How We Met

Our first cat, a gift to my husband, is coming upon his final days. He has cancer, debilitating arthritis, cataracts, and bowel problems. We will make him as comfortable as we can until such time that he must go over Rainbow Bridge. The other kitties are helping, Mynx in particular stays near him and guides him through the house, and he and Elspeth sleep near him often. Samhi doesn't stay still for long, but she at least tries not to run into him and gives him kitty kisses. Taliesin, being as he is, takes the opportunity to swat him on the head as often as he can get away with it. His caring friends on the CC voted him COTD on Sept 15, 2007, and he (and his meowmy) are very proud and grateful to them all for the honor. (crossed Rainbow Bridge Sept. 22, 2007)
**Our beloved Manie crossed Rainbow Bridge this at 10:30 this morning, Sept. 22. There is little to do now but look for some sort of peace of mind. Unfortunately, having lost three others in past years, we know all to well the feelings of loss and regret that will ensue. The candles have been lit, and we will shed tears daily until we run dry; in the days that follow, a hush will fall about the house and our eyes will expectantly, though futilely, seek him out in all of the familiar places. We will pretend that he is in the next room sleeping or watching the birds in the window as we attempt to console ourselves and each other as best we can until one day the sharp pain of parting subsides to a dull, empty ache. Finally, the taboo will be lifted, and his name will be spoken often again; we will talk about him, laugh a little, cry a little, remember him as he once was, and wonder how and where he might be now. Some sense of normalcy will return as we accept the fact that we will no longer be able to touch him or hear his voice, but we will stop and smile as we sense his presence from time to time and continue to love him in spirit and memory forever. Here’s to you old man.
