My favorite tricks and treats are: she loves to retrieve toys; race up & down the hallway carrying her feather toy; she thinks she is very clever as she is not allowed on the counter when I am cooking, but I come home & find little paw prints all over the stove top!! where, many times a day!! and Sassy doesn't know right now
Where I hang out: on my bed, as you can see from her pictures & with her nose right on the screen door!!
My favorite grubs: fancy feast & IAMS
My pet peeves: noisy people & loud noises & Vacuums!!
What I love about my owners: she is very patient & let's me get away with everything; in her eyes, I can do no wrong!!!
My cat hobbies: lay on my lap & in front the fireplace & take up her part of the bed --- have a queen size now, might have to get a king!!

How We Met
I saw her picture online & adopted her from animal services. I had been searching for a special kitty, & when I found her, the Lord said that "this is the kitty I have chosen for you." Needless to say, she was an answer to prayer, a very special gift from above.
FAMILY HISTORY: As told by Angel Sir Lancelot, Knight of the Realm. The story goes that the original Duke, going back hundreds of years, was a warrior kitty & fought for the Crown in Ireland. During one campaign of severe fighting, captives were taken. One was the fair Princess Kathleen. She was a beautiful kitty, with flashing blue eyes & her fur was the colors of blue, silver, white & gray. The Duke was famous for his gold eyes & glossy raven black fur. He was a ruggedly handsome kitty & all the kittygirls would swoon if he even looked at them!! Anyway, Princess Kathleen & the Duke fell in love & through the centuries, their offspring ruled the lands of Devonshire. One day in the 1850s, the eldest son of the manor moved to America & brought the Duke of all the area's kitties with him. They settled in New York City & all was well down thru the years. In 1970, my father was born & became the next Duke. My mom, who was also the mom to the Duke Angel Missey Kitten, Angel Jazzy Mae, Sassy & Cinnamon, got the Duke as a 4 month old kitten from a decendant of the Duke who came over with the eldest son in the 1850s & passed the story of the Duke's heritage to mom. She had the Duke Missey Kitten for almost 15 years & after he died, I became the Duke, when I died, my son Moki became Duke, but he was not responsible & had no kitten to whom the title could pass. When he died, my daughter Angel Jazzy Mae had 2 daughters, Cinnamon & Sassy. Upon their marriage, their husbands can become Dukes if they so choose. So you see, Cinni reflects the colorings & blue eyes of the fair Princess Kathleen & Sassy has the golden eyes & raven black fur of the Duke, like I do & my sweet daughter Jazzy & my granddaughter Sassy.

A Word With Whiskers – May 18
Heaven Is...

A man was riding his horse down a road, cat in his arms & his dog by their side. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, & that his horse, cat & dog had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stonewall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, was a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. Standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch, made from mother of pearl, & the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He nudged the horse toward the gate, & as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk. Once close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, & I'll have some ice water brought right up."
The man gestured, & the gate began to open. "Can my furiends," gesturing downward towards his horse, cat & dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked. "I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept animals."
The man thought a moment & then turned his horse & dog back toward the road, cat in his arms & continued the way he had been going. At the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road which led through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree & reading a book. "Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water?"
"Sure, there's a pump over there" The man pointed to a place that couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in."
"How about my furiends here?" the traveler asked.
"There should be a bowl & a bucket by the pump."
They went through the gate, & sure enough, there was an old hand pump with a bowl & a bucket beside it. The traveler filled the bowl & took a long drink himself, then gave some to his cat & dog while he filled the bucket for his horse. When they all were satisfied, he led his furiends back toward the man who was standing by the tree waiting for them.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is heaven," was the answer.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street & pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"
"No. I can see how you might think so, but we're just happy that they screen out the folks who’d leave their best furiends behind."

Molokai
Serene seascapes, unspoiled coastlines, untamed wilderness. We visit Molokai & travel back to a timeless place. This is an island that stays true to its Hawaiian traditions - tucked away from the hustle of the outside world; where no building is taller than a coconut tree; there’s no traffic & no traffic lights; where you can feel the power of Hawaiian culture from an area near Maunaloa, said to be the birthplace of hula, to the natural wonders of Halawa Valley.
Molokai is only 38 miles long and 10 miles across at its widest point. It is a friendly & family-oriented island that has deep connections with its Hawaiian ancestors. Unlike the visitor industry on the larger Hawaiian Islands, Molokai has preserved its true Hawaiian culture. More than one third of this island's residents have over 50% Hawaiian blood. Molokai residents farm, fish, hunt & gather many of their basic needs & they enjoy this lifestyle. Here we need to slow down, be less demanding, & respect the Molokai way of life. Molokai is the real deal. We are visiting the true Hawaii. We will enjoy & respect Molokai & her people.
Lining the northeast coast are the towering cliffs of the North Shore Pali. At 3,600 to 3,900 feet from sea base to top, they are the tallest sea cliffs in the world; their near-vertical plunge ends 2000 feet below sea level. We step cautiously to the edge to peek over. Whoa, that’s a drop! Later in the day, we do some ocean kayaking along the face of the cliffs; this is amazing beyond belief! We also discover secret, secluded beaches, sea birds, & cascading waterfalls which provide incredible, photogenic scenery
We then hike into the East End’s classic cathedral valley to see Hawaii back in time. It is believed ancient Polynesians settled in lush Halawa Valley as early as 650 AD. This area, half a mile wide and three to four miles deep, and blessed with beautiful vistas and towering waterfalls, is one of the island's most historic areas. Roughly two miles up the trail is the impressive, double-tiered 250-foot Moa’ula Falls. If you’re considering taking a dip into the pool, drop a ti leaf into the water first. Hawaiian legend says that a giant moo (lizard) lives at the bottom of the pool. If the ti leaf sinks, the moo is in no mood for visitors. If the ti leaf floats, it’s safe to enter. Our ti leaves are forming a veritable flotilla, and we slip gratefully into the refreshing pool. Soon we are splashing and playing like … well, kitties.
We have been invited to a luau by the residents of a small village near Maunaloa, birthplace of the hulu. After dining on succulent roast pig, and all the tasty side dishes, we are given grass skirts to put on for a hula lesson. Soon we are dancing and telling the stories of the island, looking almost like natives.

A Word With Whiskers – May 17

I’ll never be sure if it was wisdom or folly that struck that day, but I would think a little of both. We had been happily living with one cat for a couple of years, a fairly large black-&-white English Shorthair named Smedley. It was time for his annual exam & shots, so off we went to our local veterinarian’s office, puss in hand, or actually wrapped like up like an Egyptian mummy to save us from his dreaded claws.
“Ah!” Doc Pete said, with a twinkle in his eyes. “I’m glad you dropped in. I have a kitten out back that needs a home & I thought of you!”
Before I could stop him, his assistant brought out the tiniest marmalade tabby, weighing just over a pound, with a cast on his left front leg. He put him in my arms, looked up at me & said, “So what do you think?”
They say a sucker is born every minute & that was my minute. We took one look at the poor little thing & then at each other & we were done for. We found out that someone had broken his leg & tried to drown him in the nearest canal. A Good Samaritan had rescued him & brought him to the vet’s office.
“How will they get along?” I asked. “How do we go about introducing them to each other?”
“Oh, that’s no problem,” he said. “You just put him in a carrier, take him home, leave the carrier open & let Smedley think he is rescuing the kitten.”
Well, it sounded good. As per instruction, once we got home, we left the kitten in the carrier in the middle of the room. Then we sat back to watch. Smedley circled the box & growled deeper than I had ever heard him before. The kitten mewed plaintively while sticking a paw out of the holes in the side of the carrier. After about an hour, we decided to open the top of the carrier a little wider. Smedley walked up to the top, looked inside & was rewarded by a lightning strike from a small orange paw.
That was the last we saw of him that evening. I was convinced that the next morning would find us back at the vet’s office returning the little tyke. However, the next morning, we were in for a surprise. As I got up to put on the coffee, I saw the two of them curled up together on the sofa as if they were one cat with two smiling faces. From then on, Smedley watched over the little one as if he had given birth to him, and they went everywhere together.
Doc Pete was right!

Hi Duchess Sassey
What a pretty kitty you are! I want to thank you for voting for me in the "girl kitty contest". I'm very greatful for your support. I heard your momma has cateracts in her eyes. Timothy's poppa had cateract surgery on his left eye last Friday. It seems the worst part of the surgery is that "you" can't bend down from the waist for a week. His were discovered last Fall and they waited till May to operate.

My Darling Sweet Sassy ♥
I am so, very deeply sorry for being MIA for so long. I know it's not fair to you and you don't deserve a husband that is always away. I know my mom has talked to yours explaining about why I am never online, but I still feel horrible. I love you very, very much and I will love you forever. To the moon and back. To infinity and beyond. I hope you know that. I will leave you a song in a blog after this one.
So we adopted a son? He blogged me, I will get back to him after I'm done blogging you. He is very handsome and I can't wait to do some fatherly stuff with him. How about wind surfing sweetheart? Hehe, I'm kidding, kidding! I wouldn't put him in danger like that. But can you tell me a little more about this handsome young man and how you came across him?
Mom is so excited for school to end. She has a lot of tests coming up and can't wait to get over all that stress! School seems so boring about how much she talks about it! I'm glad I don't have to go!

A Word With Whiskers – May 14
Ugly the Cat – author unknown

Everyone in the apartment complex I lived in knew who Ugly was. Ugly was the resident tomcat. Ugly loved three things in this world: fighting, eating garbage, and shall we say, love.
The combination of these things combined with a life spent outside had their effect on Ugly. He had only one eye, he was missing an ear and his left foot appeared to have been badly broken at one time, healing at an irregular angle. His tail was gone, leaving a small stub & he was covered with scabs. Humans reacted when they saw him with, “That’s one UGLY cat!”
All the children were warned not to touch him, the adults threw rocks at him, hosed him down when he tried to come in their homes, or shut his paws in the door when he would not leave. Ugly always had the same reaction. If you turned the hose on him, he would stand there, getting soaked until you gave up and quit. If you threw things at him, he would curl his lanky body around feet in forgiveness. If you ever picked him up he would immediately begin suckling on your shirt, earrings, whatever he could find.
One day Ugly shared his love with the neighbor’s huskies. They did not respond kindly, and Ugly was badly mauled. From my home I could hear his screams, and I tried to rush to his aid. By the time I got to where he was laying, it was apparent Ugly's sad life was almost at an end.
As I picked him up to carry him home, I could hear him wheezing and gasping. I must be hurting him terribly I thought. Then I felt a familiar tugging, sucking sensation on my ear- Ugly, in so much pain & suffering was trying to suckle my ear. I pulled him closer to me and he bumped the palm of my hand with his head. Then he turned his one golden eye towards me, and I could hear the distinct sound of purring. Even in the greatest pain, that ugly battled-scarred cat was asking only for a little affection, perhaps some compassion.
At that moment I thought Ugly was the most beautiful, loving creature I had ever seen. Ugly just looked up at me, completely trusting in me to relieve his pain.
Ugly died, nestled in my arms. I sat and held him for a long time afterwards, thinking about how one scarred, deformed little stray, could so alter my opinion about what it means to have true pureness of spirit, to love so totally and truly.
Many people want to be richer, more successful, well liked, beautiful; but for me, I will always try to be Ugly.

Hi Duchess Sassy!
Today is housecleaning day and we already saw Mom getting the mean ole vacuum cleaner out of the closet! Time to head for our safe spots in the backyard. The temperature was 90 degrees yesterday, so hopefully Mom finishes quickly so we can come back inside without all the housecleaning noise!
The outside kitties were fine this morning. A small, baby raccoon was eating from the dry food bowls, but Whitey & Orangie didn’t seem scared of him. They both came out of their Igloo when Mom opened the garage door and the raccoon went scurrying off. My Mom doesn’t like to chase baby raccoons away, but knows they could hurt the cats. :(
We hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday! Give your Mom a big hug for us and thank her for the bubbly!

EUGENE, OREGON WEATHER REPORT:
The temperature was high 77 & low was 40 this morning, now it's 77 with humidity 31% & wind is 14 MPH WSW. Monday's suppose to be Showers & High 66.

♥ Well, mom told Callie 239447 that she met her match!!!! Saturday morning mom just happened to look over at the end of the couch to see Sassee 10605 sitting on it, which mom thought was awfully strange cuz she never gets on that end table then she seen Callie hunkered down under the top shelf of the end table. Mom told Sassee to leave her alone then mom had to pry Callie out from under that shelf part!!!! That's the first time Callie's been scared. Mom told Callie not to mess with Sassee especially when Sassee's in pain!!!! Sassee is the ALPHA girl inside!!!! No one was hurt!!!!
♥ Mom opened dad's window after she finished her kitty chores so we could go out in the cattery. Funny thing is though, she had it boarded up with plywood as it's suppose to rain today and she didn't want everything getting wet. At least we got the fresh air as well as relaxing out there!!!!
♥ Mom and dad didn't do much xcept relaxed and watched a couple movies on tv then some recorded shows on the DVR.
♥ Mom took the first cuttings of two roses today from her rose bushes. One is of her Angel Face which has a beautiful fragrance and the other is Jacobs Coat.

gosh i have so missed my friends!!!!!!!!!
daddy is now starting week 4 without working as he paints houses and this weather is holding all that up for now so momma cant afford to get our home puter fixed till he gets back to working and she can only blog for us when at work and she dont want to get in trouble so our blogs will be few till home puter can be fixed.
we have had rain all weekend plus most of last week also and is bad cloudy today with dark clouds so it will probably rain again today.

We'll be by to pick you up at 0:dark thirty, Our Dreamline never exibited any problems with the battery systembut better safe than sorry. We'll be serving a breakfast meal to Queen Trixie en route to Wabash Indiana where she will pass the crown to Our new Queen Spunky. Following the coronation we will be taking Queen Spunky to the Castle and getting all of the guests back to their homes. We'll be using all of the pilots and most of the aircraft. Good evening my dear fur friend Sassy!! It was so good to receive kitty mail from you!! How have you been?...
My Mom is definitely runing my social life. MOL! Yes, my mischievous Mommy is always telling me she has to do this, she has to do that... She needs to understand she is MY secretary and that I need her to write my kitty blogs!! I´m happy she´s home this evening. I just jumped over her lap to make sure she is really going to write my letters. (Tee-hee!).
We had a nice weekend. Our parents visited a marriage of Peruvian friends as the lady was celebrating her birthday. Mom told us they had a great time and she kept on talking about all the yummy food in the pawty. Too bad we didn´t get any of it.
The weather was lovely and sunny although it rained on Saturday night. After the rain we noticed about some little bugs in our food dishes. Mommy said they were ants and that they come with the humid weather. Sally and me saw them and started to meow load to alert Mom. We wanted them away from OUR food. Momma was not happy about them either. She changed our food and moved our dishes to another place. Then she washed the floor with a nasty fluid and told us they were gone for good.
Mom and Dad are looking forward to Wednesday when they will be off work since we´re celebrating Labor´s Day.
I hope you all have a super purrfect Monday. I send you a huge bunch of kitty kisses and hugs...

How are you and your family today?? Ours is fine. We are having a really nice day today, got up near 60* with a small wind and lots of sunny skies. Mom let us outside and we have been in and out all day.
It is about time that the weather got warm, it's been so cold and rainy lately. Tomorrow will be near 70* and in the 70's on Sunday and into next week. BBQ time...
Mom went for a walk today. She went out to the store and got us some cat litter and she got milk, too. Tomorrow she will go to Kroger and buy us cat food...cheaper there then at a high priced party store.
MEWS: I am engaged. My b/f Elvis proposed to me after our hockey games last week. All the kitties in the arena were cheering for us. No wedding date set yet.

Oh yes, we are in the process of "cleaning" because of a celebration for my mom today. Dad does the heavy chores and mom tweaks. MOL. Actually mom and dad were stuch in Portland, Oregon on 9/11. They were stuck there because nothing was flying. Mom's week long seminar was cut short
as they went to visit the Japanese Gardens and mom bought a giant blueberry muffin(not usual for her)when they took a ride to the coast. She said "if the world is ending I'm off my diet!".MOL

Very sorry Mom has cataracts growing in both eyes. Sometimes it takes a long time until they are ripe to be removed. Glad her knee is better. Glad they caught the brothers responsible for the horrific explosions in Boston. too bad one is dead. Save the tax payers a boatload of cash! Well the rain finally came our way. Was coming down in buckets! Lots of wind & the rain was hitting the living room windown. Had some thunder & lightening too. But I am being brave. I did not run under the bed or climb inside the recliner. Sleeping on the seat of the recliner next to Mom. Sounds like the storm has calmed down some. Leaving a vote. Peace & love. No, dad hasn'r eaten any dog cookies! Hahhaa! I know the Pup-a-Roni you're talking abut. Our neighbor has a big container of "dog jerky" and mom laughed and told them it's a good thing we don't have that container at home, dad would eat one!
We are waiting for spring here with bated breath. It's nice this afternoon - after a chilly, windy morning with a little rain, it's warmed up to the mid 60's and the sun is out.
Aw, I'm sorry to hear abut Sam. But you never know, don't give up, he may pop up any moment and whisk you away on a second honeymoon! :) Wouldn't that be romantic? *sigh*
Mom was a goof and spent too much time in the yard a couple weeks ago and ended up a mess of aches and pains. She feels better now - just in time for the weather to get nice again and she can go hurt herself digging in the dirt some more. We keep telling her if she wants to dig in the dirt all she has to do is clean out litter boxes more often. MOL! Hugs and whisker tickles.

How are you today.Weather sure has been bad here today for us,it has poured rain all day with high winds,has been dark and gloomy all day,but have not had any storms yet,hope we don't tonight,but we are under a freeze warning for tonight,so guess it will get all the fruit trees and all that is blooming now.We have not got to go out at all today,so I have napped off,on so has the Gang.I did go down to my basemnt apartment to explore for awhile,when its rainy and I can't go out I go down there,I was gone so long mom yelled down and said what are you doing down there Spongie,oh nothing mom,looking for the basemnt monster,have not found him yet,but if I come racing up those staris really fast you better have the door open for me cause you know I found him and he is after me,hehe! Then mom yelled and said you bettr not be eating a spider or anything down there little man,but I did come back up licking my mouth,hehe.Carried mr.innertube around for awhile,ate lots of treats,mom keeps them all over the house for us,went from window to window watching the ole rain come down, so been a quiet day here,no excitemnt at all.Guess all the mousyes,bugs outside got all washed away.It was not quiet in here last night,mom had just got to sleep and something woke her up,she lay there to see what had woke her up,then wham,bang all through the house,she thought what in the world is that,she looked and saw that me,Wicket was sleeping in our spots on the bed with her,she knew that the noise was not from Missy,or Cindell,they never make any nosie,then it sounded like something running through the house,she got up and there went Baby racing by her,she was running,playing and making all kinds of nosie,mom said Baby what are you doing,I thought someone was trying to get in the house,so while we were all sleeping Baby was running,all through the house,when mom turned on the kitchen light,Baby was sitting on the table looking at mom as if to say well what are you doing up,hehe!I just woke up looked around and went right back to sleep,hehe.Took mom awhile to go back to sleep,cause all that noise sure scared her,becasue when she goes to bed we all usually go and go to sleep,guess Baby could not sleep and decided to play,hehe.Mom said she sure could tell the weather was chaning,the pain is pretty bad for her today,but supposed to be sunny again tomorrow but colder.Now I'm napping again on moms bed after having some treats,Wicket is on the other end,Missy,Cindell naping,Baby looking out the window,she better go to sleep tonight and not make all that nosie,cause I will have to use the ole wacking paw if she wakes me up tonight,hehe!Pawhugs,Spongie,Gang,Angels.Come visit me, Angel Gypsy,RIP My Sweet Angel Baby,I Love You, Angel Buddy,Love,Miss You Sweet Boy, "The Gang",Spongie's Siblings,Love,Miss You Buddy, Angel Rambo,I love and miss you my sweet angel boy, K. Good to hear from you! First of all, I must tell you my Mama and Daddy watch Pastor Prince on TV, I'm pretty sure. You know how confusing TV can be for us kitties. But the eye doctor said my Mama is getting cataracts, too. She's really afraid of the surgery! We are praying, too, for the victims of the Boston bombings and the fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas. You know, my Mama is originally from Texas and she has been right there in West before. Terrible tragedies! I think Spunky is doing a great job of catpaigning for COTM and our beautiful Queen Trixie is bringing us such wonderful stories. I hope your weather is good. And I don't blame your Mom. My Mama refuses to live under the threat of terrorism. Everything is in God's hands. She's seen the other side of terrorism, too. After the 9/11 tragedy, she saw people in Dallas rush in and destroy a Muslim mosque. How awful! Well, I hope you had a good day. I guess by "new format" you mean that our blogs are in the middle of the page and if we want to get to the log out button we have to move the page over or make everything smaller? Guess they just don't want us to log out! That happened a couple of mornings ago right in the middle of our blogs. Funny thing is, a lot were complaining about this same thing back in December when CC changed, and it wasn't doing it for us then. I'm just hoping it will disappear like it did for the kitties who complained about it then.
Dolly's Mom has already offered that mine can stay over if she needs to, but the drive isn't really that long, she should be fine. We'll see as it gets closer. I'm with you on the not living in fear, if you never know when these crazy humans could do things you might as well just keep enjoying your life. Just be common sense cautious like we all should be anyway.
Wow, a cat show. Cool! Mom's been to a couple of those here and they do sell some good things. You also get to see some nice kitties, Mom saw a 25 lb Maine Coon and even a purebred Somali at the last one she was at.
