My Cat Profile
About Me
Active within 306 Days
Hi! My name is Sunny and Josie
I am Domestic Shorthair from san Diego, CA
Nicknames: Sunny: Sunny Bunny, Sunshine, Sunny Bear Josie: Josie Posey, JoJo
Age: 7 years old
Gender: M
Coat: short haired
Education: Sunny has only 2 good legs, his back ones. His left front leg ends at the elbow, his right front leg is somewhat misshapen and has only part of a paw. But he never lets his handicap affect him. Sunny was voted COTD for 9/12/07.
My favorite tricks and treats are:
Where I hang out: Sunny loves his cat tree, especially the "tunnel" part. Josie loves the bedroom dresser next to the window, so she can keep an eye on the world
My favorite grubs: Sunny: Fancy Feast, and it MUST be in gravy. Josie likes Royal Canin 33. Neither of us like people food.
My pet peeves: Sunny hates the sound of aluminum foil. Josie just hates an empty dish!
What I love about my owners: She always puts us first.
My cat hobbies: We love to chase and ambush each other.
Pet motto: Josie: I'm not fat, I'm big-boned! Sunny: Hey mom, look what I can do!

How We Met
Sunny and I found each other at the county shelter when I volunteered there. He was not in good shape at all and was destined for "The Green Mile" Although I had no intention at the time of adopting another cat, I couldn't turn my back on him. Our other kitty, Millie, was quite elderly and cantankerous but eventually, if begrudgingly, accepted him. Millie went to the Bridge in January of 2008 and we adopted Josie from PetSmart as a companion for him in April 2008. She immediately starting 'calling the shots' around here but Sunny absolutely adores her.

Hi Sunny and Josie, Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you,but my brother Levi was sick for about a month,so mom went off line to be with him. He passed this month on the third and left a big hole in moms heart. He was her bottle baby. She raised him from two week of age,and he was only four. Hope all has been well with you,my friend! ~ Purrs,BartCome visit me, My Avatars, Bart & The Outside Boys, Charlie ♥ Raven.......The Enclosure Boys & Gypsy & The Inside Cats.

Hi Sunny and Josie, Thought I would start the New Year off with some 'little know' facts about the Peach State Cats! I hope you enjoy and I will start with myself... BART~nicknamed Booger Boy-REASON: I got sick and nearly died shortly after mom adopted me. My little eyes stayed crusted shut with what mom called 'eye boogers',and she would bathe them open every morning while talking softly to me,calling me her Booger Boy....the name stuck, just like the eye crud! SMUDGE~Will meow his fool head off for mom and dad to pet him, then keep j-u-s-t out of reach so they can't,leading then around the yard! GROWLIE~Won't let anyone but mom pet him! SAMSON~ADORES being petted! He had rather mom pet him than eat,and will even 'grab' moms hand if she pulls it away! CHARLIE~ His shelter name was ARMANI,but even though it suited his good-looking tux,mom changed it because dad would never have remembered it! DIXON~Has a very high-pitched meow! No one takes him serious when he tries to be aggressive! I mean, there he is,in his 'aggressive Tom' stance...back bowed, head down, legs stiff......then out comes this sound like air slowly released out of a balloon!!MOL! Dixon could make another kitty laugh to death! Well, that's all for today,as there are so many of us! I will finish the rest of my sibs later in the week! Hope you have a very happy New Year! ~Purrs,BartCome visit me, My Avatars, Bart & The Outside Boys, Charlie ♥ Raven.......The Enclosure Boys & Gypsy & The Inside Cats.

New for me ... first time hearing this oldie "...And The Mouse Police Never Sleeps" by Jethro Tull Muscled, black with steel-green eye swishing through the rye grass with thoughts of mouse-and-apple pie. Tail balancing at half-mast. ...And the mouse police never sleeps --- lying in the cherry tree. Savage bed foot-warmer Of purest feline ancestry. Look out, little furry folk! He's the all-night working cat. Eats but one in every ten --- leaves the others on the mat. ...And the mouse police never sleeps --- waiting by the cellar door. Window-box town crier; birth and death registrar. With claws that rake a furrow red --- licensed to mutilate. From warm milk on a lazy day to dawn patrol on hungry hate. ...No, the mouse police never sleeps --- climbing on the ivy. Windy roof-top weathercock. Warm-blooded night on a cold tile. Hey Everybody! Remember me? It's Rocky! And today is International Tongue Twister day! Hooray! Last time, I gave you the one about where she sits, remember? This time I actually have a tongue twister poem. Yes, there are such things! Ready? Here goes: The Two-Toed Tree Toad A tree-toad loved a she-toad Who lived up in a tree. He was a two-toed tree-toad, But a three-toed toad was she. The two-toed tree-toad tried to win The three-toed she-toad's heart, For the two-toed tree-toad loved the ground That the three-toed tree-toad trod. But the two-toed tree-toad tried in vain; He couldn't please her whim. From her tree-toad bower, With her three-toed power, The she-toad vetoed him. Poor toad. :) RockyCome visit me, LITTLE MISS, SMOKEY & MOLLY 211603~~, HOT ROD, OUTLAW 211919~~, ZIGGY*DUCHESS OF DANCE 211920~~ & AUTUMN & R.I.P. SUMMER 212425~~.

Hi Sunny and Josie, Stopping in today with my Sunday blog and vote! What's mew with you? The mews here is that Samson tried to jump Growlie...twice! Mom got on to him,and picked Growlie up and took him to a safe spot, where she then took the oppurnity to examine his fur. The new food seems to be helping him,as new fur is growing back in his,er,bald spots! Mom finally gave in,and is giving us the yummy new food too,yah!......The enclosure kitties managed to knock over their three tower condo that dad made, and smashed a litter box in the process. Mom was just glad no one was injured! She got a new litter box,and threw the smashed one out today. She also did some cleaning in the enclosure,as well as painting today. Mom asked dad if he would make two cat boxes to hang up high in the enclosure. She got the idea from the Catswall design boxes. Dad said he would add it to his 'honey-do list',haha!....The inside cats are doing good! Ellie still loves mom's room, and Gypsy dad's! Gypsy is the only one who hisses at Allie Cat,who is a complete little love bug kitty! ......Oh,and mom told Dad that she needed to save some money and take ME to the vet~YIKES~mom still thinks I am too overweight, and the other outside cats are not,and we all eat the same thing. She wants to make sure nothing else is going on with me. Well,I dread the day I have to go,whenever it may be,'cause when mom gets a notion in her head, she usually follows through. I'll be claw biting untill then! Well, enough till next week!~Purrs and Hugs,BartCome visit me, My Avatars, Bart & The Outside Boys, Charlie ♥ Raven.......The Enclosure Boys & Gypsy & The Inside Cats.

Hello friends! Today is "National Homeless Animals Day". I have posted a small selection of poems on my page, and here is a short one for you. "Stray Cat" by Francis Witham Oh, what unhappy twist of fate Has brought you homeless to my gate? The gate where once another stood To beg for shelter, warmth, and food For from that day I ceased to be The master of my destiny. While he, with purr and velvet paw Became within my house the law. He scratched the furniture and shed And claimed the middle of my bed. He ruled in arrogance and pride And broke my heart the day he died. So if you really think, oh Cat, I'd willingly relive all that Because you come forlorn and thin Well...don't just stand there...Come on in! Purrs. Hi Sunny and Josie, Bart say to tell you 'hello'... ANDY AND ELLIE'S MORNING ADVENTURE! A great big roach across the ceiling did come, and up the curtain Andy did run! A mid-air swipe and down it fell; hit the floor running pell mell! Andy and Ellie are on it in a flash, but behind the waste can the roach did dash! Round and round the cats did run, chasing the roach and having SO much fun! Under the rug it tried to escape, little did it know that was a mistake! Four taloned paws under the rug did search, and the 'poor' little roach went plumb berserk! A valiant run it made for the door, but a quick paw-swipe pinned it flat to the floor! A leap,a toss,a flip in the air... ~then CRUNCH! It's ended-right then and there! I hope you enjoyed our morning adventure, and hope you have many too!~Hugs,Andy and EllieCome visit me, My Avatars, Bart & The Outside Boys, Charlie ♥ Raven.......The Enclosure Boys & Gypsy & The Inside Cats.

What a comedown ... ... I was wearing a crown on Sunday ... Monday they pulled two of my teeth! Is that anyway to treat a former queen, I ask you? Don't bother to answer that; of course it isn't. Now I'm getting my sea legs back and proceeding to enjoy this cruise round the world with my honey and my dear furriends. I will send postcards from time to time, letting you know where we are and what marvels we are seeing. Enjoy your new King Sammy ... he tells quite a tale, and I adore mystery stories. And don't forget to vote for Indie each day so he can thrill us with ... well, with a name like that, I'm thinking adventures. Missing all of you, but sooooo glad to be just resting for a time. We have reached day 26 of my campaign ... Today I am posting this myself, BUT Mom’s computer will not be available to her until late on Thursday. Dear furriend Sassy and her mom have agreed to post my blog on the CMR page #46883 on Mon – Wed. On Thursday, I am being crowned in absentia, but will arrive later that day to visit and celebrate with you. Hang in there … I’ll be back. Check each day at the bottom of my page for pics, even during my reign. This adventure is not ending; it’s only just begun. You’ll see. Probably the most recognizable of the primates is the Chimpanzee Probably the most intelligent animal, next to man, the chimpanzee manifests many parallels to human behavior. Although its senses are similar to ours, it probably has a keener sense of smell. Other than man, the chimpanzee is one of the only animals that make and use tools. For example, it peels the bark from sticks and then uses those bare sticks to probe tree holds for insects. A chimpanzee uses far more facial and body gestures and a wider range of sounds than any animal other than man. Usually in a slouch, rarely holding itself upright, a chimpanzee walks on its knuckles while moving about mainly on the ground, although it also climbs. A chimpanzee spends many hours of each day foraging for food, mainly ripe fruit and young leaves. It may eat as many as two dozen different types of plants in a single day. A newborn chimpanzee is totally dependent on its mother. When a few days old it clings to the front of its mother’s body, by six months it rides on her back and by four years is walking alongside. It will then remain close to its mother for up to eight years. Chimpanzees live in communities ranging in size from about a dozen to over one hundred. Like other arboreal monkeys, the chimpanzee is very noisy, issuing hoots and high-pitched screams at the slightest provocation. See a picture of this animal at the bottom of my page. *** The next three animal pics will be on my page also. I think you are all smart enough to figure which is which. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Congratulations to today’s COTD Prissy #22485 Visit QUEEN PAPPOOSE at #310366.Come visit me, Q. Wow! It's already Campaign Day 25 ... Yet another primate is the Orangutan The name orangutan means “man of the forest” in Malay. They can be found in the rain forest of northern Borneo. This peaceful, gentle, long-haired primate lives in the rainy jungles of Borneo and Sumatra. Clumsy when moving on the ground, it spends most of its time high up in the trees. At night it sleeps on little platforms which it builds from twigs and branches, constructing a new one each night. In wet or cold weather the orangutan covers itself with leaves. A voracious eater, it will sometimes spend an entire day feasting upon the fruit of a single tree. Fruit makes up more than half of its diet but it will also eat bark, leaves, eggs and young birds. The most arboreal of all the apes, the orangutan has especially long, flexible fingers that help it to hang and swing in the trees. The orangutan has wonderful ability to use its facial muscles, particularly its big lips. Long arms, hook-shaped hands and feet, and a heavy body enable an orangutan to swing superbly from tree to tree and walk on the branches. A very young orangutan rides about clinging to its mother’s chest but juveniles often play and romp together. Adults are quite solitary and, other than during infrequent mating encounters, an orangutan maintains and protects its own independent home range. Even when several adults are eating at the same food source there is little interaction among them. An adult male is particularly jealous of his territory and, when encroachment does occur, will become quite aggressive and noisy, shaking branches and emitting long, loud howls. See a picture of this animal at the bottom of my page. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Happy Birthday to SADIE #23223 Congratulations to today’s COTD / ACOTD Angel Queen Chloe #69835 Visit QUEEN PAPPOOSE at #310366. We've reached day 24 of my campaign ... We’re staying big. Here is the Indian Rhinoceros Rhinoceros unicornia The Indian rhinoceros lives primarily in northern India and Nepal. These massive beasts have some noticeable physical differences from their African relatives. Their segmented hide looks like a formidable coat of natural body armor. It functions a bit like one also: Flexible skin between the thicker hide "plates" allows them to shift as the rhinoceros moves. As their Latin name Rhinoceros unicornis suggests, Indian rhinos have only one horn. Like other rhinos, these animals have sharp hearing and a keen sense of smell. They may find one another by following the trail of scent each enormous animal leaves behind it on the landscape. An Indian rhino can move very quickly when aroused. Their charges have been clocked at 30 miles (48 kilometers) an hour. Despite their bulk, they are nimble and can jump or change direction quickly. The Indian rhino is a grazer that travels established, tunnel-like paths through its tall-grass habitat. It grasps tall grasses with its prehensile (gripping) lip. In addition to grass, rhinos eat fruit, leaves, and sometimes farm crops. They are often around water and sometimes consume aquatic plants. These animals forage in the cooler temps of morning and afternoon to avoid exerting themselves in the debilitating midday heat. When the sun is high, they often wallow or submerge themselves in water. The prominent horn for which these rhinos are so well known has also been their downfall. Many animals have been killed for this hard, hair-like growth, which is revered for medicinal use in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The horn is also valued in North Africa and the Middle East as an ornamental dagger handle. There are only about 2,000 Indian rhinos left in the wild. See a picture of this animal at the bottom of my page. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Congratulations to today’s COTD Blue #88846. Visit QUEEN PAPPOOSE at #310366. We have reached day 22 of my campaign ... By popular request, today we will learn about Meerkats These gregarious animals are often seen in groups, and several families may live together in a large community. Squirrel-sized meerkats are mongooses famed for their upright posture. They often stand on their rear legs and gaze alertly over the southern African plains where they live. Mothers can even nurse their young while standing. All adult meerkats—male and female—pitch in to help educate the young in hunting and survival techniques. Meerkats (also called suricates) work together in numbers. A few will typically serve as lookouts, watching the skies for birds of prey, such as hawks and eagles, that can snatch them from the ground. A sharp, shrill call is the signal for all to take cover. While a few individuals guard the group, the rest busy themselves foraging for the foods that make up their varied diet. Meerkats will eat insects, lizards, birds, and fruit. When hunting small game, they work together and communicate with purring sounds. Meerkats are good hunters and are sometimes tamed for use as rodent-catchers. Meerkat groups utilize several different burrows and move from one to another. Each burrow is an extensive tunnel-and-room system that remains cool even under the broiling African sun. Females give birth to two to four young each year in one of the group's burrows. Fathers and siblings help to raise meerkat young, teaching them to play and forage and alerting them to the ever present danger from above. Young meerkats are so fearful of predatory birds that even airplanes will send them diving for cover. See a picture of these cuties at the bottom of my page. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* SHOUT-OUT voting for…COCO #57932 Congratulations to today’s ACOTD / RACOTD is Angel Rosebud #74302. This is day 21 of my campaign ... Emperor Penguins Emperors are the largest of all penguins—an average bird stands some 45 inches (115 centimeters) tall. These flightless animals live on the Antarctic ice and in the frigid surrounding waters. Penguins employ physiological adaptations and cooperative behaviors in order to deal with an incredibly harsh environment, where wind chills can reach -76°F (-60°C). They huddle together to escape wind and conserve warmth. Individuals take turns moving to the group's protected and relatively toasty interior. Once a penguin has warmed a bit it will move to the perimeter of the group so that others can enjoy protection from the icy elements. Emperor penguins spend the long winter on the open ice—and even breed during this harsh season. Females lay a single egg and then promptly leave it behind. They undertake an extended hunting trip that lasts some two months! Depending on the extent of the ice pack, females may need to travel some 50 miles (80 kilometers) just to reach the open ocean, where they will feed on fish, squid, and krill. At sea, emperor penguins can dive to 1,850 feet (565 meters)—deeper than any other bird—and stay under for more than 20 minutes. Male emperors keep the newly laid eggs warm, but they do not sit on them, as many other birds do. Males stand and protect their eggs from the elements by balancing them on their feet and covering them with feathered skin known as a brood pouch. During this two-month bout of babysitting the males eat nothing and are at the mercy of the Antarctic elements. When female penguins return to the breeding site, they bring a belly full of food that they regurgitate for the newly hatched chicks. Meanwhile, their duty done, male emperors take to the sea in search of food for themselves. Mothers care for their young chicks and protect them with the warmth of their own brood pouches. Outside of this warm cocoon, a chick could die in just a few minutes. In December, Antarctic summer, the pack ice begins to break up and open water appears near the breeding site, just as young emperor penguins are ready to swim and fish on their own. Check the bottom of my page to see a photo of these animals. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Congratulations to today’s COTD Mouse #219407. See what QUEEN PAPPOOSE has planned at #10366. Today is Day 16 of my campaign ... … and I’d like to introduce you to the … Moose Moose are the largest of all the deer species. Males are immediately recognizable by their huge antlers, which can spread 6 feet (1.8 meters) from end to end. Moose have long faces and muzzles that dangle over their chins. A flap of skin known as a bell sways beneath each moose's throat. Moose are so tall that they prefer to browse higher grasses and shrubs because lowering their heads to ground level can be difficult. In winter they eat shrubs and pinecones, but they also scrape snow with their large hooves to clear areas for browsing on mosses and lichens. These hooves also act as snowshoes to support the heavy animals in soft snow and in muddy or marshy ground. In summer, food is far more plentiful in the northern regions of North America, Europe, and Asia. When the ice melts, moose are often seen in lakes, rivers, or wetlands, feeding on aquatic plants both at and below the surface. Moose are at home in the water and, despite their staggering bulk, are good swimmers. They have been seen paddling several miles at a time, and will even submerge completely, staying under for 30 seconds or more. Moose are similarly nimble on land. They can run up to 35 miles (56 kilometers) an hour over short distances, and trot steadily at 20 miles (32 kilometers) an hour. Males, called bulls, bellow loudly to attract mates each September and October. The usually solitary bulls may come together at this time to battle with their antlers for mating supremacy. After mating, the two sexes go their separate ways until the following year. Though they may occasionally feed in the same grounds, they tend to ignore each other. Females give birth to one or two calves in the spring—each weighing some 30 pounds (14 kilograms). These calves grow quickly and can outrun a person by the time they are just five days old. Young moose stay with their mothers until the following mating season. ……………. We have a four-day weekend coming up … Presidents’ Day … and Mom will be doing child-care for the family, plus working. My blog will be posted on the CMR page #46883 with pictures of each animal placed on my home page each morning. I’ll pay you another visit on Tuesday. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Congratulations to today’s COTD / ACOTD - Toby #79421. See what QUEEN PAPPOOSE has planned at #10366. For day 14, Valentine's Day ... ... read about two popular and lovable creatures, the Koala and the Giant Panda. Enjoy their stories and then see their pictures at the bottom of my page. Koala Though often called the koala "bear," this cuddly animal is not a bear at all; it is a marsupial, or pouched mammal. After giving birth, a female koala carries her baby in her pouch for about six months. When the infant emerges, it rides on its mother's back or clings to her belly, accompanying her everywhere until it is about a year old. Koalas live in eastern Australia, where the eucalyptus trees they love are most plentiful. In fact, they rarely leave these trees, and their sharp claws and opposable digits easily keep them aloft. During the day they doze, tucked into forks or nooks in the trees, sleeping for up to 18 hours. When not asleep a koala feeds on eucalyptus leaves, especially at night. Koalas do not drink much water and they get most of their moisture from these leaves. Each animal eats a tremendous amount for its size—about two and a half pounds (one kilogram) of leaves a day. Koalas even store snacks of leaves in pouches in their cheeks. A special digestive system—a long gut—allows koalas to break down the tough eucalyptus leaves and remain unharmed by their poison. Koalas eat so many of these leaves that they take on a distinctive odor from their oil, reminiscent of cough drops. These plump, fuzzy mammals were widely hunted during the 1920s and 1930s, and their populations plunged. Helped by reintroduction, they have reappeared over much of their former range, but their populations are smaller and scattered. Koalas need a lot of space—about a hundred trees per animal—a pressing problem as Australia's woodlands continue to shrink.Come visit me, Q. Cherish - COTM March 2012.

Second Valentine Animal ... Giant Panda The giant panda has an insatiable appetite for bamboo. A typical animal eats half the day—a full 12 out of every 24 hours. It takes 28 pounds (12.5 kilograms) of bamboo to satisfy a giant panda's daily dietary needs, and it hungrily plucks the stalks with elongated wrist bones that function rather like thumbs. Pandas will sometimes eat birds or rodents as well. Wild pandas live only in remote, mountainous regions in central China. These high bamboo forests are cool and wet—just as pandas like it. They may climb as high as 13,000 feet (3,962 meters) to feed on higher slopes in the summer season. Pandas are often seen eating in a relaxed sitting posture, with their hind legs stretched out before them. They may appear sedentary, but they are skilled tree-climbers and efficient swimmers. Giant pandas are solitary. They have a highly developed sense of smell that males use to avoid each other and to find females for mating in the spring. After a five-month pregnancy, females give birth. The blind infants weigh only 5 ounces (142 grams) at birth and cannot crawl until they reach three months of age. They are born white, and develop their much loved coloring later. There are only about 1,000 giant pandas left in the wild. Perhaps 100 pandas live in zoos, where they are always among the most popular attractions. Much of what we know about pandas comes from study of these zoo animals, because their wild cousins are so rare and elusive. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Congratulations to today’s COTD Vika #211366. Day #13 of my campaign ... Was your weekend filled with loved ones and lots of naps? Sure hope it was. Mom worked; that’s why my blogs on weekends are posted on the CMR page #46883 so head there each Saturday and Sunday. Gotta give the woman a break some time. It’s time to meet another amazing creature … here are Przewalski’s Horses Their dun-colored coat may help them blend quietly into the landscape, but their stand-out nature is as tempestuous as the winds of the Asian steppes. In the western world, they are known as Przewalski’s horses, Equus caballus przewalskii, but to the people of Mongolia, they are, and always have been, takh (TAH-kee), which means “spirited.” It is a fitting name for these strong, swift, and nimble animals – the last true wild horses on Earth. In prehistoric times, these horses roamed widely over semi-arid, steppe grasslands and wooded areas in Western Europe, central Asia, and China. They were known to humans in these regions but never domesticated. In 1880, it was identified as a distinct equid species. The Przewalski’s horse is an easily identified animal – it has the legs, torso, neck, and head we recognize as “horse,” but it differs from domesticated horses both on the inside and the outside. Przewalski’s horses have to forelock and a short, erect mane that is shed and regrown each year. Their head is large in proportion to their body, and while their neck is thicker than a domestic horse’s, their legs are relatively shorter. There is a genetic difference, too: Przewalski’s horses have 66 chromosomes in their DNA, but there are only 64 in domestic horses. It is a difference, but it’s such a slight one that interbreeding results in fertile offspring with 65 chromosomes. And while their behaviors are similar – social animals living in hierarchical herds – a major distinction between the two equids comes down to the meaning of one word: wild. Przwalski’s horses are extremely wary of humans. See a photo of these beautiful creatures at the bottom of my page. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Congratulations to today’s COTD winner Peyton #79000 who is also celebrating her birthday. Visit QUEEN PAPPOOSE at #10366 and leave her a vote. Stop by to vote for VIKA #211366 to be tomorrow’s COTD. What a sweet Valentine gift that will be.Come visit me, Q. Cherish - COTM March 2012.
