How We Met

It all started when my daughter was going off to college and she did not want her dad to be lonely so went to the local Pet smart cat rescue to find a companion. I pick up several kittens and they were very anxious to get down and continue playing with the other kittens and then I pick up this green eyed all black, skinny kitten in the declared section of the rescue. I picked him up and the Pet smart clerk was about 80 years old and boy could she talk, telling me the stories of every cat in the thing I know it has been 45 minutes and Sadie has moved from one shoulder to the other meowing at the other kittens but at no time was he interested in getting down. Suddenly we all realized that he had finally chosen his companion.

This was the first time in 3 years that Jay and I both had business trips at the same time. Jay had several back to back conferences that would take her away for 17 days and my quarterly trip would last for about 20 days and that meant that Sadie would travel with me. Sadie is a good traveler and before I met Jay he would fly with me to New York 4 times a year. The president of the company wife has 10 cats and is an avid cat lover, she has donated over $2 million dollars to various cat organizations in the New York area. Six years ago she heard that I was having problems finding a sitter for Sadie so she told her husband to make arrangements for me to bring Sadie to the office and every trip since Sadie and I fly first class with Sadie having his own seat which allows me to work on my laptop while flying.

Before 9-11 security was easy but now we have to go into a separate room and I take Sadie out of his carrier while they X-ray his carrier. On the entire flight the American flight attendants were excellent toward Sadie. They allowed me to take Sadie out where he could rest on the seat and the flight attendant gave Sadie a blanket so that he could be comfortable.

Once we arrive at the office in New York the staff had not seen Sadie in three years and they had food and treats in all of the cat lover’s offices. They were amazed at how big Sadie has grown. It was like a buffet for Sadie since he grazes all day. The dog lovers were not happy with Sadie free reign in the office but when the boss’s wife speaks…it is the law. We was having a big meeting and I had my laptop out taking notes and naturally Sadie jump up on he lap top just like at home, the other managers gave me a bunch of dirty looks as to say how dare you have a cat in the meeting but the President said that his wife’s cats does the same thing to him…..So we laughed at the moment and Sadie eventually move on. All and all it was a good trip.
We had to fly to Miami and the American flight attendants were great. Sadie was not as friendly in Miami since this was his first rip to the office but after a day he started to explore and warm up to the staff and to find out where the treats were.

On our flight back to LA there was a lady with a small 4 pound toy terrier that would not stop barking, the attendants told her several times to try an quiet the little dog but to no avail after about an hour into the flight the dog jump out of her lap and ran up to our seats and he started barking at Sadie. Sadie flared up and howled and swiped at the dog from my lap table and the dog ran back to his owner and did not bark again for the rest of the three hour flight. Everyone applauded Sadie which scared him back into his carrier, any time there is turbulence he will jump back into carrier for safety. So he was the little hero since we all were being terrorized by the terrier barking.

Once we made it home I am not sure who Jay missed more me or Sadie, This was the first time in 4 years that

Come visit me, Sadie.
