Louie and I thank everyone for voting him COTD today. Trust me, it was a surprise! Spending time with his memory yesterday meant quite a few sad moments, yet through the tears my funny little guy still found ways to make me smile. Even though Louie has always been an angel on CC, he has made friends, and many of you have taken him into your own hearts - which only proves, he really was irresistible! Thank you for being Louie's friends.

~Trixie's Tantalizing Animal Tales~ March 4th
Happy Monday sweet furiends! There nothing like getting a late start on the day, & that’s exactly what I meowed at mom when she was checking her e-mail instead of getting my important campaign work accomplished…MOL! Thank you for the votes you pawed my way yesterday! Each one is treated like a national treasure in my memory archives & is deeply appreciated! BTW...I found out that my name means 'bringer of joy' so I hope that's true...MOL! Okay sweet kitties…I’ve told you about some of the world’s smallest animals so I think it’s only fair to devote some time to a few of the world’s largest ones. We’ll start off with a common critter that many of you have in your own homes…although probably not as big as this one…MOL!
WORLD’S BIGGEST DOG- Over the past two odd decades there have been many dogs which have been featured in the Guinness book of world records for their extremities. Leading the list of such hounds is HERCULES, an English Mastiff, which was inducted in the Guinness book of world records back in 2001 for being the world’s biggest dog, weighing 294 lbs. and having a 39 inch broad neck. Hercules was three years of age, and has paws that are the size of a softball! He may be huge, but is very well-behaved. As a puppy Hercules was large, but his owner didn’t think that he would go on to become the world’s biggest dog. As far as diet is concerned, his owner maintains categorically that he has never served Hercules with anything extraordinary and that Hercules’ size is totally natural. They have fed him what they would have otherwise fed any normal dog. Hercules is a dog that enjoys the limelight too! It was in 2001, when Hercules was declared as being the world’s biggest dog that his owner came to know about the limelight-loving nature of this pooch. Hercules would go wagging to the interviewers and in front of the cameras, which made him a lovable animal to everyone he met. He was featured on many news and daily shows, and was even featured in a few commercial ads. Whatever it was, the world’s biggest dog was willing to try out new things, much to the surprise and approval of its owners. Later on, due to his loving nature, the world largest dog was doing shows and was booked for various birthday parties. He was also allowed to meet and get photos shot with children who came to see him from around the world. Hercules, in true sense, stands as a testimony to the phrase “the gentle giant”!

WOW…I’m SO glad that our family dog Sammie didn’t want to achieve a world record as one of the biggest dogs. I feel small compared to her as it is so can only imagine looking up to one the size of a Shetland pony…MOL! Tomorrow we’ll be heading to to see another world record holder but this one lives on a farm so wear your jeans & mud boots! Thank you so much for your loving votes of support for my campaign. i was sleeping snugly inside the feed room when mom came out to check on me. pigeon feathers were flying around in the covered arena. nope, it wasn't me this time. the red tailed hawk got one of our pigeons. good riddance! they poop everywhere! wish i'd have been quick enough but i don't mind sharing with ms hawk.
sounds like blackbeard has a nice new home with your neighbors sister. does she live far enough away that he won't try to come back?

2/2/13 Thank You--- Happy Caturday! King Barney
A very good morning dear Furrends of the CC Kingdom! Wow! Day two! Yesterday we all worked out paws to the bone moving in and want to thank all the kitties, who celebrated with us at the coronation and ball afterward and helped with the move yesterday. We could not have done it without you. Thank you Steve for rescuing Zeus from the storage shed out back--- he was mumbling something about looking for a port-a-potty. Thank everyone for all the donations to storm victim kitties and families. Most have already been delivered, but we shall keep the room available for any donations for those, who may need emergency supplies ongoing. Donations may also be brought directly to Julius Steven's page, as it is his original idea, for which we are all grateful.

Molly wants to thank Chyna, Sandy, Ana, Haley as volunteer chefs and all the kitties helping stock and help out in the royal kitchen, so we can have drop in dining for any kitties in need or just needing a place to warm their paws a bit and chat with furrends,

Our official blogs will be Tuesday and Thursday, with other days allowing us time for more purrsonal replies and time for mom to get a bit of rest! Several kitties have asked if we will continue our rescue stories. That is fine with us, if that is what you want--- there are many more to tell! We want to remind everyone we are planning an ice carnival for Valentine's day and hope you will all contribute to the planning.

1/26/13 Another Happy Caturday from Barney!
My last of the Catpaign??? 0 degrees here in the frozen North! Scarey, Scarey all of it --- not really, as we are all furrends. Its been quite an experience and we loved every minute. A big apology to those we miss with our blog. Mom is not always the most organized c/p er. She tries to double check, but makes mistakes. We try to check in the evening too, so if we see your note on Barney's page and mom hasn't gone to bed early, we will still deliver. Also, we are always posted on CMR and Barney's Inspiration page. Do thank you all for your patience. Mom is also changing our data plan for our wireless to get more data for less of the green papers that Hefty wishes she would give to us, because he says they are really tasty!

Well, Today we have finished talking about our current family, but have a few choices as we go back in history. Cats and dogs are not the only critters mom has rescued in the past. A few of you may have met our Angel rats on SAC. Yes, rats and no, we did not discover they were delicious! For the most part we only socialize through the bars of their cage/home. Angel Max did get out once and, yes, we kitties, Barney, Molly and Hefty even visited a bit until mom woke up and discovered the situation. No, she did not get a picture, but wishes she had. She just got too rattle and scooped Max up, scaring him and getting bit in the process. First she came downstairs, having just got up to let the dogs out and trying to wake up to get ready for work. She walked in the living room and went to say good morning to our rat, as was her habit, only he wasn't there and the door to the cage was open. She began to panic and search with her eyes--- she discovered us, all three kitties sitting in a line--- and, Max sitting in the middle! Now she double panicked! Her instinct was that if he ran, he was a goner. Possibly correct, but we will never tell. What a scene and no camera close by. She was not going to hunt for one either. Carefully she approached Max and he started to head for something to hide under... We were given a very stern, "Don't do it!" Awww Mom! Well, she grabbed Max, got bit, but didn't let go and put him back in his cage. Now she put twist ties on his door too. Talk about not trusting us! We are surely insulted!

Sorry for such a late morning today and do hope its a wonderful Caturday for all. Mom hopes to relax. Her cousin Janet, by the way, passed her CNA test with flying colors on the first try! Thanks to all those CC prayers!

coming by with a caturday vote. we had some glorious sunshine today! haven't seen it for awhile so even the horses were laying in the sunbeams! mol. our black feral cat furiend has been parading around. mama likes him but isn't putting food out for him. i don't want to fight with him. he comes up on the porch with me at night then runs when the doggies come out for walkies. i'm not scared of no stinkin' doggies! one swat on the nose and they squeal and run. mol.

1/12/13 Happy Caterday to all!
Barney here again and how I do love that Caterday expression! Well, I have been doing a lot of thinking this week about the theme for our January Catpaign. We have talked a lot about mom and our rescue group. So far most of the kitties we've introduced have been past Angels. I do want to talk about the current kitties too, so I guess we can call our theme a self-portrait of our CC family.

While I can't remember exactly how long we have been on CC, it has been about four years. My first COTD was 2/26/09. Mom discovered CC a short time after the death of a good friend, who had been living with her for several years. The way mom met her was through another friend, who had known Lynne from childhood and knew mom from working together at the U. of MN. Lynne lost her apartment when her landlord was remodeling the building. She had four cats and needed to find someone to care for them until she found another place to live. Their mutual friend approached mom with the problem and asked mom if there was any way she could help. Mom already had several cats she was fostering and really was at her limit. She was living by herself in the house she inherited from her grandmother, who had died a year before. Finally she asked where Lynne would be living and the answer was that she did not know. Mom thought on the problem. It did not make sense for her to take more cats, but she did have room for another human, if she was sure they were a safe person to live with. Her friend assured mom she had known Lynne since childhood, so mom decided to take a chance. Mom decided the only way she would take the cats was if Lynne came with and cared for them. Lynne's male cats George and Reggie had been neutered, but her females Felicia and Baby (who was Felicia's baby) were not. Mom made an agreement with Lynne that she would help get low cost spays for the girls, but Lynne did need to agree to have the cats spayed, if they were to live with mom. She quickly agreed.

Well, tomorrow is Sunday, and Sunday we would like to keep as an open day for questions about anything you may want to know from the week before. Depending on the number of questions, we will try to answer all, but may have to save some for the coming week or for purrsonal blogs.

After church today Young Cowboy and I finally enjoyed HorseTime! Most of my time was taken removing mudd from horses, but I enjoyed every minute! Finally to ride! I did not ride Saturday with friends because I had not ridden in weeks and I do not like to take Fancy out when I have not worked with her.
Young Cowboy is very excited for his 12th birthday tomorrow!

Well, I better hurry to bed, we have another big day coming :)

Cat "arrested" for break-in Brazilian prison
There are paw-prints all over the scene of the "crime" for its part in an apparent jail break attempt. This feline's life of crime is now over.

The incident took place at New Year. A smuggling cat has been detained in the grounds of a jail in Brazil with contraband goods for prisoners strapped to its body with tape. They found a mobile phone, charger, headphones and tools. Officials said the items could be used to effect a means of escape or for communicating with criminals on the outside.

The white cat was apprehended crossing the main prison gate. The incident took place at a jail in Arapiraca city, 250km (155 miles) south-west of Recife in Alagoas state.

The cat had apparently been trained to assist in high-profile prison breaks, and had been seen coming in and out of the jail multiple times prior to its arrest.
The jail holds some 263 prisoners.

There are no leads in the case. All of the prisoners are suspects in the case, but it’ll be hard to get any forward-momentum in the investigation. A prison spokesperson stated: "It's tough to find out who's responsible for the action as the cat doesn't speak."

1/6/13 Good Sunday Morning!
The first Sunday of our Catpaign! Hope its a good one--- will be seeing many of you at MHL tonight. Just a note on the adoption yesterday, both mom and Zeus are still with us. Mom used Feliway Comfort Zone spray, as suggested by some kitty friends and it did seem to help. Also, she gave him a comfy hooded bed, which he sat on top and hugged, but he was grateful for it.

So you know, we will talk more about mom's rescue tomorrow, but several kitties asked to hear the rest of Pasha's story, so that is our topic today.

As we told you last time, Pasha was a free cat, with several health issues and only half neutered as the vet couldn't find one of his testicles. The condition is called cryptochid, which means his testicles were inside his body, instead of where they should be. He also had the abscess in his tail. Mom's vet was able to restore him to health and Pasha lived a long life with mom, with many more adventures in teaching her about cats. Soon after getting Pasha, mom realized that he was also very depressed, perhaps because he had bounced from home to home. She decided that perhaps he needed a companion and when she saw Agatha,an unusual torti-point Oriental SH, in a Mall petshop, she asked to take her immediately! Mom would never buy from a petshop now, but this was when she was young and didn't know better. She brought Aggie home in a box, intending to sneak her up to the spare room for a gradual intro. Aggie had other ideas and popped out of the box right in Pasha's face! She was about 12 weeks old and very bold. Pasha was so surprised, but decided to pretend she wasn't there and went about sniffing the box and around the room. When mom brought Agatha home, she had also forgot that the lady, who gave her Pasha said he didn't like other cats. Later, she discovered, as she began volunteering in rescue, he didn't hate all cats, but was prejudice and only accepted Siamese. Others he would attempt to run out of the house, so mom had to keep him separate and only let him out of her room, when the other cats were in the guestroom. Another adventure happened when mom had a friend come to live with her, after her grandmother's death. Her grandmother had lived to 101 yrs and mom cared for her at home. Anyway, this friend had 4 cats and had lost her apartment, so mom took her in. Pasha was kept away from her cats, because he was super aggressive toward them and could not be trusted. However, one day mom came home to a surprise--- her friend's Siamese Felicia, had somehow got in mom's room and was curled up and washing Pasha's head! Agatha was culed up with both of them.

There are many more Pasha stories, but this blog will get cut off soon, so we must go for today. Pasha lived to about 13 yrs of age with mom and it was a very sad day, when she took him to the vet that last time. He suffered for some time with kidney failure and mom had given him daily fluids until he just told her no more. Barney--- until tomorrow.

1/2/13 Wow! Good thing I got mom up early!
Have to start by thanking all of you for votes and for my second COTD! I am so honored. Well, I did manage to get mom up earlier, actually at 4AM, but she moved slow and it is already past 6:30am here in Minnesota. Don't know what your favorite method for waking Pawrents is, but mine is to walk on mom, until she moves and then until she protests, which happens quickly. I don't even compare to Hefty's weight! Of course, he's still sleeping. Supposed to be a warmer day and the temp here is already +17! All irrelevant, since we are technically "indoor only." Zeus and I challenge that from time to time, mostly Zeus now, because I know its for the best in Winter.
Well, I did say I was going to start talking about my family. I think I'll pick on mom, because even though she has always liked cats, she probably wouldn't have considered her a cat person, until the last 20 years. Her mom loved all animals and grew up on a farm, back in the days when all the animals had a name. She taught mom to love all creatures, but died when mom was only 8 rears old. Mom's dad had grown up on a farm too, but was not so attached to nature, although he loved dogs and had one as a child. Mom got her first dog in her teens, a Boxer. She got her first cat in college, while living with a roommate, who was an artist and also loved cats. When she moved home after college, however, the cats went to her roommates mom, because mom's dad and grandparent, who she lived with, did not want a cat. For many years mom lost contact with her beloved kitties. Later in life,during the time she was caring for her grandmother, however, she decided to get a cat, a Siamese she named Pasha, who she found through a newspaper add. Someone had rescued him, but couldn't keep him, because he didn't get along with her other cats. Mom then learned her first lesson about strays--- free cats are not free! Although he had been given shots and the first rescuer thought he was neutered, he began spraying and peeing outside the box. Mom took Pasha to the vet and found out two major problems. First he had a bladder infection, probably due to stress, but also, he had surgical scars the whole length of his belly! The vet's guess was that he had one testicle left inside his body, not where it was supposed to be, and during the original neuter, the vet must have not found it and had to give up. The second problem was that Pasha had an abscess in his tail, which the vet had to lance and keep a drain in for a few days. Mom had to keep it clean and the hole open to drain the infection--- not the way to impress a cat with his new mom! Or, for mom to learn about the perils of rescuing.

Perhaps we will stop here with a word of inspiration from our current foster bro, Zeus: his philosophy is that Life is Adventure and his New Year's resolution is that if you can't find an adventure, create one!

Into the new year with a vote ♥

COWBOY & TRIGGER, the Young Prince & King of January: I called Cowboy into the room and told him to read the computer screen. He read it and he said smiled. I asked him if he knew what it meant. He said Trigger won HOTD. I told him no, read it again. He asked me what is HOTM. I explained to him that means Horse Of the Month. He was very excited as he told me in his own 11 year old words that HOTM was a great surprise in addition to his birthday being Monday! Trigger was his usual calm ole self, just mellow and go lucky, and trying to get along with miss Bossy Pants, Fancy. Cowboy and Trigger send thanks for voting them Jan HOTM. I could not figure out who left their landmark votes. Any way we thank each of you for every vote!

HAPPY NEW YEAR from Cowboy & Trigger and Fancy & Frances!!!!!!!!!

Cowboy and Trigger won January HOTM!!!!! And I can't wait to spring it on them when he wakes up!!! Cowboy's will be 12 years old January 7th, this is one of the best early birthday presents ever! I can not call him LITTLE Cowboy anymore, now I shall call him Cowboy. I am sure he will want to go out into the rain to give Trigger treats!

Good Morning! How has your week been? I am back on normal schedule until New Years. Along with cold temps, much needed rains have finally returned to North Carolina. We had quite a few days of rain and are expecting more throughout the upcoming week. We need some snow at our house this year! I know some areas are covered with snow! If snow is at your house, please be careful as you go about your daily activities. Today is a sunny day, but I was hoping to get some much needed horsey time. I have soo much to do today, I don't know what will happen. Fancy needs more of my attention than running out with a treat throughout the day.

What a glorious time of year! Sorry we have been so busy. Now I can tell you about our Christmas holiday. It was filled with Christmas play practice, eating, shopping, & cooking. The usual things :) The only fun horsey time we have enjoyed has been running out the back door to feed them quick snacks through each day. That has really helped Trigger to stop running away from me. LOL. This was my first Christmas attending our candle light service. I enjoyed that and plan to make it part of my future Christmas traditions. Christmas dinner was the best ever! My sister helped my mom cook! I helped do little things like prep and put stuff in place, etc. Christmas night, we drove to a nearby town to see the light show. They have made several improvements and it was the best light show yet.
We look forward to reading about your 2012 Christmas. As we visit your pages, we enjoy all the Christmas photos and holiday avatars. I hope you enjoyed some horsey time somewhere along the way.
