About Me

Active within 1 Day

Hi! My name is Ammie

I am Domestic Longhair from North Port, FL

Nicknames: Ammie, Sweetheart, Angel, Mom's little girl, Ams, Ammie Jo, Miss Ammo

Age: 10 years old

Gender: F

Coat: long haired

Education: She's learning how to trust after a rough start in life.

COTD 7/24/2009 in Pittsburgh
COTD 5/1/2011 in Florida
COTD 5/13/12 - Thanks to all my furriends for the Special COTD Catpaign for Mother's Day

My favorite tricks and treats are: What are tricks? and None yet. Still exploring.

Where I hang out: None yet. Still exploring.

My favorite grubs: Purina Naturals

My pet peeves: Being petted around the behind and brushed.

What I love about my owners: She gave me a chance at a furever home.

My cat hobbies: Sitting on her first Mom's lap and purring. Her second Mom can't wait until that day happens for her!

Pet motto: Don't mess with me. AND.. A good furever home should be cherished.. Amaretto's letter to Santa - Dear Santa, Yesterday, I overheard two small humans talking about you. They said they had written you a letter asking for some gifts, and were excited that you would be visiting their homes to make your very special deliveries. I must admit, the whole thing sounded a bit farfetched – I had never heard anything like it in all my six years. There was something about large animals with horns that fly through the sky pulling a sleigh. The only animals I’ve seen walk on four feet like me. And I don’t know where the North Pole is, but I’ve lived at Animal Friends in the North Hills for nearly a year and a half now, so I figure maybe you’re close by. Yesterday, as I groomed my long gray and white fur and napped in my cage, I had a thought. If you can bring presents to good girls and boys, you might be able to help me. I’ll admit I do love kitty treats, and enjoy a good romp with a laser light. But do you know what I really want? A home of my own, with someone to love me. When the volunteers let me out of my cage to play, I love their company and rub up against them to tell them to pet me. And you won’t need mistletoe if you want to give me a holiday kiss. I’ve spent some time in foster care, and was so happy to be in a home. Instead of visions of sugarplums, thoughts of a loving, forever place to hang my stocking dance in my head. This holiday season, I’m hoping someone is looking for a loyal furry friend. Instead of delivering a present to me, I’d love to hitch a ride in your sleigh to my own special place, where I can give all my love to a someone with a quiet home and room in their heart for me. If you can find your way to Animal Friends, I’ll be waiting for you, and hoping to see you. We don’t have milk and cookies here, but I’ll take up a collection among my fellow residents and we’ll leave a pile of yummy cat treats for your reindeer. We’ll even promise not to hiss at them. So Santa, although I’ve had my doubts, I’m hoping that this year will bring a holiday miracle, not just for me, but for all the other homeless dogs, cats and bunnies here at Animal Friends. We’ll be waiting to hear hooves on the rooftop, and dreaming of warm laps and cuddling up on a cold winter day in a home of our own. Love, Amaretto P.S. Ammie's wish was granted twice!

How We Met

She was at the shelter for over a year and a half and reminded me of Hannibal. She was abused and seized, and needed a home where someone could be patient and work with her. I saw her letter to Santa in the shelter newsletter and it broke my heart. I knew I had to adopt her and give her a chance.

Her first Mom, Kathy S., passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011.

Ammie was adopted on April 21st. She started on her trip from Pittsburgh, PA to her new home on Monday, April 25 with the "Honeysuckle Hauling Company" with a 3-day stopover at the Kitty B&B-Atlanta, where she had a spa day! Ammie was treated to a new hairdo & pawdicure before continuing on to her new home. She arrived in North Port FL on Saturday April 30th, 2011, at 7:30pm.

**Ammie misses her brothers Bennie, Giovani, Indie & Kato, but she knows they will all be in touch with one another. Ammie also believes she is a "world" traveler, and I'm not going to tell her any different!

***Amaretto (#116191) was on CatChannel for 2 years 4 months & 6 days before her current profile was created.

HI Ammie
Day 23
We are headed for Seaworlds Aquatica water park. It use to be Knotts soak city. It’s only about 10-15 minutes away. We are going to have so much fun. The bus is going to leave at 10am this morning. Get your swimsuits ready and don’t furget the suntan lotion.
Dear God, Please ask Martha Stewart to include this tip in her magazine: “Next Thanksgiving, why not put your cat out for a breath of fresh air, then take your turkey, put it in the blender, bones and all, and mince for 10 seconds with the top off. Next, graciously invite your dog in for a holiday dinner he’ll never forget! Then, let the cat back in the house and suggest that he sniff the kitchen floor.” Choctaw

Hi Ammie, It's Pete
Of course a plane will be available, You will have your choice of my Lear Jet Model 85, or one of the Royal Gulftream G650s. Both aircraft have the range to make the trip from California to the Hawaiian Islands in complete safety. In addition to pilots, you'll also have a full cabin staff and in flight chefs. As a member of the Royal Squadron, If you'd like some time at the controls, I'm sure it could be arranged. We will be postioning one of the Royal Bell 421 Helicopters in Honolulu (It will be shipped out via the Royal Yacht 'Luz De Luna') for your sight seeing pleasure.
I'm pretty sure that Whiskers would like to Fly you and your guests to the Islands, and I'm reasonably sure that he would like his Fiance, (my sister Talley) to be his co-pilot. As the time gets closer, we'll firm up the details. But this will be a memeorable trip. You can specify what Meals you'd like ad what sights you would enjoy seeing. Your wish is our command for two weeks.
Purrs Hugs & a vote, your friends, Pete & The whole family

I want to thank you for voting for me in the "girl kitty" contest. I am very greatful for your support. I don't blame you for not liking being petted near your behind. I get awfully touchy about that to (at least at times).

What beautiful profile portriats you both have. Did your momma paint them? Sebastien's momma would love to be able to paint. She hasn't mastered the art yet but is great at making stick trees.

Attention Hairballz,
Recieved this last minute from Oscar John. Queen Josie Mae has invited us to perform in the races at the castle today..We may even take a roll in the mud..Anything for our beloved Queen.. Watch the CMR for winners..

Thought I would send a c/p of my blog to Q Josie Mae this morning. It's an update from the early morning races: What a parade for Queen Josie Mae
Sun has just risen on the Ozarks horizon. Queen Josie Mae looks down on the track & could not believe her eyes. Her loyal subjects had formed a parade in her honor. Queens guards & ladies in waiting formed the tip of the formation following by the Hairbaltz Riders on gleaming Harley's, each with a "Josie Mae" flag flying from their handle bars. Immediately behind them were the colorful Kat-Karts in dazzling designs and colors with "Josie Mae" license plates done by hand; then the pink power puff karts for those of delicate persuasion. But cutest of all was the kittens in their little bumper cars. They did not form a straight parade line but they made up for it with cheers and high five paws. The parade was pawsome. Queen Josie Mae waited for the Harley's to form the first heat...raised her gold pistol and fired the "go" short & the races were off to a fantastic start. O.J. sighed in satisfaction of a job well done, especially after he saw K. Steve in the middle of the mud wallow on his Ninja Turtle Raft.

Talley started our rides this week, Cyndee took over when Maggie became ill and will continue riding next week. Dasher will be leading us starting March 17th.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Talley, Dad Mike and family..God Bless.

Hi Ammie!
I had to share K. Pete's brilliant rendition of my solo flight on the T-38 Talon. It was amazing!

WHISKER'S T-38 SOLO FLIGHT -
Whiskers checked the aircraft carefully as Pete watched.
It was just after dawn. The sky was a brilliant blue and the air was chilly. A light breeze blew across the field from the North.
Whiskers opened the access panel on the fuselage and used the control to raise both canopies. Talley drove up with the start cart and Whiskers and she carried the special ladders to the aircraft and placed them in position.
Angels Lucy-Fur and Sylvia Seville watched on in evident pride. They had polished the T-38 so that it gleamed in the bright morning.
Whiskers climbed the ladder swung into the cockpit and strapped in. He called to Pete, “We’re just about ready!”
Pete climbed into the aft cockpit, and strapped in. Whiskers ran the cockpit checklist, and instructed Pete to arm his ejection set. He did the same. Whiskers signaled Talley, to connect the start unit. When she had connected the hose, he signaled for air to the left engine. The engine started and he signaled Talley to divert the air to the right engine.
Pete and Whiskers had discussed this flight in detail, and Whiskers knew exactly what he needed to do; He’d take off, Head out over the ocean, run through an extensive series of control maneuvers and then, gong supersonic he would perform another series of maneuvers to demonstrate his skill with the aircraft.
He signaled Talley to disconnect the start unit and pull the gear safety streamers and the wheel chocks. Talley walked out from under the aircraft and held up the bright orange streamers. Whiskers did a quick count, and then saluted Talley, She returned the salute, and then surprised him by blowing him a kiss.
He smiled happily and contacted the tower. He was granted permission to taxi to the active and to take off at pilot’s discretion.
Pete said, “Okay buddy, I’m ready if you are.”
Whiskers replied, “I’m definitely ready”. He began to taxi, handling the stiff nose wheel steering with competence.
The runway was clear, and Whiskers lined up on the runway, locked the brakes and brought up full military power. The aircraft thundered against the restraining brakes. Whiskers noted that the power had stabilized and he released the brakes, at the same time he shoved the throttles into afterburner. Every head on the airfield turned toward the roar of raw power. The white jet streaked upward in a vertical climb, accelerating at nearly five G’s. At ten thousand feet, Whiskers leveled off and accelerated to .98 Mach. Twenty miles off the coast, he shoved the throttles back into afterburner and blasted through the sound barrier so quickly that he never even felt the transonic shudder.

He performed his maneuvers with the precision that Pete had come to expect from him. When the last roll was completed, Pete said, “nicely done, Whiskers, Take me back to the airfield, refuel and do the same thing you just did, only do it solo.”
Whiskers had known that was what Pete had intended, but hearing the words gave him a thrill of pleasure.
He brought the Talon in, countering the slight crosswind with a slip bank, and touched down smoothly. He taxied back to the ramp and raised the canopies. Pete signaled Talley to bring the ladder for him and he quickly exited the aft cockpit. He took a moment to safety the aft ejection seat and then climbed down.
He took a moment to safety the aft ejection seat and then climbed down.
Whisker contacted the tower for permission to taxi to the fuel pad and did a hot refuel.
Moments later he was cleared for takeoff.
Pete & Talley stood watching the white jet streak skyward. Angels Lucy and Sylvia watched from a hovering position near the Control Tower.
Pete asked Talley, “Want coffee?”
She laughed, “Truly, Pete, I’m ashamed to say it, but I’m too nervous for any more caffeine. I know Whiskers is going to be fine, but that’s quite an aircraft. Flying faster than sound is a challenge. …. I’m being silly aren’t I?”
Pete nodded, “Just a little. Whiskers is the best student I’ve ever had. He could have soloed yesterday. But I figured he’d feel a little more confident after this morning’s flight.
Talley said, “A coffee and maybe a Danish might be nice.”
Talley picked at her Danish, and ate a few bites. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, true it didn’t approach the taste and freshness of the rolls that Callie had made for them, before dawn when they were getting ready for the day, but it was a perfectly good restaurant pastry. She kept looking at her watch. Finally Pete said, “It’s about time, why don’t we walk out to the flight line and watch for Whiskers to make his approach.
For his part, Whiskers couldn’t believe the feeling of flying the Talon solo. It was as if he could turn the world upside down with a flick of his paw. It was exhilarating and awe inspiring. He turned back toward the airfield, bleeding speed off as he went. He contacted the tower, and was surprised when the airfield administrator came on the radio and informed that if he wished, a high speed pass over the runway would be authorized. The normal rule of below two hundred and fifty knots below ten thousand feet could be temporarily suspended. He quickly added, of course it would have to be sub sonic, can’t have broken windows up and down the coast from the sonic boom.
Whiskers smiled, and said, “This is November 38 Tango, requesting a high-speed pass down the runway.”
The tower replied, “Request approved!”

Whiskers dropped to one hundred feet, and fed power in. The runway was coming up and his speed was .98 Mach. He started and eight point hesitation roll and was on knife edge as he flashed past the tower with the thunder of afterburners rolling across the field.
Pete flushed with pride and told Talley, “Your boyfriend is very popular with the locals. I can guarantee you that the Tower offered him that high speed pass, because he’s so well liked here. I know he wouldn’t ask. He’d feel like he was imposing.”
Talley said “that was a beautiful roll wasn’t it. He’s so good.”
“In more than just aviation. He is a very good cat.”
Whiskers popped the air brakes got the speed down and extended the gear and flaps to land. He turned final and settled to the runway. He returned to the ramp at a fast taxi.
He shut down, performed his checks and called for the ladder. Talley placed it on the aircraft and hugged him hard once he’d climbed down.
Pete came over and held out a small box. Whiskers took it and opened it. Inside was an embroidered patch, It depicted an Eagle descending with Talons extended, and the words Talon Pilot below the image. There was also a set of wings, silver with a lightning bolt in the center. These were special wings for supersonic flight. Pete said, The Patch is for your Flight Jacket. I had it made for you. It’s like the one my dd had on his flight jacket. The wings indicate you’re qualified for faster than sound flight. They go on your Flight suit.
Whiskers said, “Pete, Thank you so much! What a thrill.”
Pete told Whiskers that he was honored to have him for a student and a friend.
At that point Talley pulled Whiskers to her and said “come and tell me what it was like for you.”
Angels Lucy and Sylvia were busy adjusting the pedal and seat placement in the front cockpit to accommodate Talley’s shorter legs and smaller body.
The aircraft would be ready for her training when she and Pete were ready to begin.
Pete watched Talley and Whiskers and decide that Talley’s lessons could wait, while his sister and his friend enjoyed the excitement of the moment.

I left a friendly vote with purrs and hugs.

Hi Ammie!
I couldn't resist sharing my second day of training on the T-38 Talon supersonic jet! K. Pete tells it better than any kitty!

Whiskers T-38 Training - Day Two

Whiskers did the walkaround, and was surprised that the checklist seemed much simpler than it had yesterday. Talley had positioned the Start Cart in front of the T-38 and positioned the cockpit access ladders.
Pete watched as Whiskers opened the access port and raised both canopies. Pete climbed into the backseat, removed the ejection seat safety locks and strapped in. He plugged his suit and helmet into the aircraft and waited for Whiskers to strap in and perform his cockpit checks.
Talley started the compressor on the Start cart and connected the hose under the aircraft.
Once again Whiskers found the cockpit checks much easier than it had been Yesterday. He was ready. Using paw signals he indicated to Talley that he was ready for starting air. He hit the left engine start switch and watched the RPM’s climb. At fourteen percent he moved the throttle to start and watched the power gauges stabilize. He signaled Talley, for air to the right engine and once again got a good start. He signaled Talley to disconnect the starter unit and pull the landing gear safety lock pins and the wheel chocks. He contacted the Tower and said, “November Three Eight Tango, requesting clearance to taxi to active.”
The Tower came back immediately, “Three Eight Tango, cleared to active, with takeoff at pilot’s discretion.”

Whiskers reviewed everything he needed to do in his mind. He felt like a part of the sleek jet. He glanced at Talley as she held up the landing gear pins and chocks so he could count them. He signaled okay and saluted her, she returned his salute and he could see her mouthing “I love you.”
His heart leapt with joy and he brought the throttles forward and activated the nose gear steering. He taxied more smoothly than he had yesterday. Reaching the runway, he held short and brought the throttles to full military power. He strained to hold the brakes as the aircraft strained under the awesome power. He watched the power gauges stabilize again and asked Pete, “Do I do the takeoff?
Pete replied, “you sure do, but do it like the book says, you can skip the aileron rolls that I did yesterday when I was showing off for your fans, just keep the speed under 250 knots until you break ten thousand feet then you can do a climbing turn to a due west heading. We’re going to head for the ocean, so we can go supersonic without breaking any windows”.
Whiskers released the brakes turned on to the active runway. He lined up on the centerline and moved the throttles into full afterburner. The acceleration was like a giant paw pushing him hard into his seat. He pulled vertical and the G-forces surged. He could feel his G-suit squeezing his legs. Ten thousand feet flashed by and he lowered the nose a few degrees and the speed increased. In the distance he could see the blue of the Pacific. Coming through 45000 feet, Pete told him to level off and stay in afterburner. He did and noticed that the faster they went, the more sensitive the controls became. Now it seemed that he didn’t really have to move the controls, as much as just thinking the aircraft where he wanted it to go. He watched the Mach Meter as it edged closer to 1.0. He felt a little shudder in the airframe and before Pete had to tell him, he dropped the nose and the Mach Meter jumped to Mach 1.1.

Pete keyed the intercom, and told him. “Nice job Whiskers, now you see that Ship down there, the one with all of the containers on it, let’s use that as a center point and do some turns about a point. We’ll do a series in supersonic mode and then we’ll come out of afterburner and do some similar exercises, only slower. Watch your fuel too. We’ve already burned ¼ of our fuel. Don’t worry, when we come out of afterburner, we’ll burn a lot less fuel.”
Whiskers performed his exercises just as flawlessly as Pete had expected. Pete could tell that Whiskers had the feel of the airplane and was already comfortable with it. They practiced control maneuvers for ten more minutes and then slowed down to six hundred knots and performed a complete set.
Pete told Whiskers, “Stay above ten thousand feet, and takes us to the Park where Maggie & Callie are having their picnic.
Whiskers turned to 86 degrees and in a few minutes, they were over the park.
Pete told Whiskers to slow to two hundred and fifty knots and begin descending to fifteen hundred feet above terrain. They located the Lake and then dropping lower they spotted the picnickers. Whiskers rocked the wings in greeting and then Pete said. Okay time to go get gas. Take us home. I want you to do it all, but I’ll be on the controls with you if you should have any problem.
Whiskers called the tower, was cleared to land and handled the aircraft like a seasoned fighter pilot. He touched down smoothly, taxied fast and when he pulled to a stop in front of the hangar Talley was waiting. As soon as the canopies opened she quickly positioned the access ladders. Whiskers performed the shutdown, leaving all of the switches in position for restarting the aircraft. He and Pete installed the safety locks in the ejection seats and climbed down. Talley hugged Whiskers and said, “Beautiful landing!”
Whiskers took his helmet off and smiled broadly. “That is so much fun!”
Pete shook his paw and said, “Fantastic job, I think we hit the books this afternoon and tomorrow, I believe we can solo you and Talley.
My only concern is that once we solo you, you need to put in a lot of solo time. We’ll be getting some more T-38s but It looks like it’s going to be a week or so. I guess we could get Angel Sylvie or Lucy to bring you over a couple of times a week or you could fly the Eclipse over and stay with us at the Castle Field townhouse. We’ll work that out though don’t worry about it now. Just enjoy the moment. Why don’t we go see what Maggie packed in that Picnic lunch.
They piled into the van with Whiskers mom and headed for the park.

Hi Ammie!
I just had to share my first training day on the T-38 Talon supersonic jet, as so eloquently told by furiend & instructor, King Pete!

On the way to the airport Whiskers and Talley, meowed excitedly, both were delighted that today Whiskers would be introduced to the T-38.
Pete smiled at the weight of the flight that Whiskers carried. He had all of the manuals for the T-38 and all of the material that Pete had sent him.
When they arrived at the airport, the Ramp Attendant ran up and asked with evident excitement, "Will you be talking the T-38 up today?"
Pete shook his head, and said, “No, today is a ground school day, but we'll probably do a startup, would you mind bringing The Talon and the Star cart out to the ramp?"
"Right away sir", the young man replied.
Pete asked Whiskers "Have you studied the walk around check list?"
Whiskers nodded, and replied, "And the cockpit checklist, the compressor hookup and all of the hand signals for the ground crew."
Pete smiled, he'd expected nothing less from Whiskers who was always ahead of the curve as far as preparation was concerned. "Okay then", Pete said, "Why don't you start with the preflight walk around and if you come to something you don't understand, ask me and we'll talk about it."
Whiskers said, "Sure, This reminds me of our first lessons together, back in the little Cessna."
Pete smiled, "Me too, you sure have come a long ways Whisker and you've never been anything less than a hundred percent prepared. The T-38 emerged from the hanger, being towed with the specialized tow unit. Another ramp boy drove the compressor cart and placed it in front of the T-38.
Pete, Whiskers and Talley walked over to the aircraft. Pete noticed that Angels Sylvie and Lucy had cleaned and polished the aircraft before they hangared it yesterday evening. The polished stainless steel afterburner ducts gleamed fine silver. Pete took the access ladders from the compressor cart and placed them against the fuselage. He opened an access panel and pressed a switch which raised the canopies. Pete climbed down and saw that Whiskers already had his checklist in hand and was standing at the left engine inlet.
“Okay”, Pete said, “Let’s begin.”
Whiskers, checked each item and performed a very careful inspection of the wingtips and the fairings at the wingroots.
He took about a half-hour but finally he had checked and confirmed every item. Pete had pointed out potential areas for concern and explained why they should be checked very carefully.

Talley suggested that another cup of coffee might be welcome before Whiskers started his cockpit checks.
Pete agreed and when they were in the coffee shop, Pete opened his flight bag and handed Whiskers a package. “You might as well put this on and start getting used to it. It’s a flight suit and G-chaps, you plug them into the aircrafts pressurization system and when you start pulling G’s they inflate automatically to squeeze your legs and keep the blood from draining from your head. The other package is your helmet, you can just clip the bag to your flight case. Whiskers unzipped the bag and was surprised to see his name on the front of the helmet and the squadron logo on the sides.
“Thank you, so much, Pete the helmet is amazing. I’ll be right back.” Whiskers hurried to the pilot locker rooms and Talley took a sip of her coffee. “He’s really excited”, she said.
Pete said, if he’s as well prepared for his cockpit and start checks we should be able to do a live start this afternoon, maybe even get in some taxiing. What do you think?”
Talley agreed but added, “Sometimes he has to get comfortable with the idea that he’s really ready. I think he’d be okay to do some taxiing though.
When Whiskers returned he was wearing the flight suit and had his kneeboard strapped on his leg. His name was on the patch on the left side of his chest and the royal squadron logo was on the right. He was all smiles. “Well”, he said, “Now I look the part, all I have to do is develop the skills.”
Pete said, you’re a lot closer to having the skillset than you think. I was very impressed with your performance this morning. I was just telling Talley, that I think we might try some low speed taxiing this afternoon, if you’re not too tired.”
Whiskers swallowed, and said, “I don’t think I’ll be too tired. Mom said that if you think I’m ready, then I have to quit doubting myself and take your word that I’m ready.”
With a smile, Pete said, “A very smart woman, your mother.”
Whiskers had studied the cockpit photos and the cockpit checklist. He was totally prepared. On his first run through, he ran the checklist as quickly as Pete did.
Talley said that she’d run the start unit. Pete and Whiskers strapped in to the cockpit, Whiskers in the front cockpit. Talley connected the air and then moved forward to be in Whiskers line of vision. He signaled her that he was ready for air and he lit the first engine, he signaled to switch to the right engine and started it to. He made sure that both turbines were stabilized and then Pete said; “Have Talley pull the chocks and then contact the tower for clearance to taxi to the terminal and back to the apron. That nose wheel steering is stiff, so be prepared to use a fair amount of force.”

Clearance was granted and Whiskers eased the throttles forward and the craft began to move. Whiskers controlled the aircraft expertly. They made several runs from the Ramp to the terminal, down to the fuel pad, and then back to the ramp. Whiskers was clearly enjoying himself. A small crowd had gathered at the fence and watched with interest. Pete said, “Well it’s been a long day, want to call it a day? ….. Or would you like to go for a ride?”
“Really, Pete could we.”
“Sure” Pete said, “I can fly from back here and I’d really hate to disappoint all of your fans.”
Whiskers looked toward the fence and noticed that a fair number of folks had gathered. He waved and most waved back.
Pete contacted the tower and requested takeoff clearance. It was granted immediately. Pete said, “Okay, Whiskers, take us to the runway and hold short. We need to do a run up on the engines, and I want you to keep your paws and feet on the controls. Just follow me through on the control motions to get the feel.”
“Roger that, Pete”, Whiskers said.
They held short on the Taxiway and Pete explained that they were going to full military power and would be holding brakes until power stabilized.
Whiskers could feel the aircraft shuddering under the tremendous thrust, held back by the big brakes. The gauges settled and Pete released the brakes and turned on to the runway. As soon as they were on the centerline Pete called, “Afterburners!”
The engines boomed as the powerful burners lit. They were off the line faster than a high performance sports car and seconds after that they pushed deep into their seats by the building G-forces. Just off the runway, Pete retracted the gear accelerate to two hundred and fifty knots and pulled vertical. He pulled aileron and began to roll, still climbing vertically. At Ten thousand feet, he was out of restricted air space and lowered the rate of climb to gain speed, the mach meter hovered at .98 mach.
“Okay Whiskers, time to go home; follow me through on the approach and the landing.”
Whiskers complied and they landed firmly with the nose high to slow the aircraft. Back at the ramp Talley ran to the aircraft, placed the ladders and climbed up to help Whiskers out.
It had been a fantastic day for Whiskers, and as he noticed the gleam in Talley’s eyes he thought it might be even a better evening.

I left a friendly vote with purrs and hugs.

Hi Ammie,
Thought I would start the New Year off with some 'little know' facts about the Peach State Cats! I hope you enjoy and I will start with myself...

BART~nicknamed Booger Boy-REASON: I got sick and nearly died shortly after mom adopted me. My little eyes stayed crusted shut with what mom called 'eye boogers',and she would bathe them open every morning while talking softly to me,calling me her Booger Boy....the name stuck, just like the eye crud!

SMUDGE~Will meow his fool head off for mom and dad to pet him, then keep j-u-s-t out of reach so they can't,leading then around the yard!

GROWLIE~Won't let anyone but mom pet him!

SAMSON~ADORES being petted! He had rather mom pet him than eat,and will even 'grab' moms hand if she pulls it away!

CHARLIE~ His shelter name was ARMANI,but even though it suited his good-looking tux,mom changed it because dad would never have remembered it!

DIXON~Has a very high-pitched meow! No one takes him serious when he tries to be aggressive! I mean, there he is,in his 'aggressive Tom' stance...back bowed, head down, legs stiff......then out comes this sound like air slowly released out of a balloon!!MOL! Dixon could make another kitty laugh to death!

Well, that's all for today,as there are so many of us! I will finish the rest of my sibs later in the week! Hope you have a very happy New Year! ~Purrs,Bart

Music suddenly fills the Castle:
Hey hey mama said the way you move,
Gon' make you sweat, gon' make you groove ….

By Royal request the Hairballz Rainbow Riders are commemorating the legendary rock group Led Zeppelin, who once rode their Harleys through the lobby of the Chateau Marmont in L. A. To the tune of “Black Dog”, the 9 Harleys enter the Castle with a roar and split into two groups. Honourary members Angels Doodlebug & Yum Yum once again protect the riders and assembled kitties from harm. The nine riders are wearing armbands in honour of our newest CC Angels, Angels Wendy and most recently, Angel Rhuby.

Our COTD Zoe Monique leads Thundie, Ammie, Q. Lola, and Talley up the right fork of the Grand Staircase, while Mallow leads Dasher, Cyndee, and Kali up the left fork. As they reach the landing at the top, the Riders execute perfect wheelies and pass each other, proceeding down the opposite forks of the staircase. Group leaders Zoe and Mallow do this by way of the wide bannister.

Reaching the bottom, they gather in a semi-circle around the stunned Queen Lily and Sir Steve as “Black Dog” ends. They’re not done yet, though; the mighty motors begin to pulse to the beat of another Led Zeppelin classic as the Hairballz sing their special salute to our Royal kitties:

Vroom – vroom - vroom
Gotta whole lotta love … (vroom, vroom)
Gotta whole lotta love … (vroom, vroom)
For - Steve - and - Lily …..
WE .. HAVE .. LOOOOOOVVVE!

Nine motors rev as Zoe takes the lead, and two lines of 4 Harleys each follow her out the main door of the Castle.

Hi Ammie!
I am always excited at the Coronation event, but even more so as the Pilot In Command. It was very kind of King Pete to take us up for a practice ride on the 787 Dreamliner aircraft yesterday. It makes me feel a lot more confident and I am happy Sir Shadowfoot will be flying with us. He is an expert pilot and I know I will feel much better knowing he is on board with us. I posted a copy of King Pete's blog on your page of our practice flight, in case you didn't get it. Good luck to both of us!

I left a friendly vote with warm hugs and soft purrs.

Practice for Coronation
Pete looked out from his table in the Flightline Café as The Eclipse Jet touched down. He told the waitress he’d be back and walked outside.
Whiskers had loaded a baggage cart with what appeared to be a mountain of luggage and was transporting it into the hangar. When he came back out Pete called to him and he and Callie ran across the tarmac to greet him.
“Hey Whiskers, we need to go and pick Ammie up and bring her back here. Would you like to fly, or would you like to take my Lear Jet?”
Whiskers thought a moment and said, “well, the Eclipse is all ready to fly and we’d have to prep your Lear, It would probably be faster to take the Eclipse.”
Pete nodded, Okay, that makes sense. Why don’t you get some coffee and I’ll program your Avio NG with the coordinates for Charlotte County Airport.
Callie decided that she would like to go up to the Castle and enjoy some of the Gingerbread Festival that Queen Lily was holding at the Castle and talk with some of her friends.
Pete and Whiskers took off and Pete explained while they were enroute that there would be a Third Pilot on the Coronation Flight. “Shaddy will be aboard and he’ll be ready to help if you need him. Ammie is a good pilot, a natural really, but she has relatively few hours. If a situation should arise, I think we’d both feel better with someone more experienced to help you. For the most part Shaddy will be back in the Cabin chatting with the VIPs and familiarizing Steve with the Royal Aircraft. If you feel like you need him don’t hesitate to ask for his help.”

Whiskers agreed that it was comforting to know that a third qualified pilot would be aboard and that he was happy to be the designated Pilot In Command of the Royal Dreamliner, that would soon be Feline Force One.

The trip was smooth and when they arrived at North Port, Ammie was waiting and ready. They exchanged greetings, Ammie marveling the whole time at Whiskers’ sleek jet.
Whiskers saw to the refueling and when the Aircraft was ready, Pete Climbed into the back of the aircraft and motioned Ammie into the right front seat. Whiskers finished his walk around, conducting it as thoroughly as if he hadn’t just flown the aircraft cross country and then halfway down the East Coast. Pete told Ammie that Whiskers was an excellent pilot, because he was meticulous to detail. When Whiskers climbed in and buckled up Pete asked him to explain to Ammie what he was doing as he prepared to takeoff.
Whiskers performed his cabin checks, explaining carefully to Ammie what each step was for and how each control functioned. He called up the program for the Flight back to Castle Airfield. The Tower cleared him for takeoff and in moments they were airborne.
During the flight Whiskers allowed Ammie to handle the jet and in moments she had a broad smile on her face. “You’re really a good teacher, Whiskers” she said. “I feel like I’ve flown this aircraft before and it’s because you explained everything so well.”
“No”, Whiskers said, “The Eclipse Jet is just easy to fly.”
Pete interjected from the back of the aircraft, “She’s right Whiskers, you’re a natural teacher. You explain things clearly and concisely.”
The trip to the Castle was over before Ammie wanted it to be.
When they taxied to the hangars, The 787 Dreamliner was on the ramp and the ground crew was removing the fuel hoses. The stairs were down and a crew of technicians was coming down them. Pete approached the crew chief.
Tam as the chief was called said, “Afternoon, Pete, She’s ready to fly.”
Pete looked at the gleaming aircraft and nodded. “She looks great Tam, tell the crew I said thanks. We’ll try not to stir up too much dust. We’ll try to keep her clean so you won’t have so much to do to get her ready for tomorrow.”
Tam shrugged, “That new wash rack you got for us does a great job. We’ll be polishing her stem to stern anyway. A new King deserves a first class ride.”
Pete nodded. “That’s very true Tam.”
Tam offered Pete a clipboard, and Pete signed the top sheet at the bottom of the page. Tam, took the clipboard back and said. “She’s all your, sir.”
Pete gave him a look. …. “Uh right, she’s all yours, Pete.” Pete smiled and clapped a paw on Tam’s shoulder. You’re a good friend Tam, No ‘sirs’ between us.”
Pete climbed the stairs went into the cockpit and came back down with two tablet computers. Handing one to Whiskers, he said our new

checklists. Whiskers examined the sleek tablet and noticed a Boeing logo on it. He touched the screen and a menu came up. Pete pointed out PILOT”S PREFLIGHT.
Whiskers touched and the screen displayed a checklist with accompanying photos. “This is very good, Pete”
With Whiskers in the left seat, Pete in the right seat and Ammie in the jump seat, it took them twenty minutes to do the ground check and then another fifteen minutes in the cockpit. Several times Whiskers remarked on the similarities between the big Boeing Jet and the Eclipse Jet.
When they were ready to secure the aircraft, Pete got up and went back to close the door. He caught sight of Talley and Julius Steven running across the Tarmac. Pete held the stairs, and waited for Talley and Julius to enter the cabin. “Grab some seats and buckle up. Talley, maybe you could explain to Julius what we’re doing. I’ll spend some time with him when we get back on the ground.”
Pete retracted the stairs, and secured the door. Then he re-entered the cockpit and told Whiskers. “We’re good to go!”
Whiskers looked out of the cockpit and said, “Now that is nothing like the Eclipse, There’s a hundred feet of wing out there and I’m sitting two stories up in the air.”
Pete smiled. “Be sure there’s still a hundred feet of wing out there when we get to the active runway.”
“I’ll try not to scrape anything.”
Ammie sat back, fascinated, as the tower cleared them to taxi.
Whiskers shoved the throttle’s forward and eased the massive aircraft toward the Runway. As he began takeoff roll he felt the rumble of awesome power as the Dreamliner gathered speed. Then…. Smooth flight climbing, pure joy! He retracted the gear, and began to retract flaps but the flight director was already doing it for him. They went out to the old practice area, and performed maneuvers. After Whiskers had finished a complete series, Pete had Ammie take the right seat and watched as Whiskers took her through a complete series of training maneuvers. They returned to Castle Airfield and Pete watched closely as Whiskers lined up for landing, the angle was right, the speed was right the settings were right. Pete waited and then it came, the aircraft spoke to them. FLARE! FLARE! FLARE! Whiskers pulled back on the stick, cut power, armed the thrust reversers and felt the huge aircraft settle gently to earth. Reverse thrust, braking and good control, allowed them to turn off at the first taxiway.
“Nicely done,” Pete said.
After shut down, Pete invited Ammie, Whiskers, Callie and Julius Steven to dine with him and his family at their town house on the Castle Grounds. “Tomorrow is going to be a really big day, dinner and early bedtime is the ticket for tonight.”

Day Before Sir Steve's Coronation
Whiskers was busily working on his flight plan to Castle Airfield on his Eclipse Jet, arriving early, a day before Sir Steve's Coronation. He would be piloting the 787 Dreamliner for the first time and he wanted to take a quick check ride with K. Pete the day before. He knew the 787 Dreamliner and his Eclipse Jet were similar, but you can never be too prepared.

Whisker's Mom was driving him and his sister Callie to Reid-Hillview Airport where his Eclipse Jet was housed. It was a cold morning, but Whiskers breathed a sigh of relief that the rain had let up from yesterday. Whiskers gathered up all his logbook, flight checklists, license and flight manual into his flight bag. Callie always double checked to make sure her furbrother had all the necessary paperwork. Arriving at the airport they kissed their Mom goodbye and she wished them good luck. Whiskers was sporting his precious leather flight jacket and white scarf and Callie, as always, was wearing the gossamer gold scarf given to her by Angel Queen Gracie. Callie was loaded down with suitcases carrying her brand new gown & undergarments she had bought at Cyndee Foo Foo's Dress Shop, thanks to advice from Talley. Whiskers couldn't believe how heavy her suitcases were as he loaded her luggage, but he chuckled silently to himself, just happy to see her so excited.

After loading up the jet, Whiskers pulled out his preflight checklist and slowly went through each step, always marveling at this sophisticated, state-of-the-art aircraft. After finishing the exterior checks, Whiskers and Callie boarded and begin the interior checklists. Doubling checking his fuel, because this would be a long trip , Whiskers was satisfied and began the prestart checklist. Double checking the clearance around the aircraft, Whiskers starts the turbines.

Whiskers contacts the tower and proudly identifies his aircraft, "November Three Zero Foxtrot, requesting permission to taxi to the active runway." Permission came back and Whiskers advanced the throttles. With the Eclipse's nose pointed up above the horizon, the 2 kitties watched as the ground raced away as two turbofan engines shrug off gravity. The Jet's responsiveness is near-instantaneous! After reaching cruising altitude, Whiskers engages the auto-pilot for the first time and tries to relax. Callie was mewing like crazy over anticipation of the Coronation, but it didn't bother Whiskers a bit.

Before long they began their descent into Castle Airfield. "Castle Tower, this is November Three Zero Foxtrot, requesting landing clearance on runway 18." The tower voiced back, "November Three Zero Foxtrot, you are clear to land on 18." After a smooth landing & safe stop, Whiskers turns off the taxi way and heads to the parking hanger. Whiskers secures the Eclipse, fills out his log book and retrieves Callie's luggage from the aircraft.

Whiskers and Ammie will be flying King Steve to his coronation tomorrow so as always Whiskers was a bundle of nerves. K. Pete had reminded Whiskers that the 787 Dreamliner flight control system is just about identical to the Avio NG System on the Eclipse 500 Jet, so just follow normal procedures. Whiskers found a small tow cart to carry all of Callie's luggage and had her hop in the back. She was too excited to admit she was a little tired. Now they had to find where the Dreamliner was being housed and see if King Pete had arrived yet. The anticipation that one feels at every Coronation was starting to build.

Hi Ammie It's Pete.
We had a really hard time getting on CC today but we persevered and here we are. We posted your final lesson and your flight test below. It's also on my page. If you like, I'll be pleased to post it on CMR or you can if you wish. I thought I'd make an announcement at Hockey this evening, to let everyone know that we have another very skilled pilot in the Royal Squadron. I'm very pleased to say that it is obvious that you put all of that time between your last lesson on July 19th and today to good use. Your perfect score on the written exam and your excellent performance on your flight test attest to the hard work that you put in during all of your solo practice hours Congratulations pilot! Next, we will be working on transitioning you into one of the Eclipse jets, so that you can keep one of them at your home field, to provide quick air transport to kitties in your area who need transportation. You may also use it to fly your friends and keep your skills sharp.
Welcome to the Royal Squadron.
PS we will be including you in the next Coronation Flight activities.

Ammie’s Third Lesson and Flight Exam
Pete and Talley arrived at Castle Airfield together. They had flown up from Florida together in the family’s Lear 85 (a gift from Queen Cherish at the end of her reign). Pete secured the aircraft while Talley went to Flight Operations. She checked the sign out log on November one six three four Yankee and found that Ammie had been keeping her practice schedule with precision. Talley noted that since she had endorsed Ammie’s student license for solo flight back on July 19th, Ammie had practiced at least once a week and usually twice. Ammie had accumulated nearly 80 hours of flight time. Talley joined Pete in the Flight Line Café and ordered coffee and a catnip sweet roll. She shared the information on Ammie’s training schedule with him.
He thought about it a moment and said, “Well, she shouldn’t require much review before her flight exam. Why don’t you administer her written and then take her up for a quick set of test maneuvers. If you’re satisfied with her performance, I’ll give her the flight test and endorse her license.”
Talley took a sip of her coffee and replied, “That sounds like a good plan.”
“When is she due to arrive?” Pete asked.
Talley looked toward the entrance and nodded, “Right about now I’d say.”
Ammie walked in with her flight bag and shrugged out of her coat. “Good morning.” she said with barely concealed excitement.

They exchanged greetings and Pete asked her if she felt ready for her written test.
She replied in the affirmative with an eager nod. She ordered coffee and a sweet roll and asked Talley where she’d like to administer her exam. Talley said that the pilot briefing room was empty and quiet and that they could complete the test in there without interruption. Talley suggested that they finish their breakfast and then do the test.
Pete went out the hangar and proceeded to bring the training aircraft out to the tarmac. Once he had the aircraft positioned, he took a moment to just stand there and appreciate the beauty of the day. The breeze blowing across the field was chilly and the day was bright. The mountains were ablaze with the color of fall leaves. From the Castle wafted the scent of smoke from the fireplaces. He walked over to the picnic table in front of the operations building and sat down. He turned the collar of his flight jacket up against the chill and popped a stick of catnip gum in his mouth.
Talley, gave Ammie her exam booklet and clicking her stopwatch, told Ammie to begin the test. Ammie broke the seal on the booklet with a sharp claw and began to work. She could have one hour to complete her work and it would involve aerodynamics, navigation, engine performance and questions involving judgement.
Ammie had not only been keeping up with her flight practice, she had virtually memorized her texts. Talley wasn’t surprised when after a half hour Ammie announced that she was done. Talley started to ask if she was sure she didn’t want to recheck any of her work, but seeing the positive expression on Ammie’s face she simply accepted the booklet, and began to check the answers. After the first six questions the only doubt that remained to Talley was whether Ammie would have a perfect score or not. It would be very rare for a student not to have some small error on the test, but so far Ammie was perfect. Talley herself had missed one question on minimum reserve fuel requirements, A point which Pete always kidded her about. Pete had of course earned a perfect score, (something he never mentioned to students) but which he would tease Talley about from time to time.
As Talley turned to the last page she moved down it and smiled broadly. Ammie watched with some indication of nervousness. “How’d I do?” she asked.

Talley quickly double checked her results. “You passed! Ammie, but before I post your score, I want to talk with Pete and have him double check this for me.”
Let’s go flying. We’ll do a quick review of the maneuvers that will be on your flight exam and by the time we get back he’ll have checked this test over and we can fax it in to the FAA (Feline Aviation Administration).
Pete joined Talley and Ammie at the aircraft, Talley instructed Ammie to begin her preflight checks, and then she motioned Pete aside.
Pete asked, “What’s up?”
“I need you to double check Ammie’s test before I fax it to the FAA.”
“What’s the problem?” Pete asked.
“No problem, but it looks like a perfect score. I just don’t want to make a mistake and look silly.”
Pete exclaimed, “I’m not surprised. It’s great. You know what happened, don’t you? She had so much study time she’s probably memorized her text books. Plus she’s been taking the practice tests on the Feline Research Center web site. I just wanted to make sure she’d been keeping up with her ground school studies as well as her flight skills; So I checked the logs while you and she were doing the test. She’s been getting perfect scores on the practice tests for a month now.”
Talley looked happy. “Still, you do mind taking a quick look while we’re up?”
“No Problem, glad to.” Pete took the test booklet and the scoring key. He tucked it into the inside pocket of his flight jacket. He looked around watching the grass sway. “Looks like a pretty fair crosswind If you use the crop-duster field for her engine out emergency landing keep a close eye on her. Talley regarded the stiff breeze, “I will, maybe we’ll simulate landing without actual touchdown.”
Pete nodded, “Good idea, and we’ll do the real thing on the test. No sense doing it twice in one afternoon. If the wind gets much stronger than this I’ll bring her back here and let her do a power off landing into the wind on the active runway. Who’s to say that you can’t have an engine out on approach? Technically that meets the emergency landing requirement, and does it without bending metal or breaking bones. I’ll be interested to see how she handles this much wind on takeoff.”
At that point, Ammie called to Talley, “Okay, Talley we’re ready to fly!”
Talley moved off toward the aircraft, giving Ammie a mock salute and a smile.

Pete walked back into the café, ordered a catnip tea and extracted the test booklet from his jacket pocket. As the examiner and FAA Test he was entitled to certify Ammie’s results and that’s what he did. He checked the answers and verified that Talley had been right; Ammie had scored a perfect test. Over two hundred questions, some involving fairly complex calculations, and she hadn’t made a single mistake.
He signed and applied his Examiners Stamp to the exam and put it back in his jacket.
He finished his tea and walked back out to the flight line. He watched the sky and after a few moments he saw the trainer approaching. He watched as Ammie lined up and holding a few extra knots in compensation for the gusty wind, touched down gently. She taxied to the ramp and shut down.
Pete walked over and Talley asked, “Well?”
“Congratulations, Talley, your student achieved a perfect score on her written. Congratulations, Ammie a very nice job. I was feeling a little guilty that we took so long getting you through your training program, but it’s obvious that you put all that time to good use.”
Pete handed the test booklet to Talley, “hang on to this please, and we can fax it and her license forms in after I give her the flight exam.”
Talley laughed, “Pretty sure of the results are we?”
Pete nodded, “Pretty sure. Considering this wind, that was a pretty landing.”
Pete and Ammie climbed in and buckled up, Ammie ran her checklist and Pete instructed her to start up, contact the tower and take off. “Head to the practice area”, he told her.
They did a complete set of basic maneuvers including both power on and power off stalls. On turns about a point Pete was particulary impressed. She held a good center despite a wind out of the East that was gusting to nearly thirty knots at their altitude.
On the way back to the field the wind had shifted, coming almost out of the North and Pete reached over and pulled the throttle off. “Engine Failure”, he said.
Ammie declared power off landing on the grass strip off the port wing. Ammie nursed her altitude, and managed her speed they were lined up and the turbulence was bouncing the trainer petty hard. Ammie was calm and attentive to her tasks. She was holding some extra speed and the touchdown was hard, but controlled. She dumped flaps, and came hard on the brakes. “I wish we had thrust reversers” she muttered.
Pete smiled, thinking it wouldn’t be long before she transitioned to jet aircraft which did have thrust reversers.
She brought the aircraft to a safe stop and Pete told her to takeoff and take them home.

Talley watched them touch down and taxi back to the ramp. Ammie shut down. Pete made a few final notations on his clipboard and opened his door. The wind rocked the aircraft. Ammie looked over at him, “should I tie it down or put it in the hangar?”
“Tie it down, we’ll let the line kitties fuel and put it away.”
Talley waited for them by the door to the Café. The temperature had plummeted and the field was now experiencing cold 45 knot gusts. Weather was calling for snow flurries later in the evening. They stepped inside and got a booth. Pete made notations on several sheets, stamped several others and finally signed the last page. He asked for Ammie’s log and again made several notations and stamped several pages and finally stamped and signed the page of her log where she had recorded her flight exam. Pete said, “If you want I’ll Fax this in now and we should get confirmation right away.” Talley agreed instantly.
Put stood up and turned to Ammie, “Congratulations Ammie, You’re a licensed pilot, and a very good one, that was a pretty tricky landing out there, and you never scared me once. Now, I’m sure Talley will want to talk to you for a few minutes, so I’ll leave you both to chat.
Pete left and Talley said, “Ammie, I’m so proud of you! Do you know that you’re one of only six pilots ever to get a perfect score on the FAA written exam. I have something for you, I’ll be right back.”
Talley went out to the Lear Jet, stepped aboard and came back with a fairly good sized box. She entered the café and presented it to Ammie. Ammie took it unwrapped and found a Leather Flight Jacket with the Royal Squadron Crest. Talley reached in the pocket of her flight suit and handed over a small leather box. Ammie opened it and removed the sterling silver wings of a Royal Pilot.
“Nicely done, Ammie, Very nicely done” Talley said.
Pete watched the two friends share a hug and saw the pride that both of them had in their accomplishments.

Hi Ammie!
I hear you will be testing for your private pilot's license soon! I wish you the best of luck, but with your skills you won't need luck! The little pumpkin in the picture is Mom's grandson baby George! He looks so happy!

We had problems getting on CC yesterday. At first Mom thought it was her computer, but she tried Dad's and the problem was not us, thank goodness! Anyway, we are back on. Mom's 2 days volunteering at the 2012 Petco Food Drive went better than last week, but Dad says he felt like he donated as much as Hills Science Diet is matching! MOL! Dad kept coming in to buy food and donate it to Mom's table, to encourage people to do the same! Dad is a good human!

My Mom will be leaving us with Dad again because she will be going to San Diego for 10 days to see her Mom, my Grandma. Grandma is having surgery done on her eye because her glaucoma is getting worse. My Mom wants to be there with Grandma during the surgery and also because Grandma will be having her 83nd birthday during this time. I am sad to say we will be off line from CC from Nov. 10 thru Nov. 20. My Mom is very sad she will be away during Queen Lily's reign and Sir Steve's catpaign, but she will try to get to a computer when she can. My sisters and I will miss everyone too and we will read the blogs we missed when Mom gets home.

I left a vote my dear furfriend with purrs and hugs and some cat proverbs to make you meow!

Arabian Proverb: The cat was created when the lion sneezed.
African Proverb: If stretching were wealth, the cat would be rich.
Norwegian Proverb: It is better to feed one cat than many mice.

Cyndee, Zoe Monique, Dasher, Thundie, Mallow, Talley and Lola take off their helmets and start to sing:

" Here we come to trick or treat, trick or treat, trick or treat.
Here we come to trick or treat, knocking on your door.
Please give us some catnip sweet, catnip sweet, catnip sweet.
Please give us some catnip sweet, and we will purr a thank you song!!"

-Happy Halloween Ammie!! - They say and give their friend a big pumpkin basket full of tuna muffins and catnip chocolates along with a huge bunch of whisker kisses. They also give Ammie two pink roses in name of the honorary Hairballz Rainbow Riders members Angel Yum Yum and Doodlebug.

Trip To Best Friends Animal Sanctuary-Part 2
We arrive at the Welcome Center, a comforting place in itself, complete with a lucky fish pond and frequently visited by hummingbirds. Sir Steve is eyeballing the hummingbirds and Angel Queen Gracie gives him soft slap with her angel wing! Lily laughs and reminds everyone to be on their best behavior!

There are seven distinct animal areas at the sanctuary: Bunny House, Cat World, Dogtown, Horse Haven, Parrot Garden, Piggy Paradise, and Wild Friends. Since we are only here for the day, our plan is to visit the residents of Cat World. As visitors for a day, the cats at the sanctuary truly appreciate the time you spend with them. Visitors are encouraged to spend quiet time petting and getting to know these furbabies.

The kitties & furangels all stay together and walk toward the huge building called Cat World. It's a little like the jungle. So quiet and peaceful when you first step in, you can hear your feet on the gravel.

But when you get into the thick of it, you see the eyes of cats all around you, peering from their screened porches. Here at Cat World, felines rule (as some of them say it should be!) And every cat finds a place to rest from what was, until now, life's long hard journey.

Step into any of the adoption rooms, and you'll be surrounded by personable cats, rubbing your legs, meowing with big eyes, even reaching out paws to tap you. These are definitely the "pick me!" rooms.

There are kittens too! The Nursery is full of big-headed, tiny-bodied baby cats with circular, unblinking eyes.

Stray litters snuggle together with their brothers and sisters. Lost kittens who come in by themselves get roommates as soon as possible. Though the cats are safe here at Best Friends, sadly most cats would rather be in homes than live in a place even as nice as Cat World.

The special needs section is filled with cats with a variety of special needs. Some have FIV, neurological disorders, or other medical conditions that make them special. Here they all live a life of dignity, receiving the medical care, food, attention and love they need to heal from a hard life’s journey and maybe even prepare for permanent homes.

And some are just older. In fact, one of the cutest rooms in all of Cat World is reserved for older folks. The cats in there are gentle, affectionate retirees who are healthy - but they're just not spring chickens anymore. How much longer will they be around? Who can say!

The message of every cat with special needs is, "Let's just enjoy the time we have now."
