My cat hobbies: Used to be hide, but she has come out of her shell some and now chases Rowdy the puppy.

How We Met
Found in the barn with several other kittens, infested with fleas, 5 kittens were rescued...SuzyQ happened to be the one we kept, we found homes for all the others...she use to be afraid of her own shadow, but has come out of her shell, and will even play with the dogs...

1887 ~ LATE NIGHT MEAL ~

This is my last day as GPC Reporter and a mew one will be reporting for her job soon. I hope you enjoyed all of my reports as well. I won't be back for several months as the other girls will have their turn, too!
Mom came out to feed us late late last night for the last time and again, Sylvester 11567 was not here so mom had to call him and started looking for him. I ran to the front of mom's car and she asked me what was wrong, but I did not say a word! Mom looked and then she seen Sylvester.... across the street on the neighbors' front yard sniffing around. Mom told him to get back home, but he ignored her so she went halfway in the street and told him again and that's when he scooted back home as mom was telling him he was a bad boy then she petted us both as we ate. Sylvester looked up a couple times at mom and mom told him he's ok now.
We hope and pray you all have a good mew year to come of 2013!

What’s mew with you? We are getting ready for some BIG changes at our house. Yesterday the workers started on repairing the damage to our house from Hurricane Isaac. For our roof, Mommy picked out Owens-Corning architectural shingles (the color is called driftwood) which should match our Arkansas stone house. These shingles are very pricey, but so pretty. You can do a search for architectural shingles to see pictures. After the roofers finish with our roof, they will put up hardy board siding (made of fiber cement) to replace the vinyl siding around our eaves, garage & other places around our house. Then the painters will come. After all this is completed, we will be getting a full-house generator, which means when the power goes out, the generator kicks on & we still have electricity to everything in the house. That will be super nice!
Finally we will have our backyard landscaped after having those big trees cut & the stumps grinded.
So we will be having many major changes to our house in the coming months. Mommy just wishes it was all over with as she knows that we will be scared of the noise & strange people. Of course, she is worried about us being stressed. Nana will stay with us during the day while Mommy is at work. I am definitely a Nana’s boy!
Our house renovations are going to be a big & long job. Our house is really large (it’s so big, we have two central air units) so it will probably take the roofers at least a whole week to do it. And Mommy thinks they might have to replace some of the boards underneath the shingles as well. Then they will put a mew roof on our HUGE shop/pool house/storage building too since Mommy wants the roofs to match. So that will take another week.
Then we are thinking that it will take one week to put up the hardy board siding to replace the vinyl siding, and we hope just one week for the painters. So we are estimating at least a month of noise & chaos at our house. These are the estimates that the contractor gave Mommy, but we all know it will probably take longer than their estimated time! Mommy will take photos of the completed projects & share with you.
The landscaper said it would be best to wait until spring to landscape our backyard. So that is good mews for us. Yes, noises bother me very much. Since I was so very sicky in 2009, my personality changed & I get spooked rather easily. Mommy is so worried that all these changes will stress me & make me sick again. We sure hope not.

Mom thanks you for your kind words!! we were so glad to see you and wonder what your mom thinks of DC??? Mom is beyond disgusted with it and hasn't been on in awhile!! My dog went for her yearly the other day, and has to go back in a month the found a suspicious lump. Mom is upset & worried so we are doing alot of paw holding and purr therapy!!! NOW I HAVE A NEW RECIPE FOR YOU ALL. I KNOW IT'S BEEN ALL WEEK SINCE I'VE FOUND ONE, BUT THIS ONE LOOKS LIKE A DOOZY!
Gastronommy's Moon Eggs
Serves 2, great for kitchen beginners
2 large eggs
2 slices sourdough bread
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon grated purrmesan cheese
dried thyme leaves, to taste.
black pepper, to taste.
1. Toast the slices of sourdough bread on pan or skillet until light golden brown appears. Remove and place to the side.
2. Heat the olive oil in pan or skillet on medium heat.
3. Using a knife or a cup, cut a hole in the center of the sourdough slices (about 1/4 area of the whole slice). Keep the cut out circles to the side and place the slices back in the pan.
4. Crack each egg into each hole. When egg whites are almost cooked through, lightly crack a bit of black pepper, purrmesan cheese, then a small sprinkle of thyme for garnish and flavor.
***Notes: Don't worry if the egg whites leak a bit out from under the toast. It should spread a bit under the toast anyway to keep hold in the "basket."

We are so sorry we haven't visited in so long!!! Mom has really had her hands full lately. Our Gpa had a couple of strokes awhile back so Mom has been a little busy!! We miss you guys. I am learning to go outside now but have to wear a harness. I chased a butterfly one night and I thought mom was going to have the big one!!!MOL!!! I was laying in the window watching the humming birds.These little birds with a red head & a stripe body came up & ran the humming birds off & trying to get the sugar water. They are pretty but we like the humming birds. Don't know what kind of birds these are. Hope the humming birds come back. "Mikey's Meow-velous Mothers" - May 30
Today I want to bring you one more story from the Animal Rescue Site, about a kitty rescue human who is disabled due to a spinal injury. Sometimes, understandably, this would get her down, and one day while feeling lonely she remembers saying a prayer, asking for “a two-legged companion who understands back pain and is always there”
Then into her life came a month old kitten who was soon named SCOOTER. Scooter had been stepped on, causing a spinal injury. She could not use her hind legs and was in pain. The only choice was to amputate both hind legs and to her future Mom’s surprise, this awakened the kitten within and Scooter was off and, well, scooting! She played so enthusiastically while healing that she tore her stitches three times! A “kitty wheelchair” cart was provided, but Scooter soon decided that she could get along better without it.
At the age of seven, she is undisputed boss of the household and has even caught 3 mice! She was certified as a companion animal and, true to breed as an Abby mix, enjoys meeting new people and soaking in all the attention she receives while out and about with her Mom. Scooter has been on the local news and has been featured in her local paper. Her Mom sees her as a walking (well, scooting) object lesson for those humans who would say that a handicapped animal should be euthanized because it is suffering. Scooter definitely does NOT consider herself to be suffering one bit!
Scooter’s Mom had her prayer answered not quite in the way she had envisioned, but in a way that has definitely made her life, Scooter’s life, and many other lives richer.

"Mikey's Meow-velous Mothers" - May 24
I’ve saved the three most unusual stories of surrogate mothers for last! These both come from a book called “Cat’s Company”.
The first of these concerns a half-Persian cat named BLACKIE, who adopted a motherless baby turkey! She brought mice for the tiny fowl to eat, and when for some unknown (at least to Blackie!) reason her adopted baby was not able to handle this food as well as her own kittens could, she kept trying different food items until, by trial and error, she found the things that the orphaned chick could eat. Blackie continued to watch over this particular turkey even after it was grown, mated, and had a family of its own.
Then there was the barnyard cat in Beaumont, Jersey, England. This kitty’s name has not come down to us, but her story has. This unusual kitty actually adopted a baby mouse after having eaten its mother!
After dispatching the mother and carrying the tiny baby rodent back to her own kittens, the farmer expected her to use the helpless creature for a lesson to her own young ones on how to handle prey. Instead, her maternal instincts were aroused and she began to clean, nurse, and generally care for it along with her own litter. Some weeks later this mouse, now grown, wandered away from its adoptive family into the nearby woods. To the astonishment of the farmer who witnessed this, the mother cat became very distraught at the loss of one of her babies. She “yowled mournfully into the night until the wayward mouse returned home to the strangest nest that a rodent has ever occupied.”
Today’s third story comes out of the Novosibirsk Zoo in Siberia, and was reported in the Moscow Times, November 2001. This zoo found itself with two wolf cubs whose own mother could not produce enough milk for them. Only a few days old, their eyes not yet open, they were brought to another zoo resident who was raising one offspring of her own. Two weeks later when their eyes opened, these two wolf cubs could not have cared less to find that the warm furry source of their delicious milk was actually MUSYA, a Siamese cat! Strange but true!

"Mikey's Meow-velous Mothers" - May 18
Today’s story of surrogate motherhood comes from a book called “Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Cat”. Meet FIDDLE, who was very good at catching mice and rats on the farm where her humans raised sheep.
It was time for the lambs to be born and the farm lady was working round the clock to help the new mothers and make sure the lambs were delivered safely. One little black lamb was born early and the mother was not inclined to take care of it, so the farm lady carried it through the March snow into the house, where she kept a stock of colostrum for such emergencies.
While she was tending to the tiny two pound creature, she realized that Fiddle had followed her silently into the house and was stretched up staring intently at the small creature on her human’s lap. She brushed Fiddle off, telling her that this creature was NOT a mouse!
A bed was made for the lamb in the spare room, the door closed to prevent Fiddle from getting in as the expert mouser continued to be just TOO interested in the new arrival. One night the farm lady, tired from the round the clock feedings and caring for the ewes in the barn as well, forgot to close the door after settling the lamb back down. Coming in for the next feeding, she was horrified to see Fiddle in the box, her head moving sharply up and down. Fearing the worst, she approached.
To her amazement, Fiddle was purring, her paws wrapped around the lamb who she was busily engaged in the business of bathing! When the bath was finished, the lamb got her bottle and was tucked back in with Fiddle curled around her, purring. The door was left open from then on and the lamb, who survived, was given the name Viola.

"Mikey's Meow-velous Mothers" - May 14
Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather wand yesterday when I found most of my Mother’s Day blog already written and posted. Sometimes my sisters really surprise me!
Some of you have probably seen stories about human mothers who manage to do amazing things like lift up one end of a car when their children are in danger. Well, we felines will not be outdone! This is the “Dragnet” version of an incident that was captured on closed circuit video on the grounds of a security company in Durban, South Africa in September 2011, as described by an SPCA investigator:
“Footage shows a car pulling up and three adult males and one minor male making their way to the (trunk), while looking around furtively. A box is pulled out. Two adult males cross the road and put the box down near bushes off a dirt pathway and place a large, heavy rock on top of box. The car leaves the scene.
“Camera zooms back to the box, movement seen. Shortly after, a cat pushes its head out from underneath rock and forces its way out of box. The cat stays close to the box, surveying its surroundings. The cat moves across into the bushes to survey and within seconds is back, delving into the box. The rock falls into the box. The cat emerges holding a tiny kitten in her mouth and scuttles off into the bushes.”
The box was only 22 cm (about 9 inches) square, and stills from the video show that the heavy flat rock almost completely covered the top. The mama cat and two day old kitten, soon known throughout South Africa as Ava and Basil, were taken to the nearby SPCA. The license plate of the car is visible in the video and charges were soon laid against the humans involved, who investigators noted could very easily have taken Ava and Basil to that very same shelter instead of leaving them to die in such a cruel way.

I will take your advice to heart: "always meow softly and look at your bowl for food and then when they put it in the bowl always walk away.." Fuzz is a PRO at this.
I know what you mean - I always blink or squint when that camera gets in my face too! Mom's PNS photographer came yesterday and had a photo shoot with me. I'm sure half of them will be of me squinting! MOL - We'll see.

"Mikey's Meow-velous Mothers" - May 9
Today’s special mama cat comes all the way from Cambridgeshire, England! Meet JOLIE, a pretty black kitty who went the extra mile for her kittens.
When Jolie’s owners realized that she was pregnant, their solution to the problem was to drive to a rural area and throw her out of the moving car! A passerby saw this cruel act, and kept an eye on the understandably skittish young lady cat for two weeks, before she was finally able to be coaxed into the safety of her new human guardian’s greenhouse. Once this was accomplished, the lady looked Jolie over and took her to the vet for treatment for her face, which had been grazed by her rough landing in the road.
It was also apparent to the vet that Jolie had very recently had kittens. The kind woman contacted the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to make a report, and for advice on how the kittens might also be found and helped.
An RSCPA inspector thought that the only thing to do was to take Jolie back to the spot where she had been thrown from the car, and look around. Sure enough, when Jolie was set down she began to vocalize in a way that the inspector recognized as a mother cat calling to her kittens. But when no kittens appeared, he realized that Jolie was calling HIM. When he got the hint and began to follow, Jolie led him for over 300 metres, through a back yard, across a field and into a farmyard, all the time calling and then waiting for him to follow. Finally, she led the inspector into an old barn and behind a woodpile, where sure enough he found four week-old kittens, who without their mother would very soon have died of dehydration.

Don't waste time learning to do things that others will do for you.
Knock small things off of counters.
When a child starts screaming or crying loudly, resist a temptation to silence it immediately....
If someone breaks into the house when no one else is home, don't be a hero. Hide. Leave the heroics to dogs.
Autumn leaves and newspapers were made to be played in.
My advice: Learn to develop a memorable meow!

No matter how old you are, never be afraid to express the kitten within you.
Learn to watch everything even with your eyes closed.
Steer clear of wasps, bees, ants, and spiders. At best, they make iffy playmates; at worst, they're hazardous between-meal snacks.
For mild stomach upsets, eat plenty of grass. If that fails, try a little yogurt.
Always look astonished and perplexed when you break something, even if you meant to do it.

Mom mowed the front yard yesterday morning then she took Rhoamin 2921; Bahneetah 10641; Whyskrs 10378; Jazpyr 10428 and Sassee 10605 for their outside time in the front yard. Mom then did some weeding after she took the kitties back inside.
Remember that stranger that came into our back yard the other day with dad? Well, dad left home about 5:00 this morning with the boat hooked behind his truck to pick up that stranger (Jay) as they are going fishing and will be back in the afternoon.

Another day, Another week ~ Another shipment of votes MOL! It seems good to have Mom home so we can have special shipments of votes for you! She had a great time with family and friends, but froze her paws off half the time. Brrrrr She's happy to be back in warm and sunny FL!
Upon Mom's return she learned that CC had many sad moments as Angels took their journeys to the Rainbow Bridge. We share in their sad losses and are holding
them close in our hearts and prayers. Their precious Angels will never be forgotten because they left paw prints on our hearts.
