One way to keep your cat safe & healthy is to create a first-aid kit so you have supplies on hand if a minor health incident arises. Include the following items in a sturdy plastic container, store it in an easily accessible area, preferably next to your cat carrier so you have everything handy in case you need to take your cat to the veterinarian:

1. Contact information
2. Veterinarian’s information
3. Directions/phone # for nearest ER animal hospital
4. Cat’s vaccination records
5. Photograph of cat
6. Cotton balls or pads
7. Gauze pads, gauze bandage roll & adhesive tape
8. Hydrogen peroxide
9. Antibiotic ointment
10. Hydrocortisone ointment
11. Small scissors with blunt ends
12. Tweezers
13. Oral syringe
14. Sterile eyewash solution
15. Rubber gloves
16. Antiseptic wipes or cleaner
17. Cotton swabs
18. Cornstarch or styptic powder
19. Ice pack (keep in freezer til needed)

I’m sorry that it’s taking me so long to thank you purrsonally for your kind visit and caring thoughts. Your votes, sent to me on Christmas day, gave me a second COTD badge, and while the COTD badge was a wonderful gift, what is so much more important, is your love and friendship.
It’s true that I haven’t been feeling well lately, but your special thoughts and prayers have helped me so much. I’ve gotten my appetite back and dad says I’m eating like I used to. I have more energy and no “litter box accidents”. You gave us our Christmas Miracle and for that all of us are grateful.

Thank you so much for stopping by to visit! We truly appreciate all the votes and congratulations that have come my way yesterday and today! You are the most generous kitties in the whole world, you share your time, your thoughts, and best of all --- your love!

I enjoy having company and everyone who comes in my front door is greeted by me, MOL! I've never met a stranger and love people, dogs, and cats equally. I especially like to rub against black pants legs, my bright orange fur will really stand out and shine!

Please fix yourself a big plate of fish - fried or grilled - your choice. Deidre has fixed a bowl of sushi style if you prefer it like that. Find a comfy cushion with your food and a purring kitty will bring you a bowl of milk. I'm looking forward to visiting with you and catching up on all the news!

Happy Thursday, November 4th my friends. My goodness, the week is going by so fast, isn’t it? This has been a whirlwind week for us, visiting and talking to so many kitty friends....What fun!

I don’t know about you, but I'm ready for an easy recipe today. :) I think we found one that should fit the bill. Not only is it easy, it’s quick and fun to eat, too! And to those who don’t want any chocolate, please don’t forget to read my tip!

Peanut Blossom Cookies

Yield: 4 dozen
Ingredients
• 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
• 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 cups biscuit mix
• 1/3 cup sugar
• 1 (9-ounce) package milk chocolate kisses, unwrapped
Preparation:
- Combine milk and peanut butter, stirring until smooth; stir in vanilla. Add biscuit mix, stirring well.
- Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll balls in sugar, and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Make an indentation in center of each ball of dough with thumb or spoon handle.
- Bake at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove cookies from oven, and press a chocolate kiss in center of each cookie. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool completely.

Boo’s Tip: (1) It’s very important to unwrap those little chocolate kisses, okay? And don’t forget, just unwrap them, ‘cause we kitties can’t eat the kisses!!!
(2) For non-chocolate lovers – These little cookies are delicious with a half pecan or walnut placed in the center of each cookie, instead of the “traditional” chocolate kiss.

Tips & Tidbits from Boo Kitty ♥
Happy Monday, November 1, 2010!! I am honored and humbled to be chosen as a candidate for December COTM. I am also a little nervous, but I pledge that I will do my best, each and every day. This month’s catpaign will probably curtail my regular blogging to my good friends and I apologize in advance and hope that you will understand why you might not hear from me as regularly, as usual. I also look forward to meeting new kitties and making some new friends during the month, too.

I thought and thought and though about my platform and frankly, I’m only a one-year old kitty, so I don’t have a lot of experience - there are no other kitties in my family so I can’t talk about them, and I’m not talented, nor do I do tricks. However….I do like to supervise my Mom in the kitchen, so with the Holidays coming, I thought, why not share some holiday treat recipes with all of you?

My good friend, Sammi Sue was our beautiful Queen in June and in both May and June, she delighted the entire channel with many wonderful recipes for kitties and some for hoomans, too! Well, I think she’s got us kitties covered for quite a while, so I thought I’d share hooman Holiday Goody Recipes. I’ll have mostly cookies, some cookie bars, a few candies, and some fun appetizers to whip up when company drops by. Many of the recipes are some that my Mom has made through the years and some were passed to her by special friends. And, for a very special treat, I will be including recipes from some of the CC Kitties and their families, too!

So, with all that said, Welcome to “Tips & Tidbits from Boo Kitty”! (Thanks to the July King Zaboo & the Nice Crew for my new blog title!!)

My contribution will hopefully be a special little tip, each day. Today, I need to start slow and easy, and what could be easier than these tasty no-bake cookies?

No-Bake Chocolate-Oatmeal Cookies
Yield: 4 dozen
Ingredients
• 2 cups quick-cooking oats, uncooked
• 2/3 cup peanut butter
• 1 (3 1/2-ounce) can flaked coconut
• 1/4 cup cocoa
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 cups sugar
• 1/2 cup milk
• 1/4 cup butter or margarine
Preparation
Combine oats, peanut butter, coconut, cocoa, and vanilla, mixing well; set aside.
Combine sugar, milk, and butter in a small saucepan; bring to a boil. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Pour over reserved oat mixture; quickly stir to mix well.
Immediately drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper-lined baking sheets; let cool. Carefully remove from waxed paper to serve.

Boo’s Tip: You can add chopped pecans, walnuts or peanuts to the cookies for a fun addition.

THE BASICS: Remember, your cat probably thinks of you as another cat--big, hairless, not very skilled at the things that make for feline excellence, but a cat none the less. Therefore, she tries to communicate with you in the same way as she'd try to communicate with any other member of her own species.

To get on the same wavelength, you've got to let go of your dependance on verbal communication. Of course, your cat has a wide range of vocalizations which we will deal with later, but she uses them in a complex context of body language that endows them with full meaning.

Fortunatly, a cat's body language is mostly hardwired into his genetic makeup. While each cat has his own purrsonality which will color his individual behavior slightly, the basics apply to them all, and that makes feline body language a snap to learn.

What is your cat trying to say?

Your cat has 100's of ways to let you know what's going on in her mind--so many in fact, that the barrage of signals she sends your way can be a confusing babble if you don't understand them.

Imagine how you'd feel in a room full of foreigners if you didn't have your phrase book handy. They're trying to tell you something, but you just don't understand.

It's the same thing with your cat. His brain is brimming over with wants and needs, do's n don'ts, expectations & emotions. He wants to let you in on his secrets and it's frustratingfor him when you don't get the message. And you don't want him to be too frustrated because that leads to behavior problems that could sour your relationship with your cat.

Sharing your life with a cat is a lot like being married! Good communication is the key. You and your cat will come to grief if you shrug off his attempts to tell you what's on his mind with an absent-minded "Aww, isn't that cute?"

CHICKEN STIR FRY

Dice raw chicken breast. Heat oil in a wok or frying pan, and cook the meat quickly over a high flame, stirring all of the time. When the chicken is almost cooked, stir in a few flaked almonds for added crunch. Allow to cool and serve with a little plain boiled rice.

Good Morning, Dear Friends. We are doing OK here on the home front. Daddy goes for his echocardiogram today so we thought we would catpaign as much as possible before Momma has to get things ready to go here. This will be Cliffy's first outing with Daddy (Cliffy is Daddy's new Seeing Eye Dog) since Daddy hasn't been able to walk. Momma wants him to get out and keep his training fresh, so they will take him to the hospital today. It's beautiful here...sunny and warm already this morning. Momma got one of those zero gravity loungers and she and Daddy share it in the backyard. They are just amazing for someone with a bad back. Well, here is the recipe for today:

CHICKEN CHEESEBURGERS

2 oz finely ground beef
2 oz finely ground chicken
1 tbl canned thick chicken soup
2 oz whole grain bread crumbs or oatmeal
1 baby carrot, cooked until soft
1 egg
1/2 cup grated cheese
Mash the meat and chicken with the soup then add the bread crumbs or oatmeal, mushy carrot and egg. Make into two small burgers and broil (leaving much rarer than you would for yourself). Sprinkle with grated cheese and broil again until the cheese is melted. Allow to cool until warm to the touch, and serve.

Before we get to today's recipe, I would ask that you say a prayer or send good thoughts, whatever you believe in, to the families affected by the flooding. Some have lost everything, and we know prayers help, even for those we don't know. We are praying for BOO KITTY #154855 and EBBONNY #107616, today and everyday until they get well again~ Please stop by their pages today and wish them well. SUPER SALMON PATE

1 (6 ounce) can boneless, skinless salmon

1/4 cup bread crumbs

1/2 cup finely chopped celery (optional)

1 egg, beaten

1 envelope unflavored gelatin

1/2 cup water

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Combine all ingredients and mix well. Pack into a small fish-shaped mold (or other small mold) and bake for 45 minutes. Serve at room temperature.

We are so sorry to hear about pretty Sneakers going to forever sleep on Tuesday. We are glad her momma was able to make another year's worth of memories with Sneakers. The temperature was high 50 & low was 40 this morning, now it's 44 feels like 37 with humidity 68% & wind is 14 MPH. Friday's suppose to be Partly Cloudy & 56.

Mom's vet visit went well this morning and her Dr. said she needs to get off the caffeine (Pepsi and Xcedrin Migraine) then her headaches should be gone. Mom says "Give up Pepsi?" Tehehehe!!!! Mom has to go back in the morning for a blood draw.

ANNIVERSARY ON SATURDAY:
Me and my girlfriend Sissy Lee 6454 will be celebrating our 3 year Couples Anniversary on Saturday 4/10/2010. We have xchanged gifts and we will open them come Saturday. I am the luckiest guy in the Universe!!!! Tehehehe!!!!

Thursday was such a beautiful and warm day (66*) so we all got to go outside in the front yard. Yes, even me!!!! Dad bought me a new doggy harness (wait a minute, I'm not a D O G G Y!!!!) Oh well, I got to go outside, too, so it works for me. Tehehehe!!!!

There should be some sort of punishment allotted to humans who forget to give us Treats at the appointed time.
I am reasonably lenient. "Off with their heads!" is perhaps just a little old fashioned and besides that wouldn't help with the issue at hand. My methods are much more subtle and refined.
If Mama forgets or dawdles at Treat Time (what have I said about her priorities?), any convenient objects in the near vicinity become temporarily airborne. Have you ever noticed what a satisfying soft thump a pair of socks makes as it hits the floor? You should try it sometime. Anyway, of course it usually takes more than this to get Mama's full attention. One time she left a piece of yarn on the bed which worked very effectively not only as something to relieve my frustration on, but also to give her some idea of what might happen to HER pretty soon if she didn't hurry up.
Would you believe it? Sometimes she has even left the room after this - WITHOUT giving me treats first!
Well, I can tell you, when she comes back I give her an earful and if I have time while she's gone, a picture frame might follow that pair of socks I mentioned.
However, as I said before, I am reasonably lenient. I remind myself that she is only a human after all..

Thank you all soooo much for honoring me today as your favorite black kitty! What a special way for us to celebrate Halloween! Again, you all amaze us with your love and caring for our family. You were all there for us when we lost our dear Libby girl and now you are all back to give me my very own special day. Who would have thought almost 2 years ago when I sat in a tiny cage at the shelter? Waiting so patiently for the right family to come along, and hoping...then there was my mom and dad! We knew right away I belonged with them. And now look at me! I have a wonderful family who loves me dearly and thinks I am the most special black kitty anywhere, and I have all of you- my dear friends who all love me too. I am very honored to represent all of you, and all the beautiful black kitties here on the CC as your COTD! I want to also send a very special thank you for all of you who went over to remember my big brother, Sammy with a black cat vote! It warms my moms heart to see you remember our special boy today. As grumpy as she is with her siblings or other family members, Mistoffie adores her Mom. Mistoffie always wants to be with her mother and loves it when her Mom rubs her all over. Being 13 years old already, Mistoffie has had her bouts with illness. Earlier this year, Mistoffie got very sick and frail, and her Mom feared she might be nearing her Bridge crossing time. Mistoffie’s Mom sat with her, using a syringe to feed her special girl, staying up all night with her. Thankfully, Mistoffie recovered, convinced her Mom’s loving care made her all better. Mistoffolees is dedicating her Thursday, Oct. 15 COTD catpaign to her Mom. If she wins her COTD badge, Mistoffie meows it is not for her but for her dear Mom and their special bond of love! Not only that but Oct. 15th is the 18th Anniversary of Mistoffie’s loving parents getting hitched!

Kitty Boy -
Thank you all so very much for coming by with your wonderful notes remembering our dear Libby yesterday and today! Her getting COTD was a total surprise to us and made us so proud and happy along with the tears that keep coming.

We know that she got this badge not because we campaigned or because it was her turn, but because so many of you came to leave your notes of condolences to us, and to try and help us deal with the loss of our sweet girl. This alone means so much to us.

I am so grateful that we made so many dear friends here on the CC... I have never met a group of people (and kitties!) that care so much- are always there with advice- sharing your photos and stories- making us laugh and making us cry when something bad happens. Your concern and encouragement have helped me as I battle this illness I have that just won't go away. Coming by with notes and stories, even though you know I haven't always been able to get back to you as often as I used to. You have all made such a difference in our lives.

I don't know how I would have made it through Libby's illness and final days without all of you. I really treasure the friendships I have made here. I have truly been blessed. Thank you all again so much!

And a special thank you to my dear friend, Aileen and her Paddy (Libby's twin and dear friend) for delivering this message to all of you, knowing it would be a long long time before I was able to do it myself.

I am so glad Sneakers is doing better. And yes, we LOVE Halloween here. I am just now getting to everyone who visited me and voted for me the other day. We are starting at the beginning and working our way through. We think Mom forgot to let us on to even vote COTM yesterday. It was a very difficult and gut-wrenching day with the funeral Mass and burial of my skin brothers' friend. So now we are playing catch up. Today the temperature is a high of 80 with the humidity at 40% and the wind at 12 MPH. Monday is suppose to be Sunny with a high of 85.

Mom and dad took Whyskrs, Bahneetah, Jazpyr, Ebbonny and Pappoose outside for a few minutes this morning. Of course, mom held Pappoose cuz she has no halter and mom doesn't trust letting her walk around like the others.

BARNEY 74382 has a vet appointment on Monday for a re-check.

JAZPYR KNIGHT 10428 as he still has no energy & walks slow. Last night when mom went to close the bedroom window to the cattery, mom makes sure all the inside kitties are in and seen Jazpyr in the corner bed out there so she had to go outside to get in the cattery. By time she got out there, Jaz already got up and was walking the plank (walkway) to go inside but lost his balance and fell, luckily mom caught him in time as it's about a five foot drop to the floor. Mom had a talk with dad about him keep close watch on him when Jazpyr's not in the computer room with mom. He agreed to it. Mom told dad that Jaz is not allowed in the cattery til he's all well. Thank You for your prayers!!!

Our doggy sis, CARLY 11000 on DC seems to be all better so mom thinks it was a 24 hour bug.

She not only agreed to foster Tyler, she fell in love with him and couldn't let him go!

On Thursday, July 23, Tiny Tyler will celebrate his very 1st Birthday, a major milestone considering his rough start in life. At 3 weeks, kittens can stand, and begin to play, and by 7 weeks they are running, jumping, climbing ... and getting into all kinds of mischief!” Tyler certainly got what he needed and we are glad he did!
