How We Met

Louisa Nibbles arrived fully dressed in a big, heavy gown way too large for her. GTt striped that off and revealed her beautiful light blond felt- soft body.
She has not asked yet to return her dress until it gets really cold outside, so she may get other costumes... like this highly attractive pink scarf.

A bouquet of flowers brightens the day!!

***"Happiness held is the seed; Happiness shared is the flower." - John Harrigan

Supplies:
4 White Carnations
2 Plastic Black Shank Buttons - if you can find an oval shape even better
1 Plastic Yellow Shank Button
1 Sheet of White Craft Foam
Black Card Stock
Fabric Glue
Straight Pins
Tape
Green Floral Tape
Floral Wire
Red Ribbon

Place button wires into the flowers to create the face (make sure they're secure). You might need to trim the wire a little so your buttons sit flat on top of the flowers. I also recommend looking at a Hello Kitty image to get the nose and eye spacing correct.

Tie a traditional red bow and trim off tales. Attach a floral wire to bow. Cut two rounded triangles from the white foam for ears. You'll want the ears to be slightly bigger opposed to proportionate. Glue one of the ears on the back of the bow. Tape the other ear to the floral wire. The wire should be 6" in length.

Situate ears at the top of the bouquet. You will need to bend the ears back about 90 degrees. The flowers should cover part of the foam ears (this is why we made them larger). With floral tape, wrap wire and stems to secure in place.

Last are the whiskers. Cut 6 thin strips of black card stock measuring 2" in length. Pin three strips to each side of the face inside the flowers using straight pins. You now have a Hello Kitty Bouquet. For more color surround it with other flowers or wrap it in cellophane and tissue paper.

"I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance."
~William Wordsworth, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, 1804

Cat "arrested" for break-in Brazilian prison
There are paw-prints all over the scene of the "crime" for its part in an apparent jail break attempt. This feline's life of crime is now over.

The incident took place at New Year. A smuggling cat has been detained in the grounds of a jail in Brazil with contraband goods for prisoners strapped to its body with tape. They found a mobile phone, charger, headphones and tools. Officials said the items could be used to effect a means of escape or for communicating with criminals on the outside.

The white cat was apprehended crossing the main prison gate. The incident took place at a jail in Arapiraca city, 250km (155 miles) south-west of Recife in Alagoas state.

The cat had apparently been trained to assist in high-profile prison breaks, and had been seen coming in and out of the jail multiple times prior to its arrest.
The jail holds some 263 prisoners.

There are no leads in the case. All of the prisoners are suspects in the case, but it’ll be hard to get any forward-momentum in the investigation. A prison spokesperson stated: "It's tough to find out who's responsible for the action as the cat doesn't speak."

LIVING as if we only had one year left to LIVE
Another inspiring biography ...
Novelist and critic John "Anthony Burgess" Wilson (1917-1993) got frustrated by the literary scene and left England. He took a teaching position in Malaya. Living abroad inspired Burgess' writing. He published three unsuccessful novels.
In 1959, he began to suffer from severe headaches and was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. The doctor told him he only had one year to live. He returned home to earn money to provide for his widow. Instead of feeling miserable, he had a new sense of purpose.
He wrote: "I had been granted something I had never had before: a whole year to live. I would not be run over by a bus tomorrow, nor knifed on the Brighton racetrack. I would not choke on a bone. If I fell in the wintry sea, I would not drown. I had a whole year, a long time. In that year I had to earn for my prospective widow. ... I would have to turn myself into a professional writer." “What I do I do because I like to do.”
Burgess wrote five novels in the year he believed to be his last. He proceeded to live for another 33 more years after the inaccurate assessment of his condition.
In 1962, he published "A Clockwork Orange". Stanley Kubrick adapted the book into a highly controversial film. Between 1970 and 1980 Burgess published around 30 books.
He was an accomplished musician and linguist. He died from lung cancer. At his death he was a multi-millionaire, leaving a Europe-wide property portfolio of houses and apartments.

Perseverance: the foundation of all actions. L Tzu
A few more days until 2013, I wish you and your lovely family ... happiness, prosperity, good health and the very best of everything life can bring.

Mystery writer Mary Higgins Clark's books have sold more than 80 million copies in the U.S., and millions more around the world was born on December 24, 1927.
She grew up in the Bronx during the Depression to Irish parents. When her dad and two brothers died, her mom lost the house. She worked as a babysitter, as a hotel switchboard operator, a secretary, a Pan Am flight attendant before marrying at age 22. When her husband died, she had 5 children to support. To make ends meet, she wrote four-minute-long radio scripts. Before her kids woke up, she sat at the typewriter and wrote short stories — her true passion. She sent them off to magazines, and she got back dozens of rejection slips.
Encouragement came after her historical novel about George Washington. She followed it with a suspense novel inspired by the time that her three-year-old child had gone missing briefly near a deep lake. In 1974, she sold it to a publisher for a modest $3000. Three months later, she found out the paperback rights to the book had sold for $100,000.
Her second suspense novel sold for $1.5 million, and soon she was being paid $12 million per story. Each one of her suspense novels has been a best-seller. She earned a philosophy degree from Fordham University in 1979.

Monopoly of life:a lucky break just when U need it
A rags to riches tale:
On December 31, 1935, the game Monopoly was patented by Charles Darrow, an unemployed engineer in Germantown, Pennsylvania. He struggled with odd jobs to support his family in the years following the great stock market crash of 1929.
This fascinating story of corporate intrigue begins with the 30-year old, The Landlord's Game. It had a lot of the familiar Monopoly features like a "Go to Jail" square and utilities and properties for purchase. With his free time, Darrow modified it, basing his rental properties on his favorite resort town, Atlantic City.
Parker Brothers, at first, turned down Charles Darrow, explaining that his game contained "fifty-two fundamental errors" including: the game took too long to play, the rules were too complicated and there was no clear goal for the winner.
Parker Brothers later offered Charles Darrow royalties, on each new version of Monopoly sets sold. This generous deal made him a millionaire.
In 1970, a few years after Darrow's death, Atlantic City erected a commemorative plaque in his honor. It stands on the Boardwalk, near the corner of Park Place.

A time for new beginnings - 6 days until 2013
***Tick Tock by Joanna Fuchs
I’m writing this in a state of shock,
Watching the clock—tick tock, tick tock,
Advancing, approaching, relentlessly,
A brand new year; Oh, can it be?

The calendar says the same thing, too;
Time races, vanishes for me; Boo hoo!
No, wait! If time flies, I’m having fun!
A year of fun! It’s gone! It’s done!

I now embrace the blur of time,
Because it simply means that I’m
Too busy with MY KITTY, joy, delight
To mourn the passing days’ swift flight.

So I’m wishing you fast, happy days,
Pleasuring you in myriad ways,
Filled with happiness and cheer,
Oh Happy, Happy Bright New Year!
*~~~~~* *~~~~~~~~~~* *~~~~~* *~~~~~~~~~~*
***People & FELINES Like You by Joanna Fuchs
A brand new year!
A clean slate on which to write
our hopes and dreams.
This year:
Less time and energy on things;
More time and energy on people.
All of life’s best rewards,
deepest and finest feelings,
greatest satisfactions,
come from people--
people AND FELINES like you.
Happy New Year!

The Nutcracker Ballet
On December 17, 1892, The Nutcracker ballet premiered in St. Petersburg, Russia. Critics and audience thought it a failure; it was not an instant success.
The adaptation by Alexandre Dumas (1802–1870) was based on The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by Ernst Theodor Wilhelm Hoffman (1776-1822).
The score was composed by Peter Tchaikovsky, commissioned by mastermind choreographer Marius Petipa. Tchaikovsky died less than a year later.
The ballet was first performed in the United States in 1944. The Nutcracker has become a classic — many people consider it the most popular ballet in the world.
.......................*****.....................
Mom simply loved seeing her niece's ballet performances for all those special ten Decembers, meow-arvelous and magical memories to remember. Our adorable Sarah played different characters, beginning as a mouse, followed by a flower, a plum fairy and other dancers with enormous grace. How fast time goes, like a blink of an eye.

Hi Auntie Louise!
I got my red winter scarf on now. Well, um, actually I had to "borrow" it from a pretty rough field mouse, as you can see from that shiner I got! But it was worth it! And that black eye is all gone now, as you can see in my other picture. I have my little song book out and am ready to go caroling. I'm a regular little choir boy! SOL!

Hi Aunt Louise!
Thank you for the long letter! Mom thinks she might get a long letter from Cat Channel soon. She didn't tell me why. I probably wouldn't understand anyway.

She says when they did the changes on DC all the blogs and scrapbooks were lost. After nearly 2 months they did manage to return the blogs, in something called "archives". Mom hates it, because all the blogs are there that were on her profile when they made thew changes, but she can't delete anything in it! She doesn't want ALL the old blogs. *sigh*

They never did replace the scrapbooks. Anything that was in them is lost forever I guess. Mom didn't have a scrapbook there. But she knows that on the FB page some people were told to save anything they might want, just in case the new CC "accidentally" erases or deletes stuff. Don't you think everyone should be told? And not just the "special" people on FB? Mom thinks so. So I'm telling you. You can tell PD. And he can tell your mom. :)

Squeaking of mom, she put a few new pictures of my mousey kins on our page. One of me and cousin Tidbit playing in some twigs, and one of me pushing little Bitty on a sled. The big guy is a neighbor, older mouse, looks out for us youngsters once in awhile. He seems okay. Nice to have a little muscle around, ya know? :)

I better get back now, I don't want to leave any mouse droppings on the keyboard. Mom hates when that happens. And I know she knows it's not the "computer mouse" that did it!

Addition:
How many strokes

Does it take to prove

Geometry:
is any amount of bare space
Shining at the bottom of the food bowl
Acceptable?

And how do you prove the negative
To humans?

Calculus:
Jump too close
And the parabola will be still ascending

Where their tangent
Should be level
Landing without lift or fall.

Jump too far
And the parabola will be descending

Meow Words By Cheryl Wheeler

Straightenin' out your back legs, stretching in my arms
Yawning, blinking, curling back around
Your dismissive glances slap me back somehow
Meow, meow, meow

Sleepin' on the big bed, the sultan slips the scene
Chasing something running in your dream
I am so enchanted, with your twitch and growl
Meow, meow, meow
I see you in Memphis on the Nile in the spring
Swinging through some palace doing your Egyptian king thing
You perceive my function, 24 a day
Is to do, for you, anything you say
Where'd you get that notion? How come I kowtow?

New for me ... first time hearing this oldie
"...And The Mouse Police Never Sleeps" by Jethro Tull

Muscled, black with steel-green eye
swishing through the rye grass
with thoughts of mouse-and-apple pie.
Tail balancing at half-mast.

...And the mouse police never sleeps ---
lying in the cherry tree.
Savage bed foot-warmer
Of purest feline ancestry.

Look out, little furry folk!
He's the all-night working cat.
Eats but one in every ten ---
leaves the others on the mat.

...And the mouse police never sleeps ---
waiting by the cellar door.
Window-box town crier;
birth and death registrar.

With claws that rake a furrow red ---
licensed to mutilate.
From warm milk on a lazy day
to dawn patrol on hungry hate.

...No, the mouse police never sleeps ---
climbing on the ivy.
Windy roof-top weathercock.
Warm-blooded night on a cold tile.

See the video and sing along to these lyrics
The lead video of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is riveting. The song, released in 1970, remains current.

"Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying:
Valhalla, I am coming!

On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.

Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords.

On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.

So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing.

Really?
You gnawed a fireplace into the corner of the closet? Does Gracie know? Doesn't the smoke make the clothes smell funny? Or is an empty closet? Those are the best kind really. Or a closet with only junk in it. Mouse heaven!

Um, Auntie Louise, that's not a football, it's an acorn! Granted, an enormous acorn! But maybe you need to clean your glasses. Or wear them even. Just sayin'... SOL! :)

Thank you for this honor on this magical Monday!!
“Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake.” (Henry David Thoreau) What an immense surprise and joy to be selected "Cat of the Day"!

We enjoy reading every one of your notes. Mom loves sharing uplifting poems that inspire the soul, quotes with nuggets of wisdom, all things that can brighten a day and bring smiles to every recipient.

We are so proud to be a member of Cat-Channel, a tremendous welcoming community. Mom and I greatly appreciate your friendship.

Hi From Dasher
Hi Mrs. Louise Nibbles,

You sure are a cute sidekick. Sorry that Gracie T-t ripped off your gown but at least you still have your HEAD! My sister Sparkles loves her sidekick so much that you might say she “loved it to death”. That poor tiger no longer has the bell on its tail but that’s a minor problem for the tiger compared to what happened next. Now it no longer even has a HEAD!! Mom thinks she may find the head under something when we move. At least she didn't find the head on her pillow (like in the Godfather movie). Not sure what she’s talking about there. She said something about a horse’s head. Sounds pretty gross to me. Anyway. Sparkles carries this headless tiger around with her all the time. Mom is constantly finding it in Sparkles’ food dish or in her water bowl. Not sure what that’s all about. I guess we’ll have to check with Sparkles on that peculiar behavior. So that’s Sparkles’ sidekick. Mom has tried to replace the headless tiger with a new stuffed animal but Sparkles will have none of it. She always goes back to her favorite tiger. Go figure.

Here's a vote. BTW, Sparkles left a note on Gracie T-'s page about the golf league.

Farewell to falling leaves
The Fall Almost Nobody Sees by David Budbill

Everybody's gone away.
They think there's nothing left to see.
The garish colors' flashy show is over.
Now those of us who stay
hunker down in sweet silence,
blessed emptiness among

red-orange shadblow
purple-red blueberry
copper-brown beech
gold tamarack, a few
remaining pale yellow
popple leaves,
sedge and fern in shades
from beige to darkening red
to brown to almost black,
and all this in front of, below,
among blue-green spruce and fir
and white pine,

all of it under gray skies,
chill air, all of us waiting
in the somber dank and rain,
waiting here in quiet, chill
November,
waiting for the snow.

Hey Louise!
I keep forgetting to tell you to come over and see little Nibbles in his Halloween costume. And the Nibbles family is all gathered for their big fall festival. They told me to ask you to bring acorns...? Hope you know what they mean. Happy headbonks to you.

Hi Gracie Twinkle Toes
The Tabby cat is the Mother of the black kitten. She also has a younger litter. Mom will get her spayed if she can catch her. She is a wild as a squirrel. Mom is socializing the kittens. They stay in our feral house. It is warm and dry and cats have lived there in comfort for decades. Mom would like to bring them in, but she says that since I am such a purrfect cat and have never caused trouble, she does not want to stress me.

Hi Mrs. Nibbles
aka Louise. We were happy to learn your "nude" photo was only removed because of its un-catlikeness, and not obscenity! Otherwise, we'd ALL have to start dressing up like Pig! Hahaaa!
