wow we had some more nasty storms at home last night and it got one of our outlets that has a breaker and all the outlets on one side of the kitchen dont work and momma had to pull the fridge out and run a heavy drop cord to it.

momma also said she saw on the news this morning that a lady in oklahoma foune her two precious kitties after searching the debris for hours. one has a broken leg and the other is just fine. sure did put a big smile on momma's face
momma ordered and inspiron 15.6" with touch screen from dell. sure hope she likes it and it gets here soon so we can get to our hockey games again before playoffs are over.

We would have to hide in a bathtub! You know...I don't get it,for a place that has SO many tornado's...no-one has a basement!
I see you are glued to the baseball games agin-no better place to be! I'll bring by the peanuts and Cracker Jacks,we can hide the shells under the couch cushions,the pawrents will never know! Another scorcher today..we hit the mid 80's again. It was 90* yesterday and this is only May, can't imagine what July will be like.

They keep calling for rain, but it never comes, so mom keeps waterin' the flowers outside. We do not like the hose, so we come upstiars when she does that, she doesn't get us wet, but we are afraid the water will get us anyway.

Mom is all done painting her dresser and vanity in her room. She ordered a new white chest of drawers yesterday. Mom ordered a new headboard last month and it is white, so instead of replacing all the furniture in her bedroom, she painted it all white, but the chest of drawers is so damaged and the drawers are falling apart, so she ordered a new one.

Thanks also for my COTD win and my birthday wishes and gifts. I know this is late, but with 6 kitties, mom is usually behind with our blogs. I was pleasantly purr-prised by my COTD win, I was not expecting that at all. Thank you!!!

Next to declawing, the indoor-outdoor question is probably one of the hottest topics for debate, with both sides polarized to their own views. For those holdouts for letting cats roam free, consider more top reasons to keep cats indoors.

• Indoor Cats Do Not Get Hit by Cars. According to one source, more cats are killed by cars annually than are euthanized in U.S. animal shelters.

• Indoor Cats Are not a Danger to Wildlife. Let's face it; cats are predators, & left to their own devices outdoors, will eventually chase & kill birds, rabbits, & other small wildlife. Most of us would rather not see our cats cast in a killer role, & keeping them indoors will help protect wildlife to some degree.

• Indoor Cats Don't Get Lost. As outdoor cats widen their outdoor territories, they may become lost long enough to be "rescued" by other cat lovers, legitimate rescue groups, or picked up by animal control as strays. Statistics show that of "owned" cats turned in to shelters, only three percent are eventually relocated with their owners. Collars can break, & even microchips do not guarantee a cat will not be adopted & kept as an indoor cat by someone else. Why take the chance?

• Indoor Cats Are Not Stolen. “Bunchers” are people who sell cats to laboratories for animal experimentation or research. Their prime source of cats is on the street. Even a cat sitting on his front lawn is fair game for a buncher. Other people pick up cats for use as "bait" for training fighting dogs. Both categories of cat-knappers are the lowest of the low, but they are out there.

• Rarely mentioned, but equally serious, is the possibility of skin cancer from over-exposure to the sun. White & other light-colored cats can develop squamous cell carcinoma, a serious, painful disease.

I don't believe in wholesale statements beginning with, "If you love your cat, you'll do this & that for them." We humans feel different degrees of love for our cats & express our love in different ways. My stance on the indoor-outdoor issue is not "proof" one way or another of loving my cat more than the next guy, nor did my previous belief that cats deserve to be outdoors label me as a "bad" cat owner.

However, I do believe in personal responsibility for our decisions, & ultimately, our decisions may cost us the loss of a very good friend & family member. It's a matter of weighing the benefits against the risks, & being willing to suffer the consequences of our decisions.

Many cat lovers are now savvy that indoor cats are safer cats, while others still think that cats deserve freedom to run in the great outdoors. When humans domesticated cats, we took on the responsibility for their health & welfare. Part of that responsibility is to keep cats safe & in good health. For those holdouts for letting cats roam free, consider these top reasons to keep cats indoors.

• To Monitor Your Cat’s Urinary Tract/Bowel Health. With an outdoor cat, pet owners are unable to monitor painful attempts to urinate or poop. The first, a red flag warning for UTI or urinary tract blockage; the second, a red flag for constipation, bowel blockage or mega-colon.

• Indoor Cats Are Safe From Predators & Dog Packs. Outdoor cats are below predators in the food chain, & they are sitting ducks for owls, raptors, coyotes, & native big cats. Dogs running in packs will consider a cat fair game; even one large dog can easily overpower & kill a cat. Remember that some dogs are also bred to attack; they are not really to blame when their instinct takes over. Even with a full set of fangs & claws, the cat rarely has a chance when caught outside.

• Indoor Cats Don't Create Neighbor Problems. Even "well-bred" cats will venture into neighbors' yards when allowed to roam free. People who don't like cats will not tolerate cats using their gardens as litter boxes, & will sometimes resort to extreme measures to keep the cats out.

• Indoor Cats Rarely Get Abscesses From Fighting. Cats are very territorial & will defend their territory to the death, if challenged by another cat. At the very least, these territorial battles often result in abscessed wounds, which can be deadly if not treated in time. There's also the chance, of course, of cats contracting FIV from deep bite wounds.

• Indoor Cats Are Safe From Human Abuse. Freely-roaming cats are easy targets for gangs of youths with time on their hands, for cat-haters, who seek cats out for target practice, & for neighbors who would think nothing of killing a cat for trespassing on their property. Although animal protection laws are beefing up, prosecution will never bring a loved cat back to life.

• Indoor Cats Can Get Plenty of Exercise. Cats do get exercise, but they can get it safely with interactive toys, climbing towers, scratching posts, & other indoor toys; all much safer than running from dogs or fighting with other cats. Remember also that there are safe compromises for the outdoor experience.

looks like
we have another cool front coming south out of northern new england and going to keep us into the lower 70s instead of the lower 80s which was very comfortable here yesterday as janet sat out did some reading as well as falling asleep. she's still out of it seeing she's got the sinus-allergy flu bug and allergies and sinus combined just make it worse. on coricedrin hbp/zyrtec for allergies and the sinus infection she picked up as nat brought it home from work two weeks ago and had it himself, but very lightly that it's already gone. janet's first time getting sick all season and her sick time is used up as she pulled that ligament back in late january which knocked her out of work for 31/2 days. sandy,ana,haley,angels

good hearing that they at least had a good time and some-times vacations are very tiring especially if you have a lot planned. janet has enough, but not like jam packed as she usually has for every minute of the day. she and nat will be going to north conway nh, june 23-26, then home for 2 days and janet's off on a lighthouse cruise off the coast of maine and back to work the next day! wishes she was asking for that sunday off to rest, but can't afford to take time and a half sunday to laze around. sandy,ana, haley, angels

finally found your page, sorry, should've looked for it sooner please forgive. am soo happy to come by and mew hiya, you too are a Phillies fan (mol), shh, don't let it get around that we are also (we "support" ahem, the D-Backs), but it's always the home team we miss the most.

It has been over 100 here for the last couple days, but Friday we will "cool??" off - to 93??? Til it hits 112 they call it warm, after that its hot - don't ask me, I only repeat what the news stations say.

Ok, not to make excuses, but mom still has that terrible bowel infection, but not so bad, we think, she sees the doc next thursday - and he "will discuss it with her then, so he told dad. DUH??

well momma is at lunch now and gonna visit a bit. we are having great weather now. it is 81 and real pretty day. momma had a good mother's day as she went down and spent the day with gma.
we have been playing and such just being lazy kitties,

hhmmm, me thinks shaddy be kinda strange. he was laying in momma's lap and she was petting him and he wanted to play a bit, but then he started gettin his own tail now, and was grabbing and biting it and he started quarrelling at himself and even hissed at himself and then jumped down to the floor now is that strange or what!!!!!!!

we have missed our friends, but money got a bit tight with daddy out of work a whole month and momma says she has to get it built back up afore the home puter can be seen too

♥ This year, we would like to do something different with our 10th Year Adoptiversaries by introducing a SPECIAL kitty to you! While mom and dad was cleaning and going thru everything in the back room, mom came across a picture that she couldn’t find for a long time and thought it was gone forever. This picture is of a precious tiny kitten and will remain in mom’s heart♥. This tiny kitten’s name was PRINCESS KNIGHT and she was mine, Suezee’s & Rhoamin’s littermate sister.

♥ When we were just tiny kittens, running wild & free under our fur mama Baby’s 13286 care when PRINCESS found a way to our neighbors’ yard [mid July 2003] who has a Yellow Lab. That Lab was let out in their back yard and he seen PRINCESS. Mom & dad heard the little screams of pain & came running out in the back yard. The neighbor got a hold of their dog and dad went over the fence to get PRINCESS, but it was too late for her as dad handed her to mom. Mom was in such tears. PRINCESS was only 10 weeks young when she was killed. To this day, that dog is still next door to us so mom always worries us outside kitties.

It is another cold day here. Burr. We are in the 50's and the sun is mostly behind the clouds, but it comes out sometimes. It is supposed to warm back up later in the week and we cna't wait.

Mom let us go outside, but we didn't stay out long, we came back in the house, we like it just a bit warmer. It is also kinda windy and we do not like that either.

Mom took the bus out today and went to Joann-Fabrics as they are having a 50% off Sumnmer sale and she bought some flowers to wrap around the sides and top of the trellis and also got some birdies to sit on it...mom did take a picture of it and will post it when she empties her memory card.

Mom has a head cold from the changing weather. She is taking cold pills for it, she sneezes a lot. I cuddle with her at night to keep her warm so she will get better faster.

We had frost last night as it dipped into the low 30's, but mom flowers seemed to survive it. None have died or anything, and for that she is so happy. It was way to windy to go outside yesterday and get them or cover them.

Hello Kaylin
Thank you for your kind words, prayers & sweet thoughts. Like many of you, Mommy knows all too well about kidney disease. Her Dot passed away at the age of 17 from kidney disease & hyperthyroidism in October 2000. Mommy had hoped it would be a very long time before she was faced with this awful disease again. She will do her very best to give me the greatest care possible & lots of TLC.

I am eating the k/d canned and dry foods pretty well so far. Mommy says it is extremely difficult having one baby on a special diet. But we are doing our best with this situation & taking it one day at a time.

Thanks again for your prayers & concern. We really do appreciate it. Job 12:10 says “In God’s hands is the life of every creature.” We believe this to be true.

Finally quiet!
All the Mother's Day activity is done...not that there was a lot of activity. It was just SO hard to be good for an entire day-exhausting. I DID help Gma clean out closets. Worked fine until I got closed in one for an hour. She kept calling for me,and I meowed back-but she couldn't figure out where I was. DUH!!! I'm right where you left me!!! Nothing like getting stuck in a closet with a bunch of smelly shoes. My sniffer may never be the same.....

♥ Well, mom told Callie 239447 that she met her match!!!! Saturday morning mom just happened to look over at the end of the couch to see Sassee 10605 sitting on it, which mom thought was awfully strange cuz she never gets on that end table then she seen Callie hunkered down under the top shelf of the end table. Mom told Sassee to leave her alone then mom had to pry Callie out from under that shelf part!!!! That's the first time Callie's been scared. Mom told Callie not to mess with Sassee especially when Sassee's in pain!!!! Sassee is the ALPHA girl inside!!!! No one was hurt!!!!

♥ Mom opened dad's window after she finished her kitty chores so we could go out in the cattery. Funny thing is though, she had it boarded up with plywood as it's suppose to rain today and she didn't want everything getting wet. At least we got the fresh air as well as relaxing out there!!!!

♥ Mom and dad didn't do much xcept relaxed and watched a couple movies on tv then some recorded shows on the DVR.

♥ Mom took the first cuttings of two roses today from her rose bushes. One is of her Angel Face which has a beautiful fragrance and the other is Jacobs Coat.

Hi Kaylin,
Well,mom had the gbaby yesterday and today,so mom played with the G'baby a lot and dad rode her around in a little cart full of hay pulled by the lawn mower! She really loved that,and while mom waited for them to come back,I got lots of lap time and petting! Later,mom made triple chocolate fudge cupcakes,loaded the G'baby down with a couple,and is sending her home...hyper!,Hehe!! Hope your day was good!~Purrs,Bart

The temperature was high 84 & low was 49 this morning, now it's 82 with humidity 46% & wind is 0 MPH. Sunday's suppose to be Rain & High 74.

♥ After mom finished with helping Sausha 22506 & Teakee 25544 with their Adoptiversary Thank Yous last night, mom changed my profile photo then afterwards she got off the computer then she sat on the couch so I jumped up on her lap for my lovings.

♥ Mom and dad did a BIG SURPRISE to all of us inside kitties today. First thing this morning after mom got her kitty chores done, she went to The Veterinary Hospital to buy a can of "Siphotrop Plus II" spray @ $28.00 then mom made us all go out in the cattery [xcept for Callie, Kittzi & Sylvr Tuff] then she closed dad's bedroom window so we couldn't come inside. How CRUEL is that???? Then after mom got everything put up and away, she put Callie 239447 in a carrier then out in the back room and then she put Kittzi 160203 & Sylvr Tuff into their carrier then in the back room also. Mom made dad go out to the back room as well then mom started the spraying process then she. too went in the back room.

♥ While the spray was drying, mom & dad came in the cattery with stuff in their hands and closed the cattery door when they were in with us. Dad held us one by one on the bench while mom sprayed us down with Frontline Spray and worked it into our fur with her fingers then when she was done she brushed each of us!!!!

♥ Mom also washed all the beddings and such from dad's bed, the couches and kitty beds which was about 7 loads of wash!!!! So, we have all been flea sprayed in between our monthly flea treatments plus the main part of the house has been flea treated as well. This year is really bad for fleas.

Heck,you can show up here anytime! Who knows where the Gma is half of the time,she'll never know. Actually,as long as I'm good,and entertained,she doesn't mind who drops by! I hear ya girlie,thunder and lightning creeps the fur off me. Guess what I got her today for Mother's Day?? TWO catnip plants! She already warned me I wasn't allowed to eat the entire plant at once,like I did last year. Grab a bib,I'll share :)

Hello Kaylin
How are you? Yesterday I visited Dr. William for my annual checkup, blood work (CBC, 6-panel, T3 & T4), shots and 3-month Schirmer eye test. First the good news – my eyes are doing well.

Mommy’s intuition told her something was going on with me, so now the not-so-good mews. I am in the very early stages of kidney disease:
My BUN level = 38 (normal is 16-36)
My Creatinine = 2.6 (normal is .8-2.4)

Dr. William says we caught this early. For now, we are going to treat it by changing my diet to Prescription Diet k/d. So far, I am eating both the k/d canned and the k/d dry food. We will recheck my levels in 3 months.

I also have a UTI, so I am taking Clavamox, the wonder drug. My thyroid level (T4) is in the “grey area” so Dr. William sent some of my blood to Texas A&M so they can run a test called T4 by Equilibrium Dialysis. We should receive those results next week.

As you can imagine, Mommy is very upset, stressed, & worried about me. Please keep us in your prayers.

Friday purrs from the NICE Crew
Happy Friday everycat! It's a very cool, wet day around here & mom's sinuses are causing her head to hurt so I've got to make this short & sweet so we can convince her she needs to take a nap with us.
I was whacking at Fluffernut earlier today because she keept trying to take away the toy I dragged out of the basket to play with. Trixie saw the commotion & got her attention so that she'd race with her for a while before I did her bodily harm that would have her hiding under the bed the rest of the day...MOL! Zaboo gave all of us 'the look' a few minutes ago so we're now snuggled on our favorite blankets with dreamland right around the corner. YAWN...cloudy day + orneriness= 4 very sleepy kitties...MOL!
Well got to go because my eyes are getting very heavy & Zaboo is giving mom a hint that naptime is here by trying to lay on her laptop as she types.

Just a reminder that we won't be doing anything but daily voting until Monday.

A Word With Whiskers – May 10

The gray tuxedo kitten decided he would live with us after his feral mother was hit by a car and died. His tiny feet looked like little white socks so we named him Baby Socks. We fed him and talked to him until he finally trusted us enough to pet him and pick him up. We took him to the vet for shots and neutering. Even still, he was not an inside cat. He wanted to patrol his own domain outside. However, when I would sit outside, he would jump into my lap, his white feet kneading my legs.

We were also owned by a 10 lb Yorkie named Sugar. Baby Socks got used to her using ‘his’ backyard. They formed a truce where she didn’t chase him and he didn’t hiss at her. Baby Socks grew to weigh 20 lbs., twice the size of the dog.

At the same time, Sugar grew older. By age 16, she had cataracts in both eyes. Due to age and numerous health problems, Sugar went blind. Despite her blindness she knew how to navigate the rooms in the house, and we left the furniture in place so she wouldn’t get confused or hurt.

We did worry about her going out in the yard. A slope ran down to a creek where snakes or raccoons could harm her. We took her on trips to the bathroom and made sure she was able to follow our voice back to the door.

Eventually Sugar lost her hearing. We had to watch her every move when she was outside and pick her up to bring her back inside.

It wasn’t long before we noticed Baby Socks was following Sugar whenever she was in the yard. If she got too close to the slope, he got in front of her and nudged her in the right direction, safely to the door. He became her self-appointed “seeing-eye cat”! Sugar died when she was 17. Baby Socks seemed to know she was gone, but he watched whenever we opened the back door, just in case.

He still patrols the yard. I tell him what a good cat he is and maybe we might get another dog someday. He doesn’t seem impressed. If that day comes, I’m sure Baby Socks will once more work out a truce, and a friendship, with whatever new canine enters his domain.

Mom has gone to lots of Hershey Bears games over the years with her brother & his family. Now they are the AHL for the Caps. Hawks are up 3-1 and play in Chicago tonight. Mom is hoping they wrap up the series. Nothing new. Nancy was here this morning for Mom's therapy and we both tried to help. Good thing Nancy is a pet purrson. She was pretty tough on Mom. Therapy is going well. Mom got out to walk down to Borough Hall to pay her taxes. We are both napping here. Mom is waiting for her hockey game to start. Leaving a vote. Peace & love. ♥ We got to stay out in the cattery til about 10:30 last night then mom made us come back in. This morning after mom did the kitty chores, she opened dad's bedroom window so we could go out in the cattery again for the day.

♥ Mom bought her a new weedeater at Wal*Mart since her other one quit early last year. This morning about 8:00 mom went out in the back yard to use her new weedeater for the first time and got the whole back yard done. Most of the grass was about 4 feet tall so the weedeating took longer. Mom got it done in about 2 hours. She said she will do the mowing tomorrow back there. Sissee 11531 watched mom and mom told her she was surprised she didn't run into hiding like all the other outside kitties!!!!

♥ UPDATE 5/09: SASSEE'S 10605 front legs are swollen pretty good again from her arthritis. Mom thinks maybe cuz she goes out in the cattery which means walking down and back up on the ramp at about a 45 degree climb!!!! She loves being out in the cattery as well. She also gets her daily dose of 2 pills of Dasuquin. She's pretty good at taking them for mom!!!!

♥ SYLVESTER 11567 has been limping the last few days on one of his front legs. Mom has brought him in the back room yesterday to check him out good, but couldn't find anything so he may have jumped wrong and hurt it. Mom's keeping watch on him closely!!!!

Hi Kaylin,
We've been having a lot of rain lately, but not much in the way of thunderstorms!!
We are weird about t-storms anyway!! Button is afraid of everything else but thunder doesn't bother him- Daddy says this is because we used to live in the flight pattern of a Naval Air Station, so he's used to loud noises from the sky!! Bella on the other hand is usually very bold, but she hides from thunder- Daddy thinks this is because she was a stray that lived outside when she was little and thunder always meant bad news for her back then!!
We hope that this evening is alot better for you!!
