Hello Cisco
How are you? Yesterday I visited Dr. William for my annual checkup, blood work (CBC, 6-panel, T3 & T4), shots and 3-month Schirmer eye test. First the good news – my eyes are doing well.

Mommy’s intuition told her something was going on with me, so now the not-so-good mews. I am in the very early stages of kidney disease:
My BUN level = 38 (normal is 16-36)
My Creatinine = 2.6 (normal is .8-2.4)

Dr. William says we caught this early. For now, we are going to treat it by changing my diet to Prescription Diet k/d. So far, I am eating both the k/d canned and the k/d dry food. We will recheck my levels in 3 months.

I also have a UTI, so I am taking Clavamox, the wonder drug. My thyroid level (T4) is in the “grey area” so Dr. William sent some of my blood to Texas A&M so they can run a test called T4 by Equilibrium Dialysis. We should receive those results next week.

As you can imagine, Mommy is very upset, stressed, & worried about me. Please keep us in your prayers.

Our door is always open for guests so come when you can & stay as long as you want because the pawty won't end until the last kitty closes their eyes for a nap!

~It’s a shout-out for ERNIE #200361 so please pounce on his votey button today!~

It was a dark & stormy night in my neck of the woods & we lost power in the middle of the night & when we woke up our clocks were all flashing so we were lost in time..MOL! Since it’s so muddy & water is standing everywhere I’ve decided to take a road trip to see the LAPORTE COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM! (http://www.laportecountyhistory.org) It has over 100,000 items on display. Many are family heirlooms brought into the county by the original pioneers. They include furniture, household items, tools, memorabilia, antique toys, rare dolls is on display as well as one of the largest and finest collections of antique weapons. Many products manufactured in the county by local industries are also displayed. Period room settings showcase much of the museum collection. A pioneer log cabin, Victorian parlor with a unique square grand piano, 1920's kitchen, a business office and a dentist office of the past typify this aspect of the museum displays. See the pics in my gallery to catch a glimpse of what we’ll see today but let’s get on board the Calico Express Tour bus & as we motor down the road I’ll meow to you about one of our special CC furiends!

SNUGGLES’s #124534 mom is really proud & has learned to trust her magnificent hearing, especially since mom is somewhat hearing impaired. One cold winter night the neighbors lit their wood stoves to keep warm while mom had gone to her bunk bed. Snuggles smelled the smoke & thought something must be wrong so she knew she had to wake her mom up. She tried several time to wake her by putting her nose on hers but she kept pushing her away. Finally she jumped onto the top bunk & jumped down on mom several times until finally the pouncing & nose nudges of Snuggles woke mom up. She smelled the smoke & put Snuggles in a pillow case(she was the only cat at the time), woke up GM & called the fire department. When they came to check it out assumed it was that the smoke from nearby being been drawn in by their heat pump, making Snuggles think the house was in trouble. The fireman said that Snuggles was a true hero for waking up her family! Another time Snuggles also alerted her mom when a neighbor came to the door, which mom didn’t hear. Sweet Snuggles thought he meant trouble and started growling and even pointed like a dog toward the kitchen. This heroic & brave kitty got lots of treats for her actions to protect her mommy & she was very deserving of them! Today I ask her to step to the front of the bus to please accept the award of the Calico Medal of Defense for her exceptional determination to protect her beloved mom more than once.

Thanks for the birthday and COTD wishes!!!! I had a great birthday yesterday, Mom took me outside to sit in the nice sun, and I had special treats and tuna, overall a great day, sun and napping!!! Purrfect for me!!!! I was so happy I am COTD today, I told Mom I wanted more tuna and to go out with her again, but she said she has to work so ok to tuna, but no to outside (its nice today, but if you can believe it, we are supposed to get a foot of snow tonight and tomorrow ...YUCK) Hope you have a great day!!! Now that I’ve peaked your curiosity (MOL) I’m going to spin you all the way back to California to meow about a very special & heroic bird that was owned by SABRINA’s #11187 mom a long time ago, (B.C. before cats)! OBIE was just a common yellow parakeet but he was very special and spoke 3 languages...English, Italian and Spanish. Obie lived in a cage in the living room but he liked to stand on top of the cage, on mom’s shoulder, or flew around during the time he was out every day…but never leaving the room. One day, his mom reached into the top cupboard to pull out a crock pot and lost her grip and it came crashing down on her head. She’d never in my life experienced this sensation & truly saw stars and felt herself losing consciousness. All of sudden, Obie flew into the room and landed on her shoulder and started chirping "pretty bird", "Ciao Bella", "Que Paso" into her ear as she gripped the countertop. (Obie never had been in the kitchen before and it was a completely separate room as the living room) She later went to the emergency room & found out she had a concussion. She believes Obie & his act of heroism prevented her from being knocked out cold that day.

Hmmm…I think my big sis just got a quick jab in at my demanding catitude along with thank you meows...MOL! Today I’m bringing you a heroic story that is on the freekibble site after you answer the cat trivia. No pic today though since it wouldn’t let me copy it.
~SOLDIER AND CAT SAVE EACH OTHER IN AFGHANISTAN~
Stationed in an Army base in southern Afghanistan, Sgt. Knott noticed one day that a feral cat who roamed around the base was limping and bleeding heavily. He lured the cat into his office with a piece of steak and spent the next seven months caring for the cat he named Koshka. The two bonded quickly. Sgt. Knott nursed Koshka back to health, while Koshka comforted Sgt. Knott during the certain danger and emotional toll of war. When it was time for Sgt. Knott to return to the states, he wouldn’t leave Koshka behind. He explained to KPTV how he worked with a local Afghan interpreter who agreed to, in an extremely risky transport, take Koshka to Kabul. Weeks later Sgt. Knott learned that the cat (and his Afghan chaperone) made it safely across “God knows how many Taliban check points,” to Kabul, where Koshka boarded a plane bound for the states. The $3,000 Sgt. Knott’s family forked over to fly the cat home was worth every penny, they said. While Sgt. Knott is currently stationed in Washington state, Koshka is now safe at home with Sgt. Knott’s parents until the pair can be together again. The Oregon Humane Society recently honored Sgt. Knott and Koshka with a 2013 Diamond Collar Hero award for their incredible story of friendship.

Mom has been glued to the weather channel all morning watching the winter storm approaching our area. They’re saying we could get anywhere from 6-12 inches of the white stuff before it’s done but that’s mild compared to some predictions we’ve seen for other areas along its path. Take care & stay safe dear furiends!! Okay kitties, time to quit thinking about snow for a while & get changed into some farm clothes. I’ve got my overalls, boots & straw hat on for our venture today so I hope all you girl kitties left the heels in the closet or you’re going to sink in the mud as we head to the pasture to see the world’s record holding…TALLEST/LARGEST HORSES! The Belgian horse breed is one of the largest breeds of horses in the world today. A testimony to the great strength and size of this particular breed of horses is RADAR (world record holder until 2007). Radar stands at a height of nineteen and a half hands high & weighs more than a ton! In his prime Radar consumed almost 60 pounds of grains and hay, and tanked up to twenty gallons of water, each day! Wherever Radar was displayed there are sign boards warning visitors to be wary of the horse, but he is mostly well-behaved & earned himself the title of the gentle-giant. Radar loves to do display shows, and has been featured on many television shows and at various stores. Now that’s a BIG horse!! I think he could ride every single one of us on his back & still have plenty of room for a human rider…MOL! But he’s nothing compared to the current World Record holder, BIG JAKE! Big Jake was raised in Ostego, MI from a weanling & still resides there today. His owner said he was extremely hard to hold on to when he was young!" Fortunately, the 2600-pound horse has calmed down a bit in his age. He is friendly with all the other animals on the farm, has a great temperament, & works hard when he is harnessed to a wagon. There's a lot of accommodation to be made for such a large animal, too! His stall is 20X20 feet when an average stall is about 12X12 feet & when he needs transported they have to use a semi-trailer. Big Jake is on a strictly healthy diet, consuming 1 1/2 bales of hay and 40 quarts of oats per day! His family is proud to hold the current record & welcomes the curious visitors that come by to see him.
I don’t know about the rest of you kitties but my neck hurts from looking up at these HUGE steeds & I need to take a nap to rest it! ~TRIXIE'S TANTALIZING ANIMAL TALES~ March 1st
Happy March 1st everyone! It’s time to wake up because there’s a calico cyclone pouncing into your homes & my happy twirls & spins will twist you around until you’re dizzy…MOL! Most of you have watched me grow up here on CC after I was brought to my furever home on March 16, 2010. I was a wee little thing then but my catitute was already full grown & I made myself right at home in my new surroundings! And then I started pouncing around CC…MOL! Needless to say I made my catitude known around here too but you accepted me with open paws & loving furiendship that will forever be cherished. Okay…before I get teary eyed I’d better concentrate on my campaign.
To start off my COTM campaign I’m going to tell you about some of the world’s smallest animals. Please watch where you’re pouncing today & don’t swish your tails too hard so we don’t hurt any while we’re looking at them! We’ll start off with…the WORLD’S SMALLEST DOG IN TERMS OF HEIGHT: the smallest living dog is Boo Boo, a long-haired female Chihuahua who proves that good things come in small packages. Boo Boo is just 4 inches tall and weighs in at a mere 2 pounds. She lives in Raceland, Ky., with her owner. WOW…only 4 inches tall means she could be mistaken for a rodent if a cat has bad eyesight…MOL! The next dog on our visit today would have the same problem so please keep your claws retracted kitties or we could have a lawsuit on our paws! The WORLD’S SMALLEST DOG IN TERMS OF LENGTH: The smallest dog in terms of length is Heaven Sent Brandy, a female Chihuahua who measured 15.2 cm (6 in) from the nose to the tip of the tail on 31 January 2005. Brandy lives with her owner in Largo, Florida. Now we’ll move on to some petite pooches that deserve our respect for their abilities! WORLD’S SMALLEST WORKING DOG isTiny Lucy! Meet 6-inch, 2.5-pound Lucy from New Jersey who Guinness recently named the world's shortest working dog. Besides being incredibly cute and tiny, this Yorkshire terrier is also a therapy dog.
Since we started with dogs today it’s only fair for us to end with our own species…MOL! Now we move on to…the WORLD’S SMALLEST CAT: Mr Peebles, a 2 year old domestic cat of Central Illinois holds the Guinness Book of World Records award for the smallest living cat (his small stature is due to a genetic defect). Weighing in around 3lbs he is 6.1 inches high this is definitely the smallest cat I’ve ever seen! Mr. Peebles also has his own Facebook page so pounce over to check it out.

And so my first day of campaign chaos ends & the tiny dogs & cats can go back to napping. Since tomorrow is Caturday we’ll be taking off to visit a zoo someplace in the world so plan to be at the community airport early to get a good seat on one of our planes, & don’t forget to bring along your camera. Here is my story:
I was less than a year old when my old owners droped me off in a odd neighborhood. They left me without any food, water or shelter.
I was parted from my family at brith. I didn't have a mommy cat so I had no one to feed or clean me. I didn't know anything about the real world or humans. Humans to me were like aliens and cars were like their spaceships! MOL!
I was born in a drain in my neighborhood. My mommy cat forgot about me when she was traviling whith my other siblings and Daddy.
I was the runt...the smallest of the litter.
I was so small and skinny when my new owners found me. I needed food. I hadn't had any in 2 months. It was raining when I wondered up on their porch. I was wet, cold, thirsty and hungery.
With a little help, I am ow the cutest, sweetest little boy you will ever meet!
I want to get COTD to show everyone that cats aren't only animals....they are God's little creatures. We are all the same. Every cat has a heart taht needs love. Some humans don't like animals....mostly cats. They thing that we are nasty little varments that don't have feelings. But we do...we need love.....we need kindness...we need to be honored.

The temperature was high 47 & low was 36 this morning, now it's 45 feels like 43 with humidity 73% & wind is 13 MPH S. Friday's suppose to be Fog & High 44.

~Happy Caturday Meows from the NICE Crew~
Sorry we've been MIA for most of this week but mom has had a cold & hasn't let me on to blog. Since she was lax in her duty now I'll be playing catch up again so get ready for me to whiz past at light speed on my rounds today...MOL!
It's a cold & very blustery day in northern IN. Fluffers & I are watching birds trying to fly & had to chuckle when one flew into the living room window. It was stunned for a second but recovered fast & headed toward the outside kitties' food dish. Mom isn't happy that they steal that food but knows they're hungry & food is scarce for them this time of year. You might be asking why the outside kitties aren't chasing them...MOL! The answer to that is because they already ate their breakfast & are now snuggling together in the cattery so they don't have to be out in the wind.
I've got good mews about Zaboo! Remember he has IBD & can't eat just anything so this is actually great mews!! Mom has changed how she feeds him every day by adding tuna to his diet at lunchtime. He loves it & gobbles it up! By the looks of him it may help him gain some of his lost weight back too! The Blue food was helping some but mom said the extra protein from the tuna will also help since he doesn't eat that much dry food anymore. I sure don't hear any complaints from him...MOL! The rest of us nibbled on it the first couple of days but now we're not interested. In fact...I try to bury it because I'm not a big fan of tuna...MOL!
Patches has been doing some playtime activities with me & Fluffers this week. I really think she's playing referee or else she thinks she's the law. Hmmm...Sheriff Patches has a nice ring to it...MOL! Well I'm here to tell you Sheriff that this cyclone & whirlwind will not be intimidated by your paws of justice! We will play from dawn's early light until we get so tired that we can't keep our eyes open any longer. We'll nap for a while & then we'll go at it again...MOL! Well I'd better get my tail in gear so I can catch up with everyone while I've got a captive audience (I'm parked on mom's computer desk & keep staring at her...MOL). Have a catastic Caturday everyone!

Can't leave you out!
FINALLY touching bases. Mom has been very busy and apologizes for not keeping in touch.
Between looking after her Mom (she’ll be 95 in April), trying to get more documents for the re-financing, and cleaning away clutter, there is not a lot of time. However, we are most happy with the time she made to assemble our “kitty tree.” Now we can look and see the outside world without jumping up on the kitchen table, which Mom always says “NO!” when we go there. Mom says she doesn’t want a cat butt in her face when she’s eating. She had to assemble it, and, as in many cases, the instructions were not that great and were even backward in one area. Anyhow we are happy with it. Mom says when the cold spell is over, she’ll move it so we can look out into the back yard. Right now, with the cold weather, she keeps the drapes over to keep the house warm. Keep safe dear friend, and your family too!

Shhh...be very quiet...I'm hunting the wascally white whirlwind & she can be very elusive. She's somewhere close because I can hear her rustling so I must be very careful or become the pounced upon instead of the other way around. Look...there she is under the couch! We'll slowly work that way so as not to alert her to the danger she's in. Closer...closer still...almost there...EEK...she just darted out & whacked me across the ears as she ran off! (Alarm sounds) Calling all whirlwind chasers...please be on the lookout for a white, fast moving kitty with gold spots & tail. She's clawed & dangerous so approach with caution. Repeat...approach with caution! Report her whereabouts immediately to special agent Trixie (that's me...MOL)of the feline pounce patrol so that she can be brought to justice for impersonating ME as she scampers & romps around the house. There can be only one cyclone & I'm it...MOL! Well, until I hear where she disappeared to I'll take a catnip break & meow some family mews.

Mom got her Jeep estimated for damage yesterday...after having a short panic moment when she couldn't find her keys. The repair shop is booked up until the 28th so she'll be taking it back then so they can work on it. It's mechanically sound so they told her it was okay to drive it so mom reminded dad that he needed to clean up the sticky pop that splashed everywhere. Now back to the panic time mom had...MOL! She searched all of the places her keys normally are but couldn't find them. At a loss on what to do since she had to be at the shop in less then 45 minutes, she called dad. Dad to the rescue...MOL! He brought her his key & went back to work. When he got home they searched for a long time but still no keys. Total bummer for mom since her set is the one with the remote start, plus has her house key on it too. Finally a light bulb lit & mom remembered wearing another coat that had been put in plastic in the closet. Dad looked & sure enough...there were her missing keys! She was very relieved but felt silly because she didn't remember wearing that coat so now dad has more ammo to tease her with...MOL!
Oooo...I just saw movement out of the corner of my eye. Could it be...nope false alarm...it was only Zaboo. Well got to go pick up the trail of my elusive victim...err...suspect so will meow at you again soon.

is better than here, although we can't complain about the temps here the past 3 days nice and springlike even with 1/4" of snow which all melted in the warmer sunshine. only a 1-day cold spell today, then warming back into the 50s and 60s for janet's birthday on thursday. got no special plans right now, but i've been giving her plenty of at- tention lately and she can't figure out why, maybe i want to show her how much i love her? we're flying down and joining all of you there but might want to come back here if the temps are nice and warm like predicted maybe for next week janet heard 60s??? don't know if that's right or not. sandy, ana, haley, angels

storm waiting in the wings to rush on in hard on the heels from the still departing storm in extreme northern ne! we got 6" of heavy wet crap topped off by 2" of sleet which compacted down leaving us with 3-4" on the ground. now another one tomorrow to give us between 1-3" or 2-4" of fluffy stuff so here we go again followed by another on new year's eve! sandy, ana, haley, angels

what's that she says????? around holidays like christmas easter, thanksgiving what's that? she rested more or less yesterday and today will be doing the mashed potatoes, string and lima beans for tuesday's meal, and tomorrow afternoon if it's not snowing to hard pop the lasagna into the oven before she and nat go to church that is if she's not to tired or has a bad sinus headache which she has coming on due to the snow coming in tomorrow late afternoon and night then the bigger one on wed/thurs and is hoping she won't be shoveling from 4-6 instead of blogging to all our friends. sandy, ana, haley, angels

~Thursday meows from the NICE Crew~
We're actually pleased with the ease of using the 'new' CC but still have to get used to the page layouts, which are VERY different. Some of the DC dogs are whining with jealousy because their site was changed more dramatically than this one but we use both so have gotten used to it so are ignoring their growls...MOL!
Our Sammie pup is in trouble today for getting out of her area twice since yesterday afternoon. She was noticed the first time by the kids when they rolled up in the bus & she ran to greet them by trying to climb aboard, & mom just found her eating the cat food on the front porch a few minutes ago. Needless to say the dog is inside (MOL) but she's in her kennel so we've still got the run of the house until later this afternoon.
Fluffers has been annoying me all morning so my calico catitude erupted!! Every time I go to do something, there she is stalking or copying me. I tried chasing her into the bedroom but she's gotten to the point that she just flips around & runs back at me. I finally gave up & just let her follow me but she just did a vanishing act so may be napping. Well I'm going to make this short today so mom can get a few other things done around the house. Have a pawsome day everyone & have fun with the new CC!

~Going on a mouse hunt~
Shhh...I'm hunting four legged, furry creatures that can disappear in the blink of an eye if you're not quick with your paws. Those rascally rodents will not escape my grasp again if I can help it...& if I can keep Zaboo away from my hunting area. I was going to pounce on him earlier when he came to nib but he left the area before I had a chance. Lucky him...MOL!
We're still waiting for the facelift to happen on CC so will be visiting as many as I can before it happens. If you're bored & need a little excitement come on over to our house today because not only are there rodents scampering around at time but also flocks of birds in the yard that are just itching to be caught by eager paws. Oops...yes, mommy I hear you & I'll tell them...SIGH! Mommy says she'd better not see anyone hunting birds or they'll be put in time out, or worse yet, be sent to play with Sammie pup. Darn...so much for alleviating the excess population of that species...MOL!
Mom entered Joseph & Adam in the Tuxedo contest today & we happily pawed votes to all of our other friends that had already entered. There were already several pages of entries so we can't give you specific page numbers for anyone since every entry moves the current cats. Good luck to everyone that's entered or thinking about it!

Calico cylcone strikes again
Sniff, sniff...I'm wiping away tears at the heartfelt blog my sweet Zaboo posted on the CMR page #46883. He's such a loving, gentle guy & very appreciated by all of his sisters. We can overlook his Siamese catitude when it comes to the surface but his wisdom & steadfastness are what keeps all of us in line around the house, even if he does irritate us sometimes with his 'royal' catitide.
Speaking of irritation...MOL! There have been a lot of mice coming in this year even though the outside kitties have also been catching large numbers of them. I've caught 2 this week!! The first one was a big surprise for mommy because I accidentally flipped it too hard & it landed in a sink full of water. Did you know that mice don't swim well? I sure didn't but I found it out pretty quick...MOL! Mom found him floating in the sink & almost freaked out on us! Luckily it was over the weekend so dad was home to get him out...MOL! Yesterday I caught another small one but when I let him go to play for a while Zaboo grabbed him & took off running. I followed but was growled at & swatted when I tried to reclaim it when he dropped it in the living room. Needless to say the poor rodent's time was VERY limited once Zaboo's big paws started throwing him in the air so mom grabbed the broom & dustpan, scooped his nearly lifeless body up & tossed him outside. Joseph was the lucky kitty to get him so now I'm searching for more. I've been hearing one in the ceiling in the family room so that's where I've been hanging out. Fluffers is 'helping' me too since she's now acting normal again. Thank goodness that silly rolling on the floor & purring when I whack her is over so we can get back to some serious playtime! Well got to run so I can catch up all of our pages before mom decides to take a nap because it's a very rainy day. Have a pawsome Tuesday dear furiends & we'll try to visit everyone tomorrow if the new CC is up & working well.

~Happy Peanut Butter Fudge Day~
It's a wet 47 degrees outside here right now. Mom brought the silly dog back inside after her morning 'duties' were taken care of because of the rain, so we avoided the family room until a few minutes ago when she went back out to stay. Mommy said I was braver than usual when the dog was around since I went to the top of the cat tree in the entryway. Usually I run for the bedroom...MOL! For being brave & somewhat fearless Patches gave me a big kiss on the nose then played with me...woohoo! I wore her out pretty quick though...MOL! Mom calls me her energizer kitty because I go on playing even longer than Trixie does. She's taught me lots of interesting things such as hiding around corners as your prey...err playmates approach, whack & run attacks, & how to give the forgive me look to our pawents. So much to learn makes my head spin though & winds me up so tight that I don't generally take any naps until noon or later now. Guess that's why mom thinks my batteries run forever...MOL! At the moment Trixie is playing hide & seek but she's going to have to wait for me to seek her out because I got distracted by some birds outside. I can't figure out why I can see them fly up but then they disappear though. They SHOULD be right there on the ceiling but they're not so I'm running from room to room trying to figure out where they're going. Maybe they're some of those mysterious magical birds that disappear into a puff of smoke only to re-materialize someplace else? So confusing! Well I've got to go see if I can discover the secret of the birds so will meow at you again soon. ~Chilly November meows~
I'm baaaack...so get ready for a Fluffernut pouncing & tail grab...MOL! We got up to frost on the ground again this morning so mom brought Sammie back inside after her duty was done. She's outside now though because she kept whimpering & scratching at the door. She's silly to want out where it's so chilly but whatever floats her doggie boat is fine with me...as long as doesn't involve chasing one of us...MOL! Zaboo was standing in her way as mom was heading for the door with the dog but Sammie learned a long time ago not to mess with him or she takes the chance of having scratches on her nose. Patches romped with me for a few minutes this morning...yippee!! Usually she gives me 'the look' & raises her paw so I was thrilled when she chirped at me & took off running! Along the way we ran into Trixie...literally...MOL! She was standing in the hallway so Patches leaped over her but I didn't see her until it was too late & sideswiped her. She was mad at me for a few minutes but seeing me run with Patches was too much for her to watch without joining in the fun. Patches has since left the racing scene but Trixie & I are still going strong...MOL!
Note from Zaboo: Mom just got another call from the nursing home about GM. She's not doing well again so a care conference has been scheduled to see what interventions can be done for her. She has another severe UTI, is losing massive amounts of weight,is very confused, refusing to follow doctor's orders to go to hospital, & is refusing to wear her bi-pap at nights, which means her O2 sats are all over the place. Mom has a feeling they may suggest moving her to the nursing care part of the facility because she's failing so quickly so this could be a very trying time for all involved in her care.
Well I've got to get going so I can visit everyone that's dropped by our pages since last week. Have a pawsome day dear furiends & I'll meow back again when I can.
