Hi Gwennie!
You are a very cool-looing cat. We have a friend that has a very sweet dog named Gwenie. How are you today? I am catpaigning for ACOTD and wanted to take this opportunity to raise awareness of FIV. I have just recently crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge in June of this year due to complications from FIV. I was FIV positive, but was able to live for 6 years with few problems. What happens with FIV is that it breaks down the immune system and the body cannot fight off bacteria that a normal body would wipe out easily. FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and is similar in some ways to HIV, but in others, is very different.
Humans cannot get FIV, it is only spread to other cats.
FIV is spread through bite wounds from an infected cat, however a pregnant FIV cat can spread it to the kittens in the womb.
There is no cure for FIV.
A cat that is FIV positive may not show any symptoms for a number of years.
When symptoms do show up, they can include weight loss, gingivitis, stomatitis (mouth sores), digestive trouble, kidney trouble and other signs throughout the body.
There is a vaccine available, however it does not cover all strains of FIV and cats that have been vaccinated will show a false positive, meaning the test will indicate it has FIV even though it doesn’t.
Cats kept indoors are much less likely to be infected with FIV.
Cats should be neutered, unneutered male cats are more aggressive, they get in more fights and are at a much higher risk of getting FIV.
FIV-infected cats should be kept indoors, they should be fed a balanced diet, should not eat raw foods such as meat and eggs and should visit their vet for wellness checks.
We got most of this info from Cornell’s site on FIV and from Wikipedia and from information our vets gave us.
I just wanted to try to keep kitties from getting FIV and to encourage people to give FIV kitties a chance.

Tortitude, huh? So THAT's what you call it! I used to have a companion kitty, Spice by name. She was a Siamese mix, but as she got older, her colors made her a patched tabby with white. SHE could have some attitude, too, boy! She thought that SHE ruled the house, when in fact, *I* was Mom's favorite. Spice would get so jealous of me, that she would just chase me through the house and try to beat me up in the bathroom, where I couldn't get away. But I always screamed for Mom and Mom always came and Spice got yelled at.
How neat is that your purrson is an artist! My Mom says that she can't even draw flies...I think that's supposed to be pun, but I don't get it.
