How We Met

She kept coming to visit us all summer long, she loves our dog Shadow. I would be out walking Shadow and all of a sudden Dot would be there!!! But what really cinched the deal was helping her dad work on the tractor one day, I think he found her irresistable!! She was very sick when she came to us. She had an URI after about 2 months of Antibiotics she was better and could finally meet Tucker & Mouse. Tucker & Dot are the best of Buddy's , Dot and Mouse are still working on it.

That's the spirit, Dot!
Just remember when you were the new kid and everyone gave you a chance! Doesn't sound like you were hissing last time, anyway, or Mouse either. I'll bet you two even have fun together eventually. Hi Dame Dot and family!
You know, it has been over a year for our fursib Whitey to get used to Callie and me. Whitey and Callie still can't pass each other in the room without hissing or growling , but they never fight or raise a paw at each other. My Mom has even caught me and Whitey sniffing each other- without Whitey hissing! Now that was a breakthrough! I get along with Orangie and Callie, but I have to try with Whitey. She has scratched me more than a few times, but never anything bad. I always walk away with a hurt look on my face.:( That always gets my Mom to hug me! We think Maizy is coming along fine! Baby steps!
~~~
The sun was shining in the afternoon, but rain is expected tonight. My Dad had an appointment this morning with the surgeon who fixed his broken ankle over a year ago. After x-rays and a check up, Dad’s ankle has healed fine! He just needs to keep exercising his ankle- furever! I told Dad, “No Pain, No Gain!” MOL! As long as it doesn’t affect me!
My sister Callie has a check-up visit to the vet tomorrow. We’ll try to paw by in the evening.
We are praying for Queen Duchess and Queen MerryBelle to feel better, along with so many of our very dear furiends.
We left a vote with purrs, hugs and prayers for our furiends and their families in need.
The Christmas Gift of Knowing You =^.^=
~~~~~
The Christmas season fills our hearts with joy;
Bright, happy days bring special kinds of pleasure.
We're wrapped in the excitement of it all,
The sights, the sounds, the smells, the tastes we treasure.

Yet when we have some quiet time to mew
About our finest blessings all year through,
We focus on our family and our furiends,
And appreciate the gift of knowing you!

Hi Dear Dot!
Awww, now why did your blog yesterday make my mom smile? She thinks it's cute that Maizy is ignoring you and keeps on washing herself. I don't. I feel your pain; these intruders just set themselves down and try to take over OUR humans. The nerve! Mom says there is some "posturing" going on and Maizy doesn't act like she is going to be intimidated by you or anyone else for that matter. Funny girl! Mom admires that. She thinks it's cute that K-Tuck hasn't hissed at all and you are having a hissing frenzy. What is so cute about that, I want to know!!

Seriously, we are delighted that Maizy is getting some freedom and we hope you warm up to her soon, dear furriend! Mom says you will be glad you did cause it sounds like Maizy might be a fun playmate!

Oh we hear ya about that ugly football game, who woulda put the kid in there in a "must win"? Geesh, does the coach not listen to your mom? He should. So glad Ohio State has some post season play this year and you will have something to cheer about on New Year's Day.

Have a super evening! Big hugs!

QUEEN KELS KAT REMEDIES
Good afternoon kitties. Today's topic is: BLADDER CONTROL PROBLEMS:!!

Few things are less savory than discovering an unpleasant odor emanating from your potted plants or a puddle in your living room. Oh no, she has done it again. It is normal for puppies and kittens to make mistakes. But when your grown up pet has suddenly stopped making it to litter box or back yard on time, there could be something physically wrong.

HOLD THE NIGHTCAP: To help keep floors dry while you sleep, try putting out only a small amount of water at night. Don't stop the water entirely. For some pets going without water can be dangerous.

PROVIDE EXTRA BATHROOMS: When Fluffy has poor control, the last thing she needs is a litter box that's far away. To make sure she can get relief when she needs it, have an extra litter box on every floor.

KEEP IT TIDY: Even desperate cats can be finicky, and if the litter isn't kept clean, they refuse to use it. Clean out your cats boxes with each bowel movement, or at least once a day.

WHEN TO SEE THE VET: While even the best-behaved pet can have accidents, a sudden change for the worse could mean trouble. Pets that urinate frequently or in all the wrong places could have a bladder infection, diabetes, hormone imbalance or even kidney failure.

Call your vet if any changes in your pets usual habits persist for more then 2 days or if the urine is discolored or if it's difficult for her to go.

TOMORROW: HIVES!!!

Hi Dame Dot and family!
It’s raining here today and is supposed to rain all week long. The storm is not as bad as last week. The creek by our house went down considerably over the weekend, but this morning it’s filling right back up. Yay!

We're sorry to hear you are not a happy cat! It's just going to take some time to get used to your new fursib. Try to keep the holiday spirit when you hiss, growl and sing to Maizy. I bet you have a lovely singing meow! We always have you and your family in our prayers dear furiend.

Recipe for Christmas All Year Long =^.^=
~~~~~
Take a heap of kitten-like wonder
That opens up our eyes
To the unexpected gifts in life—
Each day a sweet surprise.
Mix in fond appreciation
For the cats whom we know;
Like festive Christmas candles,
Each one has a special glow.
Add some giggles and some meows,
A dash of Christmas food,
(Amazing how a piece of catnip pie
Improves our attitude!)
Stir it all with feline kindness;
Wrap it up in love and peace,
Decorate with optimism, and
Our joy will never cease.
If we use this healthy recipe,
We know we will remember
To be in the Christmas spirit,
Even when it's not December.
QUEEN KELS KAT REMEDIES
Good afternoon kitties. Today's topic is: MATTED COATS!!
Is your pet having a bad hair day? Is her coat all gnarly and matted??? It's not much fun getting tangled up with matted fur. Hundreds of hairs can be involved in just one mat.
KEEP HER DRY: Once your pets matted hair gets wet, if they get wet, they will be even more difficult to remove. So keep her dry until you get the mats out.
LET FINGERS DO THE WALKING: Untangling a mat takes patience, but it can be done. Starting at the ends of the hairs and working inward--hair by hair if necessary--divide the mat in half with your fingers. Then divide it in quarters and pull til they come out. Then run a comb through the hair to make her coat smooth.
GIVE MATS THE BRUSH OFF: Your pets brush can be a great mat-fighter. Beginning near the tips of the hair and using short rapid strokes, gently brush upward. As the hair gets smooth, gradually work your way down toward the skin.
COAX THEM OUT WITH CORNSTARCH: A light sprinkling of cornstarch makes stubborn mats easier to pull apart.It helps the hair glide right out of the mat. As you work, add more cornstarch as needed.
SLIDE THEM OUT WITH SPRAY: Pet stores sell sparys made specifically for detangling mats. They typically contain lanolin, which helps hairs glide out of the mat. Make sure to get "Feline Friendly" if used for cats.
TAKE IT IN STAGES: If your pet has more than one mat or one large mat that's particularly tough, it's a good idea to do the job in stages. Work on them 10 minutes at a time, then give your pet extra love and maybe a special treat.
GET THEE TO A GROOMER: Professional groomers have special tools to help untangle tough mats. It's important to remember that even groomers sometimes give up and take a shortcut.
BRUSH HIM UP: Once your pet is mat-free, giving him a daily brushing will help keep his coat smooth. Since every pets coats are different, ask your local pet store for the best brush to use on your pet.
GET HER IN CONDITION: Using a conditioner will help keep your pets coat smooth and healthy. Apply the conditioner once a week. Follow label instructions and for cats, make sure it is "Feline Friendly".
TAKE A SHORT CUT: One fool-proof way to prevent matting is to keep your pets coat short. It's much better in the long run to prevent mats and having to get rid of them.
Tomorrow: BLADDER CONTROL PROBLEMS!!!
so how was your weekend?
ours was good and bad the good two things janet baked came out as they should be as well as her seeing her first shooting star ever and 2 long walks the past 2 mornings for sunrises. then the bad was 2 batches of cookies not coming out as one janet tried adding things to make it pliable, but it still was to icky so it was tossed and the other one decided to burn 2 out of 3 trays of cookies she attempted to make. must be the weather as it affects things in strange ways sometimes. sandy,ab,haley,angels
Hi Dot!!
Is that her name? Maizy? That's a real cute name and I bet it fits her. OMG girlfurriend, Mouse and Tucker didn't get bent outta shape over her release, but *YOU* did? Somehow that seems like irony.....like weren't you the most recent newcomer? MOL how quick we furrget. I have a pretty strong feeling you will get over your hissy fits soon but of course you had to tell this newcomer what you thought. Don't hold it in.
Seriously, we are thrilled that Maizy's vet visit went well and that she is healthy enough to be around you guys now. It's wonderful! Have a super evening and a great weekend! Mom is REALLY looking forward to having a nice weekend where she can get presents wrapped and get the house looking a little nicer. Dad finished the bathroom and went back down to finish the trim work in the basement. Mom is thrilled!
Tell you a secret, Dot ...
Mike was a hissy pants when I first came here. And I was just a little 2 lbs of fluff huddled in the back of a Pet Taxi inside a big cage. Not like I was gonna HURT him, but he would come up to the cage to check me out and anytime I moved, he would hiss at me. I just hissed my little kitten hisses right back. Mom wasn't worried as long as no one was lunging at the cage, Mikey was just telling me he was here first and I'd better not go getting any funny ideas. After about a week we were playing with the Cat's Meow together through the bars, when Mom saw me reaching for the stringy thing she put it closer to the cage where I could reach and we had a ball with the cage bars between us.
And Evie says when SHE first came, Mike used to hiss SO hard that he (giggle) actually snorted through his nose. Toro! Toro, Mikey!
Keep us posted, I'll bet you get things negotiated with Maizy very soon. You'd better, she has a name now and I think that means she's gonna stay. -- Mojo
Hi Dame Dot and family!
The rain is coming down like cats and dogs here today. (Okay, maybe just dogs!) While Mom was on the computer, we lost power a couple of times, but Mom has learned the hard way to always back up her files - like every minute right now!
Mom got an emergency phone call this morning from the next-door neighbor. Sugar Bear has escaped out the front door, but Mom found her right away in the cathouse in our front yard. Mom was able to grab her and take her back home. They were both soaked! Sugar Bear’s new Mom is an older lady and moves very slow. Sugar Bear still seems to want to get outside every now and then. Mom thinks it will just take time. Ebony was sitting in the bay window, watching the rain and looked like he was smiling at Mom and Sugar Bear! MOL!
Maizy is an adorable name. Now you girls be nice to her. My Mom says out of her four cats at home, I am the only one that doesn't growl and hiss. It must be a male thing. MOL! You girls! We have our paws crossed for the kitty. Tell Shadow we said hey!
We hope you are all safe and warm in your furever homes.
We left a vote with purrs, hugs and prayers for our furiends and their families in need.
A CAT'S CHRISTMAS =^.^=
~~~~~
'Twas the night before Christmas
and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring,
not even a mouse

'Cuz the cat had pounced on him
and tore him apart -
Ate his mousey intestimes
and chewed up his heart.

Kitty thought he heard sleighbells,
which made him take pause-
He stopped daintily licking
the blood from his claws.

"Must be Santa," thought kitty
(that quite clever cat)
'Cuz nobody else climbs down
the chimney like that.

Indeed it was ol' Santa,
so jolly and fat
With a huge load of presents
and all for the cat

"Wow, the best Christmas ever!"
Kitty thought with a purr,
Then he coughed up a hairball
and shed some more fur.

Hi Dame Dot
Our Thanksgiving was so good. Momma roasted a whole chicken - and I got to taste it! Oh my, oh my, oh my. (Not that she had a choice, as I was trying to climb onto her plate).

Of course, the Queen always gets a taste of chicken - it's about the only human food the vet said she could have. Lovey and Tawnee have no interest in human food, except they do seem to enjoy the aromas of Tex-Mex food - they don't ask for any, just sniff the air for a few minutes, then walk away.

Life is good.

Hi Dame Dot and family!
My Mom finally put some catnip filled mousey toys under the Christmas tree to entice us. I’m proud to meow I was the first to brave under the tree, followed by Callie and Orangie. Whitey watched us for a long time from the staircase, but she finally couldn’t resist. Whitey got within a few feet of the tree, but that mean ole Callie begin to growl at her. Later in the evening, Whitey came back down and finally made it under the tree on her own. My Mom is keeping the tree filled with cat toys. So far none of us has toppled the tree over. We all know Santa Paws is watching. MOL!

The big storm is on schedule to arrive here early tomorrow morning. On our walk this morning, we passed a corner where people could fill up sand bags. We feel pretty safe where we live. Mom is a little worried about the winds that are coming, but she put some strong stakes and rope around the butterfly tree she is worried about. It would have to rain awfully hard and long for the creek to pose a problem to the homes next to it. We’ll let you know what happens. Fortunately Ebony and Sugar Bear will be watching the storm from their window, like us!

The little houses under your Christmas tree sound wonderful! That's what we need! It sounds like your Mom is taking really good care of your mew fursib. As my Mom always says, "Baby Steps!" Take it nice and easy. Shadow is such a good doggie being nice to cats. We hope the kitty's trip back to the vet goes well. We'll keep all of you in our prayers sweetie.

We left a vote with purrs, hugs and prayers for our furiends and their families in need.

We have a silly cat joke to hopefully make you smile. :)

THREE WISHES =^.^=
~~~~~
An old lady is rocking away the last of her days on her front porch, reflecting on her long life, when --
all of a sudden -- a fairy godmother appears in front of her and informs her that she will be granted three wishes.
"Well, now," says the old lady, "I guess I would like to be really rich."
*** POOF ***
Her rocking chair turns to solid gold.
"And, gee, I guess I wouldn`t mind being a young, beautiful princess."
*** POOF ***
She turns into a beautiful young woman.
"Your third wish?" asks the fairy godmother.
Just then the old woman's cat wanders across the porch in front of them.
"Ooh -- can you change him into a handsome prince?" she asks.
*** POOF ***
There before her stands a young man more handsome than anyone could possibly imagine.
She stares at him, smitten. With a smile that makes her knees weak,
he saunters across the porch and whispers in her ear:
"Bet you`re sorry you had me neutered."
Are you serious, Dot? That is great news!
About your Gma's kitty, that is! Wow! Now how many people might have heard that diagnosis and sent the kitty to the Bridge right away? SO glad your Gma isn't one of those kind of people and that her kitty is doing so well. I guess it must have been some kind of steroid they used if it gave him diabetes and it is super, super great that even that was able to resolve itself! Mike got a steroid shot for his kitty zits and that's part of what made him so sick, since he was already showing some signs of diabetes except no one had figured that out yet.
Mom says NO more of us get any steroids ever unless it is for something really serious like it was for your Gma's kitty. Better to risk diabetes or even heart disease than to let a tumor run amuck, after all.
I think your vet has a point and I was actually going to say that. Your Mom notices things and gets them looked at, where with some other people the kitties might just wander off & vanish, with no one knowing he was even sick. Angel Smokey tried that once, he was missing 3 days and when the humans finally found him tucked into a really ingenious little hidey-hole he was super sick with an abscess he'd gotten in a cat fight. They got him fixed up and he lived almost 7 more years. -- Mojo
MOL Dot! I would NOT
want to be the one who the vet looks at and says "I've never seen anything like this before". Well, good vets like to learn new things but you don't want to be the one they learn them from. So glad they caught the new kitty's problem in time, and it just takes a couple of weeks of medicine to get rid of those gross things!
I know what you mean about having someone to run around with, I sure love to run around with Mikey and he feels more like it now that he's lost some weight. Now that he's not sick from diabetes anymore he's back to a slim trim 16 1/2 lbs. I know, I know. If either of US were 16 1/2 lbs those would be the last words anyone would use to describe us. But Mikey was over 20 lbs when I first came here. Evie says he porked up after he didn't have Mallow to run around with anymore. I am his purrsonal trainer, mol. -- Mojo
Hi Dame Dot and family!
Not too much happening here today. My Mom took Callie and me for a walk in our stroller this morning. There are still puddles in the creek, but we’re expecting rain tomorrow. My Mom moved the bucket of water by the creek that she fills every day. She moved it further away from the creek, just in case we get a lot of rain the next few days. We haven’t seen any deer in a long time, but we always see our doggie furiend and his jogger. We just meow and wave at the doggie as he barks at us!
None of us kitties has been brave enough to go under the Christmas tree yet, but we are all watching it from afar. I keep checking to see if any of the presents have my name on them. MOL! We hope you all have a warm and cozy day.
We hope the mew kitty is doing okay. We know you kitties must be helping your Mom take good care of her. We have all of you in our prayers. Give your pawrents and Shadow warm hugs for us too.
OMG Good thing your mom was smart enough to put the mewcomer in isolation. Who knew that she would have such scary-sounding worms! Lungworms! Mom has never heard of that and she says gosh she hopes people can't get it from kittens. I'm so glad she is eating well and the two weeks of treatment will go fast. Maybe not fast enough for kitty or for mom, but the time will pass and soon she will be out and I have a feeling she will be playful and mischievous. Like somebunny else we know. Tee hee.
Oh, Dot! That poor new kitty!
I have no idea what lungworms even are but they sound about as gross as it gets!
So glad your Mom had her in isolation so at least there's only one kitty in your house who has it. I sure hope the treatment is successful and she's sure a lucky kitty that she has your Mom to help her get herself all cleaned out. I had roundworms when I first came here but I think most of us have those when we're little.
Hi Dame Dot and family!
The rain has cleared up for now, but we’re expecting a big rain and wind storm this Wednesday through Friday. The weatherman on the mews said to take in any Christmas decorations that might blow away. Yikes!
We had unexpected company at our house this weekend, so I know I have a lot of catching up to do. We hope you all had a nice relaxing weekend. Our house is empty once again, with just us cats and Mom. Now the dreaded vacuum monster is let loose once again.:(
The creek by our house hasn’t dried up, but the water stopped flowing. Now just a lot of puddles remain in the creek. This next storm should get it flowing again.
Callie and I are sitting in the sun in the backyard today, while Whitey and Orangie are basking in the window upstairs. Ebony and Sugar Bear are doing really well, enjoying the Christmas decorations in their new home.
Oh no! Poor little kitty has worms?! We hope and pray the vet can clear it all up. That's so sad she has to stay isolated for so long, but you sure wouldn't want the worms to spread! We'll keep the little one in our prayers dear furiend. Give your Mom a comforting hug for us. We know she must be so worried. We'll keep all of you in prayers sweetie. Give Shadow a warm hug for us too.
We left a vote with purrs, hugs and prayers for our furiends and their families in need.
Little Paws Prayer =^.^=
~~~~~
This is a prayer for little paws
All up and down the land,
Driven away, no friendly voice
Never an outstretched hand.

For weary paws of little beasts
Torn and stained with red,
And never a home and never a rest,
Till little beasts are dead.

Oh God of homeless things, look down
And try to ease the way
Of all the little weary paws
That walk the world
today.

Good afternoon kitties! Hope you all had a pawsome weekend! Today's topic is: ALLERGIES!

Dogs & cats with allergies...you bet!!! Like their owners, many pets are sensitive to airborne annoyances--not just pollen or mold but also such things as dust, feathers and wool. Unlike humans, animals do not suffer from fever, red runny eyes and noses to sneezing attacks, but they do get all itchy.

CALM IT WITH COOL WATER: Giving your pet a cool-water soak{NO WAY!!} is a quick way to ease itchy skin.Bathe your pet for 5-10 minutes..make sure the water is cool, not cold or too warm, warm water aggravates the itch.

EASE IT WITH OATMEAL: To make soaks additionally soothing, vets sometimes recommend adding colloidal oatmeal{like Aveeno} to the bath water, it will help calm the crankiest itch!

ALLEVIATE WITH ANTIHISTAMINES: You can often bring allergies under control with antihistamines. Your vet may recommend an OTC drug like diphenhydramine {Benedryl} Your vet will tell you how much to give your pet.

SUBDUE IT WITH SUPPLEMENTS: To help calm itchy skin, try giving your pet fatty acid supplements which are used for relieving mange and other skin disorders. Your vet can recommend what type to give your pet.

KEEP HER INDOORS: In the Spring/Summer, Pollen is in the air--and in your furry friends coat and airways as well. To prevent pollen from pushing your pet around, keep her indoors as much as possible during pollen peak hours....early morning and evenings.

SMOOTH THE ROUGH EDGES: Carpet, heavy drapes and upholstery are variable magnets for dust & pollen. Try keeping your pets area free of drapes and carpet, you can use vinyl blinds over the windows.

CLEAN OFTEN: Daily cleaning will not eliminate dust and pollen, but it will keep it manageable. It is also a good idea to clean your pets bedding once a week. It is also a good idea to change your furnace/AC filters monthly.

LOOK TO THE LITTER: Many litter's contain chemical scents to make your cats bathroom smelling pretty...for you--not her. Try buying scentless and dust free litter.

FOR THOSE WITH DOGS: Dogs with allergies occasionally suffer from itchy feet and soaking them in Epsom salts can bring much relief. Fill the tub with just enough water to cover paws. Dissolve several cups of Epsom salts crystals in the water...stand your dog in the tub for 5-10 minutes, then gently dry her feet.

TOMORROW: When Fido or Fluffy BITE their humans!

Wow, I am really humbled to be in the special window the day after such a noble kitty as Angel K. Thomas! Thank you for coming to help me celebrate my 2nd COTD. I am loving the freeze-dried chicken treats, and I think I'm going to have to hide the fresh catnip from Evie. She goes a little wild on the stuff, mol.

So for my COTD, Mom said I could choose any ornament I wanted from the tree she put up yesterday, and take it down to play with it. Well, she didn’t actually SAY that, but that’s what I heard and today I captured my very first tree ornament. Mom made me let it go. Darn!

But what she doesn’t know is that I have a secret stash of Christmas tree balls and candy canes. I’ll set up the goal nets and we can play hockey. Gingerbread men are in goal, and when the game’s over we get to eat them with hot chocolate! Come on over, let’s have as much fun as we can before Mom catches us! -- Mojo Blackbear

Good afternoon kitties!! Today's topic is: SHEDDING!!!

Whether you have a short-haired calico{like me} or a long haired collie{like Lassie}, the coming of Summer means there are more then just pollen in the air. Your pet can drop 1000's of hairs a day when she's shedding her winter coat.

GIVE HIM THE BRUSH OFF: If you're going to do one thing when your pet is shedding, you should brush brush and more brush...not all brushes are the same..you will need one that's suited for your pet..something that works for a long haired coat will not work well on a short haired coat.

GO DEEP: For brushing to be effective, you need to use firm, deep strokes. Short strokes are better then long ones cause they penetrate the coat more thoroughly.

RUB HER THE WRONG WAY: After brushing your pet from head to tail, reverse direction and go against the fur. This will help loosen hair you may have missed the first time.

DON'T GIVE HER ANY STATIC: Brushing against the fur will occasionally be a shocking experience for you and your pet. Her coat can build up a static charge and you can spark her. To prevent this, use a static-free brush.

SWITCH TO A COMB: After giving your pet a thorough brushing, you can pick up loads of additional hair by switching to a comb.

CONDITION HIS COAT: Occasionally applying a small bit of conditioner will make her coat smoother and easier to brush {especially for long haired pets}.

FOR CATS ONLY:
PUT ON PROTECTION: While some cats love to be brushed, others hate it, and will try to claw you, so putting on a pair of gloves will help save your hands and arms from scratches.

GET A GRIP: Holding Fluffy firmly by the scruff of the neck will help control her wilder instincts during grooming.

TOMORROW: ALLERGIES!!!

Hi Dot!
Thank you for stopping by to help make my alleged birthday somewhat tolerable. It's a nasty day here, cold, foggy, and windy, and all I've been doing is looking out the window at nothing, or sitting by the fireplace trying to stay warm. And lazy old mom! Well, what can I say there? She's been no help at all! NO extras for my birthday today! No toys, no treats, no catnip cookies - NADA!! Didn't even sing "Happy Birthday"! Of course, she SAYS she's going shopping tomorrow (her excuse is that she wants to avoid the weekend crowds, but I suspect the real reason is football....) *grumble*

So anyway, there's a rumor that today is my birthday, but from what I can see around HERE, you sure could have fooled me! At least my pals from CC have been showing up. It's good to know who my REAL friends are! Here that mom?? *hint hint* I can always pack my little meager collection of toys and my limp catnip banana and head for the offices at CC Central! I'll bet they would LOVE to have me! Why, I'd be showered with gifts! Not that I want - or need - a shower.

Thanks again for stopping by. I brought you some leftover egg nog from Thanksgiving, I'm sure it's still good. Mostly. And also a few slivers of stale catnip that leaked out of one of my toys. Hey, it was all I could find! But at least I have a big thank you vote to leave with you, too! Have a great day!

QUEEN KELS KAT REMEDIES
Good evening kitties. Today is moms birthday so she got a cake from her co-workers. Happy birthday to my mom.

Today's Topic: BITES!!!!

They don't call it a dog-eat-dog world for nothing. Big dogs bite little dogs and vice versa. Dogs chase cats, and cats fight back. Even squirrels, skunks and other critters will occasionally throw their hats into the ring. Any bite is potentially dangerous, so if your pet gets bitten, see your Vet ASAP!!!!

START WITH A MUZZLE: It's natural for an animal in pain to lash out. To protect yourself, wrap your pets mouth before treating him. If you have no muzzle you can improvise by wrapping gauze, panty hose or even a length of twine or rope several times around your pets mouth. Then pull the ends together and tie behind their ears.

WRAP HER UP: If FLUFFY OR FIDO are too small for a muzzle, protect yourself by wrapping her head with a towel before starting treatment.

GET IT CLEAN: Trim the hair around the wound to make it easier to clean. Flush for at least 5 minutes with warm water. If the bite is ore than 24 hours old, bacteria may have already taken hold. Scrub the wound carefully with an antibacterial soap, then flush it with warm water.

ADD EXTRA PROTECTION: After washing & drying the bite, apply an OTC triple antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin. Then bandage the area with gauze to keep it clean...to keep gauze in place you can use clear first-aid tape.

KEEP IT LOOSE:When applying and taping a bandage to a wound, leave enough room to get your finger underneath. Anything tighter can interfere with your pets circulation.

ENCOURAGE HER INPUT: Once the bandage is removed, it's natural for a pet to lick their wounds. In most cases this isn't a problem. In fact, licking helps speed the healing process.

KEEP UP WITH SHOTS: Rabies is a viral disease that without treatment is almost always fatal--to both pets and people. Keep your pets vaccinations up to date.

WHEN TO SEE THE VET: Look for these danger signs.
If touching the area around the wound causes Fido or Fluffy to jerk away, the wound could be infected. Severe blood loss. Bites to the abdomen or to the throat, injuries in these areas can cause damage to the windpipe or internal bleeding. If a wild animal bites your pet, it could be rabid so get your pet to the vet right away.

Tomorrow: SHEDDING.

Good Morning kitties. Today's topic is: ASTHMA

It wasn't so long ago the only thing in your yard faster then your cat was the occasional fly lucky enough to get away. These days, even short outdoor romps are triggering asthma attacks causing wheezing, coughing and fatigue.

SHAVE OFF A FEW POUNDS: While every cat should be 'fit & trim', it's particularly important for cats with asthma. The signs of asthma can be worse if kitty is obese.

CRANK UP THE HUMIDIFIER: Breathing dry air irritates the airways, which can trigger attacks. Try putting a vaporizer or a humidifier to boost humidity levels to between 30 - 40%.

KICK THE HABIT: Surely your cat doesn't smoke, but 2nd hand smoke from you or your friends can make the problem worse. Pets are more vulnerable to smoke then people.

BRING HIM INDOORS: If you suspect hay fever is kicking off his attacks, it might help to keep him indoors at the height of pollen season.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT LITTER: Most cat litters puff up the dust whenever Fluffy starts to dig. Look for dust-free litter or use sand instead.

DO EXTRA CLEANING: Even small amounts of floating dirt & dust can trigger an attack, so it's important to keep your cats area squeaky clean.

FILTER OUT THE PROBLEM: If your home is heated & Cooled with a central system, consider installing an electrostatic filter...They can be expensive, but they do filter out some types of particles.

TRY SUPPLEMENTAL PROTECTION: Some vets believe that giving cats antioxidant vitamins, which apparently help 'neutralize' harmful oxygen molecules in the body, can help relieve a number of health problems, including asthma. Give your cat a childs does of Vitamin C or E once a week. Just crumble it up and put it in her food.

CALM KITTY'S KARMA: Asthma has long been linked to stress in pets as well as people. When asthma is flaring, it might be a good idea to nix activities that upset your feline, like going to the groomer or vacuuming the floor.

WHEN TO SEE THE VET: If your cat has just started coughing or wheezing, and has had asthma before, but the symptoms are getting worse, don't take chances. Call your vet right away...he can recommend what treatment is best for your feline friend.

TOMORROW: BITING.

Good afternoon kitties, today's topic is all about the JEALOUSY we all feel in multi-pet households!

Life with your pet used to be rosy. But these days the emotional hue is more jealousy. either a new human mate, a new baby or even another pet has entered your life. While pets don't jealousy the same as people do, that's not to say your little darlings don't feel a tad jealous.

DON'T DEMOTE HIM: No one enjoys being the bottom dog{or cat}, so try to make your pet feel special and loved before the source of the stress came into your life.

FEED HER FIRST: If a new pet is causing your pet to see 'green', be sure to give the 'original' pet top priority. No matter how irresistible a new pet may be, alwys feed your 1st pet first. Do the same when giving attention.

TREAD GENTLY: You might think that the new person in your life is making your furry friend jealous, but in fact he could be feeling fear. Have your new friend speak gently to your pet. With cats, be patient and him make the 1st move. The person should never approach the cat 1st and insist on being friends, that will never work.

FOR CATS ONLY!!!
PUT HER ON A PEDESTAL: It's important to realize cats feel more secure when they have a high vantage point. So make sure your cat has a place to climb to where she can sit and watch what is going on. If you can't add shelving to your walls buy cat trees which are readily available at most retailers and pet stores, or if you really feel creative, make your own, but be sure to carpet it and use some sisal rope as well.

MAKE INTRODUCTIONS SLOWLY: If you just got a new pet, don't don't give him the run of the house immediately. This will make your first cat go nuts. Keep the cats in separate areas for a day or two. Then trade off their areas so they get used to each other's scent. If the cats seem alright after 2 days, let them 'meet' face to face. However if they start growling and hissing, keep them separated for another few days..keep this up til the hissing stops...soon they will learn to live together in harmony.

FIGHTS: If 2 cats go at it in a fight, NEVER try to put your hand in the middle to break it up, you may be bitten or scratched. One sure way to get them separated is to keep a squirt bottle on hand, most cats hate to be squirted and will separate and run.

Good morning kitties!!! Today's Topic is: HEARTWORMS!!!

It's bad enough when you get bitten by a hungry mosquito--and spend the rest of the day scratching.

For dogs and cats, however, mosquitoes are more then just an itchy annoyance.In certain parts of the Country like the Gulf Coast & Atlantic Coast, they carry heartworms. Most heartworms occur in dogs, however, cats can be infected as well.

STOP THEM AT THE GATE: Vets recommend that ALL dogs and some cats be given preventive medicine. This way, even if your pet is bitten by a mosquito, the medication is his bloodstream will destroy the infection...see your vet for the proper medication and dosage!

DON'T BE OVER CONFIDENT: Even if your pet never ventures outdoors, it's always possible that a mosquito may be in the house. Both indoor and outdoor pets should see a VET regularly for preventive medication.

DON'T NEGLECT THE TEST: It may be dangerous to give heartworm preventive medicine to a pet already infected, which is why most Vets perform a blood test before prescribing medication.

INVEST IN SNUG SCREENS: While you can't entirely exclude mosquitoes from your life{or your house}, putting up tight fitting screens will help keep the numbers low.

INVITE FRIENDS TO DINNER: Putting a Purple Martin birdhouse in your yard will attract these voracious birds, which can eat thousands of insects a day...It is also a good idea to eliminate ponds or pools of standing water where mosquitoes love to breed.

FOR CATS ONLY: Heartworms occur less often in cats, which is why cats aren't given the preventive medicine. Keep kitty indoors as much as possible, especially at night when mosquitoes are more prevalent.

WHEN TO SEE THE VET: Once your pet gets heartworm, its a difficult condition to treat. The drugs used to eradicate the worms contain arsenic, which can be more dangerous then the disease. It is CRITICAL to see your pets vet at the first sign of symptoms, which include coughing, rapid breathing and fatique.

Hi Dame Dot and family!
It has been raining buckets since 4:30 this morning. Dad left for work early because he knew all the crazy drivers would be out and some of the roads flooded. He was right, but he made it there safely. His car is still in the shop getting worked on. The problem seems to be with the fuel in his car running too rich. (Whatever that means!) My pawrents have had the same mechanic for 20 years, so they trust him.

Since we are trapped inside the house and it’s very dark outside, Mom has us cats helping her put up Christmas decorations. Okay, we’re just supervising. MOL! Mom got worried when she couldn’t find me this afternoon, but she found me catnapping in the box with the Christmas tree blanket! I was really trying to find my Christmas gifts. Hee, hee, hee!

We hope everything is going great with the mew addition to your family. We were just thinking what a very happy holiday season this will be for your lovely orange tabby. God bless your sweet family! Give Shadow a warm hug for us. We always have your family in our prayers dear furiend.

Today is a double celebration! I won ★Cat Rescue of the Month★ for the ❸rd time. Mommy & I are happily surprised with this unexpected honor.
