I am Domestic Longhair from Vista, CA
Nicknames: I have served several Kings and Queens recently, and I was given the title Dame Cherish. Then the most wonderful thing happened ... I was chosen Queen for March 2012 and given a crown and a castle where all my dear furriends came to visit. Now I am back to being Mom's kitty, but living the high life on a Round-The-World cruise.

Education: I was COTD on 10-8-2007, and again on 3-18-2011. I also received CROTD on 3-8-2011. I then served CC as Queen for March 2012; during that period, on March 19, 2012, I also was voted COTD & CROTD. Wow, were we surprised! As for special abilities, I have developed my own little 'words' for my treats and will ask for them by name. Mom is smart; she always knows what I am saying.
My favorite tricks and treats are: Tricks? Am I a dog? I usually come when I am called (okay, dog thing), but I do NOT do tricks. I look pretty; isn't that enough? and My Mommy gives me a small piece of very crisp bacon - maybe once every two or three months. Otherwise, I get my chicken-flavore- d kitty treats. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. I also like little tiny pieces of chicken and cheddar cheese. Did I mention I'm fussy?
Where I hang out: I love lying in the sun by the window, watching the birds at the feeders. OR anyplace Mom happens to be. Mom says I'm her furry little girl friend. She put more pictures of me at the bottom of this page. Check them out.
My favorite grubs: I eat Iams adult dry food and Iams adult wet food - a very small portion of the last each day. ONLY CHICKEN FLAVOR. And, of course, chicken flavored cat treats. I'm a fussy girl but Mom said it's a good thing. When kitties were getting sick from their food, I didn't because I won't eat those things. Guess being fussy can be a really good thing, right?
My pet peeves: I avoid company and I really dislike loud noises.
What I love about my owners: My mommy loves me and lets me cuddle with her. She also lets me watch all the birds from a safe place inside the house. She says it's safe for me, but it's also safe for the birds, right?
My cat hobbies: I like to watch the birds, sleep, and cuddle with Mom.
Pet motto: Never waste a sunny spot when it's nap time.

How We Met
My mom prayed for the right cat, then when she was allowed to have a cat at her apartment she headed to the private shelter where she volunteered. I had just come in and was very afraid and hiding under the contents of my enclosure. My mom took everything out of the cage and put her hand over my back. I immediately raised up into her hand and boy that felt good. Mom put in adoption papers and took me home a few hours later.

My Mom just came inside from washing my powder room. Her hair got wet from the cold rain, so she turned on the heater to dry herself and warm up. I need to find where the sun has been hiding from us. But before that, I need more catnap. tee-hee.

A Word With Whiskers – May 23
5 Tips for a Slimmer, Healthier Cat – (petmd.com)

Being a fat cat might seem cute, but it’s really not good for your feline’s health. If your kitty is a little chubby or beginning to look that way, we have some simple tips to guarantee a slender, healthier version in no time. And best of all, if you keep following these tips, you won't have to spend the big bucks it takes to feed a fat cat!
1. Diets Are Not All Equal
The cat is a strict carnivore. That means a diet mainly consisting of "fillers" (e.g., corn and rice), is just empty calories for kitty. Do a little light reading during your shopping expedition, and start paying attention to the cat food labels. Meat should always be one of the first ingredients. Better quality food means less filler and that means a more svelte cat.
2. Wet vs. Dry Debate
Some people swear by dry food, while others won’t touch it. Ultimately the choice is up to you, but you’ll find more and more experts are leaning towards the wet food end of the argument. Less filler, more water content, and a happier, thinner cat can all be yours.
3. Portion Control
Try not to "free feed" the cat. If the food is left out all day for the kitty to help herself to, then she’ll snack whenever she feels like it -- even when she’s not hungry. Engage the hunter instinct. Leave the food for 15 minutes. If there’s still food in the bowl, put it away in the fridge for dinnertime.
4. Exercise
Play with your cat! Get her to run around and chase string, toy mice, laser lights (cats love them!), balls, and other fun toys. We don’t recommend taking kitty for walks unless she’s the type who enjoys it, though. But just 20 minutes of play a day can make up for it. Not only will this keep kitty from being bored and depressed, but it keeps her mind sharp.
5. No Table Scraps
People food is for people, not cats! Those little morsels are similar to us scarfing down a pizza. So, curtail table scraps from your cat's diet, and those treats designed for cats down to a minimum. But if Princess absolutely cannot go without her treats, try to find healthy options in the natural or holistic section of your pet store.
So there you have it. 5 simple tips to keep your cat in tip-top shape.

Um, you will have to forgive me for chickening out for the skydiving. I am pretty much scared of my own shadow, and it was just a little too frightening for me. I know we cats are supposed to have 9 lives, but I just didn't want to take the chance, if you know what I mean. Maybe I will be a little braver on the next outing.

Pawsome days in Oahu Cherish!!
Thanks for bringing us along sweet furiend!
I had planned on doing some blogging yesterday but my brother Zaboo wasn't feeling well so stayed cuddled on mom's lap almost the entire day. He was a BAD boy that was caught nibbling at Sammie dog's food & anyone that knows Zaboo knows he's not supposed to do that! I say we need to get kitty pawcuffs for him because he can open the dog's kennel,or any door if it doesn't get latched. Needless to say his tummy was upset the whole day & he was also barfy three times. He's doing fine today though & mom made sure the kennel is securely latched so he can't repeat his bad behavior again. What are we going to do with that boy? He's too smart for his own good at times & also stubborn as a mule! I've tried whacking him when I see him getting into things & so has Trixie but he yowls at us & stands up to his full height to show how big & bad he'll become if we continue to harass him! Talk about a brat...MOL!!! I hate it when he feels bad & always snuggle, clean & comfort him because he's my best kitty furiend but he definitely put a kink in my tail when he prevented me from blogging yesterday! Oh well...what's done is done & today is another day!
Joseph gets a HUGE paws up from me!! He caught a mouse that was trying to get inside yesterday. Pretty pawsome achievement for a kitty with very limited vision! It was really cute when he was done playing with it too. He carefully carried it to the porch (he'd been playing in the grass) & dropped it, then he climbed up to the window & meowed at mom...MOL! She went outside & loved on him while telling him what a good boy he was then gave him a can of FF as a reward! Gold star day for sweet Jo Jo yesterday!!!
Trixie & Fluffernut are being wild & crazy chasing each other, wrestling & boxing today. I just heard Trixie hiss so Fluffers must have made contact...MOL! Our Trixie may be a sweetheart but she's also got a lot of impish behavior & cyclonic action that comes out full force when she & Fluffers start romping! Fluffers is also quite the little imp herself but she's never gotten the best of our calico cyclone & probably never will since Trixie is the queen of chaos..MOL! Zaboo & I are lounging around not doing anything except for an occasional glare at our little sisters. YAWN...it's one of those days so will stop meowing at you now & get back to the serious business of napping...MOL!

Heck yes I'll sky dive with you! Oh....wait,I get it,you can't wait to get that strap tight across my mouth-thats it,isn't it! I'll even try to keep my eyes open this time,and I won't scream "we're all gonna die" too loudly. Can we take in the polo after that?? I love riding horses! Only thing...I can never find where to put in the key and turn it on. The horse just stand there,looking at me....probably assessing what a cat tastes like....Ok,what do we say..bombs away?? One,two,three jump..nope ..wait...not ready yet,can't rush these things...had my eyes shut that time....

Your description of skydiving is spot on. It's something I would love to do. But it almost gave my Mama a panic attack! MOL! She won't even get on a plane, much less jump out of one that's operating perfectly well. The photo of K. Mike and Lady Dolly is great! They are SO brave! I'll bet that the polo game is pretty rough. My Mama won some tickets to a polo match in Dallas, but it was for the week she was going to Mexico, so she missed it. I am so enjoying your reports of all the wonderful sights and things to do in Hawaii. I'm leaving you a vote and wishes for a blessed evening.

I was not expecting to do THAT today! But Lady Dolly and I are game, everyone did really well except for a few die-heard, um, cautious individuals shall we say? I think Tucker left claw marks on the plane! Check out Mallow's page, she & O.J. did a tandem jump too. Those two will try anything. The view was sure great from up there .. for those who were brave enough to have their eyes open that is, mol.
That polo match brought back memories of Q. Lola's reign, where she had us playing polo in Argentina. I think overall I prefer to watch the game. Hey Cherish!
Mom had her evaluation today for out-patient therapy. She was assigned a very nice youg lady. Mom is lookig forward to regainng full use of her knee. She got more exercises to do at home, twice a day. And will go to the clinic three times a week for 4-6 weeks. Was another sunny hot day. Seems summer is here with 90* weather already. EUGENE, OREGON WEATHER REPORT:
The temperature was high 55 & low was 41 this morning, now it's 52 with humidity 71% & wind is 18 MPH SSW. Thursday's suppose to be Showers & High 58.

♥ On Monday morning, 5/20, momfolded 3 loads of laundry, then she mowed the back yard while dad loaded his truck with scrap wood to haul away. When mom was done she then helped dad with the second load of wood then they were going thru piles of metal, wire, nuts, bolts, etc to put in separate piles for the scrap yard and the garbage dump. That was a long hard and hot day!!!!
♥ On Tuesday, mom got a phone call from Pet Food Stamps letting mom know they received the proper paper work and will contact mom once they verify it all to let her know if we qualify. Mom's xcited about it!!!!
♥ This morning, after mom gave me my anxiety pill then fed me my Fancy Feast can food with MiraLax mixed in it, I ate it all up like I normally do then I went potty. Mom scooped out the litter boxes then when she came into dad's room to give Sassee 10605 her Dasuquin pills and seen someone got barfy on the floor and knew it was me cuz it was Fancy Feast and dry food. Mom checked me out and said to just rest which I do anytime I don't feel well. I did come out once this afternoon to get a few bites of the dry food then went back to dad's bed to sleep more.

Weeeeee....I thought that I had a fear of heights and speed but I guess not? Wow, today was a thrill...better than riding Exit's rocket ship!!!

Thank you for the Pearl Harbor tour and reminding us of the lives that were sacrificed in order for us to have freedom and peace. My mom joined the Women's Marine Corp Auxillary about 3 years ago and does fund raisers to help the veterans, not just the Marines and we also take Christmas presents to the veterans in the VA hospital in Phoenix among other things. She joined them in order to honor her Marine son who passed 4 years ago. It's very rewarding, she says.

hhhheeeee i keep gettin my foots tangled up in that grass skirt
wow we had some more nasty storms at home last night and it got one of our outlets that has a breaker and all the outlets on one side of the kitchen dont work and momma had to pull the fridge out and run a heavy drop cord to it.
momma also said she saw on the news this morning that a lady in oklahoma foune her two precious kitties after searching the debris for hours. one has a broken leg and the other is just fine. sure did put a big smile on momma's face
momma ordered and inspiron 15.6" with touch screen from dell. sure hope she likes it and it gets here soon so we can get to our hockey games again before playoffs are over.

A Word With Whiskers – May 22
MIDNIGHT & STAY AWHILE – by A. Knight

“Molly’s cat died,” said Denise’s tearful voice on the phone. “Midnight was hit by a car.” Molly, Denise & I had been friends for 10 years & we all loved Midnight.
Denise explained Midnight had somehow gotten out of Molly’s house & a car had hit him. A neighbor had found Midnight, put him in a box & taken him to Molly. Molly & Midnight had been together for 18 years. My own cat had recently died from old age & I was crushed.
“Let’s go to her house & have a little funeral service,” I suggested. “I’ll pick up flowers & make a little cross with Midnight’s name on it.”
We decided to meet at Molly’s house. I stopped by the flower shop to pick up a bouquet of daises. There was a pet store on the way & I thought they might have an appropriate sympathy card. In the shop was a small gray & black kitten in a cage. It was too soon to get Molly a kitten. You can’t just replace one cat with another as if it were a broken dish. Not yet. The kitten tried to climb over his cage to reach me & did a back flip, making me laugh.
“He’s cute, isn’t he? I don’t know why no one has bought him yet,” the storeowner said. “I guess he is going to stay awhile.”
“Stay Awhile.” I smiled. He had just been named. “I’ll buy him & the cat carrier too.”
If Molly didn’t want a kitten, I would keep him. As I drove to Molly’s, the kitten meowed loudly.
“Be quiet, Stay Awhile, you’re going to mend a broken heart today,” I said, hoping Molly would accept the kitten. Denise & Molly were waiting for me.
“Molly, I know I shouldn’t have done this, but I saw this kitten & couldn’t help myself. I know he can’t replace Midnight, but if you don’t want him, I’ll keep him. His name is Stay Awhile,” I said.
“Stay Awhile? What a silly, delightful name!” She kissed the kitten’s nose. “Of course I’ll keep him. I couldn’t bear one night not having a cat in the house.”
“We should probably-you know-bury Midnight now,” Denise said.
We solemnly dug a grave in the garden & gently placed the box in, covered it up & placed the flowers & little wooden cross into the earth.
Suddenly, a cat leaped over the fence & landed at our feet.
“MIDNIGHT!” we all screamed. Molly grabbed the black cat & lifted him up. “It’s Midnight!” She burst into tears of joy.
“Molly, didn’t you look into the box the neighbor gave you?”
Molly replied, “No, I couldn’t stand to see Midnight dead!” We all laughed hysterically. Some poor stray cat just had a 1st class funeral!
I was thrilled I could keep the kitten! A day that started with tears ended in laughter, thanks to a cat who came to his own funeral & a kitten named Stay Awhile. I bought Stay Awhile to help heal Molly’s broken heart, but instead he healed mine!

Ahhhh...what a sneaky one you are!!! To show my gratitude,I brought over left over weenies for breakfast! What-their great with scrambled eggs! Just blop some vanilla pudding over the top,your gold! Hi there! Glad to help. Ana and my wedding is on Saturday, June 22, 2013. Now the bad part -- Ana wanted a sunrise ceremony which would be 4:00AM her time in Amhurst, MA. So it would be 1:00AM your time and my time. I can understand if you can't make it, but if your Mom wants to set an alarm clock we would be ever so happy to have you there.
