About Me

Active within 4 Days

Hi! My name is Edina

I am a Maine Coon from Jefferson Township, NJ

Nicknames:

Age: 13 years old

Gender: F

Coat: long haired

Education: There is NO PLACE that Edina can't get to! She is the Olympic Athlete of cats.

My favorite tricks and treats are: I climb my post - see pictures at the bottom. I also remember where toys are in Grandma and Grandpas house even after not being there for months! and I won't eat human food! Dental Temptations are the only treat that I will eat. It must be my secret to staying thin all these years!

Where I hang out: On the tiny platform at the very top of my cat tree. I hang over the edge because I am so big!

My favorite grubs: Fancy Feast with Gravy! I also have to have 11 Dental Temptations every morning - not 10 or 9 - must be 11!

My pet peeves: I hate it when there is no knitting going on or no one to drag my toys for me.

What I love about my owners: She is almost as sweet as me.

My cat hobbies: Play! Play! and more Play! I am also now teaching this puppy at the bottom of the screen everything he needs to know!

Pet motto: No worries. Also my date of birth is Aug 17, 2002. Thank you to everyone who is coming by to wish me Happy Birthday - don't forget to have some of the yummy tuna cake! Thank you to Boo Kitty for the image.

How We Met

Edina was born at the Dotcom Cattery in England and moved to the Coonwyck Cattery in Indiana at 4 months of age. I found her on the Internet and adopted her when she was 2 years old being retired from cattery life. We live in NJ but travel often, which I love. China Blue - Cat # 49171 is my Cousin!

♥ WHYSKRS #10378 seen Dr. Nancy Monday morning and had to stay til the afternoon to give some pee since he empty his bladder before going there. His Results came back with a few Crystals and a slight UTI as mom caught him early. He got a Convenia injection and sent home. He goes back for a Re-check August 1st which mom will drop him off early morning and go back about 11:00. He always goes poo and sometimes pee on the way to the vet in the carrier.

♥ SATURDAY 7/17: Everyone had their pawdicures and Revolution treatment then treats. I didn't get the Revolution since I'm not well. Mom had asked Dr. Nancy about it and she agreed with mom not to.

♥ I'm still mostly having down days as keeping to myself sleeping in the bath tub. Mom checks on me periodically.

♥ Tuesday was a fairly good day for me as I stayed in the front room mostly and even had mom hold me lots as well as this morning. Mom gives me my Fluids daily and I have been eating my wet food mostly with an occasional dry food in between times. The last couple early mornings I have been waking mom up to lay on her pillow and snuggle with her. That makes her and me both feel good as I give mom purrs.

♥ As mom was on her way to buy a bag of SubQ Fluids and such at Shaw Med, Dr. Nancy had returned mom's call on mom's cell. She asked mom about me and mom told her that she thinks I should continue with the fluids so Dr. Nancy said ok and that if Shaw Med needed a script to call her, but mom didn't need it.

Thank you Edina!
Thanks for stopping by to congratulate Catty Shack on what will no doubt be their final COTD. It's a bittersweet celebration, but we can sit in the shade. sip some iced catnip tea, and reminisce about the good times here. And yes, even some of the bad. All the memories are precious, because they were shared with so many friends.

Thanks for the memories. I hope we will meet again someday, somewhere.

♥ I have been having good days of eating and feeling better. She was outside this morning and heard me meowing loudly so she came in quickly to see what was wrong. She seen what I did and praised me as I have captured one of our big mousies out of the toy basket!!!! Mom's sure happy about seeing me feeling better!!!! Mom is giving me my Fluids daily and I'm being a good boy for her.
We Thank You for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers!!!!

♥ WHYSKRS #10378 has about one more pound to lose to reach his goal of 15 lbs. He now weighs 16.15 as of Thursday.

♥ Mom had dad take a picture of her standing next to her 6+ foot tall tomato plant in the back yard.

♥ Mom’s step/adopted brother (our Uncle John) was found in the Willamette River Tuesday evening (July 12th) which is also the day he turned 49. Cause unknown and still under investigation. The Medical Xaminer says he's been in the river for at least a couple days. He & his brother did have a bad start when born due to parents fault with taking drugs. Mom helped raise John for a few years. They are having a Potluck Celebration of Life on Sunday afternoon.

♥ I had a bad weekend and Dr. Nancy returned mom's call Monday morning and said to bring me in Monday afternoon @ 3:15 with Patch Girl. So Dr. Nancy did my Bloodwork then instead of waiting til this Thursday.
MY Bloodwork Results is that I am in KIDNEY FAILURE, but also low on my Potassium so now I have to take TUMIL-K pill every 12 hours. I lost 1.4 pounds since last Thursday which now I weigh 10.2 pounds. Mom also has to give me 100cc of Fluids with Potassium added.

♥ How sad that CC is Finally closing their doors with CC website going off purr*mantly!!!! Once CC is no longer then we will go to YouPet.com when mom's ready. We have enjoyed meeting so many friends since September 13, 2006.

♥ More sad news is MY Bloodwork Results. My Calcium level is back in the Normal, but many others have gotten worse as well as my Anemia. Dr. Nancy even mentioned possible Cancer, but will know more once she confers with Specialist Dr. Donna who was unavailable this morning.

♥ This is Mom~Lillian saying Thank You for stopping by to Honor my SIX boy #10139 on his 10th Year Forever Sleep Anniversary which made him win his 8th COTD Badge.

♥ Six was a feral kitty and also a Polydactyl on all four paws. I loved massaging his big paws as did he. He was also my big time snuggler on the couch! I never had a kitty that would just lay on the couch for hours all snuggled up against me that long without moving, but by 4:00am he'd wake me up as it was time for him to go outside!

♥ Thank you also for the sweet messages with the wonderful Gifts, poems, flowers, etc.

♥ PATCH GIRL #12767 had her Cold Laser Therapy treatment today at 3:45 and doing well.

♥ My precious RHOAMIN #2921 is breaking my heart seeing him in pain and not getting any better. He sleeps so much and not eating so well. I have been spending lots of time with him when he wants held. He has also been sleeping on my pillow at night with me so I put my arm around him. He still loses his balance most everyday.

♥ He goes in Thursday morning for Bloodwork to check his Calcium level. Please continue to pray for K. RHOAMIN!

♥ My heart just hasn't been into being on the computer along with recovering from a bad back. The Flexural makes me sleepy even with taking only a half pill.

Dr. Nancy did all the Dental cleaning then they called momma to let her know I was in recovery. There were no Xtractions, but did have a couple complications while under anesthesia.

Dr. Nancy told momma that my Glucose went way down to 27 before starting then later went above 600. Dr. Nancy took good care of me as did the staff and now I'm home doing good. Momma was sent home with a 3-Day supply of Onsior pain pills for me. I'm doing good today and pretty much back to my normal!

Seems my Diabetes isn't ready to go in to remission yet and Dr. Nancy told momma not to worry bout my Glucose level not getting under 100 as she was surprised it got way down to 108. Momma will be taking another reading on it Thursday afternoon.

Momma hopes to help me get on CC Thursday afternoon as it's my 4 year Official Adoptiversary!

Hi Edina!
I remember Tookie now. I remembered they had a cockatiel, but couldn't remember his name. Mom is starting to think that Woody will outlive her!

It's nice that your family has grown, but you be sure to keep reminding those siblings who the boss is!

♥ I am still eating, but slacked off just a little on the intake. I'm unable to jump up on the table like I used to as I end up falling hard. Mom quickly comes to get and hold me. I have to have another blood draw on July 7th in order to re-check my Calcium level.

♥ Mom and dad has a busy week ahead with appointments then on Friday, they both have to go to an "Accidental Overdose" class for one hour at the VA Clinic as they want mom to know what to do in case anything ever happened to dad. Dad's never had an issue with abusing his medications, but they are trying to get all the veterans into the program.

♥ PATCH GIRL #12767 has a 3:00pm Cold Laser Therapy treatment on Monday. She may have to have them twice a week instead of once a week as she's starting to "stove up" again plus she cried out for the first time in quite awhile.

♥ CALLIE'S #239447 Glucose reading went up again to 179 on 6/17 so mom called The Veterinary Hospital to set up a Dental appointment for Callie which is this Tuesday morning. She will be going under anesthesia.

♥ Mom added RHAEVYN'S profile to the YouPet.com, but won't be very active yet. Mom plans on adding Sonnjae's profile eventually there, too!!!!

♥ Well, I have been eating much better and starting to get my strength back. The Gabapentin medication still makes me a bit loopy, but that's getting better, too, then mom will try me on the full dose again soon.

♥ SATURDAY: Mom took RHAEVYN to the First Avenue Shelter to get a FREE xam in order for mom to buy more Comfortis Flea Med which will be given to NeuBee #123633. Rhaevyn weighed in at 10 pounds and the vet thought her to be close to 4 years old which mom thought as well.

♥ TUESDAY: Mom put in a call to Dr. Jessie as PATCH GIRL #12767 was back to her sneezing. She called mom back to let mom know she would call in a script for Azithromycin antibiotic to Wal*Mart so mom had to pick it up when it was ready.

♥ Dad finally got to see his PA at the VA Clinic on Wednesday at 11:00am. They did two X-rays on his lower back and will have more tests done soon. He is still in a lot of pain and most times hard for him to stand up straight. Looks like mom will be busier with taking dad to upcoming appointments and even less time on CC!!!!

♥ CALLIE'S #239447 Glucose reading went back up some so mom's taking the reading about every three days. It's at 127 and dropping back down.

♥ Mom and dad both loves to see me playing and racing around the house! Mom tells me I need to slow down some so I don't get hurt. There's been a couple times I went to run and jump up on the window bed and missed, but I was ok!

♥ Things are going fairly well for all of us Knight kitties which makes mom happy!

♥ We may not be on Thursday afternoon as mom and dad has to take dad's laptop to Michael, our computer guy, as he has to put in the new battery and make sure all it working well.

The Christmas countdown has begun....
Tis the busy time of year, filled with lots of Christmas cheer! Gifts are wrapped & stockings are hung....& we're trying really hard to stay on Santa Paws good list! Mom doesn't make it easy to do either since she puts pretty bows on the packages & tinkling bells on the trees...MOL!

We've been having very warm weather for December so having a white Christmas this year isn't looking like it's going to happen. The kids will be taking their finals at school this week & doing any holiday concerts/events before their last day on Friday. Dad will be off most of next week too & mom will be baking goodies to give as gifts so it will still be very busy around here...which means my meowing will still be limited for a while.

Now for a little Christmas story that I hope will make you giggle:

One beautiful December evening Huan Cho and his girlfriend Jung Lee were sitting by the side of the ocean. There was a romantic full moon, and Huan Cho said, "Hey baby, let's play Weeweechu."
"Oh no, not now. Lets just look at the moon", said Jung Lee.
"Oh, c'mon baby, let's you and I play Weeweechu. I love you and it's the perfect time," Huan Cho Begged.
"But I had rather just hold your hand and watch the moon."
"Please Jung Lee, just once... play Weeweechu with me."
Jung Lee looked at Huan Chi and said, "OK, we'll play Weeweechu."
Huan Cho grabbed his guitar and they both sang...
"Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year."

I'll meow again when I can!

Loving hugs & happy purrs,

Hi Edina!
Mom and I have to apologize for being so late to send out our thank yous to all who came by to concatulate me on receiving my COTD award on Nov. 22nd. It was on a Sunday and Sundays are so busy. I thought I would be able to get them out the next day or so, but that didn't happen. Our doggy sis, Molly had a vet appointment on the 23rd at UT in Knoxville, TN. Many of you know of her struggle with hyperparathyroidism. It led to surgery to remove two of her parathyroid glands. Mom was a basket case with worry and just didn't have the mind set to help me with me with them. So, after 9 days in the vetspital, Molly came home and Mom has been giving her lots of medicine. She is doing better, but it'a a long recovery. Anyway, thanks so much for coming by. Thank you for the big plate of tuna, too. I hope you got your goody bag when you left. I had a wonderful time and it was made very special by your presence.

I'm leaving you a vote and wishes for a very blessed evening and sweet dreams. Take care and I love ya!

7 Ways to support an animal shelter at no cost!
1. Volunteer your time:.Animal shelters are often understaffed & can always use volunteers in various capacities. Just an hour or two of your time each week can really make a difference. “Whether you walk dogs at your shelter, stuff envelopes for an educational mailing or assist with a fundraising event, you can make a difference in the lives of animals,” says HSUS. To find out about volunteer opportunities, contact your local animal shelter.

2. Foster a pet: Pets have a much better chance of finding forever homes when they can be taken from scary shelters & placed in loving foster homes, where they learn basic obedience skills & good manners. When you foster a cat, dog or other pet, you will provide love, care & attention for a certain period of time or until the pet is adopted. You also open up a space in the shelter for another homeless pet, possibly saving a life. Sometimes the cost of food & veterinary care is covered by the shelter or a local rescue, or it may be tax deductible. Fostering “is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have (other than adopting, of course),” according to Petfinder.com

3. Donate old towels, blankets, pet items & more: Along with towels, blankets, sheets & old newspapers, you can donate your pet’s gently used bed, bowls, toys & other items. Be sure to call the shelter first or check its website for a wish list to find out exactly what is needed.

4. Share photos of the shelter’s pets on social media: Use your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & other social media accounts to post photos & information about pets available for adoption from the shelter. Ask your friends and followers to share the photos so they’re seen by as many potential adopters as possible.

5. Make pet toys from scratch: Even if you’re not especially crafty, you can create toys for shelter dogs & cats from old sweatshirts & other materials you probably already have around your house. (Check ideas on Pinterest <https://www.pinterest.com/brumzoo/diy-pet-toys/>. )

6. Host a fundraiser: On behalf of your pet’s birthday or another special occasion, throw a party & ask your guests to bring cash donations – &/or pet food — for your local shelter. For your own birthday, you can launch an online crowdfunding campaign on a site like GoFundMe.com & ask for shelter donations instead of gifts.

7. Spread the word about the importance of S/N pets: Every year, millions of homeless cats & dogs are euthanized in shelters. This could easily be prevented if people would S/N their pets to prevent unwanted litters. Tell everyone you know to S/N their pets.

“Cats are 45 times as prolific, & dogs 15 times as prolific, as humans,” NSALA’s nationwide network & referral service for affordable S/N.
“They do not need our help to expand their numbers; they need our help to reduce their numbers until there are good homes for them all.”

CAHW The Center for Animal Health and Welfare
Formed in 1913, CAHW, formerly the Northampton County SPCA, is a private organization. We are not affiliated with any other SPCA or ASPCA. We are not a government agency, but are a non-profit organization with a 501c3 status. In 2003 we committed ourselves to saving lives & became a no-kill shelter. We are dedicated to providing a safe & healthy environment for animals. We have improved our foster program, increased adoptions & offer a low-cost S/N program.
Fund raising, donations & bequests make up 90% of our income & we apply for many grants. Adoption fees, relinquishment fees, memberships & agreements with some of the local municipalities, to take in their strays, generate the rest of our revenue. Although we greatly appreciate the help from the municipalities that do support us, not all do. Northampton County contributes about $5,000.
We are responsible for a $900,000 operating budget annually. Our major costs are: Veterinary care, Medical supplies, Kennel supplies, S/N expenses, Insurance, Utilities, & Payroll.
Adoption: We make every effort to find loving homes for these scared & lonely pets. We do not set a fixed time limit on animals, but keep them for as long as they remain adoptable.
Lost & Found Services: Each year, hundreds of anxious owners visit our shelter, fill out reports, & are soon reunited with their lost pets.
Reducing the Tragic Overpopulation of Pets: The sad truth is that there are far more animals than there are loving homes for them. We conduct an ongoing campaign to encourage the neutering of all pets. With the cooperation of local veterinarians, we fund a low-cost pet S/N program.
Sadly, as a last resort, we do euthanize animals who are too sick or have aggression issues & cannot safely be placed in a home. We never euthanize an animal because of lack of space. We do not, under any circumstances, send any animal to laboratories for experimental use.
Humane Education: Through schools & community groups, we teach compassion & respect for all animals, as well as the responsibility of pet ownership, pet care, training, health & the importance of neutering.
This is the shelter where Mom adopted Angel Ricky & I on 1/30/05. Angel Ricky developed FIP and crossed five months later & Mom adopted Angel Anderson on 8/25/05. He crossed the RBB on 6/19/14. Legend was adopted 8/23/14. Mom has volunteered at the CAHW since 2005.

CHK The Cat House on the Kings
CHK is CA's largest no-cage, no-kill, lifetime cat sanctuary & adoption center. Our mission is to place rescued cats & kittens into loving, permanent homes; to provide a safe, happy & healthy home for unwanted cats & kittens in a unique, no-cage facility; to prevent pet overpopulation through S/N; & to educate the public about responsible pet ownership. CHK is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, receives no government or public funding, & relies entirely on donations from the public to carry out its mission.
Founded 23 years ago by Lynea Lattanzio, CHK has saved over 24,000 cats & 7,000 dogs (not counting the 40,000 animals we have S/N) & currently cares for more than 700 cats & kittens, a dozen or so dogs & a handful of peacocks. Our mission is to: provide a no-cage, no-kill sanctuary for feral & abandoned cats & kittens for the CA, primarily serving the Central Valley; facilitate the adoption of cats (primarily), dogs & other rescued animals into safe, loving, healthy & permanent homes; educate the public on how to become directly involved in improving the quality of animal welfare; offer low cost S/N referrals. In 2002 CHK achieved non-profit status. In 2003, Lynea, with more volunteers & money, continued to expand CHK & added an area dedicated to the care of FIV+ cats. By 2004, CHK population had grown to over 500 cats & kittens.
CHK offers a variety of services:
Advice & Education: We offer assistance & education in behavioral problems with cats & assist people in finding new homes for their cats. We also advise thousands of people from around the world who contact us through our website & at our local, public events about all manner of cat issues.
Adoption Center: All of our cats are available for adoption. We do our utmost to find the best possible homes for our cats; none are euthanized except to relieve suffering. The cats live out their lives in our sanctuary until they are either adopted or die of old age — however long that may be. Every year, CHK adopts out approximately 500 cats ( & some dogs).
Sanctuary: We care for over 700 unwanted cats & kittens. Individuals surrender cats to us for a fee of $5000 per cat to provide lifetime support & care. Every cat is given necessary medical care, & is S/N & vaccinated. They are placed in cottages to become familiar with their surroundings. Once they're comfortable with their new digs, they are released onto the sanctuary grounds, & can roam about at will. The grounds are fully fenced & secure.
Low cost S/N: CHK works with local veterinary clinics to provide affordable rates for S/N surgery. We also provide transport between CHK & the surgery clinic.

SAINTS Senior Animals in Need Today Society
SAINTS was started in December 2004 after volunteers at other animal shelters saw many senior animals spending their last days in a shelter or pound. From the time we opened our doors, the number of animals in need has been astounding & ever-growing. When SAINTS moved into it’s first location it started with 16 cats, 12 dogs & 2 rabbits. SAINTS has since found it’s permanent home on 3 beautiful acres in Mission, BC with a warm & cozy home, a sturdy & well constructed barn, several outbuildings just waiting to be renovated for future use plus fields to play in & a pond to swim in… we have found a little bit of heaven on earth for our very special friends.
SAINTS has had over 765 animals come in through it’s doors. Over 280 have been adopted into wonderful loving homes. 320 have passed away in loving care at SAINTS & the remaining 112 still call SAINTS their home. We currently have 47 Saints in permanent foster homes. We are an end-of-life sanctuary for senior & special needs animals that have nowhere else to go. We provide a special place to be loved, cherished, & receive proper medical care for the rest of their days. All animals deserve to have hope for a better tomorrow. We pledge to love them, to care for them, & make their dreams come true. We promise each of them that they will never be alone again.
At various shelters throughout B.C., dedicated staff
& volunteers work tirelessly to find these special
animals a place to finish their journey in comfort &
in love. Because of their infirmities & physical challenges, many homeless senior & special needs animals have very little chance of finding a new home. SAINTS exists to help senior & special needs animals when all else fails. If we can, in time, find them a special home
of their own, then we do. If that very special home
never comes, they will be safe & cherished until the
end of their days.
Most of the animals that arrive at SAINTS are from
local animal shelters that didn’t have space for them
in their shelter as most SAINTS animals are seniors
or special needs & would have a hard time getting
adopted from a shelter. Other animals that come to
SAINTS are owner surrendered most often from senior
citizens who, due to health concerns, are no longer
able to care for their animals. Sometimes these animals
lose their homes when their senior caregiver passes away.
When an animal is brought to SAINTS it is assessed
as to the possibility of either adoption to a permanent
home, remaining a lifelong sanctuary animals or supportive care in a permanent foster home. This is determined by their level of care required, any existing health conditions or any that develop while in care.
All of our funding is raised through volunteer-driven
fundraising events or through private donations from
our supporters. No report from any of the charity watchdog groups. Thanks for your support. Prayers 4 all in need. Voted. Kitty Kisses. King Dean

Hi Edina
So nice to see your blog on my page this morning pretty lady. Wow your going to Canada for Thanksgiving I am staying home but everyone is coming to our house this year. Mom decided to have everyone over she is excited about it and so am I. It is sunny here today and our fall has been warm too. It would be nice if it stayed like this all winter. Mom is semi-retired she works one or two days a week. When she told the owner she was going to retire March 31st and that's when they asked her if she would be willing to come one or two days a week, she said yes. It helps her keep her hand in and she helps out Karen who took the bulk of Mom's job. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and a safe trip. Love and hugs, Miles and Angel Maggie

6422 ~ FOREVER SLEEP TEAKEE KNIGHT ~
.
Mom~Lillian here to xplain what happened to TEAKEE #25544! Thank you for your Condolences, Sympathies, Poems, E-mails & Gifts! They are all so much appreciated!

TEAKEE was helped with her unXpected Forever Sleep at 4:30pm on Wednesday, November 18, 2015.

Every night about 10:30 I go in the GIRLS’ (Teakee; Sausha; Kittzi & Sylvr Tuff) room to feed them their dry food. TEAKEE reluctantly ate a couple kibbles and quit. Breakfast came about 7:00am Wednesday and had no interest in eating so I withheld her Dasuquin and told her it’s ok then gave her some pettings. I looked in at her and she was asleep in her bed then when I seen her lying on the floor about 2:00pm, like she does when relaxing, I noticed she was having labored breathing. I went in and she got in her one bed under the vanity so I laid my hand on her side hoping she would breathe normal, but that didn’t happen. I went and got the digital thermometer to take her temp which was below normal at 97.9. I called the vet’s to see if I could get her in which I did.

Dr. Jessie seen how bad TEAKEE was breathing, checked her heart which sounded good then listened to her lungs. She wanted to get a couple Xrays which showed her chest filled completely with fluid. Dr. Jessie said she could drain the fluid, but would be back within 48 hours. Her breathing had gotten much worse in the time of being there and my heart felt so sad as I knew I had to make that decision right then to let my baby girl go as I didn’t want her suffering. I told her it was ok to go.

I have added a few pictures in TEAKEE’S Gallery at the bottom of her page. You can click on each picture for better viewing. She is being Cremated and should be back in about a week or so.

My heart is xtra heavy with sadness and I know you all understand the pain, but I have to get my Thank Yous out to each of you or it won’t be done if I keep putting it off!

Here's a Girl Power Crew vote for you in Teakee’s Memory.

Loving Hugs,

LNPB Leave No Paws Behind
LNPB is a 501 (c) 3 non profit corporation
governed by the laws of the State of CA. We are an all breed, all foster based rescue, specializing in seniors, terminal & end of life animals, & pets with special needs. When possible we step up, most times in the “11th” hour when all hope is gone, to help save the
lives of those that are in most danger of being left behind to die on a cold shelter floor.
LNPB provides hospice care, comfort, love & a safe haven for the terminally ill & the hard core cases & LNPB will never board a rescued animal. Upon rescue, we immediately have all of our rescues vetted, & LNPB never determines the outcome or diagnosis, & rely on the expertise of our skilled & excellent team of DVM’s. Those with minor, treatable medical needs & disabilities per diagnosis from the Doctor’s are placed in the loving care of fosters until they are adopted. LNPB’s more serious medically challenged rescues, such as seniors who may suffer with terminal &/or severe mobility medical conditions as diagnosed by the Doctor’s, are
placed in loving hospice/long term foster care for as long as needed.
From time to time, & when deemed necessary by our Doctor’s diagnosis, we have the sad task of helping our beloved animals cross the rainbow bridge. We are with them, holding & loving them until they peacefully
pass quietly in our arms. We do not hesitate to pull the terminally ill or the ones the shelter will inevitably PTS due to sickness & inability to walk as we cannot bear having them die alone, frightened & sadly wondering. We are doing for our four legged friends what they cannot do for themselves because their life matters. We are their voice & we will continue saving lives one paw a time as we make every effort to assure we Leave No Paws Behind. LNPB relies solely on public donations, no amount is to small & all amounts benefit the health & well fare of abused & abandoned animals & are tax deductible.

GuideStar gives LNPB 5 out of 5 stars, other charity groups did not evaluate.

Hi Edina
Long time, no meow! It's been a hectic month so far & as the holidays approach we know it will just get busier for our humans. Mom is trying to help me do some catch-up blogging this morning so is keeping her fingers crossed that the 30mph winds driving the rain won't knock out our connection.
My fursisters & I have been doing great & had our monthly pawdicures done last week, as well as that icky flea treatment. Mom may be busy but it seems as if she's never to busy to torture us...MOL!
Our outside kitty crew has not fared as well since autumn arrived. As you know we lost our beloved Joseph late last month but shortly after we also lost Callie & tiny Libby due to ill health. That was hard enough on mom (& the checkbook) but then she found sweet JJ had been deliberately hit & also joined the angels! She knows it was on purpose because she saw the tire tracks in our grass where she found him. His crossing was bad enough but to know that someone around here is evil enough to drive off the road just to hit a kitty made her very mad! Mom always watches carefully for any animals near roads when she's driving so she doesn't hit them...& that's not always easy when squirrels are involved...MOL!
Dad also lost one of his human aunts this month so I guess you could say we've sort of been in a state of shock at so many crossings so close to us but we'll be okay!
The remaining outside kitties (Bartholomew, Lacie & Sundance) are doing fine so far but are hiding in the barn today due to the horrifying wind & rain that's in the area. It's scary sitting here typing because it's so vicious sounding out there so we hope that anyone else being hit with it will be safe if you have to go out.
Our doggies are both doing fine & are starting to get along a little better. Mom says I'm getting brave because I come out & run around every day even though Ginger is always nearby. It's easy though since I found out all any of us kitties have to do is raise a paw to make her quit sniffing or trying to kiss us. For a dog she's okay but she still needs to learn that lap time is kitty time & she needs to stay down. One lesson at a time I guess...MOL!

Well got to run for now & will meow again as soon as I can.

Big hugs to all,
Fluffinella & NICE Crew

ARF Animal Rescue Foundation
ARF saves dogs & cats who have run out of time at public shelters & brings people & animals together to enrich each others lives. ARF strives to create a world where every loving dog & cat has a home, where every lonely person has a companion animal, & where children learn to care. ARF is a national leader in the animal welfare industry co-founded by Elaine & Tony La Russa in 1991. The nonprofit receives no government funding. ARF’s core mission is the rescue of dogs & cats who have run out of time at public shelters, giving them a chance at life until a new home can be found. ARF couples this focus with innovative programs strengthening the human-animal bond for children, seniors, veterans, & people in disadvantaged circumstances. Through ARF, people
experience the unconditional love & acceptance of dogs & cats to fulfill a mission of “People Rescuing Animals…Animals Rescuing People…”
The catalyst for ARF came when a stray tortoiseshell cat looking for food took a wrong turn & suddenly found herself on a baseball field in the Oakland Coliseum. The frantic cat dashed around the field, panicked & unable to find a way out, she slinked towards the infield, exhausted from her ordeal. Tony La Russa, manager for the Oakland Athletics, coaxed her into the dugout where she spend the rest of the game in safe confines. Sadly there was not a single no-kill shelter in the SF Bay Area & the little cat would likely be euthanized. The La Russas finally placed “Evie” in a permanent, loving home where she could live out her natural life. The experience caused Elaine & Tony to take action. Less than a year later, they co-founded ARF with the goal of rescuing dogs & cats before they ran out of time at high-kill shelters. With a small team of driven volunteers, ARF worked saved the lives of more than 100 dogs & cats its first year. ARF realized rescuing animals was as important as the remarkable role they play in the lives of people. ARF's dual mission of "People Rescuing Animals...Animals Rescuing People" was born. Early humane education programs began in 1993, ingraining an early love of animals in school-aged children. Two years later, a therapy animal team & other programs introduced the unconditional love & acceptance of animals to seniors, veterans, at-risk youth, & more people in need. Programs to help low-income pet guardians keep their beloved pets in homes & out of shelters soon followed.
Today, ARF is renowned as a local leader & national model in the animal welfare community. Since its inception, ARF has re-homed more than 30,000 dogs & cats saved from public animal shelters, performed more than 28,000 S/N surgeries to combat pet overpopulation, & is home to an array of innovative outreach & education programs bringing people & animals together to enrich each other's lives.
Charity Navigator gives 4 stars, GuideStar awards 5 stars,& BB Wise Giving says ARF meets the 20 Standards of Accountability. King Dean

It’s pouring and blowing at my house, winds are gusting up to 37 mph and there’s a road crew clearing a big fir tree that blew down across the road, just up the block. It’s a purrfect day for us all to gather by the fire in my cabin with fresh bread, catnip jam and hot apple cider. And of course great company!

Thanks for the compliment on my coat, would you believe I hardly ever get knots? Now hairballs, THOSE I get! Mom keeps me brushed just to keep the hairballs under control. Thanks for being part of another very special day in my life on CC! ~ ♥ Evie

PEF The Pets for the Elderly Foundation
PEF began in Cleveland in 1992, & expanded nationally in 2001 with a goal of saving as many companion animals as possible from euthanasia. We have a small staff, & all administrative costs are paid by the founder's related foundation. Currently there are 48 participating shelters in 27 states. More shelters are added as funding becomes available. Our goal is to save the lives of 6,000 companion pets annually, while enhancing the lives of an equal number of senior citizens.

PEF is a 501 (c)(3) public charity whose mission is to provide companionship to senior individuals through pet ownership, while saving the lives of companion animals in shelters; animals which might otherwise be destroyed due to lack of appropriate homes, & space limitations. PEF began with two shelters near Cleveland, Ohio. Since then, PEF has seen great success & has grown to a nationwide program. PEF branched out nationally in 2002, & has helped successfully place nearly 57,000 companion animals with senior adopters. PEF helps pay the fees to participating animal shelters throughout the US for senior citizens (age 60 & over) who adopt a companion dog or cat from a participating shelter - including pre-adoption veterinary exams & S/N, if part of the adoption fee. Research shows the most serious disease for older persons is not cancer or heart disease - it's loneliness. Pets offer affection, unconditional love, fight loneliness, & can help ease the loss of a loved one.

PEF provides financial support for the adoption of companion pets, cats & dogs only.
It does not accept unwanted dogs & cats. We are strictly financial support for adoption programs with participating shelters. One can not adopt a dog or cat directly through PEF. We are strictly financial support for adoption programs with participating shelters. We do not have the facilities to house adoptable animals, nor do we match pets & adopters. We are a small business office only, & do not have space for volunteers.

The fee for adopting a pet through a PEF shelter will vary depending upon location. PEF underwrites a portion of the adoption cost for dogs & cats at participating shelters. Because our program is located in 58 shelters in 30 different states, adoption fees & policies can vary widely. The Foundation business office is just outside Phoenix, AZ. We do not have branch offices, but our participating shelters are in 30 different states.

When you all came to help me Celebrate my 6 year Adoptiversary on Tuesday 11/10 and you pawed my votey button, it made me win my 6th Cat of the Day Badge the next day, Wednesday 11/11! Thank you so much!

Thank you also for the goodies, balloons, flowers and cool gifts! I got xtra treats from momma, too!

Some of you have asked how often does momma groom me. Momma doesn't have to comb my fur but maybe once a month. I don't have issues with matted fur neither and my furrrmama Kittzi #160203 is the same.

Momma went to PetSmart Wednesday morning and brought me back a mew toy and a pretty pink collar! Momma has to take that collar back cuz it broke already!

NKAC No Kill Advocacy Center
NKAC, founded in 2004 by Nathan Winograd, was the nation’s first & at the time, only full-service No Kill
community, saving not only dogs & cats, all community cats, & rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, horses, & others. In 2005, NKAC held its first No Kill conference, with less than two dozen people attending. In 2013, hundreds of cities & towns across America have save rates better than 90% & as high as 99% using our No Kill Equation model of sheltering. In 2005, we talked about the goal of saving at least 90%. In 2012, we weren’t satisfied with 98% as we explored what’s possible when we reach higher.
The NKAC’s influence is not only increasing,
it is widening. Almost half of all attendees at the No Kill Conference(46%) came from shelters, including many municipal facilities subject to public acrimony over high rates of killing. They are increasingly looking
to the NKAC, & not traditional national organizations,
because while we offer condemnation when it is deserved, we also offer solutions & assistance. If shelters want to save lives, they do not want antiquated dogmas which represent the past. That can only mean good things as we collectively move toward our inevitable No Kill future.
Nathan J. Winograd is the Director of the national NKAC. He has spoken nationally & internationally on animal sheltering issues, has written animal protection legislation at the state & national level, has created successful No Kill programs in both urban & rural communities, and has written five books on the No Kill Equation.
There are communities in the US that have eliminated population control killing. We want, & the animals deserve, No Kill in every city in the country. But it requires shelter leaders committed to these goals & embarking on a campaign of diligent implementation. That is where we must focus our efforts at reform. Only the No Kill Equation model has achieved this success. It is a program model which changes the way shelters operate & which gives the animal loving public an integral role in that operation. If a community wants success, this is how to go: nothing else has succeeded.
No Kill shelters can be public or private, large or small, humane societies or municipal agencies. About 9,000,000 people now live in communities saving 90% or more of dogs & cats in their shelters. Over 35,000,000 live in communities saving 80% or more of dogs and cats. The numbers continue to grow.
None of the 4 charity watchdog groups have evaluated NKAC. However, the concept fortunately has spread & saved millions of lives & will continue to do so.
Thanks very much for your support. Prayers 4 all in need. Peace & Love. King Dean
