How We Met

I was going to be killed because they thought " I was brain damaged" The shelter that had me as a surrender sent me to a no kill shelter. There I lived for year or more. My new owners has just lost a Siamese to cancer and wanted a new one. They said " she's brain damaged you wouldn't want her". I just walk funny and can't use a litter box. My new owners trained me to go on piddle pads next to the cat box. I go and then fold the chux pad over. They even spend lots of money making me a special low to ground litter box, "I just couldn't get inside it"

Hi Chai Chai
Please Vote for Crush #244193 for COTD on Mon, 1/21

Today's Special Recognition Candidate is Crush #244193. Crush is less than a year old and is an orange boy. Crush reminds us of the soda pop, Orange Crush but Crush #244193 also plays Mouse Hockey on the Orange Crush team. Crush is a laid back and happy cat and doesn't let too much of anything bother him. Crush #244193 lives in the Virgin Islands with siblings Easy Goin', Cashmere and the rest of his family. Living in such a beautiful place it would be easy to just enjoy things as they come while resting and playing on the beach, watching the seagulls and other birds and fish. No wonder Crush #244193 is so mellow and happy, living in such a beautiful place with a loving family. Please paw over to visit Crush #244193 on Monday, January 21st and leave a vote for him so he can have a COTD badge of his own. We copied this on 1/9 from the CMR page and hope our CC family will help Crush and his family with the V.I. shelter:
Would you please help our St.John Animal Care Center in the Animal Rescue League Shelter Challenge? All you have to do is go to : www.animalrescuesite.com. Click to feed the animals. After the " Thank you for feeding the animals " comes up there will be tabs, running from top to bottom on the RIGHT hand side. THIRD DOWN is " Shelter Challenge ". Click the tab. It will come up with a bunch of boxes to find the shelter you want. ONLY ANSWER "COUNTRY". UNITED STATES VIRGIN ISLANDS.. We are The Animal Care Center of St.John. After you click to vote you have to confirm your vote by putting numbers and letters in the box. After the first time, every time you go to the shelter challenge ( every day I hope ) it will tell you which shelter you voted for the day before so it's easy. Thank you for helping. They are a tiny shelter that does a lot.
Please visit our January candidate for COTM, Barney #74382, and leave a vote for him so he can become our February King. Also, please visit and leave a vote for our current COTM, Queen Angel Sugar #62813, who is showing us around her island paradise and giving us some first paw information about the Virgin Islands.
This is Sienna and family, along with Linguini and family thanking you for your continued support of our Special Recognition Candidates. For your enjoyment and pleasure we are leaving you a big pot of homemade tuna and fish heads chili, crunchy cricket cookies and hot catnip tea to keep us warm during this cold time of year. Please vote Julius Steven (240643) Mon. Nov. 26
This handsome little guy is the newest member of one of the nicest families in our CC community. He was born on the eve of the 4th of July to Bagheera Boo. His dad is Champagne De Lancer. When he was born it was love at first sight, and his family knew he was right where he belonged, in his furever home. Like most of us he has some things that annoy him, like loud noises and storms, but in general he is a gentle, loving and beloved member of his family. He loves playing with the other kittens in his family, and while he enjoys his play, his family enjoys watching him play every bit as much.
He needs our support to help him get a shiny COTD badge to add to his page. So let’s all put our paws on his vote button and make his day.

Also, please keep those COTM votes rolling toward Steve (206575) so this handsome Orange Kitty , can wear the December COTM crown as our King. Remember to let him know how much fun it’s been sharing his stories of friendship and sidekicks.
Please remember to stop in to visit our current COTM, Queen Lily(166596) to let her know how much we’ve enjoyed her reign, and especially the marvelous events at the Castle and the fabulous tour of Chicago. Finally, on behalf of the whole CMR team, this is Pete and the Girls, and Princess and Sib's, thanking you for your continued support of the CMR’s special recognition COTD campaigns & our remarkable COTM candidates.

Come visit me, Q. Princess Lee "RIP" Aunt Samantha Knight!!!!!!!!, Peanut Lee " RIP" Sweet Velvet Knight!!!!!!!!!!!!! & Clover Lee "RIP" Pappoose alway's Loved!!!!!!!!!!!.

She’s so quick & light on her paws that she can catch it in mid-air to delight her humans as they swirl it through the air. Being a young kitty she still enjoys running loops around the living room furniture, seeking out new adventures, & picking on her fursibs. PLEASE VOTE MONDAY FOR MARIE'S TUMBLEWEEDS #238074
PLZ vote MARIE’S TUMBLEWEEDS #238074 Mon 10/29 This week’s special recognition kitties are the 4 of 5 furbabies left behind after their beloved mom Marie was called by the angels after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer. The TUMBLEWEEDS #238074…Itsy Bitsy (F-14), Add-a-Line (F-10) , Rusty Buckets (M-9) and Blondie (F-9)…were well known by their new furever family before they came to live with them. Their previous ‘owner’ was known for her gentle, kind & loving approach as each day dawned anew, yet the torment in her eyes about the welfare of her fubabies when she feared “something might happen to her” , was obvious to her dear furiends when they talked to her. They put her mind at ease one day when they agreed to take all of her precious kitties if anything happened & it lifted her spirits to give her the peace of mind that all human feline parents deserve. About a week before their mom was called to the angels she placed a call to her dear furiends & said… "It’s time my friend, please come get them because I can't care for them and spend time with them the way they deserve". This was heartbreaking news for the kitties, but also for the dear furiends because they knew she wouldn’t give them up unless she had no other choice. And so they came into their new furever home where they’re loved dearly, just as their angel mom intended! They got their group name when their fur came out during grooming time & rolled into little balls that kept skirting around the room, just like tumbleweeds. It made their new parents laugh to watch it & from that moment forward they were known as MARIE’S TUMBLEWEEDS #238074. Itsy Bitsy & Add-a-Line had the most trouble adjusting to their new home but eventually they settled into a quiet, normal routine & have come to love their new parents just as much as their fursibs. Not only would we like to honor MARIE’S TUMBLEWEEDS #238074 today but also the loving mom they lost & their new adoring parents. Please pounce by to paw a COTD vote to MARIE’S TUMBLEWEEDS #238074 today (Monday October 29th) so that their angel mom will smile when she knows how special we think they are too. Please keep pawing those daily votes to our COTM nominee LILY #166596 so that this hauntingly beautiful black kitty can be crowned as our November queen after KING LEO #188022 completes his royal duties for the month of October! This is Zaboo & NICE Crew, Simba & the BHG, along with Duchess & sibs leaving you a catnip ghost cookie & a small lighted jack-o-lantern as our way of thanking all of you for your loyal support of our fine candidates. Have a safe & happy Halloween everyone!
P.S.. WE ARE KEEPING ALL THOSE IN THE PATH OF HURRICANE SANDY IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. WE HOPE EVERYONE AFFECTED WILL BE SAFE AND KEEP US UPDATED ON THE CMR PAGE #46883.

Come visit me, Simba & the BHG Family - THANKFUL FOR FRIENDS! & BIG BLACK.

~RAINBOW SCOOP 10/26/2012~
From the cloud of the Angel Sherman…SURPRISE CAMPAIGN FOR ANGEL TIGER #34768! This precious angel has been a quiet member of our community for over 5 years but doesn’t have any badges on her page & very few visitors. She was adopted shortly after her mother had crossed the rainbow bridge when she was just a young kitten. She lived for many years in her happy furever home until the angels called her home on August 1st of this year. She & her family are not ‘regular’ bloggers but they’ve been seen congratulating winners recently so we’d like them to know their efforts to be part of the community have not gone unnoticed. Please vote Bella (235772) COTD Mon. Oct. 22nd
Bella is a charming and Beautiful 1 year old. (Her name means beautiful in Italian) Bella was abandoned and rescued by the local Humane Society and the wonderful people at Petsmart held an adoption day where Bella met her new family. It was love at first sight.
Bella was a little skittish when she first came to her new furrever home but she’s adjusted well and spends her days being loved and offering love in return. She’s playful and full of mischief. She likes to hide in her kitty tent and reach her paw out to play with rollerball toys.
She enjoys being petted, doesn’t like being brushed and really likes to tease her older brother, Button. One of her favorite treats is mashed potatoes.
Bella’s Brother, Button, got his COTD badge last month and has been teasing her about it ever since. Let’s all pounce on this very special kitty’s vote button so that she can have her very own shiny COTD badge.
Also, please keep those COTM votes rolling toward Lily (166596) so this sweet girl, a beautiful black kitty, can wear the November COTM crown as our Queen. Please remember to stop in to visit our current COTM, King Leo (188022) to let him know how much we appreciate his information on our wild cousins. His blogs have introduced us to cats that we never knew existed and he’s made us aware of the danger to our wild cousins from loss of habitat and the encroachment of civilization. Finally, on behalf of the whole CMR team, this is Pete and the Girls, and Princess and Sib's, thanking you for your continued support of the CMR’s special recognition

From the cloud of the Angel Sherman…SURPRISE CAMPAIGN FOR ANGEL LOLA #227723! This beautiful girl was picked up at a breeder’s on 5/22/2004 after the pleas of her young owner finally reached the ears of her parents. Lola & her newfound furiend played together all of the time. She got pushed around in a baby carriage, had special princess parade events & birthday celebrations, plus she helped open her young owner’s birthday gifts. She was the purrfect listener & sat very attentively as her mommy talked about any troubles she was having. At the end of 2011, Lola started getting sick & she was called by the angels on the night of October 14. She’s dearly missed by her young mom & we’d like to help honor her life & the joy she brought to this young cat lover by asking all of you to slink quietly by her page today (Friday October 19th) to paw her an ACOTD vote. While you’re there please check out all of the fabulous pics in her gallery & read her info so you’ll see what a special furbaby she was & the happiness she brought into the life of her beloved mommy.

Please keep sending those special daily votes to our current COTM candidate LILY #166596. This black beauty is keeping us hovering over the edge of our clouds as she meows about superstitions, fact & fantasy that all feline lovers will appreciate as she quests for the November crown.

Hi Chai Chai
Please Vote Verona #230517 for COTD on 10/15

Verona #230517 is a beautiful Himalayan kitty who is also known to her family as, "The Vicious Clawed Paw", and she loves to play and play and then play some more. Some of the things that Verona #230517 loves to play with are aluminum foil and rubber bands. Verona enjoys dunking rubber bands in her water dish and takes great pleasure in stealing the rubber bands first before giving them a good soaking. Verona #230517 makes a game of chase for her Grandpa and mom when it is time for her to be put in the bathroom for night time sleeping. She insists that they catch her first before she will let them put her in her sleeping quarters. That game keeps her humans active and gives them some exercise before they go to sleep also. ***Vote Callie Knight 239447 Mon Oct 8***
Beautiful Callie spent most of her life with her first momma, Barbara, cousin the CC's beloved Knight Family. Unfortunately, Barbara went to forever sleep in November of last year and Callie was immediately taken in by her cousins. They originally planned to find her a new home but no one responded to the flyers put out all around town. Now, she is a permanent member of the Knight family and the Girl Power Crew. She spends most of her time in a private crate due to her not be fond of other cats, but she is getting better and spending more time out of the crate. Callie enjoys opening cupboard doors, laying next to her dad watching tv and playing with her toys in her crate. Please paw on by her page 239447 and help her get her very own COTD badge. And don't forget about our current COTM candidate, the gorgeous Lily 166596. I know she appreciate your visit and vote. *VOTE ANGEL NALA #144744 ACOTD *
From the cloud of the NICE Angels…Beautiful Nala #144744 was the first cat to ever grace the home of the ARL Alumni but it would never have happened without the begging of young son Erik & the presence of a cat at his babysitter’s house. Nala #144744 made such an impression on mom that soon the house was filled with purrs of love from other furry furbabies & their lives without felines became a distant memory. As many of you know Nala #144744 became an angel at 12:34pm on August 29th, 2012 but some of you may not know that her beloved master Erik was away at Marine boot camp when it happened. When he called mom to tell her the good news about completing it & heading home, he naturally asked about his special cat. Mom shared the heartbreaking news with him but he doesn’t know that she’d asked us earlier to do something special for him by doing an ACOTD campaign for his beloved kitty when he got here. We’re asking everyone to please run, pounce or fly to paw a vote to ANGEL NALA #144744 on Friday October 5th. It will not only honor her memory but will also honor the service to our country of Erik, one of our newest Marines!

Congratulations to KING LEO #188022, our Cat of the Month for October! Your campaign was one that let us understand other breeds of cats that share our community & we hope you made some beautiful memories to put in your royal scrapbook for all your visitors to see.
Please vote daily in October for our COTM candidate, LILY #166596 & read the fact, fiction, superstition & folklore surrounding cats in our world as this beautiful black kitty works her paws to the bone writing & delivering blogs on her quest for the November crown. A Funny Story from England
A woman has claimed that sightings of a "lion"--which sparked an extensive search by Essex Police--were of her large pet cat, Teddy Bear. A search for the "very large animal" seen in St. Osyth, near Clacton-on-Sea, on Sunday was called off on Monday. Ginny Murphy said her ginger Maine Coon cat, the largest domestic breed, regularly wanders into the field where the animal was spotted. She said she believes Teddy Bear was mistaken for a lion by holidaymakers. A search by police was triggered on Sunday evening when people staying at a caravan park reported sightings of "a very large animal" near Earl Hall Drive. Experts from Colchester Zoo and police firearms officers helped in the search. Police decided to call off the search after no trace of a big cat was found and they said the sightings were either of a large domestic cat or wildcat. Ms Murphy, of St. Osyth, said: "From the picture, he's identical-- he's big, he's always out in the fields. "Maine Coons like to hunt, and where he was is a particular area he likes to go. He's always coming back with birds." Her three-year-old pet is about 28in (70cm) in length. Gill and Steve Atkin, of Louth, Lincolnshire, photographed an animal in the field on Sunday afternoon. Mr Atkin had told police it was "definitely a very large animal, and possibly a lion, definitely a large cat". He added: "We witnessed it, I would say, for about 20 to 30 minutes cleaning itself and rolling about in the field." Speaking to the BBC on Tuesday, Mrs Atkin said: "The Mirror [newspaper] has made a bit of a farce of it this morning, saying it was a cat called Tom, but no, I don't think it was a domestic cat. "Whatever it was, it's definitely still out there." The first reported sighting was made by holidaymaker Bob Martin, who said he and his wife Denise saw a large cat and a lion "was the first thing that came to mind". "We believe we saw a large cat looking at a tree...it just sat there looking at us," he said. Essex Police have not released any details of the cost of the search, but have said about 25 officers were called to where the animal was seen, including specialist firearms officers and experts from Colchester Zoo. Two police helicopters, one with thermal imaging equipment, were also used to try to detect any trace of an animal. (Story from BBC News)

Good Afternoon from the King!
I am taking today just to thank everyone and cover some things that I want everyone to know. Tomorrow I will be bringing you a story from England which I hope you will enjoy.

Today we join the Cat Channel community in celebrating the life of Angel Queen Gracie. We are sad at her crossing but happy that she is determined to keep going strong even though her earthly body has failed her. There is a wake being held on Pinto Island (Gracie's page #173246) and I hope everyone stops by to join in the celebration.

I wish that I could answer each blog personally now, but there are simply too many and Mom is not up to it. I apologize for having to do a c/p and not being at the Castle to host every day. Queen Quincy will be on hand most days, and I will be there when possible. I hope everyone enjoys themselves doing whatever they wish at the Castle—within limits! MOL!!

Congratulations to our COTD PHILIPPE & MEI LI #237749. Congratulations, both of you! Please remember to check the CMR #46883 for all of the CMR News including COTD Campaigns, birthdays, adopti-days and crossing dates.

Cat Channel has had a glitch the past few days where sometimes the votes just don't work. It's been frustrating for Mom to hit the vote button and wait, and wait, and wait while the little circle goes around, then the page reloads with the vote button still there! When this happens, we might have to skip voting for every single cat just to get anything done! I hope everyone understands. Hugs, King Leo and the Zoos

Meet the KORAT
In their home country of Thailand, the Korat is a living symbol of luck and prosperity. They are quieter than the Siamese, to whom they are related, but they definitely will let you know what they are thinking. The compact, muscular body wears a short, easy-care coat in bluish-gray tipped with silver. In their native Thailand, the Korat is considered a symbol of good fortune. It’s easy to see why. Their blue-gray fur glistens like silver, their bright green eyes symbolize prosperity, and their heart-shaped face is said to bring happiness to brides. The medium-size Korat is muscular but compact, weighing 6 to 10 pounds. The breed is slow to mature and may not reach their full physical and emotional development until the age of 5 years. For instance, the eyes do not achieve their luminous green color until the Korat is 2 to 4 years old. Expect them to be closely involved in everything you do, from reading the paper, to preparing meals, to paying bills. When you are home, your Korat will always be near or on you, and they won’t like being left alone for hours on end. The Korat is less talkative than their Siamese cousins, but they definitely know how to express themselves both verbally and with body language. You will know if they don’t approve of what you’re doing or how you’re feeding them. The Korat is well suited to any home with people who will love them and give their gorgeous coat a weekly combing. Keep them indoors to protect them from cars, diseases spread by other cats, attacks from other animals, and simply to prevent their curiosity from leading to the end of their nine lives. The demanding and intelligent Korat rules his household with an iron paw sheathed in velvet. They love attention and like to think of themselves as being in charge, whether of other pets or the people in their family. They can be a bit stuck up, preferring the company of other Korats to that of any other pets, yet they are affectionate with their people and calm with children. The Korat is not fond of loud noises or a lot of commotion. This is a gentle cat who likes to snuggle. A quiet, happy chirp indicates their satisfaction. Gentle they may be, but the Korat is also energetic, playful, and highly intelligent. Challenge their brains by teaching them tricks and providing them with puzzle toys that will reward them with kibble or treats when they learn to manipulate them. Always choose a kitten from a breeder who raises litters “under foot” and handles them from an early age. Meet at least one and ideally both of the parents to ensure that they have nice temperaments. (information from vetstreet.com)

Please give our new COTM candidate, LILY #166596 your support during October. She will make a wonderful Queen! Also be sure to check the CMR #46883 for birthday, adoption days and crossing anniversaries for today. Hugs and Purrs, King Leo and the Zoos

PLEASE VOTE PHILIPPE & MEI LI #237749 OCTOBER 1st
Philippe & Mei Li #237749 were being cared for at the local animal shelter, and every day they waited in anticipation for their furever family to come along! As it turns out, they were both adopted in 2011, but in different months. Philippe was 4.5 years old when he went home in March with his new loving family, and Mei Li was
1 year old when she was adopted in July! These precious kitties both share the same CC page #237749, but have their own very special purrsonalities! Philippe is a very mellow laid back kitty! And Mei Li is very playful and loves to be petted! They both enjoy sitting by the window and watching the birdies outside, as you can see by the cute photo in their gallery! Their adoptive pawrents are long time beloved members of our CC family, and their fursib, King Angel Henry was COTM in September of 2011. We hope you will stop by and leave a vote for Philippe & Mei Li #237749 so they can be awarded their very own shiny COTD badge!

We offer heartfelt thanks of appreciation to King Sammy #163474 for a magnificent reign as our September King! We congratulate King Leo #188022, our new King of October and invite you to visit him at the castle! THANK YOU TO ALL!
Mom had a blog all ready for today about some breed of cat, but I told her it could wait until tomorrow. Right now, I want to take a moment to thank every one of you for supporting me throughout the month of September. For all of you who put me in their tag lines, I thank you. For all of you who visited every single day, I thank you! For Boo Kitty and Mom Jane, a special thank you for the beautiful pictures they have made for me. For Simba and the BHG, a special thank you for taking time to come by every day when we know that your Mom has trouble using the computer. (That goes for many of you!) For Spongie and his Mom, who visited daily even though Mom Lynn is in constant pain—not only Thank You, but also Prayers that your pain will soon be cured, Lynn. To Duchess’ family, who took time yesterday to vote even though they were mourning their beautiful boy Tom who had crossed the Bridge. And of course, to King Sammy for writing such interesting blogs about Library cats during his campaign and reign! Honestly, I could just go on and on, but there really are too many special kitties and not enough room. Know that every one of you is special, and I love you all!

Congratulations today to Angel Frosty for winning her ACOTD Badge. Celebrating a birthday today is SEBASTIEN #143982. Happy Birthday, Sebastien! Observing their crossing anniversaries are MOE #149380 (6 yrs.) and GINNY #28404 (2 yrs.). Please let them know they are not forgotten.

We’ll see everyone tonight at the coronation! Hugs and a HUGE thank you, Leo and the Zoos

Manx/Cymric/Tasman
The Manx is a breed of cat with a naturally occurring mutation that shortens the tail, resulting in a range of tail lengths from normal to tailless. Many Manx have a small 'stub' of a tail, but Manx cats are best known as being entirely tailless; the distinguishing characteristic of the breed. The Manx is a shorthaired breed, while the Cymric is identical to the Manx in all ways apart from having a long coat. The Manx breed originated before the 1700s on the Isle of Man (hence the name), where they are common. They are called stubbin in the Manx language. Tailless cats were common on the island as long as three hundred years ago. Folk beliefs claim the Manx Cats came from the Spanish Armada; a ship foundered on Spanish Rock on the coast of the Isle of Man. According to legend, the cats on the ship swam ashore and became an established breed. The Manx tailless gene is dominant and many breeders mate tailless to tailed cats to avoid problems associated with kittens that inherit two copies of the gene, one from either parent. The hind legs of a Manx are longer than the front legs, creating a continuous arch from shoulders to rump giving the cat a rounded appearance. Manx kittens are classified according to tail length: Rumpy--no tail (This is the ideal show cat) Riser or rumpy riser--stub of cartilage or several vertebrae under the fur, most noticeable when kitten is happy and raising its 'tail' Stumpy--partial tail, more than a 'riser' but less than 'tailed' Tailed or longy--complete or near complete tail. The Manx has a double coat with a thick, short under-layer and a longer, coarse outer-layer with guard hairs. The Cymric, known to some cat registries as the long-haired Manx, has a silky-textured double coat of medium length, with britches, belly and neck ruff, tufts of fur between the toes and full ear furnishings. The latest addition to this trio of sister breeds is the Tasman Rex and Tasman Manx. They form a breed group newly recognized by in New Zealand by the NZCF. Curly coated kittens began showing up in purebred Manx litters in New Zealand and test mating to Devon and Cornish Rex showed that this was a new recessive gene. The lines trace back to an outcross to a Persian from the UK, and Rexed Persians have been observed in some UK lines but not explored. Breeding continues in NZ and breeders are pursuing breed progression. (information courtesy rarecatbreeds.com)

Russian Black, White and Tabby cats
The Russian Black, White and Tabby cats derived from the Russian Blue, so they basically have the same physical characteristics with the only difference being in the coat color. The Russians are gentle and affectionate cats that will never get bored entertaining you and your family. They do not, however, tend to be destructive like some other breeds. The Russians are intelligent, quiet and sensitive. They can easily learn how to open doors, closets, and drawers, so if you have one of these wonderful cats, don’t be surprised to find things open that you would swear you had closed. They can also train their people to perform simple tasks such as throwing toys so that the Russians can retrieve them. Loyal and devoted, the Russians make really good companions for your entire family. The coat of the Russians is soft, plush, silky and dense. It has clear tipping that gives the coat an overall lustrous sheen. The undercoat is fine and downy. Little grooming is necessary. Russet Burmese, a rare new color of Burmese
Russet is the name that has currently (not necessarily permanently) been given to a new color pattern which has popped up in a line of Seal Burmese in New Zealand. As kittens russets look rather like tabbies. However, they have pink noses and pads, pale muzzles, pale fur around the pads and genitalia and a pale tail-tip - all these areas are dark in tabbies. Also, as younger kittens the back is more solidly dark then ticked, changing to pale ivory about halfway down the flanks, and the area around the eyes and the muzzle are also ivory. The back develops a more ticked appearance in older kittens, and the face also turns reddish at this stage. As they mature they turn much redder, the reddest of them is quite similar to a red Burmese. However, unlike red, this color doesn't appear to be sex linked, but to be inherited as a recessive. There are clear similarities to the new amber color in Norwegian Forest Cats, particularly in the progression to reddish adult coloring. However, there are also significant differences. Ambers have dark nose leathers and pads – these are pink in russets. Non-agouti ambers are very dark as young kittens (somewhat similar to smokes rather than tabbies), and have a dark face which is the last part to go red. Russets are born with off-white faces (color probably influenced by the Burmese gene), which are the first, not the last part of the cat to go red. They also have distinct tabby-like pale undersides as kittens, which ambers don’t. The change to red seems slower in russets than ambers, which change within the first few months. However, that could just be the result of different timing of major moults in cats born at different times of year (Information from rarecatbreeds.com) NOTE—I tried to find more information on this new color/breed of Burmese, but it is very hard to come by. These cats are very rare.

Congratulations to Puff #212387 on being today’s COTD. Isn’t she gorgeous? Today’s SHOUT-OUT is for SUEZEE KNIGHT #11528. Suezee is one of the “quiet” Knight kitties so she doesn’t get much attention. Let’s change that! There are no birthdays, adoption anniversaries or crossing anniversaries today, but many kitties need prayers. Stop by the CMR #46883 for the list in the CMR Newsletter. Hugs, Leo and the Zoos

Ocicat--a wild look in a lovable housecat!
The first Ocicat was the unexpected result of an experimental breeding in the USA over 40 years ago between an Abyssinian and a Siamese. The addition of the American shorthair to the original mix has provided genetic diversity, giving us the beautiful and robust Ocicat. Ocicats are not prone to any genetic diseases. The Ocicat has been bred specifically to look like a wild cat with its fabulous spotted sleek coat, rippling muscles, strong body and good solid build. The Ocicat is so named because of its resemblance to an Ocelot, but no wild blood has been used to produce this beautiful animal. While the Ocicat looks wild, its temperament is anything but ferocious. They are a beautiful, wild looking cat with the best domestic cat personality, very active and ready to play, but willing to purr on your lap too. The Ocicat is confident as well as dedicated to its owners. The Ocicat has the predictable temperament and the personality of a highly intelligent domestic cat, with the beauty and allure of a wild cat. Their personalities and temperaments are predictable and loving - they make a wonderful addition to any household. They generally adapt readily to most situations, including children and other pets. The Ocicat is a large, active cat with an athletic appearance. It is a very solidly built cat with a short, tight coat. The satin sheen shows off muscles and spots to their best advantage. The pattern on the coat is very special. The spots are like a thumbprint, and the bigger the spots the better! The Ocicat coat comes in many beautiful colors, all of which are also repeated in the ‘silver’ series where the spots are highlighted on a silver background. Accepted colors are chocolate spotted, tawny spotted, cinnamon spotted, blue spotted, lavender spotted, fawn spotted, chocolate spotted silver, cinnamon spotted silver, blue spotted silver, lavender spotted silver, black spotted silver and fawn spotted silver. The Ocicat has become extremely popular in USA,Europe and England and is now available in Australia. Once you have met and come to know an Ocicat and all it has to offer, you will understand their wonderful appeal. The Ocicat provides the best of both worlds - it looks like a wild cat with its fabulous spotted sleek coat, rippling muscles, strong body and good solid build, but it is no threat to the family dog!! Australian Mist, a beautiful breed of cat
The Australian Mist was developed by Dr Truda Straede in Australia beginning in 1976. The breed was developed by crossing the Burmese, Abyssinian, and Domestic shorthair cats to create a shorthaired cat with a spotted coat. The name was changed from 'Spotted Mist' to 'Australian Mist' in 1998 when cats with marbled coats, rather than spots, were accepted as part of the breed. Australian Mists are medium-sized, shorthaired cats, with a round head and large, expressive eyes. The coat patterns have three levels of definition; (1) a ground color, paler than pattern; (2)a delicate pattern, distinct from ground color; (3) the pattern makes the cat appear to be wearong a misted veil, caused by random ticking in the solid color areas. The legs and tail are ringed or barred, and the face and neck also have delicate lines of color. They make perfect pets for children of all ages, even very young ones. They are tolerant of handling, and are not inclined to scratch. As kittens they are lively, but they sober up a little on maturity. Their life expectancy is in the mid to late teens. Australian Mists thrive on human contact, making them happy to remain indoors. Some Mists can be trained to go for walks on a lead. Their tendency to crawl into the nearest lap with or without invitation and to constantly hang around to see what people are up to makes them excellent companions for people who work from home and those house bound due to illness or disability. Spayed and neutered cats and kittens fit in easily with all sorts of cats and dogs. Selective breeding has further enhanced these qualities, creating a truly companionable pet. Australian Mists will quickly become a member of the family. (information from Wikipedia.org)

Khao Manee--GORGEOUS!
For most people in the US or Europe a 'Siamese' cat is the famous seal point with their wedge shaped head and blue eyes. But in their native Siam it is the Khao Manee 'White Jewel', sometimes known as the Khao Plort ('All White') which is the most popular and celebrated of the traditional breeds and recent research has uncovered that they, not the seal point, were the true Royal Cats of Old Siam. The Khao Manee which can be identified by their pure white fur and eyes of differing colors. Theyf are among the most exotic and interesting of all cats. Some have pairings of one blue and one emerald green eye, while others have blue and yellow pairings and are sometimes called "Gold & Silver Eyes". Some have both blue, both yellow or both green eyes. It is only recently that the genetic mutations that produce the diamond eye have been understood. The Khao Manees' popularity goes back many years. The Tamra Maew or Cat Book of Poems (1350 - 1767), the ancient Siamese treatise on cats, describes it as: a “completely white cat, eyes of clear mercury, this cat if in any house, brings long life and title, material wealth coming in with no decrease will be entertained with all things in happiness.” They were a particular favorite of Rama V, one of Siam's greatest Kings, who bred and fixed the type, and were closely guarded in the royal palace. The penalty (so legend has it) for a commoner stealing one was death. They all have a marvelous temperament, and show great trust in humans. If given love and proper care they make excellent pets. (thanks to yabz.com for this information)

Please vote Whiskers #227256 on 9/24/12 for COTD!!
Whiskers is a remarkable eight year old tuxedo cat who has such a winning purrsonality that everyone who meets him is charmed by his manner and bearing. He began life as the kitten of a feral mother, who delivered her litter in his soon-to-be family’s yard. Under his mom’s loving care, he quickly progressed from a frightened feral kitten to a self-confident, loving member of the family.
He recently earned his silver wings as a member of the Royal Pilot’s Squadron and in addition to organizing K Mike’s bachelor party; he flew a lot load after load of the guests to Pinto Island for the Wedding.
During his flight training, K Pete gave him highest marks and noted that he’d never had a better student. Whiskers applied himself to his studies in diligent manner and was rewarded with one of the highest test scores ever attained on the FAA flight exam. (That’s Feline Aviation Administration) His flight test examiner, Talley, said she felt as though she was flying with an experienced pilot rather than a student.
His mom has a new human grand-kitten (named George) and has been visiting the new arrival. As a result Whiskers has been offline. He should be back on line on Monday. Let’s welcome him back with a bright shiny COTD badge for his page. We can make this happen if we all hit that vote button for this fine member of our CC family
Also, please keep those COTM votes rolling toward Leo (18022) so this sweet guy can wear the October COTM crown as our King. Please remember to stop in to visit our current COTM, King Sammy (163474) to let him know how much we appreciate the remarkable Library, Playground, and Media center that he is creating on the Castle Grounds. It truly is a remarkable facility and is destined to be a cultural center for our whole CC community.

Singapura, a good thing in a small package
Even the smallest feline is a masterpiece, said Leonardo da Vinci. The Singapura is evidence of that truth. Known for being the smallest of the domestic cats (four to seven pounds), this one-time Singapore street cat is considered a living national treasure by that nation-state’s government. They are noted for their big ears; big eyes in hazel, green or yellow; a small muscular body; and a short, ivory-colored background coat with brown ticking that gives them the appearance of having stepped out of a sepia-toned photo. Nicknamed the Pura, this cat is impish, inquisitive, intelligent and full of energy. They may be little, but they are a powerhouse, leaping to high places—including your shoulder—and supervising everything that goes on in the home. When not running along the top of the bookshelf or chasing after a toy, they are seeking out a lap where they can relax. The Singapura is an extrovert and can usually get along with everyone, including other cats, friendly dogs and well-behaved children. The Pura’s short coat is easy to groom with weekly brushing. Trim the nails and clean the ears as needed. The Singapura is well suited to any home with people who will love him and care for him. Keep them indoors to protect them from cars, diseases spread by other cats and attacks from other animals. The Singapura is a natural breed and is not outcrossed to any other breeds. They are a tiny cat and do not reach their full size of five to eight pounds until they are about two years old. The Singapura comes in only one color, brown ticked agouti, described as dark brown ticking against a yellowish ivory background. Looking out at the world are eyes of celadon green, hazel, gold or copper with dark mascara markings and facial lines. On the forehead the Singapura is marked with the tabby M shape. Today we learn about the Munchkin
The Munchkin cat has been developed purely as an oddity and is the first short-legged feline to be taken seriously as a breed. Critics of this breed (and they are many) point out that, apart from its lack of lithe feline grace, it has great difficulty in grooming itself and also runs the risk of suffering from premature aging of its unnaturally long spine. The critics feel that it is unlikely that this breed will ever obtain wide popularity as a pedigree show cat. Munchkins are self-assured, curious, confident and outgoing cats. It is a breed seemingly unhampered by their unique genetic make-up. They are amusing to watch, very social and outgoing and playful. In spite of their short legs, they can run very fast, with climbing not posing any problems for these agile cats. They are easily trained to walk on a harness. They are said to be the eternal kitten, a friendly and playful cat which never loses its kitten characteristics. Naturally, with such short legs, movement will be somewhat restricted compared to normal legged cats, especially jumping and climbing, but they are quite able to jump up onto chairs like any other cat. It is actually a dwarf rather than a miniature cat, with the long bones of the legs being shorter than that of a normal cat. They do not breed true; that is, they do not consistently breed short-legged kittens. Litters of kittens born to either a male or female are, on average, half short-legged. These are the true Munchkins. The long-legged offspring are non-standard and do not possess the Munchkin gene. Because of their appealing characteristics, including good head type, temperament and conformation, long-legged offspring are often used in breeding programs. However most are found in homes as pets. They look like any ordinary cat, except for its dwarf-like legs which are similar to the legs of a Dachshund, and are also slightly bowed. Unlike the Dachshund though, the Munchkin has been found to suffer from no spinal abnormalities and is said to be no more prone to skeletal problems than any normal long-legged cat. Munchkins can be either shorthaired or longhaired and the semi-longhaired Munchkin has a weatherproof coat of a shaggy appearance. It is a medium sized breed, which looks smaller than it actually is because of its short legs. The body is solid and rounded and must not be too slender or cobby. The head is the shape of an equilateral triangle, with medium sized ears and large walnut shaped eyes. The legs are only about half the size of the ordinary cat’s legs, with the elbows held higher; these should lie close to the ribcage. The hind legs are slightly longer than the front legs. PixiBob, a less exotic breed of cat
This unusual cat looks wild, but his behavior is mild. The Pixiebob is a medium-size to large cat. Their coat may be short or long, usually in a brown spotted tabby pattern. It is unique among cat breeds because his breed standard permits polydactylism, meaning he can have more than the usual number of toes. Big, lively and outgoing, the Pixiebob’s devotion to his people belies his somewhat wild look. They love spending time with their family, and it’s not unusual for them to learn to walk on a leash or chase after a toy and bring it back. They like to be in the center of family goings-on, but have a calm, relaxed attitude, making them more restful to be around than some other cat breeds. The Pixiebob is talkative, chirping and chattering as they tell you about their day. They weigh between eight and 17 pounds and live for 13 or more years. Brush your Pixiebob once a week to remove dead hair and keep the coat shiny and healthy. The only other grooming they need is regular nail trimming, tooth brushing, and ear cleaning. The Pixiebob is well suited to any home with people who will love them and care for them. (information via vetstreet.com)
