THANKS! Normally i am just jumping all the time. it's one of my favorite things to do! never need a reason, just jump from here to there and back again, but this morning i have a reason! i rubbed my eyes and looked again and,yup,sure enough that was me in the Cat Of The Day window! the shiny new badge is beautiful but that's still not the reason. Do you know how many kitties it takes to stop by and push your votey button to make you COTD? well, i don't know the exact number either, but it's lots and lots and THAT is my reason for jumping this morning! ~Trixie's Tantalizing Animal Tales~ March 30th ~PLEASE VOTE COTD FOR LUCY #199700 TO HONOR HER BELOVED MOM’S CROSSING ON MARCH 1ST~ The sky is still dark as the kitties gather at the airport, wave good-by to their parents, & climb aboard the plane. Trixie is already aboard with her kitty sibs & as soon as everyone takes a seat & buckles in, they lift off. The pilots for our trip this week are Whiskers & Pete plus we also have the pleasure of Boo Kitty & our new kitty friend Armani as the flight attendants. We’ll be met at our destination by my dear friend Sabrina so she can show us around her city & take us to an urban paradise I know we’ll love! We’re heading toward the Golden State sweet kitties…straight to southern California & the famous SAN DIEGO ZOO!” We’ll spend the day monkeying around in the tropical oasis as we visit amazing habitats for animals such as gorillas, tigers, sun bears, flamingos, mandrills, polar bears, birds of paradise, giant tortoises, leopards… and more! We can take a Panda Trek to visit the giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat, go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California & see a herd of Asian elephants. We can also enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or an aerial view from Skyfari, plus we can dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert’s Restaurant & see animals up close in the Children's Zoo. It will be great to discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, & keeper presentations! A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience. Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years & is open 365 days a year. Located adjacent to downtown San Diego in Balboa Park, the Zoo is 100 acres in size and is home to more than 4,000 animals representing more than 800 species from around the world. The Zoo will be a unique walking experience that exhibits animals in the most natural way possible, adding shows & animal presentations throughout the day for additional enjoyment. The San Diego Zoo also offers a variety of education programs & tons of other fun things! We’ll be arriving when it opens & will stay until it closes at 7pmPT! After we leave Sabrina has recommended Anthony’s Star of the Sea for our dining pleasure. It’s perched over the sparkling waters of San Diego Bay & should have that soothing sleepy atmosphere we’ll need so we can make it back home to get ready for the coronation ceremony at 3pmET (noon PT) tomorrow. Buckle back up kitties because we’re landing. ~Trixie's Tantalizing Animal Tales~ March 29th I’m on the final lap of my catpaign sweet kitty furiends yet my cyclonic spins are still going strong thanks to your loving & generous support! Thank you for pouncing by with your comments on the critically endangered animals I presented yesterday plus the votes you pawed my way!! Today I’ll wrap up the top 5 list of these beautiful creatures that inhabit our planet that could use help to save their species & don’t forget that you can see their pics in my gallery! ~JAVAN RHINOS~ Javan rhinos were killed by trophy hunters during colonial times. They were also killed as agricultural pests and for their horn, a highly prized commodity in traditional Asian medicine. Indonesia is home to the only population of Javan rhinos left on the planet. Only about 40 of these rhinos exist there, making the Javan rhino one of the rarest mammals in the world. The population in Ujung Kulon National Park represents the only hope for the survival of a species that is on the brink of extinction. Until the late 19th century and early 20th century, Javan rhinos existed from northeast India and the Sunderbans , throughout mainland Southeast Asia, and on the island of Sumatra. If we lose the population in Java, the entire species will disappear. ~HAWKSBILL TURTLE~ Hawksbills are named for their narrow, pointed beak. They also have a distinctive pattern of overlapping scales on their shells that form a serrated-look on the edges. These colored and patterned shells make them highly-valuable and commonly sold as "tortoiseshell" in markets. Hawksbills help maintain the health of coral reefs. As they remove prey such as sponges from the reef's surface, they provide better access for reef fish to feed. Like other marine turtles, hawksbills are threatened by the loss of nesting and feeding habitats, excessive egg-collection, fishery-related mortality, pollution, and coastal development. However, they are most threatened by illegal wildlife trade. ~VAQUITA~ Vaquitas are most often found close to shore in the Gulf's shallow waters, although they quickly swim away if a boat approaches. Rare and elusive, this little porpoise wasn't discovered until 1958 & little is actually known about them. Vaquitas have natural predators such as sharks, but their main threat is from the fishing industry. They often die after being caught in gillnets, a problem known as bycatch. The Vaquita is the most endangered cetacean in the world with fewer than 200 left & the species may go extinct without further protective measures. Okay sweet kitties…Today & tomorrow I’ll be meowing to you about the 5 most critically endangered species of animals on earth to wrap up my catpaign & you can see their pics in my gallery. These creatures can use all the help they can get to preserve their way of life so they can continue to grace our planet with their presence. Please note that the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) has sponsored many animals in over 100 countries for nearly half a century & gladly accepts donations for specific species if you want to help (worldwildlife.org). WWF fights to secure a future for animals on the planet we all share but their work is far from done, and WWF constantly strives to protect the species we all care about. ~LEATHERBACK TURTLE~ Leatherback turtles are named for their shell, which is leather-like rather than hard like other turtles. They are the largest marine turtle species and also one of the most migratory, crossing both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Although their distribution is wide, numbers of leatherback turtles have seriously declined during the last century as a result of intense egg collection and fisheries bycatch. Though the species has survived for over 100 million years, these marine turtles are now on the brink of extinction because many of their offspring won't be able to reach maturity due to numerous threats including fishing practices and pollution. ~MAGELLANIC PENGUIN~ Penguins are a family of 17 to 19 species of birds that live primarily in the Southern Hemisphere. They include the tiny blue penguins of Australia and New Zealand, the majestic emperor penguins of Antarctica and king penguins found on many sub- Antarctic islands, the endangered African penguin and the Galápagos penguin—the only penguin to be found north of the equator. Climate change is again the reason why this species is threatened to disappear. The migration of fish caused by warming currents makes it harder for them to find food and could result in the extinction of the Magellanic penguin. The Antarctic Peninsula, where half of the world’s emperor penguins and 70% of the Adelie penguins can be found, is heating up faster than the global average and melting the sea ice that the penguins depend on for places to breed and access to food. ~Caturday meows from the NICE Crew~ Hi dear furiends, Sorry we've been MIA for the last few days but mom has been working on thank you notes to people that sent cards, flowers, etc. for GM's funeral last month. That isn't going very fast either because she stops to read each one & gets the teary eyed depression going on. She says it's hard to get back into a 'normal' routine after last month but she's working on it! She's also been trying to talk to a stray kitty that's been hanging around the last couple of days. He (for lack of actually knowing yet) is a beautiful long haired golden kitty that acts terrified of everything around him. Today he took his first step in coming when the others were called for breakfast so she's hoping he'll realize that he's among kitty lovers & has nothing to fear. Joseph is being a little pushy with him by growling when he gets too close but that's kind of understandable since he's the self proclaimed ruler of the great outdoors around here. The good thing about Joseph being the 'ruler' is that he's more growl than action so don't think he'll cause too many issues once he gets used to the idea. We have no idea where he came from or how he got here but we're glad he stumbled into our yard (actually camps out in the barn) since the weather has been so bitterly cold. Before I know it mom will have that strange kitty smell on her again & I'll have to give her 'the look' though...MOL! Speaking of the look! Fluffinella has become my constant shadow, whether I want her to be or not! If I hear a mouse & jump to the top of the cat condo to check it out so does she. Mom says I should be flattered that she wants to mimic my every move but sometimes a girl needs her private space to meditate so I have to whack her ears & leave the room at light speed to evade her. When she can't find me then she locates Patches or Zaboo. Patches plays with her sometimes but Zaboo tries to pretend she's not there...which never works...MOL! He finally ends up holding her down & cleaning her ears or face to make her rethink bothering him. Well got to run for now so I can help little bro defeat one of his new video games. ☃ Time to build a snowman ☃ We got more snow last night while we were sleeping & it's still flurring as mom types this for me. Light snow will taper off to flurries as highs top out around 30 degrees. Tonight the clouds are supposed to break and temps fall into the teens. Monday night into Tuesday another round of light accumulating snow is possible. Bitter cold air is on the way by Wednesday morning temps will only be around 10 degrees! Nothing like ringing in the New Year wearing our winter woolies...MOL! It sounds like Sammie dog will be staying inside again the first part of the week so Fluffers & I had better get our orneriness out of us this weekend while she's out building her snow-fort by her dog house! That silly dog puts her entire head into snow drifts sometimes & has the goofiest look on her face when she pulls it out. Guess being born in the winter makes her like the cold white stuff but not this winter baby...MOL! I prefer to watch it from the comfort of the window where I won't get my paws wet or take a chance of getting frost on my whiskers! Mom is counting the days until the kids go back to school...MOL! They've been pretty good but they're starting to annoy each other since they've been stuck in the house together for over a week & that generally leads to arguments in the near future. Speaking of arguing...MOL! Fluffers & I had a slight disagreement last night when we both wanted to snuggle in the same spot next to mom. I whacked her but she actually whacked me back! Shocking behavior isn't it? Not to worry folks because I've already started getting even today with a good game of hide & whack...err, I mean hide & seek...MOL! We've about worn ourselves out though because we've been doing it since 6am. In fact we even woke the dog up early. OOPS...sorry about that mom...MOL! Well got to run so mom can start taking down some of the Christmas decorations but she did tell me that since December was rather chaotic for my blogging that I could do next month too. Woohoo...MOL! ~Twas the Night Before Christmas-NICE kitty style~ It was a very long & busy weekend for my family so mom is trying to get organized before the big day tomorrow, plus she still has to bake cookies for Santa Paws & finish wrapping a few of the kids' gifts. Needless to say this means our visit must be short & sweet so I thought I'd share my version of the famous Christmas poem & leave your gift of soft treats tucked inside a glittering Christmas Eve vote. Purrs, Trixie & NICE Crew ************************************ Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, Four kitties were stalking one small stirring mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, and the smallest cat of all was hiding in there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, As a kitty got ready to dance across their fair heads. With mom in her jammies and I in my fleece, Had just settled our brains & settled down to sleep. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tripping over some cat toys I fell with a crash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below. When, what to my wondering eyes did appear, But a miniature sleigh, pulled by mice dressed like reindeer. With a little old driver, with long flowing fur, Dressed just like Santa but with a melodious purr. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name! "Now Dinky! now, Dropsy! now, Pouncemeat and Snack! On, Morsel! On, Squeaky! on Nibbles and BigMac! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now scurry away! Scurry away! Scurry away all!" I giggled as I watched this display fly away, But it made my heart happy, carefree & gay. ~Purrs of appreciation from the NICE Crew~ This is Zaboo & we're back, although it will take us a little while to catch up with all of you! Words cannot express the appreciation our entire family has for our extended CC & DC families for being there to help us through the last week after losing GM. The funeral service was purrfect & we could feel her smiling down as her friend & minister told about her life & her spirit now flying free with the other angels. Mom says it's not felt a lot like the holidays around our house with everything going on so today she's got Christmas tunes playing in the background & will attempt to regain some of the joyous spirit of the season that has escaped her so far. GM was big on Christmas celebrations so we know she would want mom to cheer up & enjoy the holidays with the rest of the family,therefore we're putting our best paw forward & will strive to get into the Christmas spirit. Big youngest sis is coming over to watch the kids on Friday so that mom & dad can finish their shopping since it was put on hold. Well I'd better get my tail moving if I want to clean up our pages today. I found a poem I'd like to share with you but I'd like to meow thank you again for being there with your sweet words, loving hugs, prayers, & friendly support. ~THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE~ God put people in your life for a reason Some for a while and some for a season But with you I know it’s for a lifetime Because your friendship and love is hard to find You never judge or look down on me And you see things in me I would never see And that’s the way a friendship is suppose to be I say my prayers and thank him for you Because without you I don’t know what I’d do I know you be tired and you have your own life But you’re still there for me without malice or strife You’re my strength when I can’t take it anymore all I have to do is knock on your door You’ll stop whatever your doing to see about me And what you some people would charge a fee This poem is to let you know That I really appreciate you And to let you know that I love you too But most of all it’s just my way of saying THANK YOU! Calico cylcone strikes again WOW...I think it's pawsome that you've got a gerbil to harrass. Mom won't get us anything fun like that to play with but after you read my blog today you may understand why...MOL! Sniff, sniff...I'm wiping away tears at the heartfelt blog my sweet Zaboo posted on the CMR page #46883. He's such a loving, gentle guy & very appreciated by all of his sisters. We can overlook his Siamese catitude when it comes to the surface but his wisdom & steadfastness are what keeps all of us in line around the house, even if he does irritate us sometimes with his 'royal' catitide. Speaking of irritation...MOL! There have been a lot of mice coming in this year even though the outside kitties have also been catching large numbers of them. I've caught 2 this week!! The first one was a big surprise for mommy because I accidentally flipped it too hard & it landed in a sink full of water. Did you know that mice don't swim well? I sure didn't but I found it out pretty quick...MOL! Mom found him floating in the sink & almost freaked out on us! Luckily it was over the weekend so dad was home to get him out...MOL! Yesterday I caught another small one but when I let him go to play for a while Zaboo grabbed him & took off running. I followed but was growled at & swatted when I tried to reclaim it when he dropped it in the living room. Needless to say the poor rodent's time was VERY limited once Zaboo's big paws started throwing him in the air so mom grabbed the broom & dustpan, scooped his nearly lifeless body up & tossed him outside. Joseph was the lucky kitty to get him so now I'm searching for more. I've been hearing one in the ceiling in the family room so that's where I've been hanging out. Fluffers is 'helping' me too since she's now acting normal again. Thank goodness that silly rolling on the floor & purring when I whack her is over so we can get back to some serious playtime! Well got to run so I can catch up all of our pages before mom decides to take a nap because it's a very rainy day. Have a pawsome Tuesday dear furiends & we'll try to visit everyone tomorrow if the new CC is up & working well. Hi Zoey & family, Thanks for the birthday wishes and then coming ... to celebrate my COTD award. Geez, the performance at the castle was really the icing on my cake. I do sort of have a hangover and my head is a bit fuzzy, that Led Zepplin song keeps going around in my head..Groovin... a whole lotta love..a whole lotta love.. Well, I felt a whole lotta love when I won COTD & Zachary didn't... Some of you may remember last year, Zachary Pierre got COTD on our birthday, he told everyone on CC that I took his Harley and went joy riding around CC while he did his birthday thank you's. Well, Sister Zoe hasn't done so bad, she is leader of a cool motorcycle gang, doing hair raising stunts at the castle and all Zachary Pierre is doing is chashing his Mama Girl around and playing games.. NA na NA na ZACHARY, I beat you fair and square..... Shhh, Don't tell him but I do adore that brother of mine, Like King Steve's sidekicks, we have always been together just like peanut butter & jelly.I'm gonna rat that brother of mine out and tell you how much Mom & I love him, our pet name for him is Zackie Poo... Ha Ha Ha Ha.. Sorry Zachary Pierre but I warned you this day would come....Payback's a pain in the tail ....... Thank you for coming by to celebrate two days of partying with me. I had a great time and was even visited by the Hairballz Rainbow Riders.. ~Happy December 1st~ Are you ready for the calico catitude to invade your quiet abodes? Well I'm ready to dish some out...MOL! Living with Fluffinella is..well...interesting! Some days we get along great but there are time when I don't want her to shadow my every move. I know she's learning but geesh...give me a little purrsonal space! It's actually a good thing that her month of blogging is over because last night she kicked into 'big girl' mode & has been rolling around the floor driving all of us bonkers. Mom says her surgery will have to wait until after the holidays though unless that's what we want as our Christmas gift. No way I want to give up any new toys so don't worry mom because I'll whack her back in line as often as I can...MOL! Sorry to say this but I have to make it short today because mom & dad have a lot to do this weekend but I'll be back in full cyclone mode early next week.
