I just checked the rosters and see you are McQuaid and Bandit is Lucic! Super players and I am so excited to get our NHL boys back! Mom watched them play last night. At first she thought they looked rusty, but after a few minutes of play, they looked ruff and tuff. So exciting!

The Riverwalk is one of the most visited places in all of Texas and San Antonio has a world of fun and exciting things to do and see.

If you tried to imagine a place where the sights, sounds and flavors of Native America, Old Mexico and the Wild West blend effortlessly with the hustle and bustle of a modern city, it would probably look a lot like the San Antonio River Walk.

We will spend the day here in San Antonio, there is so much to do and the food is fabulous! We will go shopping at the Mercado then head over to the Riverwalk.

The San Antonio Riverwalk is bigger and better than ever before. It features new Riverwalk footage, beautiful landscaping and lighting at night. The Holiday River parade is a floating parade of 25 or so professionally decorated and lighted River Barges.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the parade, which always falls on the day after Thanksgiving. Before the parade, there is a special Lighting Ceremony, in which 1.4 million LED Christmas lights are turned on along the Riverwalk.

After the parade, we will enjoy colorful drinks at a cafe along the Riverwalk and watch the Mariachi bands stroll past the lighted luminarias.

Our last day in Chicago, we stop in Daly Plaza at the Christkindlmarket , a European arts and crafts market

The Christkindlmarket is a German traditional holiday market that has made its way to Chicago. There are unique crafts and gifts for sale and a variety of entertainment and German foods.

We say goodbye to CHI-town and cast our last glances as the city sky line grows distant.

On the way home, we decide to take a mini-detour into Indiana and stop in Lafayette to visit the Route 66 diner. Inside the diner is a nice trip through Route 66 history. Posters, postcards, wall hangings, clocks, tin signs are simply everywhere. If you’re a Route 66 fan, it’s worth a visit just for the atmosphere

We sample the diner's special offerings: a hand-cut breaded tenderloin sandwich (A Hoosier specialty!) and a peanut butter hamburger. We are thrilled at the delightful taste!

Our tour bus, (and many U-Haul trailers), arrive home at the castle and we spend the evening in the gathering room around the great fireplace. We plan our Thanksgiving meal , and start to prepare the pies for tomorrow.

I am glad you enjoyed shopping along the Magnificent Mile yesterday! It was great seeing you at the rink last night! Whoo hoo didn't it feel pawsome to have a winning game!

The picture at the bottom of my page yesterday is the iconic Water Tower, built in 1869 from yellow Joliet limestone.

:o) Noble Horse Theatre :o)

Today we are spending the day in Old Town in Chicago and are attending a purrformance of the Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Ballet at a charming stable with loads of character.

This is the only theatre in North America to perform the Nutcracker ballet on horseback, and is quite an amazing gem in the middle of the city. The show is a combination of theater, dance and spectacular horsemanship.

We hear the familiar and beautiful music by Tchaikovsky, and listen to the narrated story. We will meet Clara, her Uncle, the Mouse King, the Nutcracker Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy. Trick riders will entertain us during the "Grand Divertissement" when the Sugar Plum Fairy takes Clara and the Nutcracker Prince to the Land of the Sweets.

The horses race at top speed around the ring, jumping hurdles during the fast Russian song, with trick riders leaping and dancing on and off the fast horses. Horses and riders dance with exotic veils during the Arabian dance.

Each of the familar songs is given attention to incorporate the beauty of the horses. We cheer as the snow white Sugar Plum Fairy's horse dances to the beautiful tinkling music.

After the show, we hurry up to the rail with our carrots and give the amazing creatures some treats. We tell the riders how fabulous the show was, and the riders give the kittens careful rides on the gorgeous horses.

Did you see the tv cameras at the parade yesterday? I think they filmed us having fun! Seriously, ABC filmed the Chicago Festival of Lights parade and entertainments, and if you are interested, you can check out the dot com website themagnificentmile to watch a video or find out when it will be aired in your region.

It felt good to get inside and warm up, didn’t it!

Here, posh brand name stores stand alongside historic and luxury hotels. Landmarks such as the Water Tower and Pumping Station, are among few structures left standing after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

We will have a world class shopping spree at some iconic shops along the Magnificent Mile, and will visit Water Tower Place, a 7-level shopping mall. I hope everyone brought plenty of shopping bags and catbucks!

After the shopping excursion, we head to our hotel, laughing and meowing with our furriends. Tonight we are staying in a Grand Deluxe Suite in the Trump Tower. Our spacious suite has commanding views of Lake Michigan, Chicago River, and the City Skyline. We have a telescope in the room to look out over the cityscape.

The contemporary marble surround fireplace warms us after being outside in the chilly late autumn weather, and we toast some marshmallows, being careful not to get the sticky marshmallow paw prints on the fine furnishings.

I have more paw warmers, as we will be outside again in the chilly weather. We will have a big thermos of hot cocoa with marshmallows to warm us up as we line the parade route!

For more than 50 years, the trees along Chicago's North Michigan Avenue have been illuminated to signal the official kick-off of the holiday season.

With the help hundreds of volunteers, the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival encourages everyone to join in the spirit of the holiday season and enjoy a host of festive experiences along Chicago's "Magnificent Mile."

During the day we see gorgeous Ice Sculptures, and we experience choir, theater, and many kinds of live entertainment along the Mag Mile.

The centerpiece of the day-long festival is the evening parade, and the lights on Michigan Avenue are literally illuminated block-by-block as the procession passes. More than 1 million spectators line the parade route each year to see the lighted floats, marching bands, balloons and performing artists.

The 1.2-mile parade route travels under millions of twinkling lights along Michigan Avenue from Oak Street to Wacker Drive.

We are spending the day in Chicago’s Old Town. Tonight we will be going to "The Second City" improv theatre to catch a show called “We're All in This Room Together”.

Second City is a legendary incubator of many of the world's most unforgettable funny men and women. Second City opened in December 1959, with an experimental and unconventional approach to theatre and comedy.

In a day when mother-in-law jokes were expected, the performances at Second City were nonconformist, with a comedy that spoke to a younger generation.

NBC's "Saturday Night Live" debuted with a cast that included Second City Alums John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd and Gilda Radner. Other performers launched on Second City's stages include Ed Asner, Alan Arkin, Jim Belushi, John Candy, Bill Murray, Chris Farley, Mike Myers , Harold Ramis, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert Tina Fey and so many more.

Second City's buiding has its own history; its roots are in the Hyde Park neighborhood, but it moved to Old Town in 1959 and into its present building in 1967.

Second City now has a sister theatre in Toronto and has international touring ensembles that take shows around the world.

I am passing out warm woolen mufflers and mittens this morning and I have some paw warmers! It is a chilly day!

:) Ice skating at Millenium Park :)

Today we are experiencing one of Chicago's most popular winter activities, ice skating at Millenium Park.

The park is charming and festive. We have great views of the city's skyscrapers and several of the kitties buy postcards or take pictures of the famous skyline. We sit on the benches and get warmed up with hot cocoa while the maintenance staff run the Zamboni to keep the ice smooth.

The Steppenwolf Theatre Group surprises us and does a dancing and ice skating routine to "Do You Believe In Magic"! We cheer for the clever routine that the theatre group does to the music and we offer them some hot cocoa afterward.

As the day turns into evening, our group is seated at the Park Grill Plaza at several "al fresco" tables. We order a hot and delicious meal. The Park Grill Plaza regularly places among the leaders in citywide best-of competitions for best burger, and it is widely praised for its views.

Our hotel is only three blocks away, so we walk there after dinner. We are staying at the Hotel Monaco Chicago, in a huge corner Mediterranean suite with river views. There is a large jacuzzi in the room and wonderfully cushioned, deep window seats for lounging.

I hope we all had warm jackets, hats and mittens on the sailing ship yesterday! There’s a REASON they call it the windy city! 52 degrees and sunny was pretty good for mid-November! We all warmed up in the Grand Ballroom and everyone looked marvelous!

Chicago's Gold Coast, an affluent neighborhood, is full of architectural riches. The best thing about this wealthiest area, is that window shopping is free and we can appreciate the architectural beauty as we take a tour. Two entire blocks of Astor Street are listed on the National Register of Historical places.

Landmarked properties -- most from the 1890s and the first decade of the 20th century -- are everywhere.

Tonight we will be staying at the Gold Coast Drake Hotel

Opened in 1920, the elegant Drake Hotel -- with its incomparable view of Oak Street Beach -- was the first hotel in the city with air-conditioned rooms. Its guests have included royalty and film crews; scenes from "Risky Business" and "My Best Friend's Wedding" and other movies were shot here.

Before we turn in, we grab a bite to eat at the Billy Goat Tavern. This brightly lit bar was the inspiration for the John Belushi-Dan Aykroyd "cheezborger-cheezborger, no fries, chips" sketches from those old "Saturday Night Live” shows. The walls of the Billy Goat Tavern are covered with pictures of celebrities who have had a cheezborger there

I was so happy to see so many of you enjoying Navy Pier and eating at Bubba Gump’s! The music was pawsome at the House of Blues and I am so thrilled we had our own cats purrforming…..Jake, Elwood and Mighty Mack Blues!

The song “Sweet Home Chicago” is attributed to blues man Robert Johnson (1911-1937), who was a big influence on later classic rock artists including the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Led Zeppelin.

Today we will be taking a harbor cruise on Chicago's very own Tall Ship Windy! We depart from Navy Pier and will help raise sail and have an interactive sailing adventure! We will enjoy an architectural tour and learn Great Lakes history and tales of courage. Our sail will end with fireworks over Lake Michigan……I asked them to muffle the loud booms so none of our kitty furriends have to hide below deck!

Our furriends are in their tuxedos, top hats, and most exquisite formal ball gowns as they enter the ballroom in the grandest style. The orchestra is playing "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered" as the cats and kitties head to the dance floor for some dancing. We are transported back in time, to a time and place where elegance, melodic music and gentle manners are the theme of the magical night.

Our buffet table is catered by the Navy Pier kitty caterers and features ice sculptures and a wonderful assortment of international taste treats.

The Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier, built in 1916, brings together the storied splendor of Chicago’s past. An ornate 80-foot domed ceiling tops panoramic views of Lake Michigan, offering an incomparable venue for a memoriable gala.

We are spending the day today at Navy Pier, which has a rich history and has evolved into one of the most popular spots for people visiting Chicago.

We enter through Gateway Park, along the city's lake front and enjoy seeing the water fountain with its computerized jet streams. We visit the Children's Museum and watch a film at the IMAX theater in the Family Pavilion, then go to the South Arcade and visit the "Amazing Chicago's Funhouse Maze" and the 3-D ride Transporter FX.

We are eating lunch at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, having a big basket of Peel ‘N Eat Shrimp with Bubba’s Garlic Spice or Secret Recipe Cajun Spice.

The Bubba Gump Shrimp Company is a real-life chain of family-style shrimp restaurants that has the "Forrest Gump" movie theme. It was formed as a joint enterprise between Paramount Pictures and Rusty Pelican restaurants in 1996.

I am so glad you enjoyed the WurstFest yesterday! I saw you eating some fried cheesecake and a brat on a stick! I was riding the carousel! You may find it interesting to know the activity was inspired by a real-life event taking place in New Braunfels, Texas this week!

Sadie was the “homeliest gal in them hills” and her father frantically called together all the unmarried men of Dogpatch and declared “Sadie Hawkins Day” with Sadie in hot pursuit of the eligible bachelors.

The Sadie Hawkins Day was first mentioned in the November 15, 1937 comic strip and the race actually took place between November 19 and November 30.

Due to its enormous popularity, Capp continued it as an annual event for 40 years. LIFE magazine reported over 200 colleges holding Sadie Hawkins Day events in 1939, only 2 years following the initial mention in the popular comic strip. The idea of women asking men to a dance captured the popular imagination of young people, and continues to be an American folk event. It is now observed in Canada as well.

We have a buffet table set up with hearty hamster chili, catnip chips with guacamole and we have a keg of catnip ale and plenty of sparkling fruit punch. Good morning! I hope you enjoyed the day yesterday at the track and the children’s museum. I apologize for the spontaneous train ride; our esteemed candidate “borrowed” the engine and was attracted by the bright shiny levers and buttons. No visitors were hurt and we had a thrilling and unexpected ride through the museum!

Today we will enjoy some German food and music; hope you’re hungry!

We have a big pawty tent set up on the back lawn of the castle. The tent is colored in rust, green and gold, all the autumn colors. A huge bonfire is burning on the far side of the lawn. A ferris wheel and carousel with painted ponies and zoo animals have been set up for the kittens, and for the fun loving adult cats and kitties.
We are savoring the exciting celebration of the German culture and cats, and some of us are wearing silly hats of T-Rex, unicorn, dragon, alligator, chicken and cow heads. The girls wear drindls and boys wear liederhosen, as they polka and waltz to the good ol' fashioned Oompah band, as it plays its lively music. The couples sail across the dance floor with radiant faces and big grins. Some of the kitties are dancing on the chairs and tables.

The buffet table features various meats - a lot of bratwurst - on a stick: and fried *everything* including chicken fried bacon, fried cheesecake, fried oreos, and even fried Koolaid. Dip your fried sauerkraut balls into the Dusseldorf style mustard. There is also some hot German potato salad and funnel cakes with powdered sugar and cinnamon. Can't pass that up! We have catbeers in decorative steins for those who drink and cherry and orange soda pops for those who don't.

The big tent is heated but many cats are having a great time outside near the bonfire, enjoying the foodies and meowing with furriends.

I am so glad everyone enjoyed game night at the castle last night. I DID notice several cats playing a serious game of GO FISH; and I thought I better remind everyone that the fishies in K Sams royal library aquarium are NOT to be considered part of the castle snacks!

I apologize to everyone who lost catbucks to Mallow and Captain Rascal’s cardsharking, but I am pretty sure I can purrsuade them to donate the winnings to AnimalRescueSite!

Who's up for an adventure? We are headed to the racing capital of the world to have a thrilling IndyCar race experience! We arrive at the Indoor Go Kart track and put on our race red helmets and get in the karts that look like Indy race track cars. The track is multi-level and the cars are whooshing by at speeds up to 40 MPH. Only the adult cats are allowed on this track; there is a kitten track in the basement.

We all look like champions in our Fasttimes blue jumpsuits as we navigate the twisty turns of the exciting track. The black and white checkered flag waves our winner!

It's a good thing I brought plenty of wet wipes; I see our paws are now getting sticky from the cotton candy at the snack bar. After our racing, we will head to the Children’s Museum. We are enchanted by the actor-interpreters as they transform our visit into a wondrous experience!
We watch closely as an actor climbs into the 11,000 pound steam engine in the museum's "All Aboard!" Gallery and starts it up! OH WAIT! That’s not an actor.…..OH DEAR! It looks like an orange cat is taking us for a real railroad ride through the Museum….…the visitors are scattering!

It's game night at the castle!

The royal game room is set up with card tables. Most of the kitties are playing Texas Hold "Em although a few are playing Bridge and Pinochle. An old timey popcorn popper is churning out popcorn and bowls are being brought around to all the tables. Fresh melted catnip butter is available, as are catnip chips, catbeers and catcolas. We have a supply of catnip cigars, but we ask the gents to go outside for those.

The Grand Hall is filled with colorful canvas Twister mats. Go ahead and entangle yourself with 50 or 60 of your closest furriends! Have a great time laughing as you get so tangled up! Did you know the record for the largest number of contestants in a game of Twister occurred in 1987 with over 4,000 contestants tangling themselves at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst!

We have roller skating for the kittens in the basement, with a multi-colored disco ball. Light up LED hula hoops are set up next to the roller rink, for those who want to try their dance skill with those. It's a challenge at first but you soon get used to the rhythm. Just hula hoop to the sound of the disco tunes playing over the loud speakers.

Put your fuzzy jackets on and step onto the veranda. We are having a rousing game of Charades and are howling with laughter as we try to guess words and phrases. A bonfire is burning outside and some kitties have gathered around the fire and are telling stories and jokes while they play rock, paper, scissors.

Today we will be celebrating Roy Rogers’ legacy with horseback riding in the palace prairie. We have several golden palominos lined up to ride, and some shaggy palomino ponies for the kittens. We have wooded trails for those who like to ride slowly and explore the area, and a track for those who like to race and ride fast! It’s a little cold, so we should wear jackets and probably not ride through the palace pond.

We will gather later around a campfire and sing “Don’t Fence Me In”.

It was a great time at the pep rally last night! I should mention that the picture at the bottom of my page- with fireworks - is from an actual pep rally near my home.
In Notre Dame, Indiana, pep rallies are community events, and thousands of people of all ages attend for fun and to support the team! The university is our county’s 3rd largest employer, and our economy bustles during football season!

"._." Wake up! It's GAME DAY! "._."

We are getting up in the wee hours of the morning to take the big RV and park it on the parking lot in front of the football stadium. We will be grilling burgers and bratwursts and enjoying our favorite beverages, while the kittens go to get their faces painted. We venture out and buy some football shaped beads to wear around our necks and a cap with our team logo printed on it.

Later, those of us who like to watch football will head into the stadium. Those who don't will hang out at the RV, take a campus tour, play frisbee or bicycle in the lovely fall weather. We enjoy the vibrant red, yellow and gold leaves, and we notice many of the leaves have now fallen from the trees.

The air is chilly and we head back to the RV for steaming hot cocoa or coffee. We smell the popcorn popping and can hear the percussion echoing as the marching band takes the field. The roar of the crowd and the sounds of the band fill the air as the boys on the team come running out, cheerleaders parading flags in front of them.

Our team wins and we celebrate with a lot of loud whooping. We make our way back to the RV and spend more time hanging out and watching replays on the TV before we make our way back to the castle.

There's a lot to do near my home in October and November! This time of year, it's a bustling place with a lot of folks coming in from out of town to witness fierce rivalries. Many wear face paint and have bright flags waving from the top of their cars. These activities center around American college football, and have a long history of tradition. One of our special traditions is the Friday night pre-game pep rally. There are also many Game Day events, and the streets are filled with block parties and live music on Saturdays in September, October and November.

Tonight we go to the pep rally!

Choose your favorite team, or just come to enjoy a crisp, cool autumn evening with the smells of grilling burgers and steaks in the air. We will check out the tents, buy some fan spirit wear, and say hey to our furriends on the green, as we wait for the energetic pom squad to take the stage. The team mascot gets us pumped up and yelling loudly as he introduces the coach and players. Some of us wait in the lines for pizza, others for mouseburgers, steak sandwiches or beverages. This is a community family event and kittens of all ages are welcome.

We are so excited and fired up after the rally and we head into the legendary restaurant on the green. We have reserved a big table and we admire the framed pictures of heros of yesterday. We are all wearing our new spiritwear and we laugh, meow loudly, and wave animatedly at our furriends.

Later that night, we come back for the midnight drum circle. It's chilly so we wrap our blankets around us. The kittens can hardly keep their eyes open, so the nursery cats take them home before the percussion display is ended.

Today, November 1, is the Day of the Little Angels, also known as All Saints Day. We are gathering with our candles and bringing flowers to honor our sweet Angels who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We remember our dear Angelitos by telling stories and hugging each other. I have many tissue boxes: We will need the tissues as we hug.

When the sky grows dark, we celebrate our Angels by lighting the sky with Angel Fireworks. Dinner is on the terrace with a cozy fire in the Chimera for warmth in the cool late Autumn night air. We watch the Angel Fireworks and we bow our heads as we are led in a Candlelight Memorial.

We remember and honor dear furriends we lost during October; including Gracie, Spike, Kuce, Aby/aka HC (c/o Ping), Pixie (c/o Joseph), Leo (c/o Saraha) Poppins (c/o Ping).

☔ Halloween haunting via the NICE Crew ☔
It's a cold, breezy wet day in our neck of the woods so we're not sure how many ghosts & goblins will brave the weather to knock on unsuspecting victim's doors tonight as they search for treats, but we're sure that some will.
Since it's the last day of October it means my time as the family blogger has come to a close & another will take over tomorrow. Hold onto your tails & put everything away because our maniacal little Fluffers is next in line for regular blogging duty...MOL! Zaboo will be the special event attendee & Angel Cloudy will be our on-call angel for anything or anyone that needs some angel intervention. It's been a fun month visiting with all of you to offer my purrceptions & I'll miss you. Remember, if you ever need a strong paw to whack your young kits in line all you've got to do is meow & I'll pounce over to paw them back into place for you. In other words...never fear for Patches is always near...MOL!
We're thrilled to read that so many of our furiends have now been reached through various sources & will continue to keep them in our prayers as the clean-up begins. Hi Teammate Indy!
Let’s continue to hold paws in a prayer circle until we hear from all of our furriends. Most did check in yesterday but there are a few very dear furriends that we haven’t heard from since Monday. Let’s hope and pray we hear from them today and pray for the families in the areas hit so hard that they may begin the massive rebuilding effort and return to a normal daily life.

Shirley had a stuffed black kitty she called Boo Boo Kitty. Shirly would hug and talk to her Boo Boo Kitty when she was sad. Laverne once seriously offended Shirley by using Boo Boo Kitty as a pincushion when she was hemming a skirt. Shirley's boyfriend Carmine won Boo Boo Kitty for her at a carnival.

The term has now found its way into the Urban Dictionary and can be used either as a term of affection for one's "significant other" or as an expression of feeling depressed or dejected. An example: "When I couldn't fit into my skinny jeans, I was all Boo Boo kitty"

Our prayer circle continues…..
We continue to watch the mewsroom for news of our furriends and join our paws in a prayer circle. If anyone has news to share, please post it on CMR. We all are anxious to hear that our dear furriends are safe. Sadly, power may not be restored for some for several days.

I did see that the biker cat from yesterday’s story has been featured in an episode of Cats 101. And Angel Q Gracie correctly figured out that Chris Coppola, Otto’s special purrson, is brother to actor Nicolas Cage.

^~^ Rastus, the Biker Cat of New Zealand ^~^

Rastus was a black cat, described as either a Burmese or Bombay cross (sounds familiar!). He was born in Vancouver, BC and met his soul mate purrson, Max Corkill, a bike customizer and restorer. One day Max found Rastus asleep on one of the bikes in his workshop. He started it up to see if Rastus would jump off; he didn't and Max took him for a ride. He discovered that Rastus loved to ride motorcycles with his forepaws on the handlebars and his back paws on the tank. Max had a leather cover made to fit over the tank and a specially made little helmet and goggles. For longer trips, he would ride in a specially made zipped pouch with his head peeping out, since the tank sometimes became very hot.

Rastus returned with Max to New Zealand had to spend six months in quarantine. Once he was cleared, the pair devoted their time to raising money for animal charities and visited schools to tell children about the importance of caring for pets. They starred in a television ad, and Rastus had a fan club.

Every year he would put on a Santa outfit and Max would disguise the bike as a sleigh. It is said that Rastus obeyed Max's commands and had "growling" replies, rather than meowing like a cat. There is a series of children's books; and also a book about their travels written by Max's nephew, called "The Road They Traveled."

THE CAT NETWORK –

The Cat Network is an organization that educates the public on becoming responsible pet owners. They are involved in spaying and neutering, as well as adoption efforts. On October 2, 2010, in Miami, Florida, they sponsored a black tie charity event called "Le Chat Noir" to lift awareness of the black cat and show why they are special. It was an evening of chic elegance with Otto the Biker Cat as the guest celebrity spokescat, along with his purrson, Christopher Coppola, a Hollywood film director and producer.

Otto has his own biker seat, goggles & Facebook page. Otto and Christopher descended from a limousine in matching black fedora hats custom-made for the event. “Otto makes his own decisions. He said he we had to come to Miami and help his fellow cats,” shared Coppola.

Otto commanded attention as he comfortably walked through a room full of celebratory music and crowds of onlookers. “He’s completely at ease. Earlier today at the Peterson’s Harley Davidson dealer, Otto was remarkably comfortable with crowds and noise and he even signed autographs. Indeed he is a celebrity,” said Christine Michaels, chairperson of the event. Both Christopher and Otto rode a Harley Road King motorcycle to the Epic Hotel in downtown Miami, a five-star pet friendly hotel.

Do you see the silhouettes of black cats with their backs arched in the windows of houses? Soon the little witches, ghosts, princesses and pirates will be ringing our doorbells to collect their individually wrapped treats.

No longer considered a frightening or superstitious day; it has become a time that many of us reconnect with our neighbors and meet new ones as the children parade around the neighborhood in their costumes with their bags, pumpkin containers, and glow lights. This is a fun and social time for many of us.

Remember that your pets often find the strange sights a terrifying experience. Also, sadly, there continue to be sick individuals that will hurt cats, particularly black cats, on or near Halloween. Keep your kitties indoors; and you may want to confine your pets to a room away from the door if you get many trick or treaters. Be sure to keep all Halloween candy out of the reach of pets.

I thought I would do something a little different today, so I have included a recipe for our human friends! Sorry, it’s not for us kitties, but mom thought it looked and sounded unusual and interesting, and appropriate since Halloween is just around the corner!

Patsy was owned by the American aviator Charles Lindbergh (1902-1974). She accompanied Lindbergh on some of his flights, but not the solo flight across the Atlantic that made him famous. Lindbergh reportedly said "It's too dangerous a journey to risk a cat's life." A commemorative stamp, issued in Spain, depicting his record-breaking flight from New York to Paris showed Patsy watching as his plane takes off.

=^o.o^= Black Cat Dippers and Pumpkin Pie Dip =^o.o^=

Ingredients

• 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
• 1 can (15 ounces) solid-pack pumpkin
• 1 cup confectioners' sugar
• 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
• 1 tablespoon honey
• 1 package (15 ounces) refrigerated pie pastry
• 1 egg
• 1 tablespoon milk
• Black paste food coloring ** See below
• 1/4 cup sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

• In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy. Add the pumpkin, confectioners' sugar, pie spice and honey; beat until smooth. Cover and refrigerate until serving.
• Roll out each pie pastry directly on an ungreased baking sheet to 1/8-in. thickness. Cut with a floured 2-in. cat-shaped cookie cutter, leaving at least 1 in. between cutouts. Remove excess dough and reroll scraps if desired. Beat the egg, milk and food coloring; brush over cutouts. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over cutouts.
• Bake at 400° for 6-7 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Remove to wire racks to cool. Serve with pumpkin dip. Yield: 2-1/2 dozen black cats(3 cups dip).

**TIP: you can make your own black paste food coloring from canned chocolate frosting and blue food coloring. This will make a sweet paste.

It’s almost impossible not to smile when we see LOLCat’s grin, isn’t it? Kitties are sure irresistable!
I sure am enjoying your visits and can’t believe how fast this month has flown by! We have had a couple of warm sunny days; mom says we must appreciate them while we have them. Next week it is going to turn cold!

Mimsey the MTM Cat

Mimsey the cat, also known as the Mary Tyler Moore cat, or MTM Kitten, was a parody of the old Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer roaring lion. The kitten was actually yawning when the camera filmed her memorable appearances. Mimsey opened several tv shows produced by MTM productions before she crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 1988 at age 20.

The producers sometimes did quirky things with her:

*For The Galloping Gourmet, she wore a chef's hat.

*On Hill Street Blues she had a police officer's hat.

*For the Bob Newhart show, her "meow" is Bob Newhart's voice and in the last episode, she lip-syncs Darryl and Darryl yelling "QUIET!" (The two characters' first and only word)

*For St. Elsewhere, Mimsey wore a surgical mask. In the final episode, she is shown under the credits, hooked up to life supports.

At the end of the credits, Mimsey flatlines. Sadly, the real-life Mimsey died that same year. :(

This morning I have another little kitty character from our modern pop culture; Happycat, also known as LOLCAT.

=^..^= Happycat can haz cheezburger =^..^=

Happycat is a grey British Shorthair or Russian Blue cat who was the first kitty to appear on the website Icanhascheezburger sometime around 2003. The collection of silly kitty images is believed to be originally created by a blogger in Hawaii.

There appear to be conflicting accounts of his origins. The earliest known sighting of Happycat came from a Russian cat food company, also called Happy Cat; although he was not the official mascot for the cat food company. The “Icanhascheezburger” site has spawned new terms "LOLcat" and "LOLspeak" that remain in use today. The first LOLcat book was published in 2008.

The pictures in the book and on the website are incredibly cute and the captions completely destroy proper grammar and spelling. The site receives two million or more hits a day, proving that cute kitties are irresistible.

The popularity of LOLcats has resulted in many copycat sites, like dogs instead of cats, celebrities with clever grammar destroying captions, and even some that offer "translator services" for those who have difficulty with broken English and poor spelling.

Happycat spreads his happiness worldwide: his amusing grin is truly irrestible and has been used in many parodies and internet games.

~Quick pounce through today~
I've met Marmalade & Alexi but haven't ever stopped by to see you sweet kitty so thought I'd do that today.

Just doing a quick note & vote run today since mom is catching up the laundry & trying to rake leaves plus finish putting up her Halloween decoratations. Youngsters Trixie & Fluffenella have been romping, wrestling, & getting into everything imaginable so far this morning. Fluffers thought it would be cute to attempt a wresting match with me when I was relaxing on the loveseat too but she thought better of it when I flipped her off. I saw Trixie watching to see what would happen & had to laugh when she meowed "I told you so" to Fluffers...MOL! They took off at cyclonic speed again right after that & plowed into Zaboo as he was coming in to take a nap beside me. He yowled but they were already out of the area but he'll probably get even with them later. Well got to run so mom can feed the clothes some fabric softener. Pawing you a bologna filled vote in honor of National Bologna Day & hoping you have a pawtastic Wednesday!

Meowth resembles a small housecat, but when a Meowth receives enough "battle experience", it evolves into a character "Persian" at a higher level.

The eccentric singer Lady Gaga often incorporates Hello Kitty into her odd costumes, including a pair of Hello Kitty high heels. Gaga once wore a costume made completely of Hello Kitty push dolls for a photo shoot for Sanrio.

Rock band Queen (Bohemian Rhapsody, We will Rock You, Somebody to Love) had a colorful front man, Freddie Mercury, who was owned by cats. In his last portrait, as well as his last music video, he wore a vest with handpainted likenesses of his kitties adorning it. He was owned by as many as ten cats, including a small black kitty named Goliath.

The most famous of his kitties was Delilah, a large tri-color tabby, who he adopted in 1987. He wrote a song about Delilah that features "meow" sounds made by guitars and a "talk box":

You make me smile when I'm just about to cry
You bring me hope you make me laugh - and I like it
You get away with murder so innocent
But when you throw a moody you're all claws and you bite

A youtube video of the song features several photos of him holding his cats. You might think the song is about a woman until he sings about Delilah peeing on his furniture. =^..^=

The cats lived at Garden Lodge, in London, where Mercury spent most of his time. Although he had homes all over the world, Mercury “knew home was where his cats were.” It is said that Delilah was resting near him when he passed away in 1991. After Mercury's death, Delilah and the other cats remained with his long-time female friend at Garden Lodge.

Iconic 20th Century Symbols of everything rebellious and macho, actors James Dean and Marlon Brando were both owned by cats.

Elizabeth Taylor once gave a Siamese cat to James Dean. He named the cat Marcus, after an uncle. The night before his fateful crash, he gave the cat to a girlfriend to watch while he went racing.

After James Dean's death, Elizabeth Taylor took custody of Marcus.

There are several pictures on the internet of Marlon Brando kissing his cat. ♥

In the movie, The Godfather, the opening scene featured Brando holding a cat.
