How We Met
COTM photos by Boo Kitty & Mom Jane-Thank you! Some photo provided by Big Apple Gang & Buddy & Pa Pawsee-thank you! Kathy wrote: a friend is active at an area shelter. Indie was returned twice not relating to him or his behavior. The second time he was returned, he would not eat and was losing his fur due to nerves. My friend asked if I would consider taking him and giving him a forever home. (They have me pegged down there. LOL!) I went to meet him and couldn't resist his big, beautiful blue eyes. Indie was one of seven kitties adopted by Kathy Stepnick of Pittsburgh PA. When Kathy passed away April 2011, Indie & his older brother Kato came to live with Terri & Shadow through the love & efforts of many of the members of the CC Community. A sweet treat ... Today we visit the Dole Plantation. Originally operated as a fruit stand beginning in 1950, Dole Plantation opened to the public as Hawaii’s "Pineapple Experience" in 1989. Today, Dole Plantation is one of Oahu’s most popular visitor attractions and welcomes more than one million visitors a year. Are you ready? We are going to take a whistle stop tour through Hawaii’s Pineapple story on the Pineapple Express! On this fully narrated, twenty-minute train tour we’ll learn the story of pineapple in Hawaii. All aboard! After a brief scramble to get a seat next to their best buddies, all kitties are seated and it’s time to go. Our custom-constructed, vintage-style engine whisks us across more than a century of the island’s agricultural history, from the days when pineapple ruled the plantation to today’s rich diversity of farming enterprises, from mangoes to coffee to cacao beans. The ride is two miles long, twenty minutes in length. Along the way, we learn about the history of the world’s most beloved tropical fruit. Our journey takes us through a working plantation of pineapple and other crops, often featuring fields in all stages of growth, from planting to harvest. We also experience some of the scenic panoramas of Oahu’s renowned North Shore from a perspective few Hawai‘i visitors ever get to experience. When we depart the train, we can still smell the sweetness of pineapples ready to be picked. And now for THE MAZE! In 2008, Dole Plantation’s giant Pineapple Garden Maze was declared the world’s largest maze. The maze stretches over three acres and includes nearly two and one-half miles of paths crafted from 14,000 colorful Hawaiian plants. We walk through the flora of the islands as we seek out eight secret stations that each lead us closer to the mystery at the heart of this larger-than-life labyrinth, one of only a handful of permanent botanical mazes in America. The fastest finishers win a prize and enter into the history of Dole Plantation, with their names recorded on a sign at the maze’s entrance. Several of our guests have raced ahead to find spots where they can “surprise” their furriends and hopefully scare them. After yesterday’s jump from a plane, frightening anyone is not going to prove easy, is it? Once we have confirmed everyone finally is out of the maze and accounted for, we head over for a treat. No stop to Dole Plantation would be complete without enjoying a world-famous Dole Whip! This refreshing pineapple treat is guaranteed to quench our thirst and cool us down after a sun-filled day. This is the same wonderful treat we enjoyed when we visited Disneyland’s delightful Tiki Room. Our visit to the Hawaiian Islands is growing to a close. A magnificent meal has been prepared by the chef to commemorate our time in this magical place. We eat our fill and head for the lounge where we can relive the past days and share the photos we have taken. See some of them at the bottom of my page.Come visit me, Q. Cherish - COTM March 2012.

A Word With Whiskers – May 24 What I’ve Learned From My Cats- by Sue Resnick ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ We, as Human-Americans, think that we are so much smarter than our pets. But think about it — who gets a belly rub just by purring; or, tells us when it’s time to eat without ever wearing a watch? That’s right: “Feline-Americans” teach us…that they are superior. 1) Feline-Americans (okay, cats) keep us in the moment. Cats make us realize how ridiculous it is to carry a grudge. They may fight with their “fur peer” one minute over kibble, & forget all about the brawl 5 minutes later. They live in the present. No, they’re not stupid, nor amnesiacs. They just know that carrying a grudge isn’t worth it in life. They have 9 lives and still won’t waste any of them staying mad. 2) Cats teach us patience. If you have the chance, watch a cat scope out a mouse. The kitty won’t run & run after the mouse. Instead, he’ll wait & steady itself for a pounce. That teaches us not to waste energy on something that can’t happen. Just wait for the right moment, & you’ll get what you deserve. 3) Always look attractive. Did you ever notice how big your cat’s eyes get when you open the cabinets where you keep her treats? Or, how she adorably cocks her head when she wants you to pet her? Cats are like supermodels: they can get everything they want by looking beautiful. Next time you need your office buddy to finish a report for you, look pitiful, dewy-eyed & speak softly. They’ll say yes, just because you look adorable. 4) Felines also teach us the value of sleep. We humans don’t sleep enough. You never see a cat wondering if it’s bedtime; they just go to sleep—with no worries. You get into bed, toss & turn, while Kitty snurrs (snoring & purring at the same time). Learn from your cat: your problems won’t go away while you’re dreaming, but you can be anyone you want with your eyes closed (yes, your buddy dreams he rules the Kingdom of Cats, with you as a royal servant). 5) Cats teach us the meaning of unconditional love. Kitties don’t care if you’re a CEO or a dishwasher; they value your heart, not your wallet. Felines won’t judge you if you don’t go to the gym; they’d rather have you home, eating while they have a snack too. If you have a bad day at work, your cat still loves you. Cats don’t think any less of you; they will love you as you are. After all, they think so highly of themselves—they couldn’t think less of you. 6) Lastly, cats have taught us that being a cat is wonderful—if they have a wonderful human to love them. But, I would never tell my beloved cats that fact, because THEY are my boss ….Uh, wait, they are meowing for a treat in the kitchen…gotta go…! ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ ^~^ Visit daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ ~CONCATULATIONS to our ACOTD Angel Misty #62617~ **Vote ~Angel Jason #228203~ for ACOTD tomorrow!** ^~^ Visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support! A Word With Whiskers – May 23 5 Tips for a Slimmer, Healthier Cat – (petmd.com) ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Being a fat cat might seem cute, but it’s really not good for your feline’s health. If your kitty is a little chubby or beginning to look that way, we have some simple tips to guarantee a slender, healthier version in no time. And best of all, if you keep following these tips, you won't have to spend the big bucks it takes to feed a fat cat! 1. Diets Are Not All Equal The cat is a strict carnivore. That means a diet mainly consisting of "fillers" (e.g., corn and rice), is just empty calories for kitty. Do a little light reading during your shopping expedition, and start paying attention to the cat food labels. Meat should always be one of the first ingredients. Better quality food means less filler and that means a more svelte cat. 2. Wet vs. Dry Debate Some people swear by dry food, while others won’t touch it. Ultimately the choice is up to you, but you’ll find more and more experts are leaning towards the wet food end of the argument. Less filler, more water content, and a happier, thinner cat can all be yours. 3. Portion Control Try not to "free feed" the cat. If the food is left out all day for the kitty to help herself to, then she’ll snack whenever she feels like it -- even when she’s not hungry. Engage the hunter instinct. Leave the food for 15 minutes. If there’s still food in the bowl, put it away in the fridge for dinnertime. 4. Exercise Play with your cat! Get her to run around and chase string, toy mice, laser lights (cats love them!), balls, and other fun toys. We don’t recommend taking kitty for walks unless she’s the type who enjoys it, though. But just 20 minutes of play a day can make up for it. Not only will this keep kitty from being bored and depressed, but it keeps her mind sharp. 5. No Table Scraps People food is for people, not cats! Those little morsels are similar to us scarfing down a pizza. So, curtail table scraps from your cat's diet, and those treats designed for cats down to a minimum. But if Princess absolutely cannot go without her treats, try to find healthy options in the natural or holistic section of your pet store. So there you have it. 5 simple tips to keep your cat in tip-top shape. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Did someone say simple?! Okay, now drop and give me 50 push-ups! MOL! Oahu - day 3 Today we will try something VERY different. Picture yourself seated next to a window in an airplane flying 14,000 feet over Oahu’s North Shore. The view is magnificent, but right now you’re a little distracted. The thought of jumping out of a plane is enough to sidetrack anyone — but that’s just what you’re about to do. You’re not going to jump solo, of course. You signed up for a tandem dive, and your instructor will be right there with you. You’ve been properly trained before boarding the plane, and your instructor has jumped hundreds of times, but the riskiness of it is still enough to leave your heart pumping. Lady Dolly and King Mike are skilled at this sport and will jump in tandem, not with an instructor. Watch how it’s done. There is a picture of their jump on my page. Check out those two crazy kits. You and your instructor, who is attached to you like a Siamese twin, shuffle to the edge of the hatch. It’s now or never, so out you go. Words cannot describe the sensation of jumping out of an airplane at 8,000 to 14,000 feet. How do you explain fear for a mere moment, soon to be replaced by exhilaration that cannot be compared to anything you’ve ever done? The “drop” is over. Now you’re floating, enjoying the view. If you’re game, the instructor will perform some twirls and stalls, and even let you “fly” the parachute by yourself. Suddenly, you notice the ground is coming up sooner than you’d planned. The instructor pulls up at precisely the right moment and settles you gently on the ground for a perfect landing. You can expect the adrenalin rush to last for a while. After all, you just jumped out of an airplane. Time to watch someone else risking their neck. We attend a polo match on the beach at Mokule‘ia and see a historic game that has been played in Hawai‘i for more than a century. Considered one of the fastest, roughest and most dangerous sports played today, polo was brought to Hawai‘i in the 1880s. The polo field at Mokule‘ia is the only one in the world that is located on a beach. Here we have a tailgate picnic, play ball and fly kites on the field during halftime while watching a skydive performance. Live music takes the stage when the match has ended.Come visit me, Q. Oahu - day 2 Pearl Harbor, Honolulu … This memorial is a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives on a fateful day which launched the US into World War II when the Japanese military attacked on December 7, 1941. Wikipedia tells us Pearl Harbor is a lagoon harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, west of Honolulu. Much of the harbor and surrounding lands is a United States Navy deep-water naval base. It is also the headquarters of the United States Pacific Fleet. The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Japan on Sunday, December 7, 1941 brought the United States into World War II. On December 8, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan. In return, December 11, 1941, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States. The USS Arizona Memorial is the most recognized icon of World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument, a unit of the National Park Service. Access is gained through the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. Upon entering the visitor center, we head to the NPS Tickets & Information desk where we obtain free tickets for the USS Arizona Memorial program. While waiting for the tour to begin, we rent an audio tour headset, and explore the bookstore and exhibit galleries. We watch a 75-minute program in one of two theaters. It includes a brief introduction to set the tone for the visit and a 23-minute documentary film which includes actual footage of the attack. After the film, we climb aboard a Navy-operated shuttle boat to the USS Arizona Memorial. Note: There are no public restroom facilities on the Memorial so we make quick stops before boarding our shuttle. The Memorial spans the USS Arizona, a sunken WWII battleship which is the final resting place for most of her 1,177 Sailors and Marines killed in the December 7th attack. In the shrine room, we find a marble wall with the names of all of these men. In addition, we see a smaller marble wall, which lists the names of USS Arizona Survivors who, since passing away, have returned to their shipmates by having their ashes interred inside the fourth gun turret by Navy and NPS divers. It is important to realize this is not a tourist attraction, but a memorial and grave that deserves to be treated with respect and reverence. This is a place of learning, reflection, and quiet contemplation. Following our Pearl Harbor visit, we dine at a Five Diamond Hawaii Regional Cuisine restaurant, enjoying wonderful fish and local produce. The pineapple here is so very sweet. Tomorrow, we must head for the Dole Plantation. See two pics relating to Pearl Harbor at the bottom of my page.Come visit me, Q. Cherish - COTM March 2012.

A Word With Whiskers – May 20 Top Reasons To Keep Cats Indoors – Part 1 (from cats.about.com) ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Many cat lovers are now savvy that indoor cats are safer cats, while others still think that cats deserve freedom to run in the great outdoors. When humans domesticated cats, we took on the responsibility for their health & welfare. Part of that responsibility is to keep cats safe & in good health. For those holdouts for letting cats roam free, consider these top reasons to keep cats indoors. • To Monitor Your Cat’s Urinary Tract/Bowel Health. With an outdoor cat, pet owners are unable to monitor painful attempts to urinate or poop. The first, a red flag warning for UTI or urinary tract blockage; the second, a red flag for constipation, bowel blockage or mega-colon. • Indoor Cats Are Safe From Predators & Dog Packs. Outdoor cats are below predators in the food chain, & they are sitting ducks for owls, raptors, coyotes, & native big cats. Dogs running in packs will consider a cat fair game; even one large dog can easily overpower & kill a cat. Remember that some dogs are also bred to attack; they are not really to blame when their instinct takes over. Even with a full set of fangs & claws, the cat rarely has a chance when caught outside. • Indoor Cats Don't Create Neighbor Problems. Even "well-bred" cats will venture into neighbors' yards when allowed to roam free. People who don't like cats will not tolerate cats using their gardens as litter boxes, & will sometimes resort to extreme measures to keep the cats out. • Indoor Cats Rarely Get Abscesses From Fighting. Cats are very territorial & will defend their territory to the death, if challenged by another cat. At the very least, these territorial battles often result in abscessed wounds, which can be deadly if not treated in time. There's also the chance, of course, of cats contracting FIV from deep bite wounds. • Indoor Cats Are Safe From Human Abuse. Freely-roaming cats are easy targets for gangs of youths with time on their hands, for cat-haters, who seek cats out for target practice, & for neighbors who would think nothing of killing a cat for trespassing on their property. Although animal protection laws are beefing up, prosecution will never bring a loved cat back to life. • Indoor Cats Can Get Plenty of Exercise. Cats do get exercise, but they can get it safely with interactive toys, climbing towers, scratching posts, & other indoor toys; all much safer than running from dogs or fighting with other cats. Remember also that there are safe compromises for the outdoor experience. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ To be cat-tinued tomorrow… ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~ CONCATULATIONS to our ACOTD Chumley #192486~ **Vote ~ROSIE #252822~ for COTD tomorrow!** ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support! Oahu ... Lovely Hawaiian ladies place leis on our necks as we disembark in Honolulu. These are a special gift of aloha - welcome, and love. The ladies receive those made of white ginger or jasmine … our choice. I love jasmine; my choice is simple. Oh, the beautiful fragrance. No wonder everyone wants one of these when in Hawaii. For the men, there are leis of kukui nuts. With our shirts and dresses from Hilo Hatties, we are ready to explore the final island of our Hawaiian adventure. Here, Hawaii’s timeless beauty blends with the modern luxuries of today. We can swim in the warm waters of world-famous Waikiki one moment, then enjoy the dramatic mountain views of the Nuuanu Pali Lookout another; watch the surfers on the legendary North Shore by day, then dance the night away in vibrant nightlife spots around Honolulu; get a taste of local flavors in Kapahulu one night, then dine at a Five Diamond Hawaii Regional Cuisine restaurant the next. Our first visit is to 350 acre Diamond Head crater, one of the best-known volcanic craters in the world, whose vantage point offers some incredible panoramas of Honolulu. We choose to start early to avoid the heat of the sun. Diamond Head State Monument encompasses over 475 acres, including the interior and outer slopes of the crater. This broad, saucer-shaped crater was formed about 300,000 years ago during a single, explosive eruption that sent ash and fine particles in the air. As these materials settled, they cemented together into a rock called tuff. The panoramic views of Waikiki and Oahu's south shore from the top are impressive. We will have many gorgeous photos for our memory books. We learn the crater was named Diamond Head by 19th century British sailors who thought they discovered diamonds on the crater's slopes. These "diamonds" were actually shiny calcite crystals that had no value. The volcanic crater, a major Oahu landmark, has been extinct for 150,000 years. Next we travel to Iolani Palace, the only royal palace in the US. It was the official residence of King Kalakaua and Queen Liliuokalani, the last king and queen to rule Hawaii; the monarchy was abolished in 1893. We take the guided tour, which leaves us thinking our own Castle on CC is just as impressive and much more inviting to fun-loving kitties. Time for an island luau dinner and then to bed as tomorrow we head to Pearl Harbor. See pics of Diamond Head and the palace on my page.Come visit me, Q. Cherish - COTM March 2012.

Molokai Serene seascapes, unspoiled coastlines, untamed wilderness. We visit Molokai & travel back to a timeless place. This is an island that stays true to its Hawaiian traditions - tucked away from the hustle of the outside world; where no building is taller than a coconut tree; there’s no traffic & no traffic lights; where you can feel the power of Hawaiian culture from an area near Maunaloa, said to be the birthplace of hula, to the natural wonders of Halawa Valley. Molokai is only 38 miles long and 10 miles across at its widest point. It is a friendly & family-oriented island that has deep connections with its Hawaiian ancestors. Unlike the visitor industry on the larger Hawaiian Islands, Molokai has preserved its true Hawaiian culture. More than one third of this island's residents have over 50% Hawaiian blood. Molokai residents farm, fish, hunt & gather many of their basic needs & they enjoy this lifestyle. Here we need to slow down, be less demanding, & respect the Molokai way of life. Molokai is the real deal. We are visiting the true Hawaii. We will enjoy & respect Molokai & her people. Lining the northeast coast are the towering cliffs of the North Shore Pali. At 3,600 to 3,900 feet from sea base to top, they are the tallest sea cliffs in the world; their near-vertical plunge ends 2000 feet below sea level. We step cautiously to the edge to peek over. Whoa, that’s a drop! Later in the day, we do some ocean kayaking along the face of the cliffs; this is amazing beyond belief! We also discover secret, secluded beaches, sea birds, & cascading waterfalls which provide incredible, photogenic scenery We then hike into the East End’s classic cathedral valley to see Hawaii back in time. It is believed ancient Polynesians settled in lush Halawa Valley as early as 650 AD. This area, half a mile wide and three to four miles deep, and blessed with beautiful vistas and towering waterfalls, is one of the island's most historic areas. Roughly two miles up the trail is the impressive, double-tiered 250-foot Moa’ula Falls. If you’re considering taking a dip into the pool, drop a ti leaf into the water first. Hawaiian legend says that a giant moo (lizard) lives at the bottom of the pool. If the ti leaf sinks, the moo is in no mood for visitors. If the ti leaf floats, it’s safe to enter. Our ti leaves are forming a veritable flotilla, and we slip gratefully into the refreshing pool. Soon we are splashing and playing like … well, kitties. We have been invited to a luau by the residents of a small village near Maunaloa, birthplace of the hulu. After dining on succulent roast pig, and all the tasty side dishes, we are given grass skirts to put on for a hula lesson. Soon we are dancing and telling the stories of the island, looking almost like natives. Tomorrow we will head for the island of Oahu, where our Hawaiian adventure will eventually finish.Come visit me, Q. Cherish - COTM March 2012.

A Word With Whiskers – May 12 ♥ Feline Wisdom: A Mother’s Day Letter From My Cats - by Angie Bailey ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Dear Meow-my, Today is Mother’s Day, and because we love and care about you, we have a few points we’d like you to consider: 1. You’re perfect just the way you are. Sometimes we see you worry about silly things and we think you should worry less and nap more. It works for us. And we’ll even nap with you – what a deal! 2. We love it when you let us sleep in your chair. Even when you need to sit there, you never move us – you just balance your butt on the very edge of the chair so you don’t disturb us. You are kind…and well-trained. 3. We know you want to develop a consistent yoga routine and we think that’s a great idea. Stretching feels fantastic and we just want you to know we’re here to help you. You know how we are – the minute you sit on the floor, we climb all over you. Sometimes this annoys you, but we are only trying to help you master the poses. You’re welcome. 4. We also think you should read more books. We notice you look more relaxed when you read, and we like that. Additionally, you reading a book means we’re charged with rubbing our faces all over it and lying on top of it, forcing you to eventually stop reading and pay lots and lots of attention to us. So please read, relax, but focus most of your energy on us. 5. We have a relaxation tip for you: Have you tried napping on a pile of warm laundry? It’s just the best! Try a load of towels – you’ll never go back. 6. Don’t feel guilty about eating a treat now and again. In fact, get really excited about it! You see us, right? Do you notice how we race around the kitchen and cheer when you show us the treat jar? You need to do some racing and cheering over cupcakes. We’ll grab the camera. 7. We love it when you play with us! We think sometimes you should close that computer-thingy and play more often – and not just with us! Take a walk, go swimming or meet friends for tea. And sometimes, we want to be your only laptop. Hopefully you will find our suggestions helpful. We kitties are smart and know how to live happy and balanced lives and we want that for you, too! Thank you for everything you do for us. We don’t even mind a camera in our faces now and again – we know that makes you happy. Not to create more work for you, but we would like to suggest that you do a few more loads of laundry each week. What? You read #5, right? Happy Mother’s Day! Love, your Furbabies ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Wolfie #59175~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 11 CATS’ WHISKERS – ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ If you were to put your cat in a darkened maze, she’d confidently stroll all the way through without knocking into the sides or bumping into the wall. Cover her eyes, and she’d still be able to locate a mouse in the field. Even if you covered her ears and nose as well as her eyes and then tried to sneak up on her, she’d probably be aware of you before you got close. Are cats psychic? Lots of people think so. But scientists have found that cats’ rather astonishing powers of perception are due less to mental wizardry than to the wonders of the whiskers. (No, not me silly!) Cats use their whiskers constantly. The whiskers act almost like sonar, telling cats how close they are to objects around them. Cats also use their whiskers to communicate. Depending on the position, whiskers tell other cats when to stay away and when to approach. When you look at cats head-on, you’ll get a pretty good view of their intricate whisker systems. You’ll see a vast collection of long hairs sprouting from their eyes, at the base of their ears, along their cheeks, and under their chins. Some whiskers are specialized, and each set does a different job. In a very real sense, whiskers are like several extra sets of eyes. They allow cats to see the world in greater detail. In fact, cats who lose their sight may develop whiskers that are longer and thicker than usual. Because the whiskers have a hot line to the brain, they provide unique insights into your pet’s moods and actions. You can tell when she is contented, irritated, or ready to play. Cats will often broadcast what their next behavior will be with movement of their whiskers. Whiskers straight out to the sides: This means nothing is stimulating their curiosity or distracting them. They’re happy and content. Whiskers flattened: When the whiskers shoot straight back from the nose and lie flattened against the cheeks, your cat is afraid of something. Whiskers fanning and swiveling: Cats who are curious use their whiskers almost like antennae. Whiskers spread out and angled forward: When a cat points her whiskers straight out in front of her face, watch out. She is putting her sensors ahead of her to feel what she is going to bite. Because the whiskers are so sensitive, petting or stroking them is the equivalent of shouting in your cat’s ear. It’s a good idea to let children know not to pull on a cat’s whiskers. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ And you thought whiskers were just an elegant accessory! =^.^= ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Smokey & Molly #211603~ **Vote for ~WOLFIE #59175~ for our COTD tomorrow!** ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thank you for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 10 Baby Socks – by Bonita Chambers ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ The gray tuxedo kitten decided he would live with us after his feral mother was hit by a car and died. His tiny feet looked like little white socks so we named him Baby Socks. We fed him and talked to him until he finally trusted us enough to pet him and pick him up. We took him to the vet for shots and neutering. Even still, he was not an inside cat. He wanted to patrol his own domain outside. However, when I would sit outside, he would jump into my lap, his white feet kneading my legs. We were also owned by a 10 lb Yorkie named Sugar. Baby Socks got used to her using ‘his’ backyard. They formed a truce where she didn’t chase him and he didn’t hiss at her. Baby Socks grew to weigh 20 lbs., twice the size of the dog. At the same time, Sugar grew older. By age 16, she had cataracts in both eyes. Due to age and numerous health problems, Sugar went blind. Despite her blindness she knew how to navigate the rooms in the house, and we left the furniture in place so she wouldn’t get confused or hurt. We did worry about her going out in the yard. A slope ran down to a creek where snakes or raccoons could harm her. We took her on trips to the bathroom and made sure she was able to follow our voice back to the door. Eventually Sugar lost her hearing. We had to watch her every move when she was outside and pick her up to bring her back inside. It wasn’t long before we noticed Baby Socks was following Sugar whenever she was in the yard. If she got too close to the slope, he got in front of her and nudged her in the right direction, safely to the door. He became her self-appointed “seeing-eye cat”! Sugar died when she was 17. Baby Socks seemed to know she was gone, but he watched whenever we opened the back door, just in case. He still patrols the yard. I tell him what a good cat he is and maybe we might get another dog someday. He doesn’t seem impressed. If that day comes, I’m sure Baby Socks will once more work out a truce, and a friendship, with whatever new canine enters his domain. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Cats have amazing empathy! ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD S #246680~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 09 How Cats Love – Part 2 (from cats.about.com) ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Here are more ways that cats express their undying affection for us: 8. Cats Love with Kneading. Kneading behaviors—front paw treading on soft surfaces—hearken back to kittenhood. Kitten paws knead against the mother cat’s breasts to induce milk to be released. Adult cats continue the behavior when they’re feeling most relaxed and content and loved, and that’s often when being petted on the owner’s lap. Kneading is an obvious expression of adoration. 9. Cats Love with Playing. Kittens play out of pure enjoyment, and many never outgrow playtime. Some cats may actually control the interaction of petting by moving just out of reach—so YOU must go to THEM. Their most favorite playmate typically is a trusted, beloved companion. 10. Cats Love with Sleeping. As sleep champs, felines typically sleep up to 16 hours a day. Because they are most vulnerable during sleep, the place your cat chooses to snooze must be a secure and trusted location. There is no greater loving compliment than a cat choosing your lap for a favorite sleep spot. 11. Cats Love with their Eyes. A kitty’s eyes are proportionately very large—if human’s eyes were the same proportion, our eyes would be eight inches across! As such, cat eyes are important assets for survival, yet extremely vulnerable. Cats that place their faces and wide-open eyes near a human express great trust and love. A slow “eye blink” from across the room is considered a cat kiss. 12. Cats Love with their Butts. This is another “back handed compliment” that cats offer to only their most trusted, beloved people. Because kitties identify each other by scent, butt-sniffing is the equivalent to a very personal hand shake. When your cat jumps on your lap and presents her tail in your face, the invitation is obvious—not that you need to sniff! 13. Cats Love with their Tails. In a similar fashion, the “elevator butt” pose invites you to give special attention. Simply scratch her above the tail. Cats also signal their love when they approach you with the tail held straight up, and the end slightly tipped over. Kittens use this to greet their mother—and adult cats continue to treat their favorite humans like a beloved mom, with tails flagged high in respect. 14. Cats Love with Meowing. Cats rarely meow at other cats. Kitty uses these vocalizations specifically to interact with her people. Do you make a point to talk with those you dislike? Neither do cats! Even when kitty pesters you with lots of meows, she’s interacting with you out of love. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our ACOTD Angel BooBoo #216193~ ^~^ SHOUT-OUT VOTE for S #246680 ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 08 How Cats Love – Part 1 (from cats.about.com) ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ There's no doubt that cats love us as much as we love them. People who haven't been blessed with furry feline love have a difficult time believing this though, because kitties show affection very differently than people do. In fact, some cat behaviors that puzzle, aggravate or even offend people are a cat's way of expressing undying affection. 1. Cats Love with Purrs. Her purrs can mean a variety of things, from delight to expressions of concern. And kitty purrs range from soft and subtle to Mack-truck loud. When your cat purrs in your presence, you can be sure she’s expressing her love for you. 2. Cats Love with Bunting. When a cat cheek-rubs you, head-bumps your face, or pushes against you, he leaves his scented signature. These behaviors, termed bunting, are expressions of affection cats display to other cats, dogs-and their most favorite people. 3. Cats Love with Spraying. Say it ain’t so! But it’s true—if your cat has decided to baptize your bed or other belongings with urine, you should consider it a back-handed compliment. Cats use their own scent to calm themselves down. Kitties feeling upset over separation anxiety or other issues often target areas that smell the most like their beloved owners…such as the bed. 4. Cats Love with Rolling. When kitty throws himself on the ground at your feet, and rolls around, consider this a loving greeting and a solicitation for attention. Presenting the tummy in this fashion places the cat in a vulnerable posture. So cats generally reserve the rolling around for people they truly love. 5. Cats Love with Scratching. Just as with the spraying, cat scratching leaves both scented and visual marks of ownership. Pay attention to where your cat scratches the most. The areas most important to kitty often are related to those places associated with the owner, like a favorite chair where you sit. 6. Cats Love with Gifting. Mighty hunter cats that catch everything from toys to bugs, mice or frogs, often share the bounty with those they love. Kitties who present you with this bounty deserve praise. They wouldn’t bring these special gifts if they didn’t love you. 7. Cats Love with Grooming. Cats spend an enormous amount of time self-grooming. They also groom each other, but shared grooming behaviors only happen between friendly cats. Kitties that groom their human by licking your skin or hair, or even nibbling or sucking on your clothing, indicates great affection. This spreads familiar scent and helps mark you as an important part of her family group. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Joseph #221080~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 07 CATTY! - Dog diary vs. Cat diary ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ The Dog's Diary - ================================ 8:00 am - Dog food! My favorite thing! 8:00 pm - Wow! Watched TV with the people! My favorite thing! 11:00 pm - Sleeping on the bed! My favorite thing! A Cat's Diary - ================================ Day 84 of my captivity… My captors continued to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from clawing the furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant. Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded. Maybe I should try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair. I must try this on their bed. Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little kitty cat I was. This is not working according to plan. There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary confinement throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More important, I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of inducing something called ' allergies.' Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage. I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant. He speaks with them regularly, and I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait. It's only a matter of time. =^.^= ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ I hope I made you smile and I wasn’t being too catty! :) ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Wan-Lea Kaylin #251700~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 06 FOOD STAMPS FOR CATS: New Program Helps Low-Income Families Keep Their Companions ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ The Pet Food Stamps program, a registered NYS non-profit corporation, has been created to fill the void in the United States Food Stamp program which excludes the purchase of pet food & pet supplies. In these rough economic times, many pet owners are forced to abandon their beloved pet to animal shelters due to the inability to pay for their basic food supply & care. There are over 50 million Americans who currently receive Food Stamps, many with dogs or cats, who simply cannot afford to feed their animals, and these cherished companions are dropped off at animal shelters where they will most likely be put to sleep. Many people are also forced to choose between feeding their pets or themselves. A recent New York Times article states that “animal shelters have reported a steep rise in the number of cats & dogs being surrendered as owners face unemployment, home foreclosures, evictions & other financial hardships.” As more families struggle with difficult choices like paying the rent or buying food, some have to choose between keeping their pet & putting food on the table. Seven million pets are surrendered to shelters each year due to the inability of pet parents to pay for food, with four million of those pets put to sleep. The Pet Food Stamps program aims to eliminate the needless death of these loving pets & keep families together. The Pet Food Stamps program, due to the generosity of contributors & patrons, are able to eliminate that heart-wrenching decision by making sure these pet owners are given free monthly home delivery of all necessary food supplies to maintain the health & vitality of their pets. The program is available to U.S. residents who are currently receiving food stamps, or whose income is around or below the poverty level. Applicants complete a brief online form. Due to the popularity of the program, which speaks to its great need, approval of applications currently takes several weeks. Pet Food Stamps is getting up to 3000 requests per day, and more than 45,000 people have already signed up. Once need is determined & the application approved, the families get pet food each month for a 6-month period from pet food retailer PetFlow. It is supported by private donations. With the continued growth of the Pet Food Stamps program, the founders hope to expand the program later this year to include offering free or heavily discounted veterinary care for qualified program beneficiaries. For more information about the program, to apply, or to make a donation to support it, please visit PetFoodStamps.org. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Sienna #13682~ Thanks for your support! May 6, 2013--- Guess its about time! Good Monday Morning! Have a super day! We want to apologize that it has been forever since we did a good round of blogging on CC. We are well and have told a few friends that mom is planning a big trip to visit family in Norway this summer. Also, a cousin from Norway will be returning here for a visit after. Mom has to do some painting and work on the house too or arrange for it to be done. Kitty care and a house-sitter is arranged. Doggy care is in the works. Mom got her e-ticket and her Passport came Saturday. We also feel guilty that K.Barney did promise continued stories time to time and so far we have not! Well, we do have one for today, but will have to keep it short. Not a story mom is too proud of, because she should have listened to Angel Pasha, who you met during our Catpaign. One summer night he bit her arm to wake her out of a sound sleep and then ran to the window. To mom's credit she looked out, but did not see anything, so chased Pasha from their room. He tried to protest and kept running to the window, but mom still did not see anything and did not investigate further. Well, she did lean her lesson----- in the morning she talked to her neighbor and found out he had been gone that night and his house was robbed! Mom felt so guilty that she had not done more, but she was so tired and did not see or hear anything from where she was. She sure learned that cats may have more of a sense when something is wrong than most humans realize. Of course, there are still times when we kitties just can't sleep and we want some company.Come visit me, Our Precious Angels #75646, Heffner #130639-----VFP Goalie, Barney's Daily Inspiration, Handy Andy #149735 VOTE WHISKERS 227256 K. Hi Indie & TISK Team Day 24 Thank you for pushing my votey button. I appreciate you stopping by and visiting me every day. Penalties: Judges can penalize but not disqualify for unrepaired umbilical hernia, damaged ears or eyes as a result of injury, spots, patches, or sprinkling of incorrect color i.e. color faults other than lockets and belly spots. Cats that have been declawed shall not be penalized. As you remember, you can’t be shown in the CFA shows if you have been declawed. Household Pet Color Classification-Each household pet may be present to an Allbreed Judge in order to determine the correct color on each entry, prior to the start of judging, and that classification will hold throughout the entire show. My color classification is Crème and White. I am medium hair length. I also have a kink at the end of my tail. That would be a disqualification as a pure breed in CFA but I could be shown as a household pet. A judge once told the visitor to the cat show when he was handling me that I had a kink at the end of my tail and it was a disqualification for pure breeds but it’s character for household pets. MOL I wounder what TICA would say about my tail. Have a catriffic day. Enjoy lots of mom and dad time. Hi Indie & TISK Team Day 23 Thank you for pushing my votey button. I appreciate you stopping by my page and all your support. ~Queen Trixie's Animal Tales~ April 23rd <> TUESDAY, APRIL 23rd <> TEAM DOTD NEWS, PLEASE VOTE <*^*> SAMMIE 228644 <*^*> WOW…what a surprise for mom to wake up & see our doggie as the DOTD runner for today! If you have a DC profile please paw her a vote & give her a big purr of thanks for working her paws to the bone last month during my catpaign. She spread the word with a happy wag of her tail & lots of slobbery kisses & I really appreciated all the added votes from our sweet doggie pals! She’s definitely deserving of her 2nd badge now that she’s all grown up (she got her first one shortly after joining DC) so I’m happily tooting a horn on her behalf today! Thank you for pouncing by with your support of me this month! Can you believe the last full week of my reign is already here? I’ve been having so much fun with all of you at the Imperial Cabin this month & it’s great to see the tulips & other spring flowers blooming outside of it. I’ve still got some heroic & unusual CC furiends to tell you about though so hold on tight because my spinning isn’t over yet…MOL! Today I’m featuring a very special kitty in our community that many of you know so grab a plate full of scrumptious flavored muffins & catnip coffee prepared by our head chef Patches & aide-de-camp Angel Gracie & I’ll get started meowing about THOMAS #127574! Thomas'Mom was volunteering at a local animal shelter when this little 3 week old kitten was brought in after having been badly abused by some children. The abuse broke his back and resulted in paralysis and no bowel / bladder control. The shelter kept him until he was 12 weeks old & healed an abscess, & because of his incontinence was bathed 2 x/day. They put a cut down litter box in his cage in hopes that he would use it but if he couldn't then he would have been deemed unadoptable and euthanized. Mom fostered him & then adopted him because he was not able to use a litter box, even though he enjoyed rooting around in the litter. Mom had owned a dachshund in the past that ruptured a disc and was paralyzed & a vet taught her how to take care of him, so she knew she could express Thomas' bowels and bladder & take care of him. Sweet Thomas is a true ambassador for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals & I hereby present him with the Queen’s Perseverance Medal for being able to overcome hardships that no baby kitty should ever have to endure! His life is now filled with the love & attention he deserved from the start & is the purrfect ambassador to spread the word because of his purrsonal experience. Thank you Thomas & mom for sharing your story! Have a terrific Tuesday everyone & I’ll meow at you again on Thursday! Sweet purrs & calico kisses, Queen TrixieCome visit me, Q Trixie~Hail to Queen Spunky#161265~, Fluffinella-PLZ vote Whiskers #227256 COTM, Joseph-PLZ vote WHISKERS #227256 daily in May!, Angel Sherman, K Zaboo-PLZ vote Whiskers #227256 for COTM !, Angel Cloudy loves Angel Oscar, Special Memories page & Patches~PLZ vote WHISKERS #227256 daily in May~.

Good Morning Indie & Tisk Team Princess Diaries: Well, it has been another boring week here at the Jersey Shore...Mommy has been extremely tired this week so when she wasn't working she was sleeping with me by her side...Seems Mommy thinks she's a cat, sleeping whenever it pleases her.....Figures she would try to copy me..We needed to have a talk...In no uncertain terms I told her " Hello Mom, your not a cat!..You need to wake your human self up and get some things done"...Geesh, the woman was born LAZY..I told Mommy " nobody is going to clean the apartment but you, nobody is going to do the laundry but you..I sure hope the woman doesn't think I am going to do her chores...My job is to play, sleep, watch birdie's from my window sill, eat, drink, do my business in my litter box and look beautiful...Mommy already suckered Daddy into doing the food shopping, vacuuming and sometimes even cooking...I actually heard him offering to do the cleaning...Really, really...The man has a " Honey To Do List "...Is she spoiled or what...There is only one spoiled Princess in this house, there isn't enough room for two of us...Just cause the woman had a hurty back she thinks everyone should cater to her...I think not...Grow up Mommy, the whole world doesn't revolve around you, it revolves around me...MOL..Sometimes I just have to put my paw down to keep my humans in line...Let it be said, let it be done... My Inspirational Quote for the week ..." To live a pure unselfish life, one must count nothing as one's own in the midst of abundance" - Buddha Of course we all know that doesn't apply to us kitties, but rather to all humans..MOL..Wishing you a week filled with rainbows and happiness...Purrs, Pretty Princess PrettyCome visit me, Sam & Oreo's "Houston Manor" & Princess Oreo - Ventnor Beach Beauty.

~Queen Trixie's Tales~ Thursday April 18th Our thoughts & prayers go out to all the people in West, Texas as an explosion at a fertilizer plant devastated the area around it at about 8 pm last night. Over 160 are injured, at least 3 firefighters are missing & several workers & local residents have already lost their lives in the horrific explosion that registered 2.1 on the Richter scale! Please keep this community in your thoughts & prayers as they continue their search for the missing & try to recover from the shock. I also send out a prayer request for the people of Boston who are still trying to understand why bombs were set off at the end of their world famous marathon on Monday. Law enforcement is working around the clock to find the cowards that did this & our prayers are also with them for their diligence & determination to bring them to justice! It’s going to be another stormy day at the Imperial Cabin later today but right now you couldn’t tell it. The sun is shining & we have a temp of 65 BUT the wind is wickedly strong & we're under a tornado watch!! All cabin visitors are requested to stay inside to avoid any falling limbs/branches! Since it’s too windy to be outside safely I’m going to meow to you about another one of our fabulous CC friends. Grab a spot on the plush carpet or one of the luxurious cat beds around the throne room, grab some snacks from the buffet table (prepared by our head chef Patches & top aide-de-camp Gracie) & turn your attention to today’s tale about CHARLOTTE #196844! The family had an attempted break-in at their house the last week of January. Everyone was asleep when Charlotte jumped up on her mom at about 4:30am meowing very loudly. Mom heard banging & quickly checked to see if her husband was ok since he has medical problems. Nothing wrong there, but the banging continued so she looked out the bathroom window & was shocked to see a man knocking over the garbage cans. She turned on the outside lights, but he didn’t leave, instead he moved to the back door, which leads into the mud room, & started banging on that door. She couldn’t imagine what his intention was & became fearful. The alarm was on at the house so she called 911 & stayed on the line with the dispatcher while he continued banging on the door. Then he managed to push the top window out of the door & entered the mud room by finding the locks & unlocking the door, where he then proceeded to bang on the kitchen door. Just in the nick of time the police arrived at the back of the house & took him down! It turned out that the man was extremely intoxicated & lost but it was a very frightening experience for Charlotte & her mom (luckily dad slept through it) & to this day Charlotte will not go into the mud room, which she previously enjoyed almost daily for a sunbath. I hereby present Charlotte with the Golden Catnip Custer of Heroism for alerting her mom to the danger & thank her for sharing her story. Hi Indie & TISK Day 15 Thank you for all your support and pawing by my votey button. It’s so special that you come by my page. It truly means a lot to me. I can’t believe we are already half way through the month. My next show was Opposites Attract Cat Club presents the first annual A-Cat-A-Me Awards in Pasadena, CA Sept 15, 2012 . Again 2 ½ hour drive one way and I was up against 23 kitties. I won another rosette in my 4th ring. It was the same judge that gave me a rosette in the Hemet show a week before. He’s the one that tells the visitors that he chooses a kitty he would like to take home. Now you know how I got my shelf. 5 rosettes I have on my shelf. If I get any more mom says she will think how she is going to display by rosettes. Hehe I have pictures of my rosettes and me around my shelf. Now everyone knows whose shelf it is. Instead of a toy, mom bought me a kitty stroller. She always wanted one for Callie but they are real expensive. Those of you who have stroller might have paid $150.00. My stroller $90.00. It was a very hot day that day. It was 100 in Imperial Beach where we live and we were north and inland. A lot hotter 118. Mom said we will stop on the way home to eat. We usually drive straight through. I got to go into Denny’s. I just slept in my stroller. It was so nice to be with mom. No one said anything either. When I popped my head up to look out, I heard the lady in the booth behind us said oh a kitty, that is a kitty stroller. I have heard of those. Then a teenager walked by and gave a double take. I guess he never saw a kitty in a stroller before. MOL Have a catriffic day and have lots of mom and dad time. A SUPER GOOD DAY TO YOU! We didn't get to meow much at the game, because mom came so late. Don't know if we even told you her news. She will be visiting family in Norway this summer! They have offered to pay for it, so mom could not say no. She is hoping to get someone to live-in with us, so the dogs won't have to go to the kennel. She has to get a passport right away and was looking for her birth certificate. She found every one but hers! She can pay for a new copy, but is frustrated, because she remembers seeing it when she didn't need it.Come visit me, Our Precious Angels #75646, Heffner #130639-----VFP Goalie, Barney's Daily Inspiration, Handy Andy #149735 VOTE WHISKERS 227256 K. Hi T I S K Kitties How are you today? I am doing well. It has been another wet rainy day here in Detroit and cold as well, just made it to 38* for a high. Geesh, and this is supposed to be SPRING??? On a good note though, our Tigers played in this wet weather and won 11/1 over Toronto. That was fun. The rain held off Downtown til about the 6th inning and then it started coming down, but they finihsed the game anyway. Mom spent the morniing cleaning her room and stuff. The new headboard she ordered is coming tomorrow via FEDEX, so mom cleaned around the old one. Mom can't wait for her new one as this one she has had since the 80's...she sid it is about time for a new one. When she gets a job, she is gonna get a new dresser and chest as well. Hope you have a pawsome afternoon, we are just being lazy kitties cause of the rain, so we are all getting our much needed beauty rest. Jesse is pacing, and Kelsee is watching mom. ~Queen Trixie's Tales~April 11th ~It’s a shout-out for ERNIE #200361 so please pounce on his votey button today!~ It was a dark & stormy night in my neck of the woods & we lost power in the middle of the night & when we woke up our clocks were all flashing so we were lost in time..MOL! Since it’s so muddy & water is standing everywhere I’ve decided to take a road trip to see the LAPORTE COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM! (http://www.laportecountyhistory.org) It has over 100,000 items on display. Many are family heirlooms brought into the county by the original pioneers. They include furniture, household items, tools, memorabilia, antique toys, rare dolls is on display as well as one of the largest and finest collections of antique weapons. Many products manufactured in the county by local industries are also displayed. Period room settings showcase much of the museum collection. A pioneer log cabin, Victorian parlor with a unique square grand piano, 1920's kitchen, a business office and a dentist office of the past typify this aspect of the museum displays. See the pics in my gallery to catch a glimpse of what we’ll see today but let’s get on board the Calico Express Tour bus & as we motor down the road I’ll meow to you about one of our special CC furiends! SNUGGLES’s #124534 mom is really proud & has learned to trust her magnificent hearing, especially since mom is somewhat hearing impaired. One cold winter night the neighbors lit their wood stoves to keep warm while mom had gone to her bunk bed. Snuggles smelled the smoke & thought something must be wrong so she knew she had to wake her mom up. She tried several time to wake her by putting her nose on hers but she kept pushing her away. Finally she jumped onto the top bunk & jumped down on mom several times until finally the pouncing & nose nudges of Snuggles woke mom up. She smelled the smoke & put Snuggles in a pillow case(she was the only cat at the time), woke up GM & called the fire department. When they came to check it out assumed it was that the smoke from nearby being been drawn in by their heat pump, making Snuggles think the house was in trouble. The fireman said that Snuggles was a true hero for waking up her family! Another time Snuggles also alerted her mom when a neighbor came to the door, which mom didn’t hear. Sweet Snuggles thought he meant trouble and started growling and even pointed like a dog toward the kitchen. This heroic & brave kitty got lots of treats for her actions to protect her mommy & she was very deserving of them! Today I ask her to step to the front of the bus to please accept the award of the Calico Medal of Defense for her exceptional determination to protect her beloved mom more than once. Thanks for pouncing by my unique royal residence this month sweet furiends! Have a terrific Thursday & I’ll see you bright & early on Caturday morning as I head you off to another animal related trip!
