How We Met
New Year's Eve,2010, hiking near the Smoky Mountains, kitty followed us for a mile and back to our car. The pictures show an abandoned forest kitten finding my new family. They took me home and now I'm a puffy belly happy housecat.

Mittens thank U for writing to me u r too cute. Arent we adorable!!!!yOU LOOK LIKE you are in heaven with Mom/Dad scratching your ears. I like my Mom to pet my throat. My Mom had a Mittens before Me she was 22 yrs old when she became and angel kitty.My Mom said she would never get another kitty cause it hurt so bad. 2 months later she broke down & got me. I make her laugh so hard! I still do!!!!!!!Kitty kisses on both your cheeks. Au RevoIr.

2/21/13 Made it to Thursday Day for K.Barney! +2
Have we met before?? Got mom up by 4:00AM, but she still isn't awake. Today she is remembering our Angel Rosebud, who passed 2/21/09 and was a contemporary of Angels Pasha and Agatha. Rosebud was the only cat Pasha accepted to associate with after Agatha. Come to think of it, I don't think we have told Rosebud's story, but guess that will have to wait until next week, because we do have to finish Grisha's.
Anyway, mom brought Grisha home and put him in the now famous guestroom. She had high hopes that Pasha would adjust to him, especially after adjusting so well to Agatha, but it was not to be. Mom had to keep Grisha in the guest room, except when she could close Pasha in her room and give him a bit of time to roam the house. She felt very bad and wasn't sure what to do. Going back to the Humane Society was not an option.
Well, it just so happened that mom did have a friend,Marilyn, who stayed with her frequently, while she was looking for a more permanent place to live. Mom had met Marilyn at her church. Marilyn had some learning disabilities, but was very independent and was taking classes to become a certified nursing assistant. Of course, while staying with mom, Marilyn did have to share the guestroom with Grisha, who worked his charm on her too. Whenever Marilyn was there, he was her best friend and purr therapist! Doesn't take a detective to see where this was leading! When Marilyn finally found a place to stay, Grisha went to live with her in her apartment.
We are not quite to happily ever after yet. Marilyn had asthma and after a few months it got much worse and, she was told that she really needed to give up her cat. She was heartbroken, but then another opportunity came up. With her asthma getting worse, she really was not safe living alone and couldn't return to living with mom either. There was an opening in a group home and a community called "On Our Own." Not only was Marilyn able to find a safe place to live and job opportunities, but Grisha found a new home and purpose too, although he had to live in a different house than Marilyn-- as a therapy cat! The house residents cared for him and he gave lots of purr therapy and love!
Again, we are running out of space. Grisha and Marilyn have both passed over the Bridge, but lived very productive and caring lives. Stay warm and we will come back with another story on Tuesday. Dear sweet Mittens,
I had a beautiful sweet apple face Siamese that was named Mittens too. She was 22 yrs old when she became an Angel Kitty.I miss her so but I have Kiki Chanel now she makes me happy and laugh. She was named Mittens as my favorite childhood story was the 3 little Kittens lost their mittens.She was always by my side. Now I have KiKi she is a little rascal and makes me laugh so hard. She has gotten fat like me but its hard not to give her treats when she begs like a dog. Well we are both going on Diets! i KNOW YOU R SWEET LOVING KITTY AS my Mittens was. A bouquet of flowers brightens the day!!

Supplies:
4 White Carnations
2 Plastic Black Shank Buttons - if you can find an oval shape even better
1 Plastic Yellow Shank Button
1 Sheet of White Craft Foam
Black Card Stock
Fabric Glue
Straight Pins
Tape
Green Floral Tape
Floral Wire
Red Ribbon
Place button wires into the flowers to create the face (make sure they're secure). You might need to trim the wire a little so your buttons sit flat on top of the flowers. I also recommend looking at a Hello Kitty image to get the nose and eye spacing correct.
Tie a traditional red bow and trim off tales. Attach a floral wire to bow. Cut two rounded triangles from the white foam for ears. You'll want the ears to be slightly bigger opposed to proportionate. Glue one of the ears on the back of the bow. Tape the other ear to the floral wire. The wire should be 6" in length.
Situate ears at the top of the bouquet. You will need to bend the ears back about 90 degrees. The flowers should cover part of the foam ears (this is why we made them larger). With floral tape, wrap wire and stems to secure in place.
Last are the whiskers. Cut 6 thin strips of black card stock measuring 2" in length. Pin three strips to each side of the face inside the flowers using straight pins. You now have a Hello Kitty Bouquet. For more color surround it with other flowers or wrap it in cellophane and tissue paper.

Mitchell's Gone with the Wind
Margaret Mitchell had a huge stack of paper that was gathering dust in her closet in Atlanta, Georgia. Harold Latham, an editor visiting from New York, caught wind of the epic novel, but Mitchell refused to give him the manuscript. It wasn’t ready (and might never be).
The same week, an up-and-coming writer found out about the novel and exclaimed to Mitchell: “Really I wouldn’t take you for the type who would write a successful book. You know you don’t take life seriously enough to be a novelist.” Her dander up, Mitchell handed her unfinished manuscript to Latham. He had to buy an extra suitcase to carry it home, but it was worth the money. It wasn’t long before he made an offer for Gone with the Wind.

Vote Tiger #221788 for COTD on 6/30!
Tiger #221788 is quite a unique cat; she is usually grumpy on the outside, (which seems to be the only trait she picked up from her mother!) but on the inside she can be sweet and loving. Tiger’s mother was a pregnant stray, looking for a safe place to have her kittens. She soon came upon my Aunts barn, where she gave birth to four kittens, on April 25th. Tiger was kind of the outsider in her family, her siblings were grey, black and calico, her mother was also calico, and Tiger on the other hand was a stunning bright peach. When Tiger’s mother brought in dead birds and mice, Tiger’s siblings would play with it, but Tiger wouldn’t touch it, she would rather play with us. We soon fell in love with Tiger and brought her home on Father’s Day June 17th. Tiger’s bright peach coat turned to a stunning rusty brown, and is continuing to change.
Tiger is now six years old, and never ceases to amaze us with her many sudden burst of energy. Tiger enjoys basking in the sunlight, playing in the corn field, chasing butterflies, and stalking birds. Tiger comes from a long line of tough strays and farm cats, but Tiger doesn’t seem to carry any of those any of those traits! Tiger wakes me up every morning around 7:00AM so I can give her treats; Tiger only has two treats a day because of her corn allergies. And if she isn’t doing any of the above, then she is sleeping.

Nurses: Advocating, Leading, Caring
MAY 6 National Nurses Day in the U.S. raises awareness of the important role nurses play in society & recognizes the contributions of nursing to the community.
National Nurses Week ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910). The English nurse became known as the founder of professional nursing, especially due to her pioneering work during the Crimean War (1853-1856). Due to her habit of making rounds at night, Nightingale became known as "The Lady with the Lamp".
Nursing is a calling, a way of life. Nursing is a service profession. Nurses rely on each other for the synergistic effect of teamwork in their efforts of care giving.
A nurse is there:
• In the excitement & miracle of birth or in the mystery and loss of life
• To witness humanity--its beauty, in good times & bad, without judgment
• To embrace the woes of the world, willingly & offer hope
• When a calming, quiet presence is needed
• When a silent glance can uplift a patient, family member or friend
• When the situation demands a swift foot & sharp mind

Viva Mexico! Viva diversity & multi-culturalism!
5/5/1862: Cinco de Mayo, the 5th of May, celebrates a victory by the Mexican people over the French Army in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It honors the memory and bravery of the Mexican soldiers who fought for their country.
"Battle of Puebla": Its victory marks a turning point in Mexican national pride. A small, poorly armed group of about 4,500 men were able to stop the French invasion of a well-equipped European army.
Today we enjoy the colorful festivals, lively fiestas, special dances, decorated piñatas, delicious foods, drinks (Corona, tequila, frozen margaritas), traditional Mariachi music and wear clothes of red and green, the colors of the Mexican flag with our friends from South of the Border.

This Saturday at 11:35 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, the moon will be at a distance of 221,802 miles away. At its peek time, this SUPER-moon will look 14 to 16 percent bigger, 30 percent brigher and be 17,053 miles closer to earth (average distance to moon 238,855 miles).

Maggie’s dad had sworn after losing his two senior cats, he and her mom were going to travel and not have any cats but that was before this pretty little girl was plopped into his lap and stole his heart in an instant.
She is an amazing girl who loves fetching peanuts and bringing them back to the person who tossed them. She also likes jumping into the air to fetch objects and enjoys Yoga with her mom. This sweet kitty was wandering around outside on a cold winter day. He must have known that his forever Mom had come to rescue him. He darted across a busy icy road and ran under her car. She didn’t hesitate to scoop him up and take him home. When no one came forward to claim Toby, this special kitty knew he was home.
He gets along well with all of his fursibs, and is very fond of his snuggle buddy Pig!
Toby is very agile, and uses his extraordinary balancing abilities to tiptoe through obstacles without disturbing anything! He is also very observant, and “knocks” on the computer room door when he wants in!
Toby is named for the movie character “Toby Tyler” , because as a kitten he was as mischevious as his namesake! Now with a few years behind him, Mom calls him the “Goldilocks Cat” because he is just right in every way! Oh thanks for telling the story of your pictures. You chose the right family! my brother Koshka was adopted on a New year eve, too. he was abandoned and left all locked up alone. Now he's a happy fellow, but mama had to throw away the jacket she was wearing the day she rescued him. He never stopped fearing it!
