Another warm beautiful day in NH, hope it lasts !! ((¯`v´¯))Nature’s autumn palette ((¯`v´¯)) Your VOTE comes with a rainbow leaf bouquet tied with bows of iridescent ribbon. Fall’s changing colors are linked to cooling temperatures, decreasing sunlight and soil moisture. Chlorophyll gives plants their green color. Glucose is trapped in the leaves after photosynthesis stops. Sunlight and the cool nights in autumn cause the leaves to turn glucose into colors which become visible after the chlorophyll disappears. The bright red and purple fall foliage colors come from anthocyanin pigments, orange colors from carotene and yellows from xanthophyll. Different combinations of these pigments give us a wide range of colors each fall. Brown fall foliage colors come from tannin, a bitter waste product.
