Marbles

About Me

Active within 1080 Days

Hi! My name is Marbles

I am Domestic Mediumhair from Cupertino, CA

Nicknames: Bright Spirit, Lover, Young Lady, Sweetness, The Whole Package, Marbelous Marbles

Age: 9 years old

Gender: F

Coat: short haired

Education: She is constantly surprising us. She roams the car freely when we go on drives - Mom corrals her if she tries to get under my feet, but she doesn't seem interested. To soothe her in the car, we put a Mexican station on the radio, one with happy music that features the tube. She seems to like the tuba. And Barry White. When Mom has needed to go to the hospital, Marbles sits by her like a little nurse to make sure she's alright. One time I was on the phone with Mom when I was at work. Mom was sounding funny and I realized that her blood sugar was low (she is Type I diabetic). I could tell she might sink into a coma before the paramedics arrived but then I heard her say that Marbles was licking her thumb to stimulate her and keep her awake till the paramedics arrived. Marbles knows more of our neighbors than we do. She sits out in the hallway of our apt to greet everyone. She is patient with sick people and children. I consider her to be an unofficial therapy cat. Also, one time Mom closed the door to Marbles' litter box and instead of just "going" in a corner, Marbles pushed Mom's manuscript (she was writing a book) onto the floor and spread it out. Then she did her business on page 68 and folded over the paper to cover it up.

My favorite tricks and treats are: She stands up to lick the spoon before I put her food down. She dances with me, both in my arms and sometimes in front of my on her hind legs. She shakes her belly. I sing "Love Cat" to the tune of "Love Shack" to her. and Lately she has been into dried chicken breast with flaxseed and vitamins (Vitakitty) but she also likes Trader Joe's holistic feline treats. And her secret to a beautiful coat is Missing Link Feline formula every day!

Where I hang out: She changes her spot occasionally. When Mom was in the hospital recently, she was on or under her bed for most of the time. She didn't want to come out. I think she really missed cuddling with Mom. In the last week before Mom returned, Marbles did cuddle with me more often. She also likes to hang out in the kitchen near her bowl and has a high spot where she can look out the window at our courtyard.

My favorite grubs: Cantaloupe. Kirkland dry cat food (Cost Plus) and Trader Joe's canned food. Both of these foods have meat as the first ingredient and are inexpensive. I buy some expensive cans every once in a while - B.F.F. or B.G.

My pet peeves: Paramedics. The stupid smoke alarm in our apt (we live in a retirement community) that sometimes goes off for no reason.

What I love about my owners: Hmmm. She rescued me. And I rescued her. I had a good feeling about her. And I was right. She will never abandon me and I will never abandon her.

My cat hobbies: Cuddle. Play. Eat. Sleep on boxes. Re-organize cabinets and push things off surfaces to get my guardian's attention when she is sleeping. She loves my old New Balance shoe (just the right one) and rubs her face all over it and sleeps with it, one paw inside the shoe and her cheek on the toe of the shoe.

Pet motto: Love to eat, eat to love!

How We Met

I was working security at a large Silicon Valley company, second shift. One of the other guards noticed her. She was crying for something to eat and apparently was living with a feral colony but it was pretty obvious she was domesticated. My work was in the heart of Silicon Valley and residential areas were nonexistent so I suspected that someone had dropped her off. I had a bad feeling that if I didn't take her home that night, I wouldn't ever see her again. Marbles made the choice to come home with me. She followed me out to my car, jumped in without help and laid over my heart, purring all the way home.

Music, dancing, appetizers - parties usher in 2013
The first New Year's celebration dates back to around 2000 BC in Mesopotamia. The Times Square celebration began in 1904, when The New York Times opened its headquarters and hosted a big party, complete with fireworks, on New Year's Eve.
In 1907, the paper's head electrician constructed a giant lighted ball, made of wood and iron, weighed 700 pounds, and was lit by a hundred 25-watt bulbs.
Today, it's made of Waterford crystal, weighs almost six tons, and is lit by more than 32,000 LED lights. The party in Times Square is attended by up to a million people every year.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but New Year's celebrations can be so delightful! And since you've got a place to go--to see the ball fall--let us go, let's go, here we go!
Other cities have developed other ball-dropping traditions:
Atlanta, Georgia, drops a giant peach.
Eastport, Maine, drops a sardine.
Ocean City, Maryland, drops a beach ball.
Mobile, Alabama, drops a 600-pound electric Moon Pie. Tempe, Arizona has a giant tortilla chip which descends into a massive bowl of salsa.
Brasstown, North Carolina drops a Plexiglas pyramid containing a live possum.
Key West, Florida, drops an enormous ruby slipper with a drag queen inside it.

Quote from the movie New Yr's Eve: "And as you all can see, the ball has stopped half way to its perch. it's suspended there to remind us before we pop the champagne and celebrate the new year, to stop, and reflect on the year that has gone by, to remember both our triumphs and our missteps, our promises made and broken, the times we opened ourselves up to great adventures... or closed ourselves down for fear of getting hurt, because that's what new year's all about, getting another chance, a chance to forgive. to do better, to do more, to give more, to love more, and to stop worrying about what if... and start embracing what will be. so when that ball drops at midnight, and it will drop, let's remember to be nice to each other, kind to each other, and not just tonight but all year long." Oprah chimes in, "Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right."

While brave, enthusiastic merrymakers, revelers and tourists from across the globe flood Times Square to withstand the fierce winds and bone-chilling weather, mom will watch the festivities from the comfort of her cozy home. Fond memories, friendly smiles and warm hearts keep us bubbly and sparkling. We heartily toast the countdown to 12a.m. with friends and loved ones.

Purrs to you
Here's my vote for you furrfriend.
Hoping yours was a superb and idyllic weekend of relaxation.
Heard lovely duet, Tony Bennet with Carrie Underwood:

It had to be you,
it had to be you
I wandered around,
And finally found somebody who
Could make me be true
Could make me be blue
And even be glad
Just to be sad
Just thinking of you

Some others I've seen
Might never be mean
Might never be cross
Or try to be boss
But they wouldn't do

For nobody else
Gave me the thrill
With all your faults
I PURR you still
It had to be you
Wonderful you
It had to be you
Cause nobody else gave me a thrill
With all your faults,
I PURR you still
It had to be you.
