How We Met

When Brainy was little, a mountain lion started picking off his whole family one by one. Brainy was caught one day and his mommy went to his rescue! The mountain lion killed his mommy but Brainy got away. However, he was near death, limping with two holes on his head; the result of the mountain lion's fangs through his skull! His right eye was severely damaged and several of his teeth were missing or broken. He was hardly moving but he managed to drag himself to me, as if knowing that I would take care of him. I took him home and brought him to the vet who told me that his chances of living were not good. His brains were leaking out of the top hole in his head and the vet told me that if he did survive, he would have problems, mentally. My friends who saw him all thought that he would die in about 3 days. It was touch and go but I kept the faith and he slowly recovered. A few months later, after he was fully recovered, his tail got almost severed. He limped back to me although I did not know it till 3 days later. I was trying to move him, wondering why he was sleeping so soundly when I lifted him and to my shock, there was blood all over my hands! I rushed him to the vet and after much deliberation; they finally had to amputate his tail. Poor Brainy had already been through so much that I could feel his pain just looking at him. Now he is fully recovered and playful as a kitten although he still has one bad eye and looks a little lopsided but I think that's what makes him special! I am so glad that I took him home and I never regretted the decision! It pains me to think of his mommy but at least I saved the only one in the litter left. I did go back the next day and chased the mountain lion off. I didn't hurt the mountain lion but he's never returned.
