My Cat Profile
About Me
Active within 5 Days
Hi! My name is Mr. Kitty
I am Domestic Mediumhair from St.John, VI
Nicknames: He is just Mr.Kitty
Age: 9 years old
Gender: M
Coat: short haired
Education: Some of the "board members" didn't like Mr. Kitty hanging around the center. I waited til the Bishop was there one day, called him outside and showed him the cat. I told him there were a few ladies who didn't like me taking care of him. I told him this is Gods cat. He needs a place to stay and eat. God sent him here. I told him about the ladies not wanting him there. The Bishop looked at the ladies and told them " Of course she can take care of Gods cat".
My favorite tricks and treats are: He minds well. He will " get over there and LAY DOWN" and Sharing my lunch with me
Where I hang out: Under the table where I work on my art and crafts * * * * Now, on top of the refridgerator
My favorite grubs: Dry Purina food, just about anything
My pet peeves: Any other cats who come around invading "his" house
What I love about my owners: She's nice to me.
My cat hobbies: Hang out with me
Pet motto:

How We Met
Mr Kitty showed up at the Senior Center/Church where I work about 2 1/2 years ago. He was pretty scruffy looking. The kitchen ladies were feeding him scraps but when I saw he was going to stay I started feeding him catfood. It took almost 1 1/2 years til I could pet him. Now he is a lot of fun. His ear is clipped so he had been through the shelter and I took him last month for a check up and his shots up to date. * * * * A very long story but the short version is that I had to bring Mr.Kitty home with me. A new " part time " asst. director was making everyone at the center miserable. I moved across the street to Parks and Recreation. Mr.Kitty couldn't go there. He was miserable at the center, constantly meowing, looking for me so I took him home. He is adjusting but not as happy as he was with me at the center.

A Word With Whiskers – May 20 Top Reasons To Keep Cats Indoors – Part 1 (from cats.about.com) ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Many cat lovers are now savvy that indoor cats are safer cats, while others still think that cats deserve freedom to run in the great outdoors. When humans domesticated cats, we took on the responsibility for their health & welfare. Part of that responsibility is to keep cats safe & in good health. For those holdouts for letting cats roam free, consider these top reasons to keep cats indoors. • To Monitor Your Cat’s Urinary Tract/Bowel Health. With an outdoor cat, pet owners are unable to monitor painful attempts to urinate or poop. The first, a red flag warning for UTI or urinary tract blockage; the second, a red flag for constipation, bowel blockage or mega-colon. • Indoor Cats Are Safe From Predators & Dog Packs. Outdoor cats are below predators in the food chain, & they are sitting ducks for owls, raptors, coyotes, & native big cats. Dogs running in packs will consider a cat fair game; even one large dog can easily overpower & kill a cat. Remember that some dogs are also bred to attack; they are not really to blame when their instinct takes over. Even with a full set of fangs & claws, the cat rarely has a chance when caught outside. • Indoor Cats Don't Create Neighbor Problems. Even "well-bred" cats will venture into neighbors' yards when allowed to roam free. People who don't like cats will not tolerate cats using their gardens as litter boxes, & will sometimes resort to extreme measures to keep the cats out. • Indoor Cats Rarely Get Abscesses From Fighting. Cats are very territorial & will defend their territory to the death, if challenged by another cat. At the very least, these territorial battles often result in abscessed wounds, which can be deadly if not treated in time. There's also the chance, of course, of cats contracting FIV from deep bite wounds. • Indoor Cats Are Safe From Human Abuse. Freely-roaming cats are easy targets for gangs of youths with time on their hands, for cat-haters, who seek cats out for target practice, & for neighbors who would think nothing of killing a cat for trespassing on their property. Although animal protection laws are beefing up, prosecution will never bring a loved cat back to life. • Indoor Cats Can Get Plenty of Exercise. Cats do get exercise, but they can get it safely with interactive toys, climbing towers, scratching posts, & other indoor toys; all much safer than running from dogs or fighting with other cats. Remember also that there are safe compromises for the outdoor experience. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ To be cat-tinued tomorrow… ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~ CONCATULATIONS to our ACOTD Chumley #192486~ **Vote ~ROSIE #252822~ for COTD tomorrow!** ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support! A Word With Whiskers – May 19 6 TAX DEDUCTIONS YOUR CATS CAN CLAIM FOR NEXT YEAR - (from catster.com) ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Cats love to take advantage of anything that might work in their favor. What if they could file taxes and claim deductions? You better believe they'd be all over that. What exactly would they claim? We've got some ideas. 1. Therapy deduction - Cats should be able to claim monies paid for any therapy occurring as a result of having to wear silly outfits. The deductions would substantially increase for those felines whose shame is shared via social media outlets. In case of an audit, they must save all receipts and screenshots of photos shared online. 2. Energy-savings deduction - Masters at conserving energy, cats would get to reap the benefits of helping save the planet. They'd log their sleep hours and, using a specialized formula, claim accordingly. There would also be a unique tax credit for cats who log a certain number of hours while lying in a sun puddle. It would be called the Solar Cat Tax Credit. 3. Charitable donations deduction - Kitties are excellent gift givers. They drop toys into our empty shoes, leave expired creatures at the back door, and greet our bare morning feet with cold piles of vomity hairballs. It's about time they received credit for those charitable donations! 4. Casualty deduction - Unfortunately, cats must deal with a multitude of casualties each year, primarily lost toys. Balls are batted under the refrigerator, cloth mice are drowned in the water bowl, and feathered birdies are ripped to shreds. Mourning the loss of vanished toys is tough, but the load can feel a lot lighter when they can write those losses off and experience true closure. 5. Entertainment deduction - It takes a lot of energy to entertain humans. Cats subject themselves to a fair amount of embarrassment in order to please the human with the can opener. As a way to help them feel their hours of performing for humans are not in vain, an entertainment deduction would be available to kitties. 6. Paid interest deduction - Sometimes cats just want to sleep, birdwatch, or curl up and stare at a bug on the screen door. However, humans may have other ideas: "Kitty, kitty! Come sit on my lap!" The human is the bringer of the food, and so cats sometimes placate her whims. They really should receive credit for showing interest when really they'd rather flick their tail and go back to sleep. And most times, they do just that -- some deductions just aren't worth it. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ I hope you enjoyed today’s playful purring! ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Wally #59966~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support! A Word With Whiskers – May 17 Peas in a Pod - by Sue Young ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ I’ll never be sure if it was wisdom or folly that struck that day, but I would think a little of both. We had been happily living with one cat for a couple of years, a fairly large black-&-white English Shorthair named Smedley. It was time for his annual exam & shots, so off we went to our local veterinarian’s office, puss in hand, or actually wrapped like up like an Egyptian mummy to save us from his dreaded claws. “Ah!” Doc Pete said, with a twinkle in his eyes. “I’m glad you dropped in. I have a kitten out back that needs a home & I thought of you!” Before I could stop him, his assistant brought out the tiniest marmalade tabby, weighing just over a pound, with a cast on his left front leg. He put him in my arms, looked up at me & said, “So what do you think?” They say a sucker is born every minute & that was my minute. We took one look at the poor little thing & then at each other & we were done for. We found out that someone had broken his leg & tried to drown him in the nearest canal. A Good Samaritan had rescued him & brought him to the vet’s office. “How will they get along?” I asked. “How do we go about introducing them to each other?” “Oh, that’s no problem,” he said. “You just put him in a carrier, take him home, leave the carrier open & let Smedley think he is rescuing the kitten.” Well, it sounded good. As per instruction, once we got home, we left the kitten in the carrier in the middle of the room. Then we sat back to watch. Smedley circled the box & growled deeper than I had ever heard him before. The kitten mewed plaintively while sticking a paw out of the holes in the side of the carrier. After about an hour, we decided to open the top of the carrier a little wider. Smedley walked up to the top, looked inside & was rewarded by a lightning strike from a small orange paw. That was the last we saw of him that evening. I was convinced that the next morning would find us back at the vet’s office returning the little tyke. However, the next morning, we were in for a surprise. As I got up to put on the coffee, I saw the two of them curled up together on the sofa as if they were one cat with two smiling faces. From then on, Smedley watched over the little one as if he had given birth to him, and they went everywhere together. Doc Pete was right! ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Cats are intuitive and can teach us to be gentle & patient. ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~ CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Princess’s maia & lia #163485~ **Vote ~ANGEL CRASH #248838~ for ACOTD tomorrow!** ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 16 The Taste Sense Of Cats - (from PetSpeak) ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Cats are blessed with a keen sense of smell. So while humans can smell broiled lobster, a cat can smell something like “broiled Maine lobster shipped in brine.” Despite their incredible sensitivity to smell, cats aren’t too concerned about taste. Of all their senses, taste is probably the least important to cats. Humans seek culinary perfection, but cats are mainly interested in whether the stuff they’re about to eat is nutritious or dangerous. Cats tend to be more picky than dogs. One reason for this is that they’re carnivores, and spoiled meat is best left behind for scavengers. Another reason is that they’re, well, cats, and cats are generally more particular about life than dogs. Because they care more about what they put into their mouths, it’s tougher to slip them day-old food or extras like medicine. Cats do seem to have one blind spot when it comes to taste: They have a very limited ability to identify sweets. While most animals prefer food with sucrose in it, cats don’t seem to notice it. In fact, researchers found that cats could not tell the difference between sugar water and plain water, even when the sugar level was so high that it was potentially dangerous. Although flavor isn’t the most important thing to cats, food certainly is. It gives them a sense of comfort and well-being even as it satisfies their appetites. And it can be a powerful tool for communication as well. If you give a pet food he really likes, you’ll get his attention in a hurry. Cats are creatures of habit, which means they’re most comfortable when they’re in familiar surroundings, with familiar people and familiar tastes. Just because people want to try different foods all the time doesn’t mean cats do too. It’s fine to change foods periodically. Cats may get bored with the same food after a few months and will crave a new flavor. Let them have it. But make the change slowly by mixing some of the new food in with the old food for a few days. This will prevent diarrhea or other digestive problems that may occur when pets suddenly start eating something new. THE ABILITY TO TASTE: The reason dogs and cats snack out of the trash can with the same gusto that they have for cleaning out their food bowls is that the food we throw out often has appealing flavor & aromas. There’s a significant difference in the number of tastebuds between pets & people. Here’s the comparison: PEOPLE: 10,000 tastebuds | DOGS: 1,500-2,000 tastebuds | CATS: 473 tastebuds ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Hey, who said cats don’t have taste?! ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your thoughts & prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Jesse #28989~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your furiendship & support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 15 CAT FUNNIES :) - Volume 1 ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^ A Cat Heaven - ===================================== One day a cat dies of natural causes and goes to Heaven. There he meets the Lord himself. The Lord says to the cat, "You lived a good life and if there is any way I can make your stay in Heaven more comfortable, please let Me know." The cat thinks for a moment and says, "Lord, all my life I have lived with a poor family and had to sleep on a hard wooden floor." The Lord stops the cat and says, "Say no more," and a wonderful fluffy pillow appears. A few days later six mice are killed in a tragic farming accident and go to Heaven. Again the Lord is there to greet them with the same offer. The mice answer, "All of our lives we have been chased. We have had to run from cats, dogs, and even women with brooms. Running, running, running; we're tired of running. Do you think we could have roller skates so we don't have to run anymore?" The Lord says, "Say no more," and fits each mouse with beautiful new roller skates. About a week later the Lord stops by to see the cat and finds him in a deep sleep on the pillow. The Lord gently wakes the cat and asks him, "How are things since you arrived?" The cat stretches and yawns and replies, "It is wonderful here. Better than I could have ever expected. And those Meals on Wheels you've been sending by are theeeeeeee best!!!" The Cat Scan – ===================================== A man runs into the vet's office carrying his dog, screaming for help. The vet rushes him back to an examination room and has him put his dog down on the examination table. The vet examines the still, limp body and after a few moments, tells the man that his dog, regrettably, is dead. The man, clearly agitated and not willing to accept this, demands a second opinion. The vet goes into the back room and comes out with a cat and puts the cat down next to the dog's body. The cat sniffs the body, walks from head to tail, poking and sniffing the dog's body and finally looks at the vet and meows. The vet looks at the man and says, "I'm sorry, but the cat thinks that your dog is dead, too." The man, finally resigned to the diagnosis, thanks the vet and asks how much he owes. The vet answers, "$350." "$350 to tell me my dog is dead?!" exclaims the man. "Well," the vet replies, "I would only have charged you $50 for my initial diagnosis. The additional $300 was for the cat scan." ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^ I hope I put smiles on your faces today! ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Cashmere #61835~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 14 Ugly the Cat – author unknown ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Everyone in the apartment complex I lived in knew who Ugly was. Ugly was the resident tomcat. Ugly loved three things in this world: fighting, eating garbage, and shall we say, love. The combination of these things combined with a life spent outside had their effect on Ugly. He had only one eye, he was missing an ear and his left foot appeared to have been badly broken at one time, healing at an irregular angle. His tail was gone, leaving a small stub & he was covered with scabs. Humans reacted when they saw him with, “That’s one UGLY cat!” All the children were warned not to touch him, the adults threw rocks at him, hosed him down when he tried to come in their homes, or shut his paws in the door when he would not leave. Ugly always had the same reaction. If you turned the hose on him, he would stand there, getting soaked until you gave up and quit. If you threw things at him, he would curl his lanky body around feet in forgiveness. If you ever picked him up he would immediately begin suckling on your shirt, earrings, whatever he could find. One day Ugly shared his love with the neighbor’s huskies. They did not respond kindly, and Ugly was badly mauled. From my home I could hear his screams, and I tried to rush to his aid. By the time I got to where he was laying, it was apparent Ugly's sad life was almost at an end. As I picked him up to carry him home, I could hear him wheezing and gasping. I must be hurting him terribly I thought. Then I felt a familiar tugging, sucking sensation on my ear- Ugly, in so much pain & suffering was trying to suckle my ear. I pulled him closer to me and he bumped the palm of my hand with his head. Then he turned his one golden eye towards me, and I could hear the distinct sound of purring. Even in the greatest pain, that ugly battled-scarred cat was asking only for a little affection, perhaps some compassion. At that moment I thought Ugly was the most beautiful, loving creature I had ever seen. Ugly just looked up at me, completely trusting in me to relieve his pain. Ugly died, nestled in my arms. I sat and held him for a long time afterwards, thinking about how one scarred, deformed little stray, could so alter my opinion about what it means to have true pureness of spirit, to love so totally and truly. Many people want to be richer, more successful, well liked, beautiful; but for me, I will always try to be Ugly. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ All living creatures deserve our love & compassion. ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your thoughts & prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Gypsy & The Inside Cats #255012~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 13 CATS IN THE MEWS – ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ ITALIAN CAT BRINGS GIFTS TO HIS LATE MASTER'S TOMB – ========================================== ROME - The story of a cat who visits his master's tomb and brings him little presents on an almost daily basis a year after the man's death has moved the inhabitants of a village in central Italy. "He brings little twigs, leaves, toothpicks, plastic cups. A bit of everything really," Renzo Iozzelli's widow Ada told AFP from Montagnana, a mountain village near Florence. "Sometimes he comes with me and sometimes he goes on his own. The whole town knows about him now!" Toldo the cat -- a grey-and-white three-year-old tomcat -- followed Iozzelli's funeral procession last year and has continued going to the cemetery ever since, a habit usually ascribed to dogs. "He loved my husband. It was something else! Now it's just me, my daughter and my son-in-law and he's very affectionate with us too," she said. Ada said the journey to and from the cemetery each day had tired Toldo out in the cold winter weather. "He's not going out so much these days. He's caught a bit of bronchitis so he's sleeping next to me." ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ BRAZIL INMATES TRAIN CAT FOR PRISON BREAK – ========================================== BRASILIA - A cat trained by prisoners to deliver cell phones and tools to dig tunnels was caught at a jail in northeastern Brazil after sneaking in with forbidden items strapped to its body. "An agent saw the cat and went to look at it closely because something about it seemed wrong," Marcelo Avelino, the head of the prison guards' union, told the O Globo newspaper. The agent found a bag tied to the animal's body filled with saw blades and drill parts for concrete drilling and digging tunnels, along with a cell phone complete with battery and charger, Avelino added. The cat had often been seen coming in and out of the Alagoas jail. Prison officer Luiz de Oliveira Souza told the G1 news website that prisoners had raised the cat and that relatives would often take it home after a prison visit. "We were very surprised by this new tactic of prisoners, who trained the animal so that it returned to the prison and even managed to carry materials,” the agent added. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ See photos of these unique cats on my page. ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Paul #225583~ **Vote for ~Gypsy & The Inside Cats #255012~ for our COTD tomorrow!** ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 12 ♥ Feline Wisdom: A Mother’s Day Letter From My Cats - by Angie Bailey ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Dear Meow-my, Today is Mother’s Day, and because we love and care about you, we have a few points we’d like you to consider: 1. You’re perfect just the way you are. Sometimes we see you worry about silly things and we think you should worry less and nap more. It works for us. And we’ll even nap with you – what a deal! 2. We love it when you let us sleep in your chair. Even when you need to sit there, you never move us – you just balance your butt on the very edge of the chair so you don’t disturb us. You are kind…and well-trained. 3. We know you want to develop a consistent yoga routine and we think that’s a great idea. Stretching feels fantastic and we just want you to know we’re here to help you. You know how we are – the minute you sit on the floor, we climb all over you. Sometimes this annoys you, but we are only trying to help you master the poses. You’re welcome. 4. We also think you should read more books. We notice you look more relaxed when you read, and we like that. Additionally, you reading a book means we’re charged with rubbing our faces all over it and lying on top of it, forcing you to eventually stop reading and pay lots and lots of attention to us. So please read, relax, but focus most of your energy on us. 5. We have a relaxation tip for you: Have you tried napping on a pile of warm laundry? It’s just the best! Try a load of towels – you’ll never go back. 6. Don’t feel guilty about eating a treat now and again. In fact, get really excited about it! You see us, right? Do you notice how we race around the kitchen and cheer when you show us the treat jar? You need to do some racing and cheering over cupcakes. We’ll grab the camera. 7. We love it when you play with us! We think sometimes you should close that computer-thingy and play more often – and not just with us! Take a walk, go swimming or meet friends for tea. And sometimes, we want to be your only laptop. Hopefully you will find our suggestions helpful. We kitties are smart and know how to live happy and balanced lives and we want that for you, too! Thank you for everything you do for us. We don’t even mind a camera in our faces now and again – we know that makes you happy. Not to create more work for you, but we would like to suggest that you do a few more loads of laundry each week. What? You read #5, right? Happy Mother’s Day! Love, your Furbabies ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Wolfie #59175~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 11 CATS’ WHISKERS – ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ If you were to put your cat in a darkened maze, she’d confidently stroll all the way through without knocking into the sides or bumping into the wall. Cover her eyes, and she’d still be able to locate a mouse in the field. Even if you covered her ears and nose as well as her eyes and then tried to sneak up on her, she’d probably be aware of you before you got close. Are cats psychic? Lots of people think so. But scientists have found that cats’ rather astonishing powers of perception are due less to mental wizardry than to the wonders of the whiskers. (No, not me silly!) Cats use their whiskers constantly. The whiskers act almost like sonar, telling cats how close they are to objects around them. Cats also use their whiskers to communicate. Depending on the position, whiskers tell other cats when to stay away and when to approach. When you look at cats head-on, you’ll get a pretty good view of their intricate whisker systems. You’ll see a vast collection of long hairs sprouting from their eyes, at the base of their ears, along their cheeks, and under their chins. Some whiskers are specialized, and each set does a different job. In a very real sense, whiskers are like several extra sets of eyes. They allow cats to see the world in greater detail. In fact, cats who lose their sight may develop whiskers that are longer and thicker than usual. Because the whiskers have a hot line to the brain, they provide unique insights into your pet’s moods and actions. You can tell when she is contented, irritated, or ready to play. Cats will often broadcast what their next behavior will be with movement of their whiskers. Whiskers straight out to the sides: This means nothing is stimulating their curiosity or distracting them. They’re happy and content. Whiskers flattened: When the whiskers shoot straight back from the nose and lie flattened against the cheeks, your cat is afraid of something. Whiskers fanning and swiveling: Cats who are curious use their whiskers almost like antennae. Whiskers spread out and angled forward: When a cat points her whiskers straight out in front of her face, watch out. She is putting her sensors ahead of her to feel what she is going to bite. Because the whiskers are so sensitive, petting or stroking them is the equivalent of shouting in your cat’s ear. It’s a good idea to let children know not to pull on a cat’s whiskers. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ And you thought whiskers were just an elegant accessory! =^.^= ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Smokey & Molly #211603~ **Vote for ~WOLFIE #59175~ for our COTD tomorrow!** ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thank you for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 10 Baby Socks – by Bonita Chambers ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ The gray tuxedo kitten decided he would live with us after his feral mother was hit by a car and died. His tiny feet looked like little white socks so we named him Baby Socks. We fed him and talked to him until he finally trusted us enough to pet him and pick him up. We took him to the vet for shots and neutering. Even still, he was not an inside cat. He wanted to patrol his own domain outside. However, when I would sit outside, he would jump into my lap, his white feet kneading my legs. We were also owned by a 10 lb Yorkie named Sugar. Baby Socks got used to her using ‘his’ backyard. They formed a truce where she didn’t chase him and he didn’t hiss at her. Baby Socks grew to weigh 20 lbs., twice the size of the dog. At the same time, Sugar grew older. By age 16, she had cataracts in both eyes. Due to age and numerous health problems, Sugar went blind. Despite her blindness she knew how to navigate the rooms in the house, and we left the furniture in place so she wouldn’t get confused or hurt. We did worry about her going out in the yard. A slope ran down to a creek where snakes or raccoons could harm her. We took her on trips to the bathroom and made sure she was able to follow our voice back to the door. Eventually Sugar lost her hearing. We had to watch her every move when she was outside and pick her up to bring her back inside. It wasn’t long before we noticed Baby Socks was following Sugar whenever she was in the yard. If she got too close to the slope, he got in front of her and nudged her in the right direction, safely to the door. He became her self-appointed “seeing-eye cat”! Sugar died when she was 17. Baby Socks seemed to know she was gone, but he watched whenever we opened the back door, just in case. He still patrols the yard. I tell him what a good cat he is and maybe we might get another dog someday. He doesn’t seem impressed. If that day comes, I’m sure Baby Socks will once more work out a truce, and a friendship, with whatever new canine enters his domain. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Cats have amazing empathy! ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD S #246680~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 09 How Cats Love – Part 2 (from cats.about.com) ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ Here are more ways that cats express their undying affection for us: 8. Cats Love with Kneading. Kneading behaviors—front paw treading on soft surfaces—hearken back to kittenhood. Kitten paws knead against the mother cat’s breasts to induce milk to be released. Adult cats continue the behavior when they’re feeling most relaxed and content and loved, and that’s often when being petted on the owner’s lap. Kneading is an obvious expression of adoration. 9. Cats Love with Playing. Kittens play out of pure enjoyment, and many never outgrow playtime. Some cats may actually control the interaction of petting by moving just out of reach—so YOU must go to THEM. Their most favorite playmate typically is a trusted, beloved companion. 10. Cats Love with Sleeping. As sleep champs, felines typically sleep up to 16 hours a day. Because they are most vulnerable during sleep, the place your cat chooses to snooze must be a secure and trusted location. There is no greater loving compliment than a cat choosing your lap for a favorite sleep spot. 11. Cats Love with their Eyes. A kitty’s eyes are proportionately very large—if human’s eyes were the same proportion, our eyes would be eight inches across! As such, cat eyes are important assets for survival, yet extremely vulnerable. Cats that place their faces and wide-open eyes near a human express great trust and love. A slow “eye blink” from across the room is considered a cat kiss. 12. Cats Love with their Butts. This is another “back handed compliment” that cats offer to only their most trusted, beloved people. Because kitties identify each other by scent, butt-sniffing is the equivalent to a very personal hand shake. When your cat jumps on your lap and presents her tail in your face, the invitation is obvious—not that you need to sniff! 13. Cats Love with their Tails. In a similar fashion, the “elevator butt” pose invites you to give special attention. Simply scratch her above the tail. Cats also signal their love when they approach you with the tail held straight up, and the end slightly tipped over. Kittens use this to greet their mother—and adult cats continue to treat their favorite humans like a beloved mom, with tails flagged high in respect. 14. Cats Love with Meowing. Cats rarely meow at other cats. Kitty uses these vocalizations specifically to interact with her people. Do you make a point to talk with those you dislike? Neither do cats! Even when kitty pesters you with lots of meows, she’s interacting with you out of love. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our ACOTD Angel BooBoo #216193~ ^~^ SHOUT-OUT VOTE for S #246680 ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! A Word With Whiskers – May 08 How Cats Love – Part 1 (from cats.about.com) ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ There's no doubt that cats love us as much as we love them. People who haven't been blessed with furry feline love have a difficult time believing this though, because kitties show affection very differently than people do. In fact, some cat behaviors that puzzle, aggravate or even offend people are a cat's way of expressing undying affection. 1. Cats Love with Purrs. Her purrs can mean a variety of things, from delight to expressions of concern. And kitty purrs range from soft and subtle to Mack-truck loud. When your cat purrs in your presence, you can be sure she’s expressing her love for you. 2. Cats Love with Bunting. When a cat cheek-rubs you, head-bumps your face, or pushes against you, he leaves his scented signature. These behaviors, termed bunting, are expressions of affection cats display to other cats, dogs-and their most favorite people. 3. Cats Love with Spraying. Say it ain’t so! But it’s true—if your cat has decided to baptize your bed or other belongings with urine, you should consider it a back-handed compliment. Cats use their own scent to calm themselves down. Kitties feeling upset over separation anxiety or other issues often target areas that smell the most like their beloved owners…such as the bed. 4. Cats Love with Rolling. When kitty throws himself on the ground at your feet, and rolls around, consider this a loving greeting and a solicitation for attention. Presenting the tummy in this fashion places the cat in a vulnerable posture. So cats generally reserve the rolling around for people they truly love. 5. Cats Love with Scratching. Just as with the spraying, cat scratching leaves both scented and visual marks of ownership. Pay attention to where your cat scratches the most. The areas most important to kitty often are related to those places associated with the owner, like a favorite chair where you sit. 6. Cats Love with Gifting. Mighty hunter cats that catch everything from toys to bugs, mice or frogs, often share the bounty with those they love. Kitties who present you with this bounty deserve praise. They wouldn’t bring these special gifts if they didn’t love you. 7. Cats Love with Grooming. Cats spend an enormous amount of time self-grooming. They also groom each other, but shared grooming behaviors only happen between friendly cats. Kitties that groom their human by licking your skin or hair, or even nibbling or sucking on your clothing, indicates great affection. This spreads familiar scent and helps mark you as an important part of her family group. ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Joseph #221080~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! My favorite thing! 8:00 pm - Wow! Watched TV with the people! My favorite thing! 11:00 pm - Sleeping on the bed! My favorite thing! A Cat's Diary - ================================ Day 84 of my captivity… My captors continued to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from clawing the furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant. Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded. Maybe I should try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair. I must try this on their bed. Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little kitty cat I was. This is not working according to plan. There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary confinement throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More important, I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of inducing something called ' allergies.' Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage. I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant. He speaks with them regularly, and I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait. It's only a matter of time. =^.^= ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^^~^~^~^~^ I hope I made you smile and I wasn’t being too catty! :) ^~^ Vote daily COTM QUEEN SPUNKY #161265 ^~^ Please keep her Mom & family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of beloved GM. ~A BIG CONCATULATIONS to our COTD Wan-Lea Kaylin #251700~ ^~^ Please visit CMR #46883 for daily mews ^~^ Thanks for your support to my catpaign! 1/29/13 Good Tuesday Morning from Barney-- +31 Last Tuesday of January? Got fitted for robes last night! Sure is a strange feeling.Kind of warm here again today, but they promise by tomorrow night we will be back in the sub-zero range. Just doesn't feel like a real Minnesota Winter without it! Hope all of you are ready for a real mystery today, because the story is a strange one. I do hope someday mom can get the pictures changed to digital, so we can post them. The cat in today's story was named Midnight and when mom fostered her as a kitten, she did not have a speck of white on her. She was cute and friendly and soon had a new forever home or so we thought. The problem started when she was five months old and went for her big girl surgery. All went well or so it seemed, but the next morning her pawrents noticed some of the dissolving stitches had come out. They immediately called the vet and brought her in. By the time she got to the vet all the stitches were out and her intestines were exposed, requiring immediate emergency surgery! Now her condition was such that it was even debated whether she could be saved or not. The vet did his best, but had to remove all of the bowel and most of the small intestine due to contamination. The adoptive family was very upset and called mom, because they were not sure they could care for Midnight. She would require a special diet, vitamin supplements and other medications, possibly for life. When she returned home, she also had bad diarrhea and was not always able to make it to her potty box on time. After trying to care for Midnight for less than a week, the family decided it was best to return Midnight to mom, since she had more experience in caring for a cat with special needs. At first Midnight had to be kept caged, was on Imodium AD and a number of other medications, which controlled the condition, but did not cure it. Mom was concerned about all the medications and Midnight's lack of progress. She decided to contact a holistic vet friend, who had helped with Pasha towards the end of his life. Whoa, we are running out of space here! You know what that means-- stay tuned tomorrow and the best is yet to come. Don't fret, its a good end, I promise! Mom will see what she can do about the pictures too. Have a Super Tuesday! Hi Mr. Kitty & MoMo Thanks for coming to help me honour my crossing day. It’s been 9 years since I very reluctantly left my home of almost 18 years to come to the Rainbow Bridge, and there’s still a special tie that binds my heart to the hearts of my family, especially to my best friend Big Bro Joe who shares my profile picture with me today. Did you know that according to some Japanese Buddhists, when the most spiritual of people pass on, the body of a cat becomes the temporary resting place of their soul? And they say that because of this, when that cat crosses the Bridge it becomes a very special, advanced spirit. True? Well, we Angel kitties will leave those discussions up to the humans. All we will say is that we are honoured to be so well thought of. Thank you for remembering me – Angel SmokeyCome visit me, COTM Scrapbook - Vote Whiskers #227256 in May!, Angels Jezebel & Pierre, K. 1/25/13 Rollercoaster High Friday +15 And dropping! Another down and up--- mom. can't you fix the weather? Barney here, if you haven't figured that out. Mom is tired and needs a nap already, so after we post here and on the CMR, she is going to claim a well deserved catnap. Had a moment of panic last night. Got a call from Rebecca/Malika's dad about 9pm. He was going out to visit a friend and though he would take her with him. Somehow she got out of her carrier and loose in the parking garage! She was hiding under cars and wouldn't come to him. He didn't think she could get out of the garage and it was heated, but he was afraid what might happen when cars started moving around in the morning. Mom did manage to calm him down a bit and told him how important it was to be calm when looking for a scared cat, because we pick up on human panic and were more likely to keep hiding. She also advised using tuna as a lure and for him moving as quiet as possible, using his eyes and ears to figure out where she was. He also had put signs up immediately, which turned out to be how she was found. While he ran in to call mom, someone else in the apartment building saw her and took her in, because of the cold weather. He called mom back about 11:30pm to say she was found and home safe! Mom did tell him she wanted a call, no matter what the time. Malika had her rabies tag on and is microchipped, but only the vet's number on her tag. That would have meant that the person would need to wait til morning to call the vet or take her into animal control, which on such a cold night probably wasn't happening. Well, we are so happy to be reporting that Malika is safe at home this morning and not having to ask your prayers for her, although we will ask prayers for any other lost pets in this brutally cold weather. Besides the cold, they face dangers trying too keep warm under parked vehicles, coming into contact with antifreeze and other toxic substances. It takes less than a teaspoon of antifreeze to kill a cat and the irreversible damage to liver and kidneys is done very quickly. It tastes sweet to us, so we may be easily fooled to try it. Humans, if you must take us with you, please make sure we are in a carrier and that the carrier is secure--- check all latches and nuts and bolts holding it together. Guess that is our message for today. We love you! Stay safe everyone. Pawrents, accidents happen with us, just as with your human kids, but some can be prevented. Even our mom has had a carrier start coming apart on her, so check, check, check! If something happens and your cat does get out, control your panic. Easier said than done, but you need to be able to think what to do next and not to panic your cat anymore than it already is.Come visit me, Our Precious Angels #75646, Heffner #130639-----VFP Goalie, Barney's Daily Inspiration, Handy Andy #149735 VOTE WHISKERS 227256 K. The Salt Pond Trail begins at the eastern end of Salt Pond Beach and heads inland (left) towards the salt pond. It is an easy quarter-mile walk with no hills. The trail skirts the western edge of the salt pond and continues on to the rocky windswept beach at Drunk Bay. Salt Pond The bottom of the salt pond is made up of a layer of red algae giving the salt pond a reddish-brown color. The distinctive smell of the pond comes from another layer of older red algae, which is found just below an intermediate layer of sand.Look for the delicate blooms of wild orchids along the trail and watch for donkeys, deer and birds, especially in the early morning.Because of its location on this arid and windswept part of the island, Salt Pond is the most likely place to find 100% natural St. John sea salt - no fat, no carbs, no cholesterol, no preservatives. Saltwater enters the pond from the sea by seepage at high tides and by waves breaking over the surface during storms. Salt Pond is one of the only places on St. John that is below sea level. This condition prevents significant amounts of pond water from flowing back out to sea. Constant, intense sunlight and ever-present trade winds encourage an exceptionally high rate of evaporation. When rain is scarce, the water becomes extremely salty. Water can only hold a certain amount of salt in solution and when the salinity of the pond reaches that point, the salt crystallizes. As the water level continues to drop, and more and more water is evaporated, a layer of salt is left along the edges of the pond. The longer the dry period, the higher the temperature, and the stronger the winds, the more this salt layer will extend towards the center of the pond and the thicker the layer becomes. You can collect salt during these times by scooping up the salt with your hands, if it is still wet and soft. If the salt layer is dry and hard, use a knife or other sharp tool. (If you've forgotten to bring a container, just walk over to nearby Drunk Bay where there is a great deal of flotsam, and you'll probably find something you can use.)Salt Pond Mud Baths The mud at the bottom of the salt pond is said to have beneficial qualities for the skin. The procedure as explained to me is to first apply the mud to the skin, then let it dry in the sun. Next return to the beach where you rub the dried mud into the skin and then jump in the sea to remove the leftover mud. Drunk Bay The trail continues to the rocky windswept beach at Drunk Bay. The easterly trades bring ashore an abundance of flotsam, which makes for great beach combing. Do not swim here. Breaking surf, currents and jagged rocks and coral make it too dangerous for swimming. 1/23/13 A Warmer Wednesday Here +7! Barney's back--- Mom slept in again today. Said she is trying not to come down with something. Been sneezing, as I do on occasion, only more. At least the weather is warmer, though going back to the deep freeze tonight. Well, back to my story and how I came to stay here. As I said yesterday, I started in the adoption program but, Zeus take notes (think he has already) I was stressing out to the point mom was afraid to take me out of the carrier! Hissing, Spitting, Claws out whacking! I would do anything to stay with mom. The thing that worked best was sneaking out of the house, when she let the dogs out--- walked right out under the big one's belly. His name is Lucky, by the way. Mom's rule, the rescues rule, is to keep cats indoors. A good idea, but not mine. That was one of my most fun games and if it was after dark, the better! Mom had to get one of those little lights out. I went all over the yard and even followed behind her--- she turned around and I was right at her heels--- he he he! We cats are soooo clever! Mom finally decided that if she didn't keep me, how could she be sure someone else would be so careful not to let me run. Lucky she did decide to keep me too, because I did have one health issue, I had been hiding, but the vet discovered one day, when I couldn't eat, due to pain in my mouth. My gums were inflamed and several of my teeth were loose and rotting. Not a good situation for us cats. Most of my teeth needed pulling and I am down to 3 fangs. Now you may ask, how can he eat? Very well, thank you, now that my mouth isn't sore. I even catch mice and birds, but mom has to rescue them, because they might slowly suffocate in my mouth. Its somewhat embarrassing. There are small critters out there telling strange tales of the toothless cat. Well, that is most of my story. Tomorrow, I will tell a bit about my 2 dogs, Ginger and Lucky, and how it helps to have large dog friends to do your bidding. I have them well trained. They know I have access to where their treats are on top of the fridge and are very willing to do a number of things for me, like propping the backdoor open with their butt. Have a Super Day and stay warm or cool, depending on where you, live. We love you all dear friends! 1/22/13 -10 Tuesday from Minnesota Barney! Hello again friends--- BBBbbbbbrrrrr!!!! That is all I can say about it and I am not going out til Spring! Zeus did try it again yesterday when mom let the dogs out. Luckily she had her coat on and just went out to see how far he would go. Not even halfway across the patio! He turned, looked at mom to tell her she must have done something and he ran back to the door as quick as his legs would carry him! I sat back in my bed an chuckled--- some day you will know better kid. Guess its finally time to start telling my own story. Barney looks thoughtful as he settles down beside mom to dictate his story. Some parts are on my page, of course, but I will try to pull it together a little more for you. I was born on a farm in Wisconsin, across the Minnesota border. There were a good number of young cats and somehow our farmer decided there were too many and was threatening to do us in! A neighbor called mom's group, among others, to ask for help with the situation. She said someone was going to shoot the cats! I was about 7-9 months old and one of those accused of contributing to the cat population explosion! I was friendly to humans and she wanted to find someone to take me out of there and get my Big Boy surgery. She thought I was part-Bengal and a beautiful spotted tabby. Well, you remember my current mom had dealt with a Bengal named Tyler/Toby before and so she stepped up and offered to be my foster. The rescue group was given permission to come on the farmer's property to trap and remove me and several other young cats for neutering and to go into the adoption program. We were neutered, given necessary vaccinations, checked for parasites and tested for FeLeuk/FIV. All our tests came out negative and I was delivered to my current mom to go into the adoption program. Guess I need to stop here, but you obviously know at some point she decided to keep me. I will give you a hint--- Zeus isn't the first cat to act badly at adoptions. It was also discovered that I had bad teeth and infected gums. No early dental care in my former situation to be had. Have a Super Day and those of you who live in cold Winter climates, stay warm, indoors, if possible. Please pray for, feed and give shelter to those, who cannot. Human pawrents, please spay/Neuter all kitties you are able to help in that way, whether your pets or ferals. If you cannot financially afford to help, contact rescues and make them aware of the situation.Come visit me, Our Precious Angels #75646, Heffner #130639-----VFP Goalie, Barney's Daily Inspiration, Handy Andy #149735 VOTE WHISKERS 227256 K. FORTSBERG TRIP Today I thought we could take a look at the ruins of one of the old forts that were built to keep St.John safe from pirates and others who wanted to take over the island. They say it was intentionally destroyed but I can't seem to find out why. After we check out the fort, since it's right around the corner from Hansens Bay, Easys beach, we can all hop on the sail boat " A Cats Grin " and spend the day on the beach. Cashmere and others have been cooking up plenty of food and Angel Sir Leo has The Crab Shack open. Most of you have been there and know where everything is. Fort Frederiksvaern is located at Fortsberg, a peninsula that juts out into Coral Bay separating Coral Harbor from Hurricane Hole. It is on private property owned by the Samuels family. Frederiksvaern, constructed at the top of the 400-foot high Fortsberg Hill, was first completed in the early 1720s. In 1780, the fort was intentionally destroyed. A round stone wall surrounded by an outer circle of pinguin were the first lines of defense. Within the stone walls of the fort, were the commandant's headquarters, a powder magazine, housing for five soldiers, four gun emplacements, a cookhouse and a mess hall. Three eight-pound cannons covered the approach from the land, and a sixteen-pound cannon faced the sea.Six more cannons were located at the water battery below the fortification. The cannons at the water battery still exist. Slave Rebellion of 1733 On November 23, 1733, a group of slaves carrying concealed cane knives killed six of the seven soldiers stationed at the fort and fired a cannon to announce the beginning of the historic St. John Slave Rebellion. “A number of Negroes from the warlike Amina nation took control of the fort while fulfilling their accustomed job of supplying the place with firewood. They struck down the small contingent of soldiers there with knives, which they had hidden in their bundles of firewood. After they gave their fellow conspirators the agreed-upon signal for the uprising - several cannon shots - the rebellion spread to all th frrderiksvaerne parts of the island...” There are plenty of lizards here to chase but be very careful, this is private property and it isn't maintained, no food, drink or facilities. We won't stay too long. Take care & stay safe ! 1/19/13 Good Morning & Happy Caterday! Barney Here--- Mom has her coffee, so we are ready to go. 29 degrees here and that is supposed to be the high today. We will see. They say the winds will howl amd below zero temps are coming from Canada. What part of "We don't want it" don't they understand? Back to Andy and Milo and a bit more info on the names. They came to us with the names, so we don't really know who named them. As far as we know, they did not come from another group, just a lady, who regularly feeds strays out of her garage. After they were returned from their first adoption, we added a CC page for them. Almost immediately we found out there were another Andy and Milo, and in MHL hockey! Hi Furrends! Mom changed our page to Handy Andy and Milo, but dropped Milo's name when he was adopted a few weeks later. So Milo was adopted by a lady, who had had a LH Black cat before and wanted one again. She only wanted one cat and, even though Andy and Milo had come in together, mom knew Andy got along well with us and would be OK. Andy missed his friend a lot, but soon another young foster joined us and then he was happy to have a playmate. Andy still was not adopted and one day mom noticed some sores on his skin, mostly on his back legs. She brought him to our vet and she concluded he might have an allergy, possibly to fleas or food or environmental pollen, as Spring had come. He didn't go outside and no fleas were found on him. She also listened to his heart and found a heart murmur, though it was very faint. Andy was first given prednisone for the skin condition, but it did not help much. It was actually a CC friend, who suggested her cat was on another medication and mom might ask her vet to try that. The new medication did work and was reasonably priced. It was due to Andy's heart murmur that mom decided he would stay with us. He was doing well, but she was worried that the stress of biweekly adoptions might be too much of a stress on his heart. Neither the group nor she could afford heart surgery, even if it would help, but we could provide a low stress home and lots of TLC. From Andy's behavior, he doesn't have any limitations from his health issues. He still plays rough and enjoys MHL on CC! Mom watches and loves him and gives what medications he needs. He will be with us for life, as long as he is enjoying the best quality of life we can provide. Well, tomorrow is Sunday and we invite you to ask questions about any of our stories this week or anything else you wish to ask. We will answer, if we are able. Have a Super Caterday and enjoy whatever you wish to enjoy! Give your pawrents lots of purr therapy. Please visit the Knight family, as their doggie Carly Knight(#11000DC) crossed the Bridge yesterday. Their note is also posted on the CMR. We hold them all in our prayers. 1/16/13 Wednesday--- Mid-Week, Mid-Month ! Barney here and our Catpaign is half over! Can you believe? Plus 26 degrees this morning here in Minnesota. The weather guesser says its up and then down to the deep freeze! I've hardly started talking about my current family. All the excitement and celebration the last couple days with Zeus's COTD yesterday! Wow! Now he is sleeping in like a baby. Not a peep yet this morning. If we missed anyone saying thank you for votes, shame on us. You are all precious to us and we are thankful to all. We do want to say Good Morning and Catgrat Fuzzy on his COTD today. May he have as wild and crazy a day today as Zeus did yesterday--- make it happen friends! Today its open, which means tomorrow is a surprise--- ??? Well, we talked about our foster? bro Zeus for a good two days. Today I want to talk about the lady of the house and not mom. Our sister Molly Jean runs the show. She came in as a foster just a bit after I did. I read on her page, mom said I used to give her the evil eye and pick on her-- don't remember that at all! Molly lived a hard life on the streets of Minneapolis. She was probably someone's cute kitten, who was kicked out of the house or let go when she reached the age of puberty/her first heat. People in her neighborhood reported to rescuers that she was living under a porch and had had several litters of kittens, who did not survive. She was still under the porch, it was winter, she looked pregnant and the landlord wanted her gone. The investigator from mom's group was worried that she might come to a bad end and called to see if we had room, which we did. Molly had kittens, but they died just after birth. She had a lot of parasites and was malnourished. Mom even waited a bit on her big girl surgery, because she needed to gain some health. The tips of her ears were frostbit. Well, obviously Molly's life was all uphill from here, but we will have to wait til tomorrow to finish the story. We will tell how she went from an abused street cat to a loving therapy cat, giving back many times to those, who rescued her.Come visit me, Our Precious Angels #75646, Heffner #130639-----VFP Goalie, Barney's Daily Inspiration, Handy Andy #149735 VOTE WHISKERS 227256 K. ARE YOU READY TO HIKE REEF BAY TRAIL ? The Reef Bay trail starts at Centerline Road about 5 miles east of Cruz Bay. The trail leads between Centerline Road & the ruins of the Reef Bay sugar factory which is close to Genti Bay beach. This trail is very well kept and descends 937 feet from the road to the Reef Bay Valley. It will take approximately 2 hours of downhill trekking for you to enjoy the entire hike. Along the trail you will see many beautiful and unique sights. At the start of your hike you will notice a stone stairway just on the southern side of the road. This is where your journey begins. As you begin, you will see an old stone wall. This is all that is left of the wall that once protected the horsemill that once stood on these grounds. You will venture off through the sub-tropical forest on a trail that follows the course of the Reef Bay Gut. You will enjoy seeing on the different tropical vegetation that is known in this beautiful upper valley. You will notice many signs along your way that will give you a wealth of information regarding the environment around this valley. Some of the trees that you will see as you begin your descent include locust, sandbox, kapok, mammee apple and mango. The next great attraction will be the Josie Gut Sugar Estate. All that remains is the ruins. You will see the horsemill and its unusual circular shape which is being supported by the stone wall. As you leave Josie Gut and head back down to the sea you will relax just a bit as the incline is not as steep and the atmosphere changes into a dryer forest. The trees are not as large and the greenery is becoming denser. You will see the ruins of a small home that was in built in 1930. This area is known as Estate Par Force. Miss Anna Marsh was once the owner of this home and would give her permission for visitors to travel on down to the sea or to see the petroglyphs. In 1938, Miss Marsh was murdered and the house was left to decay. The next intersection you will find on your hike down the Reef Bay trail is the Petroglyph Trail going west. You will love taking this path even if it is off your course. It might be a nice time to have your picnic before you travel on down the trail. As you hike the rest of the way to the bay you will see citrus trees such as limes. The closer you get to the sea the trail will go through some low marshy type areas. The holes that you can see in the ground are created by land crabs that make this area home. Now, you are at the end of the trail and the Reef Bay sugar factory ruins are in sight. Most of all the land that you travel from Centerline Road to where you are now standing was once owned by the Marsh family. The restroom facilities that you notice were constructed with monies that Ladybird Johnson donated after her hike down Reef Bay Trail to find their were no facilities available.****** Pictures on the botton of my page. There are many more pictures and more information if you google search it on your computer. You won't be sorry you took the time ! 1/14/13 A Monday Morning Wake Up! Barney waves! Actually we are the ones needing to wake up, judging from the votes already on Zeus and my, Barney's pages! It's only 5 degrees here, but since we are indoor cats, except when we manage to escape, we have to go by the dogs report and they came back with frost on their whiskers! Well, you might guess that today we will be talking more about Zeus, since its his day to run for COTD. His basic story has been told before. He came from a kill shelter in another state and someone in our group, who keeps an eye on the net, saw him. a couple other cats and a dog. Our group was able to take Zeus, another cat and the dog. Mom took Zeus and what an adventure that has been! He was 8-9 months when he first came to us. His big boy surgery and shots were done before he came to our home. Mom worked on his socialization with us, both cats and dogs and her. He goes to adoption events at PetCo and PetSmart every other Saturday. The main question people ask now is why hasn't he been adopted--- mom's question too. It is also the question of new fosters when they join a group, how long does it take? Previously we talked about Penny, who was adopted within two weeks. Zeus is still with us after six months. First of all, mom's group screens new homes very carefully. The cats and dogs are posted on Petfinder.com for our group and area. Zeus goes to adoptions every other week, twice a month. He does not show well, because he is very scared. He by now thinks he should stay with us. Mom loves him like crazy and he knows that. He hisses and spits at potential families, though mom did try Feliway last week and it seemed to help. She also got him a high-edged round bed, which he can hide in. Yes, we want very much to keep him, but our home is full and if we keep him, it means no more cats can come in until one of us crosses the Bridge. Not going to happen for a long time! We hope. Other than all his mischief, Zeus is a sweet cat and even demands his share of lap time. He still attacks mom's ankles and feet, but when she says ouch and enough and, if necessary, stops him with a hand on his scruff, he does stop. She then walks away and ignores him for awhile. Being ignored is not something Zeus enjoys! So there you have it. We are not giving up on Zeus. He is welcome to stay and we love him dearly, but at this point he is still going to adoptions and we are still hoping for a purrfect forever home. Mom's heart will break, but it will also heal, when we know its "One more stray out of harms way," the motto of our rescue.Come visit me, Our Precious Angels #75646, Heffner #130639-----VFP Goalie, Barney's Daily Inspiration, Handy Andy #149735 VOTE WHISKERS 227256 K. 1/13/13 Second Sunday! Barney here--- a hard morning to get mom and even the dogs up. Only 3 degrees out! Hefty and I curled up with mom last night and Zeus, Molly and Andy curled up in the cat beds in the spare room, Zeus's room. Mom shut Zeus in there, because he was being pesty and Molly and Andy opted to go in with him. Several of you asked to know a little more about Lynne and her cats, all of whom have since passed over the Bridge several years back, including Lynne. Lynne passed suddenly about 7 years ago from Cancer. During her life, she had done many things, including being a Science Fiction writer and, for the most part, writing reviews of Science Fiction books. While living with mom she was semi-retired and writing book reviews for a library publication, "What Do I Read Next." Concerning the cats, George was a beautiful black LH and Felecia's first husband. Reggie was her second husband and the father of Baby, or Kelly, as she was later known. Felicia was Siamese, Reggie a very bright orange, and Baby/Kelly was a dark tortie. George and Reggie were neutered when they arrived, but mom made sure Baby/Kelly and Felicia were spayed within a week of their arrival. After coming to mom, the cats lived long, indoor lives and passed from all age related causes. Only Felicia out-lived Lynne and became a good friend of Pasha and Agatha. Felicia was also very attached to mom and mom to her. Well, that is the end of that story, unless you have more questions. A rather short blog today, but tomorrow I am starting some stories of our current family, including Zeus, who will be running for COTD! Have a Super Second Sunday of January! Say that 30 times as fast as you can and your tongue may be twisted around your eye-tooth, so you can't see what you are saying! Hello Mr. Kitty and Momo Thank you for remembering Piu's crossing anniversary and and stopping by to say hi. 2012 was a bad year with the loss of Rocky in January, my mom Sandy in October and then Rusty the day before Thanksgiving. Rusty was my dad's cat and he was devastated (we all were). But another little kitty I named Boots appeared after Hurricane Sandy hit. So after gaining her trust over 2 months, my husband threw her in my dad's house on Christmas. She's exploring more each day and has her first vet visit on Friday. I'm scared to death as she is still skittish. It's amazing to me how many Angels there are now here on CC that were with us when I joined. Thank you for remembering my Piu. I can't believe it's been 5 years. KathyCome visit me, Rusty (10/15/94-11/21/12), Piu (1/20/94~1/9/08) & Rocky (2/14/98-1/30/12).

1/11/13 Hope its a Super Second Friday! Barney here! Had to enlist the dogs help today for getting mom up. A sharp bark and then I pounced on her! We have work to do, mice to catch, cans to open! Woke up to a beautiful sight--- that bright shinny badge on the CMR page! A very Special Catgrats to our CMR! You do so much and truly hold our community together! We are so glad everyone enjoyed Tyler/Toby's story. Yes, he did pass over the Bridge almost 10 years back, but mom still holds him forever in her heart. Cats come to our rescue in many ways. Often people have found cats and call the group hotline to see if we have room. We may have an opening in a foster home or will ask them if they can be a Foster/Finder, which means they keep the cat and either they or we do the necessary medical checks and neutering, and then they bring the kitty to adoption events, until it is adopted to a permanent home. Current volunteers may know of needy kitties in their own neighborhoods and ask permission to bring them in. Perhaps they have been feeding them or even have them in their home already, but need help with medical bills. Some, like Zeus, come from the internet. Volunteers may see lists of cats due to be euthanized at kill shelters and will seek out openings at no-kill shelters, who are able to rescue them. Other volunteers will do the transport of those kitties and dogs to their safe haven. Another way is when kitties themselves find a volunteer and ask to come in. Some years back mom was met at her bus stop by a young Calico named Penny. Penny meowed a mile a minute, when she saw mom get off her bus and head up the block to our house. It was winter and Penny was wet and probably had been lost or dumped, possibly because she was in an early heat. She walked with mom, sometimes running ahead meowing, and when they got to our house she stopped and looked at mom. Mom looked at her and asked, "Did you want to come in?" Not a moment of hesitation--- mom opened the door and Penny ran in. Mom popped her up to the spare room, got her a potty, bed, and bowls of food and water. The next few days she checked for lost cat posters, vets and other rescues to see if anyone was looking for a lost cat around 5 months old, possibly younger. Nothing. Penny was checked by the vet, spayed and went into the adoption program. Even with their strict screening practices, she was adopted within 2 weeks.Come visit me, Our Precious Angels #75646, Heffner #130639-----VFP Goalie, Barney's Daily Inspiration, Handy Andy #149735 VOTE WHISKERS 227256 K. Today, we remember Jim Croce Jim Croce (1/10/43 – 9/20/73)wrote the "Time in a Bottle" after his wife Ingrid told him she was pregnant with his son. He had finished recording the album just over a week before his death. The plane crashed about an hour after the end of the concert. The posthumous release included hit: "I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song". He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1990. The song's lyrics, dealing with immortality and the wish to have more time, came across as if he had had a premonition of his untimely death. Imagine having the power to pause or manage time. ********Time In A Bottle" by Jim Croce If I could save time in a bottle The first thing that I'd like to do Is to save every day 'Til eternity passes away Just to spend them with you If I could make days last forever If words could make wishes come true I'd save every day like a treasure and then, Again, I would spend them with you [Chorus] But there never seems to be enough time To do the things you want to do Once you find them I've looked around enough to know That you're the one I want to go Through time with If I had a box just for wishes And dreams that had never come true The box would be empty Except for the memory Of how they were answered by you •*´¨`*•. ¸¸.•*´¨`*•.¸¸ ::: (\_(\ ...*...*. ..*...*.. *: (=' :') :::::::: Chloe •..
