we hit a
record 96 here yesterday! much hotter than predicted of the lower 80s! weather people sure goofed! had boomers since midnight and was raining pretty good till just a little while ago. janet's hoping to get in her early mor-ning walk, but doesn't look to good, but she's behind in blogging getting up a half hour later. she was with master at er due to him falling uptown outside of his eye dr's yesterday as nat brought him home and just a slight sprain right wrist and bruised rib, but nothing else wrong and is his normal grouchy self. sandy,ana,haley,angels

well..we all understand taht sleeping is a higher priority..hehe..especially if the humans are working so many hours and ot, too..tell your mom to rest and just come by when she can..we will be here..stuck inside..sigh...it's cool, cloudy and rainy this week and temps will be hard to get into the 60's. mom says she thinks winter is back..hehe...but we like t he cooler weather..it means i can stay out longer..well..i would like to anyway..but mom doesn't want to be out when it's cold..says she has to cuz she can't trust me to behave myself by myself..like today..i started climbing tath ol' fence right in front of her..geesh..i can tell you..i got whisked inside so quick i didn't even have a chance to growl..hehe..

Pearl Harbor, Honolulu … This memorial is a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives on a fateful day which launched the US into World War II when the Japanese military attacked on December 7, 1941.

Wikipedia tells us Pearl Harbor is a lagoon harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, west of Honolulu. Much of the harbor and surrounding lands is a United States Navy deep-water naval base. It is also the headquarters of the United States Pacific Fleet. The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Japan on Sunday, December 7, 1941 brought the United States into World War II. On December 8, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan. In return, December 11, 1941, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States.

The USS Arizona Memorial is the most recognized icon of World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument, a unit of the National Park Service. Access is gained through the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. Upon entering the visitor center, we head to the NPS Tickets & Information desk where we obtain free tickets for the USS Arizona Memorial program. While waiting for the tour to begin, we rent an audio tour headset, and explore the bookstore and exhibit galleries.

We watch a 75-minute program in one of two theaters. It includes a brief introduction to set the tone for the visit and a 23-minute documentary film which includes actual footage of the attack. After the film, we climb aboard a Navy-operated shuttle boat to the USS Arizona Memorial. Note: There are no public restroom facilities on the Memorial so we make quick stops before boarding our shuttle.

The Memorial spans the USS Arizona, a sunken WWII battleship which is the final resting place for most of her 1,177 Sailors and Marines killed in the December 7th attack. In the shrine room, we find a marble wall with the names of all of these men. In addition, we see a smaller marble wall, which lists the names of USS Arizona Survivors who, since passing away, have returned to their shipmates by having their ashes interred inside the fourth gun turret by Navy and NPS divers.

It is important to realize this is not a tourist attraction, but a memorial and grave that deserves to be treated with respect and reverence. This is a place of learning, reflection, and quiet contemplation.

Following our Pearl Harbor visit, we dine at a Five Diamond Hawaii Regional Cuisine restaurant, enjoying wonderful fish and local produce. The pineapple here is so very sweet. Tomorrow, we must head for the Dole Plantation.

Next to declawing, the indoor-outdoor question is probably one of the hottest topics for debate, with both sides polarized to their own views. For those holdouts for letting cats roam free, consider more top reasons to keep cats indoors.

• Indoor Cats Do Not Get Hit by Cars. According to one source, more cats are killed by cars annually than are euthanized in U.S. animal shelters.

• Indoor Cats Are not a Danger to Wildlife. Let's face it; cats are predators, & left to their own devices outdoors, will eventually chase & kill birds, rabbits, & other small wildlife. Most of us would rather not see our cats cast in a killer role, & keeping them indoors will help protect wildlife to some degree.

• Indoor Cats Don't Get Lost. As outdoor cats widen their outdoor territories, they may become lost long enough to be "rescued" by other cat lovers, legitimate rescue groups, or picked up by animal control as strays. Statistics show that of "owned" cats turned in to shelters, only three percent are eventually relocated with their owners. Collars can break, & even microchips do not guarantee a cat will not be adopted & kept as an indoor cat by someone else. Why take the chance?

• Indoor Cats Are Not Stolen. “Bunchers” are people who sell cats to laboratories for animal experimentation or research. Their prime source of cats is on the street. Even a cat sitting on his front lawn is fair game for a buncher. Other people pick up cats for use as "bait" for training fighting dogs. Both categories of cat-knappers are the lowest of the low, but they are out there.

• Rarely mentioned, but equally serious, is the possibility of skin cancer from over-exposure to the sun. White & other light-colored cats can develop squamous cell carcinoma, a serious, painful disease.

I don't believe in wholesale statements beginning with, "If you love your cat, you'll do this & that for them." We humans feel different degrees of love for our cats & express our love in different ways. My stance on the indoor-outdoor issue is not "proof" one way or another of loving my cat more than the next guy, nor did my previous belief that cats deserve to be outdoors label me as a "bad" cat owner.

However, I do believe in personal responsibility for our decisions, & ultimately, our decisions may cost us the loss of a very good friend & family member. It's a matter of weighing the benefits against the risks, & being willing to suffer the consequences of our decisions.

it's
our guess that a lot of areas especially here in the northeast need rain and bad as we've had some, but not enough to make a dent in the drought we have going on here now although things are greening up, other parts are now stating to turn yellow and drying up! janet's got to get her garden covered with netting so that means after she's back from her 7:45 dr's appt. she's hoping nat will be up and that they can get it done before it starts to turn hot as the 80s and high humidity are in play with boomers for this afternoon for today.

Greetings to all! Marley, thank you for the salami catnip; it also is one of my favourites. My Mama lets me eat little bits of salami when she's having it. Yes, our weather is really getting hot. Today we only had 94* but with 8% humidity. Not a chance of rain anywhere for us. It's good you help your Mom do her exercises and zumba. I'm sure she appreciates your help. Hi Angel Marley!
The outside kitties were on edge this morning, as was Mom when she opened the garage and smelled skunk! My Mom got out her flashlight and tennis racket and went out walking along the street, to hopefully scare it away if the skunk was still nearby. Thank goodness the coast was clear. Not sure what Mom would have done if she had run into the skunk. :( Whitey and Orangie ate fine; everyone just seemed a bit nervous.

Purrs and hugs. Give your Mom a hug for us too and don't let her work too hard! Thanks for the concatulations to me and Talley on our engagement! We are two happy kitties!

Many cat lovers are now savvy that indoor cats are safer cats, while others still think that cats deserve freedom to run in the great outdoors. When humans domesticated cats, we took on the responsibility for their health & welfare. Part of that responsibility is to keep cats safe & in good health. For those holdouts for letting cats roam free, consider these top reasons to keep cats indoors.

• To Monitor Your Cat’s Urinary Tract/Bowel Health. With an outdoor cat, pet owners are unable to monitor painful attempts to urinate or poop. The first, a red flag warning for UTI or urinary tract blockage; the second, a red flag for constipation, bowel blockage or mega-colon.

• Indoor Cats Are Safe From Predators & Dog Packs. Outdoor cats are below predators in the food chain, & they are sitting ducks for owls, raptors, coyotes, & native big cats. Dogs running in packs will consider a cat fair game; even one large dog can easily overpower & kill a cat. Remember that some dogs are also bred to attack; they are not really to blame when their instinct takes over. Even with a full set of fangs & claws, the cat rarely has a chance when caught outside.

• Indoor Cats Don't Create Neighbor Problems. Even "well-bred" cats will venture into neighbors' yards when allowed to roam free. People who don't like cats will not tolerate cats using their gardens as litter boxes, & will sometimes resort to extreme measures to keep the cats out.

• Indoor Cats Rarely Get Abscesses From Fighting. Cats are very territorial & will defend their territory to the death, if challenged by another cat. At the very least, these territorial battles often result in abscessed wounds, which can be deadly if not treated in time. There's also the chance, of course, of cats contracting FIV from deep bite wounds.

• Indoor Cats Are Safe From Human Abuse. Freely-roaming cats are easy targets for gangs of youths with time on their hands, for cat-haters, who seek cats out for target practice, & for neighbors who would think nothing of killing a cat for trespassing on their property. Although animal protection laws are beefing up, prosecution will never bring a loved cat back to life.

• Indoor Cats Can Get Plenty of Exercise. Cats do get exercise, but they can get it safely with interactive toys, climbing towers, scratching posts, & other indoor toys; all much safer than running from dogs or fighting with other cats. Remember also that there are safe compromises for the outdoor experience.

♥ I come to you with still a heavy heart with the loss of my beautiful SAMANTHA 15442.

♥ Thank you all for such loving support, Condolences, ecards, emails, phone calls & prayers. You have all been such good & understanding friends for my late reply back to you.

♥ I was just talking to & praising Aunt Samantha for how proud I was of her for her age & still so healthy for being a feral kitty. She loved her pettings, but hated being held. She was the last of the original little kittens that were brought here by her fur mama & fur dad in July 1998. We loved her dearly during her 14 years & 1 month of life with us.

♥ Aunt Samantha was a gentle little Lady, but she was also very feisty when she wanted to be. She stood up to the raccoons that came & gone. She would actually leap from where she laid on the patio table & swat a raccoon as the raccoon would cover it's face for protection from Samantha. I thought a raccoon would hurt or kill Samantha, but never in a million years it would be two Pit Bulls! I thought our back yard was safe from dogs.

♥ AUNT SAMANTHA & Daphne were laid to rest, together, in our back yard next to Samantha's littermate sister, Baby 13286.
I took 3 pix of Samantha on 8/17 which had been added to her picture gallery.

♥ Thank you to Leo's 188022 Momma Kat for making an online petition in regards of Aunt Samantha & Daphne then mailing it with over 500 signatures to our Police Chief;
Dolly's 222609 Momma Janada for all her help with informing FaceBook friends, advice & so much more.
Boo Kitty's 154855 Momma Jane & Pete's 72572 dad Mike for filing a complaint against Employees of our Police Dept as mom received a letter from the Police Auditor saying "This matter was reviewed by the Auditor and was classified as a Service Complaint/Performance and has been forwarded to a police supervisor for follow up."
Thank you to all others who has done so much in Samantha's Honor. There's too many to list & ones I don't even know about who has done something for my baby girl! I appreciate everyone!

♥ I received a local call from a lady (who lost her cat to a Pit Bull 3 yrs ago as well as her neighbor) who seen our interview on the local news station as she had asked me if I would also write to the Register Guard Editor so I have one to be sent soon via email. It's been a hard day with writing this letter. I will see if they will print it or not!

Just like many others here on CC, we have not felt much like blogging these past few days. But we have decided that maybe the horrible tragedy that took Aunt Samantha from us will somehow bring us all closer. The loss of a friend is like that of a limb – time may heal the anguish of the wound, but the loss cannot be repaired.

So during this sad time, we would like to leave this poem with you in honor of Aunt Samantha:

Thanks for keeping me in your prayers, Mom gets very worried about me, but knows she is doing everything she can to make my life good, I get around pretty good and can get on the furniture because she has little benchs all around, I get breakfast in bed every morning because Mom does not want me to get up too much and I really enjoy that, when I am done eating I make lots of noise and meow and growl till Mom clears my empty plate and I have my full area back to lay down (MOL) I am not spoiled at all!!!! Hope you are having a great day over the bridge!!! Purrs...Bombay

You mom did loose a child in a fur coat. My mom misses me so much, it will be five years end of May. She still calls one of my sisters my name when she gets fluster. hehe

Hi My Best Buddy Angel Marley
I had to come by today and Say Hi since it is the day you crossed the rainbow bridge!!!! We all miss you and hope you are enjoying being a Angel!!!! I hope you know my brother ANgel Copper, I never met him, but I heard he was a very nice kitty. It is sunny and cold here in Denver today, and I had acupuncture and laser treatment this morning, Mom says I was a very good boy and did not growl and hiss too much. I have been sleeping the rest of the day, all that wears me out!!! I am doing better and gained 1 oz so the vet was glad about that, I only weight 8lbs and they want me to gain a couple if I can, Mom says I can have all I want from her but that does not seem to work. Well we are going to leave you some catnip flavored temptations , a beautiful red pointsetta , and some fancy feast to enjoy!!! Have a purrfect day, we miss you!!!! It seems that most of you prefer to stay home for the holidays, & have excellent manners.....just like me!
But for those of you who might need to travel, I have some helpful questions your pawrents can ask of your potential host or hostess:

*Ask how the family really feel about animals
*Are the children of the house afraid of them
*Does the family know what to expect from a four-legged visitor
*if they have pets of their own, how do their animals get along with others

*Ask if there will be a separate room for you and your pawrents to hang out and chill together, just in case their kids decide to scare you, or their pet makes some threatening moves! They might suggest keeping you in a crate in the middle of all of the hustle and bustle...but that is not an acceptable solution for a visiting pet!
