A Word With Whiskers – May 18
Heaven Is...

A man was riding his horse down a road, cat in his arms & his dog by their side. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, & that his horse, cat & dog had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stonewall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, was a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. Standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch, made from mother of pearl, & the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He nudged the horse toward the gate, & as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk. Once close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, & I'll have some ice water brought right up."

The man gestured, & the gate began to open. "Can my furiends," gesturing downward towards his horse, cat & dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked. "I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept animals."

The man thought a moment & then turned his horse & dog back toward the road, cat in his arms & continued the way he had been going. At the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road which led through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree & reading a book. "Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water?"

"Sure, there's a pump over there" The man pointed to a place that couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in."
"How about my furiends here?" the traveler asked.
"There should be a bowl & a bucket by the pump."

They went through the gate, & sure enough, there was an old hand pump with a bowl & a bucket beside it. The traveler filled the bowl & took a long drink himself, then gave some to his cat & dog while he filled the bucket for his horse. When they all were satisfied, he led his furiends back toward the man who was standing by the tree waiting for them.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is heaven," was the answer.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street & pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No. I can see how you might think so, but we're just happy that they screen out the folks who’d leave their best furiends behind."

Hi Jynxx, I'm strutting my stuff today..
Mom is in hiding and embarassed to say she gave up and surrendered...It happened like this...
Mom had a basket of towels fresh from the dryer and was taking them upstairs, then coming back down to do her pilates.. All the sudden there was utter choas as a bird had somehow gotten in and going nuts banging and hitting the window trying to get out..Mom was trying to get it to go to the door, the ceilings are low and it's flapping to close to her person so she goes upstairs for Dad, meanwhile I am having the time of my life chashing a real bird inside my domain...Zachary is now in on the game but I got it first... Mom wonders if it died from being scared to death....I am the mighty huntress MOL!!!

Mom did see the post on FB. Hope the new job comes through soon, it's hard to have our men hanging around home all the time. That is why Mom keeps her to big house, when she needs a break she can go to another floor to get away. Have all our paws crossed for good news.

woke up
to a cloud/clear sky mix as predicted and it'll gradually give over tonight to all cloudy skies for the next week almost with peeks of sun from time to time and turning more humid too. not good for janet as it'll be harder for her to breathe with the sinus-allergy bug she's got and despite meds she says she'll be ready for the bed by noontime seeing it zaps energy by noontime of whoever gets it! sandy,ana,haley,angels

A Word With Whiskers – May 17

I’ll never be sure if it was wisdom or folly that struck that day, but I would think a little of both. We had been happily living with one cat for a couple of years, a fairly large black-&-white English Shorthair named Smedley. It was time for his annual exam & shots, so off we went to our local veterinarian’s office, puss in hand, or actually wrapped like up like an Egyptian mummy to save us from his dreaded claws.

“Ah!” Doc Pete said, with a twinkle in his eyes. “I’m glad you dropped in. I have a kitten out back that needs a home & I thought of you!”

Before I could stop him, his assistant brought out the tiniest marmalade tabby, weighing just over a pound, with a cast on his left front leg. He put him in my arms, looked up at me & said, “So what do you think?”

They say a sucker is born every minute & that was my minute. We took one look at the poor little thing & then at each other & we were done for. We found out that someone had broken his leg & tried to drown him in the nearest canal. A Good Samaritan had rescued him & brought him to the vet’s office.

“How will they get along?” I asked. “How do we go about introducing them to each other?”
“Oh, that’s no problem,” he said. “You just put him in a carrier, take him home, leave the carrier open & let Smedley think he is rescuing the kitten.”

Well, it sounded good. As per instruction, once we got home, we left the kitten in the carrier in the middle of the room. Then we sat back to watch. Smedley circled the box & growled deeper than I had ever heard him before. The kitten mewed plaintively while sticking a paw out of the holes in the side of the carrier. After about an hour, we decided to open the top of the carrier a little wider. Smedley walked up to the top, looked inside & was rewarded by a lightning strike from a small orange paw.

That was the last we saw of him that evening. I was convinced that the next morning would find us back at the vet’s office returning the little tyke. However, the next morning, we were in for a surprise. As I got up to put on the coffee, I saw the two of them curled up together on the sofa as if they were one cat with two smiling faces. From then on, Smedley watched over the little one as if he had given birth to him, and they went everywhere together.

Doc Pete was right!

Hi Jynxx,
We are looking fo more showers through the weekend. Mom is sitting on the back porch with me enjoying the birds and doing my mail. We are waiting for the sun to warm us up...
Down in the yard are our 3 angel girls, Maggie, Sadie & Monica. Mom got me when she lost Sadie to renal failure at age 16. She was a black Persian too. Mom often has her morning coffee with the Angels. Maggie was a seal point himmie like Abigail Shyla, they were sisters, Maggie was mom's favorite kitty ever, she went on Mother's Day four months after Sadie did. Zachary & I got to meet her briefly before she went. Monica has been gone 2 yrs and she ruled the roost back in the day. We lost her at 14 to cancer. Mom still misses them...
Have a great weekend and hope there's a show to enter.

mid morning vote for you all there! janet's down with the sinus-allergy flu and will likely have it for the next 6-8 weeks so her doctor has told her and has the sinus infect-ion and will be going to see her nurse practioner on tues early on for 2 wart freezings and now this! she's on meds already but they're making her woozy and light headed, but she'll make it through this so she feels! see ya tomorrow early on. sandy,ana,haley,angels

i tend
to spend more time sleeping as does ana, so my racing time is usually between 4-6 am when only haley is usually out and about out of nat's bedroom. she's the active one and ana is getting pretty lazy like me! but with baking all the cakes and goodies i manage to keep pretty busy. sandy, ana, haley,angels

Hi Jynxx,
I know what Mom means about freezing, Mom has a stack of jeans & sweaters, and some shorts out. cause it has been cold for so long. Today was gorgeous, 90 degrees and the wind blew all day long, Mom worked in the basement cleaning, planted a few flowers and worked on cleaning off the porch. She wonders what the wind is blowing in.
Game day was fun, we even won a few.

well momma is gettin a bit of a break today at work and we gonna visit a bit. we are having great weather now. it is 81 and real pretty day. momma had a good mother's day as she went down and spent the day with gma.
we have been playing and such just being lazy kitties,

hhmmm, me thinks shaddy be kinda strange. he was laying in momma's lap and she was petting him and he wanted to play a bit, but then he started gettin his own tail now, and was grabbing and biting it and he started quarrelling at himself and even hissed at himself and then jumped down to the floor now is that strange or what!!!!!!!

we have missed our friends, but money got a bit tight with daddy out of work a whole month and momma says she has to get it built back up afore the home puter can be seen too

A Word With Whiskers – May 15
CAT FUNNIES :) - Volume 1

A Cat Heaven -

One day a cat dies of natural causes and goes to Heaven. There he meets the Lord himself. The Lord says to the cat, "You lived a good life and if there is any way I can make your stay in Heaven more comfortable, please let Me know."

The cat thinks for a moment and says, "Lord, all my life I have lived with a poor family and had to sleep on a hard wooden floor." The Lord stops the cat and says, "Say no more," and a wonderful fluffy pillow appears.

A few days later six mice are killed in a tragic farming accident and go to Heaven. Again the Lord is there to greet them with the same offer. The mice answer, "All of our lives we have been chased. We have had to run from cats, dogs, and even women with brooms. Running, running, running; we're tired of running. Do you think we could have roller skates so we don't have to run anymore?" The Lord says, "Say no more," and fits each mouse with beautiful new roller skates.

About a week later the Lord stops by to see the cat and finds him in a deep sleep on the pillow. The Lord gently wakes the cat and asks him, "How are things since you arrived?"

The cat stretches and yawns and replies, "It is wonderful here. Better than I could have ever expected. And those Meals on Wheels you've been sending by are theeeeeeee best!!!"

The Cat Scan –

A man runs into the vet's office carrying his dog, screaming for help. The vet rushes him back to an examination room and has him put his dog down on the examination table. The vet examines the still, limp body and after a few moments, tells the man that his dog, regrettably, is dead. The man, clearly agitated and not willing to accept this, demands a second opinion.

The vet goes into the back room and comes out with a cat and puts the cat down next to the dog's body. The cat sniffs the body, walks from head to tail, poking and sniffing the dog's body and finally looks at the vet and meows.

The vet looks at the man and says, "I'm sorry, but the cat thinks that your dog is dead, too."

The man, finally resigned to the diagnosis, thanks the vet and asks how much he owes. The vet answers, "$350."

"$350 to tell me my dog is dead?!" exclaims the man.

"Well," the vet replies, "I would only have charged you $50 for my initial diagnosis. The additional $300 was for the cat scan."

weather here today, mid 70s and sunshine till very late afternoon going into tonight with boomers and a warm front moving in. janet's already walked 5 miles and gotten almost everything online done so that's out of the way. yahoo was acting up and she's gotten a few things done and will try another letter reply from another source online later on around lunchtime. let's get going had a frost when we were told not and when we were supposed to have a hard freeze, nothing! go figure! sandy,ana,haley,angels

Oh heck Jynxx...anyone can kick my butt! Its my teeth and claws you have to worry about. You likey my sword? I bet you have sword envy, don't ya! Its a bear to try to walk with,keep tripping over it. mother's day is kind of a big splurge on mom because we can't afford to do it too often but that's ok with mom. just like your pawrents mom says as long as she has dad and us, she's a happy woman. our pawrents have been together a long time too. first they dated for 6 years and this year will be their 34th wedding anniversary. btw, we think that the car meet and McDonalds is a purrfect "i love you" date :)

A Word With Whiskers – May 14
Ugly the Cat – author unknown

Everyone in the apartment complex I lived in knew who Ugly was. Ugly was the resident tomcat. Ugly loved three things in this world: fighting, eating garbage, and shall we say, love.

The combination of these things combined with a life spent outside had their effect on Ugly. He had only one eye, he was missing an ear and his left foot appeared to have been badly broken at one time, healing at an irregular angle. His tail was gone, leaving a small stub & he was covered with scabs. Humans reacted when they saw him with, “That’s one UGLY cat!”

All the children were warned not to touch him, the adults threw rocks at him, hosed him down when he tried to come in their homes, or shut his paws in the door when he would not leave. Ugly always had the same reaction. If you turned the hose on him, he would stand there, getting soaked until you gave up and quit. If you threw things at him, he would curl his lanky body around feet in forgiveness. If you ever picked him up he would immediately begin suckling on your shirt, earrings, whatever he could find.

One day Ugly shared his love with the neighbor’s huskies. They did not respond kindly, and Ugly was badly mauled. From my home I could hear his screams, and I tried to rush to his aid. By the time I got to where he was laying, it was apparent Ugly's sad life was almost at an end.

As I picked him up to carry him home, I could hear him wheezing and gasping. I must be hurting him terribly I thought. Then I felt a familiar tugging, sucking sensation on my ear- Ugly, in so much pain & suffering was trying to suckle my ear. I pulled him closer to me and he bumped the palm of my hand with his head. Then he turned his one golden eye towards me, and I could hear the distinct sound of purring. Even in the greatest pain, that ugly battled-scarred cat was asking only for a little affection, perhaps some compassion.

At that moment I thought Ugly was the most beautiful, loving creature I had ever seen. Ugly just looked up at me, completely trusting in me to relieve his pain.

Ugly died, nestled in my arms. I sat and held him for a long time afterwards, thinking about how one scarred, deformed little stray, could so alter my opinion about what it means to have true pureness of spirit, to love so totally and truly.

Many people want to be richer, more successful, well liked, beautiful; but for me, I will always try to be Ugly.

Hi Jynxx,
Sorry mom was feeling bad but I know you enjoyed having her at home to snuggle with. My mom has been feeling bad too, BP is way up and she is going... Here We Go Again
mom does this all the time, BP meds just don't work for her for long, so we change them often. Mom has an appointment soon so I guess we get to pla switch the meds.. Mom has extra medication on hand for emergencys so she can keep it at a safe reading. We had to turn the heat on the past few nights, 75 today when the sun burns off the fog, 90 tomorrow and summer is on...
I would be happy to go to Sandy's with you.

what a surprise!
so glad that our mom's have Mother's Day for us to show how much we appreciate them and i was expecting the same routine as last Mother's Day and sure enough dad came out of the bedroom carrying a big basket . yep, there was the 3 dozen carnations (mom's favorite flower) from us kitties, and there was the card, box of chocolates, and bottle of mom's favorite Asti Spumante. ok, excitement was over. no, i was wrong............. mom was laughing as she was pulling something else out of the basket. i couldn't believe it! i blinked and rubbed my eyes and looked again. it was cans of tuna and a big bag of greenies!!!! Woooooooo Hoooooooooo, that was the best Mother's Day, ever!!!

ITALIAN CAT BRINGS GIFTS TO HIS LATE MASTER'S TOMB –

ROME - The story of a cat who visits his master's tomb and brings him little presents on an almost daily basis a year after the man's death has moved the inhabitants of a village in central Italy.

"He brings little twigs, leaves, toothpicks, plastic cups. A bit of everything really," Renzo Iozzelli's widow Ada told AFP from Montagnana, a mountain village near Florence.

"Sometimes he comes with me and sometimes he goes on his own. The whole town knows about him now!"

Toldo the cat -- a grey-and-white three-year-old tomcat -- followed Iozzelli's funeral procession last year and has continued going to the cemetery ever since, a habit usually ascribed to dogs.

"He loved my husband. It was something else! Now it's just me, my daughter and my son-in-law and he's very affectionate with us too," she said.

Ada said the journey to and from the cemetery each day had tired Toldo out in the cold winter weather.

"He's not going out so much these days. He's caught a bit of bronchitis so he's sleeping next to me."

BRAZIL INMATES TRAIN CAT FOR PRISON BREAK –

BRASILIA - A cat trained by prisoners to deliver cell phones and tools to dig tunnels was caught at a jail in northeastern Brazil after sneaking in with forbidden items strapped to its body.

"An agent saw the cat and went to look at it closely because something about it seemed wrong," Marcelo Avelino, the head of the prison guards' union, told the O Globo newspaper.

The agent found a bag tied to the animal's body filled with saw blades and drill parts for concrete drilling and digging tunnels, along with a cell phone complete with battery and charger, Avelino added.

The cat had often been seen coming in and out of the Alagoas jail.

Prison officer Luiz de Oliveira Souza told the G1 news website that prisoners had raised the cat and that relatives would often take it home after a prison visit.

"We were very surprised by this new tactic of prisoners, who trained the animal so that it returned to the prison and even managed to carry materials,” the agent added.

Sorry the car show got rained out. It is gonna get so cold here tonight that Mom is gonna have to bring in the tender flowers... Don't think winter is ever going away this year....

Dear Meow-my,

Today is Mother’s Day, and because we love and care about you, we have a few points we’d like you to consider:

1. You’re perfect just the way you are. Sometimes we see you worry about silly things and we think you should worry less and nap more. It works for us. And we’ll even nap with you – what a deal!

2. We love it when you let us sleep in your chair. Even when you need to sit there, you never move us – you just balance your butt on the very edge of the chair so you don’t disturb us. You are kind…and well-trained.

3. We know you want to develop a consistent yoga routine and we think that’s a great idea. Stretching feels fantastic and we just want you to know we’re here to help you. You know how we are – the minute you sit on the floor, we climb all over you. Sometimes this annoys you, but we are only trying to help you master the poses. You’re welcome.

4. We also think you should read more books. We notice you look more relaxed when you read, and we like that. Additionally, you reading a book means we’re charged with rubbing our faces all over it and lying on top of it, forcing you to eventually stop reading and pay lots and lots of attention to us. So please read, relax, but focus most of your energy on us.

5. We have a relaxation tip for you: Have you tried napping on a pile of warm laundry? It’s just the best! Try a load of towels – you’ll never go back.

6. Don’t feel guilty about eating a treat now and again. In fact, get really excited about it! You see us, right? Do you notice how we race around the kitchen and cheer when you show us the treat jar? You need to do some racing and cheering over cupcakes. We’ll grab the camera.

7. We love it when you play with us! We think sometimes you should close that computer-thingy and play more often – and not just with us! Take a walk, go swimming or meet friends for tea. And sometimes, we want to be your only laptop.

Hopefully you will find our suggestions helpful. We kitties are smart and know how to live happy and balanced lives and we want that for you, too! Thank you for everything you do for us. We don’t even mind a camera in our faces now and again – we know that makes you happy. Not to create more work for you, but we would like to suggest that you do a few more loads of laundry each week. What? You read #5, right?

CATS’ WHISKERS –

If you were to put your cat in a darkened maze, she’d confidently stroll all the way through without knocking into the sides or bumping into the wall. Cover her eyes, and she’d still be able to locate a mouse in the field. Even if you covered her ears and nose as well as her eyes and then tried to sneak up on her, she’d probably be aware of you before you got close.

Are cats psychic? Lots of people think so. But scientists have found that cats’ rather astonishing powers of perception are due less to mental wizardry than to the wonders of the whiskers. (No, not me silly!)

Cats use their whiskers constantly. The whiskers act almost like sonar, telling cats how close they are to objects around them. Cats also use their whiskers to communicate. Depending on the position, whiskers tell other cats when to stay away and when to approach.

When you look at cats head-on, you’ll get a pretty good view of their intricate whisker systems. You’ll see a vast collection of long hairs sprouting from their eyes, at the base of their ears, along their cheeks, and under their chins. Some whiskers are specialized, and each set does a different job.

In a very real sense, whiskers are like several extra sets of eyes. They allow cats to see the world in greater detail. In fact, cats who lose their sight may develop whiskers that are longer and thicker than usual.

Because the whiskers have a hot line to the brain, they provide unique insights into your pet’s moods and actions. You can tell when she is contented, irritated, or ready to play. Cats will often broadcast what their next behavior will be with movement of their whiskers.

Whiskers straight out to the sides: This means nothing is stimulating their curiosity or distracting them. They’re happy and content.

Whiskers flattened: When the whiskers shoot straight back from the nose and lie flattened against the cheeks, your cat is afraid of something.

Whiskers fanning and swiveling: Cats who are curious use their whiskers almost like antennae.

Whiskers spread out and angled forward: When a cat points her whiskers straight out in front of her face, watch out. She is putting her sensors ahead of her to feel what she is going to bite.

Because the whiskers are so sensitive, petting or stroking them is the equivalent of shouting in your cat’s ear. It’s a good idea to let children know not to pull on a cat’s whiskers.

good morning!
looks like our next sports day might be on wednesday next week as the weather doesn't look to good right now for another one which would be moved into the garage, breezeway and down cellar. we're not for that since it's now warm enough out most days but might be off to a frosty start on tues or wed as we heard a frost on tues and some are saying no on wed. so we'll have to wait and see as it'll warm back up by mid to late next week with showers and more rain which we still need. sandy,ana,haley,angels

Hi Jynxx,
Cool here and we are expecting storms. Maybe frost tomorrow night. Geez Mom would liketo put away her winter stuff and us kitties would like to shed our winter coats sometime before summer comes...

Ringo is doing good with his collar. At first he just laid around and thought he could not move around. He is on the top of the cat tree right now and Mom has seen him eat with it on too. He still scratches when it comes off, so he wears it all the time..Dad got him some bubblegum flavored benadryl, he hates it. It causes him to drool and makes him sleepy too.
