Kahlan was named after Kahlan Amnell, Mother Confessor, in the "Sword of Truth" book series by Terry Goodkind.
Aphrodite was named after the Greek goddess of love. I almost named her Nefertiti, but thought she looked more like and Aphrodite.

How We Met
Kahlan (blue tabby w/o white) & Aphrodite (w/white) are daughter and mom. Aphrodite (mom) was a feral cat I was trying to tame. She gave birth to Kahlan and a male kitten outside in the apartment complex on April 15, 2004. By the time I earned their trust, the male kitten had disappeared. :( Kahlan disappeared for three days and came back with a UTI. Brought her inside, took her to the vet and she stayed inside. A week later, Aphrodite came meowing at my door for help because she was in labor with Gimli & littermates. Kahlan helped her cat mom take care of the kittens even though Kahlan was just a 4-month-old kitten herself. A year later, Aphrodite got out and disappeared. Never did find her. I think she was happier being outside. About 10 months being here in this new house, Kahlan got out on SuperBowl Sunday 2008. She would come by, but we never could catch her. Just this week (8/22/11), a blue tabby shows up in the yard at midnight that looks like Kahlan. We think it might be her.
