Molokai
Serene seascapes, unspoiled coastlines, untamed wilderness. We visit Molokai & travel back to a timeless place. This is an island that stays true to its Hawaiian traditions - tucked away from the hustle of the outside world; where no building is taller than a coconut tree; there’s no traffic & no traffic lights; where you can feel the power of Hawaiian culture from an area near Maunaloa, said to be the birthplace of hula, to the natural wonders of Halawa Valley.

Molokai is only 38 miles long and 10 miles across at its widest point. It is a friendly & family-oriented island that has deep connections with its Hawaiian ancestors. Unlike the visitor industry on the larger Hawaiian Islands, Molokai has preserved its true Hawaiian culture. More than one third of this island's residents have over 50% Hawaiian blood. Molokai residents farm, fish, hunt & gather many of their basic needs & they enjoy this lifestyle. Here we need to slow down, be less demanding, & respect the Molokai way of life. Molokai is the real deal. We are visiting the true Hawaii. We will enjoy & respect Molokai & her people.

Lining the northeast coast are the towering cliffs of the North Shore Pali. At 3,600 to 3,900 feet from sea base to top, they are the tallest sea cliffs in the world; their near-vertical plunge ends 2000 feet below sea level. We step cautiously to the edge to peek over. Whoa, that’s a drop! Later in the day, we do some ocean kayaking along the face of the cliffs; this is amazing beyond belief! We also discover secret, secluded beaches, sea birds, & cascading waterfalls which provide incredible, photogenic scenery

We then hike into the East End’s classic cathedral valley to see Hawaii back in time. It is believed ancient Polynesians settled in lush Halawa Valley as early as 650 AD. This area, half a mile wide and three to four miles deep, and blessed with beautiful vistas and towering waterfalls, is one of the island's most historic areas. Roughly two miles up the trail is the impressive, double-tiered 250-foot Moa’ula Falls. If you’re considering taking a dip into the pool, drop a ti leaf into the water first. Hawaiian legend says that a giant moo (lizard) lives at the bottom of the pool. If the ti leaf sinks, the moo is in no mood for visitors. If the ti leaf floats, it’s safe to enter. Our ti leaves are forming a veritable flotilla, and we slip gratefully into the refreshing pool. Soon we are splashing and playing like … well, kitties.

We have been invited to a luau by the residents of a small village near Maunaloa, birthplace of the hulu. After dining on succulent roast pig, and all the tasty side dishes, we are given grass skirts to put on for a hula lesson. Soon we are dancing and telling the stories of the island, looking almost like natives.

Tomorrow we will head for the island of Oahu, where our Hawaiian adventure will eventually finish.

YOU'RE PAWSOME!!
Big sis Patches has been furiously whipping up goodies in the kitchen so please pounce over & help me enjoy the day even more by sampling her scrumptious tuna tarts, triple berry muffins (cranberries, strawberries & blueberries), cheese omelets & chicken fondue.
Our door is always open for guests so come when you can & stay as long as you want because the pawty won't end until the last kitty closes their eyes for a nap!

How Cats Love – Part 1 (from cats.about.com)

There's no doubt that cats love us as much as we love them. People who haven't been blessed with furry feline love have a difficult time believing this though, because kitties show affection very differently than people do. In fact, some cat behaviors that puzzle, aggravate or even offend people are a cat's way of expressing undying affection.

1. Cats Love with Purrs. Her purrs can mean a variety of things, from delight to expressions of concern. And kitty purrs range from soft and subtle to Mack-truck loud. When your cat purrs in your presence, you can be sure she’s expressing her love for you.

2. Cats Love with Bunting. When a cat cheek-rubs you, head-bumps your face, or pushes against you, he leaves his scented signature. These behaviors, termed bunting, are expressions of affection cats display to other cats, dogs-and their most favorite people.

3. Cats Love with Spraying. Say it ain’t so! But it’s true—if your cat has decided to baptize your bed or other belongings with urine, you should consider it a back-handed compliment. Cats use their own scent to calm themselves down. Kitties feeling upset over separation anxiety or other issues often target areas that smell the most like their beloved owners…such as the bed.

4. Cats Love with Rolling. When kitty throws himself on the ground at your feet, and rolls around, consider this a loving greeting and a solicitation for attention. Presenting the tummy in this fashion places the cat in a vulnerable posture. So cats generally reserve the rolling around for people they truly love.

5. Cats Love with Scratching. Just as with the spraying, cat scratching leaves both scented and visual marks of ownership. Pay attention to where your cat scratches the most. The areas most important to kitty often are related to those places associated with the owner, like a favorite chair where you sit.

6. Cats Love with Gifting. Mighty hunter cats that catch everything from toys to bugs, mice or frogs, often share the bounty with those they love. Kitties who present you with this bounty deserve praise. They wouldn’t bring these special gifts if they didn’t love you.

7. Cats Love with Grooming. Cats spend an enormous amount of time self-grooming. They also groom each other, but shared grooming behaviors only happen between friendly cats. Kitties that groom their human by licking your skin or hair, or even nibbling or sucking on your clothing, indicates great affection. This spreads familiar scent and helps mark you as an important part of her family group.

A Cat's Diary -

Day 84 of my captivity…

My captors continued to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from clawing the furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant.

Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded. Maybe I should try this at the top of the stairs.

In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair. I must try this on their bed.

Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little kitty cat I was. This is not working according to plan.

There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary confinement throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More important, I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of inducing something called ' allergies.' Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit.

The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant. He speaks with them regularly, and I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait.

It's only a matter of time. =^.^=

May 6, 2013--- Guess its about time!
Good Monday Morning! Have a super day! We want to apologize that it has been forever since we did a good round of blogging on CC. Now we are doing a c/p and do have to apologize to you. We are well and have told a few friends that mom is planning a big trip to visit family in Norway this summer. Also, a cousin from Norway will be returning here for a visit after. Mom has to do some painting and work on the house too or arrange for it to be done. Kitty care and a house-sitter is arranged. Doggy care is in the works. Mom got her e-ticket and her Passport came Saturday.

We also feel guilty that K.Barney did promise continued stories time to time and so far we have not! Well, we do have one for today, but will have to keep it short. Not a story mom is too proud of, because she should have listened to Angel Pasha, who you met during our Catpaign. One summer night he bit her arm to wake her out of a sound sleep and then ran to the window. To mom's credit she looked out, but did not see anything, so chased Pasha from their room. He tried to protest and kept running to the window, but mom still did not see anything and did not investigate further. Well, she did lean her lesson----- in the morning she talked to her neighbor and found out he had been gone that night and his house was robbed! Mom felt so guilty that she had not done more, but she was so tired and did not see or hear anything from where she was. She sure learned that cats may have more of a sense when something is wrong than most humans realize. Of course, there are still times when we kitties just can't sleep and we want some company.

Please paw by & meet this beautiful Champagne Point Tonkinese kitty. KAYLIN #251700 is not just a beautiful face she is also a CFA Champion & a Mom. She was hand picked for her new parents by her sister Wendy's breeder when she found out how sick Wendy was. But this sweet girl was already a mom so her new parents had to wait to bring her home. All of her kitties found their furever homes & then she had her Big Girl surgery. She was finally able to come to her new home in January. She wasn't sure if she wanted to stay at first, but her new parents gave her lots of love & support so we are happy to report she is settling in quite nicely. KAYLIN #251700 spends her days hanging out on Mom & Dads laps, playing with her toys, & napping in the sun. She also likes to tear through the apartment at top speed and has been known to do it in the middle of the night too. Her most favorite things to eat are the Roast Chicken that she shares with her parents, and her Blue food. A Word With Whiskers – May 04
A Fitting Finale - by Nancy Kucik

Laser was a therapy cat for more than twelve years, and in that time I was fortunate enough to see him do many amazing things & spread a tremendous amount of happiness. One November evening, though, his gift of empathy surpassed every expectation I ever had. We were visiting the local children’s hospital shortly before Thanksgiving. As we were hurrying to the elevator to visit the children on the oncology unit, a woman tapped me on the shoulder & asked if Laser could visit with her daughter in the lobby before we went upstairs.

Of course I said yes. She led me to a teenager in a wheelchair. Both the girl & her mother told me how much they loved cats, & how sad they were because theirs had died only a few weeks before.

Laser was a world-class snuggler. From the tiniest child, whose lap was so small that he had to do some serious contortions in order to fit, to the largest adult, Laser had a reputation at the hospital for always finding a way to curl up & cuddle.

That’s why I thought it was so strange when Laser did not curl up onto the teenager’s lap. Instead, as soon as I placed him on the girl’s lap, he climbed up & positioned himself with his chin resting on her shoulder & the length of his body pressed against her chest.

A big smile lit up the girl’s features as she blissfully closed her eyes & rubbed her face against the soft fur of Laser’s head & back.
It wasn’t until I had been watching this happy interaction for several minutes that it suddenly dawned on me that the girl was not using her hands to pet Laser, and in fact her arms were paralyzed.

Did Laser somehow know this girl was unable to use her hands to pet him? Is that why he so uncharacteristically cuddled on her shoulder rather than her lap? I don’t know, but I don’t have any other explanation.

That encounter was especially poignant because it turned out to be Laser’s last therapy visit. At age 14, he died very suddenly & quite unexpectedly just a couple of weeks later.

While I was devastated by his loss, the thought of all the joy he brought over the years & the difference he made in so many lives makes me smile. There could be no more fitting final chapter in the life of this amazing therapy cat than that experience at the children’s hospital. I know Laser’s spirit will live on not only in that girl’s heart, but in the hearts & memories of everyone else whose life he touched.

The temperature was high 76 & low was 45 this morning, now it's 74 with humidity 43% & wind is 16 MPH NNE. Saturday's suppose to be Sunny & High 81.

♥ Hello Friends, this time it's just me - Sassee 10605 tonight! I got rid of my irritating littermate brother, Jazpyr! MOL!

♥ On Thursday morning, dad held each of us inside kitties while mom gave us our pawdicures then mom put Frontline Plus for Dogs on us. Afterwards, we got Greenie treats! I was a little hissy, but mom said I did pretty good considering I'm still having pain in my front legs. Mom was trying to be very gentle as not to pull or hold my front legs tight.

♥ Mom did open dad's bedroom window this morning so we could go out in the cattery. Rhoamin was the only one wanting out at the time! Mom then had to leave cuz she had several errands to get done plus while she was at Sears, she had a coupon for an oil change so she got dad's truck done. Dad was surprised when mom got home to let him know!

♥ Yippee! The mailman delivered a package this afternoon from EntirelyPets.com which is my Dasuquin pills for my Degenerative Arthritis Disease. Actually, there were three packages which two was for dad from the VA as dad had to order a new mask for his C-PAP! So, mom had to call Dr. Liz to see how many Dasuquin mom's suppose to give me. I'm suppose to get two capsules a day. Mom waited for me to wake up and I came to her. She gave me both my pills then I ate! Now it's just time to see if they work for me!

For The Love Of Cats – A Human Introspection

Of all the animals who have shared our lives for generations, we know the least about the cat. That doesn’t mean we love them any less; in fact, the air of mystery each cat carries is one of the reasons we love them so much. Cats have never changed to suit our desires. They play by their own rules and we love and admire them for their independence of spirit.

Cats started hanging around us because we were useful to them. Our switch from hunter-gatherers to farmers meant that we attracted lots of fat, little rodents to our grain stores. The cat has been welcome in our barns ever since, and by our hearths as well.

Few cats have to earn their living today and many have lives that keep them completely indoors, hunting for little beyond a warm place to sleep. More than 20 years have passed since the cat claimed the title of #1 pet over the dog, and the gap just keeps widening.

The closer we get to our cats, the more we find to love them. They offer warm companionship, endless entertainment and soothing comfort. Science concurs; pets in general- cats in particular, are good for us in countless ways. They keep us busy, keep us from being lonely and even help keep us healthier.

We can’t imagine living without animals in our lives. We love cats, from the purr of a new kitten’s greeting to the last sad good-bye of an aged friend. We love the snuggles on the couch while watching TV, the silly games with a string toy or laser pointer, the sharing of a joke or a secret or even a bit of our dinner. Our cats are always with us, in spirit even when they cannot be with us in person.

Every cat lover knows cats don’t care who you are or what you look like. They love us regardless. Cats teach us, heal us, make us laugh, and break our hearts with their passing. Cat people understand the benefits of feline companionship because we live with cats, love them, and care for and about them. The strength of the human-animal bond and the growing importance of pets in our lives is phenomenal. We humans celebrate the CAT.

♥ Hello Friends, this is Sassee 10605 tonight! Ok, my irritating littermate brother, Jazpyr, too!
Jazpyr, you shut up and don't say a word or I'm going to be hissing and growling at you some more with a few swats! MOL!

♥ Jazpyr 10428 and I Thank You for your visits to us each with your beautiful singing voices to our 9 year Adoptiversaries on May 1st! You all sounded so sweet and in purr*fect tune! Thank you also for the sweet gifts, flowers, Piñatas and balloons. We Thank You mostly for your loving friendships to us.

♥ Mom and dad had their purr*sonal Bible Study today (May 1st) and I came in the front room to meow a few times. Mom fed me then she picked me up and held me. She knew I am hurting still.

♥ Mom opened dad's bedroom window again this morning so we could go out in the cattery. Mom also mowed the front yard Wednesday morning. Her and dad worked in the back room all day on Thursday sorting with lots more things for a sale.

♥ Mom did get an email letting her know that my Dasuquin should be here by Saturday then she will get me started on them and in hopes it will ease or even take away my pain.

Whisker’s Furever Home – by Mom Mandy

I had always been a dog person, having had 2 big boys, an Airedale-Terrier mix and the other a Pointer. Both were rescue dogs and they were the loves of my life for 12 years. When they crossed the Rainbow Bridge within one year of each other, I thought my world had ended.

I would come home from work and sit in the backyard staring at the empty doghouse. With 2 big dogs, a cat in our yard was a rare sighting. One evening I noticed a black & white tuxedo cat staring at me from afar. When I tried to approach her she would hiss and run away. I started leaving food out for her and the next day the bowl was always empty.

My spiral into depression continued. I missed my dogs so much. My husband decided to take me away on a trip to Hawaii. Two weeks later a surprise awaited us on our return home.

Our empty doghouse had been used by the black & white tuxedo cat to give birth to her 5 feral kittens. I didn't know what a feral cat was, but I learned quickly. We left food for the cats and tried to catch a glimpse whenever possible, but the mother was guarded and we respected that.

One morning when I was leaving food out I noticed the mother was gone. 5 small kittens were left crying and hissing as if calling out for their mother. I thought they were adorable, but my friends said beware of feral cats for fear of disease or physical attacks. I got on the internet, learned about Trap-Neuter-Release techniques, and set out on a mission to save these babies.

It took several days, but I did manage to get all 5 of the kitties fixed. I released them back into our neighborhood, prayed and waited.

They came back one by one, as I always put food out, morning and night. I had names for them all - Howlie, Patches, Whitey, Callie and Whiskers. One day I noticed Howlie was gone. I checked the local animal shelters, but Howlie never came back. Soon after Patches was gone too.

I decided to put up a cat fence around my yard and try to trap the remaining 3 kitties in my yard. What an adventure that was! Callie came willingly. Whiskers came back next, but he was injured. We fixed him up and he has never left since. Sadly, Whitey is still outside, but she comes home to eat every day. I pray every night that one day Whitey will come inside and be with the family that loves her.

About Whiskers and His Family – An Introduction

I am so happy to be your COTM candidate this month. Happy May Day to all of you and thank you for the many Happy Birthday wishes to my fursisters and me.

Let me begin my first blog by telling you a little bit about myself and my family, and how we came to be.

I’ve been a CC member since Jan. 2012 & I was voted CROTD in August 2012 and COTD in September 2012. In September 2012, I earned my wings as a pilot in the Royal Squadron studying at the Royal Flight Academy under the instruction of K. Pete (72572). I met and fell in love with his beautiful fursister, Talley (88476), who officially became my girlfriend on December 12, 2012, without question, the happiest day of my life.

My pawrents were life long fans of canines before us, and it has taken them several years to finally recognize that cats are individuals, unlike any other pet, with many unique traits adding to our feline mystique.

Entering the world as feral kittens, the angels of good fortune took pity upon us and brought us to our furever home. Even though my Mom knew absolutely nothing about cats, she would never turn away an animal in need. So we had a safe haven, but we still were not really a part of the family. Cats were thought of as adornments – no interaction necessary or needed. How wrong we proved that misconception to be.

It wasn’t until my Mom retired from her job, now spending time at home with us, did she really begin to notice what wonderful, loving companions we could be. But now what, she wondered? They don’t like to go for walks and they don’t fetch or catch Frisbees. So my Mom turned to the Internet to find out what cats are all about. After extensive research, reading and getting to know one another, we’ve finally begun to appreciate and partially understand each other.

Together, we have been reading everything we can about us amazing felines. My pawrents are learning to appreciate this fascinating creature, the Cat. My fursister Callie and I have turned this once “dogs only” household into a haven worthy of cats. We have an outside fursister named Whitey, who still is not convinced about being an indoor cat, but we are adamantly working on changing her mind. I hope you enjoy my daily blogs, sharing what we’ve read and enjoyed together.

I’d like to thank Queen Trixie (#172636) for her wonderful reign as our Queen for April 2013. She was a great leader who will be missed, and we wish her a happy retirement! This morning, let’s give a warm CC welcome to our beautiful new Queen Spunky (#161265)! See you at the Coronation!

♥My Precious Sweet Love Mickey...♥
Awwww...Honey! I loved so much your kitty kiss and your lovely letter! I´m so sorry for taking such a long time to write back to you. It´s all my Mom´s fault. I keep telling her I want to write to you and she always tells me: -I know, Lolita. I know. I missed you with all my heart.
Mom & Dad did a short trip to Rosario, in the province of Santa Fé as Dad had been invited to take part at a medical conference there. Rosario it´s about 350km far from home. Our parents traveled with their car. Mom told us Rosario looks pretty much like Buenos Aires, although it´s a little bit smaller.
Mom and Dad stayed at a fancy Hotel and Mommy had the chance to do some shopping while Dad was at the conference. She even found a cute cat-woman doll at a toys store and bought it. She was super happy about it!!
I tried to sniff it a couple of time but she told me it is not a kitty toy. How rude is that?
We had a nice weekend. Our parents visited a marriage of Peruvian friends as the lady was celebrating her birthday. Mom told us they had a great time and she kept on talking about all the yummy food in the pawty. Too bad we didn´t get any of it.
The weather was lovely and sunny although it rained on Saturday night. After the rain we noticed about some little bugs in our food dishes. Mommy said they were ants and that they come with the humid weather. Sally and me saw them and started to meow load to alert Mom. We wanted them away from OUR food. Momma was not happy about them either. She changed our food and moved our dishes to another place. Then she washed the floor with a nasty fluid and told us they were gone for good.
Mom and Dad are looking forward to Wednesday when they will be off work since we´re celebrating Labor´s Day.
I bet your Mommy´s goats are adorable!! Mom says she would love to see some pictures of them!! So... your doggie friends celebrated their birthdays? I´m sure they had a great pawty with lots of goodies!! Did you get some too?

Thank you for pawing by with such sweet ♫ Happy Adoptiversary ♪ wishes for me. It’s hard to believe that it’s been ❼ years already since Mommy brought me home. I was just six weeks old then.

Mommy & Nana had been feeding my Momcat Phoebe while she was preggers at an abandoned house. You can see a pic of my catmom Phoebe & my siblings Kirby, Riley & Oreo at the bottom of my page. Because I looked so much like my momcat with her pretty blue eyes, Mommy originally thought that I was a girl & she named me Chloe Blue. Silly Mommy! Mommy found my cat mom & 3 siblings wonderful, furrever homes, too.

Mommy didn’t know what MerryBelle and Sissy would think about getting a little brother. Well, MerryBelle liked me & “mothered” me, but Sissy STILL hisses and growls at just the sight of me, even 7 years later. She is just jealous because she is no longer the baby!

Psalm 127:3 says “Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.” Mommy believes this, especially since we are her only children.

This week’s special recognition candidates were found on the side of a road near a wooded area when they were barely old enough to fend for themselves. Their guardian angel was working hard that day & led their new mom to the right spot where she picked up the three mewing furballs & took them home. These precious sibs have stolen the hearts of many CC members by mom’s picture postings on FB & it’s pawsome being able to watch them grow up here in our loving community. Colt and Winchester love to talk to calm Kimber down because she’s very shy, unlike her more outgoing sibs. They love to play with their mouse toys & frequently pick on their bigger sibs throughout the day to see how much they can get away with. You can often find this rambunctious trio of young felines looking out of the window talking to birds, or playing with their light up ball. They’re snugglers too! They’re often found in the lap of mom or grandpa or you can see them snuggling happily together in their kitty bed. The inseparable trio of COLT,WINCHESTER & KIMBER#251320, are also keeping the house hopping with their energy level so let’s help them bounce off the walls a little more by pouncing by to paw them a COTD vote today, Monday April 29th, so they can earn their very first badge of honor tomorrow!
