Monday mews & fun with the NICE crew
It’s still raining at NICE headquarters. It’s supposed to turn to snow later tonight & the temps are going to remain cold for most, if not all, of the rest of the week. There are Christmas boxes scattered everywhere in the living room right now. I’ve found several interesting things inside of them…including Zaboo…MOL! He got into one & jumped at me as soon as my paws touched the flaps. He can be just as ornery as me at times! Patches & I have been playing hide & seek behind them too. It’s been great fun so far but am looking forward to mom decorating the tree later because she puts beautiful jingle bells on it that are fun to swat at….MOL! Speaking of fun…here’s today’s brain fun of trivia for all you holiday spirited kitties out there.

Evie is a beautiful Norwegian forest girl currently living with her grandma and two fur siblings. She has traveled on a plane - can you believe that? - enjoys meeting new people and gets along with most other cats. She really loves spending time with "her people" and hates it when they have to go to work or sleep so long, MOL. Her favorite foods are Whiskas Temptations and chunks of chicken. You can usually find her hanging out on whichever bed has a person on it or in the hamper in the bathroom. Please paw on by her page, 162239, and cast your vote for her COTD honor. Want to know why her name is Splash? Well, you can’t tell by looking at her picture!
But when you see her close up, her pretty white fur is splashed all over with little black dots and some very interesting designs! Splash was a tiny little kitten, just waiting at the shelter when her forever family saw her for the first time! When they stroked her fur, it felt just like velvet. They knew she was the one and couldn’t leave without her! She has brought so much joy to the family! Splash loves to run and jump and chase laser lights up and down the walls, and all around....she’s a real bundle of energy! You are just adorable. Thank you for calling me a thriver - that's what my mom says, too. Shall I leave my daily blogs with you? I am telling my story and about my brothers and sisters throughout the month. Here is yesterdays and todays. It was June of 2006. I was a young kitten in a chaotic household. I was barely old enough to be away from my furmom. It was a lively household with some older children. They liked to play with me. One day they played too rough. We don’t know if they meant to hurt me, or if it was their ignorance in how to treat an animal gently. They picked me up by my hind feet and swung me around over their heads, laughing. It scared me awful, and I had a sharp pain in my back and then it went away. When they put me down, I couldn’t move my rear legs. I didn’t know what had happened. They ran off and left me alone. I don’t know how long I was there. I tried to drag myself to my food. A grown up came and put me by my food and water, and later yelled at me because I peed and pooped on the floor. I was put in a diaper and put outside. I got fleas from being outside. It itched so much and I couldn’t even scratch. I was kept outside in a diaper, until a neighbor lady came and took me to what I later learned was the shelter. It was a big building with lots of funny smells and animals. My life was about to change.
When I arrived at the shelter, the staff was appalled at my condition. I had live fleas, covered with flea dirt, and was excoriated from sitting in a wet, soiled diaper. I was very thin. The urine had burned me and caused an abscess on my butt. They carefully cleaned me and put some ointment on my butt. They saw I couldn’t walk. They wondered if I had something called rickets from poor nutrition. I kept leaking pee and had terrible diarrhea. They gently bathed me twice a day. The shelter vet saw me and sent me to a neurological vet specialist. There I was examined and had x-rays. They confirmed my back was broken. The shelter investigated and learned what had happened to me from a neighbor. They were hoping the damage to my spinal cord was only partial, and not complete. If it were partial, I might be able to use a litter box and be adopted. The vet had recommended I be put to sleep. Birthdays today: NOV 2: BAILEY #64021 Don’t forget to stop by Queen Lola (131462), to support her through her reign as Queen of November. And always keep the sick, injured or missing kitties and their pawrents in your prayers. There are many in need right now. Purrs and kitty kisses. Namaste. Mid-week meows from the NICE crew
Thanks for your support for Mafia yesterday Tiger & family!
We’re getting a little bit later start today. Trixie & Joseph have been romping through the house so mom was keeping an eye on them. Not that they’d ever get into anything they’re not supposed to right mom?…MOL! Anyway Joseph went back outside now so everyone is heading to our favorite nap spots. I’m happy to report that several of you got yesterday’s riddle or went “OH” when they read the answer…MOL! It’s a special Birthday SHOUT-OUT and everyone is invited!!
Mafia #181626 is turning 24 years old today, November 1st, & we’ve planned a big celebration for him! This handsome Siamese guy was picked up at a breeder by his dad & given to his mom on the first Christmas after they started dating. Mafia #181626 is a lucky guy to have left the breeder’s home when he did because shortly after he came to his furever home; all the other sweet kitties were lost in a fire. Mafia #181626 has the unique ability to notify his parents of any trespassers on their property by howling extremely loudly to alert them. His mom thinks he developed this special 6th sense after a bad neighbor injured his jaw with a hockey stick several years ago. Mafia #181626 survived the 1 ½ hour surgery & slowly awakened from the anesthesia 7 ½ hours later. This tough survivor guy now spends his days in the lap of luxury with his own heated pillow on his mom’s bed or in his custom built chalet in his very own room! He’s also recently acquired a set of kitty stairs to help him get into higher places so he can keep an eye on things like he’s so used to doing. We’d like to make this sweet fellow’s birthday a very special one for him & his parents to remember so please pounce by Mafia’s #181626 page today & paw him a COTD vote! Then we can all sit back to enjoy the cake & mice cream as he opens his gifts. We hope everyone can come by to make Mafia’s #181626 24th birthday a very happy & exciting one!
