Every year we call it down upon ourselves,
the chaos of the day before the occasion,
the morning before the meal. Outdoors,
the men cut wood, fueling appetite
in the gray air, as Nana, Arlene, Mary,
Robin—whatever women we amount to—
turn loose from their wrappers the raw,
unmade ingredients. A flour sack leaks,
potatoes wobble down counter tops
tracking dirt like kids, blue hubbard erupts
into shards and sticky pulp when it's whacked
with the big knife, cranberries leap away
rather than be halved. And the bird, poor
blue thing—only we see it in its dead skin—
gives up for good the long, obscene neck, the gizzard,
the liver quivering in my hand, the heart.
So what? What of it? Besides the laughter,
I mean, or the steam that shades the windows
so that the youngest sons must come inside
to see how the smells look. Besides
the piled wood closing over the porch windows,
the pipes the men fill, the beers
they crack, waiting in front of the game.
Any deliberate leap into chaos, small or large,
with an intent to make order, matters. That's what.
A whole day has passed between the first apple
cored for pie, and the last glass polished
and set down. This is a feast we know how to make,
a Day of Feast, a day of thanksgiving
for all we have and all we are and whatever
we've learned to do with it: Dear God, we thank you
for your gifts in this kitchen, the fire,
the food, the wine. That we are together here.
Bless the world that swirls outside these windows—
a room full of gifts seeming raw and disordered,
a great room in which the stoves are cold,
the food scattered, the children locked forever
outside dark windows. Dear God, grant

The rumble of 8 Harleys can be heard as the
Hairballz Rainbow Riders approach Buddy’s house. Each bike has two flags representing their honorary members, Doodlebug and Yum Yum.
Cyndee, Dasher, Q. Lola, Mallow, Talley, Thundie, Zoe Monique and Ammie park their bikes, take off their helmets, gather their goodies, and pounce up to the door.
They ring the doorbell and when Buddy opens the door, they all shout Happy Birthday! The Gang has brought you some presents to celebrate your special day…a basket full of tuna muffins with catnip butter, a fling-ama-string toy, a catnip mousey, and a platter of Pounce treats – all flavors - for your celebration.
The Hairballz Rainbow Gang warm up their voices and start to meow….

Hey Buddy
Hope all is going well with your family. Mom nearly killed herself 2 weeks ago chasing a squirrel. She tripped, fell into the cattle fence that surrounds the yard, hit the sturdy fence post with her left cheek, bounced off and hit her right elbow on the house (stucco siding) and then hit her right knee when she fell. She didn't break her cell phone though. She had a beaute of a shiner but broke nothing. Hmmm. Seems klutzy to me.
I see way too much of Miss Kitty's Inn this year. Her Mom unexpectedly died in May at 80 and she has to keep flying back to Virginia to empty the house. She and Dad are going on a cruise and will see Easy Goin's Mom again-a bright spot in a dreary year.

Hi Buddy,
Stopping in today with my Sunday blog and vote! What's mew with you? The mews here is that Samson tried to jump Growlie...twice! Mom got on to him,and picked Growlie up and took him to a safe spot,where she then took the oppurnity to examine his fur. The new food seems to be helping him,as new fur is growing back in his,er,bald spots! Mom finally gave in,and is giving us the yummy new food too,yah!......The enclosure kitties managed to knock over their three tower condo that dad made,and smashed a litter box in the process. Mom was just glad no one was injured! She got a new litter box,and threw the smashed one out today. She also did some cleaning in the enclosure,as well as painting today. Mom asked dad if he would make two cat boxes to hang up high in the enclosure. She got the idea from the Catswall design boxes. Dad said he would add it to his 'honey-do list',haha!....The inside cats are doing good! Ellie still loves mom's room,and Gypsy dad's! Gypsy is the only one who hisses at Allie Cat,who is a complete little love bug kitty! ......Oh,and mom told Dad that she needed to save some money and take ME to the vet~YIKES~mom still thinks I am too overweight,and the other outside cats are not,and we all eat the same thing. She wants to make sure nothing else is going on with me. Well,I dread the day I have to go,whenever it may be,'cause when mom gets a notion in her head,she usually follows through. ATTENTION ALL MHL HOCKEY PLAYERS!!
This message is only being posted on one or two pages in each family so I can get it out to more kitties! Please pass the word on to the rest of your familiy as needed.
On Friday July 6th, at 7:30 pm EST (4:30 pm PST) we will hold our annual MHL Hockey Awards Ceremony! We will be enjoying an excellent catered meal in the newly completed Catvention Center at the White Squirrel Campground, page #189629. The menu for the evening will be posted on that page before the event. Following the dinner, the Awards Ceremony will commence at about 8 pm EST (5 pm PST) hosted by our very own Commish, Casey! Don't worry if you can't make it early for the meal, food will be served whenever you arrive. We will have live blogging that night for as long as you want or are able to stay.
On Saturday and Sunday we will have a large number of events and activities available for your enjoyment! Take part in our golf an fishing tourneys, water and small sports, individual games, etc. See the Park page for a list of things you can get involved in! If you wish you can blog with your friends at a time you arrange, or just log in to let us know you are there and participate silently. The Squirrel Box Resturant is open 24/7 for any time you are hungry. The menu is posted on the right side of the page.
Lodging is available for your use if you want to spend the whole weekend. Check the page for details. Anything you need is available at the campground! Just check with the staff in the Country Store.
This weekend event is for all MHL players, their families, friends, and pawrents! Bring everyone and have the best time you can have in the great outdoors! We will have special things to do and chaperones and sitters for the little ones, so bring your babies!
If you want, we can live blog again here on Sunday night, the 8th, and take a short break from hockey to just enjoy each other and get caught up on all the mews we have to share.
One final thing: PLEASE DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS PAGE when you are here. We don't want to interfere with any catpaign or special day that is on the calender!

PLS VOTE GYPSY #63445 COTD TUES JULY 3RD
Gypsy joined her furever family after being dropped off at her pawrents house one day. When she first arrived she wasn’t terribly friendly, but thanks to her Mom’s love and patience, she learned how wonderful it could be to be a part of her furever family. Now she watches birds from her window perch and plays outside—even climbing trees under Mom’s watchful supervision. She lives with her sisters Mittens, Minuette and Greycee Mist, and her sister Misty is a much loved Angel at the Rainbow Bridge. Tomorrow is a very special day, America’s Independence Day, so we would like to see a very special kitty in our COTD frame on July 4th. PLS VOTE ANGEL BOOTSIE #83222 COTD SUN 5/27!
On May 24th we remembered Bootsie’s 4th anniversary of crossing the Rainbow Bridge. It was hoped that the shout-out done for her would result in Angel Bootsie’s sweet face appearing in the COTD winner’s frame the next day, but that did not happen. We know it would have meant so much to Mom Lynn, who still misses her Bootsie very much. As most of you know, Mom Lynn has been recovering from a second hip surgery, and the love of her kitties and the support of CC friends has been instrumental in her recovery. We could not let this weekend of remembrance go by without thinking of the Angels who have blessed our lives—some for a long time, like Bootsie, and some for a short period of time, like little Ayashe who was with us for only a few days. In honor of ALL of our Angels at the Rainbow Bridge, we’re asking everyone to stop by Bootsie’s page #83222 on Sunday, 5/27 and leave her a vote of remembrance. PLS VOTE WINSLOW #132020 COTD TUES 5/22
Most of you already know how proud I am to be an orange cat, and so is the particular orange cat I am asking you to vote for tomorrow so he can be our 5/23 COTD! Winslow #132020 is a handsome senior kitty whose nickname is “Big Orange”—you can’t get much more orange than that! After being rescued by his Mom from under a shed, he has been living the good life with his two sisters Sienna and Alexi. I thought I should review some of the finer points of round #2.
ROUND #1 16 teams narrow down to 8 teams.
ROUND #2 8 teams to 4
ROUND #3 4 teams to 2-one from each conference
Scamper Cup Final.
cat loses to human teams:
1) The cat team has the option of assuming the roster of that team.
2) They can sit out.
3) The captain can negotiate with another cat team who lost to their human opponent. This will cost you several million catbucks, and you MUST respect the decision of the original captain/owner of the rights if they say no.
cat vs cat
1) one team doesn't go anywhere except the tv room with popcorn.
2) If other cat teams have room for a player, any player from the losing team may hop to a new team for the playoffs. I myself have 2 Scamper Cup rings from being a RR and #36 OC. MOL
The Pawrents WILL stay APP throughout the series.
STL can change to a cat team. I would assume FF would like to keep them.

Hi Buddy and Pa Pawsee,
ANDY AND ELLIE'S MORNING ADVENTURE!
A great big roach across the ceiling did come,
and up the curtain Andy did run!
A mid-air swipe and down it fell;
hit the floor running pell mell!
Andy and Ellie are on it in a flash,
but behind the waste can the roach did dash!
Round and round the cats did run,
chasing the roach and having SO much fun!
Under the rug it tried to escape,
little did it know that was a mistake!
Four taloned paws under the rug did search,
and the 'poor' little roach went plumb berserk!
A valiant run it made for the door,
but a quick paw-swipe pinned it flat to the floor!
A leap,a toss,a flip in the air...
~then CRUNCH!
It's ended-right then and there!
