Hi Laci!
Thanks for your furiendship and vote of support to my catpaign!

I left a vote with purrs and hugs and something to make you smile:)

THE PILL -

Before you even attempt to give your Cat a pill
Be sure you can do it or you will end up ill
To give a Cat a pill will be no easy task
Protective clothes are needed plus a clawproof mask
For after the pill gets past that cute little nose
It must pass a canyon of razors where no finger goes
Hold tight to those legs that have very soft paws
Because behind them are daggers that can win any wars
So take this advice before you give that pill to your pet
Take your Cat in the car and leave the pill to the VET.

Hi Laci
Day 30
Thank you for stopping by and pushing my votey button. You are the best furriends ever. I can’t believe we are already at the end of the month. I hope you enjoyed my catpaign. Here are my furriends and their rankings. I saw Gromit get her giant rosette at the Del Mar show. I am currently ranked at 38 but I don’t go to many shows and I need to place in those shows. These kitties go to most of the shows and always place. They are use to being in the shows, some have been going for years. Go to cfaswhhp.org, Past HHP winners, 2011-2012 to see their pictures. They are so pretty. Some were found on the streets, some were rescued at local shelters or rescue groups. Gromit was found in a back yard She is the oldest kitty showing.

Thank you for allowing me to be your COTM candidate for April. It has been so much fun. You can find the rankings of all the kitties that have placed in a ring, how many rings and where they stand now. Just go to the CFA website in your area or just look at the CFA website in my area.

Hi Laci
Day 27
Thank you for coming by and pushing my votey button. I am so lucky you to have so many new furriends and old furriends.
We are getting closer to the end of the month. I must admit, I’m getting a little nervous. So have any of you decided to try a cat show? Did it sound appealing to you? I must admit it is fun but sometimes the shows are just to loud for me.
“Everything a cat is and does physically is to me beautiful, lovely, stimulating, soothing, attractive and an enchantment.” Paul Gallico from “An Honourable cat
“I think one reason we admire cats, those of us who do, is their proficiency in one-upmanship. They always seem to come out on top, no matter what they are doing-or pretend to do. Hi Laci
Day 26
Thank you for all your votes. I am so excited. We are almost done with the month. I am one special little kitty.
Today is my Sister Callie’s first year Crossing Anniversary. She was so special. I knew when mom first rescued me I had to get Callie’s approval. I knew she was the boss. MOL
Now that we have talked about CFA Shows and TICA Shows I just don’t know what else to meow about. I am going to another CFA Show but we need to decide which ones. More traveling in the car. MOL In case I didn’t tell you, you can’t wear a collar at the show. Some rescues have a collar on and we let them know they need to take the collar off when they get put in the judges cage. At the CFA shows, we always cheer for all the kitties getting a rosette in the household pet category. We are the noisy bunch. MOL
I think I will leave some Cat Quotations. We are smarter than humans but they just don’t know it. Hehe
“The cat has been described as the most perfect animal, the acme of muscular perfection and the supreme example in the animal kingdom of the co-ordination of mind and muscle.” Roseanne Ambrose-Brown

Hi Laci
Day 25
Thank you for coming by and leaving a vote. I am so happy you take time with your busy schedule to come by my page. You are all the best.
I don’t know about you but I think TICA sounds a little scary to me. I know some of you show in TICA and are use to it. I don’t know if could have judges looking and judging me like a purebred. I think my cuteness does pretty good for me . MOL
How many of you go to TICA shows and how many to CFA shows? Do you have to travel far and do you like the car? Mom is lucky we all don’t mind the car. We even go to stores with mom after we go to the vet. I don’t mind but sometimes I just want to be home. Right now I’m on the couch with mom writing up my blog. MOL
I have a question of the day. How many of you like to travel in a car? My sister Angel Callie loved to ride in a car. She always had to look out the window. I just like to relax and watch mom. So does Smokey and Angel. Angel Sassy didn’t like the car at all.

Hi Laci
Day 24
Thank you for pushing my votey button. I appreciate you stopping by and visiting me every day.
Penalties: Judges can penalize but not disqualify for unrepaired umbilical hernia, damaged ears or eyes as a result of injury, spots, patches, or sprinkling of incorrect color i.e. color faults other than lockets and belly spots.
Cats that have been declawed shall not be penalized. As you remember, you can’t be shown in the CFA shows if you have been declawed.
Household Pet Color Classification-Each household pet may be present to an Allbreed Judge in order to determine the correct color on each entry, prior to the start of judging, and that classification will hold throughout the entire show.
My color classification is Crème and White. I am medium hair length. I also have a kink at the end of my tail. That would be a disqualification as a pure breed in CFA but I could be shown as a household pet. A judge once told the visitor to the cat show when he was handling me that I had a kink at the end of my tail and it was a disqualification for pure breeds but it’s character for household pets. MOL I wounder what TICA would say about my tail.
Have a catriffic day. Enjoy lots of mom and dad time.

Day 23
Thank you for pushing my votey button. I appreciate you stopping by my page and all your support.

Polydactyls in any breed authorized approved standard shall be limited to no more than 7 toes on any foot. Undershot or overshot jaws or any malocclusion of the jaws, visible or invisible tail faults are disqualification at the discretion of the judge or as required by the board approved standard. Day 20
Thank you for all your support and stopping by and pressing my votey button. You are all so very special and it means so much to me that you stop by.
So have any of you looked for a show close to where you live yet? Are you going to send your mom or dad first to the show? Remember they can get all the information on how to show you at the shows website, or the flyer. You might even get showed without you knowing until it’s to late. Mom never tells me it’s almost time for a show. I figure it out by our outings to the stores then having my nails done and my bath. Mom you can’t fool me, I know. I just don’t know how far we have to travel.
Ok, now it’s time for all of us to find out about the TICA(The International Cat Association). Mom has the booklet with the show rules. I wonder if I will go to a TICA show.
All TICA shows are in Arcadia, Ca at least 2 ½ hour drive. SIGH I guess I am getting real good at traveling.
A kitten by definition is a feline under 8 calendar months of age. A Cat is a feline not less than 8 calendar months of age. Benched cats are cats, kittens, alters, and household pets present and qualified for an entire show. Registered cat a pedigree that has been filed with an Executive Office and assigned a registered number. A Recognized Breed is any recognized breeds of felines listed in the rules.
Wow this booklet is big. I’ll get you the information during the last 10 days of my catpaign and if we need more time during my reign.
Have a catriffic day. Enjoy mom and dad time

Day 18
Thank you for all your support. I really appreciate you stopping by and pressing my votey button.
Now a little something from the Pasadena show. For the first time not only did one person come by to ask how much mom wanted for me but two people asked. Mom said I’m not for sale. The second lady wasn’t convinced and kept asking mom and hanging around. She asked mom what kind of cat I was and she said a household pet. Mom had a feeling and didn’t want to say I am a Turkish Van at first. She said no what kind of cat. Mom said she believe I was a Turkish van and the lady said she knew that and they are very expensive cats. She asked again if I was for sale and mom said no. Mom knew if she had to use the litter box that the other mom’s and dad’s know who I belonged to and if someone tried to open my cage they would stop her. That lady showed up at one of the rings I was in and kept trying to ask the judge what kind of kitty is was but they don’t all answer questions when they are judging. Then when mom took me to go back to my benching cage the lady ask for me to go to a judge that was taking a break and she asked her what kind of kitty I was. The judge did say I looked and had the features of a Turkish van. Mom still said I wasn’t for sale. Can you believe she showed up again when I just left one ring for another after I won my rosette. We just couldn’t shake her. Mom said all the money in the world isn’t enough for me. I am one lucky kitty to have found my furever home.
I have heard at the Santa Monica show, which one day I will be attending has a lot of strange humans. One time some guy was dressed like a kitty and was trying to be a kitty. I heard some movie/tv stars go to that show with their family. I just hope nothing weird happens when I’m there. MOL

Day 17
Thank you for all your support and pawing by my votey button. I appreciate all the votes I’m getting.
Now I will tell you my rescue story. Mom went outside to put food out for the ferals. She went to the side of the garage to put some food for the tom cat. He waits there and some of the others are closer to the house. Mom put his food in his dish, he always stood by mom when she poured his food. Then all of a sudden 3 kittens came running out from between the shed and garage. We were so hungry. Mom looked at the tom cat and said this is new. He just stood and watched us. Mom said he was a very good kitty. Then mom went in to get a carrier but we scattered. The next day she caught one of my sibs then saw the other one, she was very shy between the garage and shed. She slowly put food down for her to eat then with the other hand caught her. She took her in and put her in the room with my brother. She never saw me, I wasn’t there. The next day she could here me, I was meowing but I was caught in the neighbors yard and it was a mess with a doggy barking at me at the end of a rope. Mom kneeled in the alley and pulled the fenced up. Put some food out and I came running. She was able to get me then took the food to the tom cat. I was with my sibs. We went to the vet and got deflead and got medicine for our ear infections. We were under weight and was 4-5 weeks old. My brother was only a 1lb and my sister and I was 2 lbs. When mom brought us out to the front room I knew this was my furever home. I even got on the couch to let Callie know I wanted to stay. I never got real close, I knew she didn’t like that. She looked at me then went to sleep. I knew I was in. Mommy found a home after one month for my sibs. They are together and inside kitties. The lady that adopted them was a vet tech that just moved to Oceanside, Ca It’s at least an hour away from where we live.
Have a catriffic day. Get lots of mom and dad time.

~Meows from Queen Trixie~
Today is a sad day in our nation as we have once again been attacked! I ask that everyone please observe a moment of silence for those that have lost their lives & to send prayers of healing to those that were injured during the terrible terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon yesterday. Gentle hugs & prayers go out to all the people of Boston as they endure the hardships & grief of this unprovoked & senseless attack.
Since this is a very downhearted time for many people in our nation I’d like to try to cheer you up with a couple of heroic doggy tales. The first one is from one of the dogs on DC & the other one is from one of our own precious feline families.

MAX PINKOWITZ is a happy 10 year old doggies that was very happy to find his forever home when he was 2. His mom takes him for walks a lot & gets to meet a lot of his doggie friends. Up their street live 2 very aggressive chi pups that weigh about 3 pounds each, which his mom calls ‘killer chis’. If they’re out with their mom they come running toward the street barking like crazy. Last year they were playing outside with their mom when Max & his mom were walking up the street. Max & his mom saw a car coming & then mom was stunned by what happened next! Max went toward the ‘killer’ Chis and blocked them from running into the street!! Mommy was so proud of him because sweet Max saved the chi doggies that day by preventing them from being hit I hereby present Max with the Queen’s Medal of Gallantry for keeping his fellow canines safe from harm.

This one is from EDDIE #153057. Once a few years ago when mom was on vacation, she left her motel room to walk about a 1/2 mile to a restaurant. The motel had a porch and when mom went out on the porch to leave she saw a large dog and wondered where he came from but took off as planned. She was curious as the dog followed & on the way they passed a field where there was a very scary man walking toward them. Mom felt safer with that dog right near her & the dog escorted mom to the restaurant then left. Luckily Mom’s walk back was uneventful so mom thinks that God sent along an angel dog that night to keep her safe & is grateful for God's care.
We’ll never know this special dog’s name but have to agree that this special canine was indeed a guardian angel sent down to protect mom so that she wouldn’t be harmed by the stranger that thought about approaching her.

Thank you for sharing your special stories with me Max & Eddie & thanks to all of you that pounce by to visit me at the Imperial Cabin. I’ll be back again on Thursday to visit you.

Loving purrs & a chicken strip vote,
Queen Trixie

Hi Laci
Day 15
Thank you for all your support and pawing by my votey button. It’s so special that you come by my page. It truly means a lot to me. I can’t believe we are already half way through the month.
My next show was Opposites Attract Cat Club presents the first annual A-Cat-A-Me Awards in Pasadena, CA Sept 15, 2012 . Again 2 ½ hour drive one way and I was up against 23 kitties.
I won another rosette in my 4th ring. It was the same judge that gave me a rosette in the Hemet show a week before. He’s the one that tells the visitors that he chooses a kitty he would like to take home.
Now you know how I got my shelf. 5 rosettes I have on my shelf. If I get any more mom says she will think how she is going to display by rosettes. Hehe I have pictures of my rosettes and me around my shelf. Now everyone knows whose shelf it is.
Instead of a toy, mom bought me a kitty stroller. She always wanted one for Callie but they are real expensive. Those of you who have stroller might have paid $150.00. My stroller $90.00. It was a very hot day that day. It was 100 in Imperial Beach where we live and we were north and inland. A lot hotter 118. Mom said we will stop on the way home to eat. We usually drive straight through. I got to go into Denny’s. I just slept in my stroller. It was so nice to be with mom. No one said anything either. When I popped my head up to look out, I heard the lady in the booth behind us said oh a kitty, that is a kitty stroller. I have heard of those. Then a teenager walked by and gave a double take. I guess he never saw a kitty in a stroller before. MOL
Have a catriffic day and have lots of mom and dad time.

Hi Laci
Day 14
Thank you for all your support. It is truly appreciate. Thank you for taking time to push my votey button. I love for all of you to come by every day.
The first four pages in my gallery is from some of the shows. The pictures of me on the carpet is right after a bath. I don’t take pictures of mom after her bath so I don’t know why she does that to me. Some of the pictures are in my benching cage, some in the judges cage, some are me with a few of the judges and one of my mew kitty stroller mom bought me at my next show I’m going to talk about later. I even have my own shelf at home. Mom put it up after my next show too. The two small red/white rosettes are the new merit rosettes we get at the Del Mar Shows. They usually hand out merit ribbons for household pets at the shows but the Del Mar shows we get the Rosettes in the first ring only.
So much to learn about isn’t there. I don’t mind. It’s an adventure. Everyone loves and adventure. OK Angel doesn’t she is a scaredy cat and so was Angel Sassy. Don’t let them know I told you. Hehe
I really don’t even mind the long trips. Most of the shows are at least 2 ½ hours one way. Mom and I are usually gone 15 hours but at least I can sleep. Mom puts on music and tries different stations for me. It’s so nice to be the center of attention.
So have any of you decided to be a show cat yet? Will you like the bath and getting your nails done? Having strangers handle you? I know some of you are ready to step into the ring.
Have a catriffic day and have lots of mom and dad time.

Hi Laci
Day 13
Thank you for all your support and coming by to leave me a votey. You are all the best and I’m blessed that you take time out of your busy day to see me.
Ok some of you might have not like that fact that the show kitties get a bath. They get primped and blown dry. It can be scary. I know one day mom got out her hair dryer and I didn’t like the noise. I just watched mom and didn’t like her pointing the thing at me. My next show a judge told mom she should blow dry me after a bath so I can fluff up like a Persian. Mom said I don’t like a blow dryer but maybe if she finds a quiet blow dryer. I guess I will be getting a blow dryer. SIGH! I’ll see if I like it but I think mom is just throwing her money away. I don’t want to look like a Persian, if I did I would be a Persian. MOL
I don’t mind a bath. I have been real good for the groomer and now that mommy works again she gives me a bath. I do well for her too. I guess I shouldn’t have jumped in mom’s tub when it was full of water and swam a little before getting out. It just blew my cover liking water. One of my furriends mom gave a sample of shampoo she has for mom to try on me. It brings out the white in my furr. Mom used it on me for my last show. I did look shiny and pretty. I hope mom doesn’t find out. She might try it on me before I’m scheduled for another show.
Even after a bath, I’m a mama’s girl. I love to be close to mom. Even when she takes me to a show, after I come home use my litter box and eat, I go lay by mom. I guess I’m not to mad at her for dragging me to the shows.
Have a catriffic day. Get lots of mom and dad time.

Hi Laci
Day 12
Thank you for all your support. I really appreciate you taking time to press my votey button.
Ok, sometimes I do get real nervous at the show but mom has some of the Feliway calming spray and uses it in my cage before I go back in.
I have a nice little tote that carries my brushes, nail clippers. These are my own clippers (mom bought a new one for the house so I don’t have to share and in case I need to be clipped at the show). I even have some fans in case I get hot. At the show in San Diego, my second show the air conditioning broke and it was so hot. It was August in San Diego one of our hottest months. Mom went out after the show and bought some little battery operated fans and keeps them in my to go crate. She won’t let me get hot again. The air conditioning was fine the second day but we aren’t going to chance it.
I have some baby washcloths. Mom wipes me down after being handled so there isn’t any human sweat on my fur. My little tote can hang from the side of my cage. Some of the humans bought them from a vendor. They have little folding cages. Some kitties bring their own cages. They fold down and not wire. They go to a lot of shows. Mom said maybe someday I can get one but we need to go to more shows. I like my curtains so I think we can just stick with the wire cages that are provided.
Mom brings my kitty wipes too in case of an accident and I need to be washed up before being judged. I need to be dry too so I guess the fans come in handy. One show a kitty had an accident on the way to the show and the owner forgot her hair dryer. Mom lent her a fan and it sure work. That kitty was a purebred.
Enjoy lots of mom and dad time. Have a catriffic day.

Hi Laci
Day 11
Thank you for all your support and coming by and hitting my votey button. I know you are all busy and I appreciate the time you take to come by my page.
At the cat shows litter is provided. I didn’t care for some of the litter so mom brings our litter. Some humans bring their own litter for their furbaby. Food samples are available at the show, or supplies may be available from one of the many vendors at the show.
Many people bring a small ice chest in which to keep open cans of food fresh. Their special treats is always nice to bring with you. A favorite pillow bed, favorite toy, or anything else to make your kitty feel more at home is nice to bring and set up in the benching cage.
You need to arrive at the show at least one hour before the show starts. You will need to set up the benching cage after you sign in and get your booklet and find out where you are benched. We arrive at least 1 ½ hours early for good parking and get set up. That way I can relax before the show starts.
If it’s a two day show, we don’t take down our things from the cage. We can come a little later because our benching cage is already set up. It makes it nice just to come and get in my cage. I really love my cage, all my things are in there. Then I get a mew toy from one of the vendors. Hehe Sometimes it’s nice to be shown.
Have a catriffic day. Enjoy lots of mom and dad time.

HI Laci
Day 10
Thank you for all your support. I really appreciate you hitting my votey button every day. It makes me so happy to see all you come by and meow to me.
I had told you of the two upcoming shows on the schedule so fair for the 2012-2013 season. Now the only shows scheduled for the 2013-2014 season are. Oct 5 Palm Springs and Dec 28-29 in Las Vegas Riviera Hotel. I know someday I’ll go to Las Vegas. I wonder if I’m old enough to gamble. Kitty needs more toys. MOL Shows are still being scheduled so that is why mom always tries to stay on top of it. OK sometimes she misses a show. Silly mommy.
In case you were wondering, the cage size is usually 36 inches wide, 24 inches deep and 27 inches high. One cat or two kittens are allowed per cage. Some shows have a “double cages” which are partitioned into two single cages. In this arrangement a single cage is 26 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 22 inches high. A double cage (extra charge) is 54 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 22 inches high. No more than one cat or two kittens may be benched in the same cage.
The cage covers must cover two sides and back. It is recommended that the top and bottom is covered as well.
The covering for the cage is to prevent your cat from seeing its neighbors. People who show regularly have spectacular curtains and decorations for their cages. I have a towel for my bottom of the cage but sometimes I just use an extra curtain to make my area extra fancy. MOL
Have a catriffic day. Enjoy lots of mom and dad time.

HI Laci & Family
Day 9
Thank you for all your support and pushing my votey button. I am so happy so many kitties stop by my page. You are the best.
My next kitty show was Hemet Feline Fanciers presents Cats 2012 Sept 8 6 rings San Jacinto , Ca. A 2 1/2 hour drive one way. I was up against 21 kitties. I won 2 rosettes at the show in my first and fourth ring. My first ring it was the same judge that game me a ribbon at the Hemet show last year 2011. Mom and I were so happy. Now I have 4 ribbons/rosettes. WOW I’m on my way that’s five shows down.
I do better in the smaller shows. They aren’t as loud and not as big of crowds coming by to look at you in your benching cage and at the judge’s ring. If you have been in a kitty show, you know what I mean. So many people and noise. I hope some of you are interested in trying a show. It is fun and to have so many people telling you how pretty you are. I know how pretty I am but it’s nice to hear from someone other than mom. Some even ask to pet me. It’s up to your mom/dad if you want that. Sometimes we are getting ready to go to a ring so that would be a no. We do have the antibacterial hand stuff in case someone wants to pet us. Mom likes to keep me safe. Everyone that shows all the time has the stuff with them by the cages.
I hope you are enjoying some behind the scenes of the cat shows and how I did at some of mine. It is fun even if I’m nervous. Mom does take me to stores sometimes before a show or just because so I can get use to the noise. It is something some of the mom’s and dad’s suggest that have been doing the shows for a while. I guess it helps.
Have a catriffic day and enjoy lots of mom and dad time.

Hi Laci
Day 8
Thank you for all your support and pushing my votey button. You are the best.
Ok, my fourth show was you guessed it, back in Del Mar San Diego Cat Fanciers presents The Food and Water Bowl XX Jan 28 & 29, 2012 8 rings 45 minutes away. I really don’t like this show at all. The hall has a big echo. It’s a show hall the fair uses so it’s basically a big warehouse that humans sell things at the fair. When you have lots of humans and the speakers it’s one big YUCK for me. I know other kitties don’t like it that loud either. I was up against 51 kitties. Mom keeps all the flyers and booklets from the shows. I guess it’s for me to remember my show days. I just soon forget some of them. Hehe

I didn’t get any rosettes again. I just don’t do well with the big shows. I do let all the judges hold me and check me out. I don’t like to play with their toys. Most kitties don’t but some do. If the judges wanted me to play then they should bring the toys I like. MOL
This year so far there are shows up in Ontario, Ca March 16 scheduled and then April 27 & 28 in Palm Springs. We want to do a Palm Springs show but we are going to wait until after my catpaign. There are always shows in Palm Springs. Palm Springs has 2 one day shows with 6 rings each day. You can do one or both shows. We would most likely just do the one day show then come home that night. That’s another 2 ½ to 3 hour drive one way. That a long time in the car with mom. I don’t mind riding in a car, I just nap or look at mom.
I don’t know if I told you but a ring is a judge. So if I have 8 rings that means I see 8 judges. Each judge holds me and looks at me. That’s a lot of strangers touching me. OK some of the judges I have seen before but still I don’t see them on a daily basis. Mom checks the website a couple times a month to see the schedule. It changes as the shows get booked.
I hope you are enjoying the catpaign and getting lots of information. I hope it’s not information overload.
Enjoy your day and get lots of mom and dad time.
Kitty kisses

Hi Laci & Family
Day 7
Thank you for your support and your votey. I appreciate you coming by every day to visit me. I hope you are enjoying my catpaign and a look into cat shows.
It is fun and scary at the same time at the shows. People are coming by your benching cage looking at you and asking if they can take your picture. I think I should get a can of fancy feast mornings if they want my picture but does mom say that NOOOOO she just says yes. It’s not her picture they are taking. I know you all agree with me. I’m the Star.
You mostly see the same humans and kitties. Sometimes there are newbies and we help them with their cage set up and how it works. They bench a newbie with some of the kitties that have done shows for a while. I know not every kitty is cut out to be a show kitty. Mom knew I was the one. I will run to the door if I hear someone knocking. I just need to know who it is. I played with her nieces and nephews. Mom says I just have it. I don’t know what it is and I just might not want to have it. If Callie was here I know she would know what it is and would let us all know.
You can look under Cat Fancy Association or CFA and The International Cat Association or TICA to find shows in your area/region. You can find the information on showing and what you will need. I like getting a mew toy. Mommy and me time is the best. I don’t have to share mommy with my sisters. Of course they are alone while we are gone. Hehe
If you have been in a show, I would love to hear about it. I know some of you kitties have even won some rosettes. Let me know what category you show in too.
Have a catriffic day. Enjoy mom and dad time.

~Queen Trixie's Tantalizing Animal Tales~April 4th
Good morning from the imperial cabin in the woods of Northern Indiana! It’s still a very chilly morning with temps below freezing but it’s supposed to be warming up nicely later with highs topping out in the mid to upper 50s. That means we can put away the winter woolies & just wear a jacket or sweatshirt if you’d like to go exploring today…woohoo! Just what is there to explore around here? LOTS!! We don’t have just corn & bean fields…MOL! We take pride in our heritage, and we cherish our Midwest traditions, our Hoosier hospitality and our hard-working Heartland values. You’ll cherish them too as you wander down quaint downtowns that retain the charm of a simpler time. You’ll be inspired by the faith that led to the founding of Notre Dame in 1842 & the simple courage that brought the first Amish settlers in 1844. We also take pride in the dedication of the largest remaining mounted cavalry unit in the United States, the ingenuity that led Orville Redenbacher (born in Brazil, IN) to launch his first gourmet popcorn product in 1971, the creativity of the Garfield creator Jim Davis (born in Marion, IN) & the determination of the farmers that have worked this land for generations. You’ll discover a myriad of activities and delightful secrets throughout the seven counties found in northern Indiana (http://www.northernindianagetaways.com) so take some time to explore the wonders & you’ll understand why I’ve chosen a cabin as my royal abode instead of a damp, cold castle…MOL!

Now that I’ve peaked your curiosity (MOL) I’m going to spin you all the way back to California to meow about a very special & heroic bird that was owned by SABRINA’s #11187 mom a long time ago, (B.C. before cats)! OBIE was just a common yellow parakeet but he was very special and spoke 3 languages...English, Italian and Spanish. Obie lived in a cage in the living room but he liked to stand on top of the cage, on mom’s shoulder, or flew around during the time he was out every day…but never leaving the room. One day, his mom reached into the top cupboard to pull out a crock pot and lost her grip and it came crashing down on her head. She’d never in my life experienced this sensation & truly saw stars and felt herself losing consciousness. All of sudden, Obie flew into the room and landed on her shoulder and started chirping "pretty bird", "Ciao Bella", "Que Paso" into her ear as she gripped the countertop. (Obie never had been in the kitchen before and it was a completely separate room as the living room) She later went to the emergency room & found out she had a concussion. She believes Obie & his act of heroism prevented her from being knocked out cold that day.
I proclaim & dedicate the royal calico crest for gallantry today to sweet OBIE the parakeet & special thanks to Sabrina for sharing her story! Have a pawsome day dear furiends & remember to pounce by with vote support for COTM candidate SPUNKY #161265!

Good Morning dear furiends! Thank you for stopping by with your sweet catgrats yesterday as I was officially pictured as the COTM queen! I’m going to step aside for just a moment to let yesterday’s birthday girl (Patches) meow while I warm up by the fire since it’s a very chilly day in the woods! If you plan on hiking, fishing, or sightseeing today please dress warmly because we’re only supposed to reach the mid 40’s…but we do have lots of sunshine to help warm your fur. Now I’ll let big sis meow….

~Thankful purrs from Patches~
I want to thank all of you for the lovely gifts, sweet hugs & kisses..& most of all the visits you made on my birthday yesterday. It’s always great to see so many of you come by on special days because it makes it a lot more special & also make me purr with sincere happiness. Thank you so much for sharing my birthday with me dear furiends but now I’d better get back to the kitchen so her royal highness can have her daily catnip tarts or she’ll throw a hissing fit…MOL! Have a purrfect day dear furiends!
Big paw hugs,
Patches

Hmmm…I think my big sis just got a quick jab in at my demanding catitude along with thank you meows...MOL! Today I’m bringing you a heroic story that is on the freekibble site after you answer the cat trivia. No pic today though since it wouldn’t let me copy it.
~SOLDIER AND CAT SAVE EACH OTHER IN AFGHANISTAN~
Stationed in an Army base in southern Afghanistan, Sgt. Knott noticed one day that a feral cat who roamed around the base was limping and bleeding heavily. He lured the cat into his office with a piece of steak and spent the next seven months caring for the cat he named Koshka. The two bonded quickly. Sgt. Knott nursed Koshka back to health, while Koshka comforted Sgt. Knott during the certain danger and emotional toll of war. When it was time for Sgt. Knott to return to the states, he wouldn’t leave Koshka behind. He explained to KPTV how he worked with a local Afghan interpreter who agreed to, in an extremely risky transport, take Koshka to Kabul. Weeks later Sgt. Knott learned that the cat (and his Afghan chaperone) made it safely across “God knows how many Taliban check points,” to Kabul, where Koshka boarded a plane bound for the states. The $3,000 Sgt. Knott’s family forked over to fly the cat home was worth every penny, they said. While Sgt. Knott is currently stationed in Washington state, Koshka is now safe at home with Sgt. Knott’s parents until the pair can be together again. The Oregon Humane Society recently honored Sgt. Knott and Koshka with a 2013 Diamond Collar Hero award for their incredible story of friendship.

Thank you for your sweet & generous support dear furiends & don’t forget to pounce over to vote daily for beautiful SPUNKY #161265 so she can wear the crown next month! Have a purrfect day!

Thank you for pouncing by to paw me a vote yesterday & HAPPY EASTER!!!!
WOW…that was a pawsome time at the San Diego Zoo yesterday & Anthony’s Star of the Sea restaurant was a delightful & beautiful ending to the day’s activities! Thanks to our beautiful CA hostess Sabrina we also got to meet COTM hopeful SPUNKY #161265 & her sisters too because they also live in the area! Please give her the same outstanding support you’ve shown me this month on her quest for the May crown!
Well kitties, how did you enjoy the Purring Parrot avian & feline resort? Did you explore them thoroughly this morning when you woke up? If you didn’t then you’d better look again because the Easter bunny was busy during the night & hid eggs with kitty treasure inside all around…MOL! I found three & Fluffers found 2 so we’re enjoying the fresh catnip, tuna treats, & tiny rabbit cookies we found inside of ours while we hunt for more!
(http://www.thepurringparrot.com) Didn’t you just love how they could connect our themed suites with kitty walk through areas so we could see each other whenever we wanted? (Check out all their suites at their website to be truly amazed!) And the complimentary tissue paper amenity…truly the most pawtastic thing I’ve ever seen during any of our hotel stays this month! Oh…I do ask that some of you please help clean up the confetti we created though so we don’t leave them with a bad impression of CC kitties…MOL! Ahhh…I hate to leave the luxury of this hotel with its designer furnishings designer litter boxes, mats, food bowls, “Drinkwell” pet fountains, cat lounging trees, kitty beds, simple toys, cat nip/grass for nibbles, housekeeping twice daily, and a kitty turndown service. This is what I call royal treatment of guests! The best part though had to be that each room had its own "mouse on a string" butler, which each kitty could treat as kitty pleases. Okay…it is pawsitively official…I feel completely spoiled…MOL! Unfortunately it’s time to pack our bags & head to the airport for our flight home so I can get ready for the coronation this afternoon at 3pm ET.
I know that many of you have other obligations to fulfill on this blessed Easter holiday so can’t attend but I know I’ll feel your spirits there with me as Queen Josie Mae #193862 places the crown on my nervous brow. After I post my portion of the ceremony I too must depart the festivities so mom can continue cooking their Easter dinner, plus I’ll be anxiously waiting for the midnight hour to strike to make sure I’m ‘official’. Thank you SO much for coming by each day with your sweet comments & special thanks for those noteworthy kitties that also helped add a little more zest to some of my daily blogs…MOL! Have a beautiful & blessed Easter dear furiends for it’s time to look to new beginnings & rebirth & this calico cyclone will do her best to help it along next month!

We’ll be met at our destination by my dear friend Sabrina so she can show us around her city & take us to an urban paradise I know we’ll love! We’re heading toward the Golden State sweet kitties…straight to southern California & the famous SAN DIEGO ZOO!” We’ll spend the day monkeying around in the tropical oasis as we visit amazing habitats for animals such as gorillas, tigers, sun bears, flamingos, mandrills, polar bears, birds of paradise, giant tortoises, leopards… and more! We can take a Panda Trek to visit the giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat, go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California & see a herd of Asian elephants. We can also enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or an aerial view from Skyfari, plus we can dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert’s Restaurant & see animals up close in the Children's Zoo. It will be great to discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, & keeper presentations! A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience. Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years & is open 365 days a year. Located adjacent to downtown San Diego in Balboa Park, the Zoo is 100 acres in size and is home to more than 4,000 animals representing more than 800 species from around the world. The Zoo will be a unique walking experience that exhibits animals in the most natural way possible, adding shows & animal presentations throughout the day for additional enjoyment. The San Diego Zoo also offers a variety of education programs & tons of other fun things! We’ll be arriving when it opens & will stay until it closes at 7pmPT! After we leave Sabrina has recommended Anthony’s Star of the Sea for our dining pleasure. It’s perched over the sparkling waters of San Diego Bay & should have that soothing sleepy atmosphere we’ll need so we can make it back home to get ready for the coronation ceremony at 3pmET (noon PT) tomorrow. Buckle back up kitties because we’re landing. We’ll take our bags to the Purring Parrot Avian & Feline Resort before we head to the zoo so I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow before the coronation, but do have space to meow…THANK YOU FOR ACCOMPANYING ME ON MY FINAL CATPAIGN ZOO TRIP DEAR FURIENDS & FOR THE FANTASTIC VOTE SUPPORT!

Excited purrs,

~Trixie's Tantalizing Animal Tales~ March 29th
I’m on the final lap of my catpaign sweet kitty furiends yet my cyclonic spins are still going strong thanks to your loving & generous support! Thank you for pouncing by with your comments on the critically endangered animals I presented yesterday plus the votes you pawed my way!! Today I’ll wrap up the top 5 list of these beautiful creatures that inhabit our planet that could use help to save their species & don’t forget that you can see their pics in my gallery!
~JAVAN RHINOS~
Javan rhinos were killed by trophy hunters during colonial times. They were also killed as agricultural pests and for their horn, a highly prized commodity in traditional Asian medicine. Indonesia is home to the only population of Javan rhinos left on the planet. Only about 40 of these rhinos exist there, making the Javan rhino one of the rarest mammals in the world. The population in Ujung Kulon National Park represents the only hope for the survival of a species that is on the brink of extinction. Until the late 19th century and early 20th century, Javan rhinos existed from northeast India and the Sunderbans , throughout mainland Southeast Asia, and on the island of Sumatra. If we lose the population in Java, the entire species will disappear.
~HAWKSBILL TURTLE~
Hawksbills are named for their narrow, pointed beak. They also have a distinctive pattern of overlapping scales on their shells that form a serrated-look on the edges. These colored and patterned shells make them highly-valuable and commonly sold as "tortoiseshell" in markets. Hawksbills help maintain the health of coral reefs. As they remove prey such as sponges from the reef's surface, they provide better access for reef fish to feed. Like other marine turtles, hawksbills are threatened by the loss of nesting and feeding habitats, excessive egg-collection, fishery-related mortality, pollution, and coastal development. However, they are most threatened by illegal wildlife trade.
~VAQUITA~
Vaquitas are most often found close to shore in the Gulf's shallow waters, although they quickly swim away if a boat approaches. Rare and elusive, this little porpoise wasn't discovered until 1958 & little is actually known about them. Vaquitas have natural predators such as sharks, but their main threat is from the fishing industry. They often die after being caught in gillnets, a problem known as bycatch. The Vaquita is the most endangered cetacean in the world with fewer than 200 left & the species may go extinct without further protective measures.
Okay kitties…that’s a wrap on all of my animal series for my catpaign. Now that I’m finished I want all of you to head home & pack an overnight bag because we’ll be flying out bright & early tomorrow morning for our next zoo tour & will be staying overnight again! Thank you for helping me on my quest for the April crown dear furiends! Have a pawtastic Friday & I’ll see you in the morning!

Soft purrs & a chicken strip filled vote,

~Shout-out voting for MANCHESTER #76627 TODAY~
WOW…this month has flown by faster than I’d ever imagined! Thank you dear furiends for supporting me by pouncing by with your votes & wonderful comments each day! Queen Josie Mae & I have decided that we’ll have the coronation at 3pmET (noon PT) on Easter Sunday, which should fall in between most church services & also won’t interfere with our queen’s secretary’s work schedule the following day. Please plan to attend this gala event but please dress casual because we’ll be having the ceremony outside since we’re both country girls!
Okay sweet kitties…Today & tomorrow I’ll be meowing to you about the 5 most critically endangered species of animals on earth to wrap up my catpaign & you can see their pics in my gallery. These creatures can use all the help they can get to preserve their way of life so they can continue to grace our planet with their presence. Please note that the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) has sponsored many animals in over 100 countries for nearly half a century & gladly accepts donations for specific species if you want to help (worldwildlife.org). WWF fights to secure a future for animals on the planet we all share but their work is far from done, and WWF constantly strives to protect the species we all care about.
~LEATHERBACK TURTLE~
Leatherback turtles are named for their shell, which is leather-like rather than hard like other turtles. They are the largest marine turtle species and also one of the most migratory, crossing both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Although their distribution is wide, numbers of leatherback turtles have seriously declined during the last century as a result of intense egg collection and fisheries bycatch. Though the species has survived for over 100 million years, these marine turtles are now on the brink of extinction because many of their offspring won't be able to reach maturity due to numerous threats including fishing practices and pollution.
~MAGELLANIC PENGUIN~
Penguins are a family of 17 to 19 species of birds that live primarily in the Southern Hemisphere. They include the tiny blue penguins of Australia and New Zealand, the majestic emperor penguins of Antarctica and king penguins found on many sub- Antarctic islands, the endangered African penguin and the Galápagos penguin—the only penguin to be found north of the equator. Climate change is again the reason why this species is threatened to disappear. The migration of fish caused by warming currents makes it harder for them to find food and could result in the extinction of the Magellanic penguin. The Antarctic Peninsula, where half of the world’s emperor penguins and 70% of the Adelie penguins can be found, is heating up faster than the global average and melting the sea ice that the penguins depend on for places to breed and access to food.
Thank you for your loving support of my COTM catpaign dear friends!!

~Visit & vote for OLLIE #211317 today as he celebrates his adopty day!~
Happy hump day everyone & thank you for your visits, comments & votes you pawed my way yesterday! Fasten your seat belts kitties (MOL) because there will be a strategic bump & hairpin turn in the campaign trail today as I navigate away from the lane of recently discovered species into the realm of the recently extinct, which will then carry me into the courtyard of some of the most endangered animals on our planet starting tomorrow to wind things up before our final campaign zoo trip this weekend! Everybody buckled in? Okay then…let’s get rolling!
Every day, a few plants and animals go extinct! The time has come to think about this even more as humans & climate changes continue to destroy the concept & natural flow of nature’s food chain. The creatures I’ve featured today all went extinct since the year 2000 so are only a sample of what can, or has, happened when their habitats are changed, food sources disrupted & ‘alien’ animals enter their once tranquil territories. You can see their pics in my gallery!
~MADEIRAN LARGE WHITE BUTTERFLY~ (extinct: 2007) Once upon a time, this magnificent white butterfly flew in the humid subtropical forests of Portugal's Madeira Islands. The gorgeous butterflies had a very limited distribution, as they lived in a very rare type of forest. Researchers believe that pollution from agricultural fertilizers and deforestation could be the reasons for their extinction.
~SPIX'S MACAW~ (extinct: 2004) The spix’s macaw, the world’s rarest parrot, disappeared from the wild recently. Also known as the little blue macaws, it was the only member of the parrot genus Cyanopsitta. This magnificent bird, which came in various shades of blue, was endemic to the state of Bahia, Brazil and the Caraibeira Riparian Woodland. Though some of them are still participating in captivity breeding program, they have been declared extinct in the wild.
~PO'O-ULI ~ (extinct: 2004) The po'o-uli, or honeycreeper, was endemic to Maui, Hawaii. Predators, a decline in food sources and habitat loss are all thought to have been responsible for the beautiful bird‘s demise. By 1997, only three individuals were known to exist. Later, in 2004, the last known male bird also died in captivity.
~PYRENEAN IBEX~ (extinct: 2000) In 1980, about 30 Pyrenean ibex were reported to exist. With the death of their last family member in 2000, they were declared extinct. But, this was not the end. Scientists worked hard and brought them back into existence through cloning. Sadly, the cloned ibex also died due to lung failure. Native to the Pyrenees in France and Spain, no sightings of the ibex have been reported in recent years.

Thank you for your support of my COTM campaign dear furiends & I hope I didn’t depress you too much today. Giving each one of you a soft purr of thanks for enduring my twists & turns (MOL) along with a catnip muffin to re-energize you!

Loving hugs,
Trixie

Thank you for your visits & votes yesterday sweet furiends! I’m sorry our departure from Austria was slightly delayed but at least the questioning of Fluffinella, Mallow, & yours truly was fairly short once the Austrians got their cherished bell back. How did it get to the hotel in the first place? Well, our ornery friend Mallow is the only one that can truly answer that question but she’s been put in time out by her brother K Mike & won’t be available for questioning until he lets her out…MOL!
Okay now it’s time for that twist in my catpaign I promised you on the plane yesterday. Most of us share a fascination with the unknown. Thanks to this, as well as tremendous advances in technology, most of our planet has been quite thoroughly examined but some areas remain which are home to creatures that science has yet to encounter. Recently discovered animals number in the thousands but since I don’t have time for that I’ll be meowing about just a few that caught my interest & will include pictures too!
~GOLIATH BIRD EATING SPIDER~ I’ve opted to put this monstrous creature in for one very simple reason: it terrifies me!! The species was officially discovered in 2006 during an expedition to Guyana. It is a burrowing spider, feeding primarily on invertebrates, though it has also been observed eating small mammals, lizards, and venomous snakes (surprise surprise). Fully grown specimens can reach a horrific weight of around six ounces. Thankfully for us – and for any other creatures too large for the spider to eat – the goliath bird eater is a species of tarantula, and has relatively weak venom, which causes mild swelling and pain for a few hours. But the thing that poses the biggest threat to humans is the goliath’s ability to expel hairs from its body. These tiny, nearly invisible hairs float through the air, and have an awful tendency to stick in the eyes. EEEEK…can I open my eyes yet? (Shivers) That critter sends cold chills up my spine & makes me poofy! I think we need a cute animal to counteract that one…MOL!
~WALTER’S DUIKER~ Walter’s Duiker is a fascinating little creature, officially discovered in 2010 in the Dahomey Gap, West Africa. The species made its first foray into the world of science in 1968, when Walter Verheyen retrieved a specimen in Togo. This species of duiker is native to Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. One of the most interesting characteristics about the species is its small stature, measuring an average of only forty centimeters (sixteen inches) in height and typically weighing four to six kilograms. In addition to its small height, the duiker has hind legs which are longer than their counterparts up front. This is particularly interesting given that the duiker is not a grazing animal, and typically feeds on berries and other similar items of nourishment, which grow on plants.
Thank you for your generous & loving support of my COTM catpaign dear furiends! Have a magnificent Monday & I’ll see you again in the morning! ~Trixie~
