PLEASE give a COTD vote of support WEDNESDAY, JULY 23rd to shy Mr. SHAI #21930 of Castro Valley,CA! Shy Mr. Shai's Mom is an Adoption Counselor and Cat Socializer at the city shelter. Once upon a time, a long time ago, she was socializing a painfully shy "scaredy cat". This fluffy Birman fella would just curl up in her arms and hide his face in the crook of her elbow. The shelter manager walked by making the rounds as she prepared "The Dreaded List" just as the fluffy fella was being put back in his cage. Shai's Mom jokingly asked if the shy Birman was on the list, figuring such a handsome fella could never meet such a fate. The Shelter Manager gave Shai's Mom "the look". The shy Birman boy did not "show well" due to his fears and the shelter was overflowing. Shai's Mom immediately volunteered to take the Birman home to foster, saving him from the euthanasia list that fateful day. The Birman Boy spent the first two weeks hiding his head in the crook of his foster Mom's elbow. By the end of two weeks, Shai's Mom had fallen in love with him and so adopted Shai furever! It was still months before he would take his head out from her elbow. So she named him Shai, which means "gift" in Hebrew and because he was just so shy. Shy Mr. Shai is still shy when strangers come over or sometimes when there are new rescue kitties like Mo. Currently, Shai shares the home with Jes, Socks, Mo and Smudge. Socks has been missing for a couple of days and his Mom is worried, praying for his return. Shai is best buddies with Smudge! You can see pictures of them together as they always hang out when Shai is not on his mom's lap. Shai sleeps right next to his mom's face at night or elsewhere on the bed with Smudge. Shai & his Mom have been together for over 6 years now and she will never let him go! Shai is very smart as he knows his name and when to come in at night.
