WOW! That's quite some story, Nixon!
Mom can identify with your Dad about how precious you guys are. Mom was so hurt by our Pepper's passing, that she recently deleted Pepper's page from CC. Mom bottle raised our Angel Pepper from the time she was 3 weeks old. Pepper was born to a barn cat at the stable where Mom had her old horse (who is now also at the Rainbow Bridge). Pepper's momma was a little black barn cat and she died 10 days after giving birth to Pepper. Pepper starved for two days before the barn manager realized that Pepper's momma was dead. OUR mom got Pepper from the barn manager and bottle raised her. Mom nursed Pepper through a broken leg (she fell out of a tree and broke a back leg) when she was 5 months old and then carefully nursed her through a diagnosis of lymphoma of the digestive tract when Pepper was only 8 years old. When Mom brought me home, Pepper was 17 years old and I bonded to her as if she was MY momma! Pepper died just before this last Christmas (2009) at the age of 19 1/2. Mom, Dad and I were all devastated. I licked all the furr off the back of my front legs because of that stress...and I STILL haven't let it grow back. Mom says she lost her baby that day and I lost my fur-step-mommy. HA! You think my sissy is "purrfect"? MOL!
Let me tell you, she has her faults! MOL! First off, Mocha was THOUGHT to be a "champagne solid" when she was born, because she was a dark tannish color. That is why Mom named her Mocha. But as she grew, this odd gray color appeared and she got grayer and grayer until Mom actually had her DNA tested. Turns out she is a "platinum"..which is why part of her name is "Myst'ry"...her true color was a real "mystery"! So, we are not all so "purrfect". Now Piper...HE'S the color we all though Mocha was gonna be! But he's a different breed and Mom's hoping that he can be her show kitty. But so far, Piper has been listening to us too well. WE don't like cat shows and now Piper's been objecting. He was so rude at the last cat show, Mom withdrew him from competition after just 3 rings. But please don't think Mom is snooty about having pedigreed kitties. ALL of Mom's kitties prior to Mocha and Piper have been rescues. And Mom admits that she thinks rescues are THE BEST! :-) And so do I! Hmmmmmmmm. What an interesting name. Is that the name you came with from the shelter? Seems your family has far more kitties in the family than they have put up here on CC. I can understand why. Mom says that she has her hands full tryin to blog for us three kitties. She can't imagine trying to blog for more.
Since you came from a shelter, too, I just wanna say, isn't it GREAT to have a REAL LOVING home? I was adopted and then RETURNED, because I had an eye infection and my owner couldn't be bothered to take care of me. But then I found Mom! SHE didn't care that I had an eye infection. She had me taken care of and got it cleared up...and then when my jaw grew all weird, Mom STILL loved me! She says that my tooth just gives me character.
