Hello Rosie
Rumor has it that a jolly, chubby guy in a red suit will be coming to visit us soon. Did you know that he’s a spy? Yes, he watches us sleep & knows when we’re awake. He is also nosy because he finds out if we’ve been good or bad, naughty or nice. Stalker!

Purrsonally, this peeping tom sounds a little creepy to me. I am going to play it safe & stay hidden. I suggest you do the same. A girl can’t be too careful these days, you know!

Kisses,
Q Sissy

Good afternoon kitties....do you smell them cookies mom is baking?? Today's topic: MOVING ANXIETY!!

Your new home is beautiful. You & the family are going to be so happy here. But what's this?? Do you detect a sourpuss in the crowd? Is that your cat scratching up the furniture, urinating on the rug, looking for a place to hide or perhaps plotting an escape from your lovely new home?

BE A PACK RAT: If your kitty is particularly fond of a certain piece of furniture, take it along. Don't even thin k it won't fit in with your new home. Taking it along will make Fluffy feel comfy as she settles in. Her scent is on it, she's used to it and it is comforting to her.

GIVE HER THE SHIRT OFF YOUR BACK: One way to help your pet get used to a new place is to make her sleeping area smell like you. They can be much more relaxed if they smell something or someone familiar around them.

PROVIDE A QUIET SPACE: In the midst of moving, it's hard for your pet to get settled in her new abode. Be sure never to leave her locked in for more then 20 minutes and when you go to see her bring her in lots of treats and comfort her.

BE CONSISTENT: Keep as close to your old routine as possible after your move...it is very important for your pet to see nothing has to change. Pets need patterns and predictability, especially after a move. Walk Fido at the same time each day, let your cat sleep with you if she is used to it...feed them at the same time, it will make a big difference.

FOIL ESCAPE ARTISTS: It's critical to keep a close eye on your pet to ensure they don't sneak away while you're moving in. Never put your cat outdoors right after a move, wait for at least a month so she will be used to her new home...make sure fences are all the way to the ground to prevent escaping under them. Make sure you have her ID tags updated, so she should escape and is found, your new neighbor can know where to bring her home.

PLAN AHEAD: Try to schedule your move so someone in the family can spend several days at home with your pet before you run off back to work. The worst thing you can do is leave your pet alone in a new home all alone where he might feel abandoned.

~~~CATS ONLY~~~
KEEP HER NEARBY: It is not unusual for a cat to say adios to her new home and head back to her old 'stomping grounds' after a move. To prevent this, do not allow Fluffy outside alone for about a month, and after a month, you can take her outside on a leash for the first few weeks til she is used to her new yard. NEVER leave your cat outside alone for long periods of time.
Tomorrow: SINUS PROBLEMS!
Good evening kitties. Today's topic: OBESITY!!!
Is your pooch a little pudgy? Is you cat a wee bit fat? they're not alone. about 1 in 3 dogs and cats in the USA are overweight. That means there are some 39 million chubby pets waddling around.
BEGIN WITH THE RIB TEST: To tell if your pet is overweight or merely stocky, run your hand across his side. If you can't feel his ribs, you know it's time to trim his tummy.
GO WALKING: Many cats enjoy walking on a leash and are trained...but if Fluffy is not leash-trained, you can still play vigorously with her..try playing with feather wands or laser lights, but make her jump and run. You can take Fido out for a walk 10-20 minutes about twice a day.
CUT BACK ON CALORIES: When starting your pet on a diet, reduce the amount you feed him by about one-quarter. Then after 2 weeks, see if you can feel his ribs, if he is still too plump, reduce another 1/4 off his food.
NIX THE SNACKS: However tempting it may be to slip your pet a little something between meals, remind yourself that those are just additional calories he will be better off avoiding.
DOLE OUT LOW CAL TREATS: To please your pets palate without packing on the pounds, you might try giving him high-fiber, low-fat snacks from your kitchen..try green beans, raw carrots or unbuttered popcorn.
GUARD AGAINST THEFT: Dogs and cats{especially cats} can be really sneaky when they're not getting as much food as they are accustomed to. Keep garbage out of their reach, keep an eye on the table, keep bread away from cats..dieting cats go crazy for bread.
MAKE IT LIGHT: To help your pet slim down, switch her food to one that is high in dietary fiber and low in fat.
WHEN TO SEE HER VET: Your formerly svelte pet hasn't been eating more then usual, but he has begun to resemble a pot-bellied pig. There are a number of dangerous conditions, among them diabetes or congestive heart failure that make themselves known with weight gain...that is why you should always check with your vet before starting your pet on any diet.
TOMORROW: MOVING ANXIETY!!!
Hi Dame Rosie,
Oh my, it is just a few more days until Christmas. I am sooo excited and I am sure that you are too. Mom and Dad went to Walmart this morning and she quickly went upstairs with some of the packages. You know what I am thinking, gifts for us kitties. Hehehe.!!! Also, we finally got our internet fixed yesterday afternoon. It ended up we needed a new modem. Hard to believe that it was like pulling teeth to get this done. But, we are so happy that we are able to visit with our friends again. It is of course a football Sunday and Mom and Dad will be glued to the tv. I am going to snooze for a while and then perhaps Mom will take out the lazer toy. That is one of our Sunday activities. I hope that you will have a great day too. Purrs and a hug, Mittens...
Good afternoon/evening kitties! Today's topic is: BITING & NIPPING!
Kittens love nothing more than to stalk and pounce, sometimes delivering a painful bite in the process. Puppies like to bite/chew..on furniture, shoes or even you....but when puppies and kittens grow up and are still biting/nipping, here are a few tricks to keep it under control.
PROVIDE PLENTY OF TOYS: Dogs/Cats have a natural need to use their teeth. To help them put their mouths to good use, provide them with plenty of toys--and give them lots of praise when they use them.Dogs enjoy rubber or rawhide, while most cats enjoy cloth toys or a rubber mouse.
KEEP YOUR SKIN SAFE: Pets will chew what you give them, and if their "main" toy happens to be your hand, they are learning a dangerous habit. NEVER allow your pet to chew directly on you, give them toys instead.
GIVE HER A CHEWING OUT: The next time he points his teeth in your direction, look him straight in the eyes and firmly yell, "NO". Then ignore him for several minutes. Once he understands you are not happy with what he he is doing, he will try his best to please you next time.
SAY IT WITH SPRAY: The next time Fluffy or Fido tries a nip, spray him with a squirt bottle filled with water, after a few times of getting sprayed, he will get the hint.
***~~CATS ONLY!!!~~***
DON'T FIGHT BACK: It's natural to pull away when your ferocious feline sinks her teeth--in fear, fun or anger--into you. Unfortunately, that makes her instincts tell her to bite harder. So the next time she nails you, try to let your hand go limp for just a second until she relaxes--then pull your hand free and give her a firm scolding!
Good afternoon. Today's topic is: CONSTIPATION!!
Your cats litter box hasn't been disturbed all day. Your dogs pooper scooper is beginning to collect dust. Could your furry friends be irregular?? Dogs and cats rarely get constipated, but it can happen and when it does, here are a few tips to help them 'move'.
MOBILIZE WITH METAMUCIL: This OTC laxative contains Psyllium seeds husks, which pull water into the stool and help move things along. Ask your vet for the right dosage for your pets size. To make it more pleasing, try mixing it with a small portion of her fave canned food. Or just add it to her dry kibble....make sure you put plenty of fresh water nearby so the Metamucil doesn't congeal.
BRING ON THE BRAN: A sprinkle of oat bran every day can help keep constipation away.Depending on the size of your pet add 1/2 tsp to 2 TBSP of oat bran to his food daily.
PASS IT WITH PUMPKIN: Canned pumpkin is an excellent source of fiber that can make your pet regular again. The bonus is that both dogs and cats seem to enjoy it. Mix a TBSP or 2 in her food for several days or until she is regular again.
SEND IN THE COWS: You are always told never to give dogs/cats milk cause it causes diarrhea. But when you have a constipated pet, milk could be just what she needs. Give her 1/8 of a cup if she is small or 1/2 cup for larger breeds{Dogs}..when she is regular again, wean her off the milk gradually.
WET HIS WHISTLE: Water is essential to your pets health, always have plenty available. Try placing several bowls of fresh water all over your house. Water helps his digestive system stay in balance.
SAY NO TO BONES: Eating rib, chicken or other crunchy soft bones can cause things to get blocked inside...or your small animal may choke on one or cut their throat if they get cut on the splintered bone.
TAKE HER FOR A WALK {DOGS}: The longer you make her wait to go, the harder and drier the stools get and that can lead to problems quickly...give your dog plenty of potty time.
WHEN TO SEE THE VET: If you notice your pet has not 'gone' in days and everything you tried is n't working, call your vet asap..he may have a blockage preventing him from passing the stool. Your Vet can check out the pet and give you instructions on the course of treatment.
TOMORROW: NIPPING & BITING!
ood afternoon kitties. Today's topic: COUGHING!!!
Coughing is Nature's way of saying goodbye to dust, bacteria, tickly hairs and all other itchy things that sail into our throats...but in animals, coughing is UNUSUAL. While it normal for Fluffy to hack a hairball, constant coughing is something to look into.
PROTECT HIM FROM THE ELEMENTS: Like people, pets will occasionally cough in response to pollen, dust or even fumes from household cleaners. Try keeping your pet in another room when you clean and dust. Open windows if you can for him to breathe in fresh air...in warmer months you can keep him outdoors while you clean.
OUT DOWN THOSE SMOKES: You already know that smoking isn't good for you. It can be even worse for Fido and Fluffy. So do not smoke around your pets.
UP THE HUMIDITY: When air is dry, mucus in the throat & airways gets thick and sticky, signalling the body to cough. Take your pet in the bathroom when you shower and let him breathe in the moist air. Use a humidifier or a vaporizer in your home and it will help reduce the dryness in the air.
STOP IT AT THE SOURCE: If your pet is coughing more than once an hour, he can probably benefit from a cough suppressant. Use a product containing the active ingredient dextromethorphan, such as Robitussin Maximum Strength Cough Syrup. Ask your vet for the right does for your pet.NEVER give pets cough syrup containing aspirin or acetaminophen, which is dangerous to pets.
SLIP IT DOWN: If the cough syrup comes in a liquid form, tip the animals head up, pull the loose skin up from the mouth and make a funnel, then spoon in the proper amount.
TRY ANOTHER OTC: When coughing is caused by hay fever, giving an OTC like Benedryl can reduce the irritation..ask your vet for the proper amount to give your pet.
KEEP HIM TRIM: Weight is often a significant factor in older pets. Getting a few pound off of them will stop the coughing.
KEEP HER CALM: Stressful situations can trigger cough attacks. So when your pets symptoms flare up, give her extra love and attention until things are calm.
WHEN TO SEE THE VET: When pets start coughing, it is sometimes a warning sign that something serious is wrong, like pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis, or even a collapsed wind-pipe.
If Fido is coughing and also breathing rapidly or seems short of breath or has a swollen abdomen, get him to the Vet immediately.
Coughing is rare in cats, with the exception of expelling hairballs, so if Fluffy is coughing, take her to the Vet asap.
TOMORROW: CONSTIPATION!!
Today's topic: HIVES!
When your pets hind legs starts whirling like a propeller and you hear that 'thump, thump, thump' on the floor, you know there's something itchy going on.
TRY AN ANTIHISTAMINE: OTC medications like Benedryl block the effects of histamine, a body chemical that causes itching. Call your vet before administering it, he will recommend the proper dosage for your pet.
SCRATCH THE OINTMENTS: While topical medications like calamine or hydrocortisone cream can help relieve itching, they are not effective on pets and the animals will usually lick it off.
HANDS OFF: Rare is the cat or dog that won't appreciate your giving him an assertive scratch. In the case of hives, however, scratching only makes the itching worse, so keep your hands to yourself and do not scratch your pet.
TEST THINGS AROUND YOUR HOME: Pets can be allergic to everyday house-hold products, like soaps, shampoo, cleaning products, etc, or even to your deodorant. If you notice your pet itching after using something, try another product..this can take time, so you will have to be patient.
TRY DIFFERENT DIETS: Some pets are allergic to ingredients in pet foods. Try different formulas until you find one he can eat without an allergic reaction. You can also get creative and make your own. Cats especially like rabbit meat and cooked rice.
Your vet may also recommend a commercially prepared food made especially for allergic pets and they come in different varieties.
Thank you for your prayers & sweet Happy Adoptiversary wishes. I have good mews to share today! Dr. William called Mommy this morning to report that my levels have decreased even more after the IV fluids for 2 days. My BUN = 38 and Creat = 2.5. He wants me to finish this bag of fluids today, so Nana & Mommy will pick me up this afternoon.
I will visit Dr. William next week for another bloodwork recheck and sub-q fluids. Our goal right now is for me to receive sub-q fluids once a week. We hope & pray that plan works out. We will find out more next week.
Thanks again for your continued prayers. James 5:16 says “The intense prayer of the righteous is very powerful.” Amen to that!
Hi Dame Rosie,
How are you doing this evening? It has been a very hectic day here. First of all, we have been having a lot of trouble with our internet and Mom has made numerous phone calls to no avail. The soonest we can get service to come out is Thursday. Mom is very disgusted to be paying for a product that she considers sub-optimal. Then she has noticed that the pool water has been dropping so she took out the hose and started to put water back in to the pool. We had warmer weather today and tomorrow too so it is a good time to get the pool water level back up. Mom is hoping that there isn't a leak in the pool. All-in-all, a very tiring day and tomorrow Dad has another Dr. appointment. Mom says she will need a vacation when Dad gets back on his feet. Hehehe.!!! But, not to worry as I have been giving Mom and Dad plenty of purr therapy and I have been getting extra treats. Win- Win for all. I hope that you are having a good evening my friend. Purrs and a hug, Mittens...
Good afternoon kitties. Today's topic is: BLADDER CONTROL PROBLEMS:!!
Few things are less savory than discovering an unpleasant odor emanating from your potted plants or a puddle in your living room. Oh no, she has done it again. It is normal for puppies and kittens to make mistakes. But when your grown up pet has suddenly stopped making it to litter box or back yard on time, there could be something physically wrong.
HOLD THE NIGHTCAP: To help keep floors dry while you sleep, try putting out only a small amount of water at night. Don't stop the water entirely. For some pets going without water can be dangerous.
PROVIDE EXTRA BATHROOMS: When Fluffy has poor control, the last thing she needs is a litter box that's far away. To make sure she can get relief when she needs it, have an extra litter box on every floor.
KEEP IT TIDY: Even desperate cats can be finicky, and if the litter isn't kept clean, they refuse to use it. Clean out your cats boxes with each bowel movement, or at least once a day.
WHEN TO SEE THE VET: While even the best-behaved pet can have accidents, a sudden change for the worse could mean trouble. Pets that urinate frequently or in all the wrong places could have a bladder infection, diabetes, hormone imbalance or even kidney failure.
Call your vet if any changes in your pets usual habits persist for more then 2 days or if the urine is discolored or if it's difficult for her to go.
Good afternoon kitties. Today's topic is: MATTED COATS!!
Is your pet having a bad hair day? Is her coat all gnarly and matted??? It's not much fun getting tangled up with matted fur. Hundreds of hairs can be involved in just one mat.
KEEP HER DRY: Once your pets matted hair gets wet, if they get wet, they will be even more difficult to remove. So keep her dry until you get the mats out.
LET FINGERS DO THE WALKING: Untangling a mat takes patience, but it can be done. Starting at the ends of the hairs and working inward--hair by hair if necessary--divide the mat in half with your fingers. Then divide it in quarters and pull til they come out. Then run a comb through the hair to make her coat smooth.
GIVE MATS THE BRUSH OFF: Your pets brush can be a great mat-fighter. Beginning near the tips of the hair and using short rapid strokes, gently brush upward. As the hair gets smooth, gradually work your way down toward the skin.
COAX THEM OUT WITH CORNSTARCH: A light sprinkling of cornstarch makes stubborn mats easier to pull apart.It helps the hair glide right out of the mat. As you work, add more cornstarch as needed.
SLIDE THEM OUT WITH SPRAY: Pet stores sell sparys made specifically for detangling mats. They typically contain lanolin, which helps hairs glide out of the mat. Make sure to get "Feline Friendly" if used for cats.
TAKE IT IN STAGES: If your pet has more than one mat or one large mat that's particularly tough, it's a good idea to do the job in stages. Work on them 10 minutes at a time, then give your pet extra love and maybe a special treat.
GET THEE TO A GROOMER: Professional groomers have special tools to help untangle tough mats. It's important to remember that even groomers sometimes give up and take a shortcut.
BRUSH HIM UP: Once your pet is mat-free, giving him a daily brushing will help keep his coat smooth. Since every pets coats are different, ask your local pet store for the best brush to use on your pet.
GET HER IN CONDITION: Using a conditioner will help keep your pets coat smooth and healthy. Apply the conditioner once a week. Follow label instructions and for cats, make sure it is "Feline Friendly".
TAKE A SHORT CUT: One fool-proof way to prevent matting is to keep your pets coat short. It's much better in the long run to prevent mats and having to get rid of them.
Tomorrow: BLADDER CONTROL PROBLEMS!!!
Hello Rosie
Mommy & I both thank you for your prayers. We did not receive good mews concerning my bloodwork today. Even after having 200 cc of sub-q fluids on Thursday and again on Caturday, my levels did not go down very much. Today my BUN = 43 (was 49 Thursday) and Creatinine = 4.1 (was 4.2). Dr. William said we have to be more aggressive in my treatment, so I am staying at Doc’s for continuous, 24 hour IV fluids. He will do another BUN & Creat recheck tomorrow morning. And we will go from there.
As you can imagine, Mommy is very upset & worried even though she knows that I am where I need to be & that I am getting the best care & proper treatment. We both would appreciate your continued prayers.
QUEEN KELS KAT REMEDIES
Good afternoon kitties. Mom is tired today, no sleep last night, worked all day today, so hopefully we will spell properly here: {MOL} Today's topic: WOUNDS!
In your view, she may be mans best friend, and he may be a purrfect pet. Unfortunately, the other critters in your neighborhood may not hold your four-legged friend in the same high regard! So when nasty things happen to your companion, like wounds, abscesses and bleeding, here are some tips:
TAKE PRECAUTIONS: Experts recommend muzzling your furry friend before treating injuries. If you happen to touch the sore area, he may lash out and bite. If you have no muzzle, try rolling gauze around her mouth and under her chin and tie it behind her ears.
TRY WRAPPING HER UP: If your pet is too small to muzzle, try wrapping her up in a towel, pillowcase or blanket before beginning treatment. To avoid making it difficult for her to breathe, don't wrap her too tight or for too long.
FIRST AID COMES FIRST: Stop the bleeding is number 1. As soon as possible, apply firm pressure to the wound with your hand or a clean piece of cloth....maintain the pressure until the bleeding stops. If the bleeding doesn't stop within 10 minutes, take your pet to the Vet right away.
MAKE THE FUR FLY: Once bleeding is under control, the next step is to clean the wound thoroughly. Start by trimming away any fur around the wound. TRY using an electric clippers if you have one, they are best for removing the fur without accidentally gouging the animal.
PASTE ON PROTECTION: To prevent fresh clipped hairs from falling into the wound, coat it with water soluble K-Y jelly. The hairs with stick to the jelly and can easily be washed away.
DO SOME DEEP CLEANING: Flush deep cuts or punctures with warm water to expel germ-covered hair or debris that might contaminate the wound. Soap and water are best, you may also apply a thin coat of triple antibiotic ointment.
BUBBLES MEAN TROUBLE: Never use an antiseptic such as Hydrogen Peroxide or rubbing alcohol because they further irritate the injured tissue.
LET 'EM LICK: When dogs & cats get injured, their tongues automatically go to work. Do not interfere with nature. plan. Licking does no harm and it may actually help heal the wound.
WATCH OUT FOR ABSCESSES: While most minor wounds will heal on their own, occasionally an abscess will form. An abscess is a pocket of pus beneath the skin in indicates infection. See your vet if you see an abscess on your pet...The Vet will probably need to drain the abscess and give your furry friend an oral antibiotic.
Hi Dame Rosie,
I hope that you and your family are enjoying a lovely Sunday. Mom is getting ready to make lunch in a short while. She bought zucchini and is going to grill it on her grill pan. A nice way to grill if you don't want to go outside. Now Dad would go out to the garage and grill but he isn't allowed to do that now. Mom is also heating up pulled pork that she and Dad made a few months back. Add some baked potatoes and it sounds like a tasty meal. My sisters and I will have our Sunday meal of Fancy Feast Cheddar Delights. We choose which one we want. Sometimes we can't agree so then Mom makes the decision. Hehehe.!!! Then it will be settle in for some football. A purrfect Sunday for me. I hope that you will have a wonderful day as well. Purrrs and a hug, Mittens...
Good afternoon kitties. Today's topic is: BURRS!!!!
You had a great time hiking through the fields & forests, but now it's time to pay the price. It seems your companion has bought back a coat loaded with burrs. This is a real thorny problem and here are a few tips to help remove them with ease.
TAKE THE DRY ROAD: Once burrs get snarled into your pets coat, be sure to remove them before he gets wet. The tangled hair around the burr will shrink like wool after it gets wet and you'll have an extra hard time getting the burrs out.
PUT YOUR FINGERS TO WORK: It's really important to remove burrs as soon as you can so they don't dig in and create mats and irritation. If the burr has just recently lodged, you might be able to remove it with just your fingers or a pair of tweezers.. If it's been there longer, it may be tangled inside a hair mat. To Undo the mat, pull it apart with your fingers little by little, working from the end of the hairs down towards the root. After you remove the burrs, run a comb or brush his coat to smooth things out.
LOOSEN 'EM WITH LUBE: When a burr is really tangled, applying a little vegetable oil will help get it loose. You can also use a detangling spray available at your local pet store, make sure it is feline friendly if used on cats.
TRY THE KINDEST CUT: If you're having problems getting the burr out, especially on long-haired pets, try cutting them out. Use blunt-tipped scissors to avoid accidentally gouging your pet. Cut perpendicular to the mat, not parallel to it. Only cut the hair and not your pets skin.
TAKE YOUR TIME: Removing burrs can be very time-consuming & sometimes painful. Take frequent breaks when you're dealing with a dog or cat with many burrs. Remove them at 10 minute intervals, then praise your pet and give her a treat as a reward for being good and patient.
KEEP IT SHORT: Keeping your pets coat neatly trimmed won't prevent burrs from sticking, but it will make them easier to remove.
PASS UP PRICKLY PLACES: In the future, the one sure way to avoid burrs is to stay away from infested areas. If you know which field they are in, take another route.
TOMORROW: WOUNDS!!!
Good evening kitties. I trust you all had a good time yesterday at the skating party, so nice to see so many there. Today's topic is: DENTAL PROBLEMS.
Your cat doesn't have to flash his pearly whites for family portraits. Your pooch doesn't do smoochy love scenes for romantic movies...so why worry about their teeth? If you do not tend to pets teeth they may go away or worse You should care every bit as much for your pets teeth as you do your own.
USE MAINLY DRY FOOD: Feeding your pet dry kibble rather than canned food can help reduce plaque on teeth cause it is abrasive.
BONE UP ON BISCUITS: if you're going to give your pet a treat, a good choice for her teeth is a crunchy pet biscuit. The abrasive action of the biscuits will help keep her teeth well-scrubbed and clean.
BEWARE OF BONES: Your pet may adore gnawing on big bones from your favorite cut of meat, but they be tough on his teeth. If you don't want your pets teeth to fracture, avoid really hard bones and of course always avoid bones that spl,inter, like chicken bones.
REACH FOR THE RUBBER: Giving your pet a hard rubber toy with grooves is a great way to help keep his teeth white & Clean. Pet stores carry a wide variety of rubber toys for both cats and dogs.
LAUNCH A PLAQUE ATTACK:The idea of brushing your pets teeth daily can be a bit daunting at first, but it is the best thing you can do to keep her teeth healthy.
START EASY: Rather then lunging at your pet with a toothbrush in hand, get him used to the idea. Try rubbing his mouth daily, open it to check his teeth, and rub his chin and tell him he is a good boy {or a good girl}..do this daily for about a week.
PUT ON THE GAUZE: It is easier to start with gauze...life your pets lip on one side and with a little gauze wrapped around your finger, rub the outer surfaces of his teeth..do this daily for about a week.
GRADUATE TO TOOTHBRUSH: Use a soft child sized toothbrush or one specially designed for pets, you can also buy brushes that will fit over your index finger.
USE PASTE WITH TASTE: These days many pet toothpastes come in a variety of tasty flavors. NEVER use toothpaste made for humans as they contain detergents.
ALTERNATIVES TO TOOTHPASTE: If your pet is repelled by the toothpaste, here are some tasty alternatives. Try beef or chicken flavored bouillon, make a broth, let it cool and use that..it will help some if your pet doesn't care for toothpaste.
DO SOMETHING FISHY: Another alternative to toothpaste especially with cats is to moisten the toothbrush with water from a can of tuna..although he will not have fresh minty breath.
WHEN TO SEE A VET: If you notice a terrible odor in your pets mouth or you see redness around the gums or broken, rotting teeth, call your vet immediately.
TOMORROW: Them Prickly BURRS!
Friday purrs
It's a very damp, foggy day in our area with temps still below 30. Hopefully tomorrow will bring some sunshine to help warm things up.
The Christmas decorating is finally done...woohoo! The kids finished up the tree in the living room last night. Now all that's left is for mom to sweep all the glitter up & put the last box back in the closet before furless Risten comes tomorrow. He's starting to wriggle around a lot & will soon be crawling so all of us that stay out when he's here will have to really start watching our tails! The main one to be wary will be Monkey since she insists on giving him kisses, but Patches likes to rub against him too so she'll also be on the 'grab' list! The rest of us generally hide out in the bedroom until he's gone...MOL!
Well got to get pouncing so mom can pull out the noisy sweeper monster & finish putting things away. We should be back to normal (if there is such a thing) blogging again next week so will meow at you more then. Have a purrfectly pawtastic weekend!
Hello Rosie
Thanks for your prayers & good wishes. I did not receive good mews from Dr. William today. My BUN went from 29 to 49 and Creatinine from 2.3 to 4.2 So the kidney disease is progressing. I weigh only 8.9 pounds which is down a whole pound from June (9.9). I got sub q fluids today. I have to go back Saturday morning and Monday morning for more sub q. Also on Monday he will do another BUN & Creatinine check, to see if the hydration is helping.
The good mews is that my thyroid is normal (3.4), both ofmy eyes measured good on the Schirmer eye test and I do not have any red or irritated gums inmy mouth.My temp was 101.5 which is good and my RBC is very good – I am not anemic. I am not dehydrated as I still drink water. When we got home, I was starving so I ate some k/d canned tuna & veggies stew.
We are trying to focus on the pawsitives right now. But of course Mommy is very worried & upset. Please keep us in your prayers for better mews on Monday.
Hugs,
Hi Dame Rosie,
How was your day today? It was another busy one here. Mom was a dusting fool and the vaccuum monster was out and about too. We all ran and hid when we say that. Hehehe.!!! Now I am happy to be on the condo with my toy lion, resting and watching for any outdoor activity. There are plenty of birds at the feeders and a few deer even came for a seed snack. Also, yesterday Dad had another appointment with the foot Dr. He got a good report, both ankles are healing nicely but the stiches in the rt. ankle will remain for at least another week. Dad is getting a little anxious but pretty much doing what he should and listening to Mom and the Dr. Tonight Mom and I are planning to spend the evening reading and relaxing together. Always a favorite thing for me to do. I hope that you will have a great evening as well. Purrs and a hug, Mittens..
Good afternoon Kitties. I hope you all had a peaceful night! Today's topic is: VOMITING!
Sure, it's a dog-eat-dog world out there. But it's also a dog-eat-garbage & cat-eats-dead-mouse world. While dogs and cats usually vomit because of dumpster-diving, eating too much or eating to fast can upset their tummies.
GIVE HIM FAST RELIEF: When your pet is vomiting, his stomach needs a time-out. Don't give him food for 24-hours. A short fast may be all it takes to get his tummy back to normal...if he is still vomiting after 24 hours, call your vet.
FILL THE WATER BOWL: Once the worse is over, encourage your pet to drink water during his fast. The last thing you want is a dehydrated pet.
LET HER LICK ICE: If water makes them queasy, give him an ice cube. He will lick it slowly and it usually stays down. Put the ice cube in your pets bowl or on the floor, make sure the water stays down, then you can give him a cube every 15 minutes.
KEEP THE LID DOWN: To prevent your pet from drinking too much, keep your toilet lid down, especially if you use chemical fresheners, or your pet could walk away with a tummy full of bacteria.
MAKER HER MENU BLAND: After fasting for 24 hours, your pet may be ravenous for food. Start with a bland diet to gently work his system back into digesting. You can mix 2 parts of cooked white rice with one part cottage cheese or boiled skinless breast. Feed him small amounts every 4 hours, after a few days, if he holds it down, you can go back to his normal diet.
BRING IT BACK SLOWLY: After 2 days on the bland diet, you can start re-introducing his usual fare. Mix 1 part of the bland with his regular meal everyday for 4 days until he is back to normal.
CALM IT WITH KAOPECTATE: Even after the vomiting stops, your pet may not be feeling up to par. Kaopectate will soothe her tummy. Ask your vet for the recommended dosage for you pet.
DOGS ONLY: GET IN THE PINK: Giving your dog Pepto-Bismol will help soothe his tummy just as it does yours. Give 1 teaspoon for every 20 pounds of dogs weight.
NEVER GIVE Pepto-Bismol to cats. It contains ingredients cats don't metabolize well, so it can make them sicker.
WHEN TO SEE THE VET: If your pet is lethargic, disoriented & stumbling around like he's drunk, and throwing up a lot more then usual, call your vet immediately...your pet may have consumed a poisonous plant or gotten into some anti-freeze.
TOMORROW: DENTAL PROBLEMS!
Hello Rosie
What’s purring with you? I heard a nasty rumor that I have an appointment with Dr. William tomorrow morning for my 3 month BUN & Creatinine bloodwork recheck, Schirmer eye test & another thyroid panel. That means NO eating for anyone here tomorrow morning. If one of us has to do without food, Mommy says it’s only fair that we all should including herself. Boy, will Sissy & Casper Todd be mad!!!
I have not been eating well, which is a symptom of my kidney disease. Mommy is worried about me and we would appreciate your prayers.
Good afternoon kitties. Today's topic is all about our eating habits: FUSSY EATING!
You probably remember Morris, the finicky feline whose fussy eating catapulted him to commercial fame. If you have your own "Morris" at home and he turns his nose up at everything you have to offer, here are some tips to perk up his taste-buds.
WALK AWAY AT MEALTIME: Instead of begging your pet to eat, put his meal down on the floor and walk away, when he gets hungry enough, he will eat it {says who?}
SET A TIME LIMIT: If your pet isn't finished eating in an hour, pick up the food and put it away...try again at a later time, but only leave it out 1 hour...when your pet realizes if he doesn't eat he will go hungry, he will eat rather then starve.
TABLE THE SCRAPS: While you pet loves leftovers and mealtime handouts, those rich goodies may be spoiling his appetite...would you eat cat/dog food if you knew you were getting steak, chops, chicken or burger every night?
SOME LIKE IT HOT: If your pet walks away from dry kibble, try adding warm water. This will soften the food and make it more appealing. Who doesn't enjoy a nice warm meal?
TANTALIZE HER TASTE BUDS: If your pet refuses to eat, try something a little different, try putting scraps of roast beef or burger in her food and mix it up. Don't overdo it as you might wind up with a plump pet.
WHEN TO SEE THE VET: You know there's a problem when you whip up Fluffy or Fido's fave meal and he doesn't even want to take a lick. Most of the time it isn't nothing to worry about, some dogs can go 3-4 days without food...could be he has a tummy ache.
With cats however, liver function can be impaired even after short periods without food. So if Fluffy hasn't eaten in 2 days, take her to the Vet. Your Vet can discover why kitty isn't eating and recommend treatment!
Good afternoon kitties. Today we are discussing Animal bites to humans. Topic suggested by sisters, Dayzee, Duchess & Mischief.
Here's what to do if your 4-legged friend gets unfriendly.
NEVER PULL AWAY FROM A CAT: If your cat has your hand in his mouth, NEVER try to pull it away, he will think you are 'prey' and bite harder, instead, wait til he stops biting, or he may bite down damaging your muscles and tendons.
If you happen to have a spray bottle handy, you can spray Fluffy in the face, most cats do not enjoy being sprayed in the face and will run.
DO NOT WRESTLE WITH YOUR CAT: Unlike dogs, cats do not enjoy play wrestling, he may consider you attacking him and bite..if you try to pull your hand away suddenly he will bite down hard.
NEVER TRY TO PET A GROWLING CAT: If your cat is growling, he is probably angry and will swipe you or try to bite. Instead wait til kitty calms down and starts growling, then talk to her gently and then try to pet, if she growls, take your hand away.
TIPS IF ANIMALS BITE YOU:
ASSESS THE DAMAGE: Seek medical help for all bites except those that are minor.
THOROUGHLY WASH THE BITE: Animal bites--especially from cats--may transmit infection. Cleanse the wound thoroughly with warm water and soap to remove saliva, continue washing for a full 5 minutes.
CONTROL BLEEDING: If there is minor bleeding, cover the entire wound with a sterile gauze. You may put some ice against the gauze and elevate the wound above heart level to help stop bleeding.
BANDAGE THE AREA: When bleeding has stopped, cover the bite with a sterile bandage or clean cloth, tie or tape it loosely in place.
REDUCE PAIN: Use aspirin or acetaminophen to reduce pain. This is appropriate even if the bite did not break not break the skin., then apply ice if any swelling occurs.
GET A TETANUS SHOT: Any animal bite can lead to tetanus, so if you haven't had a shot in the past years, get one now!
SEE YOUR DR IMMEDIATELY: if you see redness, it feels hot to the touch or oozing or you think the bite is infected, see your DR ASAP....he will recommend an antibiotic and a course of treatment for you.
If you got bit by animal not your own, contact the animals owner to be sure if he is up to date on his rabies vaccine.
TOMORROW: FUSSY EATERS!
Good afternoon kitties! Hope you all had a pawsome weekend! Today's topic is: ALLERGIES!
Dogs & cats with allergies...you bet!!! Like their owners, many pets are sensitive to airborne annoyances--not just pollen or mold but also such things as dust, feathers and wool. Unlike humans, animals do not suffer from fever, red runny eyes and noses to sneezing attacks, but they do get all itchy.
CALM IT WITH COOL WATER: Giving your pet a cool-water soak{NO WAY!!} is a quick way to ease itchy skin.Bathe your pet for 5-10 minutes..make sure the water is cool, not cold or too warm, warm water aggravates the itch.
EASE IT WITH OATMEAL: To make soaks additionally soothing, vets sometimes recommend adding colloidal oatmeal{like Aveeno} to the bath water, it will help calm the crankiest itch!
ALLEVIATE WITH ANTIHISTAMINES: You can often bring allergies under control with antihistamines. Your vet may recommend an OTC drug like diphenhydramine {Benedryl} Your vet will tell you how much to give your pet.
SUBDUE IT WITH SUPPLEMENTS: To help calm itchy skin, try giving your pet fatty acid supplements which are used for relieving mange and other skin disorders. Your vet can recommend what type to give your pet.
KEEP HER INDOORS: In the Spring/Summer, Pollen is in the air--and in your furry friends coat and airways as well. To prevent pollen from pushing your pet around, keep her indoors as much as possible during pollen peak hours....early morning and evenings.
SMOOTH THE ROUGH EDGES: Carpet, heavy drapes and upholstery are variable magnets for dust & pollen. Try keeping your pets area free of drapes and carpet, you can use vinyl blinds over the windows.
CLEAN OFTEN: Daily cleaning will not eliminate dust and pollen, but it will keep it manageable. It is also a good idea to clean your pets bedding once a week. It is also a good idea to change your furnace/AC filters monthly.
LOOK TO THE LITTER: Many litter's contain chemical scents to make your cats bathroom smelling pretty...for you--not her. Try buying scentless and dust free litter.
FOR THOSE WITH DOGS: Dogs with allergies occasionally suffer from itchy feet and soaking them in Epsom salts can bring much relief. Fill the tub with just enough water to cover paws. Dissolve several cups of Epsom salts crystals in the water...stand your dog in the tub for 5-10 minutes, then gently dry her feet.
TOMORROW: When Fido or Fluffy BITE their humans!
But what she doesn’t know is that I have a secret stash of Christmas tree balls and candy canes. I’ll set up the goal nets and we can play hockey. GIVE HIM THE BRUSH OFF: If you're going to do one thing when your pet is shedding, you should brush brush and more brush...not all brushes are the same..you will need one that's suited for your pet..something that works for a long haired coat will not work well on a short haired coat.
GO DEEP: For brushing to be effective, you need to use firm, deep strokes. Short strokes are better then long ones cause they penetrate the coat more thoroughly.
RUB HER THE WRONG WAY: After brushing your pet from head to tail, reverse direction and go against the fur. This will help loosen hair you may have missed the first time.
DON'T GIVE HER ANY STATIC: Brushing against the fur will occasionally be a shocking experience for you and your pet. Her coat can build up a static charge and you can spark her. To prevent this, use a static-free brush.
SWITCH TO A COMB: After giving your pet a thorough brushing, you can pick up loads of additional hair by switching to a comb.
CONDITION HIS COAT: Occasionally applying a small bit of conditioner will make her coat smoother and easier to brush {especially for long haired pets}.
FOR CATS ONLY:
PUT ON PROTECTION: While some cats love to be brushed, others hate it, and will try to claw you, so putting on a pair of gloves will help save your hands and arms from scratches.
GET A GRIP: Holding Fluffy firmly by the scruff of the neck will help control her wilder instincts during grooming.
TOMORROW: ALLERGIES!!!
QUEEN KELS KAT REMEDIES
Good evening kitties. Today is moms birthday so she got a cake from her co-workers. Happy birthday to my mom.
Today's Topic: BITES!!!!
They don't call it a dog-eat-dog world for nothing. Big dogs bite little dogs and vice versa. Dogs chase cats, and cats fight back. Even squirrels, skunks and other critters will occasionally throw their hats into the ring. Any bite is potentially dangerous, so if your pet gets bitten, see your Vet ASAP!!!!
START WITH A MUZZLE: It's natural for an animal in pain to lash out. To protect yourself, wrap your pets mouth before treating him. If you have no muzzle you can improvise by wrapping gauze, panty hose or even a length of twine or rope several times around your pets mouth. Then pull the ends together and tie behind their ears.
WRAP HER UP: If FLUFFY OR FIDO are too small for a muzzle, protect yourself by wrapping her head with a towel before starting treatment.
GET IT CLEAN: Trim the hair around the wound to make it easier to clean. Flush for at least 5 minutes with warm water. If the bite is ore than 24 hours old, bacteria may have already taken hold. Scrub the wound carefully with an antibacterial soap, then flush it with warm water.
ADD EXTRA PROTECTION: After washing & drying the bite, apply an OTC triple antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin. Then bandage the area with gauze to keep it clean...to keep gauze in place you can use clear first-aid tape.
KEEP IT LOOSE:When applying and taping a bandage to a wound, leave enough room to get your finger underneath. Anything tighter can interfere with your pets circulation.
ENCOURAGE HER INPUT: Once the bandage is removed, it's natural for a pet to lick their wounds. In most cases this isn't a problem. In fact, licking helps speed the healing process.
KEEP UP WITH SHOTS: Rabies is a viral disease that without treatment is almost always fatal--to both pets and people. Keep your pets vaccinations up to date.
WHEN TO SEE THE VET: Look for these danger signs.
If touching the area around the wound causes Fido or Fluffy to jerk away, the wound could be infected. Severe blood loss. Bites to the abdomen or to the throat, injuries in these areas can cause damage to the windpipe or internal bleeding. If a wild animal bites your pet, it could be rabid so get your pet to the vet right away.
Tomorrow: SHEDDING.
Hi Dame Rosie,
It is another very rainy day but the temps are quite warm. Not at all what you would expect for December. I wanted to go out with Mom to get the newspaper this morning but as soon as I realzied that it was still raining I ran as fast as I could right back in the house. Hehehe.!!! Mom decided that today would be a rest day for all of us. Dad has been resting but not Mom so after a few chores this morning, Mom is now going to let us visit with our friends and then do some reading. A real treat for her as she doesn't often have time for that luxury. I hope that you will enjoy a relaxing day as well. And, thank-you for your kind words and prayers for my pawrents. Purrs and a hug, Mittens... Ps: I hope that your pawrents enjoy the tree trimming pawty. It sounds like a lot of fun...
Come visit me, Mittens. Merry Christmas..., Q. Angel Misty. Christmas is my favorite time...., Minuette. Waiting for Santa..., Greycee Mist. Christmas time is coming... & Gypsy: I'm being good for Santa...
