About Me

Active within 895 Days

Hi! My name is Vicki

I am Domestic Shorthair from Ellwood City,, PA

Nicknames: China doll,

Age: 4 years old

Gender: F

Coat: short haired

Education: She was a gentle loving feral/stray cat who we met in the fall of 2010 while we were planning to TNR the strays before the winter cold set in. Vicki was not seen by us for weeks during 2011 winter months. However, just as we all gave up on her she re-appeared in time to be spayed. Her achievement was making it through a rough winter and yet not being late for her spay date.

My favorite tricks and treats are:

Where I hang out: Beside a heater

My favorite grubs: chicken

My pet peeves: Rental properties that don't allow cats. This caused my care giver much stress and is why I I did not officially have a forever home.

What I love about my owners: Vicki loved her caregiver, Isabella because she showered her with love and attention.

My cat hobbies: Snuggle up and be warm

Pet motto:

252 Question
Question is how do we keep the Raccoon out of the self-feeders that we must leave out for our cat colony when we can not be there daily in the winter months?
Mom has several good people helping her with the Camp Cats that do not have an indoor home. But all of these cats love their outdoor homes and would be very hard to place inside even in the winter. But several amazing blessing came to camp yesterday and made for a very interesting day of cat care. Beverly bought Vinnie a heated winter house and she bought raccoon proof storage buckets for the three feeding stations. Now all we need to figure out is how to keep the Raccoons out of the self feeders that we leave for the cats when the people can only come in once a week.

My dear friend Beverly (Izy's mom) was found dead. April 11th 2013. There is an empty space in my life now. I was planning to spend some nice spring days with her again this year. She was a very caring person, full of love and she did make a wonderful difference in all the lives she touched, human and animal alike. The last time I talked to her she was very happy and had many good things to share. "Dear Heavenly Father, welcome Beverly back to you with open loving arms remember all of her acts of kindness and relieve her from all sorrow and pain. Be with those of us who will truly miss her and are in mourning for her now, including her beloved little doggy Sarah and Izy girl cat and Frank who was by their side as they will need to mourn together and be comforted with your love. Amen"

244 Prayers for all
We are all glad to know that your hospital stay was worth going. We are glad you went and didn't put it off. Sometimes we don't want to leave our pets even and so we just push on. I had my first hospital visit this winter and I did put off going because I didn't want to leave my cat unattended. Yes Tylenol is a great pain remedy for people but so glad you mentioned that you are careful with the pets. Purrs are very comforting and cats are very cozy in times of stress.
To our new cat friends thank you for visiting and keep in touch. Visit Magellan if you get a chance. He is napping with his daddy now. Men can take naps in the middle of the day and I just don't know how they do it. I have way to much to do and I can not lay down and nap unless I'm very sick not even when I just don't feel good. I have to be very sick to nap in the middle of a busy day. Take care everyone.

Come visit me, Vicki, Tina, Izy & Magellan.

Good Morning!
Just want to let everyone know that mom is much improved and to assure everyone that the hospital did do a good thorough check of her heart. It was very scary, because everyone talks about heart attack symptoms in women being different and mom has already known friends her age with heart problems. We think mom did the right thing going to the hospital when she did and want you to know that when she walked into emergency with her symptoms, they immediately started an EKG, before doing any paperwork or waiting! Mom also knows how much we need her and we have been very attentive with the purr therapy. The dogs have been attentive too, with worried looks on their faces. Mom appreciates all your prayers and wishes and says she doesn't know what she would do without such a good community. Mom will continue to follow up with her doctor and keep everyone up to date. The pain is not completely gone, but tolerable even without Tylenol. Mom, a confirmed Ibuprofen user, did find out that Tylenol worked much better for this type of pain. She is being very careful to follow directions, because that medication can be hard on the liver--- also to be most careful we do not get any! We continue to prayer for all our CC friends and hope you have a Super Day! Still very cold here, but mom is hoping no serious snow.

241 Thank you voters LET'S ROAR
This is the motto of the day shared with me by another cat friend. We are officially in the spring cat rescue mode. I have been told about a cat that has a bad eye and I saw pictures of him today. I have an appointment with Frankie's Friends for April 6th and they will hopefully fix his eye when he gets neutered. I just have to get him to come to me so I can cage or trap him and take care of him through recovery. Also we have some other stray/ferals that have appointments for the end of April. But since I have only been back to camp for a week I don't know what cats they will be. So we are officially on the way and now we just have to get busy raising the funds to do all this good work. So ONE VOICE IS A MEOW ...... AND MANY AVOICE IS A ROAR. I'm thankful for all the help I get and always look forward to even more. Let's roar together.
The little mouse story reminds me of my morning wake up call. A friend who has had her first cat now for 6 months. Called to express her distress about a mouse that was on her floor in the morning. Well, her cat is a good hunter and maybe the mouse had a little too much green beer.

Happy St Patrick's Day! A Frosty +7 here!
Good morning friends. Thought we would try to make a round again on CC both of kitties we regularly visit and those new friends and some we don't know yet. Got to make this a c/p. We are still waiting to see if Zeus will have found his forever home. Spring has come and their are all lot more kitties on the streets that need rescue. no-kill rescues fill fast. Kill shelters are not a good option for us kitties anyway. That is why mom keeps doing what she does.

We are all well and healthy. The dogs have their physicals coming up April first--- April Fools dogs! When mom comes to pick you up from the vet, after staying there for Easter, they are not done with you! Shots coming up too, he-he. Think Handy Andy has a rabies shot due the end of April, but the rest of us are later in the summer.

The weather is still ice and snow here, with more snow coming this week--- will it never end? Sorry Barney still hasn't done any more stories, but promise we will work on that. Still have to get more pictures posted of our past kitties on the Inspiration page. Will try to label those too. Mom still has to do taxes and we hope that means a refund coming back-- we hope!

Now we are on our way to Pawty with Pushkin and all the other Irish kitties and then on to MHL mouse hockey tonight.

The Mouse on the Barroom Floor

Some Guinness was spilled on the barroom floor
when the pub was shut for the night.
Out of his hole crept a wee brown mouse
and stood in the pale moonlight.
He lapped up the frothy brew from the floor,
then back on his haunches he sat.
And all night long you could hear him roar,
'Bring on the goddam cat!'

I do think that often cats do get lost when they get out. I was doing very good at finding homes for adult strays after they were spay/neutered and they went into good loving indoor homes But........ as soon as they got out they were lost again. I've decided to just let the adult cats stay were they are because our four that we left as a stray colony have been here and well for three years at least. And they don't get lost and they are never even missing when we go to feed them. You guys just stay inside were you are safe and happy. Vicki got a wounded paw from being outside as a stray and she got sick the summer before she died and was brought inside but she still dies in November of 2011. Tina came to us a stray and she went in and out without ever getting lost and Magellan is her son and has been with us his whole life and he did get lost once. So you kitties are doing good to stay inside. Visit Magellan if you get the chance.

Those owls can be very dangerous. We have hawks here and they can also do a cat in. These birds of prey are most active at night. That is why cats should always be kept in at night even if they go out in daytime. J.C.

It is so nice to have new friends MiMi and JC. It is still nice to be able to go out into a fenced in area and watched. Now if you learn to stay in there you could be out more often. Magellan was almost owl food when he was a kitten too. He was just outside our door when he was swooped on by what we think may have been an owl (we only saw something but don't know for sure) but he came running in and went under the chair for the rest of the night and kept looking upward. Stayed in for only a few days. That was 12 years ago now and he seems to know about owls. When he was 11 months old we lost him for 3 days. But our golden retriever found him in a hole in the woods beside the field. We think something scared him in there and we always wonder if he would have ever come out if we would not have found him. He was not hurt just hiding.
Come by and visit Magellan.

Hi Vicki & Family
I could go out if I would stay in my fenced yard. It is a good sized yard, but I just have to climb the fence and look for trouble. Don't know why, guess it is just in me. Mom takes me out sometimes but she stays with me and kicks the fence if I start to climb. This makes a loud clang that scares me back. There are woods on one side and all sorts of tasty little critters. Mom won't even let me sniff them. Woe is me! Mimi

Happy New Year - This is the first month (Nisan?Abib) of the 36th year of the 120th jubilee. According to the new moon which marks the sabbath rest day each month.

Yes Vicki and the four that are still very much alive and well started out feral and the first winter we met them the would only eat. Well by spring we could handle them and now three years later they could go into loving homes. But....... we have not had the best of luck with re-locating. Seems that our kitties like it here and they stay put were we give them a warm shelter, food and water, grooming and most of all love.
Priscilla did good at her indoor home for two years but when she got out she disappeared.
Savannah took her first opportunity of getting out of her indoor home and she was never seen again. I understand that Savannah was still on the wild but gentle side when she got a home away from camp.(A camper threatened to kill her so we had to move her)
Emily - Got that loving home so fast that I didn't have time to seriously think about keeping her. She did so good here with us and even as the stray over the winter. But she did not stay at her new home. This breaks my heart every day.
So we are going to work harder at leaving these older cats here at camp and spay/neuter them just like the four that are doing very well and much better than the ones we found homes for.

Come visit me, Vicki, Tina, Izy & Magellan.

I was not able to punch in the # for Angel Maggie it did not take me to her page or a memorial for her it took me to an advertisement.
We were unable to make the ceremony due to moving back into camp and then having internet interupted while electric is being repaired. Also it was very import to put some time in with our outdoor cat colony after being gone for two months. The weather was wonderful and we cleaned things up and they were all fine. Removed the self feeders so that we do not attract the racoons and such and today we will wash up the blankets and sweep out the leaves and clean the water and food dishes. Trigger, Meano, Kelly and Goldie are doing fine. We have at least two new camp cats that I have not met but have been told about. One is a female with a bad eye and most likely pregnant and the other is a very friendly gold male, who has made his self at home on a friends patio. So our rescue TNR is already underway. This means that I may not get to spend as much time on the cat channel has I have for the past few winter months. But there are many cats out there that need us and so away we go.

232 Magellan back to camp
We are packing up and returning to camp today. I think that Magellan knows this but my favorite part of returning is watching him as we pull in the gate and drive the last mile to home base. He is so much fun to watch. It takes us several back ups to park the motor home straight and that is too many times for Magellan to wait patiently and one year he went over to pull up the door lock from standing on my lap. Well I quickly pushed it back down and he quickly swatted me. It brings me so much joy when we finally open the door and let him out. He use to run real fast and jump right up his favorite maple tree and this was adorable then the year that I decided it was a photographic event and I should film it - He hasn't done it since. Maybe today he will. The weather is suppose to go up to 60 degrees tomorrow and sunny so we are looking forward to being outside. Magellan will love taking a walk and not having to be in his stroller and climbing a real tree instead of his rope tree. But.... I believe he will miss this big window view that looks into an interesting patch of woods. I am anxious to check on the four outdoor cats and bring them a nice warm meal and a good brushing and snuggle time. They have become very social with us the care givers and still somewhat feral with others so it's good. It's time to go home.

Come visit me, Vicki, Tina, Izy & Magellan.

~Trixie's Tantalizing Animal Tales~ March 4th
Happy Monday sweet furiends! There nothing like getting a late start on the day, & that’s exactly what I meowed at mom when she was checking her e-mail instead of getting my important campaign work accomplished…MOL! Thank you for the votes you pawed my way yesterday! Each one is treated like a national treasure in my memory archives & is deeply appreciated!Okay sweet kitties…I’ve told you about some of the world’s smallest animals so I think it’s only fair to devote some time to a few of the world’s largest ones. We’ll start off with a common critter that many of you have in your own homes…although probably not as big as this one…MOL!
WORLD’S BIGGEST DOG- Over the past two odd decades there have been many dogs which have been featured in the Guinness book of world records for their extremities. Leading the list of such hounds is HERCULES, an English Mastiff, which was inducted in the Guinness book of world records back in 2001 for being the world’s biggest dog, weighing 294 lbs. and having a 39 inch broad neck. Hercules was three years of age, and has paws that are the size of a softball! He may be huge, but is very well-behaved. As a puppy Hercules was large, but his owner didn’t think that he would go on to become the world’s biggest dog. As far as diet is concerned, his owner maintains categorically that he has never served Hercules with anything extraordinary and that Hercules’ size is totally natural. They have fed him what they would have otherwise fed any normal dog. Hercules is a dog that enjoys the limelight too! It was in 2001, when Hercules was declared as being the world’s biggest dog that his owner came to know about the limelight-loving nature of this pooch. Hercules would go wagging to the interviewers and in front of the cameras, which made him a lovable animal to everyone he met. He was featured on many news and daily shows, and was even featured in a few commercial ads. Whatever it was, the world’s biggest dog was willing to try out new things, much to the surprise and approval of its owners. Later on, due to his loving nature, the world largest dog was doing shows and was booked for various birthday parties. He was also allowed to meet and get photos shot with children who came to see him from around the world. Hercules, in true sense, stands as a testimony to the phrase “the gentle giant”!

WOW…I’m SO glad that our family dog Sammie didn’t want to achieve a world record as one of the biggest dogs. I feel small compared to her as it is so can only imagine looking up to one the size of a Shetland pony…MOL! Tomorrow we’ll be heading to to see another world record holder but this one lives on a farm so wear your jeans & mud boots! Thank you so much for your loving votes of support for my campaign. Have a pawsome day dear furiends!

~Trixie's Tantalizing Animal Tales~ March 2nd
Thank you for your loving paws of support yesterday as I started off on the campaign trail Vicki! Today I promised you a Zoo visit so take a seat on our plane & get ready for a unique travel experience as we head to Argentina! Our pilots today are Hot Rod & Winslow but special thanks go to K Pete for making sure the planes were ready! We’ll be met at the airport by Lola & the BA kitties so they can show us the way to the LUJAN ZOO! (The planes soar into the sky & the kitties all settle back to await their arrival in Argentina.)
While we’re in the air let me tell you a little bit about the LUJAN ZOO in Argentina. Often referred to as the most controversial and dangerous zoo in the world, Lujan Zoo is one of the few places in the world where you can have a relatively safe close encounter with some of the most vicious wild animals on Earth. Located about 58 kilometers from Buenos Aires, the Lujan Zoo is reachable by bus from Plaza Italia. The trip takes about an hour and a half in a comfortable, air-conditioned coach with reclining seats. When we get dropped off on the side of the highway, don’t panic because we are in the right place. All we need to do is cross under the overpass and look for the zoo sign. Upon arrival at the Lujan Zoo, you might think you’ve come all this way to experience what might appear to be nothing more than a petting zoo, but the truckload of freshly-butchered meat passing by will make you start asking yourself questions. Rather than the standard miniature horses and timid domesticated animals you might expect, at Lujan you’ll get up close and personal with carnivorous lions, tigers and pumas, not to mention camels and elephants. The monkeys go about their day and survey the human onlookers with disinterest. One of the first cages nearest the entrance is inhabited by lion cubs as well as dogs. For the first few months, the lion cubs will learn obedience training and other important behavior from the domesticated dogs. The dogs will help the lion cubs learn to be more docile in this setting where they will interact with humans. At present there are several lion cages that you can enter, with lions grouped and separated by age. It’s interesting to see how their personalities and behavior develop. Prior to entering any of the cages, visitors are instructed not to make fast, sudden movements or excite the animals in any way. Young children/kits may enter the cage with dogs and cubs with adult supervision, but they’re not permitted to enter the cage with the adult lions. While words cannot effectively describe the Lujan Zoo, it is simply something that must be experienced to fully appreciate.
(The planes touch down & all kitties debark.) Well kitties there are Lola & the rest of the BA kitties waiting to take us to the buses that have been reserved for our trip to the beautiful & unique LUJAN ZOO. Have fun with the animals & I’ll meet you back here promptly at 7 for our return flight.

Happy purrs,

224 still Please remember to vote when you visit
I would love to check out Peebles the smallest cat in the world on Face book. I will try to search Peebles and if that doesn't work can we get a direct link to it? Or is there another way to find Peebles.

A friend has brought to my attention the importance of having our cats microchipped.
And I would like to add that we need to make this microchipping part of our rescues and educate others when they find a stray. It may have a microchip and if the cat is taken to any veterinarian they will check for the microchip free. You may be able to return the poor kitty to her owners.
Tina came to us in 2010 and I never knew about microchipping until she went to the Banfield Veterinarians PetSmart visit. They checked her for the first time after she had been to several veterinarians and I had her for several years. Whow I'm glad she didn't belong to someone. At that point I would not have been able to return her. However, I still would have contacted the microchip owner just in case they were worried sick over her all of those years that I was caring for her.
Vicki and four other cats that I care for went through TNR programs for feral/stray cats and after being spay/neutered their ears are tipped or notched to identify them as such. Also these cats may have a tatoed belly area to help keep them from a second surgery. We need to make cat rescuers aware of this.

Come visit me, Vicki, Tina, Izy & Magellan.

Happy March 1st everyone! It’s time to wake up because there’s a calico cyclone pouncing into your homes & my happy twirls & spins will twist you around until you’re dizzy…MOL! Most of you have watched me grow up here on CC after I was brought to my furever home on March 16, 2010. I was a wee little thing then but my catitute was already full grown & I made myself right at home in my new surroundings! And then I started pouncing around CC…MOL! Needless to say I made my catitude known around here too but you accepted me with open paws & loving furiendship that will forever be cherished. Okay…before I get teary eyed I’d better concentrate on my campaign.
To start off my COTM campaign I’m going to tell you about some of the world’s smallest animals. Please watch where you’re pouncing today & don’t swish your tails too hard so we don’t hurt any while we’re looking at them! We’ll start off with…the WORLD’S SMALLEST DOG IN TERMS OF HEIGHT: the smallest living dog is Boo Boo, a long-haired female Chihuahua who proves that good things come in small packages. Boo Boo is just 4 inches tall and weighs in at a mere 2 pounds. She lives in Raceland, Ky., with her owner. WOW…only 4 inches tall means she could be mistaken for a rodent if a cat has bad eyesight…MOL! The next dog on our visit today would have the same problem so please keep your claws retracted kitties or we could have a lawsuit on our paws! The WORLD’S SMALLEST DOG IN TERMS OF LENGTH: The smallest dog in terms of length is Heaven Sent Brandy, a female Chihuahua who measured 15.2 cm (6 in) from the nose to the tip of the tail on 31 January 2005. Brandy lives with her owner in Largo, Florida. Now we’ll move on to some petite pooches that deserve our respect for their abilities! WORLD’S SMALLEST WORKING DOG isTiny Lucy! Meet 6-inch, 2.5-pound Lucy from New Jersey who Guinness recently named the world's shortest working dog. Besides being incredibly cute and tiny, this Yorkshire terrier is also a therapy dog.
Since we started with dogs today it’s only fair for us to end with our own species…MOL! Now we move on to…the WORLD’S SMALLEST CAT: Mr Peebles, a 2 year old domestic cat of Central Illinois holds the Guinness Book of World Records award for the smallest living cat (his small stature is due to a genetic defect). Weighing in around 3lbs he is 6.1 inches high this is definitely the smallest cat I’ve ever seen! Mr. Peebles also has his own Facebook page so pounce over to check it out.

And so my first day of campaign chaos ends & the tiny dogs & cats can go back to napping. Since tomorrow is Caturday we’ll be taking off to visit a zoo someplace in the world so plan to be at the community airport early to get a good seat on one of our planes, & don’t forget to bring along your camera. Thank you for your paws of support & have a beautiful day!

Loving purrs,

224 My cat colony
It is snowing here today and we have decided to stay away from camp and our outdoor cats at least one more week. But the other care giver will be checking in on them today and hopefully all is well. We leave self feeder and lots of water dishes (but they will freeze and hopefully thaw.) They have a big dog - igloo box with cozy warm and dry blankets. (We check the blankets for dampness and they are always fine) Straw didn't work as it got wet and stinky and it made a real mess on the protected patio area in the spring when we had a big clean up. All four kitties do sleep inside together as we have seen them come out one at a time and warm as we all know a snuggling cat can be.

Come visit me, Vicki, Tina, Izy & Magellan.
