From the mind of a cat!
Body: My name is "Forrest". And I am a catnip-aholic. I used to think that I could handle it, that I could quit any time I wanted to. But finally I had to face the grim reality. I was hopelessly addicted to catnip. I was up to 15 leaves a day. It was out of control. I would do anything for catnip!!!
At first I would just eat the tiny leaves at the top and let the rest of the plant branch out and grow. But then I wanted more and more! I started looking for the plants and not just waiting until my human picked them and served them to me. Then, at the end I would just lay down on the plant and gobble it up. I did not even care that I was crushing it and destroying the plant. I just couldn't stop, I had to have it all.
My catnip cravings were starting to control my daily routines. I lost interest in mice. The cat toys rolled under the couch or stove and were forgotten. All I could think about is where to find more catnip. I even sunk to running eagerly to my humans when they brought me more catnip, with no more dignity than an ordinary dog would show. Catnip was ruining my life.
The humans were not helpful. They were catnip enablers. They would leave those tantalizing little felt mice stuffed with catnip around. They would bring plants home and plant them in the garden. They made excuses when I binged and kept saying how cute it was. It wasn't cute, I was hooked!
Forunately, I found Catnipaholic Anonymous just in time. It hasn't been easy! I am taking it one can of cat food at a time. But I have been catnip free for 3 weeks now and I am working on my 12 steps.
The hardest step for me was making amends. Its hard for us cats to say we are sorry. I had to apologize to the dogs for all the times I outsmarted them and got them in trouble. I had to apologize to the humans for using the chair as a scratching post even though they put it in the wrong spot where the scratching post should have been. I even apologized to the birds for sleeping under the bird feeder just to annoy them.
I did draw the line though at apologizing to the other cats for eating more of the cat treats. After all, they are still gobbling up all the catnip. I tried to tell them they were going down a slippery slope and to give it up before its too late. But I guess they will have to learn themselves.
Meanwhile I am getting back to basics, stalking mice, and chasing leaves. I will need to retrain the humans. They got spoiled. While I was a dependent of catnip I let them think I cared far too much. I let them get the upper hand. This will change. Look for my column next month on how to train your human. Monday's Hello
It's Monday and Mom's up in the loft clearing out all the black cat hair on the carpet. Quinn and daVinci really left their mark!(They moved out with Mom's son) It's alittle chilly out, but the sun streaming through the windows is warm. It's been a relaxing day for us cats - that's a good thing. Monday's Quote:
