It’s Mike the Headless Chicken Day!

Yes, you heard me right! Let’s head off to Fruita, Colorado for the Mike the Headless Chicken Festival

This is absolutely for real! The story starts on September 10, 1945 when Fruita, Colorado, farmer Lloyd Olsen chose a chicken for his evening meal. Mr. Olsen cut off the bird’s head, but Mike just shook it off and continued trying to peck for food. He lived for 18 months and went on a national tour as “The Headless Wonder Chicken”. I know we can all relate to Mike’s example that you can live a normal life, even after you have lost your mind.

Can this event possibly be missed? There’s a 5k Run, Bike Poker Ride, Disc Golf Tournament, and eating contests, along with live music and food. I’m gonna buy a Mike the Headless Chicken T-Shirt and wear it, just to bug my brother! -- Mallow

How are you doing Girlfriend? It's your Friend and Partner-In-Crime, Marcus. I love your beautiful picture above. You're so beautiful anyway but you must know that by now. Koda talked to Sparkles so I thought I would talk to you also. It's been a while since we chatted. I have been to the Vet's for my yearly check up and I'm doing very well. I weigh 13 lbs. and my Vet told my Mommy that's okay BUT no more weight gain LOL. The other big baby, Koda has to go to the Vet's yet. He hates going there LOL. So how do you like your new beautiful cabin? See any interesting critters out there? Mommy bought this toy called Cat Dancer and we love it. It's only a long pc. of stiff wire with a pc. of cardboard on the end that Mommy holds and about 4 or 5 pcs. on the one that we hit and try to get but we just love going after it. She also bought a toy on a wand with a string and feathers which we like also. But she has to hide them from me cause I tend to chew on them and sometimes the sticks go down my throat. I know I'm not too bright sometimes LOL. Well, I hope all is well on your end. Stop by sometime cause I miss hearing from you. Here's a vote for you cutie. Bye now.

wow we are finally getting to blog some, momma was so busy with month end at work with over 20 car deals and is still pretty covered up.
momma has her spots tilled for planting her veggies and stuff, but our weather is still a bit unsettled for her to plant yet, is to be in the 70's for weekend, but have day of rain and 40's on the way yet and another in the 50's so she will wait a couple weeks more.
josiemae and her monty are relaxing on pinto island for a few days to spend some alone time and rest time for her and him also.
not been doing much else, just hunting and playing and sleeping. nothing exciting has happened. gma went for her lab work today and gpa is bout the same, but still at home at least.

Hope that's not your new litter box up there! Mike has one that's just about as big around as that, and I have one that's pretty deep. It had a top on it when I lived at Becky's but now that I'm back with Mike & Mallow I like to be able to see what's around me when I'm using the facilities.

Wow, your can of food attacked you? That IS pretty scary, so it's a good thing Mom and the Shed Monster were there to rescue you. Yes, that thing does get a lot of fur, doesn't it? Almost too much after a while, Mom had to take a rest for a few days with me, but now it's shedding season and we get our daily brushing again, Mike & I at night and Mallow first thing in the morning. If Mom forgets I jump on the bed and look at the shelf where the Monster lives. Glad you joined the fan club, too. -- Evie

Thank you so much for stopping by to visit me on my Adopti-Day and COTD Celebration. Thank you for your furiendship and kind words. We all know how special our furever family's are.

On my Adopti-Day, something quite unusual happened! One of the outside kitties that my Mama has been feeding for 10 months was in our heated cathouse in the garage with a one week old calico kitten. The funny thing was, Mama thought the Mother cat, Peek-A-Boo, was a boy kitty. She never got close enough for my Mama to tell otherwise. :) She named her Peek-A Boo because she always peeked around the corner at Mama. She noticed Peek-A-Boo suddenly put on a lot of weight and she suspected then that Peek-A-Boo was a girl cat instead of a boy. (no joke)! Then about a week later, Peek-A-Boo was skinny again. Mama figured that her kittens may have died. When Mama saw her, she was shocked to see Peek-A-Boo nursing a tiny baby kitten. Our Mama has never bottle fed a kitten, so she hopes Peek-A-Boo will be a good Mom and keep her baby safe in our garage till she gets a little older. I guess Mama's got her work cut out for her now...hee,hee.

Thanks for the compliment. I think you are a gorgeous kitty as well. yeah, I even have *tufties* on my ears..one of the things on a MC kitty. None of my fursibs have them on their ears.

Mom is still sick and feels terrible. She has to take medicine..she said it doesn't taste awful, so that is a good thing.

These HRR are the best. I was supposed to lead next week but because mom is so sick, I get another week to regroup{mom does}, I will take the lead Sunday after easter...works fine with us. Talley is leading us next week.

Mom is getting ready to take us over to MHl in a few minutes. My team lost anyway...BOO!!! It's better to win, isn't that right???

we got to 53* today and the sun was shining brightly, so mom let us go outside and she even went out and cleaned the yard, didn't stay out too long as she started to feel bad, so momm went in, but we all got to stay out...it is supposed to be this nice all weekend.

Glad you're liking the Shed Monster. The first time Mom used it on Evie she got a pile of fur half as big as Evie! Then the next day she got another one. There's a picture in her gallery, it just kept coming and coming!

Thanks for stopping by. It's your Buddy, Marcus. Yeah, I'm feeling better also but I still have to go to the Vet's just for my yearly shot and check up. But I don't mind, KODA does LOL. He's such a big Baby. Yeah, I'm back to my old self and running up and down the steps, Mom says like a herd of cattle, whatever they are. Oh don't you worry none I'm still chasing Koda, that's so much fun but if he cries like the Baby he is or makes a certain sound, Mom comes running with the newspaper. But now I just lay down and take my punishment just like the brave Cat I am, I am LOL. So are you use to your new Log Cabin Home? Mommy thinks it's just beautiful. Mommy says she understands about the Emergency Vet's - she said she's been there done that. See before I came into the picture, Mommy's Best Friend (she lives with her and her Husband) bought her a Chocolate Point just like me, a month or so after her Kokomo died. Well, after she had him for a month he got really sick (throwing up & the other way) took him to the Vets, they gave him med's and it didn't help back to the Vets, then straight to the Emergency one for more tests. Her Vet told her the Kitten had an inflamed intestines? I'm not going into all the details but after going back & forth (spent $2,500 plus), several times Mommy said NO MORE especially after he started throwing up blood and there was a chance he had cancer. Of course, Mommy's Friend was back & forth on the phone to the Breeder who was very upset and when she heard cancer (in the beginning) she said to have him put down but they wanted to try to help him. She had NEVER EVER had a sick Kitten before and as long as she was shown in writing that Meko was put down, she would replace him. Needless to say, Mommy was devastated especially after having her Kokomo put down but he was 15 yrs. old and that was hard enough. Now she had to put down a 4 month old Baby. She was so upset she didn't even want another Kitten but Koda was very upset and crying and even howling. See he was never without another Cat and he was missing a Friend especially Kokomo. So that's where I came in. The Breeder, Rebecca said she was really keeping me for Breeding so she knew for sure I was as healthy as an Ox. Of course, I had to turn out bad & Mommy said IF I wasn't so damn cute, I'ld be put up for adoption, yeah right like Mommy could part with me NOT!

So it's your Sister's Birthday I'll have to tell Koda and I'll wish her a Happy Birthday also and a vote.

Hope your Mom starts feeling better. Mom says the same thing that once Spring gets here and stays here, we should all start to feel much better. Oh and I'm so glad that you feel better too.

Thank you, it's my Adoptive day Anniversary. today mom has special plans for me. I get a car ride when dad n mom are done with the car. They have to have the car looked at. There going to take me to the fountain in the park. It's nor really very far, but mom thinks that it might be to far for me to walk. It's about 4 blocks. And she going to let he have a potato chip. I just love those chips. Mom can't open a bag with out me trying to steal one. And I get to play with her iPad. She has games on there for me. I might even get to paint again. I hope you have a great day.

Yup, we still have our power! I sure am happy about that. We kept it all through the nor'easter too! We got about 8 inches of snow. Originally Aunt Mary thought it was 5 or 6 inches, but when she went out to shovel, she recalculated. It has been sunny and in the 60s and 50s this past week, so all of the snow is gone. It left behind lots of fallen branches though, because it was such a heavy snow. We lost some branches on two of our lilac trees, but compared to many, we did good!

I am glad you didn't get the snow by you. It really is way too early in the season for that.

Well, hello Young Dasher,
I appreciated getting a mew from you with all of the words spelled correctly. I find that the younger mice and cats do not put enough attention into their spelling and punctuation. You did very micely.
Yes, ever since summer when I dark green dress was too large and warm for me, GT-t took it off and threw it somewhere. Actually I have not been buck nekked as in that profile photo. mom has taken a lovely new one, but she does not always remember what she's supposed to do.
Also, she has to alert her nephew, mr. Nibbles, and Toby to pay attention when the lovely profile with me wearing my long and splendid scarf. The cc police keep track and if there is not a cat in the profile photo they take it off. That happened to my first (and better looking) profile. Also, happened to The Kitty Poet's page until they figured out that Poets can have flowers.
perhaps mom will get her act together and stop changing our cats' photo so often.
Oh well, I'm merely an old mousie and Great Aunt to young Nibbles...

Happy day to you! Thank you for your support during my campaign. It truly means so very, very much to me. A lot of you have noticed and asked about my Superman picture. Queen Lily and her mom did that handsome picture for me. Thank you both!!!

I woke up totally starving and my bellybutton is touching my spine about now, so today’s sidekicks are brought to you by the lovely folks at Hershey’s. I’m bringing you Reese’s Peanut Butter cups!

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are a brand of candy made of peanut butter, coated in chocolate. They were created in 1928 by H.B. Reese, who was a dairy farmer and a shipping foreman in the Hershey Company. This loveable little candy has changed size, shapes, and is even available in different flavors of chocolate. My purrsonal favorite is the holiday shapes. I love the pumpkins, trees and hearts. Hello, hello!!! Thanks to everyone who stops by to visit. I do enjoy hearing from you all, and I SO appreciate your support. Are you all having fun? I am! Thanks for hanging in here with me. I was inspired by today’s sidekicks by the local news. Yes, the news. It happens from time to time that I do watch it, and not nap through it. They showed the big unveiling of a statue of the super hero who was created right here in Ohio. And that would be none other than Superman!

Today, I will talk about Superman (AKA Clark Kent) and his sidekick, the lovely Lois Lane, who he happens to be in love with. I’m getting the vibe the feeling is mutual.
Superman is a fictional comic book character who was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in Cleveland, Ohio in 1932. He first appeared in comic books in 1938. Superman was born on the planet Krypton and rocket to earth by his scientist father moments before Krypton’s destruction. He was discovered By a Kansas farmer and his wife, and raised as Clark Kent. When younger he displayed superhuman abilities, which he resolved to use to benefit mankind.

Clark Kent and Lois Lane worked together at “The Daily Planet “ newspaper as reporters. Lois was a brilliant and ace reporter, yet never did see thru the disguise of Clark Kent as Superman. I could never figure that out. A pair of glasses and a different hairdo can’t possibly change you THAT much! Clark Kent turned into Superman, with superhuman powers to fight crime and protect the city. They eventually fall in love, and in the comic book world, all ends well.

Levi used to snuggle with, and even used to “nurse” on his little friend when Levi was a kitten. Mom eventually took it away, and it’s now been recycled to a toy for his mom’s grandbaby to love. Thanks Bart for sharing!!***

My Dear Furrend Dasher
Oh, thank you soooo much for the visit the other day. And mom thanks you for the prayers. She is doing much better now, thank goodness. Her body is finally healing and I am thankful for that and for the prayers and thoughts sent to her.
Looks like some mew pictures of you in the gallery. They are all very pawsome and your tail is still magnificent. My hair is growing out from the lion cut that I had this summer and it's about time. It's terrible to feel naked all the time. Blush....

Howdy and thank you for your votes. Wow,,,time sure does fly when you’re having kitty fun! Speaking of fun, hope you all enjoyed the PB S’more’s yesterday. I love how that ooey, gooey treat makes my teeth and whiskers stick together.

Yes, I love to play, only problem now is that the puppy tries to eat my toys! As far as chasing, I whack at any of my siblings if they rub me the wrong way. I'm not very tolerant, but I am also very loving as I mother all of my siblings (and then whack them when I get annoyed). I try to sneak outside once in awhile, but always get stopped! Not fair that my brother Gir gets to come and go as he pleases! Well, you keep Sparkles in her place and don't let her scare you:) Katie

Hello and thank you for your messages and votes! You’re all keeping me on my toes you know, I thank you all for your overwhelming response to my daily blogs, and welcome any comments!
Day 9 and what will it be?? Peanut butter and jelly! So, they aren’t cartoons, or comics, or TV or music groups, but I happen to love PB and J, and I think they are great sidekicks! I’ll have you know its peanut butter lovers month. By now you probably think I’ve lost my mind, or gone loopy. Maybe so. Why not PB and chocolate, like the Reese’s cup, or PB and bananas? For the obvious answer that I like PB and J the best. And not just any jelly, grape jelly. Hold onto your fur furiends…here we go!
PB and J sandwiches originated in North America in the 1900’s. Peanut butter was considered a delicacy, and served in the finest tea rooms in New York. During WW2, it became a favorite with children and soldiers. From there, popularity grew, and with different versions to the loved original form. You all hungry yet?? I have treats for all!!! We can make PB and J S’mores with mini chocolate chips and bananas. Grab a pie iron and join me around the fire.

***Today’s sidekick story comes to us from Dasher about his furbling Sparkles K #199906. Sparkles had a sweet little stuffed tiger with a bell on its tail. Notice I said HAD. Apparently, Sparkles loved it TOO much, and the little tiger is missing his bell on his tail, AND his head (just a minor problem…right?) Maybe someday his head will appear. Sparkles carries her little headless friend everywhere she goes. One never knows where it will show up! Thank you Dasher for sharing this story with us in what I’m sure is an attempt to embarrass little, sweet Sparkles. She has her profile picture with her headless furiend. Mom thought 'Dasher' the first time she laid eyes on Mouser. Well, she got the name Faith 'cause a lot of prayers went into her recovery but mom likes the name Mouser. She looks like she'd be a great mouser but we'll see. Yes, the cathouse will be disrupted once again but as long as I get my bowl to myself then I'm fine. I don't like sharing...look at my bellies, next year mom will enter me into the fair with the most bellies. All is going well here, we finally had temperatures above 50F. Tomorrow looks even better and then Caturday is gonna be the very best. 70F by Caturday! Hate that mom will be on call 'cause nothing good ever comes out of that other than going to work.

Glad that you and Sparkles are best of furr friends. I bet she enjoys your company even when she's chasing you. Our friend, Strudel, will run, run, run; she makes it sound like we have a herd of elephants at times. She's calico so that explains that. Are you helping mom and dad packing? Next year will be here before you know it. Hope that the cabin is coming along as planned. Happy Thursday.

our angel kitties are and already have been working very hard to help the hoomans on the east coast in this terrible. they have just gotten rested up from their efforts with sandy and now, today, they are once again headed there to help with this bad snow storm

we owe our angel kitties a lot so, my family is setting up a tent later this afternoon at the castle with hot tuna cocoa and tea, mouse chili, shrimp gumbo and will be giving them the comfort they will need upon their return this evening.

please come by if u can and show them ur support and bring food and warm drinks if u want

Are you all getting any of the snow??? Stay safe!

I brought you all some donuts and bagels with hot cocoa and catnip tea. I’m not above resorting to bribery to get you to listen to me. So, gather round and eat, chat, relax and today I bring you a group of sidekicks. Take a guess who they are. They go on a great adventure. They are all from totally different backgrounds. They are totally different species. Give up yet??? I’m talking about that classic movie “The Wizard of OZ’. Love that movie, love the ruby slippers! I really wonder how the heck you walk in those things, but they sure are sparkly! Ok…focus now Steve…. Sorry, I just have this thing for bling. Lost my mind for a minute there.
Ahhh yes, the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy, Toto too, the Cowardly Lion (now WHY did they have to make the lion a coward), the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow. They are all a bag of misfits and outcasts, but basically band together, pledge their loyalty to one another, and are awarded for the virtues they seek. The film version was created in 1939 (hey! I got you out of the 60’s!!!). What a wonderful show of all for one, and one for all is exhibited in this movie.
Now, as a special treat, your all invited to my place (don’t worry, Gma is away at work) and we’ll watch the Wizard of Oz movie, eat popcorn and Snocaps, Pixie Stix and M&M’s and enjoy the day. Who wants to sit next to me to cover my eyes when the spooky flying monkeys come out???
