When they finished their breakfast all of the kids
ran upstairs and brought the bags down that they had packed for the sleepover and games. Tomorrow would be a teacher planning day and they had no classes, so they would be able to take part in the games. As the weather wasn’t forecast to be great, Ana had requested that guests bring games and crafts to share and the kids had put together a whole box of scrapbooking supplies and made copies of lots of pictures they had taken at the sleepover last week. Flower had packed art supplies and would doing impromptu portraits of the kitties for them to take home as a remembrance of the fun that they had enjoyed during the games. Thomas had a check-up this morning and so Talley and Whiskers would drop the children at school and then take Thomas over to the hospital for his appointment. Pearl kissed her kids goodbye and Anabella helped them all out to the SUV. Whiskers followed close behind Thomas as he used his crutches to make his way down the front steps. Thomas climbed in and got himself settled, Whiskers opened the door for Talley and then went around, climbed in and started the Audi.
They dropped the kids off, and watched as a group of young kittens greeted Flower and Ralph with friendly banter. Rosie and the girls went toward a group of girls playing hopscotch. The girls too were received with real affection. There was no interspecies problem here. Talley smiled knowing exactly what Whiskers was thinking. She said, “Is there a lesson here, Sweetheart?”
Whiskers nodded, “There is but the young have to teach it.”
Later as they waited for Thomas to receive his check-up, Talley said, “We didn’t have any problems between the animals last winter, and I think as long as all of the animals are warm, comfortable and well fed, I don’t think there will be any trouble. I think they’ll make new friendships and become closer.”
Whiskers eyes lit up. He said, “When you say it, like that, Talley, I believe it.”
Thomas came down the hall on his crutches but the cast that he wore were new and they were lighter. His doctor said, “Thomas is making a remarkable recovery, the x-rays show that the bones have completely knit, the cast are just to protect them from any lateral stress, another couple of weeks and he’ll be as good as new. Then the hard part will begin with the physical therapy. I do have to say, though that

Thomas has lost very little muscle mass, so his therapy will focus mostly on restoring his range of motion.”
Thomas was all smiles when he said, “Doctor, I owe my recovery to family, This family here, and my wife and my children!”
Annabella was beaming with happiness.
The doctor nodded and said, “Thomas, I believe you’re right, prayer and love are powerful healing medicines, and your remarkable recovery is proof of that.”
With the light fiberglass casts Thomas was almost as fast on his crutches as the rest of them. They got to the car and climbed in. When they got back to the house, Callie and Angel Maggie were making Chicken Vegetable Barley soup. The aroma was wonderful. The soup was full of vegetables that had been growing in the garden this morning. The aroma of baking bread mingled in with that of the soup. Whiskers suddenly realized he was starving. Pete came in from the workshop and saw Thomas. He exclaimed, “Hey Thomas, look at you! Those look like racing casts you’re wearing.”
Thomas laughed and said, “They’re a lot easier to get around in than the old ones”
Pete nodded, “I can see that you’re a lot more mobile than you were before. I know you’re tired of hearing it, but don’t do too much and hurt yourself.”
The bread was removed from the oven and lunch was served.
The soup was delicious and was perfectly complemented by thick slabs of bread ith fresh butter. The butter was delicious. It was a project that they had heard about at school, Tabitha had explained, “All you need is heavy whipping cream, a sealed jar, and a few kids to keep the jar shaking for a couple of hours. Just shake the jar vigorously in two minute intervals, with two minute breaks in between. After a few sessions, most of the cream should congeal into delicious butter” It had worked, and though it wasn’t less expensive than buying good butter, it truly was delicious, made much better with the addition a special ingredient; love.

Whiskers buttered another slice of crusty bread and dipped it in his soup. The kids had come home from school and even though they had enjoyed meatballs and zoodles served at school, they all said they had some room for soup and bread.
After they finished lunch and cleaned up the kitchen, they began to load their bags and boxes on to the big magic carpet. Tabitha included two quarts of heavy cream in her box of goodies and said she was going to show the other kittens how to make butter.
When they were all ready Angels Lucy and Sylvie transported them to Massachusetts into Ana, Sandy and Haley’s backyard.
As soon as the carpet settled to the ground Ana and A K Malachi rushed over to help Pete, Mitch and Whiskers unload. It was a chilly night and the rain was light but steady. Tabitha told Pearl that she was cold. Pearl took windbreakers from one of her bags and gave them to the girls. Daisy said, Mommy always thinks of everything that we need.”
Pearl said, “That’s what mommies do.”
They moved all of the boxes and bags into the garage. Pete and Whiskers set up the folding tables while Mitch helped Callie, Orangie and Whitey to get the food out of the coolers. Talley set up the warming stands while Raven and Ms. Murphy set out the soup, baskets of fresh bread, chicken wings and shrimp skewers. Talley laid out four beautiful lattice topped apple pies. The weather was making the traditional campfire impossible, but Pete had a plan. He picked up one of the boxes and while Mitch and Whiskers laid out the bedrolls for the family, he took a plastic contraption out of the box and put six D-cell batteries in it. He set it on the floor and clicked a remote control. The plastic logs glowed and flickered with a warm orange light. It looked remarkably like a real campfire. Since Pete’s campfire didn’t offer real fire, Maggie had made S’more cones, which would be finished in the oven. (recipe follows)
S’mores Cone (Oven Variation of a Campfire Cone)
Ingredients:
• Sugar cone

• Peanut butter
• Chopped-up bananas
• Marshmallows
• Chocolate Chips
Supplies:
• Knife
• Foil
• Cookie sheet
1) Spread peanut butter on the inside of the sugar cone. Layer the remaining ingredients in the cone.
2) Cover the top of the cone with foil and place on a cookie sheet.
Heat the cones in a 350 degree oven for about 5-7 minutes.
Angel Maggie quickly counted the number of kittens and prepared a tray of the cones. Ana took them inside and ten minutes later returned with the gooey treats! The Halloween stories were being told and Mitch sat with Tabitha, Daisy and Liliana. They buried their little faces in his fur during the scary parts. Ralph and Flower sat transfixed at the story of the ghost cat who could catch mice and leave them for his mom to let her know he was still watching over her.
It was a great evening, and soon the kittens were asleep and the adults snuggled into their sleeping bags. Talley kissed Whiskers. He kissed her back and they fell asleep snuggled in their sleeping bags.

Hi Whiskers and Family!
Hey, 47 is pretty cold for you out there in CA! We were 48 ourselves, this morning! But we did finally climb up to 65. Tomorrow will be a different story, though. We are expecting an overnight low of 38 and a high for tomorrow of only 58! That may make us stay in the house a little more. Now, I said MAY, not a sure thing...MOL! At least, we haven't had anymore rain.

I'm so glad that Ebony and Sugar Bear will be getting a great forever home! I know your Mom will miss them, but they are as close as next door. I'm sure they will be more than happy to let her come and visit with them.

Dad named Midnight. He is all black with a tiny bit if wispy white on his chest. And you're probably right, if he's feral, which he is, then he'll know enough to stay away from humans. Frosty is very leery of strangers, too. But she's very friendly with Mom and Dad. It would be nice if she could become an inside kitty, too. She's very loving. But of course, BC doesn't like her, either! All we need is another kitty that get picked on!

Did you catch the good news about Duchess that Mom posted on CMR? She can't believe that at the ripe old age of 21, she doesn't have any kidney issues! She has never really been sick enough to go to the vet, except when she had a corneal ulcer on her eye. And even then, she wasn't sick. She's never had any serious health issues and it looks like she'll be around for quite awhile. Thanks so much for your prayers for her. All the prayers are what helped her the most!

Well, dear furiend, thank you so much for the Halloween Cat Luck and Lore! It was very interesting!

So, now, I have to say goodnight to you and I'm leaving a furry vote with love and wishes for a blessed evening and sweet dreams. You and your family are always in our prayers. Take care and I'll try to see ya, tomorrow. Mom and Dad are taking their friend to the doctor in Cookeville, tomorrow. Love ya!

Lots of hugs and headbonks,
Mischief

Hi Whiskers
Dr. Stuart is taking blood on Thursday and checking my numbers. He says there may be a supplement or something to get me better. I was out for a while after my treatment. I get clingy after those.
We're glad to hear that your mom's doing better still. I can imagine that she has become attached to the black beauties, but she's doing a wonderful thing by giving them a good home.
Yes, today was a pretty, sunny day here too. A bit cool though. That's supposed to improve come Friday, where we can see highs in the upper 60's and maybe even lower 70's!
Mom's letter made it into Cat Fancy this month. It's the one about the Tonkinese! :)

Hi K Whiskers and family!
Awww...thanks so much for the compliment on my profile. It's my Halloween costume from last year. Mom made a mew one but Jakar and I are waiting until Halloween to put it up. So I have last year's on now, to get in the spirit. And thanks so much for the Black Cat poem; it's so appropriate. Mom adopted me in October and sis told her black kitties are special....mom hadn't planned to get a black kitty but sis talked her into it.

I am so sorry to hear that your mom has been sick and am bringing her some chicken soup with a basket of healing wishes. Hope she is feeling better! Missed your family at the rink, even though Talley's family brought you there.

Have a super evening! Big hugs!

Dear K. Whiskers & Family,
I'm glad the sun is back out, but 47* is certainly cold! So Ebony and Sugar Bear go to their new home today? I know your Mom will miss them, but she can go visit them now at the neighbors. They are very blessed kitties to have had your Mom to take care of them and find them a furever home.

I want to tell you what a wonderful time Ana and I had this past weekend. Thanks for letting me take on the Lear 85, for my experience. It was especially great getting to meet Spongie! He and I have written to each other for a long time, but never met before. The pawty and visitation blogs were wonderful. Thank you so very much!

Thank you and I will give me pawrents big hugs from you all. You, too, are all always in our prayers.

Hi Whiskers
Well, you sure don't have to sell ME on black cats! I have one for a little sister and I'm really happy about that. She's my special little pal and we're sitting together on the couch right now, waiting for Big Bro Will to finish cooking and come sit with us. She knew something was wrong with me when I first had diabetes, she used to come lick on my ears until I would yap at her & tell her to knock it off. Now that I'm doing so well she doesn't do that very much anymore. And sometimes I do it to HER, too.

Still no insulin since Thursday, and the last three readings have been more stable than the 3 days before, which were kind of up & down within the normal range. It's all progress!

Glad to hear that your Mom is feeling better. Don't let her overdo it and relapse! There are probably a lot of things she wants to do, but try & get her to take it easy. Be firm. Sit on her lap if necessary. YOU know what to do! -- Mike

Silly Whiskers, of course your Mom is
moving slowly. Being so sick takes a lot out of anyone, not just cats. Give her time to get her strength back!

Ebony sounds like he was once someone's pet. I'll bet he was! Mars was a former feral, and was very loyal to our parents. She loved them as much as they loved her. A lot of people were afraid of Mars, but not Mom and Dad. As your Mom is finding out former ferals can be the sweetest, most loving cats ever. Hugs, KC and the Zoo Crew

Hi Whiskers
It is downright cold outside today. Only in the low 50's, it was rainy in the morning, and it is windy, too. It isn't supposed to be a terrible week, highs to be in the mid 50's to 60's.

Mom just got home from work and had to put Sheba back outside cause she is being nasty again! We don't understand that girl..why does she feel the need to growl and slap all the time. WE are peaceful kitties and don't like confrontations.

Momma went out yesterday and she came home with some orange and black pompoms for us to play with..she put them in our catnip jug and then took them out...boy did we ever have fun with them....now they are all over the dining room floor.

Hope you have a pawsome evening!

Dear Whiskers,
We are so glad your mom is better, but it sounds as if she needs some more rest.
By the way, did you know that we have a super 23 lb.
panther here? Yes, Tony (Soprano), is the other kitty here and yesterday I smacked him in the head when he passed in front of me while I was sitting on the couch next to my mom. He is always trying to get on the couch next to MY mom, but I stretch out so he can't. Mom has him on a diet of only wet food, but he never loses weight. She exercises us,watches our nutrition.
Besides that, he slams all the kitchen cabinets(I really mean SLAMS) when he is hungry. He eats my food and mom had to feed me separately.Annoying.
The good thing is that he is our door greeter, so each year at Halloween, dad and Tony greet the kids and they get scared by our fa..I mean big boy!Oh yes, he is our lovable black kitty.
Stay well mom!

Hi Whiskers!
Not much going on around here lately - unless you count the sheep across the street getting out somehow and ending up in our yard one night! Mom had to round one of them up and bring it back. Nobody could figure out how they got out of the pasture. Hmm...?

Lots of rain here this week, but still pretty warm, in the 40s at night. Dad used the lawn mower to "vacuum" up a bunch of leaves last week. I think he's gonna do it again sometime this weekend - if the rain stops. We still don't have a LOT of leaves off the trees yet. Seems like there have been some years when the leaves don't fall til Thanksgiving! We like watching those last few holdouts shake in the breeze! Our tails REALLY get lashing around!

Hope you are having a great week!

Ana and I always love coming to you all's house. You and Talley are so very kind to us. I, too, am SO glad we are good furiends. The weekend was lovely.

Thank you for the poem "The Black Cat". Hey! I resemble that poem! Thank you, also, for my vote with soft purrs, hugs and prayers. You and your family are always in our prayers.

Wishing you and your family a very blessed night and sweet dreams.

Purrs & kitty kisses,

Hi there, kitties! It's Hedley!
Glad to hear that your mom is feeling a little better tonight. Tell her to keep getting better every day.
Yeah! We had rain this morning, too! It was great! It rained enough to water down the yard, but it did dry up pretty quickly, and the entire outside chowder showed up for lunch.

We love the poem about black cats, too. Especially Jakar. He sends his thanks. Boy, is that so true. Too bad some stupid humans can be so superstitious. They are missing out on a wonderful companion with a black kitty. Heh, heh, almost as good as the companionship of an Orange kitty! Am I right? ( MOL)

Purrs, your Hedley

Come visit me, Sir Hedley, K. Neelix (Katie's guy) & Count Jakar (Vote Carman COTM).

My precious Whiskers, We are wrapping your mommy
in prayers tonight, so that she gets better from the flu.
My dad had quite a day today, He had to go to jury duty and he wasn’t selected for a jury until almost four o’clock he and the other jurors were brought into the courtroom and the judge asked the States Attorney if he was ready to proceed and he said he and the defense counsel would like to approach the bench, The judge let them and they talked for quite a while and then the judge asked the bailiff to take the jury out. Dad and the rest of the jurors sat in their little room until nearly six. Then they were called back into the courtroom and only the judge was there. He said that the young man on trial was one of three who had robbed a convenience store and shot the clerk. The clerk wasn’t killed, but was badly injured and the three of them were being charged with larceny, attempted murder and several other charges that would add up to more 80 years. (In Florida a crime committed using a gun is a mandatory 25 year sentence with no parole) Any way, the Judge told the Jurors that the young man whose case they were going to hear, had agreed to testify against the other two, that he had no juvenile record and that the other two had allegedly coerced him into participating in the crime. The state had agreed to lesser charges and the case would be refiled later. The judge thanked the jurors, and told them that since they had been seated as a jury that that their jury duty obligation was fulfilled and they were dismissed and didn’t have to come back tomorrow. Dad says it was the shortest jury duty he ever had to serve.
When dad got home, he and mom went out to target to replace the TV. The three year old big screen Samsung (46”) died completely last Friday and dad was tired of watching TV on his Kindle, so he went on line and looked for deals. He found a nice 55” Vizio Smart TV for $649.00 at Target and then they got five percent off of that by using their Target Visa card. (Dad bought the extended warranty this time.)
I can’t remember whether I told you that I posted a picture of our stairwell portrait gallery on the Whiskers and Talley page. You look so dashing!
Dad is working on our cave shelter blog and will post it around lunchtime tomorrow.
Purrs my darling husband, My heart is yours now and for all eternity

Hi Whiskers and Family!
I'm so glad your Mom is a little better today! We have been praying for her to get well, soon, so she can get back to getting Ebony and Sugar Bear acclimated to their soon-to-be forever home. There's still about 1 1/2 weeks until Halloween.

Halloween actually, makes Mom worry a little about the little black feral kitty, Midnight, that has been coming to eat. He's less afraid of Mom and Dad, but still very skittish and won't come closer than about 3-4 feet. He usually sits at the bottom of the steps while Mom or Dad put out the food and waits for them to go back in the house. He seems to hang around Frosty quite a bit. He only comes around at night. Sometimes before dark, though. The poem about the black cat was very appropriate for this time of the year! Thanks for sharing.

WooHoo! You got a little rain, huh? Well, sprinkles, anyway. I guess you could call that a start! We had a few sprinkles today, too. Barely enough to wet the ground. There was only a 20% chance, but I guess we were in the 20% area...MOL! We had a low this morning of 43 and a high of 63. We have been mostly in the lower to mid 40s for lows and the lower to mid 60s for highs. Looks like it will be getting colder, real soon! But I think I heard Mom say something about the lower 70s for a couple of days over the weekend. We like that!

Duchess is doing real well and is glad she'll be ready for the Halloween pawty at the Castle! She's looking forward to it!

Well, my dear furiends, I am leaving you a vote and wishes for a wonderful evening and pleasant dreams. You and your family are always in our prayers and especially your Mom, right now. Glad you're taking good care of her. Take care, my furiend. Love ya!

Lots of hugs and headbonks,

Hi Whiskers
Mom hopes that I am turning the corner since they discovered my hiding place. When they come and see me, I come out. I even cuddled a bit with them today. I laid on Mom while she was reading.
Could it be the humidity affecting your mom's joints? I know when it gets damp here, the family has some trouble. We will keep her in our prayers.
Now we're in a dry spell. They're saying there might be a bit of rain, but it may be too dry in the atmosphere to actually get any.
Mom loves the poem about the black cat. She was thinking about adopting one, but GGM doesn't see so well and a black cat around a legally blind person.....not good. And of course, she met me! :)
Love,
Sakura

♥ Mom's waiting for a return phone call from Dr. Nancy as mom left a couple updates that doggie Wilbur is still vomiting also that Patch Girl still has the sneezes and snotty nose.

♥ TC wasn't feeling too well yesterday so he stayed in his bed in the back room mostly all day on Sunday which meant Patch Boy had to stay locked in his crate cuz they will fight. Patch Boy is super good when he has to stay locked in it!!!!

♥ Mom took dad to town this morning for his dental appointment. He has to go back Tuesday late afternoon by himself to have 3 bottom teeth pulled for now.

♥ Mom says we probably will not be able to do our return visits tomorrow as someone is coming here at 2:30pm to clean 2 couches plus the carpet in the girls' room. Mom will be putting the girls (Sylvr Tuff #160205; Kittzi #160203; Teakee #25544 & Sausha #22506) in carriers and into the bathroom so mom can vacuum and wash their beds before the carpet gets cleaned.

♥ Dad caught a Silver Salmon yesterday, but had to release it cuz he already got his limit allowed for the year. His nephew David did catch a Steelhead and was able to keep it.

♥ Mom got her two new rose bushes planted in the front yard today then shortly after she got in the house, the sky opened up and down came buckets of rain!!!! Mom said that was purr*fect timing!!!!

Dear Whiskers,
Hope your Mom is feeling better today!
By the way my mom ordered that kitty house but it will take 4 weeks until it gets here, so mom will set up the one we have first. The weather wasn't so cold today but it will soon, I'm sure.
Kisses and hugs,

Hi K. Whiskers,
How was your day today? It was a chilly one here, rather Fall like. Mom spent the morning washing clothes and I always enjoy the warmth from the dryer. Hehehe.!!! In the afternoon, Mom and Dad worked in the yard, still cutting down perennials. I was out several times, watching them work and playing in the leaves. Now I am very happy to be in the warm house, relaxing and watching the birdies at the feeders from my condo. I hope that you will have a nice evening too. Purrs and a hug, Mittens...

Hi K Whiskers
What’s purring with you today? I am having a super busy day. This morning I supervised the water delivery guy. Then I visited with Mr. UPS guy, who insulted me by saying that I am huge. I would not say that to him, but I could! Now this afternoon the cabana boys are mowing our grass & cleaning the pool. I am watching them from my windowseat. This supervising is hard work! I think I need a nap.

With Sleepy Purrs,

Hi Whiskers, I sure hope your Mommy is
feeling better today. Your quote today is a bit off. We had a cat that would attack anyone who she thought didn't belong in the house! Not the mailman, but one night someone tried to break in and she was the one that scared him off and alerted our parents! That even though there were two dogs in the house at the time. Mars was fearless and something else, a very special cat. Hugs, Pique and the Zoo Crew
