Caturday as they have a growing list of questions & concerns. Poor Doc! You would think they love me or something!!!

The saga of our outside kitties continues… My Mom lifted the top half of the cat carrier onto several old newspaper crates and set it beside the bottom half of the carrier. Whitey & Orangie were curious this morning when they saw it, but not afraid. They both sniffed around it and then went back to the business of eating. Mom plans to slowly slide the top half of the carrier onto the bottom half. This was a great idea from our dear furiend Mischief!

P.S. You know, the outside kitties didn't seem to react to our scent on the carrier. I think they were too busy wondering what the top half of the carrier was doing raised up on boxes. My Mom is going to let my sis and I check it out again today. I don't think I'll be able to sneak a quick spray, because Mom will be watching! MOL!

101 degrees! I wouldn't want to go out in that, either. We had some nice warm days, but nothing like THAT! We've had a lot of jumping around, too. Sounds like your Mom has been busy out there, that's great that she got the planting finished. Now the weeding comes, yuck!

Our Mom was by herself pretty much on Mothers Day, too. Well, with US, anyway. She likes it that way, too, it was nice and peaceful. Glad you liked the "Lessons from Mom." -- Mallow

We had a nice Mother's Day and it's good to hear you gave your Mom the day off. I can't hardly believe it got up to that high a temperature for you today! In NB? That's incredible! We had a high today of only 98*, so you beat us. But a few days ago we had 103* and we have 102* predicted for tomorrow. We just by-passed spring, too.
