~Queen Trixie's final day in 'office'~ April 30th
Hello & happy Tuesday every kitty! This is the last day that I’ll be meowing to you from the Queen’s chair so my big sis & head chef, Patches, has whipped up a banquet that will amaze your senses & tantalize your taste buds as my way of thanking all the sweet kitties that pounced by this month. At dawn tomorrow we’ll be vacating the cabin with our royal mementos & will say farewell to the beautiful wooded area that I've called my home for an entire month. All kitties that have visited are suggested to make sure everything they brought along has been reclaimed because once I pack away the royal gowns I’ll no longer be responsible for my actions & anything missing may never be seen by you again...MOL...but until then I must remain as dignified as possible & therefore I call my royal criers forth & hand them the final royal decree to announce:

~*~This gala event will be held at the HONEYWELL CENTER in Wabash, IN in the Honeywell Room (see pics in my gallery) & will be followed by a roller skating party at their skating rink, where music, skates & the use of the party room are all included. All food will be provided by Honeywell’s famous catering service so come hungry & loosen up those leg muscles for a day of roller skating fun as I say Bon Voyage to royal duties!!~*~

*Formal dress is optional for the coronation ceremony but I highly recommend a change of comfortable clothes for skating if you plan to stay for the party afterward.*

After the pawty is over it’s just a short 14 miles to my home where I’ll unpack & settle back into civilian life with happy, cherished memories to dream about while I take a short break from the blogging scene. ♥ Thank you for Honoring my little PAPPOOSE #10366 with making her win her First Forever Sleep COTD today 4/25/2013!!!

♥ It's true to what you say about how fast the year went, but not to me!!! It seems like Pappoose has been gone way longer than only a year!!! Yes, I have wonderful memories of my little girl.

♥ Pappoose was a very Ladylike girl as when walking in the grass she would walk with such grace that it looked like she tip toed through the grass. She was a petite girl and had several friends and family who also fell in love with her. Yes, my sweet Pappoose captured many hearts♥ not just here at home, but also our CC friends!!! She never got on the counters and rarely on the kitchen table. She was the best well-mannered kitty!!!

♥ When Pappoose first became an inside girl, Rhoamin 2921 took her in being the greatest fur brother to her. He played with her and they got along so well. Heck, Pappoose got along with all the kitties xcept for Sassee 10605 and Callie 239447. Those two bullied her til she was terrified. She wasn't too keen being around our dog Carly, but she put up with her.

♥ MEMORIES, Yes, I have beautiful and fun memories playing with and loving the sweetest little girl a momma could want!!! We also miss our other friends who went to their Forever Sleep in the matter of days like Anna 50686; Callie 89317 & Baby 8574.

Your fur does not look all that long in your mew profile photo. When GTt had her BG surgery it took a few months for the fur to return but over a year before she would let mom rub her tummy or tickle her.
I am vad at mom right now. Do you see that profile photo she just posted? It was of me last night sitting on the raised bed edge in the garden. The other two cats do NOT hang over the edge. It seems that I have gained weight in my bellies.
Now mom is not happy about this and a mew strict diet has gone into effect as of today 4/23/
You do not have this problem but as a 10 year old tom she thinks I should look sleek and trim like Uncle Buddy Budd who is 12 years old.
I'll go take my morning nap now.. before the noon nap and afternoon, pre-evening and evening naps followed by bed time.
You an an excellent kitty and so is your sweet sister. Take good care of yourselves. When you get a chance tell Shelby she has done enough kitten producing and last time was not so easy. She should ask for her BG surgery too and you can tell her all about it.

showery and cooler day coming up after 3 days into the 70s and we're wishing the warmer stuff would just come and stay! only lower 50s heavy showers today with a mixture kitchen sinker in higher elevations tomorrow with upper 40s and heavy cold rain here. nice through thurs with more rain next week through saturday. janet's hoping it will dry out as more weeding has to be done as well as yard work. sandy,ana,haley,angels

We heard you were getting your big girl surgery this week and wanted to stop and say Well Done! ALL of our kitties have been there and done that, and we are all so happy to have it over. But are VERY happy Mom and Dad did the responsible thing, too. You will be fine, and you'll never have to get tied down with *shudder* babies like I did when I was dumped off outside.

guess what?
they do come from chickens, but janet and nat decorated this tree which also gets decorations on christmas unless it's deep with snow, then they don't bother as it's to hard to get to. she did have eggs down on the grass, but picked them up due to the snow we did have before it all melted away earlier on this week and now more crocuses are in bloom in a former flower garden on the top of the north lawn and more sticks appearing on the front lawn with tullies and daffies coming up there to bloom next month! sandy, ana, haley, angels

Nah...we can just hot wax a little spot. Kind of like a polka dot. It will be a fashion statement soon...just you watch. To tell you the truth,I never did get the whole color the egg thing either. Hi all yall, well as for those of u that know me pretty good, specially u king mikey, I can just bet u are a wondering when I am gonna get on this subject. Well here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I cant tell yall how to construct a still cause I might get the revenoors on me. But I can tell u a few ways to hide one.

Hiding the still:
Since cold water is an absolute necessity, stills are often highup on the side of a mountain near the source of a stream. Water on the north side of a hill flowing west was preferred by many. Some count on the inaccessibiblty of the spot the choose for protection. Others however:

Build a log shed over the still and cover this with evergreen branches.
Bend living saplings over so they conceal the still. The branches continue growing and their leaves provide cover.
Find a tree that has fallen over a raving or gully and build the still under it, add branches if necessary for additional coverage.
Find a ravine, dig out its bottom, place the still in and then set branches and saplings over the top like a roof. They should be arranged so that they clend in with the landscape
Find a large laurel thicket, crawl into the center of it and cut out a room right in the middle of the thicket big enough for the still.
Find a large spruce and put the still under its branches so it cant be seen from a plane.
Find a cave and cover the opening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The legend has grown that all one has to do to find a still is follow a likely looking branch up into a cove and then poke around until uncovering something suspicious, like a black water pipe. Moonshiners have countered by locating many stills in so-called dry hollers. They find a cove that has no stream and pipe in the water they need from a higher wet cove,

~Friday has arrived~
Which means that mom will only have the use of her Jeep for the weekend before it gets taken to the shop for the repairs it needs from dad's accident last month. She got some good mews from the insurance company that their rates won't raise because the accident was forgiven so she's happy about that because they thought it would. Dad is trying to take 1/2 day off from work on Monday so he can pick mom up when she drops it off. Mom agreed that it was an excellent idea so that she didn't have to ask dad's 80+ yr old parents to get out in the cold to do it. Speaking of cold...we're saying prayers for everyone in the path of the snowstorm hitting the eastern states & hope the total amounts they keep predicting are wrong. It seems like our eastern furiends are being picked on by Mother Nature the last few months but hopefully with spring just around the corner things will improve.
It's a cold 34 & very windy day here with gray skies. Sammie dog is outside at the moment but mom will be bringing her in shortly since she's not used to being in the cold for too long. She was super active last night so I had to give her 'the look' along with a long meow to let her know that I wasn't going to play. She respected my wishes & tried to nudge Patches but she scampered up the cat tree. It's amazing how fast our chunky Patches can move when she want to...MOL! Fluffinella never goes near the dog & Trixie has been banned to the bedroom when she's out because she torments her by doing a swat & run. Well, that plus she also torments her when she's in her kennel by dropping things on her head...MOL!
Well I've got to run so mom can bring the dog in & get a few more things done before dad & kids are home for the weekend.

Two frosts and lots of rain mean cold weather is near
A late frost means a bad winter
For every frost of fog in august, there will be a snowy day in winter
At least three severe fogs in June or July mean early snow
If it snows crosslegged, it will be a deep one
If the first snow stays on the ground for three days, another snow will come on top of it
If it frosts before November 23. It will be a bad winter
Lots of low rolling thunder in the late fall means a bad winter
A long hot summer means a long cold winter—the hotter the summer, the colder the winter

FORCASTING WINTER BY FIRE

When u build a fire outside and it pops, it will snow in three days
If a fire “tramps” snow conimg down the chimney (in other words, if noises are coming from the chimney that sounds like boots swishing through deep, dry snow) it will be a deep snow
It will be a hard winter if smoke from the chimney flows toward or settles on the ground. It will snow within 26 days.
It it’s cloudy and smoke rises, there is a chance of snow

FORCASTING BY THE MOON

The number of days old the moon is at first snow tells how many snows there will be that winter.

well here i am back from gma's finally. gma is doing okay but still having lots of pain from her bad back.
we went the 50 miles down to the hospital to see gpa, he is not on the respirator any longer, but will barely eat, only a few bites. well on with our day.

Everyone looks all snuggly and comfortable.Don't tease me Baby Frost...I'll believe it will be fifty when I see fifty. Weathermen lie! It would be great after the deep freeze this week. Gma and Gpa are going to Florida for a weekend in February. Gma is REALLY hoping the weather holds out then so they can make it down and back without cancellations from the weather. I can't believe how grown up you look!!! NICE picture! I go thru the whole whisker thing too. Long,short,long,short. Depends what I was doing..they do grow pretty quick in the summer for some reason.
Dontcha just hate when the phone batteries go dead? See,there you were all happy and ready for your photo shoot,and ...dead batteries. Bummer :)

1/17/13 Happy Thursday from Barney and all
Getting a later start here. Mom was so tired, we just had to give her an extra hour. Luckily the dogs cooperated an slept an hour more too. The temp here is down to 9 degrees and expected to drop to 4, before going the other way for a brief time.

Well, yesterday you got the first part of Molly's story. She was rescued from under a porch in a rough neighborhood. We forgot to mention that she also had an injured eye, which we do not know if it was an accident or abuse, but it was infected when she arrived and still has some scar tissue on it.

When Molly arrived at our house, she got the guest room, which mom does for all of us, and a trip to the vet to get checked out. In spite of living outside for so long, Molly was not feral and was friendly to mom, even though she had been around many humans, who did not treat her well. She was just glad to be inside and able to sleep at night and not worry about freezing. She cooperated with all the vets treatments and took her meds. Soon mom was able to take her to adoptions.

While many people showed interest in her story and Molly was friendly to all, she did not get adopted. Finally, after several months, mom was told of a situation with a lady named Edna, who was actually one of the founders of the ARF Rescue. Edna was retired, blind and, for the most part, bedridden. She had 24/7 attendants, but her last kitty had died of old age and Edna was suffering from depression. She had never been without a cat. Friends had tried another cat at her house, but it was scared and hid. Did mom think Molly could help? It was worth a try. The house had large sunny windows, cat perches and lots of pillows for resting,as well as loving humans. When mom brought Molly to the house, it was love at first touch! Molly came out of her carrier and explored a bit. Then, within minutes she went to Edna's bed, hopped up on her own, and went to Edna's hands to be petted. Edna was delighted. Molly stayed with her and purred. She would hop down, explore a bit more and then return to Edna's side, as if she knew exactly why she was there. Mom had tears, but she knew it was the best possible place for Molly and she could visit anytime. Molly seemed to understand how mom was feeling, when mom tried to kiss her good bye, she swatted mom's face! Not hard, but enough to say, I know my job and I'm fine here.

Molly stayed with Edna almost two years, until Edna passed over the Bridge in the Fall of 2010. Then, although several caregivers and friends wanted her too, she was returned to mom, as in the agreement with Edna, to have her forever home with us. Mom said she had done her duty in caring for Edna and had more than earned a forever home with us. Molly sleeps on mom's arm against her chest every night. Mom thinks she seeks out the feel of her heartbeat and shares the vibration of her purr.

1/13/13 Second Sunday!
Barney here--- a hard morning to get mom and even the dogs up. Only 3 degrees out! Hefty and I curled up with mom last night and Zeus, Molly and Andy curled up in the cat beds in the spare room, Zeus's room. Mom shut Zeus in there, because he was being pesty and Molly and Andy opted to go in with him.

Several of you asked to know a little more about Lynne and her cats, all of whom have since passed over the Bridge several years back, including Lynne. Lynne passed suddenly about 7 years ago from Cancer. During her life, she had done many things, including being a Science Fiction writer and, for the most part, writing reviews of Science Fiction books. While living with mom she was semi-retired and writing book reviews for a library publication, "What Do I Read Next."

Concerning the cats, George was a beautiful black LH and Felecia's first husband. Reggie was her second husband and the father of Baby, or Kelly, as she was later known. Felicia was Siamese, Reggie a very bright orange, and Baby/Kelly was a dark tortie. George and Reggie were neutered when they arrived, but mom made sure Baby/Kelly and Felicia were spayed within a week of their arrival. After coming to mom, the cats lived long, indoor lives and passed from all age related causes. Only Felicia out-lived Lynne and became a good friend of Pasha and Agatha. Felicia was also very attached to mom and mom to her.

Well, that is the end of that story, unless you have more questions. A rather short blog today, but tomorrow I am starting some stories of our current family, including Zeus, who will be running for COTD!

1/12/13 Happy Caterday to all!
Barney here again and how I do love that Caterday expression! Well, I have been doing a lot of thinking this week about the theme for our January Catpaign. We have talked a lot about mom and our rescue group. So far most of the kitties we've introduced have been past Angels. I do want to talk about the current kitties too, so I guess we can call our theme a self-portrait of our CC family.

While I can't remember exactly how long we have been on CC, it has been about four years. My first COTD was 2/26/09. Mom discovered CC a short time after the death of a good friend, who had been living with her for several years. The way mom met her was through another friend, who had known Lynne from childhood and knew mom from working together at the U. of MN. Lynne lost her apartment when her landlord was remodeling the building. She had four cats and needed to find someone to care for them until she found another place to live. Their mutual friend approached mom with the problem and asked mom if there was any way she could help. Mom already had several cats she was fostering and really was at her limit. She was living by herself in the house she inherited from her grandmother, who had died a year before. Finally she asked where Lynne would be living and the answer was that she did not know. Mom thought on the problem. It did not make sense for her to take more cats, but she did have room for another human, if she was sure they were a safe person to live with. Her friend assured mom she had known Lynne since childhood, so mom decided to take a chance. Mom decided the only way she would take the cats was if Lynne came with and cared for them. Lynne's male cats George and Reggie had been neutered, but her females Felicia and Baby (who was Felicia's baby) were not. Mom made an agreement with Lynne that she would help get low cost spays for the girls, but Lynne did need to agree to have the cats spayed, if they were to live with mom. She quickly agreed.

Well, tomorrow is Sunday, and Sunday we would like to keep as an open day for questions about anything you may want to know from the week before. Depending on the number of questions, we will try to answer all, but may have to save some for the coming week or for purrsonal blogs.

You know how long its been since I had cinnamon buns?? Oh yeah...we HAVE to get outside today. We may not be able to do that again for a LONG time. We can climb trees now that you a little bigger now,and run,run,run!!! Ok...swings too-just not the sandbox-a little too wet,even for me. I DID see some chipmunks running out there..yes!
